What breed that you DON'T have, would you like to have?

I thought this would be interesting because if you ask someone what breed they recommend, they naturally always say the one they've got! So could you tell me what other breed, that you don't own, have you always quite fancied and why?

For eg I have always had standard poodles and think they are fantastic dogs. However I have always liked the look of Greyhounds because they seem very gentle and loving, elegant, clean and I like the idea of a spurt of intense exercise leading to a long afternoon snooze!

What is your secret breed crush?

I don't think I've ever recommended the breed I own, lol.

But anyway...

I yearn for a Deerhound, I knew one as a child and I adored her, she was the sweetest gentlest dog I've ever met and from reading what they are supposed to be like, she sounds exactly true to type. But, I live in an average sized house with a small garden and I'd need a van to go to the vets, lol. Also they're rare and very expensive.

I quite fancy a smooth collie, they're basically rough collies with a short coat...clever, biddable, energetic but without being as full on as Border collies, but again very rare - no idea why.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/09/2014 15:44

If I didn't have a standard smooth dachshund....and leaving aside all the other dachshund variants Wink...

I'd like a whippet (similar to your feelings on Greyhound but without quite so much leg sprawling all over the place). I've liked every Lancashire Heeler I've ever met....and Manchester terriers and ... oh dear, I'm getting as bad as DD who has a huge list of the breeds and cross-breeds she wants when she grows up.

I have a Border Collie whom I love and have had an English Springer but would love a German Shepherd.

springlamb · 26/09/2014 15:50

A Chinese Crested.
Looks around at Golden hairy sofa, hairy rug, hairy trousers, little balls of hairy in the corners.
Wonders what's so wrong about a bald dog?

nellieellie · 26/09/2014 15:58

A Eurasier - bred to be companions, lovely nature and beautiful too....

SconeRhymesWithGone · 26/09/2014 16:00

I have always had Pembroke Welsh Corgis (now on the 4th) and Labradors, but would love to have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

NickiFury · 26/09/2014 16:02

A giant schnauzer or an Irish Wolfhound. Would love a HUGE dog but alas live in a small flat so for now it cannot be. My mini schnauzer is pretty special though so I guess I can manage Smile.

JadeJ123 · 26/09/2014 16:05

A Tibetan mastiff love the breed, sadly dh said no as mastiffs don't live that long Sad do love our American bulldog though

GemmaTeller · 26/09/2014 16:10

We're on our second set of boxers now, I love love love boxers.

If I won the lottery I'd have an Irish Wolfhound or a Newfoundland (as well), as far as I'm concerned if you're getting a dog, get a big one.

DwellsUndertheSink · 26/09/2014 16:11

i have a retriever, but love dalmations and boxers...

Dalmations because: the spots! they can smile, very smart dogs.
Boxers: With their waggy bums, and very gentle natures, although they can be mad as hatters.

Also, both types have short coats.

mrsravelstein · 26/09/2014 16:11

i'm a mini schnauzer owner (waves at nickifury) who is not generally that fond of dogs but goes a bit gooey over wire haired fox terriers. i looked at getting a rescue one but apparently they're incredibly high maintenance hence why so many of them end up in rescue. beautiful beautiful dogs though.

NickiFury · 26/09/2014 16:19

Here is my boy mrsravelstein Smile

Kleptronic · 26/09/2014 16:20

I have a border collie and a miniature dachshund. I want a whippet and a manchester terrier. Something went awry there, now where's that history erase button got to?

AnnOnymity · 26/09/2014 16:22

I'd like a labradoodle. One of the big ones.

llwynogbach · 26/09/2014 16:23

I currently have a pointer x staffer. I love the hound aspects of him. He howls for comedy effect Grin. I want a basset hound so much. I hope dp will come round to this idea eventually Smile

Tauriel1 · 26/09/2014 16:26

We have Pugs. They are amazing with children, oblivious to most things other than fuss and food and just lovely in general.

But, I would love a GSD that I could take on long country walks and train. I've always thought they were gorgeous but don't suit our lifstyle.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 26/09/2014 16:30

I have a Labrador and a cairn terrier. However is love a french bulldog or a shitzu or a cavapoo.

I won't though as h and I have decided that by the time these pets all pass away that the dc will all be independent and we can be per and child free and live a little.

PureMorning · 26/09/2014 16:30

Desperate for a dashund but have a scatty staffie and a Russell whos a bastard instead.

We dont have the lifestyle for such a small dainty dog.

Dh wants a whippet and i get the feeling ones going to appear soon...

Bubble2bubble · 26/09/2014 16:31

I need a setter. Preferably red, but any colour would do. To watch one run is just a thing if beauty.

LoonytoadQuack · 26/09/2014 16:32

I've got a BC cross who is fab but I yearn for a full BC. maybe from working lines.

OscarWinningActress · 26/09/2014 16:33

Oh....so many breeds, so little time. We have a Springer and a Westie (who currently lives with MIL), but I'd like A Scottie (we almost got one but decided on a Springer instead), a chihuahua, a corgi, an English bulldog and an Irish Setter.

WeeClype · 26/09/2014 16:35

I have 2 GSD but if I had to change breed then it would probably be a Golden retriever....only as they always seem so happy and friendly, whereas people leave the park when I walk in with my 2 dogs Confused

Setter, or a GSP. Wonderful to watch in motion.

Or a working cocker, but I have one of those so I am not allowed to say that Smile

insanityscratching · 26/09/2014 16:36

I would love a poodle. We have a shih tzu poodle cross but my heart's desire is a full poodle either a white standard or an apricot toy. Not only that I'd want it clipped with a top knot and tippy toes and a pom pom tail which is probably why dh is so against the idea.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/09/2014 16:37

Pure - get a standard dachs, they're not small and dainty as you'd know if mine had run into you headfirst with his cannonball head ow. Some of them can be dapper chaps, but perfectly capable of long hillwalks etc.
