Earlier, I thought the dog had a tick. But it wasn't a tick - and now I'm wondering what it was and I'm hoping you can help me figure it out.
It was embedded into her skin on her back around where her collar would be.
It was a little smaller than a grain of rice. On the outside, it was flaky and white. As I pulled it off with the tick removal tool, the thing broke and it looked like there was a blood vessel running through it (i could see the red line through it)
The dog seemed (and still seems) completely unaffected by this, although removing the thing from her skin did make her bleed a tiny bit.
She has been wormed within the last 4-5 months and she has been treated with Advantage within the last 4 weeks.
My old girl used to get a type of warty growth that sounds very similar to what you're describing. They looked like a flaky bump on top and when pulled out/off would bleed a little.
We asked the vet about them several times and they just said they were nothing to worry about, but never explained what they were. She had them all her life, but they never affected her - she didn't seem to even notice they were there, so not painful or itchy and lived to 14 years, so the vets were clearly right.
