Long time poster - but first time i have posted my own thread in the Doghouse section. Not looking for anything but positive thoughts and somewhere to write my feelings down.

We had to have our beautiful rhodesian ridgeback admitted to intensive care today because of kidney problems. He is 10 years old, so an old man in many ways, but behaves like a puppy as well. It is so traumatic. We are in the USA, hence why it is so late for you guys in the UK. We got him when we lived in the UK and he moved over here with us five years ago - a proper family pet, much loved and cherished.

He has always been a terribly picky eater, but he had not eaten properly for 3 days, so took him to the vet yesterday and they recommended an ultrasound today at the specialist. We were there for 5 hours and he was admitted for 3 days - so we had to leave him there. I miss him so much and have been in tears most of the evening. So far, results are ok - he is on an antibiotic IV and a drip, and they cannot identify any tumor or blockage, so they are hoping it is a bad infection, which should be treatable. The nurse who is caring for him has sent us pictures of him tucked in beneath a blanket - but I just want to be able to cuddle him.

We will go and see him tomorrow and hope for good news. We have cancelled our holiday to the UK - we were supposed to fly tomorrow, but we cannot leave him. Even sadder as my Dh's sister died six weeks ago and we were going to see her grave and visit her family. Anyway, that will wait. The nurse who is looking after our dog has the same name as DH's sister - I am not one for signs, but I like that one. Anyway, thank you for reading - I will update as soon as I can.
