Yep another dog. In the middle of nowhere too! I had to carry the dog home for about a mile. By the time I got to the vets I stank

Poor you and poor pup. Glad you got her to the vets. Are you ok? Have you had a sit down and a cup of tea? It must have been horrid.

Was the other dog off lead? Did you get the owner's details?

My Dad's dog once snapped at BlueDog when he was still a horrible, obnoxious puppy. Dad's dog barely made contact, but my stupid pup bit the inside of his own cheek, creating a lovely pus-filled abscess. Luckily it all cleared up with ABs and we avoided surgery, but these critters do cause us so much worry at times.

Both dogs off lead, and yes I have details (well details of the adult, she was walking for a neighbour).

She's through her surgery and I can collect her in an hour.

Bill is over £350 now

Glad she's come through the GA OK and hope she heals fast and isn't too badly affected.

My boy had a very similar injury (the result of playing with our other dog though, not an attack) a few months back. It looked horrific at the time, but we're lucky enough to live across the road from the vet surgery and had him there within ten minutes, so they were able to staple it back together, rather than him having to have a GA. You'd hardly know he'd ever had an injury there now, you have to really look to see a scar.

But, fair play to the owners. They called me and had spoken to the vet and paid every penny of the bill before I even collected the dog. Just shows some people still have morals.

Still cross as he admitted the dog likes to nip and roll other dogs, but whippets just have particularly thin skin so just split open.

And I've got to drive tonight so I can't open the wine yet

My boy's a sighthound too - hence the similar injury.

Good to hear the other owners accepted fault straight away and did the right thing. Sounds like they need to either go back to basics with training or keep him on lead around other dogs though.

Hope you get chance for some to calm your nerves later on.

aww poor little girl, hope she is feeling better soon (and you) must have been so stressful and upsetting.
Reminded me of my first ever dog who was a crossbreed but def had some greyhound in her, jumped straight through the living room window, I heard the smash came down and she was on the doorstep waiting to come in. had a similar hole in the top of her leg had to get neighbour to drive me to the vet!

I won't be reporting.

We live quite literally in the middle of nowhere. In the 3 years of living here, I have bumped into another dog owner a handful of times.

Where we walk is the sort of place that you would go to specifically if you had a nasty dog to avoid everyone else!

The owner has said first thing tomorrow they will be getting a muzzle. That's good enough for me- I really don't believe it's a danger. Just wrong place wrong time, and wrong breed of dog! (As in, whippet, being such a delicate flower!)

I think I'm almost over the shock.

Now just need to arrange a gazillion meetings with nice dogs over the weekend to counteract the bad experience for her.

You may need to work on re socialising him as he may be nervous of other dogs after this.

I'd hold off on meeting too many other dogs, even nice ones, until she's had a chance to heal and recover a little. Pip's knitted very quickly, staples out at 10 days no problem at all, but I'd have been wary of having other dogs around him while they were still in, iyswim.

When she's had a day or two to recover, you could try taking her somewhere like a pub or cafe garden where all/any dogs will be on-lead and she can be around them without any of them getting up close and personal.

I have lots of friends with nice woofers so am just going to meet up with them and have an amble, all dogs on leads.

It's odd in my house at the moment. I'm sat eating and there isn't a little nose snuffling around. Nothing is chewing my coffee table or rolling around with my other dog.

I know what you mean. My two were at kennels until Monday evening and I was thoroughly miserable alone in a quiet house that didn't have dog toys and chewed up cardboard tubes and antlers spread all across the living room floor. Liking it much more now that normal chaos has been resumed.
