My Parents have a gorgeous Weimy. He really is a lovely little chappie. They wanted a (little) dog. However, my Sis, who is home every 2-3 weeks, convinced them to get a Weimy. Promised that she would be home every weekend to look after him. She doesn't come home every weekend, and when she does, she is too busy going out on the piss to look after him. So DP and I look after him, a lot. We have bathed him, brought him to numerous vet's visits (for cartilage eversion). He is so attached to DP and I. I know DP and I need to take on the lovely puppy, but how do I put it to my stubborn parents?

Well, if it won't harm the dog, what if you stopped caring for him? Would your parents quickly get tired of having to do it all themselves? Then you could offer to take the dog 'as a favour'.

I suspect the parents simply wouldn't do most of that & it would be damaging to the dog's socialisation to stop doing it now.

What a pisser.

What if you asked to "borrow" Weimy puppy for a week and then sort of didn't bring him back?
