Took 6 month puppy to the vets this morning to be neutered only to get a phone call half an hour later to say that they were unable to do it because she has vaginitis Sad.

We now have to wait till 2 months after her (presumably imminent) first season. When I'll be hugely pregnant. Sigh.

The vets said she doesn't need any treatment for the vaginitis? I honestly haven't noticed anything untoward at all.

Poor wee thing has been through the wringer today and didn't even get any breakfast this morning.

Oh well. Ignore me, just rambling.

Oh bless her, hope she's had some fuss for being brave!

It's frustrating for you all, you were all prepared for it today and now feel let down!

Hope she's feeling ok.

Thanks Michonne Smile .

She's ok. She was groggy and a bit wobbly from the pre-med drugs they'd given her but still very happy to see DP and I arrive to collect her!

I've been snuggling with her all afternoon and giving her occasional treats. I think she'll be just fine Grin .

I now need tips on managing a puppy's first season!

I am going through my pups first season right now. I first noticed it 14 days ago when there was a little bit of blood down below. She is still bleeding now and she is very very swollen down below.
She has not been herself since it started, off her food, bit of a loose tummy and doesn't want to play. She has mainly slept, but still enjoyed her walks.
Whatever you do please be careful of walking her. Do not let her off lead. I have done pavement walks on a short lead and i must admit I do feel very anxious when we are out as she sets off dogs barking when they are locked inside their houses.
She also cents everywhere when we are out, which is a new thing for her.

As for the mess, its not too bad. Buy plenty of value wipes, you will get through loads. Every time she stands up she spots blood. During the day we keep her either in the kitchen or fining room where we have hard floors. In the evening we lay down towels for her and she lies on these.

They definitely smell different and not just doggy so you may want to get some plug in air freshners.

The other thing is as she is a goldie she has a big tail which gets matted with blood so every now and then I dunk it in a bucket of water which she is not too impressed with.

Another thing is she has started to hump us and her toys!! At the beginning she was not in the slightest bit interested in other dogs. I believe days 10 thru 14 are the most fertile time although conception is possible at anytime. You can tell if they are interested if you rub the hair above their tail. If they cock their tail to one side they would accept a mate.

Sorry for the essay, hope it helps.

dexter that is a super helpful post. Thank you!

She is never off the lead when walking so that should be fine. We won't let her off the lead in the garden though - we do that every day for a run around.

I have a cupboard full of wipes and scented candles - since getting her I have become obsessed with making sure the house doesn't smell!

Will make sure she is clean and comfortable and try to stop her humping DD!

I'm a SAHM so can give her all the attention she needs.

Thanks again for all the practical tips Thanks Wine

If i think of anything else I will let you know.
Its really not that bad, although it does seem to go on forever.
Good luck with the pregnancy! And thanks for the wine, much needed today with two poorly Ds!
