We will be collecting our Poo Shih Eric in the next week or so. Can I have your top tips and recommendations for equipment so that Eric is as happy and as comfortable as possible in his new home?
How can I make his leaving his Mum and brothers less upsetting for him? When we were viewing one of the pups was heartbroken at being away from Mum even though she was in the room although Eric didn't seem too bothered tbh.

Best advice for easing the transition is to have the pup in a crate in the bedroom with you at night.

Have a look here for loads of useful info Advice Page

Thanks for the link it looks great. We had committed to sleeping downstairs with him in the crate for a while, do you think it would be better then to have him upstairs instead because ideally I'd like him to sleep downstairs when he's grown. Our house has a downstairs bedroom where my adult son sleeps so we were going to swap rooms initially.

You never know, he might surprise you. I was dreading bringing Finn home and thought he would howl but I fed him from the start in his crate and then put him to bed at about 11pm. Covered the crate with a blanket so it was dark and put the radio on.
He didn't stir until 6.00am the following morning and has never had an accident at night.
I spent the first night wondering if I should check if he was still breathing!

P.S I do know we were lucky. Smile

We had our pup in his crate with a hot water bottle, crate covered with blanket and we took turns sleeping on couch for first two nights. First few nights we let him out for the toilet when he squeeked but very quickly he settled and within first week he has been quiet from 11.30-7.30 and clean in the crate.

I know we were lucky as have heard of puppies squeeking constantly. I tried hard to make his crate as comfy as poss which i think helps. Also he is only in there when we are out (rarely) and overnight. During day he has a bed by the fire.
