anyone got a puppy from halsham dog breeder?

I have fallen in love with a little puppy i enquired about.

However I am the other end of the country and having come across so many unscrupulous people selling pups during my search I feel it would be too big a risk to buy a pup from someone so far away.

But as the pup came from a litter from a breeder I thought there might be a miniscule chance someone on here has boughtone and reassure me it came from a lovely home and all is good??

Anyone??

Or has anyone ever bought one from a breeder in that area as seems to be a licensed breeder so must have puppies for sale fairly often.

No because i am at the other end of the country.

I have a family member lives 2 hrs from pup but it is a big ask without even knowing if the breeder is reputable which is why i thought as a last ditch attempt i would ask on here

I have been sent photographs of pup exchanged emails, texts and have a photo of mum with pups when first born.

I still don't feel satisfied. But am beginning to feel like I will only be satisfied if i give birth to it myself!!

Have googled name, google mapped address, tried fb stalking (not on there)

This week I was in touch with someone about a pup and through searching his name on facebook managed to find posts of him bragging 6 mnths back about going to Ireland picking up a load of pups and selling them back here within 48 hrs. I felt like throwing up. No surprise that he kept trying to fob me off when i asked for a picture of the mother.

One way to find out about breeders is to contact other breeders (of the same breed). When we were looking for our current dog a few years back DH talked to quite a few, and asked them about the others - more about what the dogs were like, dog breeding is a small world and they see each other at breed shows, some are judges. I'm thinking if you did that, you'd probably be able to get some idea about whether the breeder you've already found is good or not - and if not, you'll have started getting info on others.

This breeder is more a commercial breeder than a breeder of one breed if that makes sense. She is not on the list of assured breeders for example.

I am almost certain she will not be involved with the 'assured breeders' because she has full pedigree pups AND some cross breeds. I know the assured breeders of the pedigree dogs she has are completely ANTI cross breeding.

She is more gumtree than champdogs but i don't think that always means red flag.

Why do you want a dog from this breeder?

My dog who was from an assured breeder was only £100 more than a dog from a puppy factory. If you have to take a puppy factory dog/commercial breeder to the vet TWICE and get antibiotics you will have spent more than.

Remember that these people rely on customers "falling in love" with their product. Much as it's hard, it's not about falling in love with one, it's about patiently waiting for the right one.

Commercial dog breeders are puppy farms, regardless of what they tell you. If they breed dogs purely for profit then they are, in effect, farming puppies.

Good breeders tend to breed very few litters - often only having a litter if they want a pup themselves - and are extremely choosy about who gets one of their pups. They should be vetting you as much as you are they and if there were a decent breeder they would have vetted and arranged homes for their puppies before the bitch has even been mated.

I would be very suspicious of anyone that sent photos and encouraged me to fall in love with a particular puppy over the internet. The next thing you know they'll be offering to deliver or meet you in a service station carpark to hand over the pup.

Please walk away and find a reputable breeder. Far better to wait for the right pup and pay a bit more to get the right dog for your family than to go for the first pair of pleading big brown eyes and have either you, the dog or both regret it in the long-run. You will have this dog as part of your family for at least 10/12 years, if not longer, depending on the breed, so it's well worth being extremely careful who he/she comes from. I guarantee that your heart will melt and you will fall in love with a pup from the right breeder the first time you get to meet them - it won't just be this pup, that you've only seen in a photograph that will win your heart.

pleeeeease don't buy from this breeder!

i have a friend that bought in similar circumstances and it caused so much heartache, money and eventually(well, not really eventually, it was quite quick) it cost the life of the puppy.

these dogs will not be healthy and will end up costing you a bomb in vet bills.

contact breed clubs, breed rescues or kennel club. only a fool would buy off craigs list, breeder websites etc.

Agree with everything moosemama has said.

Our breeder was recommended by someone who knows the breed, she doesn't advertise pups she doesn't need to, she usually has a waiting list. We were invited to come meet the bitch when she was still pregnant and yes she vetted us and much as we did her. She encouraged us to visit as much as we could once the pups were born so we could bond with our puppy.

I would walk away sorry, what breed is it your after? Go on champ dogs or the breeds club website?

Are they Kennel Club registered? Do you get to meet the mum?

My sister bought two puppies and then saw the breeder on a documentary about puppy farms later. Luckily her two are lovely but others had dogs that were seriously ill, fatally ill, have lt health conditions or are aggressive.

KC registered breeders will not usually have puppies for sale that often and will usually have a waiting list. Most would not be happy with you sending a family member to collect them and would want to meet you, even my cat's breeder wanted to meet me and we still keep in contact sending info and photos now.

Smokeandglitter KC registration is pretty much meaning less. I could breed my kc reg dog tomorrow with another kc reg dog and then register the litter and I don't know a thing about breeding dogs. Puppy farmers kc reg too.

If you substituted the phrase 'puppy farmer' for 'commercial breeder', would you still be keen to buy a puppy from this person. Because commercial breeding is puppy farming, whether it's a few litters or thousands.

True fanof, but it's quite uncommon that puppy farmers bother and if you have their kc details you can look them up more easily and ask other breeders more easily if they have heard good/bad things about the kennel. Sorry, it came across a little wrongly in the above post. It should really read "good and trustworthy breeders will not usually..."

A quick google has 87 adverts for kc reg puppies and 1753 adverts on pets4homes . Given that these are ads for puppies available now rather than breeders looking for waiting lists then it isn't that uncommon at all.

I'm not saying they are all puppy farmers but there is so much more to it than kc registration that it id not even a good starting point. Breed club would be a better one.

What sort of breeds it? Why don't you look on champdogs? Is it very rare?

We've found a lovely breeder on there, who sends me pictures everyday, and we've been to see the pups at 3 weeks, we will go again at 5 and pick up at 8.
Mind you we are in London and she's nr Blackpool, but tbh I think it's worth travelling for the right dog.

Never buy a puppy without seeing it in the flesh !!!! never ever . I breed dogs very occasional when we want a new show dog and I am willing for people to visit as many times as they want . I don't take deposits as I would rather people don't have a puppy than hold them to random with a deposit. I would never sell you one of my pups without you visiting Good breeders will be know to others in their bred . Please pass on this dog and look via breed clubs for a puppy. Also kennel club registration means very little unfortunately it only means the parents are pedigree not that they and the pups have been health tested :(

I completely understand what everyone is saying. I have had dogs my whole life.

I have had dogs from various sources over the years.
I've dogs from local people who have had a surprise litter, dogs from breeders who were kc reg, dogs from cat and dog home and a Great Dane from a breeder who was recommended to me by dane owners.

The dog who was healthiest, hardiest and most loyal was a wee mongrel from the pound. Got her when I was 19 and she died last year aged 18. Even now I could cry typing this. She was just the best wee dog. It was like she felt I had saved her and she was just connected to me. Out of the dogs I have had she wasn't the best looking or the easiest going but she is the one who completely stole my heart. And I really have loved ALL my dogs.

My pedigree Great Dane from the recommended breeder had the most trouble. Perhaps just relating to the breed but it makes me feel so much about dogs is luck.

We now have a dog pound rescue who we got two years ago. He is a huge chocolate labradoodle now 6 years old. He has been fantastic with the children and I feel we were lucky to find him. Which happened by sheer chance. We went to the home to find a SMALL dog and the biggest dog chose us!

I still feel I would like a small dog. I also miss having a bitch. My children have never experienced the joy of a puppy.

Since looking I have come across stuff that makes me want to cry. People selling their unspayed 2 year old and ad says 'not neutered and due to come into season soon'. I feel so angry when I read that. Some people are disgusting.

The thing with this puppy was it looked like my old mongrel. My wee love. It was just a wee cross breed and when I contacted the woman at first there was no indication of her being a breeder. She said it was a mistake. Dog had come on holiday and her dog came into season. So I had already seen photographs etc when I came across her ad for other 'well bred, pedigree pups'. It was in this ad she said she was a licensed breeder.

I won't buy the pup from her. I won't allow myself to be that irresponsible but it was hard once I had seen the pup and her looking like my old girl.

I have been in touch with a kc assured breeder as recommended by the breed club but tbh she was just horrible. I know it must be hard to sieve through the buying on a whim people and the responsible forever home people but she was just bloody rude.

The whole thing is a minefield. I'm not sure which is most difficult finding the 'right' breed for us or the 'right breeder'.
