Hi all. This is the first of what I'm sure will be many requests for advice!. First of all thanks to all of you who helped with my earlier queries about getting a rescue dog. Yesterday we picked up a lovely 3-4month old crossbreed from a rescue foster home and she's already settling in beautifully. The only problem is she seems really itchy. She's been de-flead and I can't seen anything on her. Should I de-flea again? Could it just be stress? I've kept her on the same food as she was having before (Arden Grange puppy). Obviously if it continues I'll take her to the vey but there's not much to see. Just wondered if any ideas?
TIA

I would ask the foster mum if she was itchy while in her care. If it's not fleas, it could be an allergy that's been exacerbated by the stress of moving home. The hard part is in finding out what she's allergic to.

My rescue cross was really itchy, turned out she has an intolerance to wheat, which is used as a filler in many dog foods, and which they would not eat in their natural environment. I switched her to a grain-free mix, JWB duck and potato or salmon and brown rice, and she's now got a lovely glossy coat and no itching.

I'm so glad you have rescued - so many lovely dogs needing good homes.

Good luck with the detective work Smile

Thanks - will certainly email her. AG is supposed to be hypoallergenic, but does contain Maize. Will certainly look into it all - she's coping well but is certainly quite stressed.
