Hi. Puppy is 14 weeks old and he had a stone in his mouth so DS (11) went to take it out. As he did so the puppy scratched his arm with his teeth and they broke skin and bled. Very small bleed. Initially he thought the dog had scratched him with his nails but this couldn't be the case. The scratches are 10cm long and there are 2 of them. Not deep just broke skin but they bled. He was fine about it and I wiped with antiseptic wipe and he is fine.
Me? I am now panicking...could the fact that puppy broke skin make DS ill? I have googled this and all sorts of scenarios are coming up, rabies etc.
Puppy vaccines, flea and wormers are all up to date. This is our first ever pet so this is new territory.
I don't want to over react by taking him to the doctor etc so please MNers put my mind at rest before I drive my DH mad with my worrying. Disclaimers I'm due on tomorrow so this could be making my hormones overact. TIA

if your kids injections are up.to date as well he'll be fine, it's just his puppy teeth which are sharper than his adult teeth, dog saliva is actually quite sterile due to being more acidic than ours so dont worry

Highly unlikely to lead to infection. Keep an eye on it just like any other scratch if it becomes hot, red, swollen, particularly painful or discharges then you should go to the doctor. Problems are very rare with dogs, cats however, another story.

Ok thanks. I will keep an eye. I think this is the second time it has happened to him. Last time he disturbed him when he stole a sock. That was a couple of weeks ago and those marks have nearly disappeared, again, he thought it was nails but I believe it was teeth that scratched him. The skin broke and bled. I have told him that he must now call us but at 11 he thinks he is also able to manage the dog.
We are off to puppy training early July...can't wait now.
Still worrying about rabies etc but if he is ill then I will take him to doc. Will his tetanus jab still over him? Last one was at 4 part of pre school injections. Why am I worrying? Arghhj

If you are in the UK you have no need to worry about Rabies not reported cases in at least 50 years outside of quarantine.
