We adopted a 2 year old rescue dog a month ago. He had been a stray and was underweight so we were advised to have him on 3 feeds a day. He's been steadily gaining weight and we're ready to drop him to two feeds.

Problem is a soon as dawn breaks, he wakes from his bed on our bedroom floor, jumps on us, runs around the bedroom, getting more and more hysterical until you get up, feed him and let him into the garden. It's feeding he wants, not particularly toileting although he mostly goes once he's out there. Once that's done, he's happy to go back to bed and sleep for another hour or so.

Does anyone have any advice on how we can train him not to wake us at the crack of dawn each day? At this rate we'll be up at 4am in a couple of months.

Anyone?

He woke me at 5 this morning. I gave in to his crying and jumping around the bedroom at 5.45 and fed him. He then went for a pooh and then went back to bed for 3 hours!

Meanwhile I have bags under my eyes and am as grumpy as an overtired toddler.

Could he sleep somewhere else where it stays dark? Or invest in some blackout blinds for your bedroom .
