Nose bleeds

Can dogs have nose bleeds and if so what generally causes them . My dog just came back with his ball on the field and his face was blood spattered. Having bought him home and cleaned him up I can't find anything in his mouth /tongue /lips and when he came to me on the field he had a blob of blood on the end of his nose. There is no sign of blood up his nose now and he seems fine in himself .

There are several different causes of nosebleeds in dogs and they do need a good investigation. Investigation is likely to involve bloods, x-rays, looking up the nose and also involve flushing and even MRIs. Without investigations it is impossible to treat appropriately.

Mine had a sinus infection a couple of years ago. He didn't have a runny nose at all but he sneezed and it seemed to explode with blood, splattering the kitchen floor and wall. I took him to the vet, they gave him antibiotics and it cleared up in a couple of days.

Are you sure it was his blood on his nose?

I think the first stop is the vet whatever the cause is.

Funny you should say that because by the time we'd walked home the only evidence of blood was on his beard ,where everything gets stuck . When I told my son he said perhaps he'd found a murdered corpse whilst rummaging in the hedgerows ! I bloody hope it wasn't . I'm going to see if it happens again and then follow up if necessary , he seems perfectly normal .
