Dogs eating grass.

I've heard that it is good for their stomachs? If that's right, then I have an idea, but feel free to tell me if it is a bit silly Grin

Our garden (the part that the dog has unsupervised access to occasionally) is patioed over with a raised flower bed running along the length of it. As it is coming to summer time and I will probably be at home for the six week holiday, I'm hoping the weather will be good enough to have the door open all the time so he can come and go as she pleases - and it would be nice if I could be out with her Grin

Because of her personality, she just enjoy running when we are out on her walks, so I'm contemplating playing grass seed in one area of the raised bed so there is grass for her to eat. Is that a silly idea?

I think dogs prefer wild grass/vegetation and will find it on walks when they need it.
My lab never eats the lawn grass. He goes through grass eating phases, I can't tell the difference but he seems to seek out specific kinds, or maybe it needs to be at a certain stage of growth. If he finds some he likes on walks he'll graze on it for ages.

It's couch grass they tend to go for.
So if you've got a rubbish lawn, like mine, or grass creeping into borders Blush like mine, then they will go for it.
They mostly do it when their stomach is empty & are having a bit of a bile attack.

My dog only tends to have a munch on our walk, even though our lawn really needs a haircut so it's plenty long enough for him to eat. He just doesn't eat it!

Btw what's couch grass?

I have been told that. They eat grass when they need to be sick. But if others haver eaten it and not been sick, then I'm not sure if that is correct.

I thought that the sick thing was a myth and they just eat it because it tastes nice.

Mine eats grass just for fun I think. He does eat a lot of the garden grass if he feels unwell, and will be sick but also he will have a munch when we are out most days and that seems to be a snack.

So it is a bit of both I think. It does seem to be a specific sort that he eats though, just lawn doesn't interest him.

Mine eats particular blades of grass occasionally (sniffs thru to find the one he wants).
Early hours of one morning he ate a whole bush of mint........is never sick after eating grass or the mint tho so no idea why he does it!
