Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound).

Jake
I didn’t really want you,
I wasn’t really sure,
And I’ll admit I had my doubts,
When you first came through that door.

Not small, or cute, or fluffy,
With big, soft puppy eyes,
But tall, and thin, and bony,
With bald, pink, bulging thighs.

You weren’t the kind I had in mind,
Not in any way,
“Perhaps it would be better if I took you back today,
Before we know each other,
It really won’t be kind,
To keep you here for one more day,
And then to change my mind.”

But against my better judgement, I decided you could stay,
And quickly I discovered you were kind in every way,
Your gentleness and patience, they really stole the show,
“Why these dogs are wonderful, I must let others know!”

For you’re my gentle giant,
Who just needed the chance,
To show us all what you could be,
To wipe away that history,
And dispel our preconceptions, which put us all to shame,
And so we come to know and love,
What lies beneath that frame.

And now I’ve come to understand,
What I missed right at the start,
That greyhounds need that great deep chest,
To house their great big hearts!

Also on another note, the Droopys are a big family aren't they? How many offspring does his father have? Sprocket currently has 4427 siblings, his father was Brett Lee who is still producing puppies now even though he died over 2 years ago!

Droopy family is massive ( am an ex bookie so have seen plenty of them race lol)
Will have to have a good reaf of his history later as dh just had a quick scan of it last night x

Wow that dog is so cute! Never seen markings like that before. smile

Those links to the posters are great, I may print them out for DS.

MagratGarlik Tue 09-Apr-13 10:35:12

That dog is gorgeous - there's obviously some Labrador in there, but what gives those markings?

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee Tue 09-Apr-13 11:34:31

There's a name for it that begins with C, but I can't chuffing remember!

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee Tue 09-Apr-13 11:35:51

Oh and he is a Labrador! Although he has a massive head which makes me think of a Retriever, maybe he's a Lab x Retriever.

MagratGarlik Tue 09-Apr-13 11:43:15

Cute.

I was just watching Jessie walking into the room. She always puts me in mind of some ageing model. Tall and with legs that kind of take over her whole body. Anyone else get the same impression from their pointy?

mistlethrush Tue 09-Apr-13 13:00:54

That's a Tabby dog!!! grin

Mistlehound, whilst she does have long legs, is more obviously 'long' rather than tall. She is exceptionally long for her height.

Hi y'all!

Billy's off to kennels for 2 weeks on Thursday and is healing up nicely. DH has been last minute called for some dream work in the US he can't turn down and our lovely dog walker has a job in Malta. She's Italian and it turns out that Billy has a whole lotta social life when she walks him! Her friends live on a house boat on the river next to us and apparently he goes and hangs out there with them... we bumped into these aquaintances of ours the other day and the woman got a wag, lean and head press! I was shock and she was all 'we're old friends'. Who knew?

He's being kennelled with Pixie, an 8yo black girl who is very sweet apparently. Not that I requested them to be set up when we booked in last week, oh no...

We're all walking them together on Thursday when we drop him off. wink

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee Tue 09-Apr-13 20:11:35

It's Chimera! That's the name I was trying to remember.

Hi Betsey! Glad to hear Billy is doing well, how is he with other dogs now? grin At his socialising! It'll be lovely if he and Pixie get on well won't it? And for 2 whole weeks! It'd be terribly cruel to tear them apart wouldn't it? wink grin

MagratGarlik Tue 09-Apr-13 20:18:15

Oooo, two matching black greyhounds -that'd be lovely.

:-D at Billy's social life.

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee Tue 09-Apr-13 20:25:45

Sprocket is going on a short holiday too, he's going to the fosterers next Wednesday and coming home the following Monday. I'm going away for a few days on the Thursday (18th), I'm going to Wales to visit a friend who also happens to own Greyhounds. . . grin I'm leaving DD and DP and I cannot WAIT!!

MagratGarlik Tue 09-Apr-13 21:32:50

How lovely, Cunny. Have a wonderful time!

Pixie and Billy - here's hoping for a wonderful fortnight together... wink

YY to two matching black greys - so beautiful. So right.

grin at Cunny's trip to Wales. It will be immense!

MissBetseyTrotwood Tue 09-Apr-13 22:44:22

If there were a 'LIKE' button for Cunny's Welsh odyssey I'd be hitting it right now!

Pixie is right at the bottom. Bad photo but let's see how things go on Thursday. She'll need to like a loud house. Billy likes nothing better than curling up on the sofa for a Star Wars session. Especially if it's the one with the Ewoks. grin

I want to know roughly where she's been for the first 8 years of her life too...

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee Tue 09-Apr-13 22:44:29

It will indeed Scuttle, it will indeed!

Anyone else have anything fun planned for next weekend then? How about you Scuttle? wink

Oh and yy to ageing model Magrat! My friend has a brindle grund, I love the way she walks, she kind of sashays, but stiffly iykwim? She's 9 or 10 now though so I imagine when she was younger it was much more flouncy grin

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee Tue 09-Apr-13 22:48:59

She sounds lovely Betsey. I did a double take when I saw Hugo though! If he had white right up to his bottom lip he'd be the spitting image of Sprocket!

MissBetseyTrotwood Tue 09-Apr-13 22:55:50

So many black dogs in there at the mo. My faves are Froggy and Lottie but I'm a sucker for the underdog (no pun intended) and I worry that poor little Pixie won't find anyone... DH is very anti but he always says no. Then he gives things a try and likes them.

Off to bed now... I'm on early morning walk tomorrow! Night x

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee Tue 09-Apr-13 23:00:29

DP is like that Betsey, he won't try new foods/fruit/green veg because they look disgusting hmm but I blindfolded him once and fed him a load of strawberries and he really liked them!

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee Tue 09-Apr-13 23:00:53

Goodnight Betsey smile xx

MrSlant Tue 09-Apr-13 23:12:54

Hmmm, I might be in a certain area of Wales near the weekend...

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersFiancee Tue 09-Apr-13 23:18:55

How is your BIL MrS?

Saw David today, he's looking so much better but he's awfully fed up. He'll probably have to have his feeding tube in for a year or so! shock The flappy bit that separates the food pipe from the windpipe is knackered, that's why the bits of food were getting into his lungs.

MagratGarlik Tue 09-Apr-13 23:21:54

Funny, sashaying - yes that's exactly it, but stiffly as you say (she's at least 7 by now - we think more like 10). I think the flamboyant stripes add to the effect.
