The doghouse

Dominance theory (not a bun fight)

I have just read In Defence of Dogs and really enjoyed it. I hadn't really considered it before, nor had strong feelings but had been "trained" in the 1990s by going to classes. All I want to say is I bow down to you MN Doghouse people and can see why you react to sweeping dominance statements. I still believe that dogs need to find their place and know where they are in the family but I totally concede to your general consensus. Thank you.

'I still believe that dogs need to find their place and know where they are in the family'

To be fair, I think that about my DP and DP as well Grin

There's a massive difference between being in charge and assuming everything's about dominance though.

Totally, a subtle but essential change of attitude for me.

Read Jean Donaldson's The Culture Clash next. I think it should be required reading for every dog owner! Smile

Also "Don't Shoot The Dog" - brilliant book with lots on learning theory.
