The doghouse

Is my dog likely to develop this habit?

He went off to a foster home yesterday, and I asked his fosterer how his first night went and if he left any accidents. She said no, he went out 2-3 times as her other dog has to go out a couple of times in the night otherwise she wees inside. I'm just hoping my dog won't get used to being let out in the night now as he really doesn't need to. From what I understand, her dog goes out every night 2-3 times so is it likely that my dog will get used to going out and when he comes home will he expect to go out in the night?

depends on how long he is away for but no i dont think he will want out all night is it during the night or late on ? but i think when you get your dog back he will go back to normal, it is like if they go to boarding kennels while you are on holiday they will do things differently to you but usually they fall back into routines once home,

We sometimes find that Sprocket's brother or the Norty Minx need to go out in the middle of the night. In general, all the others stay put and ignore it, unless they can hear something very exciting such as the fridge door being opened or rustlings in the garden that mean a cat. Provided you don't reward the behaviour by giving cuddles or play if he gets up, just straight out and straight back in if he needs to go, then he will resume sleeping through. My guess is that after the novelty has worn off at foster home he will probably stay in bed too Grin especially if we have a few really cold nights.
