Loofa, Lolly and the old black lab...

Quick update on my dogs...

Loofa, still poorly but happy - no meds for over a year which is amazing but he is still thin and 'broken' but eating, loves his walks and is generally ok. He is 3.5 now and to be honest, we didnt think he would get past 2, so every day is a bonus.

Lolly, well she was my hard work girl. From the minute we had her she was full on. After lots of training, agility twice a week, 2 long walks every day, games, puzzles and down time she still wanted to work. There were some other 'things' that happened that made us realise she wasnt supposed to be a pet dog, so...

She is now nearly finished her training to be a police dog which I am so very proud of. From the first meeting with them she was on the ball - only had to be shown things once and she picked it up. The force have said lots of positive things about her homelife and how fab she is which makes me happy, and yes I am sad that she is not with us but know that we made the right decision (although not an easy one)

I also get to see and hear how she is doing which is good and know that her handler is lovely, she is with another dog who she adores and lives with the family.

And then after Lolly left we did some emergency fostering and got a 14.5yr old black lab, deaf as a post, v poor eyesight but gorgeous. DD fell in love with him (heartbroken after Lolly went, but thats another story) and he now lives with us. He will spend his twilight time with us and I am glad to have given a home to a rescue who was in serious need.

Jax, this is such a lovely, lovely post. Smile There's something very, very special about oldies - the time we spend with them may not be long, but every single moment is golden.

Glad Loofa is happy too, and that's amazing about Lolly. Smile

thanks scuttle he is a lovely old boy - and I am sure would have been a handful in his youth. My DD and him are best buddies and he makes us laugh. Still does a little play bow and tries to play with my DH whom he adores.

Loofa and he get on fine - they both pretty much ignore each other, have the odd sniff now and then and loo licks his head on the way past him sometimes. For the first few days Loofa tried to play with him but now realises he is too old after he accidentally knocked him over!

I am just the walker, feeder, groomer! Grin

What a lovely post! I am so glad that Loofa is happy, and it's wonderful that you have given a home to an old-timer. And go Lolly! That's amazing. You must be so proud of her. Thank you for sharing :)

This post made me smile alot. We recently took on a rescue hound as a friend for our pup and although I loved the idea of taking on an oldie I have to admit that selfishness on our part and practical issues got in the way. I'd like to think that one day when the current two are a bit older and we are all a bit less active we will be able to do so. Great news about Lolly too.

Your dogs sound lucky to have found you.

aw thanks everyone.

I walk old lab with DD to school some mornings, actually I just tag along as DD walks with him. No pulling, no dancing, no bad manners... although sometimes he has a poo, bless him, not a lot of control in that area, when he's gotta go... he does!
It's ok, we always have poo bags on hand, but it is quite embarrassing. Blush
