Hi i am thinking of getting a puppy i saw a patadoodle outside argos yesterday ( it was so cute ) the owner said it was very well behaved but my partner claims his freind had one which was naughty and thinks i should get a labradoodle . Does anyone know any of these dogs , Is it true they are clean and don't drop hair . do you know a good breader in the cornwall area (callington).

We have a 2 year old Labradoodle. They don't shed hair as they have a wool coat. They are clever dogs, and have a lovely temperment with children. However, they are VERY bouncy! Mine is still prone to bounding off so is kept on a lead for walks. Always!

It's difficult to predict how they will behave really as they are both such a new cross breed. I don't know patadoodles but labradoodles come in all sorts of variations of coat/size/behaviour because of this. I would advise against buying a dog because it looks cute or has a nice name when you know so little else about them so first off I'd advise getting in contact with a breed rescue who will be able to help you work out if they may be the right fit for you.

Get a poodle. There are no good breeders of patadoodles!?! Confused or labradoodles.

They're a fashion accessory and the breeders are in it for the money. The man who created the labradoodle now wishes he hasn't because of the suffering it has brought to dog welfare via people over breeding for the money, breeding from untested dogs, buying dogs as a fashion statement and not because the breed is suitable. etc.

I hate all this MN anti labradoodle stuff. I have 3 second gen doodles from a good breeder and I have their parentage etc. There are good and bad breeders of all breeds of dogs IMO.

BUT, although I dearly love mine and they are great family dogs I talk more people out of getting them than in.

They are very sociable, hate to be left alone and much brighter and more bouncy than a lab. They can grow big! (30-40kg). Unless you are at home mostly and love walking about 1 1/2 hours a day dont get one. Our 3rd doodle was a rehome from someone who had 2 very small children and lived in London. She simply couldnt walk the dog enough and the dog destroyed their house. We have lots of room and I work from home, she is lounging on the patio just outside where I am working, but she has had a good hours walk already.

Exactly what Doin' said.

One of my best friends has a laradoodle. Not wooly at all. Like a lab with a poodley face, whiskery ears and chin, lab coat, moults just as much as my lab.

Labradoodles (or any other doodle) aren't a breed, so you won't really have a very good idea of what you are getting with one and some shed, some don't and you won't know which you have got, well, until it's starts sheeding...

I do not believe that there are 'good' breeder of labradoodles, or any other doodle. Of course, some are better than others, they health test, they put a bit of thought into what they are breeding, but that still begs the question as to why they are breeding and it's certainly not to better the breed, as Labradoodles aren't a breed and it's certainly not to produce another puppy to keep and show, (in order to eventually hopefully better the breed) because they aren't KC recognised so can't be shown. Most breeders of doodles breed to produce puppies to sell. There is no 'breed standard' and breeders do not appear to be breeding for any particular type or traits.

If you want a puppy then it's a good idea to think about what you want from a dog, how many walks etc you can provide each day, for how long, if you want a dog that will be able to go off lead with some training, something that needsa lot of training and time or something more laid back and easy to train, then have a look at different breeds and see what fits your criteria. Speak to lots of different breeders (find good ones through your local breed club for the breeds you are interested in, not local papers, pet shop ads or even the kennel club website) and they will be happy to speak to you and probably even be happy fro you to visit and meet their dogs.

What Doin and Midori said. There is no such breed as a patadoodle or a labradoodle. They are just cross breeds bred by people to make themselves money. They have no way of knowing how the dogs will turn out. If you want a cross breed make some enquiries with a rescue centre. If you want specific characteristics then look for a breed that will suit you and find a responsible breeder. Don't waste several hundred pounds on a crossbreed from someone who's only out to make a quick buck.
