She ate a rat that had been poisoned and it killed her. She was so lovely. She ate anything but she was so loving. I looked after her so often and when I used to visit (they live in SW France) she went mental, whimpering with pleasure and rolling around on my feet. She'd wait at the bottom of the stairs when she heard me getting up in the mornings and I adored her. I can't stop thinking about the pain she must have been in. I'm due to go out there in about ten days and my 1 year old DD was going to meet her. Now she never will. Sorry if this seems like a massive drama but I am just devastated and I don't know who else to talk to about it.

Sad It's not a drama, it's painful and sad and it's ok to be upset.

I was in pieces when my first dog died.

It's ok and perfectly natural to be sad.

(((hugs)))

It is 8 days since my dog died. I am devastated.
Sending you lots of un-mumsnetty hugs. >
I think time might make it easier to deal with & once you get past all the 'first times' might also help you come to terms with it.

I'm so sorry to hear this. What an awful thing to happen. Take care of yourself, and allow yourself time to grieve.

She was also a Golden retriever and she was only 5 Sad They used to have two and the first one died about 2 years ago - equally heartrending but this one was more sudden as she was so young and it was so sudden.
Thanks for your kind words.
