I have very little experience with dogs. My in laws got a puppy a few weeks ago but have had to go abroad unexpectedly so the puppy has come to stay with us.

I have all his equipment, food etc but I need advice on training, length of walks etc so that I know what I should be doing :)

He's a mix of King Charles and another toy breed and four months old.

Any help gratefully received!

Hi, young puppies don't need much walking as it can be bad for them. So just take it for a short walk and ensure it is stimulated by playing with a ball or something. Don't allow it to pull on the lead by perhaps walking it holding a treat in your hand and telling it to heal. Give it the treat when it walks correctly.

Good luck

Thanks Natzer, would 15-20 mins be about the right length of walk?

He seems to enjoy running around the garden playing with my children so hopefully that's stimulating him :)

Perfect Puppy by Gwen Bailey is a good book for lots of puppy tips. She has some clips on youtube too I think

I wouldn't do any more than about 15 mins if that at his age. Look online for some really good training tips.

Walking is more about socialising and also teaching it to go to the toilet outside of your garden (pick it up of course Grin).

It's not like a large dog that needs lots of exercise.

Thank you both, very helpful.

He seems to be settling in well, he's very relaxed and doesn't seem phased by the change of house at all. :)

It looks like he's going to be here for some weeks so I'll probably have a few more questions!
