Hello, Can any of you help please. My Dad Has taken on an old intact terrier mongrel from an old lady who lived locally and died. He had always agreed to have the dog and the dog was handed over willingly by her relatives. The old lady had the dog from "a rescue" we don't know which one but he was in a bad condition by the time the rescue had him.

Our dilemma is that the vet has located a microchip and given us the number of it. Do any of you have a log in to the register. We want to do the right thing and transfer the chip into our address but have no way of doing it without a log in. The vet said it wasn't in their jurisdiction to trace?

Our worry is that the original negligent owner is found and demands the dog back.

Any ideas at all or anyone willing to log in to the register for me please.

ring the company the chip is registered with, explain the situation, give vets details,

we have done this a few times with dogs with previous issues.

ask for conformation of changed details to be sent to you and vet.

make sure the dog has a tag with your dad's contact number and the vet's number on in the mean time.

As said the procedure is to contact the register they will then write to the registered owner giving them 28 days to dispute change of ownership. Only if there is no dispute will the details be changed. Only the register can change details we have a log in, but it enables us to register new chips nothing more. This is way it has to be otherwise stolen dogs would have their chip details changed.

I did speak to them and the chip appears to be registered to a rescue in the town of origin. Dad is so relieved that no one is likely to whisk him away and the vets are contacting the chip database today for him.
