removing dogshit smell from basement

we have a finished basement with carpet etc. which dh uses as an office.

we're taking care of a friend's dog. have done so before and she was no trouble, lovely little thing.

not so much this time. she has shat on the (carpeted) stairs down to the basement... and now the basement smells of shit.

i have cleaned up the shit, scrubbed with dish soap, scrubbed with antiseptic wipes, put down some diluted white vinegar & bicarb and am now waiting for that to dry. will vacuum it up tomorrow.

but dh's office still smells of poop. it's sort of wafted down there somehow. i have a few ikea scented candles on the go, but we have no fan and the basement window opens only slightly.

any ideas about how to get rid of smell? he has a client in tomorrow afternoon and i would REALLY like to deal with it before then... he can postpone but obvy we want to avoid that.

Biological washing powder seems to work the best for us, if a bit liquid it might have seeped into the underlay and have you checked it's the only pile of poo?
