The doghouse

I just put one of those calming pheromone collars on my crazy dog

I cannot BELIEVE the effect it is having.

Shock

Not only did she let me brush her, she is now... lying down chewing her kong. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. The whole family keep making trips to go and stare at her in astonishment.

I almost want to believe that a dog walked past our gate just now and she didn't bark at it, but surely that was a hallucination brought on by pheromone fumes wasn't it? Was it?

Wonder if they work on over zealously loving cats...

Tell me more! I could do with one for my mad dog. Where did you get it from?

I bought it from my vet. It's a thin plastic collar soaked in some sort of pheromone that calms her down. It is unbelievable.

I'm definitely getting one.

I wonder if they work on hyper 2 year olds.

It's an adaptil collar the sister product of feliway for cats. When it works it is amazing, however, it doesn't work for every dog.

Would it work on Whippets who have suddenly decided that sleeping in their previously adored crate is now scary after having spent three nights with a pile of greyhounds to sleep on?

Its a DAP collar - Dog Appeassing Pheromone collar, basically it is a chemical that mimics the smell a mother dog produces to calm her puppies.

You can get collars, sprays and diffuser to plug in.

You used to have to get them from your vet, but now they are available in pet shops and possibly on Amazon.

They won't solve all your problems and don't work on all dogs, but they can help bring a dogs arousal levels down, so you can then address the behaviour.

Would it help with walking a dog who gets so excited she tries to jump on top of our other dog and chew her way out of her (other dog) lead??

Neither dog gets walked now as they pull me too much.
