What do you pay for grooming?

Just curious. Thinking of getting Jasper groomed, as all his flaggy, wispy bits keep getting twigs and stuff caught in them.

I pay £20 for my shih tzu to be bathed, clipped, nails trimmed and ears plucked. It is quite reasonable I think. I'm in Yorkshire.
He always smells so gorgeous afterwards too - whenever I bath him I struggle to get rid of the dog smell!

In West Berkshire my groomer is £30 for full cockatoo clip shampoo and dry. Plus he gets a canine party as all her clients socialise together having a great time.

I've booked in with a groomer who has a shop. It's 29 quid for bath, clip, dry, nails, ears, anal glands, bandana and cologne (WTF?!). Sound about right?

When I was grooming, majority of dogs smaller than a cocker were under £30, full works, including cologne which is great, it smells good on the day but if dogs get wet it reactivates and there isn't a wet doggie smell :)

£35 - £40 for our tibetan terrier - very, very hairy and sometimes a couple of matts. And unlike our previous tt who would fall asleep whilst being groomed, this one fights every stroke of the brush. We are in Surrey.

I am looking into getting our Welsh Terrier pup hand-stripped at the moment, it's about £45-50 , but less for clipping

What is hand stripping? Jasper is a cocker / springer cross, but his coat is more springer than cocker.

It seems that the bandana and cologne are part of the package. The website helpfully also states that I can have him dyed a variety of colours or even have glitter attached to bits of him. The possibilities.....

Sorry cockapoo clip. At the moment he is a little like a cockatoo as he needs a clip.

handstripping is where they remove the dead undercoat from wiry type dogs, not sure which breeds, but quite a lot of the terriers seem to have it done. They are the ones that don't really moult fully. They can just be clipped too but it makes the fur softer apparently, round here clipping is about £35-40

Suburban, are you planning to show your pup? Before we got our Westie everything I read said that you had to have them hand-stripped or it would change the coat etc. We then talked to a few (pet) Westie owners who all said it wasn't necessary unless you were planning to show, so we ended up getting her clipped. She looks absolutely fine and it doesn't seem to have changed her coat at all (she still has the wiry topcoat and typical Westie appearance you'd expect). She doesn't shed noticeably so I can't speak to that issue but it might be something to consider. Might be different for Welshies though because they have a very wiry coat, yes?

Our groomer charges $60 (about 35 GBP) for bath, clip, ears, nail-clip and bandana (my favourite bit).

Seems a lot but I think she bases prices on dog breed, and as scruffy boy is crossed with poodle that bumps up price.

Messy - no we're not planning to show so I think we may just get him clipped for the moment. It's good to hear your story as the hand-stripping sounds quite a palaver, plus expensive (£50 every 4-6 weeks is more than I pay to have MY hair cut )

I pay £35 for a handstrip and scissor trim for my cocker spaniel, it absolutely does not need to be done every 6-8 weeks (he'd be bald!), he only needs stripping every 6 months and could do with a tidy up between but I just do those myself. Some info about handstripping here.

We are twenty five pounds to be cut and washed every eight weeks and inbetween he gets washed and any stray hairs tidied up for ten pounds.

I get my Lakeland Terrier hand stripped every 3 months or so - it's £35 up here in deepest darkest Cheshire
We have a wire fox terrier now as well, so I may as well double that price!
If we don't hand strip them, though, they lose the waterproofing wire and go all fluffy, and my Lakey would lose the colour in his coat. When the hair dies in the follicle, it goes white - and he's a lovely red and grizzle at the moment!
