We have a new addition to our family- adorable, doe eyed Cocker Spaniel.

So tonight- should I get up every few hours to toilet her or do I wait to hear her wake up?

Any tips?

Congratulations! We used to take her out every hour during the day and every two hours at night. If she was sleeping we just carried her out for a wee.

Oh, after meals, we took her out at 15 minutes and 30 minutes, just to be doubly sure.

It gets better really soon, though Smile

With any puppy we've had the first night is a late one, one of us stays up till about 12.30 taking pup out as usual as with day time, they have the final play and toilet then bed. Then the other one of us gets up about 6am and lets pup out and then the day begins, gradually over the next few weeks as pup settles we lengthen the 'night' time for pup. We've never had to get up during the night and have on occasions had a pup sleep in it's bed in our room but usually they are crated at night for the first few months, then crate door is opened then they move out of crate into a nice soft bed when they can be trusted not to shred it! good luck with new puppy :)

I am definitely not an expert, but during the night I only took our little chap out when he cried..... don't worry too much we were up twice the first night, 4 times second night and after that he has been brilliant .

Congratulations on your new addition!.. name?.. photo?

Oh my- this pup has my heart.

Went to bed last night at 11pm- took her out first for a wee then settled her down- I had planned to get up the minute I heard her cry.

She was silent all night- not a peep. Got up this morning (at 6.30am) to find a poo and wee on the puppy pad near the back door.

She is so good - but I know its early days with lots more still to do.
