me again, another food question? Is there any reason I cant keep dogs on chappie?

we are either 2 or 3 days into chappie to try and settle erics tummy and satin balls to get some weight on him, it is working, he looks better already, he has had 2 poos yesterday rather than 500 he normally has and they are firm, he has gone this morning and again fine, no farting last night. so is there any reason I cant just keep him on chappie, I know it cant be good for his teeth but if I give him wings in the day to keep the teeth clean is it ok? I know it sounds a bit dense, but I had only tried it to settle him, I didnt expect it too work so well.

Nope.

Many dogs thrive on it. It's good food. Try adding a bit of plain biscuit mixer for teeth if you like.

A change of food - if it's the right food - has miraculous results.

My dog ate Chappie for 17 years..obviously didn't do him any harm

He had the tinned Chappie although they do now do dried Chappie which we have also used, better for their teeth apparently.

Chappie is one of the best 'cheap' foods you can buy. It was reccomended to me by my my trainer as a cheaper alternative to JWB for Devil Dog's allergies. My vet agreed it's a good food. We mix it with biscuits to bulk it out but there's no need to if you give bones etc. too.

We also use chicken wings. He gets those for breakfast. Plus a bowl of goats milk for the whippet if she's looking a bit skinny, which to be fair, is most days, seeing as she is a whippet . It appeases DH though who is convinced she is unhealthily slim

We also give raw meaty bones procured for free from the local butcher as a treat on a saturday.

We use chappie quite often, and when our elder dog was young it was the only dog food I could find that suited him.
Now I do a lot of raw, but if I am getting tinned for any reason I'll get chappie or butchers tripe (which is too rich for young dog but suits elder one).

All my dogs are fed on a mixture of dried Chappie and tinned Chappie and I wouldn't change it for anything. One of the dogs has a very sensitive stomach and Chappie sorted it out straight away. Cannot recommend it highly enough, great stuff.

When you say you give your dogs chicken wings, are they from the supermarket or pet shops and do they have the bones in them?

My old boy lived on dried Chappie for 16.5 yrs, as it was the only food that seemed to agree with him, including several more expensive veterinary prescription diets! I know lots of folk look down on Chappie and its ilk, but my dogs (now dog) were always happy and healthy on it.

my vet said that if a dog won't eat at all that chappie warmed in the microwave ( was warned it stank the house out) is something that will usually tempt their appetities.

I've been known to run out of my dogs' normal food (which I can only get from the feed merchant) and have to run out to PAH for an emergency bag of dried Chappie.

They absolutely love it! In fact I've considered putting them on it full time.
