Dog blankets in the washing machine

Ok, i've put some very smelly and furry dog blankets in the washing machine. They're going to fill it with fur aren't they? And any subsequent washing will attract fur won't it?

What have I done!?

Any advice on best way to remove fur from washing machine?

Now its warming up I do wonder if dog might like a wax :)

I do it all the time. I haven't noticed much fur on our clothes, but the filter needs clearing out VERY regularly. I used to do it about once a year once a month but now I do it every week.

My washing machine has been out of order for 10 days now and my house is starting to honk. It is gross. I usually put his bedding in the wash every other day.

Do a maintenance wash afterwards and remember to wipe down the door and inside the rubbber seal. Microfibre cloths attract the hairs.

Thanks, i'll definately be cleaning them more regularly now. Even with a cold I could smell them

I have tried hoovering the bedding before putting it in the machine - that helps quite a bit.

I also try to do a dog towel wash, or people towel wash (which I tumble) immediately after a dog bedding wash. But a few weeks ago I forgot and did a black sock and trouser wash, and it took me absolutely ages to remove the hairs once the clothes were dry..... we have a yellow lab!

I do dogs bed, followed by floor towels, followed by empty 90degree waash with bleach.

I do dog beds and towels as the last wash of the week then do a maintenance wash before I do the next load.

I wash dog stuff every week as I think you get less build up of hair that way (also shake bedding outside before I put it in the machine).

Dogs (boxers) get bathed once a month also - I love it when they are soft and silky smooth!
(I mean the dogs are boxers not the dogs boxers!!!)

I was the dog sheet/dog blanket every week too so that it doesn't get too bad, more often if it's been muddy. Then I do the dog towels next so that any hairs end up on them. I hate it when I forget and get dog hairs on the clothes wash! I only do the maintenance wash once a month.

I wash hairy blankets too. After the wash I leave the door open until it has dried out inside. then just hoover the inside of the machine and round the seal. as the hair is dry it is really easy.

My first washing machine got clogged up with ferret hair. After that, I bought a washing bag that you can get for pet laundry. No problems after that. Will try to find a link for you.

Leave the door open til it's all dry, then use the little round bristle attachment thing and Hoover it all out. Works a treat ¡

Thanks everyone. I washed the stinky blankets on Friday followed by an empty hot wash and wiping out the hairs. Has been fine and have even done a white wash (dog is black) and no problems!

Will be washing weekly from now on as well as brushing dog daily.

Dog did get a bit distresed when I put the blankets on the line and kept dragging them off and putting them back on her sofa. I never realised she was so attached!

i use vet bed, wash it and then hang and tumble for a while that gets tons of hair off it
I give the WM a quick wipe post dog bed wash, that's it

I usually put on a pair of rubber gloves and wipe the bed down with my hands before putting the bed in the machine. Gets loads of hair off.
