Its two days past, we were going to eat it tonight and I just noticed the label Angry

dh thinks we could rip a drumstick or wing off and feed it to Mouse (who is on RAW these days), can we?? He's not had chicken bones yet, just Natural Instinct raw mush and lots of lamb neck etc

I do, but I don't think you're meant to. Something to do with bacteria. Mind you if the chicken smelt fine and wasn't glowing green I'd eat it myself, so I'm probably not the best person to ask Grin

We buy all of our meat at the butchers. They don't come with sell by dates so we have the 'sniff test' instead.

Grin it smells and looks fine. I think they probably play on the safe side, date-wise...hmm.....

if it doesnt smell, i would rip the leg and wings off, give those to the dogs, slice the breast meat off for yourself and make tea with that, and give the dogs the carcass as well.

It'll be fine, ours has had properly off stinky chicken before with no ill effects, and she has a very sensitive tum normally.

No qualms about giving it to the dogs but we subscribe to the Dooin' school of 'meh, it's unlikely to kill us' so the dogs only get it if it's threatening to walk out of the fridge itself. Not killed anyone yet.

My dog's eaten a rotting rat corpse heavily garnished with river mud with absolutely no ill effects. Chicken 2 days past its sell by date should be fine if your dog is already used to raw.

My dog ate a rat once, fortunately it was a freshly caught rat that he proceeded to dismember and disembowel on my sofa

Oh the joys of living on the doorstep of a park.

Dh: What's that!?!
me: What? OFFS, it's a sodding rats head. He must've caught it in the alley when I went out with the bins. Hang on I'll get the shovel. Where'd it go? Confused
Dh: He ate it

Try to think of it as just another protein source...I find it helps when my Trash Hound scoffs he corpse of something that's been dead so long it's original species is difficult to determine and the maggots are just additional protein. Good job his stomach appears to be lead lined.

Thank you Smile

One chicken wing duly enjoyed, Mouse now snoring on his blanket with a full tummy.

dh once had dreadful food poisoning from chicken (campylobacter) and has un-fond memories, so there was no way he was eating it for tea or anything else. Mouse is in luck Grin

Mine ate a green and stinking rabbit once, was fine. I could still heave.

Shock

Urgh.

Yes, that puts a barely-past-human-consumption-date chicken wing into perspective Grin
