The doghouse

My Miele can't cope with the dog hair!

Oh dear! My 3 year old Miele Cat and Dog seems to have given up on my brand new carpet and its completely covered in dog hair!!

We got the whole house new carpets in mid January. Early Jan the dog had started shedding an awful lot. Our old crappy worn down carpets were hoovered twice a day, and the Miele seemed to be coping ok. Since the new carpets were put down we are now at the point where it is insane amounts of dog hair, and we can't get them hoovered up!! The new carpet is much thicker and softer than the old ones, so maybe that is the reason?

We have only had the dog since November, so don't know if its the dog, the new carpet, or us!

I have ordered a new floorhead, which should arrive tomorrow, as my ex kicked my hoover once, and bent it, making the suction crap, so I threw it out. Have been using the turbo head since, which seemed to cope with pet hair fine (but nothing else!!)

I know labs shed - a lot - but how long should we expect the seemingly insane amounts to last for?! We are brushing her daily now, and have a furminator, and she even let us hoover her last night to get the left behind bits off. It just doesn't seem to be slowing down to what she was like when we first got her!

Help!

Hmmm. Well can I just say that I have now got the tune of 'My Bonny Lies Over the Ocean' in my head, but with the lyric 'My Miele Can't Cope With The Dog Hair'......

Aaaand here come the men in white coats....

Anyway. Our Miele seems to be coping fine with our increasingly shedding dog. The turbo brush is brill - is this what you're using? Have you checked the underside of it to make sure it's clean? You might have to trim the spirals of dog hairs off the mechanism to free it up. Is the tube blocked at all?

Do you change the air clean filter every year? And the other filter (I think there are two - one is locked away inside a little box somewhere).

Is your carpet 100% wool, or has it got any synthetics in it? Synthetic carpets are a NIGHTMARE to clean - we had one in our student house, and no amount of hoovering would persuade it to give up its precious hair and dust collection, so I've always had 100% wool carpets since.

She's a lab. They shed year round. We have a black lab and beige carpet. Our Dyson does the trick but 48hrs later.....

Problem solved! New part arrived, one very quick hoover later, the white storm deposited on my carpets have gone!

Plus she had a good brush and furminator last night, and the shedding has really decreased down to normal levels!

Phew!

Ps. The turbo brush isn't blocked or anything, I regularly take it apart and thoroughly clean it and remove all hairs. Filters etc are changed on the usual basis too.
