anyone do this? i have a slightly overweight but very friendly and gentle dalmation and think she would make a great PAT dog.

We looked into this for our doddle but sadly he isn't allowed as he walks on halti and he has to be able to walk in collar Sad
Shame his wonderful and very used to SN kids because of our two.

willow will walk pretty well on a lead, but normally has a body harness for comfort. she is also great with kids, any kids including SN kids as i have 2 also. we can take her to fetch the kids to school, stand outside the gate with her and loads of the kids come to say hello. she can often be found waiting patiently while 3 or 4 small children have draped themselves over her.

PAT dogs need to be calm, friendly, well behaved and pretty bomb proof. If you look up Pets as Therapy on the web you will find the requirements and how to apply. It is a small charity and the acceptance process can take some time and has to be rigourous because you are likely to be visiting the vunerable. I do recommend it, you and your dog will gain more from it than you expect and you can bring joy with your visits. There are more establishments asking for visitors than there are Pets as Therapy dogs or cats.

I am just registering my labrador for this at the moment. We are just awaiting our assessment - not sure if we will pass. So will watch to see if anyone responds to this!
