Can anyone help with dog nipping?

She's not biting but when over excited she chases at the back of us and nips your ankles, trousers. It is a bit nippy and we tell her no but she does it to DS who is only 3 and he feels it. I'd like to nip it in the bud but I am not sure where to start. Can you help? Thank you.

How old is the dog?
How long have you had the dog?
What breed is the dog?

can I bump this thread. Murphy is doing exactly this too. He is less than 8 weeks old so we just go stand on a raised patio where he can't reach us. He then seems to stop. Not sure what will happen when he can step on to the patio!

it doesn't take long to break this game/habit

walk more slowly...the quickness excites and makes it more of a game. Take the opportunity to chat and distract the pup, use its name, clap your hands, squeak a favourite toy, hold a treat and say "heel" if you like. ...anything really to get the attention away from the ankles!

it's all about distraction.

I have a puppy, I just stopped still and made a sharp "no" noise, the games stopped, attention stopped and no rewards at all. She soon got the idea that nipping means no games and it's boring.

When she tried to nip my hand I'd just show her the flat of my hand so she couldn't bite it, then when she licked it gave her loads and loads of praise.
