Elderly relative with equally elderly dog - advice please?

Can I start by saying I know nothing about dogs!

I have a very old aunt who lives about 100 miles away with her very old dog. Her house is too big for her, and she's really just staying there because of the dog. I've been expecting the dog to die for the past few years. I can't remember its age, but it's really old. I have arranged for a dog waker, so it gets walked every day. IF for any reason, my aunt had to be hospitalised suddenly, or if she agreed to go into a home (unlikely) she would need to know that the dog was being taken care of.

I can't take it because the DC are allergic. Planning ahead, who would I phone to take the dog in an emergency?

Thanks

Have you tried contacting The Cinnamon trust?

Thank you - that's exactly what I was looking for. I'd never heard of them, but that's great information to have ready in case I need it.

Your Aunt does need to join and make an arrangement with them before something happens and then they would help in an emergency.

Thanks for the advice here. Sadly, I think the dog will be put to sleep today. It's stopped eating and drinking and its back legs don't seem to be working. My dad's gone down to take it to the vet.

sorry to hear of your aunts dog Agent I hope that all is well.

Maybe your aunt or her friends could spread the word about Cinammon Trust?

It is an amazing charity.
