Dashsund - What should I know?

I'm going to see a friend tomorrow who has a Dashsund, I'm interested to learn about the breed before we commit. I thought it was best to see the wee chappy in action so to speak Smile

What questions should I ask her? It would be good to have a 'list' so i don't forget. Forgive my dimness full of cold and lack of sleep due to teething DD!

Cheers

Commit to what? Is this your friend's older dog who she's looking to rehome? (And if so, why?) Or a puppy she has bred?

IMO They are not the best breed to have as family dog.

I have had dachshunds for years. I love them.

However, the breed has problems. I lost the best friend I've ever had because of back problems.Sad

My advice? Run don't walk, all the way to your nearest rescue kennels and adopt a Heinz 57.

Save yourself the pain.

Going by the one we sometimes look after: endlessly entertaining, endlessly stubborn, bottomless pits of stomachs, utterly self-centred, HATE going out in the rain, believe they're about five times as big as they really are (I'm a Big Scary Dog but I'll do my Big Scary Barking from behind your legs), know EXACTLY how to milk their cuteness and big, mournful eyes (add on half an hour to each walk for the number of times you'll have to wait while people stroke him).
