The doghouse

Any tips for calming our dog down when she's meeting people out and about please?

She's a nearly five YO black lab/quarter cocker spaniel cross (bloody gorgeous ears Grin)

She's fine walking without pulling, fine off the lead, does what we tell her, but if I take her out with me when I've got DD2 in the pushchair and someone inevitably stops (to comment on how gorgeous DD2 is Grin) she's gets a tad 'boisterous'.

She sits when I tell her normally, so obviously I've tried to control her to say hello gradually, getting her to wait.

But she's making such a fuss she can't hear me and I end up having to say it quite firmly (bordering on shouting) which is embarrassing when someone's standing there waiting to talk.

The same goes for taking out treats to get her attention, she ignores them completely and continues trying to get across just how pleased she is to see the person.

She is better at not jumping up, but it's a similar picture when someone comes to the house.

The problem is having the time when the opportunity comes up when we're out, if it's a brief chat there's not a lot of time to get the training in.

It's sad really because it makes me dread/not take her out every time, and I do a lot of walking, so she's missing out.

I'd be grateful for any advice thanks.

I found minimu's advice on my (very similar sounding problem) thread here very helpful with my equally sounding, over friendly lab.

The technique certainly helped, you would just need some willing friends to rope in who would be happy to lend a hand.
