My mum is not pleased. My Dad is over the moon, but still misses his dogs dearly. My mum is bereft and says the ony thing that would make her feel better is either her dogs Sad or my puppy Hmm

I'm unsure what to think, tbh. But my mums house was awful with no dogs and my dad was past himself home alone all day yesterday. He even visited me, to walk my puppy. My dad doesn't particularly like me and never visits. I am happy with that arrangement Xmas Grin

To be fair to my sister, she hasn't really just rushed out and done it. She has been planning on getting herself a pup for a good few months now, but the opportunity has just arose, after a friend contacted her, to say his friend had a lurcher x pup he was trying to sell, as he misguidedly thought that he could do a better job than rescue and couldn't keep the pup, due to his GFs allergies.

I suppose this is one X-mas puppy that will not end up in the pound once it hits 6 months old.

She seems to be taking it quite seriously and had me up till 2:30am questioning me about what she needs to buy her puppy and telling me she is no longer coming to my x-mas party because she can't afford to bring a bottle, she needs to buy her puppy a collar and bed. I noticed on FB that she has also cancelled an upcoming night out.

They've called him Biscuit. According to my sis it's mum was a Saluki/Grey X and it's Dad a Lurcher/Bull Terrier X, but it looks just like my Whippet pup except biscuit coloured.

Good that she's cancelling stuff to be able to afford him etc, and that she has rescued him if he was destined to go homeless. I can understand why your parents would find it hard to come to terms with at the moment though.

At least she's thought carefully about him and not just got a puppy on a whim like some people I know.Xmas Angry

My parents have just had their dog PTS last month. I doubt they will get another of their own.
The running joke of the family is how they are going to steal one of my babies pups after I've done the hard part! Although they are arguing over whether to pinch my Staff or my Doodle!Xmas Grin

I've been to visit it with my pup. It's sweet, quiet little thing.

My sister is very taken with it and was quizzing me on insurance and the pet care plan I pay into for flea/worming treatment. My sister spends money on nothing but vodka, normally.

Although she has expressed a wish to breed it with my pup, as did my mum Angry. My puppy is to be spayed after her first season.

Their house didn't seem so quiet, but it's still very apparent that the dogs are missing. My mum seemed happier at least.

I'm really pleased that they are finding comfort in having the puppy there.

I can speak from experience and know that they will still be very sad for a long time about their dogs that are sadly no longer with them.
When my pup died, we got another one 3 months later but I still cried for my first pup. Even now, 7 months on, I still shed some tears for him but they are few and far between.
Getting another dog definitely helped me to move on after his death.

It does sound like your sister is doing all the right things. Its not like she just went out and came back with the first dog she saw in a pet shop. I do feel a bit sorry for your parents though that they have been denied the chance to go out and choose a dog for themselves.
I hope it all works out well for everyone.
