How can I stop my dog from eating slugs? He just throws up afterwards

Supervision - or consider a baskerville muzzle when unsupervised. May not stop him totally but will go a long way to stopping him getting close enough to most of them.

Are you treating him for lungworm? Slugs and snails are a source of this quite serious parasite and you should talk to your vet surgery about this asap if you don't already treat. Advocate is probably one of the easiest methods to use, apply to the back of the neck once a month.

My dog was last wormed at 3 months and the tablet they used also protected against lungworm.
If I catch him eating a slug, I have to scoop it out of his mouth which is a nasty, nasty job to do. Its all slushy and squidgy and makes me want to puke!

Thanks for the replies. Never thought of a muzzel.I'll check on the lungworm as I didn't know about this. He has a worming tablet every so often and has a flea/tick treatment. We have loads of slugs and a garden with woody areas. He can be out and I can't see him.

i often put my dog on a lead even in the garden so I can give him a tug if he appears to be trying to eat something. Or the other option is a quick scan of the garden first to dispose of any slugs or snails.

The best preventative is advocate as only needed once a month, some of the other tablet wormers need to be used in a totally different way to routine worming schedules to be effective for lungworm so don't be misled into thinking they are covered necessarily. Please double check details via your vet.

Thanks for the replies. I will give the vet a ring to be sure. I don't have the product name in mind but I hoping its ok for his needs.
