Looking forward to this. Love Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton. Loads of guest stars too.

Anybody watching tonight? Starts at 10pm smile

bluebump Wed 05-Feb-14 22:04:18

I'm watching, I have high hopes!

Stopmithering Wed 05-Feb-14 22:35:49

"is it me or is there a shitty smell in here?"
LOVED it. Genius.

KirstyJC Wed 05-Feb-14 22:38:35

Very good I thought. Looking forward to the next one.

KerryKatonasKhakis Wed 05-Feb-14 22:42:47

I thought it was brilliant.

Really funny and a lovely dark ending!

Laughed out loud when imposter Ian told her to 'calm down, bitch' (or words to that effect)!!

Yep, enjoyed it. Great casting, and very well played by all.

MrsBradfield Wed 05-Feb-14 22:58:30

Loved it. Have been eagerly awaiting and it didn't disappoint.

Wingedharpy Thu 06-Feb-14 01:31:19

It was excellent.
Had a touch of "Tales of the unexpected" about it, for me.
Very clever writing and covered the comedy/tragedy genre very well.
Poor Stinky John ...and others.....

perplexedpirate Thu 06-Feb-14 07:24:38

Brilliant. Bloody brilliant.
What with Reece Shearsmith, Steve Pemberton, and obviously Mark Gatiss going from strength to strength, you realise that British television writing owes SO much to L of G.

KenDoddsDadsDog Fri 07-Feb-14 21:35:28

Phenomenal, so clever. TOUGH TITTY !!

Headlikeafuckingorange Sat 08-Feb-14 19:07:40

It wa brilliant! Can't wait for the next one. Hilarious but also gave me a chill down my spine when they realised who Ian really was!

LetZygonsbeZygons Sat 08-Feb-14 19:11:00

LucyLasticBand Sat 08-Feb-14 19:34:35

LetZygonsbeZygons Sat 08-Feb-14 19:36:51

LucyLasticBand Sat 08-Feb-14 19:41:33

oops shoudl have been katherine parkinson.

DipDabDabDip Sat 08-Feb-14 19:43:40

I watched it last night and loved it. I want to marry Reece Shearsmith one day! <whistful sigh>

LucyLasticBand Sat 08-Feb-14 19:44:11

i think they will be on wednesdays

KenDoddsDadsDog Wed 12-Feb-14 22:18:48

Reece looks great with a 'tache

perplexedpirate Wed 12-Feb-14 22:35:36

I thought that was phenomenal.

KenDoddsDadsDog Wed 12-Feb-14 22:45:28

Just fantastic. They are so talented. The under the bed bit was hysterical.

weirdthing Wed 12-Feb-14 23:29:16

They are the cleverest and funniest people on tv right now. LOVE it!

weirdthing Wed 12-Feb-14 23:29:37

I follow Reece on twitter - his tweets are funny too.

morethanpotatoprints Wed 12-Feb-14 23:39:45

I don't know if I should watch them tbh.
Loved LG watched everyone and knew half the scripts.

I have done this with other things and they've disappointed which then spoils the original stuff I liked.

I'll get dh to watch them and tell me.

aoife24 Thu 13-Feb-14 00:42:51

The enormous dog was hilarious too.

NadiaWadia Thu 13-Feb-14 02:41:58

Last week's was good, but tonight I couldn't watch anymore after they threw the little dog against the window. Not funny.

LucyLasticBand Thu 13-Feb-14 06:40:12

it was so funny, so good, i needed a laugh and that gave me one

5Foot5 Thu 13-Feb-14 13:15:46

I think both episodes so far have been brilliant. Last night's had so many laugh out loud moments.

I loved the bit with the text messaging near the start.

KenDoddsDadsDog Thu 13-Feb-14 14:37:45

Poo or a wee?

weirdthing Thu 13-Feb-14 17:00:15

The dog thing made me laugh - sorry!

LetZygonsbeZygons Thu 13-Feb-14 17:23:08

wow, didn't think id like it but I did! love Steve Pemberton.

Did NOT recognise RC without his horrible histories glasses!

fave bit was the texting scene!
had bits I didn't like but overall made me laugh!

LetZygonsbeZygons Thu 13-Feb-14 17:23:42

RS. Shearsmith!

Stopmithering Thu 13-Feb-14 22:53:57

Brilliant. And love choice of Denis Lawson. Classy stuff.

wintera Fri 14-Feb-14 06:37:45

Love this. Look forward to it every week now. Only thing me and husband actually sit down and watch together! Great stuff!

perplexedpirate Sat 15-Feb-14 14:14:56

The texts, the dog, the 2 for £10!
So funny.
Apparently reviews say the next one is the best of the lot.

GreenShadow Sat 15-Feb-14 14:58:00

This series is the hit of the year so far as far as I am concerned. Absolute genius.
I've watched the Sardines one 3 times now and picked up on new things each time. Must show DS3(14) this week's one as he'll love it.

harryhausen Sat 15-Feb-14 15:08:58

I think this show is genius. Agreed the texting at the start was great - "Is your phone on silent?" grin

Loved Sardines too. Intrigued to where this is all going. I heard all stories would link up somehow.

GreenShadow Sat 15-Feb-14 15:22:26

Ooh, I didn't realise there was going to be a link harry but it sounds the kind of thing they would do.

LetZygonsbeZygons Sat 15-Feb-14 19:18:39

can someone find the 1st one p[lease and link it? cant find it on utube or anything.

Headlikeafuckingorange Sat 15-Feb-14 19:22:13

When the enormous dog trotted in! grin grin

wintera Sat 15-Feb-14 20:29:44

I'm pretty sure Reece S and Steve P have said they are completely unrelated eps.

GreenShadow Sat 15-Feb-14 20:34:00

Here you go Zygons. It's on BBC iPlayer

LetZygonsbeZygons Sun 16-Feb-14 19:05:29

thank you thanks. do I just google iplayer to get it on my pc?

will watch it when I get a chance.

LetZygonsbeZygons Sun 16-Feb-14 19:06:21

and Green why aren't you on the HH thread on telly addicts? did you see the valentine spesh? come and post on that thread pleeeeeeaaaazzzzz.

GreenShadow Sun 16-Feb-14 19:59:10

iPlayer is on the BBC site - so just www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer

I have been on the HH thread, but will revisit immediately....if I can find it....

harryhausen Mon 17-Feb-14 16:54:55

Sorry my mistake. The Independabt says they are self contained 'parables'. They're not connected - only in that all the stories take place inside a one room or one house and all are numbered 9.

At the beginning of the first episode I could have sworn the announcer said that the series would reach a dramatic conclusion. I'm sure I didn't dream it, but she sure confused megrin

LetZygonsbeZygons Mon 17-Feb-14 17:36:38

Ben Willbond!!!!!!!!!!!love him! thanks again Green for linking that.

LucyLasticBand Wed 19-Feb-14 23:27:12

anyone catch this tonight?

it was a really good one.

KenDoddsDadsDog Thu 20-Feb-14 07:08:26

Have saved it up as I was too tired last night . Apparently it's the best one of the series.

5Foot5 Thu 20-Feb-14 10:18:59

Still not sure what I think about last nights. It seemed less funny and more dark and uncomfortable than the others.

Not the twist I was expecting at the end. Very clever.

wintera Thu 20-Feb-14 14:17:01

I thought last night's was very good. Not funny but more like a very creepy drama.

member Thu 20-Feb-14 14:23:22

Last night's was more on the black than comedic end of the spectrum; still enjoyed it. Will need to iPlayer last week's episode, wasn't sure after episode 1 tbh.

wintera Thu 20-Feb-14 14:46:35

Oh last week's was very good. We laughed a lot at that one. One thing that's staying with me now is pronouncing the 'ensuite' bathroom 'onsweety' like in episode one.

LetZygonsbeZygons Thu 20-Feb-14 17:31:25

ooh that was creepy!!!! what a good actor sTEVE pEMBERTONIS, YOU FEEL ALL SOFT AND SORRY FOR HIM AT FIRST AND THEN THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE BY THE END FROM HIS BRILLIANT ACTINg.

GAAAH! ITS EVEN AFFECTED MY CAPS LOCK! cba TO CHange it back!

what a twist at the end, didnbt see that coming. very clever writers and actors

LetZygonsbeZygons Thu 20-Feb-14 17:32:32

reminded me of 'armchair thriller' or 'tales of the unwxpected'.

wintera Thu 20-Feb-14 18:19:08

Yes that's what they are going for apparently, Tales of the unexpected, type of thing. Agree about Steve Pemberton being a great actor too. He was outstanding last night.

southeastastra Thu 20-Feb-14 19:33:23

this is fab only caught half of last nights but watched the art theft on watch again, really brilliant! reminded me of tales of the unexpected too but funnier and weirder!

KenDoddsDadsDog Fri 21-Feb-14 22:05:52

Tom and Gerri was really sinister. Felt so uncomfortable, brilliant.

LetZygonsbeZygons Sun 23-Feb-14 17:42:52

was just reading in tv times Reece Shearsmiths doing an ITV drama with Alex Kingston.

and of course Steve in Benidorm (don't watch that though) .

LetZygonsbeZygons Tue 25-Feb-14 19:50:44

Is it okay that Im getting quite the crush on Shearsmith?

he seems to be flavour of the month on tv atm. 2 things hes due in on itv soon as I understand.

KenDoddsDadsDog Tue 25-Feb-14 21:02:54

He's mine!!

LetZygonsbeZygons Wed 26-Feb-14 17:10:50

ahem! .>>gets claws out and ready for handbags at dawn>> grin!!

RiffyWammal Wed 26-Feb-14 17:28:01

I spotted Reece Shearsmith walking round Warwick Castle. My DCs had a photo with him. smile

He surely has an ageing painting of himself in the attic doesn't he!

We're loving the series, the quiet episode was my favourite so far. I enjoyed Tom and Gerri least because I am uncomfortable with anything that has an ambiguous ending and leaves me unsure what was real and what wasn't (Fight Club, Inception, American Psycho - all infuriated me!). Fantastic acting all round though. Who else noticed Tom's colleague was the eunuch from Game of Thrones?

LetZygonsbeZygons Wed 26-Feb-14 17:43:38

were not jealous envy!

Great that the silent episode had Charlie Chaplins granddaughter isn't it? the coincidence that CC was the king of silent comedy.

Looking forward to tonights.

I loved RS on Horrible histories with glasses on. reminded me of Kevin Spacey.

and Steve Pembertons got the most gorgeous blue eyes!

RiffyWammal Wed 26-Feb-14 18:03:05

Oh yes - and Oona Chaplin was in GoT too! Trying to think if anyone from 'sardines' was in it now...

Sometimes I quite fancy Steve Pemberton. I heard him on Richard Bacon's show the other week and he sounded lovely.

Reece Shearsmith was ace as a ghost on Vic & Bob's House of Fools last week.

LetZygonsbeZygons Wed 26-Feb-14 18:04:46

Gaah! missed Vic and Bob! you need to tell us in advance us if and when these guys appearing anywhere!!!!

KenDoddsDadsDog Wed 26-Feb-14 19:42:07

Looking forward to tonight's episode . I will be sad when the series ends.

LetZygonsbeZygons Wed 26-Feb-14 19:57:20

Hope they repeat them on BBC3 or something again. too good to be on so late. 9pm fine.

KenDoddsDadsDog Thu 27-Feb-14 07:45:26

Tonight's was different again but I loved it. Steve Pemberton is doing a charity auction of his own breath in a balloon!

LetZygonsbeZygons Thu 27-Feb-14 17:21:17

it was good but I didn't think it was brilliant and thought the ending was a bit lame.
felt a bit deflated (no pun intended!) really after the last 2 brilliant episodes.
And Reece wasn't in it! and don't really like Tamsin grieg anyway!

KenDoddsDadsDog Thu 27-Feb-14 22:13:49

The 70s style house brought back a lot of nostalgia for me!
Obviously not the death bit grin

LetZygonsbeZygons Sat 01-Mar-14 17:01:57

its got loads of great plaudits AFAIK. not one word against it. theres 3 letters in Radio times praising it. it did lastweek too.

LetZygonsbeZygons Tue 04-Mar-14 17:27:32

awww. Did you see Steve on This morning? hes so lovely!!!

LetZygonsbeZygons Thu 06-Mar-14 17:40:00

I never cease to be amazed at what a BRILLIANT actor Steve Pemberton is!

He totally makes you focus on the character, not the actor playing them IYKWIM.

last nights was brilliant again.

KenDoddsDadsDog Thu 06-Mar-14 19:06:49

He was so good in the end scenes . Reece was very Keith Drop in some of last nights.

LetZygonsbeZygons Thu 06-Mar-14 19:29:30

don't know who Keith Drop is!

hes very good too, I just think Steve deserves a Bafta/Oscar whatever it is, hes so believable as his characters.

KenDoddsDadsDog Fri 07-Mar-14 07:12:31

Keith Drop is a character in the last episode of LofG.
Agree , Steve is incredible . Have seen him on stage a few years ago and he was the stand out performer.

LetZygonsbeZygons Fri 07-Mar-14 17:21:29

missed the whole LOG phase!

only got to know these guys through horrible histories and Mark Gattis from his writing a few Doctor Who episodes and being in one too.

KenDoddsDadsDog Fri 07-Mar-14 19:58:03

Oh god you have to watch that and then Psychoville. Inside Number 9 originates from episode 4 of the first series of Psychoville where they did a one room episode. Fantastic .

KerryKatonasKhakis Fri 07-Mar-14 22:34:38

Love, love, loved the first three.

The balloon one was great all the way through but the ending was disappointing.

The Macbeth was good...the performances were just amazing. Yes Ken he was very Keith Drop wasn't he with that theatrical accent! Steve's drunken bit reminded me a bit of Pop the horrible landlord grin

The ending wasn't as strong as the earlier ones but it's still out-classing everything else on TV at the moment for me.

I was obsessed with LoG but I think Psychoville was definitely on a par with it. The Mr. Jelly character and Mrs. Ladybird Face needs their own show!

Any fans of Reece Shearsmith (and Vic and Bob) who haven't seen Catterick yet, need to watch it ASAP. It's my favourite comedy series ever but seems to have just been forgotten by the BBC- the never repeat it. It's quite cheap on DVD, though. It got me through early labour grin

KenDoddsDadsDog Fri 07-Mar-14 22:37:27

Ah yes he was like pop ! I haven't watched much Catterick , must give it a go. Early Doors got me through my waters going and early labour !

KerryKatonasKhakis Wed 12-Mar-14 22:37:07

Eh? What? Argh!

I kept waiting for the twist and for her to get away but that was just terrifying!!

It was really disturbing at the end! lots of good jokes and atmosphere, though!

Ask them how they did the cat!

Will miss this series. The endings weren't always totally satisfying, but I think that's what they were after.

wintera Wed 12-Mar-14 22:44:08

Jesus that was terrifying, I was actually proper scared!

winterkills Wed 12-Mar-14 23:08:59

Omg that was horrible - more like their old stuff that I avoided because it made me feel queasy. Shame they lost the balance right on the last show.

Seriously regretting recommending it to everyone at work now, I'm going to be in trouble tomorrow!

NoMoreMissusNiceGuy Thu 13-Mar-14 08:09:44

shock

I had to watch from behind my hands! And dh thought it would be hilarious to follow me up to bed whispering "mischief, mischief"

But I agree there were actually some quite funny bits and it kept me hooked right to the end (which was ever so slightly disappointing, like the balloon ending was last week).

5Foot5 Thu 13-Mar-14 13:28:43

Yes I was waiting for the twist that never came. Properly frightening - I had quite a disturbing dream actually.

Mischief!

wintera Thu 13-Mar-14 14:06:21

I freaked my husband out this morning by skipping down the stairs singing 'I danced in the morning when the world was begun . . . '

LetZygonsbeZygons Thu 13-Mar-14 17:25:47

okay, you're not going to believe this but its absolutely true

Tues night I had a nightmare that a Gollum like man crawled onto my bed and I could feel the weight of him on my bed coming towards me and hissing ''mischief, mischief''!and just as he grabbed me (I was trying to scream but couldn't find my voice) I woke up in a cold sweat!

I sleep alone so was well scared. forwards to wed night. im watching number 9 and as soon as the girls pulled back the curtain on the bed and saw the ,an there I broke again into a cold sweat (was watching through my hands too!) and when he said 'mischief'....well!!! Id never seen this, was brand new.

how weird is that?
couldn't watch the end, it was late and I was scared in bed. what happened? she didn't get away?

LetZygonsbeZygons Thu 13-Mar-14 17:26:55

and if we ever sing that hymn again at church Ill freak out!(switched back just as credits were rolling)

iwouldgoouttonight Fri 14-Mar-14 11:15:56

I thought the whole series was brilliant until the last one, just creepy and weird. If that had been the first episode I wouldn't have watched the rest of them so I suppose it was good it was last!

I liked the silent burglars one the best 'is your phone on silent?' grin

wintera Fri 14-Mar-14 13:03:16

I thought the last one had some great comic bits to be fair but the second half was terrifying indeed. That ending when he was coming towards her was bloody chilling! Looking forward to the next series, always good to champion something original and not run of the mill.

LetZygonsbeZygons Fri 14-Mar-14 18:24:22

yep, good theyre doing a second series. will miss it.,

My fave was the silent one too, and the dressing room one.

KenDoddsDadsDog Fri 14-Mar-14 20:34:44

Just watched the last episode. Shit scary , the bit with the epidural was just horrible.
The first one was my fave just for the characters and then the silent movie one. But all excellent in their own way.

GreenShadow Fri 14-Mar-14 21:56:57

I agree with most of you that the Silent one was my favourite, closely followed by Sardines.

I'm trying to remember what the 4th one was. Third was the tramp but then what?

KenDoddsDadsDog Fri 14-Mar-14 22:38:46

4th one was the balloon

GreenShadow Fri 14-Mar-14 22:40:53

Oh yes. Thank you.

winterkills Fri 14-Mar-14 22:53:50

Sardines just edged it for me. The writing was fantastically precise and the sudden downturn at the end really cleverly done

SandorCleganeIsInnocent Fri 14-Mar-14 23:57:33

Greenshadow I agree. The silent one was my favourite,

Then Sardines.

Then the tramp one.

Then the dressing room one.

Then the mischief demon one.

Then the balloon one.

I think.

The were all totally compelling, RS and SP are amazing actors and writers...I would have preferred more satisfying endings but I gather that they wanted ambiguous/horrifying Twilight-Zone-type endings.

2rebecca Sat 15-Mar-14 23:39:13

This is brilliant, can't believed we've missed it. Seen 1&2 looking forward to the rest. Loved Sardines.

KenDoddsDadsDog Mon 17-Mar-14 20:56:01

Are you all tuning in to the widower ?

LetZygonsbeZygons Tue 18-Mar-14 18:04:59

don't know Ken I hate true crime stories! and don't want to go off him just when im developing a wee crush. hate fave actors playing killers and stuff (yes I know hes only acting but you know what I mean....don't you?)

KenDoddsDadsDog Tue 18-Mar-14 18:49:20

Yes I do. He was really good , very sinister
