Pissedoffatschool Fri 20-Dec-13 15:12:30

rumbelina Fri 20-Dec-13 15:43:35

What do you mean?? A second series (of two episodes)?

Is the wonderful Saga in it??

Sorry - will go and google.

getdownshep Fri 20-Dec-13 20:02:13

Just saw a quick advert for it on bbc4, the same actors but just two episodes.

googlyeyes Fri 20-Dec-13 21:27:53

The ad I saw said jan 14!

diddl Sat 21-Dec-13 09:58:43

Yes-did it mean 14.01.14-or sometime in Jan 2014 iyswim?

diddl Sat 21-Dec-13 10:02:28

Oops-that made no sense, I see that you put 4th Jan in OP.

There are 10 eps-they must be showing them all!

getdownshep Sat 21-Dec-13 10:56:44

Ad said a double bill so maybe that to start with then single episodes after that!
I'm confusing myself nowgrin

According to Wikipedia(so it may be wrong!)10 episodes on BBC4 starting 4th Jan.So excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunnymeg Sat 21-Dec-13 20:30:43

I think when they showed series one they started with two episodes on the same night. Excited!!

polyhymnia Sun 22-Dec-13 12:44:14

I think they'll adopt the same approach as with Borgen - ie, two episodes each week.

bluebizzy Sun 22-Dec-13 19:26:44

Gutted that Borgen has finished so this will help fill the scandi hole smile Loved the first series so really looking forward to this.

RobotLover68 Mon 30-Dec-13 14:43:09

bumping this - we finally got round to watching the Killing 3 a few days ago and were disappointed with the ending - really hope the Bridge 2 is as good as the first series

ItsIgginningToLookALotLikeXmas Mon 30-Dec-13 23:35:34, does this mean there can be another series of The Tunnel too? (Since it's the same story).

catsmother Mon 30-Dec-13 23:37:22

So excited - have been waiting for this ever since the 1st series ended!

marssparklesdownonme Tue 31-Dec-13 09:25:38

Saw the trailer for The Bridge after the The Little Fir Tree on BBC4. Can't wait, Recording set straight away. Even more excited because this summer I will be driving over the Oresund bridge ( Might have spelt that wrong )on the way to Swedsh summer house holiday we are renting !!!

JingleJohnsJulie Tue 31-Dec-13 09:28:23

So excited. Really wish they wouldn't do the double bill thing. Not everyone can record programmes and sometimes, it's just too late {looks for old crone emoticon}

diddl Tue 31-Dec-13 10:06:45

iplayer JJJ?

JingleJohnsJulie Tue 31-Dec-13 10:11:47

Our internet connection isn't brilliant. Never really been able to watch the iplayer but might give it another go after I've fallen asleep and missed the episodes

diddl Tue 31-Dec-13 10:29:24

Treat yourself to something to record with?

Unless it would only be used for this, of course!

RobotLover68 Sat 04-Jan-14 09:13:59

Another shameless bump

It's tonight!

MrsTwgtwf Sat 04-Jan-14 16:04:20

Another bump for this...not to be missed.

Dawndonnaagain Sat 04-Jan-14 18:00:56

Have set to record, but will be watching it tonight. Yay!

JiltedJohnsJulie Sat 04-Jan-14 18:04:06

DC already bathed, wine in fridge. Can't wait.

hiphipreplacement Sat 04-Jan-14 20:18:07

Can't wait!

Trying to decide which to watch and which to record as Hinterland is on at the same time. I can go for ages without watching TV, suddenly there are 2 hings at the same time!

mousmous Sat 04-Jan-14 21:00:05

lurkingaround Sat 04-Jan-14 21:04:40

Ooh that lovely theme song. Hola everyone. All comfy?

mousmous Sat 04-Jan-14 21:59:53

wow, what a start!
I lova saga, such a strong character.

lurkingaround Sat 04-Jan-14 22:01:03

So what did you think of part one? I think it's looking good. Saga is herself or even a bit exagerated. Jeez part 2 starting already. Short break.

lurkingaround Sat 04-Jan-14 22:02:12

She's great. They're good at introducing characters aren't they?

mousmous Sat 04-Jan-14 22:43:43

intersting angle with the posh girl.

lurkingaround Sat 04-Jan-14 23:01:05

Good, ja?

lurkingaround Sat 04-Jan-14 23:04:02

I wonder what they're going to do with the truck?
Mad mads is a but pschopathic, as is the girl with the big earring. The guy who owns the Foxburg boat ship must be involved.

squoosh Sat 04-Jan-14 23:04:09

I think they're overdoing the Saga Has Autism Don't You Know? side of things a tad.

lurkingaround Sat 04-Jan-14 23:06:48

Yes I agree, she's a bit exaggerated, her character, that is. Otherwise it's good. Loving the storyline. V good telly. I expect they'll moderate her character over a few episodes. I hope they do.

CyberMenStrual Sat 04-Jan-14 23:19:25

Martin's gone very grey hasn't he? And I was pleased to see Saga's boss still there - towards the end of series 1 he was going to relocate, ad I seem to recall that Saga was visibly upset.

CyberMenStrual Sat 04-Jan-14 23:23:06

Parts of the plot seem very similar to series 1 - eco terrorism vs social awareness, and the killing mechanisms being linked to the message (food miles / destruction of habitat / homeless people and child labour in series 1). Could face-changing Jens have set this up (unlikely, but if I am right I deserve a mahoosive thankscake for calling it so early!)

getdownshep Sat 04-Jan-14 23:24:39

Loved it. Liked the way they concentrated on Saga's relationship this time.
Did anyone else notice the picture of the woman on the desk of the posh girls employer?
The camera sort of fixed on it, it was either the new police woman or the "nasty" gang woman.
They have a similar hair style so I couldn't tell which one it was. Maybe he's posting the videos on line?
Can't wait until next Saturdaygrin

MummyUmizoomi Sat 04-Jan-14 23:31:17

Brilliantly gripping! I hate it when its not the box set and you cant just watch one more before bed. (Grumpy emotion)

ThistledownAndCobweb Sat 04-Jan-14 23:33:48

I thought the picture on the desk was the nasty gang woman.

DH thinks the new policewoman has designs on Martin

getdownshep Sat 04-Jan-14 23:41:37

Yes thistle I agree with your dh.
When Martin walked into the office to meet them she definitely perked up then wrangled a lift off of him later on.
So nasty gang woman and IT man are an item.
Also when Martin knew he might have been in contact with the plague virus, I though he was going to go back into the prison to cough on Jens!

CyberMenStrual Sat 04-Jan-14 23:41:47

I'm pretty sure the pic was nasty gang-girl - she was sporting the same dangly earrings.

LucyLasticBand Sun 05-Jan-14 07:46:46

i saw this for the first time, as i tend to miss these swedish things and then regret it.
she is meant to ahve aspergers i read. she was going a little bit OTT in that respect.
but i enjoyed it and forgot i was usign subtitles.
and martin is fanciable isnt he?

lurkingaround Sun 05-Jan-14 09:03:15

Oh yes the policewoman def fancies Martin. And bless him but he will prob have it off with her because he just has no willpower.

And I couldn't figure out who the photo on the mployers desk was either.
But surely the boat ship owner has something to do with this.

Isn't is great to have this for January. I rarely watch anything on tv, amend am v loathe to 'commit' to a series hmm but I love this!

JiltedJohnsJulie Sun 05-Jan-14 10:57:25

Managed to stay awake and watch both episodes. Yay!

fussychica Sun 05-Jan-14 11:09:41

Totally brill. Have missed Saga & co. Won't miss Borgen sooo much now this is back.

Sunnymeg Sun 05-Jan-14 14:34:36

We loved it! We also wondered if Saga has found her perfect man in Jakob and his job/obsession with comics. They could be peas in a pod!!

"Martin says Hi!". Brilliant writing as usual!!smile

lurkingaround Sun 05-Jan-14 14:40:21

Gosh I think Jakob is gorgeous. What a find for Saga. Should that not be Såga? Anyone?

lurkingaround Sun 05-Jan-14 14:42:12

Well I just wiki-ed it. And no, såga means to saw. It's just I thought the pronunciation 'aw' was å. Jeez I'm up myself, I know no swedish.

nulgirl Sun 05-Jan-14 15:30:02

Loving the series. I will be so disappointed though if they decide to pair up Saga and Martin in this series. I love their quirky friendship and it would spoil it if they ended up in bed together.

teejwood Sun 05-Jan-14 15:51:22

Found you all! Big "Hej!" to the usual BBC4 Sat 9pm crew and some new additions fgrin

So loved it last night. Great to see Saga and Martin back.

The picture on the IT manager's desk was of the earring terrorist girl. Do we think posho demanding girl is going to uncover what is going on, like Lucas?

DP thinks Jens is masterminding this, I am not so sure - but someone else is behind it as the group of 4 said something about hijacking the tanker not being part of the plan they had agreed. The owner of the ship is either involved or - perhaps more likely - involved in some nefarious activity that has a negative impact on the environment and that is why his ship was targeted. And we'll probably find out what that is in the coming weeks.

Also think you are right that the new policewoman has designs on Martin - his reputation must go before him, I guess. Or perhaps it's that thrill some people get from getting close to someone who has become a public figure through terrible tragedy fhmm

I half expect he'll work through his demons, get his family back and then fuck it all up by having a celebratory shag with new copette. But I want to believe he will sort himself out and not mess it up <soppy git>

Loving Saga trying to be a good girlfriend, when Jakob obviously has taken her for who she is. Ain't that always the way? Find someone, then try to change yourself or them (or both) to achieve some skewed idea of happy ever after?!

Was v disappointed not to get ep 3 - hurry up next Saturday!!

Oh - and do we think all of this will lead up to the EU/G8?? meeting that Martin was supposed to be taking care of in the first place?!

LittleDoris Sun 05-Jan-14 16:29:46

Saw this on iPlayer today, but there only appears to be ep6-10 of series one on there so I just started straight into series 2.

I was gripped throughout, where I am usually on here while watching TV, this really held my interest. I love the relationship between Saga and Martin, and as a PP said, really hope they don't sleep with each other.

MarshaBrady Sun 05-Jan-14 16:32:20

Dh watched the series 1 on Netflix, I didn't, he kept saying how good it was so have started watching series 2. So far, so good.

lurkingaround Sun 05-Jan-14 17:53:34

Hi teej! <waves furiously> Woohoo another saga with Saga!
Marsha this series and The Killing are the only tv series I can commit to. Seriously good. Love it.

I don't agree with your DH. Would they bring Jens back?
Poor ole Martin. He will cop off with yet one at the expense of Mette. Willpower of a gnat.

You are probably right re G8 tho.

lurkingaround Sun 05-Jan-14 17:54:29

He will cop off with yer one, not yet one. Sheesh.

mousmous Sun 05-Jan-14 17:55:51

maybe that's where the oil lorry is going...

middleeasternpromise Sun 05-Jan-14 18:01:48

I feel like I've hit the jackpot as I only discovered this series when they re-ran the first lot through December at silly oclock in the morning. I literally watched the whole first series Xmas week. Just love the characters and want to go to Sweden now !!! I would so fall for the Martin character IRL, Ive just realised why my love life is so fecked up.

Dawndonnaagain Sun 05-Jan-14 18:10:41

I don't think she's too Aspie. I've read books (many years ago) on how to get things right. A lot of us do. I've known a fair few Aspies just like her. (Looking at you, dh)!

lurkingaround Sun 05-Jan-14 18:22:09

Gosh I think Saga is quite asperger-ish. She gets none of the social niceties or subtleties. And a total disconnect from Martin's grief. She just doesn't get it. I think she's lucky Jakob gets her. Tho I don't suppose we know what he's really like yet.

Dawndonnaagain Sun 05-Jan-14 18:33:05

She is very Aspie, but someone said upthread, it was too much, and she's not. She's actually fairly typical of somebody who hasn't bothered with the social niceties and doesn't see the need. I'm far better than dh because I was 'trained'.
I worry that Jakob might be involved in this somehow, and she won't see it. But I have three Aspie dcs so I worry all the time, anyway!

MarshaBrady Sun 05-Jan-14 18:35:22

Yep I only watch two too Lurking. This and MiC. Good to be discerning (well if you can call anyone that watches MiC discerning).

I love the muted greyness of it all.

MummyUmizoomi Sun 05-Jan-14 20:20:26

Saga is a beautiful Swedish name, it means Fairytale. Its becoming quite a popular name again after years of being an old lady name!

teejwood Sun 05-Jan-14 22:42:51

hej lurking! <waves back>

Dawn I did wonder about Jakob but am hoping he is just a perfect match for Saga <soppy mare emoticon>

Mummy love your point about the meaning of Saga - lovely nod to the story being fiction and also lovely contradiction of Saga's complete grounding in facts and reality. Thank you for sharing!

flatmum Mon 06-Jan-14 08:40:07

I think the Saga actress is overdoing it. Especially compared to the last series. Why would she have regressed so much in a year? And would she really have got to the position she's in with such a poor use of social norms. I read an interview with the actres where she was saying she had been surprised by all the attention and people talking about aspergers so she decided to research it and now I think she is over playing it a tad.

Still watchable though.

squoosh Mon 06-Jan-14 10:10:53

Exactly, last year it was far more subtly done, but the viewer still got it. This time round it feels almost slapstick at times.

Whistleblower0 Mon 06-Jan-14 10:17:37

It's recorded. Watching it tonight. Cant waitsmile

Dawndonnaagain Mon 06-Jan-14 11:40:10

Me: Does my bum look big in this.
Dh: Of course it does, you have a big bum. Why are you asking.

Me: Peel some potatoes please.
Dh: How many?
Me: half.
Result: All potatoes half peeled.
Nah, she's definitely not being too much. The other point is, regression is quite common. It's a safety area. So, the new relationship, or the working with Martin would cause that sort of regression. She has also obviously learnt to do some things, the laughing at 'jokes' was really funny and very accurate, as was the lying.

squoosh Mon 06-Jan-14 11:44:24

Well I disagree, I feel they're signposting it every 5 mins. Was much more effective in the last series. We already know Saga, I just felt like saying 'shut up and get on with the case'.

guineapiglet Mon 06-Jan-14 12:16:34

Hi all - loved seeing this back on Saturday nights - has anyone seen the US 'remake' of it? After the mess they made with the US version of the KIlling, I don't think I can bring myself to watch it. Love the music at the beginning and the atmosphere in the cities, the amazing skies and desolation, and the endless sea. But the characters are so watchable, and that is what is so satisfying to enjoy, the bilingual use of Swedish and Danish is brilliant, fab way to learn a language..

I was wondering if she had slightly 'regressed' or was made to be more 'obvious' because she was missing Martin, who she clearly has a rapport with and is fond of in her own way. Also maybe signposting it a bit for new viewers and the new police she has to work with, like when she took her top off in front of them, etc. She is a brilliant character though, works incredibly hard and is a natural at solving things and working puzzles out.

I really liked her new boyfirend, he seems to 'get her' without any drama, just hoping he doesnt turn out to be in with the bad gang, but I don't think so.

angelos02 Mon 06-Jan-14 16:14:21

I've recorded this. Will I understand it even though I haven't seen the first series?

angelos02 Mon 06-Jan-14 16:14:30

I've recorded this. Will I understand it even though I haven't seen the first series?

teejwood Mon 06-Jan-14 16:40:32

angels my DM is watching it but hadn't watched series 1.

Series 1 gives you the background to various characters, how they met and what they went through.

You could just pick up the main points from series 2 without having to watch series 1 and it is in many respects its own self-contained story. (Feel free to ask here if you have any questions grin)

BUT - series 1 was so good it almost seems a shame not to watch it before starting series 2, which in effect will spoil it if you then decide to watch series 1 iykwim....

teejwood Mon 06-Jan-14 16:40:55

sorry - angelos02

tobiasfunke Mon 06-Jan-14 17:18:17

She has def regressed which I think is for the new audience who are only coming into it. I remember she was really annoying in the first few episodes of the last series until we 'got' it and then it settled down. I love The Bridge even more than The Killing I think, but that might be because I find Swedish easier on the ear than Danish.

CyberMenStrual Mon 06-Jan-14 18:36:53

Saw an interesting tweet today commenting that Saga always speaks Swedish, and Martin always speaks Danish - even when conversing with Swedish police team. It is apparently subtitled in the "home" language when shown in Sweden & Denmark. My ear isn't finely attuned enough to pick up the difference every time, and I would, guess that the inter- country rivalry adds another dimension for the nordic audience. The Danish police haven't come across as being as efficient as the Swedes (shortfalls in investigating the prostitute murder in series 1, and delays in sending the camera footage in series 2)

mousmous Mon 06-Jan-14 18:41:18

danish and swedish are more like dialects than separate language. i.e. they can understand each other but don't speak the other language.
works the same way at the dutch/german border. (and many more languages/countries, I'm sure)

lilibet Mon 06-Jan-14 19:08:35

Can I join you?

I agree with the new woman and Martin theories, but what about the other new one and Saga? He seems to be behaving strangely around her and if you rewatch just after the woman asks Martin for a lift the two newbies exchange a look.

Oh it's good to have it back smile

teejwood Mon 06-Jan-14 20:01:04

lilibet I think Saga and Martin have that aura/reputation of people who have been involved in such a high profile case and people (even police officers) can go a bit strange around slightly famous people (look at the number of coppers who swore Jimmy Saville was a saint fgs)...

It probably is fairly public knowledge that Martin has a problem with impulse control, so the female police officer will think she can get close fairly easily. The new policeman's first interaction with Saga was her changing her top in the office, so he probably thinks he's on to an easy thing. Or maybe he thinks he can play her and get some glory for himself because of her autism? But he has failed to realise she is not stupid and I cheer every time she slaps him down by asking him to do something necessary but not glam grin

teejwood Mon 06-Jan-14 20:01:24

also - welcome grin

coffeeinbed Mon 06-Jan-14 20:08:12

New police woman and Martin def. fancy each other.
But I thought Saga picked on it - which was strange, with her having Asperger's and definitely tried to keep new woman away from Martin.

unless I'm overthinking this

OBehaveMaeve Mon 06-Jan-14 20:08:43

oh I watched this for the first time! really liked it.. I hope that they do a double bill next Saturday as well.

OBehaveMaeve Mon 06-Jan-14 20:10:19

yes, saga side stepping the normal women's 'people-pleasing' niceties is refreshing.

Moln Mon 06-Jan-14 20:13:32

This maybe have been mentioned within the thread but I'm trying to avoid spoilers!!

I've only just discovered this on Netflix!!! But should be finished series 1 soon, so would love to see series 2 soon after!!

I'm not in Britain so can use the iPlayer

Allice Tue 07-Jan-14 09:58:48

So happy that it's back. I think that I might like Saga better than Sarah Lund and I never thought that would happen!

I used to work for a Danish company and have been there a few times, went by ferry to Sweden and back through the bridge a few years ago.

I was amazed at Sweden, it's seems slightly bleak, like someone has drained some of the colour from the surroundings.

VerucaInTheNutRoom Sat 11-Jan-14 22:03:13

Might be a sorting of tobacco stuff they use in Scandinavia called 'snuss' (sorry, not sure of the spelling), it's a mild stimulant.

lurkingaround Sat 11-Jan-14 22:03:26

VerucaInTheNutRoom Sat 11-Jan-14 22:03:54

VerucaInTheNutRoom Sat 11-Jan-14 22:52:33

teejwood Sat 11-Jan-14 22:52:54

Bloody link fail. That'll be the wine, too.

The Killing on Amazon

VerucaInTheNutRoom Sat 11-Jan-14 22:55:00

What did posh girl see? I was titling about on here AND MISSED IT!

teejwood Sat 11-Jan-14 22:55:17

so the brother tried to kill Laura, yes?

teejwood Sat 11-Jan-14 22:56:18

Veruca She saw Julian on the road, someone sitting over him as he was lying on the road, and a face.

coffeeinbed Sat 11-Jan-14 22:56:56

not sure it was the brother

teejwood Sat 11-Jan-14 22:57:00

So is Caroline's sis or hubby involved?

teejwood Sat 11-Jan-14 22:57:59

VerucaInTheNutRoom Sat 11-Jan-14 22:58:22

Cheers. I'm guessing 'new boobs' husband is playing away with the sister.

Swedeheeed Sat 11-Jan-14 23:00:04

Did we see who was unpacking the animal masks - I missed it !

teejwood Sat 11-Jan-14 23:00:39

Oh yy Veruca - why else so keen to get sis set up with the gigalo?

also wonder whether the sis has set up the new conference speaker and whether she, the hubby and the conference speaker are the "they" behind everything?

teejwood Sat 11-Jan-14 23:01:32

Swede looked like the person who had been looking over Julien in the road

Swedeheeed Sat 11-Jan-14 23:02:10

Aha thanks!

VerucaInTheNutRoom Sat 11-Jan-14 23:02:28

No, Swede, we didn't see a face.

Husband, sister + sinister speaker lady = 3. Mother of three?

coffeeinbed Sat 11-Jan-14 23:02:31

I think I like a good old fashioned murder storyline better.
this activist stuff can be hard to speculate about.
the motive is not clear, lots of new characters.

teejwood Sat 11-Jan-14 23:03:26

Veruca but the black jacket and gloves looked the same?

VerucaInTheNutRoom Sat 11-Jan-14 23:04:27

I don't know, I like it when it's hard to work out whodunit. Otherwise I feel a bit gypped.

lurkingaround Sat 11-Jan-14 23:06:40

Oh never thought! New boobs husband and her sister!! Eewww!
Her husband is a Dark Horse. And there's always a dark horse in these. One to watch.

I wonder will Laura live?
Will Martin resist giving yer one a ride?
Will Jakob hang around?
Never mind all the real questions re plot!

VerucaInTheNutRoom Sat 11-Jan-14 23:06:46

I didn't see the jacket and gloves first time. I thought Laura's dad might be involved but assume not now.

Anyway, off to bed now. Looking forward to next week's episodes! Night all...

teejwood Sat 11-Jan-14 23:07:34

Important things:
- the conference Martin was supposed to co-ordinate security for
- the EU Climate conference Caroline is working on
<guessing one and the same>

What does Caroline's hubby actually do? Thinking the new conference speaker is a "true believer" who is behind a lot of this so she can target the conference.

teejwood Sat 11-Jan-14 23:09:03

Quite liked Jakob in this ep <not in that way, still scarred from the y-fronts - urgh> - he was quite funny.

Night veruca!

lurkingaround Sat 11-Jan-14 23:09:53

I'm sure you're right teej. Def Mr. Dark Horse, aka Mr. New Boobs, will be involved.

teejwood Sat 11-Jan-14 23:10:51

did the person standing over Julien look male or female to you? something flashed through my mind "small-ish female"

mousmous Sat 11-Jan-14 23:12:28

caroline should have given mr boob job a voucher for lipo and brain transplant
he's not painted in a good light, is he?

teejwood Sat 11-Jan-14 23:15:24

mous no we're def being told he is an untrustworthy arse!
at the start it looked like he was a nervous hubby somewhat in the shadow of his capable wife. by the end we know he's a lying sexist shit.

mousmous Sat 11-Jan-14 23:48:42

just had a thought.
the 4 from the boat ship, maybe they were another cell that became too hot?

Sidebar Sun 12-Jan-14 00:31:58

Hello. Came looking for this specifically as want to join in picking over The Bridge. It's my favourite programme.

Thoughts -

-yes occured to me that the sister and the husband were getting it on

- Caroline definitenly something to do with EU (I wish they'd made that much clearer, no reason not to) and as Martin was assigned to that, then we know the Summit is going to be a plot, er, summit

-Julian the brother didn't know who he was meeting or that his sister woudl be killed, and he didn't kill Laura. Far too risky for him to have taken her off like that if he intended on killing her, given the obvious work link between them. Also, if he had killed her, knowing she had a camera, and knowing where she had been hiding to take the video, he'd have wanted to look for the camera to make sure there was no evidence.

-Hadn't occured to me that the new speaker, the sister and husband are mother of 3 but really like that idea. Yes, the speaker is definitely a plant of some sort.

tobiasfunke Mon 13-Jan-14 09:33:47

Like Carolinewiththesaggytits I'm going to be 45 next weekend. I do hope my DH has got me a 'brystimplantat'. If not I am going to be very disappointed unless it's a full facelift and liposuction.
For some reason I thought Caroline was going to end up sleeping with the guest speaker.

Sidebar Mon 13-Jan-14 10:39:11

Yes I thought that too, tobias.

I wouldn't rule it out, that she has a thing with the guest speaker, but then the guest speaker turns out to be EVIL.

minniebar Tue 14-Jan-14 07:13:37

Caught up last night.

Does anyone else get that song by The Rasmus in their head anytime anyone says 'Rasmus' in this? Just me?!

On the subject of which, surely someone from this investigation is going to question the neighbours and find out he's a fuckwit?

Is Martin's shrink from The Killing? I think I recognise him (haven't watched Borgen; we've had the first series recorded for well over a year and just haven't gotten around to it).

Do they mostly speak Swedish? Sometimes when they're speaking Danish I can instantly pick it out, and then other times it doesn't sound as guttural as it did in The Killing. Would all Swedes be able to speak Danish and vice versa?

The Guardian blog is worth a look if you haven't already.

tobiasfunke Tue 14-Jan-14 09:00:32

I like the idea that MR Boob Job is having it off with Bodil who, if she doesn't have an ulterior motive, needs to stop with the sex talk and step away from the HRT.
Did anyone else think the Mr Prozzytart wasn't really suited to the gigolo business. When dealing with first time middle aged women I wouldn't have thought going in a big huff because she changed her mind would lead to much repeat business. 1500 kroner for a quick snog. Happy days.

TorianaTollywobbles Tue 14-Jan-14 21:45:52

MrsFlorrick Sat 18-Jan-14 22:44:03

Hej og god aften.

Yesssss. Finally some decent telly from home gringringrin

It's the publisher lady!! Not just killing the male hooker Claudio but she's responsible for the whoooole thang.

That's my vote for now.

MrsFlorrick Sat 18-Jan-14 22:45:17

Oh and the drug company lady's house is beyond amazing. Why don't I have one like that!! shock

mousmous Sat 18-Jan-14 22:46:51

Still loving the house of the drug co lady. Yes sterile but beautifully so. grin
Clearly a DC free zone. grin

mousmous Sat 18-Jan-14 23:01:40

so, the boat owner.
puppet or higher up?
is 'killing loads of people' on drug lady's bucket list?

teejwood Sat 18-Jan-14 23:02:13

Viktoria, the drug company lady surely must be the big bad? Going to die soon so nothing to lose.

If she can stay alive until the summit then she could infect herself with the plague and infect everyone at the summit as her last grand act.

Also - what's the betting she is the ex of boating boy?

teejwood Sat 18-Jan-14 23:02:44

x-post mous!

MrsFlorrick Sat 18-Jan-14 23:07:33

No. It's hyper sexual Bodil publishing lady. I'm serious.

I also think drug co lady's brother is involved some how. He has the look of a cold killer. And the over HRT Bodil would just get off on the domination. And as part of a ploy to win over Mr birthday boob job (what a tosser!shock)

Ubik1 Sat 18-Jan-14 23:07:50

I'm definitely thinking it's drug company woman. Definitely.

teejwood Sat 18-Jan-14 23:17:11

The thing with Bodil is that even if she got access to the drugs etc to kill these people she wouldn't have the expertise to administer them, surely?

Which is what makes me think it's Viktoria.

I wonder what mother of 3 means?? 3 tragedies? 3 cells? the trinity normally would be the father, son and holy ghost - she sees herself above god in her ability to give and take life?

AcrylicPlexiglass Sat 18-Jan-14 23:21:02

Was drug company woman's tattoo a toad?

teejwood Sat 18-Jan-14 23:23:59

Oh good point Acrylic - did we see it??
<will need to watch again>

AcrylicPlexiglass Sat 18-Jan-14 23:25:21

Din(t think we saw it but I wondered...

MrsFlorrick Sun 19-Jan-14 00:15:34

Teej. Good point re drugs but Bodil could access via the brother of drug lady. Bodil is mega scheming!! Gets off on everything.

That said, Teej, the drug co lady said she had slept with Cladio was well so perhaps it's her?

Or the brother.

Argh another week to wait.

MrsHoolie Sun 19-Jan-14 00:32:43

I bloody love this show.
Best thing on tv.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Sun 19-Jan-14 00:42:53

That's twice Rasmus has gone off on his own seeking glory I wonder if his luck will hold a 3rd time?

Huge relief about Saga. Did she know about Munchhausen's by Proxy because of her late sister, was she a M by Proxy victim of one of their parents?

I am wondering if Viktoria is a red herring and her DB is actually masterminding the evil plot with the help of Bodil.

Bodil thought she'd get rid of (1) Claudio who might blab in an autobiography and (2) her creepy BIL. Maybe even torment DSis who could be in a heap of trouble.

When Viktoria dies her brother will inherit the lot so am guessing Bodil hopes she will hook up with him.

coldplumporridge Sun 19-Jan-14 10:21:21

Right, I've been forced to rejoin Mumsnet because I have noone in RL to discuss this with (plus I have missed you all)
IMO this whole thing is not about just eco-terrorism. I think there's something to do with testing risky chemo drugs and that sort of thing on volunteers, hence the skellingtons in the boat. I think Viktoria's drugs company may be implicated in all this and the eco activity may be some sort of smoke screen to cover all the activity up. Thoughts?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Sun 19-Jan-14 11:19:15

DH said just that this morning coldplum could it be the whole eco warrior thing is a trick to get people rattled, settle a few personal scores, destabilise certain industries AND get human guinea pigs?

coldplumporridge Sun 19-Jan-14 11:35:59

yep. I think if we are correct we should win the internet. Mind you making predictions in Episode 6 is always fraught with danger. But I do think that the eco warriors were being used by someone whose purpose is not necessarily what they thought it was. I wonder if we've met the person behind it all yet though?

coldplumporridge Sun 19-Jan-14 11:39:11

oh and Claudio I think did work as a gigolo but he's primarily a blackmailer. Or was....

FartAtTheMaddingCrowd Sun 19-Jan-14 13:40:47

Ok having to delurk to share my Grand Theory. I think that drug-lady's brother (Oliver) is behind it all, he's obsessed with her and is removing all obstacles to her getting what she wants before she dies. The Eco-warriors are a red herring the whole point of the poisoning so was to kill 'Boris the Uni lecturer first choice for keynote speaker' I don't know if anyone spotted this but Rasmuss said they couldn't find a golden toad in the meat he was meant to have died from. So his murder was 'hidden' amongst the others to look like a random poisoning.
Drug-lady's brother has also bumped off Claudio so that Bodil is free to do his sister's memoirs and that rival in business person has now been beaten up in the car park. Have I missed anything?
Can I have the prize? grin

coldplumporridge Sun 19-Jan-14 13:44:39

Yes, spotted that. Boris's death was kind of the main point of all the poisonings, and was not carried out by the 4 ecoterrorists but by some shady OTHER.....
They have shelved that for a bit but it annoyed Saga when they could not find a toad amulet so there's no way she'll forget about it.
Is it the brother, yes? He certainly seems to annoy his sister and to be unhealthily obsessed with her. Would he have access to all the poisons and so on???

eddiemairswife Sun 19-Jan-14 14:11:46

I'm so envious of all the people who can follow the plot, know each character's name, read the sub-titles AND mumsnet all at the same time.

coldplumporridge Sun 19-Jan-14 14:12:44

I can't MN at the same time. And I have to watch the episodes twice, then I can follow the plot wink

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Sun 19-Jan-14 14:19:20

I'd forgotten the original keynote speaker supposedly 'coincidentally' ate poisoned meat! Full marks...

wetaugust Sun 19-Jan-14 20:55:56

I stumbled across the forst 4 episodes of The Bridge II on iplayer and watched them all yesterday afternoon. Couldn't take a break - they were gripping.

Yy, suspicious boat man's (nice ascot) first wife is deffo going to turn out to be Someone Significant.

Caroline's Boobjob Bastard husband is a Scandi Martin Clunes.

Every time we saw drug company lady's house I couldn't help but shout 'But where is all the STUFF?!!' at the screen. Very Grand Designs!

lurkingaround Mon 20-Jan-14 00:26:40

Hello all. Have just watched it.
I also wonder about the drug dying woman with the sterile house. As someone up thread said, she has nothing to lose. Don't know why she would do it tho. And I bet the tatto is a toad. And she very clearly dislikes her brother. I wonder when we'll get that story.
Boat guy has to be involved but could he be just a pawn.

Anyway, it's bloody great to have something on telly to watch.

And then the sister having it off with her BIL!! OMG. Horrible woman. There's a lot of threads to keep track of.

And the nut-job nanny!
Poor Jakob's mother. What a fright for her, meeting Saga. That will take some getting used to.

It is such good telly.

mrsjavierbardem Mon 20-Jan-14 11:07:42

I love this series so much, particularly I worship Saga.
I love that Martin contributes nothing at all to the investigation except of a bit of duffing up when necessary, having loads of children available for attack by horror loons, giving that smiley colleague loads of lifts and teasing her to the point of derangement. Watching out for Saga being disrespected by Rubbish Young Detective (who is surely going to be impaled upon a pipe in the harbour with his head blown off for his crimes against the case) And generally meandering into the office and looking at Saga to see what she's worked out against the odds. Oh he also steps in when Saga is being too aggressive with the questioning.
Showing Jens the case is silly but interesting.
Surely the dreary EU keynote speech could be some sort of denouement moment.
Does Martin Clunes a like Bastard Titjob Husband know that his sis in law squeeze put wifey in touch with the CallBoy?
Did Martin get any from his wife or just a bit of spooning? My DH says he got more than a cuddle.

mrsjavierbardem Mon 20-Jan-14 11:10:48

Surely beautiful pouty girls dad must be involved with his filming of the boat going into the bridge in the first place, his weird home security system which is more efficient than the hospitals.
but he wouldn't poison his own daughter would he, if he was who she saw at the stadium?

diddl Mon 20-Jan-14 11:20:52

Have I misheard-or does Martin say "Sayga" & the others "Saga" iyswim?

I know...I'd assumed it was pouty girl's own Dad, and that was why the shots were deliberately misfired so she wouldn't die...but why then the poisoning. Hm.

Viktoria's brother talked about how she had 6 months but 'knowing her, that'll be 18'. Is he/she involved in the drugs thing to try to get some sort of new chemo to help her live longer? Tatoo defo a toad, agree.

Plus there's a mole isn't there? Only boss guy and Jakob knew about Saga being at the hotel. Have thought Pernille and Rasmus were a bit dodge from the start...Rasmus' arc is about being reckless; is Pernille trying to get Martin into her flat for non-nookie reasons? It was boss guy who brought her in...

mrsjavierbardem Mon 20-Jan-14 11:35:32

didi - could that be a Danish/Swedish pronunciation thing?

stinkingbishop Loving your work, fab thought that Pernille might be an ecobastard trying to lure Martin home to lob off his JohnThomas of unknown girth n' length or to put it in a guillotine attached to an iPhone timer and Saga has to stop Capitalism single handedly to save him from the chop and give her the chance of some unaffectionate spooning with the possibility of a shag at the end.

diddl Mon 20-Jan-14 11:39:29

Yes I was thinking that Mrs-but wasn't sure if I'd imagined a different pronunciation.

I think Laura was supposed to be killed-hence the re try in the hospital.

mrsjavierbardem Mon 20-Jan-14 11:41:24
mrsjavierbardem Mon 20-Jan-14 11:43:13

Yeah, didi that must scupper the dad theory.
But still…
If he's a real loon he would sacrifice her as he may plan to blow himself up at the EU summit.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Mon 20-Jan-14 11:46:37

The dad didn't have to offer Saga and Martin the footage of Laura and Julian inside his house so I don't think he's a baddie.

mrsjavierbardem Mon 20-Jan-14 12:01:07

yeah donkey But dead Julian called them in when he saw Marting answering his dead sister's mobile out of the body bag? So it could be double bluff?
He was filming when the ship hit the bridge and saw the getaway boat. He could be involved. Maybe she isn't really his daughter……

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Mon 20-Jan-14 12:03:42

But would he direct the gf to Laura's room if he had set a syringe or whatever it was in the bed to spike his DD? (Strokes chin thoughtfully).

mrsjavierbardem Mon 20-Jan-14 12:08:52

It's a puzzle.
But if we work on the idea that it's the least likely that would leave
Martin as least likely?
Boss who adores Saga and didn't move jobs?
Martin's wife?
Martin's skinny assed Boss with the bun?
Saga's boyfriend's mother?
Martin's twins? Simmy and Mimmy - what were they called bless em?
Awful Nanny?

tobiasfunke Mon 20-Jan-14 17:22:21

I don't trust that Pernille either. I think poor, old, inept Rasmus will save the day at some point.

Tabby1963 Mon 20-Jan-14 18:01:56

I'm loving this series, I was worried that this one could not possibly be as good as the first one; it is, thankfully.

The relationship between Martin and Saga just gets better and better, I love the banter between them. That scene at the morgue with Saga looking under the covers at the gigolo's penis then trying to discuss small penises with Martin, hilarious.

Wondered about nanny when she stopped one of the children taking a glass of juice "no, that's juice". Why do that? Juice is juice.

Tabby1963 Mon 20-Jan-14 18:02:35

* "no, that's xxxx's juice".

diddl Mon 20-Jan-14 18:12:20

Yes-I think that that first put Saga onto her.

Why does she know about Munchausen'sthought it odd that that was pointed out as unusual.

Was the implication that she/other family member was involed in her sister's death?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Mon 20-Jan-14 19:07:12

Quite an age gap between Saga and her sister. Maybe the parent missed having Sags around and tried foisting care on younger sibling, to the point they fabricated symptoms.

diddl Tue 21-Jan-14 06:53:36

Her sister commited suicide didn't she-so no other involvement.

Maybe Saga feels responsible as she thinks she should have noticed her sister was unhappy/unwell?

I'm probably reading too much into Saga being "praised" for spotting the MuchausensBP.

Yes, am assuming Saga's sister killed herself (or DID she?!) following 14 years of being made poorly...'It's easy to spot, WHEN YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR.' I bet Saga read up afterwards (like she's doing with relationships) and kicks herself she didn't see the signs. Perhaps she thinks if she didn't have Asperger's, she would have.

Yep. The juice thing. But in an earlier episode there was that hilarious exchange between her and Saga where she said Martin had said they couldn't live without her, and smirked, and Saga said 'your function, not you as a person'.

Clocked. When Saga asks questions about someone and looks at them quizzically...they is BAD. She's been doing that with Pernille. Mark my words.

Whereas Rasmus...his recklessness will lead to a situation where (despite or because of the ill feeling between them at the moment) Saga will save his life. Or vice versa.

PS and remember Martin's asked for the file on Saga's sister's death...

PPS do we think maybe pouty girl's Dad's some kind of uber spook on the case of some of the main players, hence the surveillance, being there at the right time...was the needle meant for him?

PPPs and in the spirit of Bridge I was just a personal revenge story dressed up as a quest for the the climate change conference going to be a mass assassination of world leaders via the poison? Does Viktoria blame them somehow for having 'caught' cancer?

Right. Need to stop now. THIS IS JUST A TELLY PROGRAMME!!!

hackmum Tue 21-Jan-14 09:21:33

I'd noticed the Sayga/Saga thing!

Great to join this thread at last - I've been a bit behind with the episodes and only caught 5 and 6 last night.

Loving Mrsjavierbardem's summing up of plot and characters so far.

I was surprised at the nanny's Munchausen's thing - I assumed she was part of an overarching evil plot to kill off Martin's children one by one. Surely there has to be some more significance to this.

I also agree that the eco-terrorism is neither here nor there. It's going to be some awful global drug company thing.

wetaugust Tue 21-Jan-14 12:04:23

I've also heard her called So-ga.

Very confused with the Yes = Nay? and lots of Ay for No??

Can't work it out at all.

mrsjavierbardem Tue 21-Jan-14 12:39:43

Now I want to appeal to all of your Rasmus-forgivers to stop seeking his redemption.
You know he doesn't deserve it.
Let him be impaled upon a spike of Hubris of his own making! Let him get what he deserves the dreadful sneaky disrespected of Saga the Great!

mrsjavierbardem Tue 21-Jan-14 12:41:04

saga + sister and munchausen by proxy.

Could be that Saga just knows everything like the Mortician (Hello…!) has obvs realised.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Tue 21-Jan-14 14:07:28

Hello I think is hej (hey), goodbye seems to be hej or even hej hej!
Yes is ja and no is nej.

I still don't know which character I prefer Sarah Lund or Saga. For a while I found her - well, robotic - but thought it sad when Saga commented that people think she's immune to being hurt. She doesn't act the way she does to deliberately piss people off.

lurkingaround Tue 21-Jan-14 19:04:13

Oh I prefer Saga. No question. Sarah is just so serious, nothing else. At least Saga has an unusual personality and is sometimes hilarious.

mrsjavier loving your forthright posts. They make me snort

hackmum Tue 21-Jan-14 19:19:27

Oh, but I love Lund. It's the fact that she's so intelligent but doesn't give a damn about how she looks or what anyone thinks of her.

HRHQueenMe Tue 21-Jan-14 21:35:34

Swedish for Dummies; (hoping someone can do Danish for me)

Lund and Saga both amazing. No way I could choose a favourite.

MrsHoolie Tue 21-Jan-14 23:31:43

How many episodes is this series?

I'm dreading the end already,nothing compares .

AcrylicPlexiglass Tue 21-Jan-14 23:36:43

10 episodes so only 2 weeks to go.sad

gaggiagirl Tue 21-Jan-14 23:40:35

Can't believe I have only just found this thread!

I adore saga. It was hilarious when she was having a solitary fumble with her mil behind her.
Go Saga

MrsHoolie Wed 22-Jan-14 09:37:05

Only four left sad

mrswarbouys Wed 22-Jan-14 12:34:35

I don't much believe that someone like Saga could get to be a detective interviewing witnesses etc being the way she is in the first place... Either she would have learned to be a tad more humanistic or not got to be a Porsche driving free - wheeling detective let loose on the public.

AcrylicPlexiglass Wed 22-Jan-14 12:44:53

She's so bright that she doesn't need social skills, mrswarbouys.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Wed 22-Jan-14 13:08:30

Don't the Danes also use hej and maybe farvel, and tak means thanks but I don't know what please is.

The eyeball to eyeball confrontation with MIL maybe wasn't what Martin meant when he said talk about where she lives, etc.

lurkingaround Wed 22-Jan-14 19:29:39

Yes mrswarbouys. But this is television, of course she could get to detective level. wink

wetaugust Wed 22-Jan-14 20:49:54

They seem to waer quite casual clothes even at relatively senior levels. I haven't seen much evidence of the UK's 'corporate' uniform of blac trousers and jackets.

CurrerBell Wed 22-Jan-14 22:09:11

Joining this late, but glad to have found somewhere to discuss The Bridge!

I am enjoying Series 2 even more than the last one. It's a lot less grisly (so far at least)... I think too many recent crime dramas rely on shocking the viewer with ever more elaborate scenarios of prolonged torture/murder and blood & guts. Series 2 is more about the characters and the intellectual puzzle of whodunnit - and it also has a lot of laugh-out-loud humour which I don't remember from last time.

I do think Saga's Asperger's is being overplayed this series... surely she would have learned some social skills by now?! But I'm glad they are showing some of her vulnerabilities, instead of just portraying her as cold or unfeeling. Despite her difficulties in connecting with people, she shows a lot of intuitive insight (e.g. noticing Pernille chasing Martin, and the nanny etc.) which makes her a great detective. I loved some of the questions she's asked Martin - just so wonderful in her honesty!

Bodil is creepy isn't she...

Tabby1963 Thu 23-Jan-14 07:37:12

CurrerBell, I think that Martin is much more forthcoming about giving Saga advice about how to behave in situations, I don't remember him doing that in the first series. She isn't going to know how to behave unless someone explains it to her.

I think it is her Asperger's that enables her to see things differently, more objectively (e.g. nanny).

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Thu 23-Jan-14 08:04:54

Less grisly CurrerBell but still a high body count. I thought this week, Saga looks so at home when talking to the pathologist and isn't squeamish around corpses but evidently preferred to go into police work, (I know it's tv and pretend) so she herself didn't think her personality would be any less suited to dealing with the public than anyone else's.

Yy definitely more humour this series ("Only 4 inches!" etc).

mrswarbouys Thu 23-Jan-14 08:11:03

So it's television lurkingaround ? Thanks for that. My point is - despite Saga's brilliance and her analytical genius she would not be put on the front line like that to question witnesses etc, where subtlety and human empathy would yield far greater results. I know it's TV but it still has to be believable. I agree with CurrerBell that the writers have made too much of it. Also I don't find the "baddies" particularly intimidating or scary. Why didn't the guy who was looking after his little brother just pull out and go to the police? I mean they're not exactly the IRA are they? Just a bunch of daft students.

lurkingaround Thu 23-Jan-14 10:03:35

Gosh mrswarbouys I didn't mean to offend, I was making a wry comment.

I agree with all you say. Yes, there is no way on earth she would reach that level IRL. And as I said at the beginning of the thread, they have really highlighted her Asperger's in this series, I'm not keen on it either. Despite its flaws I still love this series.

mrsjavierbardem Thu 23-Jan-14 10:48:20

Ahhh, so hard to choose between Lund and Saga.
But for me I admire Lund with passion but I love Saga with something else, not carnal lust but a kind of l

mrsjavierbardem Thu 23-Jan-14 10:53:44

Love, nevertheless.
They are both rounded characters with strengths and weaknesses not your set dressing cartoon cliche chicks we've seen so much of.
I try not to seriously challenge the plot, apart from for comedy discussion. If challenged, the plot collapses pretty quickly.
The comedy is wonderful as is the weird intimacy of work colleagues. I love Martin putting Rasmus in his place.
I think there is going to be series three but will the protagonists survive long enough for some odd coupling?

lurkingaround Thu 23-Jan-14 11:54:17

Oh yes mrsjavier. I agree re the cartoom cliche thing. I tried to watch the USA version of The Killing. DH watched it, I thought it was awful. USA Sarah was so one-dimensional (miserable) I couldn't bear it. I love the roundedness of the original european characters. And yes, there are lots of holes to pick at in the plot, I love it nonetheless and am very happy to overlook them.

guineapiglet Thu 23-Jan-14 12:57:26

We are all big Bridge fans here, lovers of all things Scandi. IS anyone going to the Nordic Noir weekend in London over first weekend in Feb, I am really keen to go, the whole weekend looks fab, and the actress who plays Saga is supposed to be giving a talk, among with novelists, writers etc. IF anyone is going, let me know!

I think Saga is a brilliant character, she is not entirely unempathetic, and is becoming increasingly aware of her lack of tact through Martin's guidance. I think he is gorgeous as well - full of flaws too.

My daughter is writing a piece on strong women heroines in contemporary film/literature, and we have discussed all the strong, scandi, unconventional heroines who have graced our screens over the past few years, - kind of anti heroines as all have flaws and non conventionally 'beautiful' - Lund, Lisbeth Salander, Saga, even the wonderful Birgitte Nyborg had her flaws.. What do the College want her to read and discuss instead? 50 Shades of Grey..................................... (gulp)

guineapig that is officially AWFUL!

Right. I have been thinking about this all far too much. And I have some more questions and observations.

1. Boob implants have now been mentioned twice (Caroline's potential ones, and the one in the boat). There is no such thing as a coincidence in The Bridge. Especially given the growing Big Pharma theme.

2. Claudio's willy being small is, I think, more than just a 'isn't Saga funny' moment. She finds it odd, and it is odd. He ain't no gigolo. He got bumped off immediately after Blondie/brother of/Bodil found out about his memoirs. I think he's some thick stooge/occasional shag involved in the plot who got too big for his boots.

3. Is Saga pregnant? Seems to be more trouser loosening than before. Am tempted to think that is the 'birthday' but presumably the graduation/summit is before then, so that doesn't work...

4. The time it takes to die is uber important, hence the experiments. Either simply to up the dramatic tension so we know Saga/Martin only have x hours to find the victim and administer the antidote OR so that it fits in flawlessly with the summit/Blondie's speech/etc.

5. Where is Laura's mother, hm?

6. Finally, Saga's sister was obviously a victim of Munchausen's...but was that her mother or - horror - Saga?

TWO DAYS to wait. Two days. I may implode...

diddl Thu 23-Jan-14 15:12:42

I wondered if Claudio was a blackmailer?

A thought I had was that Viktoria's brother was trying to find something to save her, but is now killing others as he's so pissed off that she is dying.

tobiasfunke Thu 23-Jan-14 17:55:37

I thought Saga might be pregnant as wel due to the trouser opening.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Thu 23-Jan-14 18:41:04

I hadn't thought of Saga being pregnant. Interesting!

AndTheNutWasGood Thu 23-Jan-14 19:46:11

I've come to this late - have just finished watching season 1 of The Bridge and The Killing and have really enjoyed them.

My Dad has been talking about them for ages but I kept putting off watching them - he's pleased I've finally got round to it!

Taking him to Nordicana next weekend - he's hoping to bump into Wallander!

peggyblackett Fri 24-Jan-14 04:13:40

We are utterly addicted to The Bridge. 1 day to go.

How did Laura have Martin's number in her phone?

peggyblanket Martin gave Laura his card.
Delurking to say how much I am loving this series. Saga is a legend!

I do think there is a bit of a parenting theme going on, so therefore it is entirely appropriate for us to be discussing it on MN smile.

Martin's lost one child, is away from his, one of them gets ill.

The nanny usurping maternal control.

The first eco terrorist being an orphan, parenting his brother.

Stressed out dad, Mother of three, plotting on a parenting forum.

Laura being apparently motherless, over protective Dad.

Saga meeting her MIL, Munchausen issues with her sister, no contact with parents, possibly being pregnant.

Neither Caroline nor Bodil nor Viktoria appear to have children. Merely coincidence or..? Is it on the Bucket List? Was that part of Claudio's role?

mrsjavierbardem Fri 24-Jan-14 09:29:37

OMG Stinkingbish! Your posts are like a horror sudoku written by a cruel trolling script writer to mess with my mind!!!
You scare me with your penetration ( said the actress to the bishop)
BUT nevertheless, I salute your brain.
Also I have to confess an act of supreme idiocy; I went on the youtubes and saw a behind the scenes series 2 factotrailer.....I think I saw something which I can now never unsee and It was, if I am right an appalling spoiler of the plot. But I may be wrong , how can I have been so stupid?
(sound of woman sobbing into a pile of laundry in a non minimalist home).

mrsjavierbardem Fri 24-Jan-14 09:32:10

BTW I will honour this thread and make no illusion to what I have seen. ( sound of woman looking for bottle of vodka in order to go and drink it in a layby)

Not a trolling script writer, no, but I announced to DP last night that I consider it my moral duty to apply to the police services (I was karaoke-detecting to Silent Witness) because I am obviously so SKILLED at it. He passed no comment. He mostly passes no comment...

Am now wondering what you glimpsed. It must have been short, visual, hmm...

mrsjavierbardem Fri 24-Jan-14 09:36:37

Sorry for even mentioning it, I don't want to tinker with the fine balance of your deductions! What I saw wasn't tragic it was just a plot spoiler I should now retire thread. (sound of woman wailing behind doors locked from the inside)

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Fri 24-Jan-14 10:16:35

This morning, having thought a while ago Laura's dad is not a bad guy, it struck me what if the reason she has no memory of the shooter is because she saw it was her dad and the shock was so huge she blanked it?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Fri 24-Jan-14 10:19:49

Was I the only one who thought maybe Jens would spot something else in the copy file Martin let him read in prison? Just a tactic to get him to thaw and think like a normal person and feel the horror of his guilt.

CurrerBell Fri 24-Jan-14 11:43:15

stinkingbishop very interesting - yes, definitely a parenting theme going on. I think Saga might be pregnant too, and wonder if she knows. I can see her knowing, but not thinking to tell Jakob!

Donkeys I am suspicious of Laura's dad too. I got the impression he sent the teacher up to Laura's hospital room deliberately, although I can't think how that makes sense.

Although I think Saga's Asperger's is being over-played at bit by the writers, I do love her character and portrayal - it's wonderful to see such a strong character with AS on screen. Perhaps the writers are over-signposting certain things for a reason... At the end of series 1 Saga's inability to lie was one of the key drivers of the denouement. So I'm guessing that Saga's unique gifts and difficulties are going to play a big role in how things play out.

Pernille is watching Saga a lot and smiling to herself, isn't she...

Pernille, Laura's dad, Bodil, Charlotte's husband, Viktoria, Viktoria's brother - all very suspicious and possibly up to something... but maybe there are further layers of crime before we get to the top?

Incidentally, have we found out what Jakob's job is yet?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Fri 24-Jan-14 12:01:22

I don't know but he might be a SAHD in series III wink

CurrerBell Fri 24-Jan-14 12:26:36

There are many financial institutions that positively discriminate in favour of Aspies. We're very good at spotting the fine, tiny details that others miss. Many financial institutions that have investigatory departments like us, as do police forces the world over. I have known one or two Chief Inspectors with AS.

FayKnights Fri 24-Jan-14 16:44:25

I can't believe I've missed a whole thread on my favourite programme, will go back and read all of it!

Love the Bridge!

So moving when Martin was thanking Saga for saving his son as they stood by the bridge I may have needed to dab my eyes

Re the tattoo. We get a glimpse of it as she sits at the table in a halterneck top. It's the scene at 52.30 mins. on BBC IPlayer. You can only see part of it but I reckon it could be the toad.

mrsjavierbardem Fri 24-Jan-14 17:47:05

She could be pg couldn't she? Respect to all who spotted that except the Rasmus-support club ; I am afraid I can't respect you lot, I am so cross with him for his law breaking and undermining the investigation!

But there was the Nanny saying to Martins kid "oh she doesn't like children" and Saga protested that wasn't the case.

CurrerBell Fri 24-Jan-14 23:46:16

Thank you Sunnymeg - I missed that about Jakob's job. Martin made a point about Saga not being interested enough to ask what he did!

StressedOutDad Sat 25-Jan-14 10:46:21

Interesting, I thought Saga loosened her trousers because they were tight and she wasn't embarrassed about needing to loosen her trousers so she just loosened them as that would be comfortable. But yeh, pregnancy, why not? shock

Yes, she did do it in series 1, but it just seems to be happening quite a lot more we think there's any significance in Jakob being a comic book writer btw? Is Saga his super hero? Big kids?

ImperialBlether Sat 25-Jan-14 16:10:36

I love this thread - I've avoided it up until now because I was a few programmes behind everyone else.

I loved Saga eyeballing her MIL. That poor woman. I'd hate to think of Jacob being a baddie and he did have a nice mum, so he should be OK. <faultless logic there>

Now I'm wondering whether Saga's pregnant - I hadn't thought of it until you lot got me thinking. However, when she loosens her trousers and puts her hand down I always think she's going to start masturbating!

I hadn't thought of Pernille as being a baddie - I just saw her as Martin's option - he could stick with it with his wife and try to make things work or just fuck it all off and start afresh. I think in the past he would've done that - in the first series he said he'd had three wives. I like to think he's learned something since the last series and though he's tempted, he wants his family back.

I think Saga's ASD is really well portrayed. Sometimes she looks so lost because she knows she doesn't understand what's going on. Some people are speaking as though she should have 'improved' by now - it doesn't exactly work like that! I think the reason it's more pronounced now is because of her trauma at the end of the last season, when Martin lost his son.

I love the way Martin laughs when Saga says something in her usual Saga-like way. Sometimes I think they've caught the first shot, where he's genuinely laughing rather than acting. It's lovely to see that he just loves her now, for what she did with his son.

I can't wait for tonight.

AcrylicPlexiglass Sat 25-Jan-14 16:22:03

So glad to have found this thread. I am the only devotee in my house and it's great to be able to read all these comments and relate to them.
I hope Saga isn't pregnant, I imagine her as being contraception savvy and I don't think it would her character. I also like having a female character who isn't necessarily yearning for motherhood but is focused on her work and is fulfilled by that.

I had to pause to deal with pesky DSes bedtime so am on a lag.

Loving tonight's episodes. Rasmus is a shit 'tec. Does he not know that you always call for back up?

Wow. Perv bruv getting an eyeful.

ha lilian reminds me of frasier's lilian

teejwood Sat 25-Jan-14 22:51:13

so it's possible that pervy bruv arranged it all to show his sis he was badass and destroy the father's business because the father had not left it to him?

he could easily infect viktoria before she goes to the summit and get revenge that way. or put all the blame on her to destroy her legacy and then be seen to ride to the rescue?

Torc Sat 25-Jan-14 22:51:52

Oh dear

teejwood Sat 25-Jan-14 22:52:35

oliver's wife suspects him...

Ubik1 Sat 25-Jan-14 22:59:21

perv brother

lurkingaround Sat 25-Jan-14 23:00:05

But what has the security expert guy got to do with him? How does it all tie up?

teejwood Sat 25-Jan-14 23:02:42

The woman whose husband is pretending to be dead - the husband is the the drug company's ex-head of research. He pretended to be dead - I'm guessing in case it ever came out that an illegal clinical trial had been conducted and the patients had all got seriously ill or died.

Oliver's wife is now head of research <convenient>, her lack of knowledge of the clinical trials at that time indicate she was not involved??

mousmous Sat 25-Jan-14 23:03:40

is he covering up for oliver? being blackmailed?

<sigh> only 2 episodes to go, I don't want it to end yet.

teejwood Sat 25-Jan-14 23:03:53

Security expert guy travelled to Thailand, as did the lithuanian guy, and Thailand happens to be where Medisonius' ex head of research lives...

mousmous Sat 25-Jan-14 23:04:59

he prtends to be dead.

security guy went to thailand...

lurkingaround Sat 25-Jan-14 23:05:06

I don't think Oliver's wife is involved. You're probably right about the 2002 illegal trials and the first murders. But how does it all thread together I wonder?

teejwood Sat 25-Jan-14 23:05:45

mous i like your idea that Laura is Viktoria's secret daughter. def something odd there, right from daddy's state of the art home surveillance system.. a bit like the one Oliver has installed in Viktoria's house in fact???

Oh yes. Security guy and Thailand...

teejwood Sat 25-Jan-14 23:06:54

x-post mous

lurking I don't think she necessarily is involved - but has started to think her dh is weird <understatement>

smugmumofboys Sat 25-Jan-14 23:07:08

Caught up. Bloody hell! Fab telly as per.

The 'graduation' is obviously something at the EU summit. I still can't work out whythough.

teejwood Sat 25-Jan-14 23:09:12

oh - another thing that occurred to me while watching - if Oliver wanted to infect his DS with the plague before the EU summit, all he would have to do is tamper with her pain relief pens

It is fab tv.

Indeed teej, she's thinking her DH is not so 'D'.
Can I be the first to tell her?......LTB!!

I wonder what illness his sister has? Could he have caused it? He is truly weird.

teejwood Sat 25-Jan-14 23:14:00

AcrylicPlexiglass Sat 25-Jan-14 23:17:19

if he caused it that would fit in with munchaussens theme?

Cat98 Sat 25-Jan-14 23:17:59

I am not sure Oliver is the main person behind it all. I'm thinking one of the women?

smugmumofboys Sat 25-Jan-14 23:18:03

Poor Jakob. sad

I love Lilian: she always pitches up at key moments, dressed like a stylish art teacher in heels and directs lots of blokes with guns!

I loved the the big reveal of the e-fit at the end.

I don't get the link between the clinical trials and the Golden Toad people.

Cat98 Sat 25-Jan-14 23:18:21

I am not sure Oliver is the main person behind it all. I'm thinking one of the women?

teejwood Sat 25-Jan-14 23:18:49

also - there was a throwaway comment about medisonius having facilities in a number of countries - what if the lithuanian politician's sibling was involved in a test that went wrong and he too is out for revenge? let's face it, if you think the police are about to bust your plot why not play the gay affair card?

also - was the politician in thailand to find the ex head of research to try to get revenge?

teejwood Sat 25-Jan-14 23:20:41

Acrylic you could have something there - that the db infected the sis so he was not sidelined (when the 2 closest women in his life are effectively running what he might see as his birthright)?

AcrylicPlexiglass Sat 25-Jan-14 23:21:04

yy- love Lilian too. Her green jeans and heels are amazeballs.

Verycold Sat 25-Jan-14 23:21:56

Absolutely love this programme, but one thing bugged me tonight - snow/no snow/snow/no snow! What about continuity??

teejwood Sat 25-Jan-14 23:23:08

Cat - the mother of 3 still niggles, making me think it's a woman.

Oh. Just a thought. If Oliver is watching Viktoria so close he may know if Viktoria is planning something and be trying to stop it? Hence he shoots at Laura but does not try to kill her?

teejwood Sat 25-Jan-14 23:31:34

Something that may or may not be relevant - new EU regs came in regarding clinical trials in 2001.
Have now decided i need to be sober before thinking about all of this again...
night all
Tak for your company!

AcrylicPlexiglass Sat 25-Jan-14 23:35:36

Verycold, I was saying exactly the same thing all night! It was a tad annoying.

AcrylicPlexiglass Sun 26-Jan-14 00:23:36

Could Laura be Viktoria and pervbrother's younger sister? Then their mother would be a mother of 3.she could be working through her son and 2nd husband to execute her evil plans. Oliver knows that Laura is his sister so didn't kill her.

hiphipreplacement Sun 26-Jan-14 00:39:41

Why has this disappeared from threads I'm on?!

ImperialBlether Sun 26-Jan-14 00:42:41

I love the fact that all over Britain women are looking at EU directives to try to solve this mystery!

LauraPashley Sun 26-Jan-14 08:05:50

I thought it was more likely that Laura was the granddaughter? I thought her dad looked a little like research man in exile? So Skype lady is mum of 3 to Oliver, Laura's dad and Viktoria??

Cat98 Sun 26-Jan-14 08:14:16

Ooh some good calls on this thread!
Can't wait for next sat grin

AcrylicPlexiglass Sun 26-Jan-14 08:30:06

Didn't Viktoria tell Bodil that she was head of company because Oliver was too weak and useless and the other sister was also not suitable, tho? Otherwise agree that Lawra's horrid dad seems more likely candidate.

Sunnymeg Sun 26-Jan-14 09:52:54

Just have to say what a good actor the man who plays Jakob is. His reaction to Saga's bombshell about the 'problems in the relationship' was very well played and conveyed the shock and sadness very well. Somehow I don't think they are going to find a way to make it work, but I hope they do.

Dawndonnaagain Sun 26-Jan-14 10:32:09

I hope it does. We both have rooms (a study each) into which nobody is allowed, for those very reasons. It's quite common for Aspies in relationships to have a seperate space so they have somewhere to be when their mind is running at super speed.

tobiasfunke Sun 26-Jan-14 11:06:50

Who's been telling the baddie everytime Laura wakes up or remembers something. I don't think it's the Dad is it? He wouldn't want his daughter to be killed because I'm presuming Laura would've ended up on the operating table poisoned like the rest if the car hadn't been intercepted and he knew they tried to kill her before. Therefore if it's not him is it a police person? Also he told her he didn't phone the police which would've been weird if he wanted her just to keep quiet.

There must be some sort of connection with Laura's Dad and the pervbrother as they share the same creepy spy software. Maybe they are in an internet circle where they get their kicks from spying on members of their family in some sort of incest fetish.

I was wondering whether Viktoria was being poisoned as there are a lot of closeups of her taking her morphine shots (which could be tampered with) and the pervbrother is always feeding her. But then wouldn't she have an actual diagnosis of what's wrong.

CurrerBell Sun 26-Jan-14 11:19:16

Ah, poor Jakob! I think Saga loves him in her own way, and is trying to make it work (i.e. 'solving a relationship problem'). But oh dear... hope they can somehow make it work. Agree about the actor playing Jakob.

Saga's disconnect must be a lot to do with her upbringing too, if she was a victim of Munchausen. I guess she doesn't want to make herself vulnerable to trust/love (hence the talk of 'love' just being chemicals in the brain).

It's lovely how she is trusting Martin more and more though, and referring to his advice. Their relationship gets better all the time.

CurrerBell Sun 26-Jan-14 11:32:19

tobiasfunke Interesting! Yes it does look like Laura's dad is suspicious of the police and by not ringing them was trying to protect her - not trying to protect whoever shot her. It would make sense if someone is feeding information. My money's on Pernille!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Sun 26-Jan-14 11:43:10

When you think back to Viktoria getting a trained chef to prepare her a risky dish as part of her 'bucket list' of thrill seeking it makes a deliberate sustained poisoning by her brother all the more shuddersome

Description of Lilian as an art teacher was inspired, smugmumofboys

AcrylicPlexiglass Sun 26-Jan-14 12:14:15

Could Laura be Viktoria and pervbrother's younger sister? Then their mother would be a mother of 3.she could be working through her son and 2nd husband to execute her evil plans. Oliver knows that Laura is his sister so didn't kill her.

lurkingaround Sun 26-Jan-14 12:26:46

Some inspired theories I have to say. I'm loving all the possibilities and while I can't wait to see it solved, I will be sad when the series is over!

Yes, I also think the evolving relationship between Martin and Saga is lovely and very well written and executed.

The more I think about it the more I think perv brother is poisoning his sister. And she would never suspect him because she pretty much thinks he's useless.

AcrylicPlexiglass Sun 26-Jan-14 12:53:29

Sorry have no idea how I posted that again. confused

highlevelbridge Sun 26-Jan-14 17:15:17

Who were the children poisoned in Episode 2? Same symptoms as Snow White. They may have been Thai. They appeared almost subliminally in the resumé before Ep. 8, and so are, presumably relevant to the villains skulking in the east theme.

Torc Sun 26-Jan-14 17:28:44

they died because they ordered tiger prawns, not part of the bigger pciture, just victims.

Aha! Caught up last night. Reckon I have about a 33% strike rate on predictions smile. Weak, you say? I'll show you!

Now doubting myself though. Oliver revealed too soon. Must be a meta baddie.

I bet Security guy installed both Laura's Dad's and Oliver's surveillance/software through Julian's firm.

Still VERY suspicious about Pernille/Hans. Laura keeps getting in trouble every time the Police know she's up and about.

Do we know how Viktoria/Oliver's father died and when? And where is the mother? Where is Laura's mother? Hm.

It's also bugging me the Thai thing. Wasn't there someone else who talked about relaxing on a Thai beach, or am I getting programmes mixed up? And wasn't Stenberg on holiday in Thailand when the boat was 'taken'?

Have we heard the last of Jens?

Did we see how long the last poisoning took, the 2mg one on caravan guy? I bet that'll be how long Saga has to save Viktoria/whoever.

Far more importantly that all this, DM arrives on Sat afternoon for a week. That means she is going to be here for the finale and I don't even have any evenings to catch up. Not only has she not seen any of The Bridge but also SHE TALKS ALL THE WAY THROUGH PROGRAMMES. Would it be really rude to suggest she goes to bed at 9pm?!

PLUS, whenever a minor detail gets screen time it is natch major. So the conversation with the assistant about tap water at the conference. Which is now poisoned...

marzipanned Mon 27-Jan-14 10:38:29

I was wondering whether it hadn't actually been Medisonus who had run the trials...whether some rogue outfit had done it and used the Medisonus name to make them look legit. Could have been a frame.

Also have we heard anything about the hostile takeover since Viktoria's meeting with that bloke in her home several episodes back? Was that relevant to plot or just to show that she's a bit of an evil corporate bitch?

stinking I think you need some massive noise cancelling headphones to plug into the TV.

TorcBasilandLime Mon 27-Jan-14 11:25:09

who is Lilian? I am struggling to remember which character is Lilian.

Martin's female boss, so the Danish equivalent of Hans.

TorcBasilandLime Mon 27-Jan-14 11:41:00

ah right, that only rings a vague bell. She hasn't been in it much has she?

TorcBasilandLime Mon 27-Jan-14 11:42:47

Stinking, sit really near the TV and don't reply to any chit chat in the first five minutes, hopefully that will set the tone for the next hour and 55!! Good luck! I'd die of frustration now if I had company next Saturday!

No. But the art teacher description is most apt!

Ladytron Mon 27-Jan-14 13:13:44

What about the gay hotel scene when Saga gave a longer-than-necessary look at the Security guy's <ahem> manhood. Speaking of which, we are no further along with why Claudio was bumped off.
Karolina's husband's phone hasn't revealed its texts yet either...
Roll on next Saturday!

Ubik1 Mon 27-Jan-14 13:33:16

Was Claudio bumped off by perv brother the sister? Does that mean that Bodil is next on the list?

TorcBasilandLime Mon 27-Jan-14 13:43:15

I thought the hidden phone had revealed its messages. That's how caroline knew that her husband was having an affair with her sister.

highlevelbridge Mon 27-Jan-14 14:15:16

Oliver's glasses and inefficiency stop me taking him seriously. Apparently he was the gunman at the football ground, but failed to kill Laura from a few feet away, and after V&B's bucket list liaison, stomped into Bodil's office and threw a tantrum rather than a poison dart. And has he got a job?

WipsGlitter Mon 27-Jan-14 14:19:27

I think the brother fucked up some trials and the bodies in boat were dumped to cover it up and that's why he wasn't allowed to take over the company.

Agree the water thing is relevant, as possibly was the slightly laboured explanation of munchausens by proxy with Martin's son, so the sister isn't ill at all but he is poisoning her and using the others as trials for how much to give her.

tobiasfunke Mon 27-Jan-14 14:20:25

Oliver is like a late 80's throwback with his black poloneck and funny haircut. Like a speccy Rick Astley.

marzipanned Mon 27-Jan-14 15:29:40

Though Viktoria said that Oliver was too "weak" to run the company so maybe he tried to stop indiscriminate killing of innocent clinical trial participants...

MarshaBrady Mon 27-Jan-14 15:30:24

He is ultra creepy. No eyebrows.

TorcBasilandLime Mon 27-Jan-14 16:54:43

mrsjavierbardem Tue 28-Jan-14 00:11:03

Omg acrylic your theories are going to make my mind implode with their complexity I am out of my league !
stinking you need to give her horlicks at 8 pm and run her a Vast Bath. No one must stop the joy/loss/horror of these last two episodes!!

tobiasfunke Tue 28-Jan-14 09:14:05

Because there are 2 more episodes to go I'm wondering whether Oliver's wife has more to give where all this is concerned as she is the chief scientist. Maybe Oliver will be the next on the operating table. She could be the one poisoning Viktoria.

CurrerBell Tue 28-Jan-14 13:18:42

Ahead of the finale on Saturday I'm rewatching some of the episodes again on iPlayer...

When Julian is being killed, the 'medical test scorecard' says at the top 'PHASE II'. Could the first phase have been nine years ago (Medisonus's clinical trial)? The perp is watching through a glass screen with two monitors/cameras. Saga also finds a window and hidden room behind the lab at Medisonus.

Why the gap of nine years between the first boat sinking, and present events?

Also there are three victims before Julian on the 'Phase 2' scorecard - a man then two women. Who were they? The perp is reducing the dose each time and seeing how long it takes them to die.

Skype woman could be Viktoria and Oliver's mother. Her other child could be Laura's mother, who died as a result of the original clinical trial, or perhaps some other kind of poisoning?

Laura's dad knows/fears something, and is always watching and trying to protect his daughter, right form the start.

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret Tue 28-Jan-14 13:52:27

Joining late, having caught up

bishop can you buy your dm cinema tickets. "Treat" her?

I too adore Lillian and her feather boas

I think Rasmus is not a numpty, but the criminal mastermind <taps nose>

WipsGlitter Tue 28-Jan-14 14:17:29

I think the room Saga was in is the room that the perp is using. And Mikael Host has been accessing it. Good spot re the phase two on the medical scorecard!

Isn't Skype woman the wife of the supposedly dead head of security?

Laura's dad brought the info to the police at the start.

It's so exciting!!!

Yes, Skype woman can't be their mother because a) she has a different surname and b) the company was inherited. So the parents must both be dead/hiding, and she ain't.

Phase II - excellent sleuthing currer. Not the eco students, because their bodies were found. Sternberg's ex wife? Unless she's Viktoria/Bodil/Gertrude/Caroline. Hmmm.

The gap of 9 years ties in with when the previous Head of Research maybe the first phase was official, but then heads had to roll, and the Baddie has unofficially picked up Phase II when they had the ability to do so.

I think it's right that Laura's Dad's surveillance is most probably because he's worried something will happen to her. Hence his over protection at the beginning. OR to him. I still wonder whether he's some sort of uber sleuth, and is monitoring things to do with the conference from a global perspective. 'Global problems, local actions' is the title of Viktoria's speech.

I am sooooooooo depressed about this ending and how I am going to occupy my detection lobe smile.

fussychica Tue 28-Jan-14 18:16:50

And what's more, I have to go out on Saturday night so I can't watch til Sunday! Darned non-existent social life rearing its ugly head at inopportune moments!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Thu 30-Jan-14 10:02:35

Oh missed the pair of them on tv this morning.

teejwood Thu 30-Jan-14 10:23:27

Saga and Martin were lovely - the actress playing Saga is so warm irl. They weren't talking about the plot at all, just about what it is like to make it and work together and how happy they are about the reception in the UK. Also they confirmed that series 3 is in the works.

One of the loveliest bits - the actress who plays Saga said that obviously "Martin" and the director are both danish, and even though she can understand most of what they say, when they speak quickly she gets lost pretty easily - so to her it feels like there is a glass screen between her and Martin/the director as she just can't "get" what they are on about sometimes and in that way she is quite like Saga - slightly on the outside and uncomprehending...

teejwood Thu 30-Jan-14 10:34:09

I so love the theories and MNers on this thread!

Wanted to say before I forget again that guinea I was shocked re your DDs assignment and 50 Shades!

dawn thank you so much for your comments on this thread - it has really helped to give me and I suspect many others a better understanding of where Saga is coming from.

One thing that did occur to me this morning - I assumed that the ex-Head of Research disappeared to Thailand because he had been in charge of a clinical trial that had gone drastically wrong. What if it is the other way round? He found out about an unapproved trial being carried out and knew his life was in danger as he realised the test subjects had been bumped off? So in fact he was running from Medisonus rather than justice? Not sure. And yy to whoever said about boat guy being on holiday in Thailand when his boat was sunk.

Also - wrt the water supply to the conference - was that now in danger because the water supply had been polluted by the chemical plant explosion?

CurrerBell Thu 30-Jan-14 11:00:23

Ooh, interesting angle teejwood, re the ex-Head of Research!

Thailand was also mentioned by the father of one of the boat victims (I think). He said he had hoped all these years his son was just sitting on a beach in Thailand.

I was just thinking about the comment that Viktoria 'practically inherited' the company. Why 'practically'? Does this suggest that her father isn't dead?

It was interesting how Viktoria took charge in the police station and lectured Saga about using more precise language! A contrast to when Saga interviewed Gertrude and harangued her for being evasive.

On re-watching, I noticed how jumpy Gertrude is around Viktoria... Is Gertrude the one who's poisoning Viktoria?

mrsjavierbardem Thu 30-Jan-14 13:32:20

this is the Breakfast clip

OMG the body language between them is utterly fascinating to me - as if they genuinely love each other but it didn't seem sexual, just powerfully affectionate.
They were physically so close and the eye contact was so striking.
She is exquisitely beautiful and he is like a massive lovely bear.
I love them both!
I thought the interviewers were a bit lame particularly chocolate legged bird, yuck, I don't watch Strictly love.

lurkingaround Thu 30-Jan-14 14:36:55

Interesting about the Medisonus ex-boss in thailand teej. It is v dodgy, faking a death and living in Thailand <stating the obvious>, I feel it's more he did wrong, than was wronged, IYKWIM.

Viktoria is quite an aggressive personality. I wonder is she made that way or did something happen to her, maybe within the family.

Will look at TV clip later, still at work, sshh.

tobiasfunke Thu 30-Jan-14 15:57:58

Charlie Brooker's weekly wipe did a funny summary of The Bridge this week

It's 5.30 mins in. It's v funny.

I also have visitors this weekend so won't see it until next week. Bastards.

This is getting ridiculous. Why do so many of us have visitors? Do they not understand? More importantly, did we not think ahead? Saga would not have let this happen.

Who's for rounding them all up and installing them in some sort of monitored soft play area, a la New Years Eve? Am sure they'll have fun. And therefore not TALK ALL THE WAY THROUGH ABOUT NEXT DOOR'S 3 LEGGED CAT AND THE WEATHER ON THE DRIVE DOWN AND DOES SHE EVER CHANGE HER TROUSERS AND I MET A NICE LADY FROM SWEDEN ONCE AND ISN'T SHE A BIT FUNNY, REMINDS ME OF YOUR UNCLE IAN...

I am already stressed!

mrsjavierbardem Fri 31-Jan-14 12:01:44

My m now has cancelled owing to landslides and iffy trains.

Please Stinkingbish respond to my hysteria about Martin n Saga's Body Language! My dh says "he wants to shag her" I said no no, it didn't seem so carnal to me, more sibling like. But I may be wrong!

mousmous Fri 31-Jan-14 12:10:39

can you make up a fake weather report with road closures so that she can't come?

the shit weather might even play into your hands.

mousmous Fri 31-Jan-14 12:13:57

I will chase the dc round the park, no matter the weather so that they are properly tired at bedtime.
andi will make an attempt at 'kanelbüllar' (cinnamon swirls to you and me) to celebrate in keeping with the skandi scheme.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Fri 31-Jan-14 13:08:39

Saw the breakfast show interview, they obviously get on well. If he were a scene stealing egotistical person he could easily diminish her role, especially since he and the director were both Danish and she felt a bit at sea initially.

mrsjavierbardem Fri 31-Jan-14 13:23:49

He really admires her. She is what makes him great and vice versa, it's a lovely double act on and off screen. I totally love them

mrsjavier I think he adores and is in awe of her, but as a precocious and precious little sister, whom no one else understands or appreciates. He'd adopt her if he could. I think that's why he shuts her down every time she talks about willies - just too ick!

TheDoctrineOfSnatch Fri 31-Jan-14 13:38:49

I'd shut down a work colleague who talked about willies, especially one who had slept with my son!

themessyapron Fri 31-Jan-14 13:40:04

Suzanne and that bloke were shit interviewers weren't they? I don't watch them usually so it could be that they're always like that, but Suzanne seemed almost rude!

Saga was sooooo different! Almost couldn't believe it was the same woman.

mrsjavierbardem Fri 31-Jan-14 14:29:34

They didn't realise that they were not worthy to shambolically lob poor 'closed' questions at them! They should have knelt and scattered petals at saga/wosshername's pretty boots!

I can't bear the way Susannah sort of lounges awkwardly about really badly dressed, too much fake tanned leg at that time of day and sort of gurning sloppily at the camera yuck, sitting next to Saga made her look like a turd with a bit of glitter on it!
Gratuitous misogyny: yes! But I can't bear that breakfast Harpy!

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret Fri 31-Jan-14 15:59:28

My mum is staying and has offered to babysit "so I can watch The Bridge without margaret interrupting."

Torn between unprecedented chance of night out versus agony of having to wait until at least Tuesday to catch up (can't Sun or Mon)

mrsjavierbardem Fri 31-Jan-14 21:31:50

Radio 4 tonight 'Saga and Martin' were interviewed by on Front Row after 7.15, should be on the inlayer.
The questions were so much better and my dd talked all over so I will have to listen again.
'Martin' sounds like a lovely loon!

mrsjavierbardem Fri 31-Jan-14 21:32:08

mrsjavierbardem Fri 31-Jan-14 21:50:09

Interview with Kim Bodnia in the Guardian here

themessyapron Sat 01-Feb-14 12:14:54

Been told not to read that interview as apparently it contains something that's a bit too close to a spoiler...

diddl Sat 01-Feb-14 12:44:15

I'm going to have to have "skumfidus(er)" whilst watching tonight!!

ouryve Sat 01-Feb-14 16:45:34

I shall have to check out all these interviews tomorrow, after I've seen the finale.

Have my "free" M&S wine all ready for refreshments.

Allice Sat 01-Feb-14 17:08:49

I am so excited about the finale, but will really miss it. Roll on number 3!

LaVolcan Sat 01-Feb-14 18:32:58

Danish pastries and Carlsberg at the ready here!

merlincat Sat 01-Feb-14 19:03:18

Idea from Dd2; could Martin be poisoning Jens? It would be a 'shameful' act (to quote the Guardian interview ) and certainly not an action that Saga would approve of.

If this has all been suggested before I shall slink off in an embarrassed fashion.

ImperialBlether Sat 01-Feb-14 19:45:58

Ooooooooooooooh hadn't thought of Martin poisoning Jens! Last week he really wasn't well, was he? And Jens - well, I thought he would commit suicide, but maybe if he's being poisoned he knows he is and feels it's a just punishment? Every time he visits he brings him food and drink, doesn't he?

On the other hand, would Saga judge too much?

I wonder whether something will come up about Saga's sister - Martin read the records, didn't he? Will there be more there than has already happened - she's twigged he knows about her mother and Munchausen's, hasn't she?

ImperialBlether Sat 01-Feb-14 19:48:23

By the way, has anyone thought Saga would be great at being a Weight Watchers leader?

"So, you know you are overweight? You know you eat too much chocolate? You know chocolate is high in calories?" Zooms in so her eyes are an inch away from your own. "Why do you do it? Why? Why?"

lilibet Sat 01-Feb-14 19:54:07

I've made sweet potato gumbo and cornbread but now i can't help thinking it should be soused herring

I'm actually a bit nervous confused

merlincat Sat 01-Feb-14 19:54:09

I reckon that Saga would be appalled; she has a fine moral compass that girl.

ImperialBlether Sat 01-Feb-14 20:13:30

True, she has. I love her and will really miss this series.

LemongrassGinger Sat 01-Feb-14 20:25:51

getting the children out of my way, making the lighting moody, can of gordon's in the freezer for 10 minutes :D nearly ready

LemongrassGinger Sat 01-Feb-14 20:31:52

What is skumfidus? On a clip somebody linked to on another thread, Kim Bodnia didn't know what it was either!

LemongrassGinger Sat 01-Feb-14 20:35:24

Yes, Susannah Reid was bordering on rude. I know that Sofia's "spread your legs" comment was potentially a little problematic to respond to, but a better interviewer wouldn't have protected their own ass at the expense of leaving the interviewee feeling awkward!! which is what SR chose to do!1 she could have laughed loud and said "i'm so victorian, i'm blushing, but martin, she's right, budge up there!".

CurrerBell Sat 01-Feb-14 21:00:29

I think skumfidus is marshmallow?

Ooh, it's almost time!

LemongrassGinger Sat 01-Feb-14 21:05:20

tusind tak!

mousmous Sat 01-Feb-14 22:00:56

sitting on edge.
so what's the bet?
laura's father?
viktoria didn't have the abortion they talked about, did she?

smugmumofboys Sat 01-Feb-14 22:02:18

I've just remembered to breathe again.

Yep, I guess Laura's dad is involved. He has some pretty heavy-duty home security.

coffeeinbed Sat 01-Feb-14 22:11:17

It's the wife of Oliver.
I know it!
<<wildly guesses>>

smugmumofboys Sat 01-Feb-14 22:25:35

shock shock Looks like you're right.

LemongrassGinger Sat 01-Feb-14 22:45:49

so oliver was bonkers and gertrude was the real baddy?
oliver just got rid of bodies? he didn't kill them, is that right?

LemongrassGinger Sat 01-Feb-14 22:46:23

but hang on, oliver shot laura

coffeeinbed Sat 01-Feb-14 22:47:40

LemongrassGinger Sat 01-Feb-14 22:51:57

oh dear................ marten wouldn't give jens the plague would he ? that'd have infected prison guards and it would spread.

LemongrassGinger Sat 01-Feb-14 22:57:04

oh Saga!? really????

mousmous Sat 01-Feb-14 22:59:10

so, who isn't in need of gertrud aymore? laura's dad? will be revealed in bridge3?
shock at the end?

JiltedJohnsJulie Sat 01-Feb-14 22:59:50

R a moment I really thought Saga was going to keep quiet.

mousmous Sat 01-Feb-14 23:00:00

na, not the plague, just the polytoxin(sp?)

smugmumofboys Sat 01-Feb-14 23:01:10

Good grief! Poor Pernille.

That was absolutely brilliant. I shrieked when Viktoria sprayed Pernille with her blood. So, so good.

I thought it sounded younger than Laura's dad. Could it have been Marcus?

HettiePetal Sat 01-Feb-14 23:01:17

Fuck sad

There is a series 3, right?

LemongrassGinger Sat 01-Feb-14 23:01:34

oh right.

yeh, kind of disappointed in saga there. Could she not have just sat on that....... could hans not have sat on the info shock

coffeeinbed Sat 01-Feb-14 23:02:03

It's Rasmus.
I know it.
<<guesses again>>

canutesauntie Sat 01-Feb-14 23:02:35

I have just literally bitten a nail - bugger
Bridge 3 without Martin?shock

LemongrassGinger Sat 01-Feb-14 23:02:51

yes the silouhuette character seemed younger than Laura's dad.

HettiePetal Sat 01-Feb-14 23:03:11

Erm.....I'm shit at predictions, but might it be Jens? The body hasn't been properly examined yet.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Sat 01-Feb-14 23:03:21

I know it's just pretend but wow.

JiltedJohnsJulie Sat 01-Feb-14 23:04:15

Now what you mean about shrieking. Think I've only just started to breathe again. Have been abstaining but think I need a drink after tonight.

The new series next week needs to be good. The Bridge is a tough aft to follow.

Cooroo Sat 01-Feb-14 23:05:08

That was so sad! Pernille was heartbreaking. And Martin. What was the crime Saga committed? Couldn't they have kept each other's secret?

I was dreading a soppy ending with Saga and Martin, but this was something else. Excellent!

ouryve Sat 01-Feb-14 23:05:54

It's done it again, just like season 1. I'm going to be numb all weekend.

I don't see how Saga could have done anything else. She couldn't have sat on that sort of information. It would completely go against the grain for her.

smugmumofboys Sat 01-Feb-14 23:07:48

Kim Bodnia said on bbc breakfast that he will be in series 3. Maybe from the inside of a prison cell?

Fiveleaves Sat 01-Feb-14 23:14:50

Was distracted a vital point. Did martin admit to poisoning jens to saga?

smugmumofboys Sat 01-Feb-14 23:16:54

Not in so many words. He said, 'Are you sure I did it?' and she something like, 'Of course I am.'

Like most of their interactions, what wasn't said was brilliantly done.

LaVolcan Sat 01-Feb-14 23:16:58

He sort of admitted it.

Fiveleaves Sat 01-Feb-14 23:18:59

Ah thanks.

Vagndidit Sat 01-Feb-14 23:19:38

Nyyeeeeee! Not Martin!! (Although I agree there's no way Saga could have kept that a secret)

Will sulk away to my happy place where Martin and Sarah Lund can keep each other company in prison...

Yy to Rasmus!

mrsjavierbardem Sat 01-Feb-14 23:22:26

That was brilliant!
Pernille was stunning, the way it dawned on her as it dawned on us in a kind of real time : brilliant & awesome!
Saga shopping Martin! Unexpected! Shocker! They could ff til his release date, there is no fixed time there, leather trousers forever a la mode, vintage Porches etc.
Still don't understand what Oliver and Gertrude were responsible for respectively, did she kill Julian? Or mystery third Man. I cant believe they've left us hanging....

lovingmatleave Sat 01-Feb-14 23:23:06

Phewww. Brilliant. Lost it a bit last week with too many twists and turns but it definitely pulled it back on the last two. Poor Pernille. Saga - I really thought she was going to give him the cups to destroy. What an ending!!!!

wetaugust Sat 01-Feb-14 23:23:20

YY here too to Rasmus or possibly the boat-owning man.

Baaaaad ending. Saga committed a crime but didn't turn herself in. Martin commits a crime and she turns him in. Saga can keep a secret as she is keeping her own offence secret from the authorities. Doesn't add up to me.

P.S. I'm glas Martin killed Jens grin

Cooroo Sat 01-Feb-14 23:23:53

How come Gertrude wasn't arrested for killing her husband? Ok she'd probably have got off but wouldn't she have to face a trial?

wetaugust Sat 01-Feb-14 23:26:15

No - they watched the film and could see it was a self-defence killing. You don't have to stand trial in those circumstances. In this country the CPS could decide there is no grounds for prosecution.

HettiePetal Sat 01-Feb-14 23:26:58

She was probably bailed, Coo as it was such a clear case of self-defence (or defence of another).

Cindy34 Sat 01-Feb-14 23:29:37

Maybe there will be a lack of evidence against Martin (cup goes missing, body quickly cremated before analysis can be done). You never know, there may be a way of having a season 3 with him in it.

mrsjavierbardem Sat 01-Feb-14 23:32:47

But he will lose his police contract presumably whatever happens?
Such a look he gave her from the back of the car!

2014ThisIsMyYear Sat 01-Feb-14 23:35:04

Gripping from start to finish tonight. Thank goodness we were able to watch Episode 10 straight after Episode 9!

Re Saga's crime - maybe after such a long period of time she couldn't be tried for it anyway? <clutches at straws>

The silhouette man was tall, so ... Marcus Stenberg? Alexander?? Not Rasmus though.

Cindy34 Sat 01-Feb-14 23:35:28
mousmous Sat 01-Feb-14 23:38:00

so, will series 3 catch up where this one ended?
with mystery man?
like the idea of sarah lund and martin solving crimes from the prison cantine (do they have mixed prisons in denmark?).

Inertia Sat 01-Feb-14 23:38:05

Ok, I have only seen the last few episodes and missed a chunk of today's , but could the shadowy figure be Rasmus , with all the apparent ineptitude being sabotage ? Did he ever reappear at the end ?

Allice Sat 01-Feb-14 23:39:49

Oh my goodness! That ending was amazing. Poor Pernille, first time she ever left the police station.

The author is doing a q and a now on the bbc website.
Says there will be a series 3 but not transmitted in Denmark/Sweden until sept 2016!!!

Inertia Sat 01-Feb-14 23:39:59

Oops, missed a refresh there so it's already been suggested !

SoulJacker Sat 01-Feb-14 23:41:10

Why isn't the last episode available on iplayer yet??!!

Allice Sat 01-Feb-14 23:41:21

Author has just said on podcast that they've not decided who the person who shot Gertrud is and it may be revisited in series 3 or never mentioned again.

I thought Rasmus but he did seem quite thick, not sure he's pull it off!

Cindy34 Sat 01-Feb-14 23:43:10

Hans the writer has said we do not know who the master mind is.

So I guess they used an actor already in the cast but deliberately kept it vague, so if in a later series they decide to keep going with that aspect they can cast someone suitable.

coffeeinbed Sat 01-Feb-14 23:43:54

What does he know.
