Thread four here we go! Link to the last thread here.

So, Natalie's through to next week and we'll see who's going to be joining her in the Tower Ballroom smile So much nicer than Wembley.

OodaresingingoftheDoctorDonna Sun 10-Nov-13 19:15:04

Going to try joining from the start this time but apologies in advance if I don't keep up.

thistlelicker Sun 10-Nov-13 19:20:05

Fiderer Sun 10-Nov-13 19:22:53

That's blue's very bright

AndiMac Sun 10-Nov-13 19:23:08

Ooh, I love this song. Especially the Benny Goodman version.

thistlelicker Sun 10-Nov-13 19:23:52

Why isn't olA and James dancing here

Fiderer Sun 10-Nov-13 19:24:15

Like the boys in blue uniforms though
<fans self>

AndiMac Sun 10-Nov-13 19:25:13

I honestly thought Claudia had a baby bump when she came out in that dress.

thistlelicker Sun 10-Nov-13 19:25:36

Claudia looking frumpy :-/

JaneEyresHeir Sun 10-Nov-13 19:27:26

That's exactly what I thought AndiMac!

Think someone said James had hurt his back thistle

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 19:27:50

Claudia's dress - looks like a sackgrin. Tess looks good.

ilovesooty Sun 10-Nov-13 19:29:51

Awful top Tess

AndiMac Sun 10-Nov-13 19:30:44

I quite like it on her actually.

thistlelicker Sun 10-Nov-13 19:30:52

Tess top makes her top heavy heavy lookinghmm

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 10-Nov-13 19:31:45

Anton is more than twice Aljaž's age!

thistlelicker Sun 10-Nov-13 19:31:48

Make that top half heavy looking

elcranko Sun 10-Nov-13 19:32:01

I thought Claudia looked like she had a bump too. I think Tess looks lovely tonight.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 10-Nov-13 19:32:03

They'll get rid of him tonight, won't they?

JaneEyresHeir Sun 10-Nov-13 19:32:05

Tests dos look good tonight. Claudia often wears things that just don't suit her - when she was on ITT she had some weird outfits. Yet she can look fabulous - that green & navy dress she wore a few weeks ago was great!

ilovesooty Sun 10-Nov-13 19:32:07

Dave and Karen

elcranko Sun 10-Nov-13 19:32:30

Hooray - Dave finally in dance off!! grin

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 19:32:42

Dave in the dance off - at last!.

Crazy4U Sun 10-Nov-13 19:32:51

Bye bye Dave

DaveBussell Sun 10-Nov-13 19:33:19

Whoever's up against Dave must be thinking 'Yay!!'

Maryz Sun 10-Nov-13 19:33:22

I liked that pro dance.

So, Dave to go then - they will never take a risk and let him go through, his supporters would be back in force next week and they'd never be rid of him.

ilovesooty Sun 10-Nov-13 19:33:22

I think he'll be out no matter who the other couple are unless the other couple fall.

MrsBramleyApple Sun 10-Nov-13 19:33:52

Mum is very happy that Dave is in the dance-off!! I missed the show last night as I was travelling home from Discover Dogs!!

JaneEyresHeir Sun 10-Nov-13 19:33:56

Susanna's dress is FAB U LUSS!

Maryz Sun 10-Nov-13 19:34:23

Claudia always wears a sack t-shirt dress.

I mean, she can carry it off, she always looks great, but she never really looks Strictly-y, does she?

elcranko Sun 10-Nov-13 19:35:36

Agree, Susanna's dress is fab. She's slightly too tangoed but still looks lovely.

elcranko Sun 10-Nov-13 19:36:20

I know, I wish Claudia would glam up a bit more.

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 19:36:47

I think Claudia likes to dress to compliment her quirky personality smile

JaneEyresHeir Sun 10-Nov-13 19:38:26

I love her shoes - she still looks tiny beside Tess though. And I think she's 5' 5"", so not that small!

RedPencils Sun 10-Nov-13 19:39:02

Marking my place. Already know who's going, inadvertently read the spoiler on dS. [grrr]

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 19:39:36

complement grrr

ProphetOfDoom Sun 10-Nov-13 19:39:48

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Bye bye Dave, the rest of the couples waiting to hear must have been so relieved knowing whoever is in the dance off with him is pretty much certain to get through.

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 19:41:31

Between Fiona and Mark now?

Maryz Sun 10-Nov-13 19:42:03

Yay, Ben through [saddo]

Badvoc Sun 10-Nov-13 19:42:19

Maryz Sun 10-Nov-13 19:42:21

I don't care about Mark or Fiona.

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 19:42:28

The battle of the ????

elcranko Sun 10-Nov-13 19:43:13

The right two couples are in the dance off IMO. Dave will definitely go.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 10-Nov-13 19:43:16

I think Craig's made his mind up then... grin

Fiderer Sun 10-Nov-13 19:43:32

Schmaltzing I wondered that too. Hope Craig talks about her AT on ITT.

Maryz Sun 10-Nov-13 19:43:47

Mark has a lucky escape imo.

Against anyone else he would have gone as his rumba? this week wasn't his best.

thistlelicker Sun 10-Nov-13 19:44:36

Happy for either to go tonight but I think Bye Dave

elcranko Sun 10-Nov-13 19:45:23

I do like Dave but he's the worst dancer by far. I don't really like Karen though so I'm glad she'll be out of the competition.

HellesBellesThinksSometimes Sun 10-Nov-13 19:45:38

Definitely the right bottom two.

MrsBramleyApple Sun 10-Nov-13 19:45:43

Very happy that Ben is through................. I have had to hear Forever Young twice this weekend which is heatbreaking as it makes me think of DS1....................... sad

JaneEyresHeir Sun 10-Nov-13 19:46:50

I agree Maryz - the rumba was Mark's worst dance to date, but I can't see the judges saving Dave somehow.

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 19:47:51

The judges might decide to keep Dave for the viewers entertainment value?

AndiMac Sun 10-Nov-13 19:48:51

No way. The judges take their work too seriously to keep someone for laughs.

thistlelicker Sun 10-Nov-13 19:49:12

Karen n Kristina really get on my boobies with sheer arrogance

elcranko Sun 10-Nov-13 19:49:18

The CIN strictly special looks great! smile

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 10-Nov-13 19:49:37

Karen's hair looks really weird, like it's all been shaved off on that side confused

SoupDragon Sun 10-Nov-13 19:49:54

I like Dave. He knows he isn't good but he is enjoying every moment.

Jux Sun 10-Nov-13 19:50:13

THAT was the Tenors? Of whom I have heard good things????

Ugly badly produced voices. Out of tune. Oh they were dreadful.

HellesBellesThinksSometimes Sun 10-Nov-13 19:50:51

Digerd I cannit imagine that - it's not BGT!

My internet connecyion has bottomed out so no live streaming angry I'm relying on this thread now to keepme informed. flowers in anticipation smile

JaneEyresHeir Sun 10-Nov-13 19:51:57

MrsBramleyApple thanks

DameEdnasBridesmaid Sun 10-Nov-13 19:52:07

He enjoyed that

thistlelicker Sun 10-Nov-13 19:52:48

Could u imagine wearing that onsie n need to go for a wee!!!

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 19:52:57

I quite enjoyed Dave's dance for the first timeconfused

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 10-Nov-13 19:53:18

Why was Karen standing with her feet turned out all the time confused It was a tango... well I suppose that's debatable actually grin

elcranko Sun 10-Nov-13 19:53:47

I feel really mean saying it but Mark's rumba is really making me cringe, even more so than it did last night confused

Maryz Sun 10-Nov-13 19:54:34

I just don't like the Rumba (?Rhumba).

Even without an awkward man and a gold jumpsuit, it just isn't attractive imo.

I like them both but quite honestly they could both go.

Badgerwife Sun 10-Nov-13 19:55:39

I find myself praying for dave to be out

CrazyOldCatLady Sun 10-Nov-13 19:56:03

At last.

Jaysus, I'm shocked at Len.

JaneEyresHeir Sun 10-Nov-13 19:56:17

I enjoyed James and Artem's rumba that someone very kindly linked to on the previous thread grin

CrazyOldCatLady Sun 10-Nov-13 19:56:20

It'll have to be Mark next week.

elcranko Sun 10-Nov-13 19:57:03

Crazy, I think Mark should go next week too.

Badgerwife Sun 10-Nov-13 19:57:14

LEN!!!!! shock nutter

MrsBramleyApple Sun 10-Nov-13 19:57:18

Stop fibbing Tess we are not sorry to see you go!!!!

SoupDragon Sun 10-Nov-13 19:57:29

I think Len had a point. Dave was worse tonight.

elcranko Sun 10-Nov-13 19:57:34

What did Len say?? I missed it!!

Len is right, there were an awful lot of mistakes in Mark's routine which just goes to show that they don't always choose the better of the two purely based on the dance off.

JaneEyresHeir Sun 10-Nov-13 19:57:48

I really like Dave.

Just couldn't bear to watch him 'dance'!

RedPencils Sun 10-Nov-13 19:57:57

Oooh Controversial Len.

Any word of Natalie?

SoupDragon Sun 10-Nov-13 19:58:01

Mark was worse!
Dave was better.

Minimammoth Sun 10-Nov-13 19:58:49

Marking place and looking forward to Blackpool

Maryz Sun 10-Nov-13 19:58:54

I wonder is Dave maybe happy to go?

I think he has milked all the comedy he can, and it's only going to get harder. Mark seems to have genuinely enjoyed learning to dance; Dave less so, perhaps.

CrazyOldCatLady Sun 10-Nov-13 19:58:58

Yes, I've just sniggered my way through the James and Artem rumba too. Brilliant : )

Badgerwife Sun 10-Nov-13 19:59:53

Come on, Mark was not very good but still better than Dave. He was better than Dave every single week! And he'll be out next week anyway

DameEdnasBridesmaid Sun 10-Nov-13 20:00:05

It was right that Dave went but Mark made me cringe this week.

CrazyOldCatLady Sun 10-Nov-13 20:00:15

I don't find Dave funny at all. It's obviously scripted to be that way but it just doesn't work because he actually thinks he deserves to be there.

Natalie is under orders to rest apparently.

Anyone else notice that everyone seemed to be commiserating with Dave but only Kevin was standing with Karen.......

womma Sun 10-Nov-13 20:02:04

Oh thank god Dave's finally out!

Yes Mark is overall a better dancer than Dave, but in that dance off Dave actually danced better than the first time, and Mark was worse second time around.

Fiderer Sun 10-Nov-13 20:02:59

Are they a couple, Kevin and Karen? All very intense there.

JaneEyresHeir Sun 10-Nov-13 20:03:03

BBC website says Natalie is to see a doctor tomorrow to determine whether she'll be fit to dance next week. Hope she's okay.

AmIthatHot Sun 10-Nov-13 20:03:17

Marking my spot. I check the DS spoiler on Saturday night, but I wasn't expecting this result. I thought Dave was the one saved. I must have picked it up wrong. Happy that he's gone though. The tartan onslaught was awful, as was the WonderfulSingersDaveArchandhisOrchestra dreadful imitation of the Proclaimers.

Kevin and Karen are engaged.

thistlelicker Sun 10-Nov-13 20:03:30

From Venezuela to grimsby ...... Nice

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 10-Nov-13 20:04:22

They've never promised it's just on the dance off, have they? I think it was probably the right bottom two. If just on the DDO (dreaded dance off) then maybe Mark should have gone, but looking overall I think it was right to get rid of Dave.

AndiMac Sun 10-Nov-13 20:04:26

Frankel, Kevin is Karen's partner, so makes sense he was the first to commiserate with her. Couldn't see what happened after the throng formed around Dave and Karen.

HellesBellesThinksSometimes Sun 10-Nov-13 20:04:27

I agreed with Len - on the one and only occasion that Dave danced better than Mark (dreadful routine in Mark's case) he got voted off.

I never got the impression that dave was anything other than "chuffed" to be there. I think, sadly, older and/or larger contestants are pushed into being novelties because they have no chance of staying in otherwise. If Mark was slimmer, I am certain he would be awarfed higher marks - not this week, obviously.

Iveta needs to keep her leg down. It's getting a bit tedious.

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 20:04:34

Looking forward to seeing Natalie's Argentine Tango- think she'll be good at that < as she has been in all her dances so far>.
At least none of the good dancers was in the bottom 2 this week.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 10-Nov-13 20:05:53

Fid, they got engaged after one of their Burn the Floor shows link.

AndiMac Sun 10-Nov-13 20:06:05

Aha, I didn't know they were engaged! That explains why I lip-read him say, "You know I love you" when he hugged her.

EmeraldJeanie Sun 10-Nov-13 20:07:55

I like Mark but believe on this dance Dave should have been saved.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 10-Nov-13 20:08:28

I don't know if Kevin and Karen used to dance together in Burn the Floor (probably) but they were never a competitive couple. Weirdly (just seen on Google) he used to be married to somebody else he was in Burn the Floor with.

I'm not sure how many of these actually were 'proper' competitive couples? James and Ola, Pasha and Anya, but I don't know about the rest.

Ooh I so want Karens dress! I do lots of Scottish dancing. In lucking formal balls etc. wonder what size she is.....

JaneEyresHeir Sun 10-Nov-13 20:09:50

Polka I vote for you to take over from Brucie as Strictly host grin

wetaugust Sun 10-Nov-13 20:10:33

I'm with Len. Dave actually danced. I know the Rumba is all posturing but Mark didn't even do that well.

Disclaimer - I'm not a Dave fan at all. They should both have been out.

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 20:11:45

I have wanted Dave out since the first week, but his dance tonight was the best he has ever done and Mark's the worst.
Mark will go next week.
Wonder what dances they are doing?

Fiderer Sun 10-Nov-13 20:12:47

Thanks Polka. Must say I felt more sorry for Kevin than Karen there!
What are your thoughts on Sophie's AT?
And any other dancy bods - Frankel?

ilovesooty Sun 10-Nov-13 20:12:57

Mark will have a ballroom next week I imagine. I hope to be honest he won't have to do the jive.

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 20:17:37

Found a video on You Tube of * Artem's Audition"(with wife Giselle) in 1991. Nigel Lithgoe was the judge.
Can't do links, sorry.

HellesBellesThinksSometimes Sun 10-Nov-13 20:19:06

I had high hopes for SEB's AT - that sort of detached quality could have worked in her favour given the subtext of the dance.

ProphetOfDoom Sun 10-Nov-13 20:20:05

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

JaneEyresHeir Sun 10-Nov-13 20:26:54

digerd I've just watched it! I know he looked young, but it can't have been 1991 - he was born in 1982 grin

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 20:27:51

Apparently it was in 2004(?) but the video says EMWDance 1991.
He looks so young and not so muscly.

wetaugust Sun 10-Nov-13 20:29:46

I saw that video of Artem and his (then) wife auditioning a year or so ago. It's actually very sad when you know what later happens to the couple.

Karen just doesn't look right to me - she has a very low forehead and it looks as though the top of her head is missing.

It'll be Mark v Fiona next week.

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 20:30:20

I have no idea how old Artem is and I am getting a bit senile nowgrin

JaneEyresHeir Sun 10-Nov-13 20:31:19

I know, I was jus' teasing....
His hair looked darker - and Giselle reminded me of Lilia Kopylova.

mrsjay Sun 10-Nov-13 20:35:44

hello new threaders smile I was going to coment on brendan but will do it here, at the start he used to be the bad boy blah blah but he has really chilled and seems to enjoy it better now same with James Jordon he was really grumpy to start, maybe the producers had a word ?

aww dave leaving speech had me wiping away a tear it was lovely he just seems a nice man was his time though, if mark has been up against anybody else he would have went, did anybody notice Lens face he looked livid

I loved the choreography of SEB's AT and it definitely had the potential to be fantastic, but she just didn't attack it enough. Yes the woman should have an air of aloofness during the tango - after all she is basically playing a prostitute - but she needs the passion and drive to reel in her partner customer grin

mrsjay Sun 10-Nov-13 20:37:58

Susanna's dress is FAB U LUSS!

it was fab i was mesmerized by the swishiness of it,

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 20:39:30

the top of her head is missing ?. Must watch next week as never noticed.grin
Loved the opening pro swing dance.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 10-Nov-13 20:46:13

I try Jane grin

I don't know that much about the AT, I've only tried it once or twice at workshop-y things. But, I think Sophie danced it nicely and cleanly, but it didn't really have the feeling it needed. It needs to be much more intense. It isn't a particularly 'nice' dance, it's a lot more raw and uninhibited. Sophie just looked a bit embarrassed. If you look at how Karen looks here she's putting a lot more acting into it.

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 20:48:00

They have always said they can judge only on the night's performance with the bottom 2, not on past performances. Tonight Dave was better than Mark, despite being worse before.
Len said he would have voted for Dave tonight. He was obviously mad at the other judges not following correct voting procedure.

mrsjay Sun 10-Nov-13 20:50:03

probably digerd but I do think they can vote on how far they can go in the comp I do agree Dave was a bit better that rhumba was painful to watch

mrsjay Sun 10-Nov-13 20:50:27

oh its Rumba no h hmm

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 20:58:06

I didn't even notice - I really am going a bit senile[grin}

HellesBellesThinksSometimes Sun 10-Nov-13 20:58:59

Absolutely Frankel that sort of sense of being mentally aloof while physically passionate. It is such a shame.

Whichever way the vote had gone, it would have been wrong. If dave stayed because his dance-off performance was better, it would have been a travesty because he has been consistantly the least able dancer in the competition. That dave went when, for once, he wasn't the worst is also really unfair.

mrsjay Sun 10-Nov-13 21:00:22

I have always thought it was Rhumba but my read windows squiggly line was telling me NO IT IS RUMBA grin

digerd Sun 10-Nov-13 21:02:31

Argentine Tango.
Watch Vincent and Flavia on you Tube < you'll have to bear with Brucie introducing them for a few seconds> . Fantastic.

JaneEyresHeir Sun 10-Nov-13 21:05:58

And some pronounce it 'rum-bah'others 'room-bah'!
Roomba always sounds as bit rood rude to me....

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 10-Nov-13 21:09:59

Weirdly (I'bve been sucked into google) Kevin used to dance with Artem's ex-wife in Burn the Floor.

There's quite a bit of gossip actually. There's a whole lot of not-so-nice stuff about Karen bubbling on twitter and the SCD facebook. Apparently she was sent tweets accusing her of being a husband-stealer after those reports about her being nasty to Ola.

Clayhead Sun 10-Nov-13 21:12:58

AmIThatHot - you didn't make a mistake - the person on DS did, she came back and put it right later on the thread!

mrsjay Sun 10-Nov-13 21:13:16

that is really sad karen is getting grief the people hurling abuse at her are moaning she was nasty but they were just as bad, I suspect Ola gave as good as she got I dont agree with cattyness but to keep it going is just daft ,

wasnt burn the floor produced by robin windsor ?

AmIthatHot Sun 10-Nov-13 21:36:02

Thanks Clayhead just catching up on the DS thread now.

I'm not particularly a fan of Karen, but I think it's pathetic the abuse she's getting because she had a row with Ola, who is perfectly spiky and I'm sure quite capable of handling herself.

The mentality of some on twitter never ceases to amaze me.

Best AT Ever

is the best AT I have ever seen - Vincent and Flavia of couyrse (+ others)

wetaugust Sun 10-Nov-13 21:41:23

Well I found it sad that, having both auditioned, only Artem was selected. As a result his TV career taook off and hers didn't.

They split up eventually.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 10-Nov-13 21:54:10

A lot of them seem to get married very young. I don't know if that doesn't help.

I think it was Len who said in an interview that it was the worst thing possible to marry your dance partner, but then there are plenty of happily married dance couples, so it's hard to say. I suppose if the dancing's the only thing you have in common it can all fall apart if you stop for any reason.

Len married his dance partner as her father was also their coach. When he died Len and his wife quit competitive dancing to run the family dance school and he said they suddenly realised they had nothing in common.

One simple reason (back in the 60s/70s at least) to get married was because it saved on hotel bills - a married couple could share a room.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 10-Nov-13 22:15:01

Ah, thank you, I couldn't remember the exact circumstances.

I suppose a reason now for getting married would be for visas if you have a mixed-country partnership.

Snowstorm Sun 10-Nov-13 22:36:02

Marking my place.

IHadADreamThatWasNotAllADream Sun 10-Nov-13 23:04:50

I always wondered whether that was a factor in Matthew and Nicole Cutler's marriage - I guess they could never admit it if it was.

Horsemad Mon 11-Nov-13 00:38:27

Thought the right person went tonight. Hope Markk has ballroom next week.

mrsjay Mon 11-Nov-13 08:45:30

think Len has recently remarried I am sure the first week of the show the mentioned it,

thistlelicker Mon 11-Nov-13 08:47:20

Len looks good for his age I think !

SoupDragon Mon 11-Nov-13 09:12:46

I think Len has recently married too - I thought it was odd as I assumed he was married already

mrsjay Mon 11-Nov-13 09:13:36

yes so did I I assumed he had been married years ,

mrsjay Mon 11-Nov-13 09:15:48

I just googled LEn wedding and the first picture that came up was of him and Darcy grin

SoupDragon Mon 11-Nov-13 09:24:22

It's his third marriage too.

SoupDragon Mon 11-Nov-13 09:26:09

Actually I'm sullying myself with the Daily Mail it seems it's his second marriage with a long term relationship in between grin

ppeatfruit Mon 11-Nov-13 09:34:14

Thanks for the new thread Polka Blimey can you lot talk grin!! Well at last a dance off that makes sense. Dave seems a nice person but what made him think he'd be a dancer?? I wonder if he's ever watched Strictly grin He lacks body awareness FGS he couldn't move his arms and legs at the same time FGS!!!!

If he danced better than Mark then the same applies to Mark!!! Agree Karen's dress was lovely though;does anyone else think she comes across as fake?

I enjoyed the ProDance (the singers needed a bit more volume though).

FGS enough already with the fake sad faces at the end.

thistlelicker Mon 11-Nov-13 09:40:00

Vincent is of to the jungle shockshockshockshockshock

MsInterpret Mon 11-Nov-13 11:16:53

I just watched the very end of results to see what Len said about Mark, as it was all over DS with great outrage about him 'going off on one'! What an overreaction!

Darcey did look a bit shifty about saving Mark but the others were as they usually are.

I didn't warm to Karen at the beginning last year but I think she's all right. Kevin from Grimsby can't be wrong, can he?!

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock Mon 11-Nov-13 11:17:33

Thanks for the thread Polkadots!

Thank fuck Dave has gone. Wasn't funny any more.

Mark wasn't great but I think a themed rumba like that was a good decision by Iveta; they couldn't really do a properly sexy/romantic one and it's not the dance for full-out comedy.

Sophie too stiff, self-conscious, wooden legs. Nice routine though.

Ben forgettable. Fiona not bad at all and Craig was rude to her (and I LOVE Craig). Agree that Abbey was badly out of synch at times and overmarked. Ashley OK but fundamentally boring and unengaging. Agree with whoever it was that he lacks all sway and musicality. Watch Colin Jackson's quickstep for comparison.

I missed Natalie. I hope she's OK. Susanna was gorgeous but I disagree with the comment that she's better in hold/ballroom than Latin –I think she's great in both.

Patrick v good. Loved Anya's choreography. She's really impressed me with this and last week's jazzy quickstep. She seems to have tapped in to how to choreograph to bring out the best in him.

Is that all of them?

digerd Mon 11-Nov-13 11:45:43

Perhaps out of our earshot Len told Darcy off as she said her decision was based on all the previous performances.

LlamateurDramatics Mon 11-Nov-13 13:13:00

Late newcomer to this thread, hope you don't mind! I watched the results on iplayer this morning and was asked by my son why my 'eyes had gone leaky' blush. I didn't particularly enjoy Dave's dancing but he seems like a thoroughly nice bloke and he and Karen seem to genuinely get on. After Saturday and last night I'm now firmly in the Susanna and Kevin camp, not only was their waltz gorgeous but he seems like a lovely man too <swoons>

FushandChups Mon 11-Nov-13 13:47:17

As not having a chance to watch either the main show or results, am unashamedly marking my place.

Sounds like a real mixed bag and think, despite my love for all things Iveta, if Mark was the worst in the dance off, he should've gone sad he wouldn't have lasted much longer and would've continued the integrity of the dance off (instead of exposing it for the sham that it is smile)

Will try & see this week on i-player in my lunch hour as i want to see SEB's AT and Susanna's dress!

FushandChups Mon 11-Nov-13 13:49:02

I obviously meant 'Dave wouldn't have lasted much longer!'

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock Mon 11-Nov-13 14:02:40

I didn't think Mark was worse than Dave in the dance-off, although admittedly I don't know anything about dance and didn't spot any mistakes.

TBH I think even if he did make loads of mistakes, at least he made them dancing, whereas Dave was not going to get beyond the 'stomping and making faces' stage.

EmeraldJeanie Mon 11-Nov-13 14:10:04

I thought Mark just stood about making poses.
At least Dave did try dance moves rather than just be danced around.
It was the right two in the bottom two for a change though.

IHadADreamThatWasNotAllADream Mon 11-Nov-13 15:27:48

I didn't think Darcey did say that her decision was based on Mark's past dances did she? I think she teetered on the edge of saying "I'm choosing Mark because of his previous dancing/future potential" but slammed the brakes in midsentence when she either realised that it was verboten or was screamed at to stop by a stage manager in her earpiece.

IHadADreamThatWasNotAllADream Mon 11-Nov-13 15:28:49

I think that Len may have been technically right in his choice (much though I prefer Mark) but I disliked the way he expressed it.

AndiMac Mon 11-Nov-13 17:16:45

Mark just stood about making poses, but that's kind of what the rumba is. Hardly a dance to take you across the floor.

Maryz Mon 11-Nov-13 18:18:41

Personally I don't think they could take the risk that if they saved Dave he wouldn't come back with ridiculous support and stay for another four weeks, which would make a mockery out of the whole thing.

I think all the judges knew that. Len just likes to pretend he is all for the roools. In reality, he was as glad as the rest to see the back of him.

I don't think the dance-off should be on just this week by the way. That was fine in the old days when everyone did pretty much the same dance. But how can you possible compare a celebrity man trying to do a rumba compared to a celebrity woman doing a waltz, for example.

The elimination should be on how well they have learned to dance. And ultimately Dave never did.

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock Mon 11-Nov-13 18:57:17

Maryz, that's a great point about parity in the dance-off. I think it should be dropped. My main reason for that opinion has always been that the judges have had their say when they score the dances and the rest should be up to the public, but I'm going to add your reasoning to my argument now grin

I also think they should revert to all doing the same ballroom or the same Latin every week. There's no way you can make meaningful comparisons when the dances are all over the place.

digerd Mon 11-Nov-13 18:59:34

I've always thought it should be on how they danced previously and especially when one man had to do the rumba, but those were always the rules and Len is a stickler for them.
Craig is looking so well and relaxed <said he is off his meds nowhmm>

Fiona has great bone structure. Anton doing lifts with her in their next dance.

Badvoc Mon 11-Nov-13 19:01:51

Much as I wanted Dave out of the competition he danced better than mark in the dance off and iirc the final vote is on the dance off alone?
I think Len was spot on.
I agree about the comparison of dances...would be much fairer if they were all being judged on a jive and a waltz for example.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Mon 11-Nov-13 19:02:43

I think it's sometimes put quietly to one side in Strictly, whereas in Dancing On Ice they always said "The slate has been wiped clean, how you've danced earlier won't count against you, you are being judged purely on this dance etc.".

They don't say that every time on Strictly, so maybe don't always feel like they're doing that, even though they should be.

mrsjay Mon 11-Nov-13 19:57:53

Lets face it even if they did bend the rules a wee bit dave a lovely man pretty rubbish to watch he wasn't even humorous least Mark puts on a performance usually and can dance a bit ,

Maryz Mon 11-Nov-13 19:57:55

Well, either way, I'm glad he has gone.

I think had they saved him, there would have been a humungous surge of support and someone much better would have gone next week. Whereas I think Mark has probably reached his peak dancing and support wise and will probably quietly go.

ppeatfruit Tue 12-Nov-13 07:58:51

Agree Maryz Did anyone hear\see CRH in ST2 ? He reckoned that Patrick is the best male celeb. I'm inclined to agree with him;once his wrist is completely better he'll fly IMO grin.

CeliaFate Tue 12-Nov-13 08:01:23

It was definitely time for Dave to go. I too think Abbey was way over marked. She was out of time in lots of places and it lacked any wow factor for me. Compared to Sophie's Charleston, I would have marked Abbey 7 and Sophie 9.
I loved Patrick's dance. He's just joyful to watch. Nobody blew me away though.

digerd Tue 12-Nov-13 08:49:17

Susanna's dress blew me away and made her dance look beautiful. Her arms, neck, posture and expression had greatly improved.

digerd Tue 12-Nov-13 08:52:33

Didn't notice her feet though.

CeliaFate Tue 12-Nov-13 08:55:59

I've just looked back at previous series - Gethin Jones' salsa. That was amazing! Alesha Dixon's Cha Cha, Scott Maslin's jive. Brilliant dances that had such atmosphere. I think that's lacking a little this series.

mrsjay Tue 12-Nov-13 09:20:00

I agree Celia nothing is overly spectacular this year it is all a bit Meh , although I loved Susannahs waltz it was lovely. maybe after blackpool they will start pulling out the moves hopefully

mrsjay Tue 12-Nov-13 09:21:09

and once their is less dancers you start to notice them more IYSWIm

digerd Tue 12-Nov-13 09:59:48

Ian on on ITT on Wednesdays. When is Karon on, tonight?

mrsjay Tue 12-Nov-13 10:05:20

there* i meant there*

digerd Tue 12-Nov-13 10:06:10

Or is it Karenblush

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock Tue 12-Nov-13 10:14:09

Yes, it's Karen tonight. Yay! I love Ian and his Wednesday warm-up too. Can take or leave ITT the rest of the time now Claudia's not on it any more.

digerd Tue 12-Nov-13 10:28:59

Thanks. smile Must try not to forget it then as feel the same about the rest of it. Do enjoy Ian's as at least he wears shoes he can dance properly in to demonstrate how it should be done.

ppeatfruit Tue 12-Nov-13 10:34:22

WRF to atmosphere IMO the lighting is better in this series you can actually see the dancers and their feet sometimes. I liked the 'remembrance suite' they did on Sunday.

Minimammoth Tue 12-Nov-13 12:51:21

Anyone hear Stricktly being discussed on women's hour this morning? Interesting discussion on equality and appropriateness of comments about male celebs chest etc. which would be frowned on if it were a similar comment about a woman's body. I think I agree.

Minimammoth Tue 12-Nov-13 12:51:53

Still can't spell strictly.

AndiMac Tue 12-Nov-13 12:54:33

Minimammoth, I didn't hear the women's hour today, but they do comment on the women's bodies. Talking about Abbey's long legs, etc.

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock Tue 12-Nov-13 13:26:20

I don't think they talk about the women in the same way, though. The tone of the comments about the men is often quite leering/innuendo-heavy, and that's absent when they talk about the women.

No one ever slavers over one of the women's cleavages, for example, but think of all the talk/fuss about Ben's chest.

I don't really know how I feel about this. Conflicted, I think grin

ppeatfruit Tue 12-Nov-13 13:48:35

Yes TheHeadless there is a strange double standard about the comments much more nowadays (it used to be comments about women always) probably better to have equality in the comments. (sorry not correct grammar) grin

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock Tue 12-Nov-13 14:27:08

Did they used to leer over the women?

I think I do remember some 'joky' comments about all the male slebs wanting to get Ola...

But nothing on the level of Bruno and Craig talking about Ben and his chest/arse.

There was of course also Arlene and her slavering over Mark Ramprakash and his tight buttocks grin

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock Tue 12-Nov-13 14:27:54

PS hello ppeat! How's tricks?

ppeatfruit Tue 12-Nov-13 14:34:45

Hello to you as well grin Have you NCed? grin

ppeatfruit Tue 12-Nov-13 14:37:29

<whispers> it's just sex ain't it men or women ? !! (there's my non PCness raising it's head grin

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock Tue 12-Nov-13 14:57:42

Oh yes, hadn't thought that you might not recognise me grin. It was in the run-up to Halloween, a little while ago, but I suppose it's been a while since we 'saw' each other!

It IS just sex. I think it's interesting that Strictly is allowed to be pretty gay/camp for such a mainstream show.

ppeatfruit Tue 12-Nov-13 15:18:58

That's very true TheHeadless IIRC we said how camp Strictly is about the last series; one of its strengths IMO grin Did you see John Borrowman saying he was a friend of Liza Minnelli's mother ? I LOL at that such an insider gay joke!!

AndiMac Tue 12-Nov-13 15:38:20

I do love John Barrowman, he's so fab-u-lous!

SoupDragon Tue 12-Nov-13 15:41:58

WRT comments about the male dancers, it's could be because they are usually fully clothed and the women are often expected to be half naked, thus needing no comment.

Didn't Louis Smith appear clad only in a pair of tights last series?

SoupDragon Tue 12-Nov-13 15:44:03

Imagine Ben performing in a pair of shorts as skimpy as SEBs Charleston dress grin

Maryz Tue 12-Nov-13 15:45:00

There would be uproar if they leered at the women they way they do at the men. In the olden days, they probably talked like that about cleavage and cute butts on women, but that wouldn't be acceptable now.

I'm not entirely sure it's appropriate to do it to the men for that reason - it can be funny, but also makes me cringe a bit.

but then I go on tennis threads and post inappropriate links to half-naked tennis players, so who am I to talk

Maryz Tue 12-Nov-13 15:47:31

Actually, yes Soup, I cross-posted but you do have a point there.

Like this maybe shock

Maryz Tue 12-Nov-13 15:48:08

And that isn't the most revealing one I found, so he obviously doesn't mind strutting his stuff.

I might have gone off him a bit [disapproving]

SoupDragon Tue 12-Nov-13 15:50:26

You can certainly see the quality of his tango in that picture grin

SoupDragon Tue 12-Nov-13 15:51:55

Oh my goodness! There is one where he is only wearing his hands shock and they aren't big enough

Maryz Tue 12-Nov-13 15:57:30

I know, there are an amazing variety.

And I only googled his name. I'm afraid to google "Ben Cohen Naked" which I may have done for the tennis players when looking for one of Tsonga, just for educational purposes on the Wimbledon thread you understand

I do realise I'm more of a perv than Craig, Bruno and Darcy added together blush

SoupDragon Tue 12-Nov-13 15:59:19

I only googled his name too.

I do think the "leering" is only because they aren't normally half naked. Also, it's very good natured IMO.

Maryz Tue 12-Nov-13 15:59:48

Yes, to be fair, it is only a bit of fun.

SoupDragon Tue 12-Nov-13 16:00:04

holy crap - do not google Ben Cohen naked

Maryz Tue 12-Nov-13 16:01:21

Now I want to grin

But I can't because this fecking computer seems to keep unhiding the history I have hidden for some reason.

And this place is really fecking up my internet history.

I'll have to have a look on my phone later.

SoupDragon Tue 12-Nov-13 16:03:11

Let's just say he is very naked. None of that arty farty nonsense.

I need a lie down.

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock Tue 12-Nov-13 16:29:44

ppeat, yes, the 'friend of her mother' comment was quite funny, as was Zoe's face when she realised she was about to say 'You're a friend of Liza's' and couldn't not say it grin

CeliaFate Tue 12-Nov-13 16:52:54

Oh dear God, I've just googled Ben Cohen naked. I've come over all unnecessary. It must be photoshopped - his head onto a porn star's body?

mrsjay Tue 12-Nov-13 18:04:13

so you are googling naked men now TUT TUT you would never see me google naked men oh lordy fans self

mrsjay Tue 12-Nov-13 18:05:50

idn't Louis Smith appear clad only in a pair of tights last series?

yes very tight tights shock

wetaugust Tue 12-Nov-13 18:12:14

It's a photoshop.

Fiderer Tue 12-Nov-13 18:33:22

Karen Hardy's on ITT tonight, if you lot can focus after all that leching wink

Hmm, anyone think Janette is marking her territory with that VT? wink

Fiderer Tue 12-Nov-13 18:43:25

Cringeworthy, who'd want to show all that? And the teddy? More OTT than ITT.

digerd Tue 12-Nov-13 20:01:37

I thought I'd come onto the wrong Threadwink.
What I like the most is Ben's soft expression in his lovely eyes - it made my heart melt.

To get back to matters in hand <smile>, I found it interesting to hear Karen say that in the Paso - my favourite with the rumba- Fiona should have stepped with more heel leads and was on her toes all the time.
Didn't know that.

SoupDragon Tue 12-Nov-13 20:23:28

It's a photoshop.

all of them??

digerd, my teacher always says that Paso is more like a ballroom dance than a latin one because of the footwork and room alignments.

Fiderer Tue 12-Nov-13 21:22:07

But (again) why waste all that time on sodding flat-showing (ffs, "Here's our fridge, Alijaz has a thing for pineapple juice") when Karen could have had more time to do her CC? She & Zoe have to gallop through it and then we get that nonsense with WhatsHerFace catching flies.

RedPencils Tue 12-Nov-13 21:48:18

This thread has taken a turn to the gutter grin.

I always think Strictly is an equal opportunity perve-fest.

MsInterpret Tue 12-Nov-13 22:38:20

Oh god yes, the bit with Jeanette was such FILLERRRRR. Yawn.

I'm such a loser, I was contemplating today how they have to structure ITT differently each week as there are fewer and fewer slebs left dancing. normally Karen Hardy has two short slots where she looks at Latin them Ballroom but today they had one continuous discussion. And around this time they start doing serious fillers I think. Evidence, the aforementioned. WTF was the fly (which wasn't even there at the when she'd supposedly 'got it!') and the bananas bit about? It was surreal!

ppeatfruit Wed 13-Nov-13 09:33:34

Well I'm not googling naked men (i wouldn't want dh googling naked women grin) you naughty lot grin.

fiderer and MsInter YYYYY to that ridiculous VT looking round a flat A FLAT FGS !!! Why oh why ?????. There's sooo much they could do;e.g. show the basics of each dance so we can all do them.

SoupDragon Wed 13-Nov-13 10:52:25

It was Maryz who dragged it won to the gutter! She made me google it!

I thought Abbey was out of synch on Saturday too - especially when they showed it slowed down on the Len's Lens bit on Sunday . DS2 disagreed with me.

AndiMac Wed 13-Nov-13 10:59:48

What was that fly bit all about??? Please don't tell me I'm the only one old enough to remember Karate Kid.

Silly filler, but that fly joke never gets old.

ppeatfruit Wed 13-Nov-13 11:23:49

Soup <wags finger hoist bosom and looks over spectacles> maryz should know better, if she told you to put your head in a gas oven...... grin grin !!!!

Maryz Wed 13-Nov-13 11:32:27

I didn't meant to, I swear. And I haven't even googled him naked [prim]

I wish they would fill IT2 with more analysis, not fillers.

Maryz Wed 13-Nov-13 11:32:37

Oops, didn't mean to.

ppeatfruit Wed 13-Nov-13 11:41:43

YYY agree about the analysis. It does seem is if the whole of Strictly is trying to appeal to as many people as poss. what's wrong with making the content more educational? See above for school marmish attitudes!!

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock Wed 13-Nov-13 11:48:29

ITT was utter bobbins, wasn't it? I'm going to write a strong letter to the Beeb demanding more proper content and less of people pissing about in their identikit 'I only live here while I'm doing Strictly' flats.

Karen could have had an extra what, four or five minutes instead of us having to look at Aljaz and Janette's stupid cushions.

<<wields green pen>>

RedPencils Wed 13-Nov-13 14:30:21

I used to love on ITT when Len tried to teach Claudia the dances.

ppeatfruit Wed 13-Nov-13 16:20:35

Or a Redpencil ? [TheHeadless] (I like it being bobbins btw) i have terrible memories of school sewing lessons and never being able to thread the bleedin' bobbin grin .Claudia is n't a dancer according to her biog. from the beeb yes that would be fun Red.

digerd Wed 13-Nov-13 16:34:34

Must admit I did watch the flat thing and was amazed at how small but tidy and clean it was and that she didn't cook. Bananas with everything I found weird. An active man like Aljaz needs lots of fuel for those muscles. Steak and veg for him and tit bits for her if she wants.[grin[

I found a video of a similar flat on You Tube with Karen and Kevin - before Kevin joined Strictly. It was all about her and then a quick flash of her boyfriend Kevin . She called it her flat her Crib, which I thought was odd.

digerd Wed 13-Nov-13 16:48:11

Just found it on You Tube < Kevin was introduced at the beginning of the video not the end>.
Karen Hauer's Crib on ITT 20/12/2012

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock Wed 13-Nov-13 16:57:50

They call the feature if you can call it that Strictly Cribs, so maybe that's where she got it?

When Kevin joined Strictly I also remembered that episode, with her briefly introducing her 'boyfriend Kevin'. I thought then that Kevin was an unlikely-seeming name for a dancer.

Turns out that he's an unlikely-looking person for a dancer grin I luff him though.

digerd Wed 13-Nov-13 17:13:00

He seems like a really sweet young man, our Kevinsmile. Looked very young in that video last year.
Ooh, Ian on ITT tonight and we will see which dances they are doing as he critiques their training.

mrsjay Wed 13-Nov-13 17:14:49

I am getting a soft spot for Kevin he seems just lovely

digerd Wed 13-Nov-13 17:28:57

I looked at Joanna Leunis dancing a Paso to look at her heel leads, but I couldn't take my eyes of her upper body awesome expression and gorgeous leg extensions/back bends. I did manage to see her natural walks which she did do with her heels first, but all her twizzle turns she has to do on her toes. Also saw a slow heels together heel turn as in the Foxtrot.

thistlelicker Wed 13-Nov-13 18:35:20

Why does Zoe need to wee them super duper high heel! When she danced with Ian I thought she was gonna snap her neck shock

thistlelicker Wed 13-Nov-13 18:41:15

Hahahaha ha them mocking abbey And her hair on it takes two

thistlelicker Wed 13-Nov-13 18:58:04

Oh myyyyy Ben in cycling shorts :-)shockshockwinkwink

RedPencils Wed 13-Nov-13 21:07:20

I do like Abby but she's such a poseur, grin at them taking the piss.

Ben is fine figure of a man. Mrs Ben's a lucky lady.

digerd Wed 13-Nov-13 21:36:20

At least Zoe's killer heels did not have thick clodhoppy platform soles this week. Her soles of the shoes were flexible and she could bend them I noticed. She is so tall and doesn't need those height of heels to make her legs look even longer than they are. They just give her balance problems.
I laughed at her face and bent legs hugging his in the tango position he grabbed her intogrin. She looked so relieved when they went into the more relaxed and apart latin hold. grin

ppeatfruit Thu 14-Nov-13 11:52:31

True digerd But they had her coming down the stairs in the last series and it looked like she was about to fall arse over tit in them. she mentioned them when she was presenting the Chris Evans show and said they're in her cupboard but she never wears them away from Strictly confused

MsInterpret Thu 14-Nov-13 21:00:34

Don't think anyone's linked to Monkseal for this week yet.

Enjoy! grin

OodaresingingoftheDoctorDonna Thu 14-Nov-13 21:16:21

On yahoo news there's something about Karen & Ola fighting after Saturdays show. Pascha holding Katen back?

digerd, I missed your post last night. Joanna Leunis is just hypnotic isn't she! She had leukaemia when she was a child, and also danced with our friend Slavik - they were world amateur champions in 2008.

RedPencils Thu 14-Nov-13 21:53:10

Ood - that was last week. Karen apparently told
Ola she had to be at the back in the pro dances because she's rubbish. I thought it was a load if rubbish but Surprisingly the BBC commented saying Karen had apologised and it was over and done with.
The idea that Pasha was holding them back makes me howl with laughter.

OodaresingingoftheDoctorDonna Fri 15-Nov-13 07:04:13

Saw the twitter thing but the news thing made it sound more recent. Though yahoo isn't the best source!

The story I read said that Pasha held Karen back from chasing after Ola after she left the training room in tears.

Dancing can be a very bitchy world. My teacher has told me plenty of competition horror stories including one particular school who used to more or less "attack" her pupils on the floor - they'd deliberately dance into them/cross their paths/try to trip them up, etc.

AndiMac Fri 15-Nov-13 08:19:05

I know it's just filler on ITT, but I did enjoy the professional dancers all saying who they thought was the most vain, the grumpiest in the morning, etc. They all seemed to take it with the right attitude. Plus I got to hear Kevin do his Artem impression again. grin

digerd Fri 15-Nov-13 08:48:49

I was mesmerised at a video I found of her from some years ago in which she was wearing a yellow dress dancing a winners show dance.
But haven't been able to find it now. It may have been in 2008, but didn't notice the name of her partner. Wish I could see it again.

ppeatfruit Fri 15-Nov-13 09:29:34

Sorrry to say "i told you so" But I did mention IMO that Karen is fake it sounds like she's a beatch as well!!

Thanks for Monkseal MsInterpret That was a titanic read but I did lol quite a bit grin grin I noticed Fiona's aga in her kitchen as well!

AndiMac Fri 15-Nov-13 10:51:38

Yes, thanks for the Monkseal link, I had totally forgotten about it. Just sounded like an insane woman cackling out loud as I read the parts about Mark and Ivetta's rumba. The specific comment was, "sexytime at Chairman Mao's house". I'm cackling again typing this.

mrsjay Fri 15-Nov-13 11:14:07

ooo monkseal I have forgetten this week, oh I did like Artems modesty and nominating himself the most vain grin dont care i still want to lick him

RedPencils Fri 15-Nov-13 12:45:40

The vainest and the grumpiest, I don't care, He's luuuuuuuush.

Tantastic with Robin

AndiMac Fri 15-Nov-13 13:29:45

Oh my mercies... pass me my fan, I feel a bit flushed.

ppeatfruit Fri 15-Nov-13 13:39:15

<passes fan and cold water sprayer> to Andi sit down dear grin

mrsjay Fri 15-Nov-13 14:36:51

oh dearie me a bit tantastic but <gulp>

ppeatfruit Fri 15-Nov-13 15:53:39

Nah I can see the attraction but I prefer a man who's less body sculpted not quite so obviously addicted to the gym and fake tan IFYSWIM grin <ducks the flames> grin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Fri 15-Nov-13 17:15:47

Not really my type either, that's too muscly for my taste (I'd go for Kevin or Pasha).

ppeatfruit Fri 15-Nov-13 18:06:48

Yes and Matt is far too muscle bound for me; he's too much like a gorilla IMVHO grin

Oh god I'd forgotten how dull Jason Donavan is <yawns>

ppeatfruit Fri 15-Nov-13 18:57:17

Duh silly me who's Matt? I meant muscle bound Ben of course!!!!

ppeatfruit Fri 15-Nov-13 18:59:06

Who did Jodie and whatsername from Scissor sisters' make up? They looked awful esp. Jodie.

digerd Fri 15-Nov-13 19:09:08

Oh dear, the 3 stoogies tonightgrin. Missed the first halfsad
Saw the wardrobe room and liked Sophie's dress for the quickstep. The red dress on the model/dummy looked like an Argentine Tango dress?
Artem has hurt his neck and can't move it.

What did I miss in the first half?

James interviewed Abbey, Aljaz, Ashley and Ola and Jason waffled on, as usual!

MsInterpret Fri 15-Nov-13 20:35:09

Yeah, there was almost nothing in the studio, it was all James in Blackpool. Quite nice, for a change.

I was thinking Ana Matronic looked fab blush...but agreee with Jodie P and also thought Zoe's eyes terrible!

RedPencils Fri 15-Nov-13 20:52:02
ppeatfruit Fri 15-Nov-13 21:56:44

Digerd And for some obscure reason everyone was being mean to James because "he wasn't in it any more" probably heralding a special part for him in the pro dance. It's nice thAT ALL of the girls are going to be dancing in the pro dance so that'll be fun their dresses looked fab.

RedPencils Fri 15-Nov-13 22:25:20

Not watched it yet. Did he interview Karen? Would love to see that one.

CloudOfStarlings Sat 16-Nov-13 07:16:17

No James won't be in the pro dance, he's really hurt his back.
I think it was supposed to be funny banter telling James he's not in it anymore but he's so wooden when interviewing/presenting that it just came across really awkward.

Apparently Joanne Clifton & mum and dad Clifton are in the big group dance tonight? Should be fun.
I need to register on the BBC site, about time I started voting! Think I've decided Kev & Susanna are my faves but still loving SEB & Brendan and willing her to do well tonight!

digerd Sat 16-Nov-13 07:43:20

Looking forward to tonight and wondering what style of dance it will be in those full net skirted dresses?
I felt sorry for James and thought the constant remarks were OTT even if it was meant to be 'funny'.

digerd I think the wardrobe lady referred to the section for those dresses as "The Ballroom Blitz". I'm hoping that means a proper ballroom medley.

ppeatfruit Sat 16-Nov-13 09:31:52

Agree digerd I'm also looking forward to it and as Frankel said hoping for a good ol' fashioned ballroom dance. (i enjoyed looking at the ballroom and its history).

RedPencils James interviewed Ola (his wife) ? I'm not up to the full ins and outs of the pros lives because I've only started watching SCD relatively recently grin

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock Sat 16-Nov-13 10:52:44

I don't think James is wooden at all! I really enjoyed his stuff last night.

Ana Matronic was very insightful and articulate.

ppeatfruit Sat 16-Nov-13 11:03:10

Yeees TheHeadless But I'm not sure I agreed with her about the use of non traditional music.I LOVE the 'proper' ballroom music when they occasionally use it so do the dancers from what they say. (if I was to stop watching SCD the main reasons would be some of the music and the screaming audience grin)

AndiMac Sat 16-Nov-13 11:10:48

The standing ovations for managing to move around the floor without falling over do get tedious, but I do enjoy the dances just as much when done to the right modern song.

I'm not looking forward to the Paso done to Carmen (too much of a caricature) nor to Bon Jovi (have never liked them much) tonight.

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock Sat 16-Nov-13 11:12:08

I love the proper stuff too (I'm pleased that Susanna is dancing her paso to music from Carmen), but I thought she was right that just occasionally a modern song can be, unexpectedly, 'just right'. Often they're terrible, though, I agree grin

Traditional music just works so much better, after all it was usually written to be danced to. I agree some modern stuff works well, but most if it ends up being butchered and the dances shoehorned to fit.

ppeatfruit Sat 16-Nov-13 14:33:14

True Andi but when you've got someone as bad as Dave he DID deserve it for just managing to move his arms and legs together grin. His lack of co-ordination was epic!

ppeatfruit Sat 16-Nov-13 14:35:54

I was watching The 2 Ronnies best of show and they showed the ballroom scene I then realised how effing good they were at dancing!!!!grin

digerd Sat 16-Nov-13 15:54:31

Was that the Olde Tyme? I loved that one and would love to see it again. Which channel was it on?

digerd Sat 16-Nov-13 16:02:20

I was out walking the dog, just found it on Gold +1 but think I've missed it.sad.

digerd Sat 16-Nov-13 16:30:22

Found it on You Tube < but the picture focus was not good> and loved it.
Memories of the Gay Gordons, Valeta and St Bernard's Waltz were so nostalgic for me. We used to do them at holiday camps yonks ago.

Noseynoonoo Sat 16-Nov-13 17:05:43

I watched ITT last night. Did I get it right that Abbie is dancing another ballroom dance. Surely they are running out of dances that require stiff posture and being held in hold? Had to laugh when Jason Donovan went 'off message' and said that we could do without Abbie's hair flicking. Quick backtracking with comment about how pretty she is quickly inserted.

Noseynoonoo Sat 16-Nov-13 17:07:58

Had to rewatch it. Jason had to backtrack and say the hair business is 'part of her charm'. Bleurgh!

AndiMac Sat 16-Nov-13 17:19:17

FrankelInFoal, I assumed the Ballroom Blitz will be done to this number. We shall see - just over an hour to go!!

<runs off to find something sparkly>

mrsjay Sat 16-Nov-13 17:22:13

I am getting stupidly excited about tonight the family have been warned dinner must be over and all shush before 6 30 grin oh and the wine is chilling

Snowstorm Sat 16-Nov-13 17:31:43

Marking my place.

AmIthatHot Sat 16-Nov-13 17:44:22

I'm getting excited. Just away to eat then get settled to watch at 6.30

OodaresingingoftheDoctorDonna Sat 16-Nov-13 17:56:57

Trying to get baby down early & persuaded toddler to stay & watch.

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 18:27:05

I am also going to have wine tonight. I don't have my DC and had to have an operation on my finger this week which has turned out to be the most painful thing EVER.. so sod it, bring on the sparkles!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 16-Nov-13 18:32:35

Here we go smile

Love the kids!

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 18:37:52

Blackpool is just SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than bastard Wembley.. ooh, that was just fab-u-lous! DO IT AGAIN, again!!

Gooseysgirl Sat 16-Nov-13 18:38:24

Not loving Tess' frock shock

NoPinkPlease Sat 16-Nov-13 18:38:54

Oh I'm so soft these days - just sobbed at the kids dancing...shock

jonicomelately Sat 16-Nov-13 18:39:34

The kids are fantastic. Wonderful to see smile

Horsemad Sat 16-Nov-13 18:40:09

Aww, loved that dance, especially the kids.

I got teary too NoPink blush

Gooseysgirl Sat 16-Nov-13 18:40:24

The kids were great, sooo cute!

MrsBramleyApple Sat 16-Nov-13 18:41:52

What the jeffing heck does Natalie look like!!! hmm

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 16-Nov-13 18:41:57

It was lovely (well the bits of it could see around the cat!). I'm typing one-handed because she's pawing at me if I dare stop tickling her behind the ear.

pinkteddy Sat 16-Nov-13 18:42:01

Did anyone notice Ben was wooden as a plank in that routine?!

Horsemad Sat 16-Nov-13 18:43:22

SEB has a lovely complexion.

OodaresingingoftheDoctorDonna Sat 16-Nov-13 18:43:43

Missed the dance as I was trying to miss Bruce. angry will watch tomorrow

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob Sat 16-Nov-13 18:43:59

Love this but I just cannot stand Bruce. It's not personal, I'm sure he is very nice but he makes me cringe.

OodaresingingoftheDoctorDonna Sat 16-Nov-13 18:45:16

Her hair is bugging me

AmIthatHot Sat 16-Nov-13 18:46:05

Lumpy not too sure that he is actually nice,

I spend every Saturday shouting STFU Forsyth at the TV

Horsemad Sat 16-Nov-13 18:46:11

That was lovely.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 16-Nov-13 18:46:13

That was fun smile

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 18:46:18

I like that lots... SEB really looked like she was having fun, something which has been missing the last few weeks...

AmIthatHot Sat 16-Nov-13 18:47:51

I liked that too. She looked so elegant.

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 18:48:08

and yes, Lumpy - Bruce is dreadful! Please, please STFU!!

Liked that, though not sure about the extra dancers hmm

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 18:49:51

Brendan is just lovely..

AndiMac Sat 16-Nov-13 18:50:28

Ack, am 15 minutes behind! DH sneakily had the rugby on and I failed to notice the time.

Is Kevin From Grimsby wearing eyeliner?!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 16-Nov-13 18:51:53

Didn't we have a very similar joke a few weeks ago,, but with Hamlet?

AndiMac Sat 16-Nov-13 18:52:14

It's a Strictly Ballroom look, from the film I imagine.

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 18:52:55

I also really like Patrick and want him to do well... I'm looking forward to his Samba!

JaneEyresHeir Sat 16-Nov-13 18:54:45

Loved Sophie & Brendan - she looked confident at last!

AmIthatHot Sat 16-Nov-13 18:54:58

Andi you could be right. Shades of Tina Sparkle there

Horsemad Sat 16-Nov-13 18:55:01

Outfit malfunction - 2nd week in a row shock

Eek, wardrobe malfunction!

Sadly Patrick is very flat footed, and there is next to no bounce action.

Maryz Sat 16-Nov-13 18:55:57

Evening all.

I'm watching te end of the match and will catch up by whizzing through Bruce in a bit

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 16-Nov-13 18:56:28

I couldn't work out why she was hopping!

He's a bit flat-footed though.

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 18:56:36

That wasn't too bad but could've been better. For one, I think he should have been in pink or gold like Anya as he sort of disappeared at points. I also thought his solo bits was fabulous..

Sounds like the judges saw something I didn't in that though - although his Samba rolls were really funky!

Does anything happen backstage when there's a wardrobe malfunction? Is this just one of those things or does someone get a rollicking?

Pan Sat 16-Nov-13 18:57:18

Craig was really harsh. ( across the board.)

Horsemad Sat 16-Nov-13 18:58:22

Evening Pan!

Pan Sat 16-Nov-13 18:59:15

Evenin! Am of X-factor duties!grin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 16-Nov-13 18:59:38

Doubt it Bill, it's quite a common dress style and there aren't usually problems. It's not like somebody didn't do a strap up properly or anything.

pinkteddy Sat 16-Nov-13 18:59:46

Could have been 4 x 10s what a shame. Still brilliant.

Hmm, the judges were watching a different dance to me! Yes there was rhythm and lots of steps but it totally lacked any bounce at all! That was nowhere near the best Samba they've ever had on SCD.

Thanks - was imagining some poor soul quaking in their boots!

AmIthatHot Sat 16-Nov-13 19:01:11

Yawn, now we have Kristina, me, me, me and her plank of wood that inexplicably gets women excited <loves Pasha>

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 16-Nov-13 19:02:11

I used to love Buckaroo.

HRHwheezing Sat 16-Nov-13 19:03:01

The samba is so hard, male celebrities find it really difficult to dance to.

That was marvellous.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 16-Nov-13 19:03:24

I don't like these dresses this year, with the slits right up to the top at the front of the skirt.

Ben was quite skippy through that and his shoulders just don't seem to move at all!

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 19:04:30

Waiting for all the Ben love on this thread BUT..

Uhm - was that about four bars on hold, maybe?

Pretty lifts but not my cup of tea!

AndiMac Sat 16-Nov-13 19:04:45

Not enjoying Ben and Kristina much. She's overacting hard to make up for Ben.

MrsBramleyApple Sat 16-Nov-13 19:05:10

Amithathot............... I am more than happy to say that I fancy the plank of wood!!! grin

Bit late to the party - what have I missed??? The stupid sky box didn't record the first half hour grrrrrrrr

What was the wardrobe malfunction? Intrigued!

Horsemad Sat 16-Nov-13 19:06:10

Thought Ben & Kristina were ok.

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 19:06:32

in hold, of course!

I'm with AmIthatHot (even up to the Pasha love!)

JaneEyresHeir Sat 16-Nov-13 19:06:42

Ben's very easy on the eye, but I'm finding him a bit boring now.....
Even the lifts are getting a bit predictable!

IHadADreamThatWasNotAllADream Sat 16-Nov-13 19:07:07

I agree with fush that Patrick's all black costume was a mistake for Blackpool. It would have been fine for Elstree, which is brighter, but he disappeared a bit in this arena. I agree with Craig that I'd like to see him repeat it.

AndiMac Sat 16-Nov-13 19:07:10

Anya got her heel caught in the fluffy feather pillow on her bottom.

FamiliesShareGerms Sat 16-Nov-13 19:07:22

Dislike Kristina's choreography soooo much (all about her twirling)

AmIthatHot Sat 16-Nov-13 19:07:56

grin grin Mrs Bramley loads do. You can "have" him and I can have my wicked way with Pasha - oh and Ashley - and if Kevin wants to join in, well why not grin

JaneEyresHeir Sat 16-Nov-13 19:08:27

7 for Sophie but 8 for Ben, Craig hmm

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 19:08:33

An 8 from Craig... really hmm

The marking has been really odd this season, well I think so anyway, and that just continues the trend..

YAY - it's time for Ashley!

AndiMac Sat 16-Nov-13 19:08:58

Ashley doesn't look that certain about his costume choice...

Has someone slipped something into the judges tea tonight? Very high marks so far.

wetaugust Sat 16-Nov-13 19:09:40

I like Kristina. She's a real pro. She puts as much effort into it with a reasonably good dancer like Ben as she did with the really hopeless John Sargeant.

Thanks andi

Damn, Sophie E B is my favourite and I missed her!

Horsemad Sat 16-Nov-13 19:11:00

Think this'll be weird dressed as a cowboy!

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 19:11:06

Agree Andi - but he wears it well!

FamiliesShareGerms Sat 16-Nov-13 19:11:45

Are they all obliged to have additional backing dancers this week or something?

Horsemad Sat 16-Nov-13 19:12:11

Nope, costume not doing it for me angry

Ashley - bent knees and no heel leads.

<feeling harsh tonight>

Good attitude and mostly good posture though.

AmIthatHot Sat 16-Nov-13 19:12:45

Oh now that is good looking. I so would wink

DameEdnasBridesmaid Sat 16-Nov-13 19:12:56

I liked that. He looks good smile

AndiMac Sat 16-Nov-13 19:13:26

FushandChups, agreed! Ooh, and I agree with Darcey, I like the bad boy Ashley. Though DH has pointed out his waxed chest does tend to ruin the scruffy rough cowboy look.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 16-Nov-13 19:13:34

I used to think Monkseal exaggerated, but seriously, another knee slide?!

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 19:13:53

I loved that as Ashley is my favourite and he seemed to get better as the dance went on.. he just didn't come across that butch to start with!

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 19:16:30

Oh for goodness sakes Tess - her name is O-la not Oh-la! Grrrr

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 16-Nov-13 19:16:48

I think Sophie was unlucky going first...

Horsemad Sat 16-Nov-13 19:18:45

Agree about Tess's pronounciation Fush. Very annoying!

JaneEyresHeir Sat 16-Nov-13 19:19:37

I know Fush - every time with the Oh-la!

IHadADreamThatWasNotAllADream Sat 16-Nov-13 19:19:56

Well you can say one thing for Hollyoaks - it's clearly made Ashley immune to embarrassment. For what looked like an obviously stupid gimmicky concept that was a triumph by Ola.

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 19:19:56

Fionas dress is VILE! Brown shock

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 16-Nov-13 19:20:29

She's been working with her for, what, 7 series!

Horsemad Sat 16-Nov-13 19:21:04

Fiona looks like she's forgotten her steps.

Ooof some of those lifts were awkward.

AndiMac Sat 16-Nov-13 19:21:26

Fiona definitely lost concentration by the end. Anton still looks good in ballroom.

JaneEyresHeir Sat 16-Nov-13 19:21:34

Brown dress - yeuch!

Gooseysgirl Sat 16-Nov-13 19:22:11

She really needs to go this week... the Anton popularity vote has been keeping her in

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 19:22:14

Fiona's dress is VILE! Even Bruce commented on it..shock

She clearly wasn't comfortable in those lifts either

JaneEyresHeir Sat 16-Nov-13 19:22:47

'Where's me handbag?' grin

Horsemad Sat 16-Nov-13 19:23:10

Len was rude saying Anton needed a block & tackle for the lifts shock

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 19:23:48

You're right Goosey - think her time has come..

I know some people don't like him, but if you want to see Ballroom danced beautifully and effortlessly there is no better male dancer on this show than Anton.

Horsemad Sat 16-Nov-13 19:24:03

Dress not flattering either.

MrsBramleyApple Sat 16-Nov-13 19:28:12

Whats up with Aleash's eye? Do we think Mr Crouch punched him??? wink

JaneEyresHeir Sat 16-Nov-13 19:29:26

Used to love watching Anton and Erin do ballroom, but for me he's not up to his usual standard this series.

AndiMac Sat 16-Nov-13 19:29:38

This song so does not fit the dance.

Pan Sat 16-Nov-13 19:29:54

That was utterly fab.

Horsemad Sat 16-Nov-13 19:30:01

Loved Abbie's dance.

Pan Sat 16-Nov-13 19:30:28

yes the song was pretty challenging.

AndiMac Sat 16-Nov-13 19:30:58

Oh, yes, let me be clear, I thought the dancing was great for Abby, just it didn't match the song very well.

OodaresingingoftheDoctorDonna Sat 16-Nov-13 19:31:11

I think Fiona has peaked now

Craig is right, there was a lot of gapping in that dance.

Horsemad Sat 16-Nov-13 19:31:30

JaneEyresHeir Sat 16-Nov-13 19:31:45

Great dance - she's definitely a contender!

FamiliesShareGerms Sat 16-Nov-13 19:31:45

Careful Bruno, no swearing here....

FushandChups Sat 16-Nov-13 19:32:01

I just don't get Abby & Alijaz really - that was nice but found my mind wandering halfway through which is ridiculous as it was to Walking on Sunshine which is a great song (although the singer went a little odd in places!)

sick of all the pantomime booing
oh and Bruno "cut the crap" oh dear sure you were hoping the muc wouldnt pick that up.
