The All New TENNIS Thread. For those with Sky and those without.

IAmNotLouise Thu 19-Sep-13 11:01:37

Accidentally filled up the last thread without realising.

Have the day off today so can sit and watch the tennis scores update.

We still have tennis tennis too.

Raahh Thu 19-Sep-13 11:24:19

Phew! i panicked then.

The Louise threads were bonkers grin

IAmNotLouise Thu 19-Sep-13 11:32:15

I doubt they're actually real but threads like the Louise threads are why I love Mumsnet. And why I'm glad I'm no longer teaching grin

JuanPotatoTwo Thu 19-Sep-13 14:52:02

Phew, nice new thread! Couldn't sleep last night, and one of the many things running through my mind was to remember to mention the thread was getting full - should have known you lot would have been on to it!

NotLouise (seems odd not writing "Clay"!), I'm sorry to hear you have CFS. I did twig what it was not long after I posted, and was thinking how difficult it must be for you, so debilitating. Hope things aren't too hard for you, you always sound so upbeat in your posts. X

Raahh, your send off into student life sounds, um, interesting? That must have been one hell of a journey, poor you!

Such shite weather here, had the heating on this morning and it's only September. I'm looking forward to Shanghai, but more so to the ATP tour finals (think I mentioned on old thread I have tickets?). I wish there was a way to pick who you could watch though. Still, I suppose whoever we see, they won't be too shabby!

What's the 'Louise' thing about- have I missed something yet again?!

IAmNotLouise Thu 19-Sep-13 15:05:31

It might have been a bit of an optimistic possible diagnosis on the part of my GP tbf and I'm don't think even she is sure. I suspect most of the fatigue comes from the depression/hypothyroidism/occasional anaemia. I am lucky in that it's not too bad and I am OK as long as I pace myself.

This was the first 'Louise thread. Followed by This one. Pretty obvious troll I think but still funny. Don't google 'fumming' though.

JuanPotatoTwo Thu 19-Sep-13 17:44:24

Sounds like you have a lot to deal with Louise, lots of luck to you. And thanks for the links to the Louise threads smile

So it seems Andy is to have minor back surgery then and may be out of action for the rest of the season.

Raahh Thu 19-Sep-13 18:34:00

Juan- I am very envious of your ATP tickets. Mind you, points wise- only 4 have qualified so fargrin Fed might make it there after all, which had been looking doubtful, especially if there are injuries higher up the rankings. Although, if he does badly there, it must surely make him think about retirement? (He's won it a few times, hasn't he?).

And definitely no googling of fumming, Juan !

IAmNotLouise Thu 19-Sep-13 20:05:17

He has to start thinking about retirement soon surely. For some reason I can't really see him as the sort of player who keeps on playing as he slides down the rankings. I imagine him as the sort of player who wants to go out at the top.

ClayDavis Thu 19-Sep-13 20:29:55

Right, I'm back.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 20-Sep-13 15:47:15

Potato has confirmed he'll play Shanghai and Tokyo - his wrist must be ok, phew.

Nice to have you back Clay, I didn't see you as a Louise! And I won't google fumming. Goes off to google fumming

ClayDavis Fri 20-Sep-13 18:23:19

My sister is called Louise. But I don't think it suits me.

Tsonga is on court now. Looks like it's going with serve in the first set.

ClayDavis Fri 20-Sep-13 18:24:03

[tennis] [tennis] [tennis] [tennis]

It's gone sad

Raahh Fri 20-Sep-13 18:49:45

why? what harm was it doing?

Raahh Fri 20-Sep-13 18:52:01

for some reason thanks is now on the list twice.hmm

Allez Tsonga!

Go Del Potato!

ClayDavis Fri 20-Sep-13 18:54:47

He lost the first set. Come on Tsonga.

Raahh Sat 21-Sep-13 14:29:01

Aww, Simon is beating Mahut. I like Mahut. After 'that' match against Isner, he always comes across as a proper fighter. And a pretty good doubles player too.

Raahh Sat 21-Sep-13 14:31:04

Raahh Sat 21-Sep-13 14:33:55

Raahh Sat 21-Sep-13 17:53:14

Tsonga and Simon in the final.

Don't know much about Metz- is it a French only thing, or is that just a coincidence?

ClayDavis Sat 21-Sep-13 18:06:07

Just a coincidence I think. Although 3 of the 4 semi-final players were French.

Hi, I copied and pasted the above list from the MTF forum, just out of interest really. Hope you're all having good weekends.

Raahh Sat 21-Sep-13 19:03:38

Hi Juan-ok weekend here. Mostly spent trying to buy dd2 birthday presents on a shoesstring. sad

But homework has been done with no stress (or me) involvedgrin

ClayDavis Sat 21-Sep-13 19:25:42

OK weekend here too. Managed to get hooked on some BBC drama so that's the evening sorted. Cold has gone too.

Glad to hear about the homework, Raahh.

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 21-Sep-13 21:24:13

Glad homework is done, have that to look forward to tomorrow!

Looks like we're on our own now - will we get brownie points and tennis tickets come the revolution?!

ClayDavis Sat 21-Sep-13 21:29:44

I bloody hope so.

I might settle for [tennis] back though.

Raahh Sat 21-Sep-13 23:59:47

I have a (totally unfounded wine fuelled theory re- the demise of the [tennis]).

It was still there until Murray announced his surgery. Then- pfft. Because obviously no Murray= no[tennis]. hmm

I am probably wrong, but I like a conspiracy theorygrin

ClayDavis Sun 22-Sep-13 00:19:09

I like a good conspiracy theory too. That theory works for me.

Raahh Sun 22-Sep-13 00:25:23

ClayDavis Sun 22-Sep-13 00:34:20

[tennis] [tennis]

ClayDavis Sun 22-Sep-13 13:05:33

So, It's finals day. Allez Tsonga.

ClayDavis Sun 22-Sep-13 14:47:18

It' not looking good for Tsonga.

Raahh Sun 22-Sep-13 15:32:16

Poor Tsonga.

Still, well done Simon, and at least Jo-Willy is back in the saddle.
Next week, Ferrer/Wawrinka are in action in Kuala Lumpur, and Berdych/Gasquet in Bangkok.

Not on their own, obviously. grin

Raahh Mon 23-Sep-13 09:38:19

I am having trouble making sense of the Malaysian open site. I might look later when I'm more awake.grin

ClayDavis Mon 23-Sep-13 22:42:15

Did you have any luck with the Malaysian Open site, Raahh? As far as I can make out today was qualifiers and the first round proper starts tomorrow.

JuanPotatoTwo Mon 23-Sep-13 23:11:16

What were you looking for on the Malaysian site Raahh? Can we help? I'm wildly excited - I've just discovered that fans can go and watch practice sessions at the ATP finals!! They haven't published the training schedule yet, and I've no idea where the sponsors village is in the O2 - but these are obstacles I can surmount!

ClayDavis Mon 23-Sep-13 23:20:34

Do you need tickets? Otherwise that sounds like an obstacle I can surmount.

Having posting issues tonight. Not sure if this will post or not.

JuanPotatoTwo Mon 23-Sep-13 23:24:47

I don't think so Clay. This is all the info I've got at the moment:

ClayDavis Mon 23-Sep-13 23:38:41

That's just after I get back from holiday so not sure if I'll be able to get more time off work or back up to London.
BUT turns out I'll be in Istanbul for the WTA finals. That might work if I can get tickets.

Raahh Tue 24-Sep-13 09:55:10

Well, I finally managed to get my internet to stop playing up.

I like time difference, it means that when I get up, matches are nearly starting or in progress. Much more civilised than US time scalesgrin.

I gave up on yesterday, as I was stupidly tired, and dh was off- so ended up going for a 4 hour 'nap' grin. I obviously needed it.

malaysia order of play

Ferrer on later vamos !

ClayDavis Tue 24-Sep-13 10:05:09

Sadly, I will be at work, sitting around doing nothing with no internet.

Have found tickets for the WTA tour finals. They're quite reasonably priced at 30-70 Turkish Lira for the first 3 days which is about £9-£20

Raahh Tue 24-Sep-13 12:43:14

ok- now I'm confusedconfused

the order of play seems to be for the 25th?

I know they are ahead of us time wise, but what happened to the order of play for today?

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 24-Sep-13 14:43:02

That's exciting Clay - the fact you have Istanbul tickets, not the fact you can't make O2 practice sessions.

Raahh - glad you got a well earnt nap, I reckon one of those every day for the next few months will see you right!

I can't find the order of play for today either.

ClayDavis Tue 24-Sep-13 17:51:15

Got the tickets. Right at the front grin. Might need to remember to take ear plugs with me. Hopefully won't get shrieky.

ClayDavis Tue 24-Sep-13 22:37:15

Tomorrow's order of play.

Raahh Wed 25-Sep-13 14:31:30

Ferrer safely through -vamos!

ClayDavis Wed 25-Sep-13 21:13:47

Vamos Ferrer. Looks like Berdych and Gasquet are doing well in Bangkok as well.

JuanPotatoTwo Thu 26-Sep-13 16:50:49

That's exciting Clay about the tickets.

Wawrinka and Benneteau both through in Malaysia. I was looking at the availability of tickets for the gala after the ATP finals - tables available for £400/head! Any takers?!

JuanPotatoTwo Thu 26-Sep-13 19:25:30

Aww, Djok and Jelena engaged!

Raahh Thu 26-Sep-13 19:42:07

I know- 8 years they've been together. And 100 weeks at number 1- so a good week for Novakgrin

JuanPotatoTwo Thu 26-Sep-13 20:51:27

Think we'll be invited to the wedding?!

ClayDavis Thu 26-Sep-13 21:07:37

Of course we will. Why wouldn't we be? wink

I reckon I can get more tickets for about £6-8 each on another night so might get 2 nights of tennis watching in. Luckily my Dad's a huge tennis fan so he won't mind driving to the other side of the city to watch. Why is watching sports not this cheap in the UK?

Raahh Fri 27-Sep-13 10:33:30

I may not be a Djoko fan- but I'll go to the wedding. Will Nadal be there? grin[tennis]

Friday order of play, Malaysia

At least I think it is- the site has got me so confused this week, it could be for a week on Wednesdaygrin

ClayDavis Fri 27-Sep-13 10:51:51

Ferrer should be OK. Wawrinka's got the harder draw.

I need to stop playing the Google doodle and do something.

Raahh Fri 27-Sep-13 11:39:48

the google doodle has reminded me dd1 wanted to get her sister a pinata for her birthday. I am not sure it is such a good idea grin.

Raahh Fri 27-Sep-13 13:41:16

Nooooooo! Ferrer has lost sad

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 27-Sep-13 16:49:21

Poor Ferrer. Delbonis out too. What shall we wear to the wedding? Think Potato will be there?!

Raahh Fri 27-Sep-13 16:53:20

We will need to wear hats. In the shape of [tennis]. And Wimbledon purple and green. We will look ridiculous very smartgrin

I think Potato should go. To makeup for getting beaten in the Wimbledon semi, its only fairgrin

Raahh Fri 27-Sep-13 16:54:07

Stan is through at least. [tennis]

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 27-Sep-13 17:00:19

This from Potato's FB page:

Después de un viaje eterno, llegamos a Tokyo. Pregunté dónde quedaba el baño y me dijeron: "Leé los carteles", jaja.

After a long trip, we arrived in Tokyo. I asked for the bathroom and they said: "Read the sign," haha.

Followed by a picture of a big sign all in Japanese writing smile

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 27-Sep-13 17:03:39

Oh yes, purple and green very stylish not. And tennis racquet shaped handbags? Yes, least Djok could do is invite Potato. We'll bring our dc to distract any female companions Pot and Nadal may have with them and bob's your uncle!

Raahh Fri 27-Sep-13 17:32:31

grin @ Del Potato

Been reading up on the bloke who beat Ferrer-he speaks a lot of languages. Japanese does not seem to be amongst them thoughgrin

SadBadMadFat Fri 27-Sep-13 17:38:23

have you heard in the tennis news about Martina Hingis and her latest crime (after drugs/ adultery twice) ? aparantly her, her mum and mums boyfriend beatn up her estranged hubby.

cant link but its in google euosport tennis news.

ClayDavis Fri 27-Sep-13 17:56:04

Can I wear a tennis racket shaped fascinator?

I obviously jinxed Ferrer this morning. I'm going to stop giving any opinions on who might beat who or how easy somebody's draw is.

Not heard about hingis off to look now.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 27-Sep-13 18:13:41

You can wear anything you like Clay so long as it's green and/or purple.

Yes I'd heard about Hingis Sad, she's a bit of a one isn't she?!

Raahh Fri 27-Sep-13 18:25:26

shock @ Hingis. She always looked so sweet and innocent- when she was 14grin.

It does make you wonder about so much pressure at a very young age- the current trend for players maturing physically and mentally later is probably a healthier one. Jennifer Capriati didn't fare so well either.

ClayDavis Sat 28-Sep-13 11:34:47

Stan's out now too. [tennis]

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 28-Sep-13 18:34:40

Raonic beat Gasquet sad

Raahh Sat 28-Sep-13 19:06:37

Oh Stan[sad

and I'm still holding a grudge against Raonicgrin

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 28-Sep-13 19:39:13

Yes me too Raahh, I metaphorically spit when I hear/see his name!

What do you think happened to everyone else on these threads? Wonder how seize's course is going?

ClayDavis Sat 28-Sep-13 20:04:01

Keep wondering about seize haven't seen her around in ages.

Raahh Sun 29-Sep-13 21:11:32

ooh- Sousa, the one who beat Ferrer , won in Kuala Lumpur.

Raahh Mon 30-Sep-13 13:01:22

order of play for Tuesday, Beijing

Hewitt is in action at themoment, but I imagine his is one of the last matches, which is why Monday's schedule has already gone pfft.

Djoko, Nadal, Ferrer all in action Tuesday.

I love the court names in Beijinggrin

China is very much on my mind at the moment, as it is only 5 weeks tomorrow til ds goes. In fact, it would have been 2 weeks if they'd gone with the original dateshock

JuanPotatoTwo Mon 30-Sep-13 13:51:14

Tsonga, Dogsbollocksoff, Nieminin (may have a few too many 'n's and 'i's in there) and Almagro all through first round in Tokyo. Not q sure when Pot playing, off to check in a min. He's been very active on FB these last few days, it's a bit disconcerting cos it makes you feel as if you actually know him (if only!) Meant to ask earlier, did any of you read the diaries written by Thomas Drouet? He was Tomic's hitting partner, the one John Tomic assaulted. Those Tomics, esp Tomic Senior, are what you might call Not Nice.

Your ds is going to China Raahh? That's some school trip, better than the naff motor museum trips we used to go on. How long for? Bet he's excited (and that you're apprehensive - but he'll be fine! Not quite on the same level, but my 9yr old ds went on a PGL thing a couple of weeks ago or five days and did he miss us? Did he hell!)

Have headache today (which is assuredly not helped by being on here!) and want to hide under my duvet. Hope you're all ok.

JuanPotatoTwo Mon 30-Sep-13 13:54:23

So Pot is second match up on centre court tomorrow. First match starts at 11am (Tokyo time). His flight took 37 hrs with 4 hr stopover in London - if I'd have known he could've come here for his tea, bless him!

Raahh Mon 30-Sep-13 14:01:35

37 hours!!Poor Pot!

Yep, very nervous. He's only 10. It's all been very rushed, and huge amounts of fund raising has gone on to pay for it all. He's very excited, I keep thinking a few more years would have been bettergrin

We went to the Isle of man in my final year of primary. It rained, and I had a miserable time. grin

ClayDavis Mon 30-Sep-13 19:22:29

He'll have a great time, Raahh. A much better time than you will sat at home worrying about him. grin

We were supposed to go to France in year 6 but somehow ended up going to Jersey instead.

Rafa, Ferrer and Robson all playing in Beijing tomorrow.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 01-Oct-13 08:43:33

Pot through against Bagdhatis.

How long is ds going away for Raahh? And, yes, he will be fine, fab opportunity for him.

Raahh Tue 01-Oct-13 10:44:55

Just managing to sit down.

Yay! PotaTo!

Juan- he's going for 9 days. Which seems a bit long. They are staying for the most part at a school and also 2 days in Shanghai.

A group of us who have dcs going were all saying this morning that whilst the kids are very excited, we are all just wishing it was overgrinI'm also very conscious of making sure dd1 doesn't feel left out, since she will be at school whilst he's away. Plus the likelihood of a family holiday any time in the next few years in nil (unless we win the lotterygrin).

Nadal looking safe against Giraldo. Vamos grin

Raahh Tue 01-Oct-13 12:57:27

Aww, Djoko and Stan are playing doubles together.

That's nicegrin

ClayDavis Tue 01-Oct-13 19:12:14

ATP live rankings now has Nadal as number 1 and Djok as number 2. grin

JuanPotatoTwo Wed 02-Oct-13 07:47:18

Pot through second round against Berlocq in two sets smile

Horrible damp morning here, hope it's better where you are.

Raahh Wed 02-Oct-13 09:53:10

yay! Potato!

Hewitt out though, Nadal playing later I think? I think that's today's schedulegrin

miserable and wet here too. And my boots have sprung a leakgrin

JuanPotatoTwo Wed 02-Oct-13 12:36:46

Tsonga out to Dodig. Rafa winning.

Raahh Wed 02-Oct-13 12:56:55

ohsad poor Tsonga.

Vamos Rafa2!

JuanPotatoTwo Wed 02-Oct-13 14:01:47

So Pot playing Dogsbollocksoff next! Unfortunately, Raonic also through! Wish we could watch some of these matches.

Raahh, if you're boots are leaking the only answer is new boots!

SadBadMadFat Wed 02-Oct-13 17:20:13

Nalbandian has just announced his retirement.

shame his last well known match was THAT one at Queens.

ClayDavis Wed 02-Oct-13 18:11:40

Just seen that on the BBC site, sad.

Glad Rafa's won. Hopefully Ferrer will win tomorrow too.

JuanPotatoTwo Wed 02-Oct-13 19:08:42

Yes, i heard that too, i expect he will forever be remembered as the man who injured a linesman (Not condoning his behaviour at all - it was pretty disgraceful - but i couldnt help thinking at the time that the linesman did milk it a bit).

I wandered into a branch of Age Concern this morning to look at the books. There was a copy of Andre Agassi's autobiography there. Never been an Agassi fan but the book was only £1.50 so I bought it. I've only read the first 30 pages so far but it's actually really good!

SadBadMadFat Wed 02-Oct-13 19:16:31

Agassi admits to drugs doesn't he In that book? and during his stay at the top too?

If that's true then why wasn't he stripped of his titles like Lance armstorng was?

and yy agree linesman milked it.

JuanPotatoTwo Wed 02-Oct-13 19:38:21

Oh does he Sad? Haven't got that far yet, but he does go on in first chapter about the excruciating pain he was in cos of his back.

SadBadMadFat Wed 02-Oct-13 19:41:13

haven't actually read the book but I vaguely remember an interview when the book came out and he mentioned something.

let us know when/if you get to that bit!

ClayDavis Wed 02-Oct-13 19:53:21

A quick google seems to show it was crystal meth he admitted to using in his autobiography.

I think we discussed drugs a bit on the last thread. I don't think tennis has quite got to the stage that cycling had in 2004ish where they realise they have to clean up the sport because its becoming a bit of a joke. The ATP are still burying their heads in the sand a bit wrt drugs and aren't really that interested in trying to get to the bottom of the problem yet.

SadBadMadFat Wed 02-Oct-13 19:57:58

but clay what about now with Cilic and Troiki

what about those in the past the? including Hingis too.

and wasn't Greg Rusetski in trouble once for that?

ClayDavis Wed 02-Oct-13 20:13:08

They are starting to do something. I think the drug testing regime has been tightened up in the last year, hence Cilic and Troiki. It just hasn't reached the stage of a major clear up.

I do think they will get there. How much of a problem there is and how widespread it is remains to be seen. It might be that it is quite isolated. I think that at the point the autobiography was released there was less of a will to poke around and see what was happening.

ClayDavis Wed 02-Oct-13 20:48:03

Balls. Got to addicted to the drugs in tennis story. Forgot about dinner. Any tips for clearing smoke quickly?

JuanPotatoTwo Wed 02-Oct-13 20:56:55

Open the windows? Or better yet, call the fire brigade?!

Was reading up a bit on the Cilic drug thing -apparently, he sent his mum out to buy the supplements! Seems like me and Mrs Cilic get blamed by our ds's for everything that goes wrong!

ClayDavis Wed 02-Oct-13 21:05:18

Windows all open, fire brigade not needed fortunately. No fire just very smokey and highly over sensitive alarm system. As its connected to all 7 flats in the building I'm very popular this evening. At least I know it works some one usually sets it off about once a week and it hasn't gone off all summer.

I thought I'd read it was his coach he sent out for the supplements. His mum would make more sense. I still think you'd read the ingredients though.

ClayDavis Wed 02-Oct-13 22:12:32

Smoke is gone. Alarm is reset. My poor clean laundry though. sad. I'm going to go to work smelling like a BBQ tomorrow.

Raahh Thu 03-Oct-13 09:44:30

Nadal through, Djoko given a bit of a scare in the second set of his match, but seemingly back on track in the third.

Clay- hope your clothes aired a bit!grin

i hate it when I burn toast which i do often , it really is a smell that lingers. Not a bad smell, but once you've eaten the charred remains, you don't want reminding you should have checked the toaster settingsgrin

(I like crumpets very well done, an then forget to change the dial when doing dd1's toast. Nearly very daygrin).

Raahh Thu 03-Oct-13 09:53:18

and Stan is outsad

ClayDavis Thu 03-Oct-13 11:11:54

It was my own fault. I thought I'd managed to fix the dodgy timer on the microwave. Apparently not. If it had just turned off after 10 mins it would have been OK. I should have just put it in the oven instead I would have been thinking about it then.

The downside to all the internal doors being fire doors is that you can fill the kitchen with smoke and not realise it. I think I need to air out the flat before I air out the clothes.

Poor Stan.

Hope everybody elses's weather is better than here It's dark and monsson like at the moment.

ClayDavis Thu 03-Oct-13 11:12:16

elses's hmm

JuanPotatoTwo Thu 03-Oct-13 14:31:23

Raonic (boo, hiss), Almagro and Nishikori through. Lopez out.

Well done Rafa and Djok. Djok has things other than tennis on his mind - he's wondering if he should wear a green and purple tie and waistcoat to match our wedding outfits!

The Cilic thing - his mum bought them and Cilic scanned the ingredients list through to his coach apparently.

Clay - don't be reading anything on here tonight until you've had your dinner!

JuanPotatoTwo Thu 03-Oct-13 14:37:41

What is your best guess re tomorrow's scheduling? There are three matches on before Pot plays, the first of which starts at 11am Tokyo time (3am here). Bearing in mind they're three setters, what do you think would be the approximate time of Pot's match kicking off? I might try to watch it if the timing is good.

By the way, read a bit more of the Agassi book last night - Blimey, his Dad wasn't half hard on him!

Raahh Thu 03-Oct-13 15:07:51

I still haven't got over the revelation ( think it was during the French open) that ferrer's coach use to lock him in a cupboard!grin[shock

Not sure about the schedule. I can't seem to time it right at all.
And - just in time for the school run - it is absolutely tipping it down here. But really warmconfused

JuanPotatoTwo Thu 03-Oct-13 17:02:04

It's always tipping it down for the school run, it's the law you know.

ClayDavis Thu 03-Oct-13 17:53:53

I think you've got the weather we had this morning, Raahh. The road was pretty much turned into a river and I was soaked by the time the bus arrived. So I've now done fire and flood. The world is ending isn't it?

Dinner tonight is going in the oven. If it's in the oven I will remember that it needs taking out and won't just turn off.

ClayDavis Thu 03-Oct-13 22:28:07

Not sure about the schedule. I would think somewhere between about 7.30 and 9. I'm not sure that narrows it down much for you though.

Raahh Thu 03-Oct-13 22:53:43

grin @ the world ending.

I'm building an Ark.

ClayDavis Thu 03-Oct-13 23:12:07

Seriously Raahh, there's only famine and pestilence left. Although if I can't clear the revolting smell of smoke and burnt plastic from the flat and the rest of the building I'll take the end of the world. Google seems to think white vinegar and bicarb will do the trick. I'm not convinced.

Raahh Fri 04-Oct-13 09:52:40

Clay white vinegar and bicarb sounds very Kim and Aggie- they seemed to use it for everything[grin

Nadl through to the semi's in Beijing, Dogsbollocks is serving for the set against Potato- c'mon Potato!

ClayDavis Fri 04-Oct-13 10:19:21

Oh no Dogsbollocks has taken the first set. Vamos Del Potato.

I'm not sure the vinegar helped. After leaving bowls of vinegar out overnight it now smells of burnt with a slight undertone of vinegar. I'm not sure the liberal sprinkling of bicarb on the carpets has done anything.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 04-Oct-13 11:21:41

Yay, just watched Potato win, had me worried for a bit there. The crowd are very quiet and so many empty seats, wish we could get to Tokyo!

If Pot and Raonic both win tomorrow, they could face each other in the final - that could prove interesting!

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 04-Oct-13 11:23:02

Clay, what about good old Febreeze?

ClayDavis Fri 04-Oct-13 11:24:46

Del Potato has won. That brings him within 5 points of Berdych in the rankings.

If I'm reading the live rankings right, if Rafa wins his semi final in Beijing then he's guaranteed the official number 1 spot on Monday because Djok can't than overtake him on points even if he wins the tournament.

ClayDavis Fri 04-Oct-13 11:32:43

It's been Febreezed to within an inch of its life. It's fine for a while but then starts to break through again. I think it is getting better though. I may have to do a very thorough spring clean over the weekend and do the walls and shampoo the carpets. It's possible the vinegar is actually helping.

Raahh Fri 04-Oct-13 12:52:57

sad Ferrer lost.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 04-Oct-13 14:00:52

sad for Ferrer. You have to admire his "hang on in there and give it my best shot" attitude.

Clay What about adding few drops of tea tree oil or orange/lemon oil to the water when wiping stuff down?

ClayDavis Fri 04-Oct-13 17:33:10

sad for Ferrer. Just come in from work. Surprisingly the vinegar is actually working. Definitely smells more of vinegar than it does of burning now.

Lessons have been learnt - 1) don't set fire to the microwave, 2) its a bloody stupid idea to have a smoke detector on the other side of a fire door to things that are actually likely to catch fire. Whichever member of the fire service suggested that needs their head checking. 3) white vinegar is surprisingly useful.

SadBadMadFat Fri 04-Oct-13 18:21:42

theyre saying if rafa gets to final hell be number one again. what about if Djoko gets there too and wins? doesn't he retain his number 1 status?

Im getting interested in the andre story now! keep us updated!

ClayDavis Fri 04-Oct-13 18:36:31

If the ATP live rankings is right (which it usually is) and I understand it correctly:

If Rafa wins his semi final he will have 11160 points. Even if Djok gets to the final and wins the tournament he can only get a maximum of 11120 points. The only way Djok can retain the number 1 spot is if Rafa loses the semi final and Djok wins the final. If Rafa loses his semi and Djok gets into the final but loses I think Rafa still ends up as number 1.

SadBadMadFat Fri 04-Oct-13 19:03:11

thanx. confusing though grin.

does anyone think Andy will go to the O2 or concentrate for th e Ausse open?

ClayDavis Fri 04-Oct-13 19:25:27

This is the link to the live rankings. It might make more sense then.

Have no idea about Andy. I suppose it depends on how well his recovery is going.

SadBadMadFat Fri 04-Oct-13 19:38:24

no your explanation wasn't confusing, the ranking points system is!

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 05-Oct-13 11:24:28

Pot and Raonic in the final!

I think Andy should give O2 a miss, back surgery's surely got to take some time to recover properly from?

Finished Agassi's book, it was a really good read! The drugs thing - he had a friend from school who he employed as a sort of PA, and it was this guy who gave it to him. He took it a few times, willingly and knowingly but when one of his urine test came back positive he wrote a letter of appeal, saying that this guy must have spiked his soft drinks. The ATP believed him and that was the end of that!

Raahh Sat 05-Oct-13 11:32:44

Hopefully Pot can get revenge for Raonic's cheating antics. I'd be very wary of him, if I was Juan!grin

I want to read the Agassi book nowgrin it was one I didn't bother with when it was released - some sporting autobiographies are a bit crap. I did love Brad Gilbert's 'Winning Ugly' though- in fact it's one that Dh has read to get tips on training his softball team.

Has Berdych retired fromhis match? The scoreline on the ATP site suggests the match is over, although it's 4-2 Rafa in the first setconfused ?

ClayDavis Sat 05-Oct-13 11:37:08

The protennis site says 'Nadal winner by retirement'. The match was about 30mins. Djok/Gasquet is on after 7.30pm but have no idea what time that is in the UK.

Berdych's retirement means del Potato moves up a place in the rankings to 5th. He has a long way to go to catch Ferrer though.

Raahh Sat 05-Oct-13 11:38:52

Yep- seems Berdych has retired with a back injury- Rafa is number 1,which given he has been by a long way the best player this year, is as it should be, imo. grin

ClayDavis Sat 05-Oct-13 11:41:07

Vamos. I was just thinking I completely forgot to mention that. Talked about it last night but he is number 1 again now.

Not surewhat's happened to Djok recently. He hasn't been the same player since Wimbledon.

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 05-Oct-13 13:16:44

No, like I said Djok has other things on his mind these days! China is seven hours ahead of us, Japan eight hours. Glad Rafa at number one again, and glad Pot has moved up to number 5. Wonder how he's going to feel facing Raonic tomorrow.

Raahh, if you want to pm me your address I'll send you the Agassi book.

ClayDavis Sat 05-Oct-13 13:41:28

Does Raonic have any idea about how much more he is going to be disliked on here if he beats Potato tomorrow?

Raahh Sat 05-Oct-13 14:13:17

Clay- he will be quivering in his trainers, I'm suregrin

Juan- that is very kind. I have got dh to put it on my kindle. He says he got it free. I didn't ask questions. grin

ClayDavis Sat 05-Oct-13 14:36:37

Schedule is out. Djok/Nadal final is at 9am tomorrow morning.

Raahh Sat 05-Oct-13 14:52:51

Vamos- I've probably got to take the dcs swimming, so Rafa had better win whilst I'm outgrin

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 05-Oct-13 15:00:22

No problem Raahh, let me know if it doesn't materialise!

Is that 9am our time Clay? Might watch it if so.

Raonic better be nice (and lose!) to our Pot, or else we'll have to take drastic measures. Not sure what these will be yet, sure we can think of something suitable though.

ClayDavis Sat 05-Oct-13 15:10:41

yes sorry, 9am UK time. You can do it while you're supervising the redoing of homework wink.

I'm off to do battle with Lidl on a Saturday. I must be mad.

Raahh Sat 05-Oct-13 15:17:33

Juan- will do!

We have already ventured into the hell that is our local Asda. I got myself a pizza- double jalpenos, and chilli cheese. I am guaranteed to get to eat this alonegrin <glutton>

SadBadMadFat Sat 05-Oct-13 19:44:35

Huh, o Andre actually admitted it to allin hs book yet the ATP Still don't 'do an Armstrong' and take away his wins/medals?????

Ill never forget that Olympics final, his behaviour made Macenroe look like the pope. poor Sergi Bruguera on the other sideof the net.

SadBadMadFat Sat 05-Oct-13 19:58:08

sorry, having a rant there ijust think theres a lot of favouritism in various sports and too many people get away with it while others don't.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 06-Oct-13 09:08:36

Our man's a winner. smile

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 06-Oct-13 09:11:11

Sad, would you like the book? I'm not trying to get rid of it, promise, but it was a good read, and you sound interested. Happy to send it to you if so.

Raahh Sun 06-Oct-13 10:41:45

Oh crapsad

Nadal lost, but hurrah for Del Potato!

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 06-Oct-13 10:58:39

Aw never mind, he's still number one which may be just as important to him as winning the title. It's only a 500-er as well. Hope the win has restored some confidence to Djok though.

So, we're off to Shanghai now then!

Raahh Sun 06-Oct-13 11:14:52

I don't think Djok has been playing too badly- it just shows what a difference having an in-form injury free Nadal does to the field. Ending the year as number 1 will certainly be a biggie, especially considering how far he's come this year.

Yay- Shanghai.

(ds will be there this time next month- eek!).

SadBadMadFat Sun 06-Oct-13 17:11:08

Juan thank you so much, thats very sweet of you, but it's okay. i dont like Agassi, was just wondering about the whole drugs thing.

Well done Delpo and Djoko. Shanghai tomorrow. wierd without Murray atm. Is Fed playing there? hes always done well there.

Raahh Sun 06-Oct-13 17:17:43

Fed is scheduled to play Shanghai- in fact only Murray and Janowicz aren't playing, out of the top 25.

I hope he does ok, and ends the year on a reasonable high.

Raahh Mon 07-Oct-13 12:55:15

(purely to stop this falling off my TIO listgrin)

JuanPotatoTwo Mon 07-Oct-13 17:00:08

Monfils, Haas and Isner through. I'm glad Haas beat Querry - despite knowing next to nothing about him, I have an irrational dislike of the man!

My Dd and her boyfriend went to Florida yesterday. I'm jealous - but only a little bit, because they went with my Dm and DS-Dad! Who can be quite demanding to put it mildly!

ClayDavis Mon 07-Oct-13 22:50:25

Ferrer has overtaken Murray for 3rd spot. Not really surprising since Murray isn't playing at the moment. Dan Evans is up to 149 from about 155 though. We now have 2 players in top 150 - clearly we're heading for world domination. wink

Only 4 working days left before I go to Istanbul. Sadly, Sharapova has pulled out so I will no longer need my ear plugs with me.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 08-Oct-13 12:38:48

That's exciting Clay, are you looking forward to it? How long are you going for?

Nishikori has taken first set off Dimitrov.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 08-Oct-13 13:20:57

Dimitrov out.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 08-Oct-13 13:49:04

Przysiezny - Raonic now. Would like Raonic to lose but other guy is only ranked 129. Would like to hear the commentators get their tongues round his name!

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 08-Oct-13 13:53:50

Ok, so I know I'm biased, but Raonic has just done one of those ( perfectly legal but Not Very Gentlemanly) hits straight at his opponent. Hmmph.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 08-Oct-13 14:13:49

Bah, Raonic won first set. Przysiezny good though, wouldn't have guessed his rank was so low just by watching this match.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 08-Oct-13 14:53:11

Raonic through.

Raahh Tue 08-Oct-13 17:51:49

So Gasquet is out and Raonic is through. Grr.

Dimitrov isn't quite living up to the hype, this year. He needs to ditch Shrieky and focusgrin

ClayDavis Tue 08-Oct-13 17:53:09

Am going for 2 weeks, Juan. My Dad lives there so I'm trying to make as much use of the free accommodation and his airmiles as possible. Hoping to do all the stuff I couldn't do when I was there in May/June because the riots kicked off.

Hoping it will still be warm and sunny so I can sit around by the pool a lot too.

Raahh Tue 08-Oct-13 18:00:23

I'd love to go to Istanbul. Was watching a documentary about the Ottomans the other night. It's a country with a fascinating history.

I've only been to holiday/touristy bits of Turkey. I saw a lot of turtles. grin

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 08-Oct-13 18:43:08

Sounds good Clay. Will your Dad spoil you a bit, or will it be the other way round?! I've been to Ephesus years ago, don't remember any turtles though!

Agree with you about Dimitrov Raahh, I really don't think he's going to live up to all those early expectations. He doesn't seem committed enough, and nowhere consistent enough. I do have bit of a soft spot for him though cos he looks like my Dd's boyfriend!

ClayDavis Tue 08-Oct-13 18:43:54

Have got the documentary saved on iplayer. It's on a very long list of things to watch. I love Istanbul, it's an amazing place to visit. Haven't done the touristy bits of the rest of Turkey yet. Might have to save that for another visit. Main aim this time is the Blue Mosque, the night time Bosphorous cruise I had to cancel last time and possibly getting a crown on my tooth done.

ClayDavis Tue 08-Oct-13 18:51:14

My Dad will spoil me a lot. It's his 60th while I'm there so I think it's supposed to be the other way round but I doubt he'll let me pay for anything however much I try.

Dimitrov's sort of doing the opposite of Dan Evans and getting less focused this year.

Did you manage to get the disappearing homework back, Juan.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 08-Oct-13 22:05:03

I gave up in a temper! Was faffing about and worrying so much whilst ds remained blissfully unaware and uninterested, that I stropped off upstairs!

Raahh Tue 08-Oct-13 22:27:37

ahh, giving up in a temper - I know it so well makes me look like Andy Murray, in spirit of the thread grin .

I hate homework. grin

ClayDavis Wed 09-Oct-13 00:41:55

Juan's come up with the perfect solution though. Run an iron over it and it all disappears. grin. I think your DS is only going to be able to get away with that excuse once though.

Raahh Wed 09-Oct-13 09:58:55

Del Potato through- didn't have an easy time of it, by the look of things. Djoko on now, and Nadal after 1pm, ourtime (i think, alhough the ATP site keeps saying Shanghai are the same time as us. I don't think they are!)

Raahh Wed 09-Oct-13 14:13:47

Nadal appears to be serving to win against Dogsbollocks, so that's good.

In 'least surprising news of the day', Murray has confirmed he won't be at the tour finals.

Raahh Wed 09-Oct-13 19:36:49

I'm having problems posting today

ClayDavis Wed 09-Oct-13 21:02:01

It's the penis beaker, Raahh. It's killed mumsnet. There's a line I'd never thought I'd say.

It's taken me this long to get on the thread.

ClayDavis Wed 09-Oct-13 21:38:07

This is getting silly now. It's taking about 10 minutes to load a page.

JuanPotatoTwo Thu 10-Oct-13 08:05:00

I gave up last night, did have fun on that thread though! I'm fascinated!

Potato through this morning. There was lots of talk about him not being too well yesterday hence the reason for him pulling out of the doubles so I'm pleased he got through again today. I also read an interview where he said words to the effect of he was missing his mum but he was a big boy now and could cope! I just wanted to offer my services as a surrogate mum and give him a big, er, cuddle.

Clay are you going tomorrow or Saturday?

Raahh Thu 10-Oct-13 09:56:07

yay! Potato.

Things not going so well for Federer, (but I have a soft spot for Monfils ,so am torn). And Ferrer down a set against Mayer.

Vamos! [tennis]

Raahh Thu 10-Oct-13 10:54:19

oh Ferrersad

Raahh Thu 10-Oct-13 11:48:21

And Federer is out.

Poor Federer. Nothing he has tried in the last 6 months has worked, really.

ClayDavis Thu 10-Oct-13 13:23:11

I think retiring is the only option for him at this point. The mens game is so strong at the moment he just cant compete.

I saw u having fun, juan. You were quoted in the buzzfeed story. Penis beaker has outed me as a MNer. Was talking about it at work on Tuesday came home yesterday to find the story everywhere.

JuanPotatoTwo Thu 10-Oct-13 13:55:46

Poor Roger, wonder how hard he finds it to accept that he will no longer easily get through to semis and finals of tournaments. Ferrer must have the willpower and mental mindset of a giant - he just picks himself up and keeps at it.

I was quoted Clay? Which one of my many questions did someone find worth repeating?! Hope the op of that thread is ok.

JuanPotatoTwo Thu 10-Oct-13 13:59:29

Nishikori and Berdych out. I'm a bit surprised at Berdych being out, maybe his back was playing up again. Rafa up 3-0 in first set. I find it so frustrating that we can't watch so much of the great tennis that goes on all year round.

JuanPotatoTwo Thu 10-Oct-13 15:47:01

Oh just realised that Potato didn't in fact play today cos Haas pulled out due to back injury. Extra day for him to tuck himself under his duvet and get better smile

JuanPotatoTwo Thu 10-Oct-13 15:55:17

Nadal through.

ClayDavis Thu 10-Oct-13 19:00:11

The fairy liquid one, Juan
I think the OP of the thread will be OK. MN have retrospectively name changed all her previous post. Unfortunately she's learnt a lesson about internet and personal security the hard way. I don't think she'll make that mistake again.

Poor Potato. I have some Lemsip left from the other week if he needs it.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 09:55:10

Potato through but he wasn't well sad He was coughing away, clutching his chest and, early on, he told the umpire he wasn't feeling good. Despite that, he played well but he didn't look happy, bless.

Tsonga also through.

Clay, hope you have a great holiday and get to watch some good tennis.

Raahh Fri 11-Oct-13 11:49:12

Poor Potatosad

but is Nadal get through, he will be Juan's next opponent. Dilemmagrin

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 12:33:25

When the players hand the towels back to the ball boys inbetween points - who says "thank you"? The players to the ball boys for receiving the towel back, or the ball boys to the players for handing the towel back? Or nobody to nobody cops all those thank you'd would extend the time of every match by about three hours?!

All of the above questions are of no importance whatsoever and are a good indication of the quality of thinking I frequently indulge in.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 12:34:54

Ooh Raahh, will we have to go on opposite sides again?! You know I like Nadal right? S'just I like Pot more!

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 12:36:33

Watching match between Djok and Monfils at mo, it's a good match. Monfils is playing really well and has taken the first set.

Raahh Fri 11-Oct-13 12:55:37

grin juan

I do not know about the towels, but it would be funny if they got stuck in a 'thank you', 'no, thank you' type situation. Well, funny in a 'Two Ronnies' sketch type way, I supposegrin

I suspect some players just gruntgrin.

Raahh Fri 11-Oct-13 12:56:13

C'mon Monfils!

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 13:04:27

That's exactly the sort of scenario I had in mind Raahh, was idly speculating on how many thank you's could be exchanged!

So Djok won second set, Monfils is knackered, and also possibly injured.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 13:12:46

Monfils has tiny ears!

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 13:13:46

Novak's turn to get a bit ratty now!

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 13:41:44

Novak through, both played well.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 13:44:33

Aw, you know this new thing where the winner signs the camera lens? Novak just wrote "love" in Chinese! When the bloody hell has he had time to learn Chinese - has apparently signed something different (in Chinese) all week.

Raahh Fri 11-Oct-13 13:46:40

he's a show offgrin

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 13:56:21

You're just well jell cos you can't write "Vamos" in Chinese (at least, I presume you can't!)

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 13:57:41

Ooh Nadal and Stan are doing warm up jumps behind the scenes - looks like they're trying to out jump each other!

Raahh Fri 11-Oct-13 14:08:25

Juan- no, I can't grin

Will get ds to figure it out during his trip.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 14:22:52

Shame he couldn't have had his trip this week - you could have made out you were one of those paranoid mums who wouldn't let their dc out of their sight (I do actually know of a woman who did this, her child was mortified and as never/will never got over it).

Anyway, once you got there you could then have let ds out of your sight or the entire trip, watched tennis and met them at the airport on way back.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 14:27:21

Ooh Stan's trainers are cool - shiny black and red. Sure it's not patent leather but look like they are!

D'ya think there could be an opening for me in tennis commentating? The other commentators could talk about back hands and top spins and lobs and tactics, and I could talk about shiny trainers, signing cameras, poorly players etc?

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 14:29:21

Nadal is doing that Elvis curly lip thing he does sometimes.

^ See, more evidence that there's a niche for me - not one of the match commentators has mentioned this.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 14:31:56

I keep getting Nadal mixed up with the ball boys - they're wearing same colours. Only way to differentiate is by looking to see which one has a racquet (am watching on a small screen in my defence).

Raahh Fri 11-Oct-13 14:34:21

I am enjoying your commentarygrin

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 14:50:48

Oh thank you. Can I convince someone to pay me to do this? I mean I can throw in the odd relevant comment if necessary like unforced errors, cross court volley, consistent serving etc, but I'm sure there's a market for the "oh poor love, he looks worried" type of comment too!

This is a good match - going with serve so far (relevant comment see?), 6-5 in first set to Stan.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 14:53:48

Nadal's trainers are nice too - pale blue and white. Similar colour to Pot's earlier!

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 14:54:47

But his top has a pattern on the back that makes it look like he's been spattered with mud.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 14:57:30

I have done bugger all this week today other than watch tennis and MN. Hope none of you mind my wittering on here, I realise it's probably very annoying for serious tennis fans. But I myself am a serious fan, just like to enjoy it as well as appreciate it.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 15:22:52

Nadal just won first set tiebreak 12-10.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 15:42:56

First set was good - took 73 minutes. But Nadal is running away with second set - it's 4-0 already.

Raahh Fri 11-Oct-13 15:53:17

ooh- Vamos!

Raahh Fri 11-Oct-13 15:54:21

Stan has definitely run out of steam, by the looks of the score line.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 15:54:49

Nadal wins 6-1 in second set.

ClayDavis Fri 11-Oct-13 16:02:31

I'm enjoying your commentary. Since there's only you me and Raahh on this thread I think it will be fine. If any very serious tennis fans turn up we csn deal with it then.

Raahh Fri 11-Oct-13 16:08:52

wittering on mn is what I do bestgrin

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 11-Oct-13 16:12:15

Thank you both smile Not many things I'm good at, bar wittering and sleeping. Since I can't practice much of the latter, I'm apt to indulge in the former.

Clay are you packing?

ClayDavis Fri 11-Oct-13 18:03:20

I was on the bus home from work at that point. You did make me laugh with your comment about only being able to tell which was Nadal by checking to see who had the racket.

Not packing. Trying to think of what, if anything I've forgotten.

ClayDavis Sat 12-Oct-13 09:05:38

Urgh. People downstairs had a loud party til 5am. Ihad to get up at 6.

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 13:40:44

Ooer, just started to watch match - rather surprisingly, Pot leading 4-0 in first set.

ClayDavis Sat 12-Oct-13 13:56:05

Is he playing nadal? Haven't kept up with the draw this week.

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 13:57:12

Rafa is sweating so much he looks like he's had a bucket of water poured over him.

He's heard me - he's changing his shirt!

ClayDavis Sat 12-Oct-13 14:01:53

Maybe he's coming down with whatever pot had. Best not send Cilic's mum to get some lozenges for him.

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 14:01:56

Pot won first set 6-2. Just served a brill game to seal it.

It's very stressful watching when you have a particular favourite!

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 14:02:47

Hi Clay, are you safely there?

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 14:04:21

Rafa has a very steely look in his eyes. Glad I'm not on other side of the net.

ClayDavis Sat 12-Oct-13 14:08:21

Am in gatwick. Have about 45 mins before we board. Bored stiff. Got on the train at 7.30 this morning.

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 14:13:13

Pale blue is obviously the colour - both sporting pale blue trainers, head and wristbands.

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 14:15:22

Just seen the most amazing point

Raahh Sat 12-Oct-13 14:16:46

it's very hard to watch the scores grin but if Nadal is going to lose to anyone, I'm happy with it being Potato. Just hope he's well enough to then win the final.

ClayDavis Sat 12-Oct-13 14:16:58

Oh. I'm wearing dark blue. Obviously I'm behind the times. Good to know what i should be wearing though.

Raahh Sat 12-Oct-13 14:17:49

Maybe he's coming down with whatever pot had. Best not send Cilic's mum to get some lozenges for him.

Clay- i just snorted at thisgrin

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 14:22:15

Bloody hell is all I have to say. People - you are missing the most incredible tennis. Sorry - not trying to rub it in, I'm just amazed at the level of play.

Raahh Sat 12-Oct-13 14:22:37

ClayDavis Sat 12-Oct-13 14:23:22

Meanwhile, in news from gatwick, someone is very late for their flight to dubai. The woman on the tannoy sounds quite irrate.

Am hoping for a good film on the flight. Not sure I can sit through jack reacher again.

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 14:33:36

Bleurch, hope they don't force Tom Cruise no you Clay. This is a great thread - we have live reporting from the north (I think), Gatwick and Shanghai!

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 14:34:58

Elvis lip from Nadal again.

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 14:37:57

I'm not complaining, I am really, but the screen keeps freezing for a millisecond, usually when the ball is mid flight, so you're left in suspense as to whether it's in or out

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 14:38:55

Verdasco in crowd, looking good in orange.

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 14:40:16

Pot is on fire. Needs to be I'll more often if this is what happens.

Raahh Sat 12-Oct-13 14:40:49

<waves from the North West>

I can't watch the tennis, but I can see Manchester airport from the end of the road.grin

Vamos- Nadal and Del Potatogrin

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 14:44:49

Nadal and the umpire are having a bit of a laugh. Unfortunately, it's in Spanish so don't know what about.

Raahh Sat 12-Oct-13 14:50:54

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 14:51:34

Nadal seems to be in a very good mood, lots of smiling.

Raahh Sat 12-Oct-13 14:52:00

though he needs to stop laughing and concentrate onthe fact he's about to lose.

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 14:55:14

Can't ever write him off Raahh, he seems to be super human sometimes

Raahh Sat 12-Oct-13 14:57:50

No, I never write him off. grin

But I hate it when it gets nailbiting. Sometimes 'just lose, already, and I can breath' is the only answergrin

Raahh Sat 12-Oct-13 15:01:17

sad for Nadal, but yay! Del Potato- now you just need to whup Djoko!

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 12-Oct-13 15:03:09

It sounds daft doesn't it when you say it's nerve wracking to watch, but it is. That was one of the best matches I've seen.

Raahh Sat 12-Oct-13 15:05:50

I'm glad it was good. Del Po has had a pretty good year- will be nice to see him end on a high. The US must have been a disappointment.

Raahh Sat 12-Oct-13 15:08:13

He could also be in with a chance of taking over as number 4 before the year ends, with Murray out of action.Go Potato!

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 08:24:11

Your man from Shanghai (that's me) reporting in early for the final.

Hope Clay has had safe trip and found some nice weather awaiting her. Raahh, enjoy swimming (said smugly from the comfort of my sitting room).

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 08:57:09

I wonder if there are any lurkers on this thread. Hard to believe in the whole of MN only three of us follow tennis. Would you like to say 'hi' any lurkers?!

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 09:18:07

Just watched a bit of the presentation ceremony or the doubles winners (Dodig/Verdasco) - that Verdasco sure is presentable!

ClayDavis Sun 13-Oct-13 09:29:01

Arrived safely and the weather is good. Have also found live tennis on Turkish TV.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 09:35:31

Oh lucky you - men's or women's. When are you going to watch? Are you MN-ing pool-side?! Players just come on court in Shanghai.

ClayDavis Sun 13-Oct-13 09:42:41

Both. Women's on Eurosport and men's on a Turkish channel but does have English commentary, fortunately.

Vamos Potato

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 09:43:04

They can't have many ball girls/boys to choose from, I've seen the same faces in all of the matches I've watched.

Here we go.

ClayDavis Sun 13-Oct-13 09:48:34

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 09:57:09

Oh dear, Pot's first service game and he's been broken.

ClayDavis Sun 13-Oct-13 10:00:19

I thought he was going to break back there.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 10:01:45

Me too.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 10:05:15

Ooh not sure I can watch.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 10:06:04

Oh dear.

ClayDavis Sun 13-Oct-13 10:06:32

Oh no. Maybe I shouldn't watch Potato play. I don't seem to be bringing him much luck.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 10:08:48

5-0 to Novak - match is running away from Pot.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 10:09:20

Is it your fault Clay?!

ClayDavis Sun 13-Oct-13 10:12:11

I think it might be. This is the first tennis I've watched since Wimbledon and it's not going well for him. Don't worry though, I'm about to go out for lunch.

ClayDavis Sun 13-Oct-13 10:15:23

Come on Potato.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 10:19:33

Ok don't like this. What must it be like to be Pot's mum watching this? Enjoy your lunch.

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 10:39:14

Oh no! This is the first time I've been able to get on as the Internet is playing up.

C'mon potato!!

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 10:41:31

God I've inadvertently been posting on a thread in chat.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 10:43:21

On phone to my dad - that's why Pot doing better cos I'm not concentrating on him.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 10:50:33

Well the spectre of Juan's mum has done the trick (hopefully).

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 10:52:59

I've just had to explain on the thread I've been wrongly posting on who Pot is! Maybe we can get him some new fans.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 10:59:14

Why does Djok do that thing where he opens his eyes really wide for a second or so I wonder. Is it to wake himself up or is it to do with his contact lenses?

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:03:21

Ooh ooh ooh, Pot must be really scared of his mum - just won second set. Phew.

magimedi Sun 13-Oct-13 11:05:07

I am lurking as can't watch!

Clay - are you in Turkey? If so I am vvvvvvvvvv jealous. My favourite country.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:05:27

Not sure my nerves can stand to watch third set you'll have to kill me to get me away from the screen

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:06:24

Oh hi magi. Yes Clay is in Turkey, don't talk to her! smile

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 11:11:19

Yay! Potato!

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:13:35

Now I like Djok but I have to say I'd be a bit wary meeting any of his team in a dark alley.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:21:45

Novak must be missing Jelena, he's very edgy.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:23:46

Pot's getting quite fired up himself here - nothing nasty, just cheering himself on and geeing himself up. It's good to see.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:27:44

Djok just lost his balance and fell. Pot asking him if he's ok.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:29:00

Pot is ON FIRE I tell you!

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 11:37:46

oooh, this is exciting. stares at screen

I am very grateful for your commentary ,Juan

Tokyo and Shanghai back to back would be a good result for Potato. And he's got a week off after this to feel better.

Come on Pot!!

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:37:55

Uh oh, Djok kicking the scoreboard.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:38:19

Pot rallying the crowd.

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 11:38:49

Oh dear, never a good sign when Djoko starts getting stroppy.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:39:45

Pot just held from 15-40. He's getting fired up.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:40:06

Pot just held from 15-40. He's getting so fired up.

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 11:40:13

C'mon Potato!!

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:42:13

Are you really Raahh? That's very nice of you to say so, but it's a pleasure believe me!

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 11:44:40

I am, Juan- it is better than just refreshing my scoresgrin

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:46:42

Aww, Pot giving the umpire puppy dog eyes smile Coming to end of time out and umpire said "you've got to speed up between points now". Pot said "I'm trying", umpire said "not good enough", and Pot said "not even after a long rally?" with the pleading eyes!

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:49:14

I'd be rubbish umpire, I'd have said "take as much time as you like love".

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:52:11

If this goes to a tb I'll have no nails left. It's 5-4 to Djok in third set, with serve. Pot has to keep holding now.

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 11:52:55

awww, Potato grin

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:55:11

Djok is made of rubber.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:57:00

Gulp. Three match points for Djok. Championship points actually.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:57:50

One saved

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 11:57:57

Ido think he has rubber ankles- I remember his semi at Wimbledon, I'm sure his feet should have snapped off the number of times he went over on his ankles.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:58:21

Phew, back to deuce.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 11:59:49

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:00:30

Djok doesn't like crowd cheering for Pot.

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 12:00:32

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:02:48

6-5 to Djok. Pot's going to have to do it all over again now.

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 12:05:13

Do they have a tie break in the final set of this?

C'mon Potato!!

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:07:17

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 12:14:54

oooh, c'mon!

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:16:10

Oh no. More championship points for Djok

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:16:57

All over. Djok won. Big hug at net.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:17:59

Pot sat with towel over his head, bless.

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 12:18:18

Good effort, Del Potato though, especially after being ill.

Djoko enjoying a year-end winning streak.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:19:23

Signing camera in Chinese again. Prob says "run the Hoover round Jelena, I'm on my way home".

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:20:25

Clay can come back from lunch now.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:21:33

Prize giving ceremony now.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:23:27

Pot sat all on his own in his chair in the dark. Some very important people being introduced now but the presenter is speaking Chinese at such a rate I have no idea who they are.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:24:10

There's a lot of them though.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:26:01

Pot up now. Shield looks like big silver record. Got nice bouquet of roses too. He looks upset.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:27:24

Ooer, Djok's trophy looks like a dangerous weapon. Neither of them know quite what to do with the little bouquets smile. Djok getting new watch.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:31:17

Pot about to speak. Getting big cheer. Congratulating Novak on beating him "once again" and telling him how proud of him he is! Thanking team and crowd. Thanking ball boys now. Now speaking in spanish to his fans!

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:32:59

Djok apologising to Pot for beating him. Pot saying something with a smile, Djok saying to Pot "yeah but what can I do?!". Hugging each other now!

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:35:04

Djok saying something in Chinese.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 12:37:29

Champagne time.

JuanPotatoTwo Sun 13-Oct-13 13:08:31

I've got that horrible end-of-tournament, wet-rainy-Sunday feeling. Where are we off to next week, just going to check.

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 13:10:37

awww,i liked the ceremony commentary.

I get the impression they genuinely like each other (you can usually spot the ones that really don't get on).

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 13:11:23

Don't think many of the big guns are out next week- Ferrer, maybe?

Basel week after.

Raahh Sun 13-Oct-13 13:13:29

back on European time though!

ClayDavis Sun 13-Oct-13 14:03:38

See, he does play better when I don't watch.

the [tennis] would have looked lovely with a wee hat. thlsad

JuanPotatoTwo Mon 14-Oct-13 18:45:42

Why have you name changed Raahh?! I am having homework traumas again. My 9yr old would rather do almost anything else cept his work, it's driving me up the wall. Have tried sticker charts, rewards, confiscations, shouting, pleading, rationalising - you name it, we've tried it. Think boarding school is the way to go.

Clay, how's the hol going?

Juan- it is in honour of the soap Doctors doing a Jane Austen themed weekblush It was a very wtf episode today, too, which was GREAT!

We got the kit list for ds's China trip today, so it is all getting a bit too close and real. And poor DD1 is feeling a bit neglected and left out (although we are trying very hard to avoid making her feel this way). So I'm conscious of not going on about the trip too much.

And EVERY SINGLE DAY I receive an e-mail from the schools application service, (one day TWO) saying I haven't submitted the app yet. Well, for starters- we've got til the 31st- and secondly, we haven't even been to 2 of the open days yet (though we are pretty sure where he's likely to go). So LEAVE ME ALONE!!
<end rant>

ClayDavis Mon 14-Oct-13 19:03:37

Holiday going well. Outdoor pool is closed. thlshock. Apparently 20 degrees is too cold for swimming. They've taken away all the chairs and tables so you can't even sit around outside.

Today I've mainly learnt why it's a bad idea to go shopping in the afternoon of a 1/2 day before a 4 day public holiday. Was absolutely rammed.

ClayDavis Mon 14-Oct-13 19:08:14

Have you tried a 'your homework your problem' sort of approach, Juan? Back of completely. If he gets into trouble with the teacher/has to stay in at lunch then it's his problem. Helps if the teacher cares about HW and he will get into trouble though. I suspect my cousins could not do their HW and the school wouldn't care. In that case it could backfire massively.

JuanPotatoTwo Mon 14-Oct-13 19:50:24

Oh right Raahh (not sure how to spell your name change so hope you don't mind me sticking to the old name)! How long is your ds going for? Are ds and dd at the same school? Will she get a chance to go one day? Have lots of Chinese takeaways when ds is away so dd can at least get a taste of Shanghai!

Clay - they've shut the outside pool? :0 Is there anyone you can go and convince you're a hardy English woman and get them to give you special dispensation? What a shame. Did you buy anything this afternoon? Is your dad able to accompany you everywhere or does he have to work?

Yes, we've tried the "it's your work, it's your problem" method - he thought it was great! He just doesn't seem to care, and the teachers are so busy they don't have time to chase up one recalcitrant child. I asked them at one point to keep him in at play times if he hadnt done his work, but that didn't seem to work either. I actually don't agree with homework at this age, or at least not much, but if he's got it to do, then he has to get on with it, it's going to get worse in a year and a bit. This situation is alien to me cos my other three were fine - cept I didn't appreciate it at the time.

Sorry for the in depth analysis of my child's homework refusal there ... smile

No, Raahh is fine. I actually don't like name-changing and ending up being called 'pem' etc. So Raahh is goodgrin

Ds and dd1 are at the same school, and her best friend has a sister who is in ds's class and also going on the trip. So they will keep each other amusedgrinWe are planning a sleepover for the two of them, which they don't know about yet.
He is going for 9 days<wibble>

I think this trip is a one off, but they have done other trips before, in addition to the usual end of yr 6 residential. My niece went to Iceland. They usually go to Gibralter (which is far enough, really!)grin

ClayDavis Mon 14-Oct-13 20:40:53

That's why I changed back after starting this thread. I'd got quite attached to this name and people calling my by something else didn't feel right.

I bet those 9 days will go quickly once he's there. Who gets the short straw of hosting the sleepover? You or the other parent?

My Dad worked til just after lunch today and then closed up for a public holiday that lasts for the next 4 days. He'll probably work mornings next week but I could convince him to take a couple off I think. And then there's the tennis next week too.grin

I think if I tried to convince them to open the pool they'd look at me like I was nuts and point me in the direction of the pool in the gym. There'd be knowing winks about the family of the English expat in Block B.

Fortunately the other parents like children have offered (and have more room --a tidy house--)

Hope you are enjoying your holiday, despite the pool issue, Clay grin

ClayDavis Mon 14-Oct-13 22:27:17

I'll survive the pool issue. It's not like Istanbul is short of stuff to do. grin And it is sunny and warmish. Technically I'm not supposed to swim because of a shoulder problem so it's probably just as well or I'd have done something stupid.

Thank God other parents are stupid brave enough to volunteer, Raahh.

I know .--and am praying the offer isn't to be reciprocated--

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 13:07:34

Jack Sock is beating Tomic convincingly. Tomic looks to be not even trying.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 13:08:33

Hardly anyone in the crowd.

Ah, Jack Sock, haven't heard much from him recently. And he does have such a good namegrin

Think Ferrer will play him in the next match?

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 13:18:08

Sock wins. Meets Ferrer next.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 13:48:27

Watching Gulbis v Chardy now. Gulbis telling ball boys to hurry up - poor things only look about 9! Am sure they must be older but they don't look it!

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 13:53:11

Chardy has a very fetching top on!

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 13:59:42

Two of the ball boys (maybe more, picture quality is bad) have fishing nets to scoop the balls up with! Not seen that before. Gulbis is mardy.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 14:07:45

I always wonder what exactly they're looking for when they inspect the balls before serving. What makes one round yellow object more acceptable than another round yellow object (barring obvious defects of course).

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 14:10:04

Bah. First set to Gulbis.

Not keen on Gulbis.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 14:18:41

Match commentator has same intonation as a British rail train announcer. Making me sleepy.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 14:22:05

"The next ball to arrive on the far side will be the 14.30 express from Gulbis"

"Chardy apologises for the delay of the 14.35 from his racquet. This is due to ball boys on the court"

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 14:51:00

Second set to Chardy.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 14:55:17

Gulbis is mardy and stupid - whacking himself really hard on his feet with his racquet.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 14:55:56

Got a time violation warning now.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 14:57:30

The baby ball boys look terrified of him.

Poor baby ball boys[tennis]

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 15:07:19

Wonder why they don't use the fishing net thingies elsewhere. Maybe the ball boys/girls at other tournies consider them uncool.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 15:12:08

There are some advantages to being self employed and not having much work on, although I'm not sure dh would concur! Feel bit guilty watching tennis all afternoon but I like to think I'm providing a service <kids no-one>

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 15:19:17

Chardy getting mardy now!

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 15:23:32

Ok, Gulbis, after many attempts, has managed to smash his racquet. He has worse tantrums than my 9yr old.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 15:26:02

Gulbis getting medical attention now, probably to an injury he caused himself. He's ok though, back playing now.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 15:49:52

Tb in third set now.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 15:57:55

Hmph, Gulbis wins.

Shane Gulbis won. Though it sounds like a pretty bad tempered match all round.

shame, I haven't suddenly re-christened himgrin

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 19:03:24

I think Shane Gulbis has a certain ring to it. Chardy only had a very tiny strop. smile

pmsl at the commentary, Juan. It's just like I was there. Please, please can you do all future commentary in the style of a train announcer.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 20:48:55

Dimitrov thru in Stockholm.

JuanPotatoTwo Tue 15-Oct-13 20:51:36

Oh just seen your request Clay! I'll listen out for the British rail commentator tomorrow in search of inspiration.

How was your day in lovely Turkey?

ClayDavis Tue 15-Oct-13 21:06:53

It was lovely. Pretty much everything is shut but had a bit of a walk round the main tourist area. Even for Istanbul the traffic was horrendous and we got hopelessly lost on the way back, which had nothing much to do with my programming of the SatNav.

Sat navs make me cross.

Funnily enough, it was in Turkey that we got very lost (using the satnav that we decided hated Dh). We were driving from the airport, it was 2 in the morning, we ended up on a teeny weeny windy donkey track in the middle if nowhere. To this day, I have no idea how we found the hotel. grin

(if i had been driving, we would still be in Turkey, 2 years ongrin).

Is Ferrer meant to be playing today?

ClayDavis Wed 16-Oct-13 11:00:33

No, he's playing tomorrow I think.

If we'd followed the satnav's original route we would have been Ok. But although we didn't need to cross the bridge we were on one of the roads heading towards it and the traffic crossing it was gridlocked. We moved 0.2miles in 45 minutes. And most of that was because people were driving across the central reservation to turn round and go the other way. Which is what we eventually did.

JuanPotatoTwo Wed 16-Oct-13 13:21:46

Bloody sat navs, good job someone stole ours!

Dodig and Verdasco just came on court, each escorted by a ball boy. Dodig's was one of the baby ball boys and they held hands all the way to his seat, was very sweet.

JuanPotatoTwo Wed 16-Oct-13 13:24:11

Dodig sporting some tennis-ball yellow shorts, think it must be a cunning plan so that Verdasco can't see the ball. Verdasco in blue and orange.

JuanPotatoTwo Wed 16-Oct-13 13:30:39

Ooh Dodig rubbing what looks like hand cream on, not sure why I find that comment worthy but I do!

JuanPotatoTwo Wed 16-Oct-13 13:35:23

Dodig has a certain Goranesque look about him I feel. Verdasco looks tired. Too much womanising

JuanPotatoTwo Wed 16-Oct-13 14:24:14

First set to Dodig

JuanPotatoTwo Wed 16-Oct-13 15:27:35

Verdasco wins.

ClayDavis Wed 16-Oct-13 21:27:08

OMG. I'm getting rid of the satnav. It's trying to get us killed. (possible slight over reaction).

Whilst trying to find ourselves after it got us lost, again, we accidently sort of cut up a car on a mini round about. (technically I think it was our right of way and he wasn't looking where he was going and went straight across it so not really our fault). So the guy drives really close to us, then suddenly overtakes and stops the car across both lanes of traffic before he and the passenger get out come up to the car and start yelling and banging on the windows. Fortunately some passers by grabbed them and put them back in their car before coming over to apologise for them. But it was a bit scary.

JuanPotatoTwo Wed 16-Oct-13 21:49:23

Clay, that's awful, must have been terrifying. What is wrong with some people. Were you with your Dad? Good job there were people around who were willing to intervene. This calls for a stiff drink I think.

ClayDavis Wed 16-Oct-13 21:55:25

Yes.There's no chance I'm ever driving in Istanbul. I like roads where there are rules.

shock Clay- glad you are ok! wine or alternative definitely required.

ClayDavis Wed 16-Oct-13 22:06:14

Missed my chance for alcohol at the restaurant when we eventually found it. And it's a bit alcohol free round this bit. Don't think I've seen any in the supermarket. Am very glad those passersby where there.

Might actually be around to'see' the Ferrer match today. Seem to keep missing them.

Vamos Ferrer!

ClayDavis Fri 18-Oct-13 09:36:20

I'm trying to work out what time that will be. I think Stokholm is 1hr ahead of UK time so will be 1 hr behind here. So about 1pm UK and 3pm here.

Gulbis won (boo), but he was playing Janowicz, who is equally disliked,I guess.

Ferrer up next? Vamos

ClayDavis Fri 18-Oct-13 13:50:03

Couldn't really work out much enthusiasm for that last match. Since it's pissing down and blowing a gale here might see if I can find the Ferrer match on TV

Nooooooo! I've just read Nadal has pulled out of Baselsad

ClayDavis Fri 18-Oct-13 14:26:23

Couldn't find it on TV. Live score site has a doubles match as being on now. It should be Ferrer/Verdasco according to the schedule.

JuanPotatoTwo Fri 18-Oct-13 14:36:21

Verdasco pulled out of Ferrer match with abdominal injury. I've had to work today, can you believe it?! How am I expected to keep up with the tennis?

Vamos Ferrer!

BurlyShassey Fri 18-Oct-13 21:03:16

Gulbis is mardy-thought you were talking about Mardy Fish! find a diff word please grin.

Andy Murray OBE grin.

don't like Janowics or Gulbis. Gulbis should have had warnings about disrespecting the ballkids. tey do a brill job.

Raahh Sat 19-Oct-13 11:15:49

Ferrer v Gulbis later, vamos Ferrer!!

ClayDavis Sat 19-Oct-13 11:35:09

Ha, I was coming on to post that exact post, Raahh. You beat me to it.

Mardy Fish is a great name, BurleyShassey. It is the only name on the tour better than Jack Sock.

Raahh Sat 19-Oct-13 11:52:08

Mardy Fish and Jack Sock are the best names on the tour.

Raahh Sat 19-Oct-13 16:54:47

Ferrer is through. Very good.

Hope he wins this- makes up for Nadal not going to Basel. But on the plus side, I can let Del Potato win there, without feeling torngrin

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 19-Oct-13 17:43:56

Watching Dimitrov v Paire at mo. Not too exciting, one set each at mo. am more interested in scanning crowd for Maria. When are you off to see tennis Clay?

Burly, I did think as I described him as 'mardy' that I might cause a bit of confusion!

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 19-Oct-13 17:46:45

Oh while we're talking names, I think Horacio Zabullus (prob spelt that wrong) is quite cool.

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 19-Oct-13 17:53:48

Dont worry Raahh, Nadal is saving himself for Bercy! And London of course, he's prob very keen to win that. Would be nice for Pot if he could secure another title before end of the season.

JuanPotatoTwo Sat 19-Oct-13 17:56:18

Ha, funny point then. Paire hit
