It's back, beginning on 15th September on WATCH. This year should be interesting as apparently they have made changes to the format that didn't' go down too well with viewers. Anyway I'm looking forward to spending time with George, Gary and Matt for the next few months.

We can't wait!

Changes to the format will be interesting. I deliberately haven't read anything online as last year DS googled and fund out the winner!

Davros Mon 09-Sep-13 17:36:06

Ooh can't wait, thanks for posting. I'm still finishing MC Ireland which I recorded so will need something to fill the gap. I love MC anything but Ireland is good. Does anyone else watch it? Don't tell me the winner!

MsNobodyAgain Mon 09-Sep-13 21:13:55

Thank you. Love Mchef Australia.

Wolfcub Mon 09-Sep-13 21:22:09

woo grin

Love this, have a couple of books from former contestants.

Amazing! The last series got me through many hours of breastfeeding my twins. And this series should hopefully see me through the winter.

MissPlumBroughtALadder Tue 10-Sep-13 13:36:21

Ooh we've just finished watching it! It's another great series. The challenges are brilliant this year. DH and I both felt the cooking was nowhere near as good as previous years; this intake just didn't seem as talented, but there ate some great characters and really lovely people you'll grow to be very fond of.

marcopront Wed 11-Sep-13 17:34:49

I'm not in the UK and we've just had episode 2, it's good. Is it on weekly in the UK, we get it every night.

DuPainDuVinDuFromage Wed 11-Sep-13 22:03:48

I've just finished watching it too, was fantastic as usual! Think it will prob be on 6 nights a week like last series - once a week would take over a year as there are something like 65 episodes! Looking forward to seeing what the wise ladies of mumsnet think of the contestants and challenges!

youbethemummylion Wed 11-Sep-13 22:07:23

Oooh was just saying to DH we should google when it starts, one of the few programmes we both enjoy and I love George.

Hoorah! Thank you for this thread - I was worrying that a new series would start, and I'd miss it - but it is on series link, ready to go!

I am now worried about these format changes - I really hope they haven't ruined it - I love the old format.

It's annoying that it's been shown already though, as I like to try the recipes and googling means I might come across the winner.

Sunnymeg Sun 15-Sep-13 18:32:22

Only half an hour to wait!

chickensaladagain Sun 15-Sep-13 19:10:19

Ooo boys vs girls -that old classic!

Wolfcub Sun 15-Sep-13 19:17:49

interesting mix of this time, there seem be some very strong personalities

chickensaladagain Sun 15-Sep-13 19:19:19

Looks like the women are going to fit the stereotype that women can't work together!

AnotherWorld Sun 15-Sep-13 19:25:43

Marking my place smile

Wolfcub Sun 15-Sep-13 19:40:06

oh dear god, team talk

MissPlumBroughtALadder Sun 15-Sep-13 21:34:29

No I promise it gets better! The whole boy/girl thing was a bit annoying but once that week was passed it improved.
Anyone want to make an early prediction? Would be interested to see if anyone picks the actual winner (don't worry, won't give it away!) The few that I initially liked in the first few episodes ended up doing well but I would jog have guessed the winner.

I do NOT like angry-face-sweary-man (can't remember his name - it might be Michael). He can go soon, please.

Nicky was very annoying, standing around supervising, and not getting his hands dirty at all.

I didn't know you couldn't whip sour cream, so I did feel a bit sorry for the dessert boys.

Ad I am utterly shock at the cost of living in Australia - I thought I saw one of the boys hold up a bagful of sprouts (it was certainly some sort of green veg) and say that was $10!!

AnotherWorld Tue 17-Sep-13 16:17:19

From now on he shall be called angry-face-sweary-man. Tis a better name than Michael anyway.

LIZS Tue 17-Sep-13 16:47:22

lol at offal vom and mozzarella "foam" blow torch fiasco .

marcopront Tue 17-Sep-13 16:50:46

Angry sweary face man continues to be annoying.

Wolfcub Wed 18-Sep-13 20:51:21

loving Matt's new segment

PseudoBadger Thu 19-Sep-13 04:24:47

Just caught up whilst suffering with heartburn on the sofa. I like it - hated most of the first episode though!

Kelty has such a smug, slappable face.

PseudoBadger Thu 19-Sep-13 06:51:45

Oh yes. And that macho twat Michael - is that perhaps John Culshaw moonlighting in MC Oz grin

GertBySea Thu 19-Sep-13 08:09:23

I just want to reassure you that the girl boy thing doesn't go on for more than a week or so.

LIZS Thu 19-Sep-13 08:33:16

How come we got a Masterclass just 3 episodes in ?

Kittenkatzen Thu 19-Sep-13 08:38:40

Oooh oooh can I join too? Love MC Oz, by far the best Masterchef series and I'll be counting on it getting through some long nights when dc1 finally decides to put in an appearance grin

YY to macho nobber Michael needing to go - "live by the sword, die by the sword", wtf?!

Kelty also v annoying and a bit rubbish, although I did have to sympathise over the offal fiasco....brains bleucccchhhhhhh.

Felt bad for poor Dan being kicked off first, don't think he deserved it really.

Thanks! Hadn't realised it was back. All excited about it now. I've managed to find last night's is on at one o'clock today so I'll be able to catch up.
My Aussie accent has vastly improved from watching previous series! grin

PseudoBadger Thu 19-Sep-13 09:00:53

I think they must've changed the start night or master class night. Or decided to just jam a master class in the middle of the week.

LIZS Sat 21-Sep-13 11:46:29

yeah Michael is in elimination ! Now we just need to add Kelty ... Where does Lucy come from in UK ?

I will be sitting here, on elimination night, with a voodoo dolly of angry-face-sweary-Michael and lots of pins!!

I do think that whoever made the boys' sour cream pastry ought to be in the elimination - I can't remember who it was, so I am not sure. But it was clear from the get-go that it was not, and was never going to be pastry, and if they had made a fresh batch there and then, they would have been able to make their tart. I'm glad they didn't though, since it landed Michael in elimination.

Did you see the bit where he said he didn't accept that his mistake was what blew it for his team the arrogant fucker??

Davros Sat 21-Sep-13 22:52:09

I'm on episode 2. God, where did they get some if these "cooks"?!

LIZS Sun 22-Sep-13 08:12:03

I know, some of them can barely cook the basics or recognise ingredients! How one earth did they whittle it down to these ?

Sunnymeg Sun 22-Sep-13 14:07:38

Michael appears to be the most opinionated awkward contestant ever. I wonder if he is having a bad edit, or whether he really is that bad. Don't think much of Noeleene either!

Davros Sun 22-Sep-13 16:22:35

They usually show a bit of how they got to the ones who are in the MC house but they didn't this time or I missed it. Michael is horrible and Kelty is an idiot, he seems to think he's Irish! I also don't like the really skinny, bossy woman who only cooks Italian food. Loving every minute though grin

Wolfcub Sun 22-Sep-13 19:57:16

if lazy Nicky is in the elimination I'm going to be torn between him and smug Michael

Wolfcub Mon 23-Sep-13 19:11:42

clarissa has to go shock

Woo hoo - I am a happy woman tonight!! Can I say why, or is there anyone who hasn't seen tonight's episode yet? grin

Davros Mon 23-Sep-13 23:37:09

I'm still behind.... I won't read any more until I've caught up. Hope its Michael though

Think god he's gone. Raw chicken?! I mean, who actually would be crazy enough to put raw chicken on a plate?

Typical BBQ chef - thinks he knows how to burn a few sausages and he's the next Marco Pierre White

Clarissa is getting exceedingly annoying too - she is next on my to-leave wishlist. I am a trained singer too, and there is no way I would do all that showy-off-y operatic singing. You can tell it is irritating the hell out of the other contestants too - I wonder if anyone will tell her?

She is vair vair irritating. All those questions would have fucked me right off too.

I also find the Aussie woo-hoo shorty cheerleader really irritating. Brit Lucy looks a bit like a fish out of water when they get going grin

AnotherWorld Tue 24-Sep-13 21:10:53

I am annoyed. Usually they start with good cooks. Those who wouldn't dream of serving raw chicken for example. This lot aren't good. They're not even enthusiastic. Not happy.

Having said that I did enjoy watching them do their 12 min rotation challenge.

Especially what's her face and her detailed instructions written in mustard on the counter top. Which might have been useful if she had bothered to tell the next person what the mustard hieroglyphs were all about, so they could pass the info on.

FacebookWanker Tue 24-Sep-13 22:36:22

I love MCA...these lot are pretty useless though...

PseudoBadger Tue 24-Sep-13 22:47:52

I guess that the main big unpopular change to the format was to ditch the 'top 50" that they used to do. Therefore they've ended up with some rubbish people.

MissPlumBroughtALadder Tue 24-Sep-13 23:02:21

Stick with it! I was appalled at the low standard at first, but the final few end up doing okay.

Patosshades Wed 25-Sep-13 16:12:05

Delighted he went, definitely deserved it. My theory is he is one of those people that thinks they're a great cook but in reality there is someone in the background in his case it looks like a long suffering wife covering for mistakes and any shortfall in skills. He probably had 1 great dish that got him onto the show and then at the first major hurdle served raw chicken.

How the other contestants haven't strangled Clarissa yet I don't know. They showed a few clips of her being generally snappy and extremely rude to other contestants too. Looks like she fancies herself as a bit of a diva. So Clarissa gets my next vote to go grin

Wolfcub Wed 25-Sep-13 20:14:52

I may have warmed to Kelty slightly after tonight's episode

PseudoBadger Wed 25-Sep-13 21:16:43

He was ok..... Everyone hates Clarissa grin

I was unsurprised that no-one was willing to give Clarissa some jam sandwiches tonight.

LIZS Sun 29-Sep-13 20:18:17

smile she was her own worst enemy, big sigh of relief all round. What's this with 2 having to leave before the next challenge though , have they not kept to the rules ?

PseudoBadger Sun 29-Sep-13 20:48:08

I love the "that was just one of the reasons you have to leave today" - translates as "the other contestants have us a list of your faults and said they'd leave if you didn't" grin

I am a trained singer, and I don't feel the need to let out such uber-operatic squawks at random points during the day. I am just surprised that none of the other contestants twatted her with a spade told her to shut up.

Arghh, just googled that glaze for the cake cos it looked amazing and have accidently found out who won this series. Really annoyed sad. Whatever you do, DON'T google the recipes unless you're prepared to spoil the result.

Glad Clarissa has gone - she was amazingly annoying.

Sunnymeg Mon 30-Sep-13 10:39:03

Clarissa's behavior during the Pressure Test was appalling. Poor Christina, and after she had already helped her out! You could tell that there was not a lot of love for Clarissa on the balcony though-

PseudoBadger Mon 30-Sep-13 10:53:47

Ah free! I learnt my lesson never to google even the most innocent query right back at series 2 sad

MissPlumBroughtALadder Mon 30-Sep-13 12:12:25

No you have to just write down any recipes you want and then google them once it's all over.

Ellenora5 Mon 30-Sep-13 14:06:57

I'm not loving this series at all to be honest, I will stick with it for another while and hope it improves, I'm glad Clarissa is gone, she was very irritating. I don't think the other contestants like Kelty either, they don't seem to give him any credit, I was delighted when he got to fight for immunity and the one that put him up for the challenge didn't grin

AnotherWorld Mon 30-Sep-13 20:06:16

I feel your pain free.

I Googled to find out when the series was starting - and found out who won sad

Damn you Google.

Icelollycraving Tue 01-Oct-13 12:17:29

Delighted that screeching witch has gone. I never watch the cooking master class bits. I do however have a bit of a fancy for Gary blush

PseudoBadger Tue 01-Oct-13 12:18:27

I never watch masterclass either. I hope they didn't do the bit with 2 people leaving last night though?

marcopront Tue 01-Oct-13 12:29:55

The two people leaving happens the episode after the masterclass.

The only masterclass I watch is the last one, because they usually muck about in that one - George and Gary doing an invention test, for example, with the finalists acting as judges. The rest of the time, I ignore it.

BeCool Tue 01-Oct-13 13:21:56

OMG I can't believe I didn't know this.

is WATCH on Freeview???

LIZS Tue 01-Oct-13 15:56:41

no afraid not . They have just shown 2nd series of Junior Aussie Masterchef on Really though so maybe it will catch up.

FacebookWanker Tue 01-Oct-13 16:00:26

I hate the masterclass...I have a soft spot for Gary...

youbethemummylion Tue 01-Oct-13 16:08:30

Thought it was only me who skipped the masterclass episodes, for me I dont watch Masterchef Australia for the cooking, its all about the contestants.

Wolfcub Tue 01-Oct-13 19:08:55

wow shocking start to the episode

LIZS Tue 01-Oct-13 19:10:03

is that it though - the trailer sounded more drastic.

PseudoBadger Tue 01-Oct-13 19:28:50

Note they asked Andrew to leave after getting rid of Clarissa in the elimination - surely they knew he'd be leaving by then grin

Wolfcub Tue 01-Oct-13 19:42:33

I'm actually feeling sorry for Kelty

Icelollycraving Tue 01-Oct-13 20:21:49

I watch the morning repeat. What's happened?

Ellenora5 Tue 01-Oct-13 23:59:29

I do to Wolfcub, I hate throwing the word bully around but when Totem said he was their sidekick or something (sorry I can't remember exactly what) I thought that was out of order, and him and the other two think they are top dogs. I posted that I'm not loving this series at all and to be honest tonight has just confirmed it, also I still don't get what happened with Andrew, surely he had those injuries when he joined, I don't see how it made a difference all of a sudden and your one with the hip injury was walking and driving so I don't get that either.

PseudoBadger Wed 02-Oct-13 00:52:53

Definite bullying I think sad

Icelollycraving Wed 02-Oct-13 09:43:36

I really like Kelty. Think he seems like a really nice guy, don't get the dislike.

LIZS Wed 02-Oct-13 09:57:50

Think they should bring back the version where they stabbed each other in the back after a team failure, Apprentice style. They clearly picked Kelty to be the fall guy if they failed and it seems the animosity is mutual.

Wolfcub Wed 02-Oct-13 21:46:51

all I can say watching this evening's episode is that karma is a bitch

Ellenora5 Wed 02-Oct-13 23:48:46

It is Wolfcub, grin serves them right, I was thrilled Kelty pulled it around, bet they won't be so smug in the next few rounds, Matt had the measure of him though, and I'm glad Nicki is gone, didn't like him at all

Agree with you two. Kelly amuses me now after his initial Irish food butchery - his pasta was excellent in the end good for him.

Nicky pissed me off from day one, glad to see the back of him. I want Vern gone too, he is so up himself. Don't mind totem so much although his big fail with the sour cream pastry marked him out as happy to pass the buck to someone else which I don't like.

getdownshep Thu 03-Oct-13 14:56:05

Go Kelty!
Wish Gary or George had pointed out how good his dish was though, just to rub it in. Vern to go next, too over confident as Noleen pointed out.
Jules is also annoying me!
Not keen on any of them this year tbh.

LIZS Thu 03-Oct-13 21:08:55

Kelty isn't much of a team player though. Totem was really wasteful and is clearly on George's radar.

Wolfcub Sun 06-Oct-13 19:39:55

oh god I think I'm developing a crush on Matt Preston

Icelollycraving Sun 06-Oct-13 22:22:31

That is a step too far wolf

My neighbours are having their drive paved, and one of the blokes doing it is the dead spit of George Calombaris - look, mannerisms, everything! It is so freaky.

LIZS Thu 10-Oct-13 18:37:58

Totem to go !

Davros Thu 10-Oct-13 20:57:15

I'm still way behind but planning on a MCA feet soon. I also miss and delete the masterclasses

LIZS Thu 10-Oct-13 21:12:26

grin cake

Icelollycraving Fri 11-Oct-13 08:13:17

So glad he's gone, irritating smug little toad.
Is anyone else baffled by how they had loads to do with 10 mins to go but still served all the dishes? hmm

I am, Icelolly - to be honest, I thought it was an unrealistic amount to ask them to do in 2 hours.

I was also surprised at how quickly George lowered the boom on Totem - usually they spin it out much longer, to raise the tension and keep us guessing - but this time it was just 'wham'!!

I was also a bit unimpressed with the dishes - if I had gone out to a famous restaurant, I would be a bit disappointed with just those dishes to choose from, and no dessert. I suppose they must have advertised it as a special, tasting menu, so people had some idea that they weren't getting an ordinary menu to choose from.

Icelollycraving Fri 11-Oct-13 09:10:39

I think they gave them more time for sure. No one was ready. Think they were pleased to get rid of him so didn't stretch it out. A bit like screechy Clarissa!
Yes,they'd obviously advertised it like that. No restaurant has a queue like that.

AnotherWorld Fri 11-Oct-13 22:04:12

Anyone watching this Masterclass - George's hands are shaking whilst he's cooking. Anyone have any clue? Hope it just nerves and nothing else.

Retrieverlady Sat 12-Oct-13 23:44:14

Hopefully someone can help with this question - we somehow missed the elimination episode in Italian week when they had to cook food the colour of the Italian flag. I don't want to google in case I find out who won the series. Can anyone tell me what happened?

Matt's fashions are the best ever in this series, I must say. I'm very surprised that Matt Moran hasn't been on, he usually pops up all the time.
We are all big supporters of Kelty, not because we think he's good but because we like an underdog (last year it was Beau)
My money's on Lynton to win.

LIZS Sun 13-Oct-13 08:20:59

Six of them from the team which failed the challenge before (pizza restaurant) got allocated a choice of ingredients from one of the colours . 2 worst were one who made pizza dough again , having flunked it once already with not enough time to prove dough properly, and a bland cobbled together meatballs in tomato pasta effort with no onion, herbs etc. Meatballs lost. Unfortunately can't recall their names !

NoPhoto Sun 13-Oct-13 08:38:33

Faiza left, after producing shite meatballs. Nahla was also in bottom two with unrisen pizze dough.

Davros Sun 13-Oct-13 13:38:21

I want Lynton to win, what a lovely man he sounds/seems. I also like Emma and I like Jools too. Warming to Kelty, thinking of him as a nice idiot rather than just an idiot! I'm still way behind, Nicky just left in my world (good)

Retrieverlady Sun 13-Oct-13 17:06:57

Ah thanks! As always I am astounded that people manage to get on the show without basic knowledge such as making dough (or pastry, ice cream, pasta etc)

Ellenora5 Sun 13-Oct-13 17:40:13

Oh yes I quite like Lynton too, wouldn't mind if he won, I was glad to see the back of Totem, seriously if you spent that much time fishing surely you could cook a few muscles, and why didn't he just leave the frigging pan on the heat, I was shouting at the telly, I wouldn't have blamed the chef if he chucked him out of his kitchen.

I think Kelty is really coming on and he might just be in with a chance to win. Jules is good too, mouthy but good, she knows what she is doing most of the time.

I noticed that about Georges hands too Anotherworld. It was strange wasn't it, maybe just nerves

FacebookWanker Tue 15-Oct-13 11:56:57

Can't believe I just wept when I watched this. Kelty is growing on me...

I totally lolled when he did the samurai steak tartare cutting thing. It was hysterical!

I did Feel sorry for Pip, the bellowing from above would REALLY piss me off. Wish they would ban it. She so would have stayed otherwise as yer man (forgot his name) liked the rest of her dish better.

Icelollycraving Tue 15-Oct-13 14:28:11

I actually found the two of them crying a bit ott. I thought Pip was going to abstain to let her go through.

Icelollycraving Tue 15-Oct-13 14:28:26

I actually found the two of them crying a bit ott. I thought Pip was going to abstain to let her go through.

FacebookWanker Tue 15-Oct-13 15:01:16

When I'm tired my emotions get the better of me...

Icelollycraving Tue 15-Oct-13 16:10:20

Most unusual for me,I cry at anything normally.

I stayed up till 2am last night catching up with a week's worth!!!!

Totally addicted.

Does anyone know when Junior Masterchef Australia is back? Bloody love that even more!

FacebookWanker Tue 15-Oct-13 16:55:13

I had to give up on JMA as it clashes with C & D's Popshop...we have to watch the channel we're recording with our Sky box, so can't Sky+ it...

Icelollycraving Thu 17-Oct-13 08:50:46

That episode made me cry pretty much consistently throughout. Was hoping whiny Neha would go.

Was Kelty deliberately shit in the first few weeks to get some sympathy?! He seems to have really upped his game in the past few episodes.

Shame about Lilliana but a layer cake in 2 hours was way too ambitious. Samira and Neha seem like the most limited cooks - best at their own cuisines (although even then, not infallible) but not much else to add to the game.

I do like it when they let them cook their own food. It annoys me when they spend most of the series cooking other people's food and recipes or dealin with stupidly limited ingredients. I want to see their inventiveness and ability at full range. It's why I've totally gone off uk masterchef.

I was sad for Liliana too - but the layer cake was both too ambitious for the 2 hour time frame, and not ambitious enough, compared to the other contestants.

I was shocked when the judges didn't even deliberate before eliminating her though - dh and I both did shock face at eachother.

It will be the masterclass tonight, won't it? I usually don't bother watching that, except the final one, which is usually more 'fun' and less 'masterclass'. I probably should give it a go from time to time, though - am I missing out massively?

Icelollycraving Thu 17-Oct-13 13:09:36

They had already made their mind up before tasting which seems unfair. That cake looked great inside.
I want Neha to go,then Samira. I like Kelty,Noelene & Jules. Vern is good but so cocky.

Ellenora5 Sat 19-Oct-13 02:28:33

I just caught up on the last few episodes, I'm not as annoyed as I was in the beginning, so who ever said in the first few posts to stick with it was right, thankyou grin

I think Liliana could have done so much better, it's not all about your kids, it's a cake and she said she hadn't done it in that time frame so why would she even try it.

Emma needs to give up that immunity pin and go home, she couldn't even manage to cook a few chips in 45 minutes.

The sooner Samira and Neha are gone the better, they can't cook anything that they haven't grown up with

LIZS Sat 19-Oct-13 08:24:25

Liliana set herself up for elimination - a layered cake was never going to cut it alongside more complex dishes, and she didn't even execute it that well. Fingers crossed for the end of Samira who couldn't even produce a decent kebab. How come they get so many readymade ingredients, like the burger buns and sachets of sauce and stock. Were the flatbreads ready made or did they do as part of the task too?

Samira really has to go. She looked like she wasn't even bothered when making the kebab.
Neha annoys me too.
Nolene does my head in too. She reminds me of my mil. She always believes she is right and is very stubborn.

Icelollycraving Mon 21-Oct-13 08:18:05

Omg! Can't believe that result, thought she was going to be the one to watch shock sad

Me too - I was completely shocked.

Icelollycraving Mon 21-Oct-13 16:22:42

Samira must go out next surely?

LIZS Mon 21-Oct-13 16:56:07

Let's hope so . I didn't think either were up to it and should both have gone.

PseudoBadger Mon 21-Oct-13 19:34:48

Ah Lynton. I've never wished I were a goat before but.....

MissPlumBroughtALadder Mon 21-Oct-13 21:45:43

Lynton is lovely isn't he?

LIZS Tue 22-Oct-13 19:58:34

that was a kind of bitter sweet twist !

Sunnymeg Wed 23-Oct-13 08:43:47

My mate in Australia tells me they are asking for entries for next years series via their Facebook page.

Davros Fri 25-Oct-13 17:52:58

Just up to the club sandwich round. Lynton was great with that goat, he seems so modest and kind.
Kelty has definitely improved, his cooking is better and I like him now.
Rishi was brilliant in the auction round, loved it, but wish Samira had gone and not Jules.

Ellenora5 Fri 25-Oct-13 19:20:50

I don't like Samira, I don't want her to come back, I was very surprised to see Jules go, she had been so good up to that and just seemed to freeze and as for bidding for the yogurt, what was she thinking.

I like Lynton to, seems a very genuine person, wonder will Kelty been with a chance at the final, I think he has really improved, and Noleen has changed for the better, quite beginning to like her now.

Ellenora5 Fri 25-Oct-13 19:21:25

* be in, not been

LIZS Sat 26-Oct-13 15:43:37

sad for Pip

Icelollycraving Tue 29-Oct-13 09:15:03

Poor Liliana, her dish was amazing. So glad that Vern's partner didn't get through (can't remember his name),couldn't stand him. His dish was like vom.
Rishi is good but can't believe Samira made it back.
I think I'm a little over invested in this programme blush

I wanted Jules back - I think she is a better cook than Samira. You are spot on about Vern's partner, Icelolly.

And we are not over-invested - we are just taking an intelligent interest. grin

LIZS Tue 29-Oct-13 09:28:38

Noooo , to Samira back ! She can't cook anything beyond her own cuisine, fine but hardly Masterchef.

Davros Tue 29-Oct-13 09:28:56

Ooops, haven't seen the last of the "re-entry" episodes, just watched the amazing frozen pudding one. So now I know that Samira gets back in which is very disappointing as I think she is rubbish, she's not even that good at her "own" food iykwim. I can only assume she got back in because of Rishi. I don't think she will last. I was really hoping Xavier would get back in, he seems so nice. Were Clarissa and Totem (I keep thinking he's Tonto!) not in it because they were out before the last 20?

Ohhh - I hadn't noticed that they weren't in the re-entry episodes! But Michael - aka angry-face-sweary-man - was the first one out, wasn't he? He was certainly eliminated before Clarissa, I am sure of that.

So maybe they drew lots - because the working in pairs thing meant they only needed 10 eliminated contestants to compete for re-entry.

LIZS Tue 29-Oct-13 09:37:32

It was pretty close in the end .

Icelollycraving Tue 29-Oct-13 09:46:55

I think they knew no one would partner Clarissa! grin

Ellenora5 Tue 29-Oct-13 14:00:35

Nicky and Vern are two horrible people, they were so sure they had it in the bag, I was thrilled he was sent home, I was hoping they would make an exception for Liliana, she really was the best and it's unfair, Samira won't last much longer, I said it before she can only cook her own type of food, Rishi is doing really well though he could be in the final, bloody masterclass tonight isn't it, I stopped watching those ages ago.

LIZS Tue 29-Oct-13 14:07:19

yes a mc tonight , we don't bother either ! Nicky and Vern were way too cocky.

Davros Tue 29-Oct-13 14:40:57

No-one seems to watch Masterclass. They should scrap them but maybe they're the one cheap episode they've got!

FacebookWanker Tue 29-Oct-13 19:24:19

I forgot it was Masterclass tonight sad

LoganMummy Tue 29-Oct-13 19:34:39

Just found this thread. I love this programme (so much better than UK version!) but agree re masterclasses, not for me.

I really liked Jules, sad she's out but I don't know who I want to win.

It just makes me so hungry!

marcopront Thu 31-Oct-13 17:57:20

Is it possible Lynton knew Lilliana would be a threat if she came back and so did badly on purpose?

PseudoBadger Thu 31-Oct-13 18:06:22

Wash your mouth out!! Not my Lynton sad

Davros Thu 31-Oct-13 21:12:09

Seconded! Lynton would never do that, how dare you!

MissPlumBroughtALadder Fri 01-Nov-13 09:43:51

No! Lynton is way too much of a sweetheart to do something like that. I really don't think he has a calculating bone in his body.

Have people seen the elimination episode, with the chocolate cake cube yet? I don't want to start discussing it, and give away the result, if people haven't seen it yet.

LIZS Fri 01-Nov-13 10:28:16

Saw all bar the very end ! Seemed pretty obvious who would go though.

PseudoBadger Fri 01-Nov-13 10:35:07

I've seen it. Happy with the result, would've been happy with any of them going to be honest.

Icelollycraving Fri 01-Nov-13 11:21:50

I have seen it. Pleased with result. Vern can be pretty unlikeable but I do think he will get quite far. I have a problem, when does it end?

Davros Fri 01-Nov-13 14:05:57

I have seen it. Considering they all managed to produce something creditable and finish it at all, it can't have been as difficult as it looked. Vern does seem to be quite skilled although I don't like him and I'm sick of hearing about "mum" (sorry!). DH hates Noelene

Icelollycraving Fri 01-Nov-13 14:15:01

I didn't think it looked as complex as the chef woman was saying. I think it was more of a time frame issue. I can see why Noelene could irritate but I don't mind her.
The putting the bell on the dish would have made it hard to send him home. Lucky for him that his was good.

LIZS Fri 01-Nov-13 14:25:14

There weren't that many components to assemble and they do have access to a blast chiller so setting shouldn't have been a problem and they must have had gaps while waiting. Neha's mousse lacked air because she knocked it out so hers wasn't quite as pretty inside.

Ellenora5 Fri 01-Nov-13 14:27:09

Yep, I've seen it, happy enough with who went home, I agree with you about that cake, it can't have been as hard as suggested, it was only layering it properly and freezing it, not that I could do it or even be bothered to grin, I wonder how much she would charge for that, probably costs a fortune, I quite like Noelene

PseudoBadger Sun 03-Nov-13 20:53:39

Yippee! That is all.

Ellenora5 Mon 04-Nov-13 00:59:39

Woohoo, thrilled aswell PseudoBadger

LIZS Mon 04-Nov-13 07:14:40

smile . Got the impression that a collective sigh of relief went round.

Icelollycraving Mon 04-Nov-13 11:01:22

So has everyone seen the breakfast episode?
Don't want to give it away.

LIZS Mon 04-Nov-13 15:42:24

That was what I was commenting on ! A real surprise

Ellenora5 Mon 04-Nov-13 16:01:39

I swear I think Noleene was smirking grin, great episode, wasn't Lynton brilliant and he was so happy with his comments.

Icelollycraving Mon 04-Nov-13 17:03:35

Lynton really pulled it out of the bag! Lucy did play it safe.
I really thought Vern would go into top 3.

happyscouse Mon 04-Nov-13 17:31:09

Phew! happy in our house too. I really thought top three too icelolly

PseudoBadger Mon 04-Nov-13 17:38:43

I was surprised that the judges didn't find a reason to keep him in to be honest

I think the thing that made that cubic chocolate cake difficult was having to do it in a restricted time. I am sure they could all have done it perfectly if they had had enough time.

I think they are often given too little time, to make better tv, of course, and can't do as good a job as they are capable of. Sometimes I would rather they had a bit more time, and a better outcome.

So who does everyone want to win then? I like Lynton, and have a bit of a soft spot for Noelene, because although originaly she seemed not to listen, I think she has learned from that and moved on. Rishi is quite talented. Lucy is good, but maybe a bit "safe". I like Kelty as a person, but not sure he could cut it in a busy kitchen. Samira ok but not a winner. Daniel a bit of a dark horse. Didn't see much of him earlier on, but has come up from behind. Emma seemed good earlier on, but haven't seen so much of what she can do lately. Not sure about Christina either.

The two people I thought were good but got eliminated were Liliana and Jules.

soda1234 Tue 05-Nov-13 00:39:52

Sorry. slow to the party, but now I think Daniel will win. Just a feeling!

Sunnymeg Tue 05-Nov-13 13:29:10

Heston tonight - goody goody!!

Retrieverlady Tue 05-Nov-13 16:25:34

I've had Lynton down to win since early on.

Noelene is growing on me - at first I thought she was very basic and slapdash, but she's really improving.

We all love Kelty in our house and cheer him on at every opportunity. Again, he has done well after a shaky start.

Lucy looks like a top 3 contender, she doesn't appear to have any weaknesses.

Emma - I'm not really sure about, she has the pin, so that's good for her and may keep her in longer.

Rishi is great fun and probably a top 3 contender.

Samira isn't even good at her own cuisine and really ought to go out again soon.

I don't think Daniel or Christina have got what it takes to win

happyscouse Tue 05-Nov-13 16:52:47

I just wanted Kelty to last longer than Vern, I felt Vern had no respect for Kelty despite him producing some really good stuff. To be honest I felt at the beginning he was a bit of a bully. Noelene has really grown on me too one withering look from her says more than a thousand words ( though i'm sure it said at the beginning she had been through 4 husbands!)Overall i think rishi is very strong and lynton a bit of a dark horse!

Icelollycraving Tue 05-Nov-13 17:26:06

I quite fancy like Kelty.

Kelty is nice - but just not consistently competent. I think Rishi has a real chance. He took charge this evening but the team he was in did really well.

I think Heston week will be great!

Icelollycraving Wed 06-Nov-13 12:21:38

I cannot decide if I like Rishi or find him a controlling arse. Still like Noelene but she's lucky to have got this far.
Daniel is not anything spesh,a bit under the radar.
Samira needs to go.
Emma is lucky to have that pin, reckon she'll be using it soon enough.
Christina is not consistent & flappy.
Lucy is generally pretty good but I don't think she's going to win. I do like her though.
Lynton is very sweet,we all love a bit of Lynton.
I like Kelty,he was really crap to lull the others into a false sense of security.

Icelollycraving Wed 06-Nov-13 12:27:21

God that makes me sound quite grumpy!

PseudoBadger Wed 06-Nov-13 13:05:27

Rishi is a controlling arse disguised as a nice guy.
Samira looked petrified by the thought of a week of Heston; she needs to go. Also I can't see Noelene making it through this week unscathed.

Davros Wed 06-Nov-13 13:29:54

I think Rishi or Kelty could win. I like both of them. I like Emma, not sure she's good enough, ditto Lucy. I love Lynton. Can't wait to see the Heston episode later with DH and DD

Davros Wed 06-Nov-13 18:18:27

Is anyone else having trouble with the titles of recordings? Our recordings are suddenly called the wrong thing and it's very confusing! I deleted a master class only to find it was something else that I wanted to watch. Luckily I could retrieve it. The first Heston episode says its an immunity challenge

PseudoBadger Wed 06-Nov-13 18:32:46

It leads to an immunity challenge, is that perhaps the issue?

Davros Wed 06-Nov-13 19:04:23

It seems to be one out. Each episode has got the title if the next one!!

Sunnymeg Wed 06-Nov-13 22:10:01

Amazed at Noelene's attitude to Heston last night. One of the most accomplished cooks ever, and she wants him to find her missing ingredients! It was almost like she got in a panic and forgot who he was.

Think her days are numbered!"

Ellenora5 Thu 07-Nov-13 01:01:27

They changed masterclass night didn't they, I was all set to watch Sunday, Monday, skip Tuesday (masterclass) and watch tonights episode, but Sunday ended up being masterclass, or else I'm getting very confused confused, have I missed an episode?

Icelollycraving Thu 07-Nov-13 08:14:26

The immunity challenge was great. Surprising result I think. I thought they would choose differently.

LIZS Thu 07-Nov-13 08:16:30

for some reason this series hasn't fallen into a regular 6-day pattern so MC episodes moves each week.

I think Heston showed great self-control not to react to Noelene - I was shocked at how rude she sounded! He is coming over as a very nice, genuine bloke. I really enjoyed watching the immunity challenge last night, and loved how self-deprecating he was. I did think it was a shame that none of them won an immunity pin - though it is such a huge help, they do have to make sure someone does a stellar job if they are going to win one.

I think they should have given Heston a pin, for his efforts, though!

PseudoBadger Thu 07-Nov-13 10:49:10

I thought Daniel was going to get a pin. He's my new tip to win.

Icelollycraving Thu 07-Nov-13 11:40:19

Wtf did Rishi make?! What was he thinking?!
They knew a pudding would ensure he screwed up.

PseudoBadger Thu 07-Nov-13 16:44:25

He made a shite copy of Rene's snowman. I bet Rene was appalled!

LIZS Thu 07-Nov-13 21:59:28

So who's going ! ?

I don't know, but it will be interesting to see.

I think Heston is great though!

Icelollycraving Fri 08-Nov-13 10:17:06

The banquet was a great episode. I loved seeing Noelene in her element, she seemed to just light up. So sad to see her go into elimination.

Ellenora5 Sat 09-Nov-13 22:25:29

Icelolly I was raging she went, at the banquet episode I was shouting at the telly, "don't stuff the turkey, it won't cook in time", but I think she really improved throughout the series and genuinely didn't seem to mind leaving.

Kelty is really coming on isn't he, and I think Rishi is getting a bit too sure of himself and needs to tone it down a bit.

Well, that's the thing - Noelene was good at a lot of stuff, but it was in the end her fault that she insisted on stuffing the turkey, which resulted in the team losing. So it was fair that she went really.

I still think Rishi is good (though maybe a bit over-confident) and think Daniel has been a bit under the radar but is now looking good. Kelty a nice bloke, but don't think he will win. Don't know about Lynton. Christina is still in the running, not so sure about Emma, don't think Samira will make it. Have no idea about Lucy.

Icelollycraving Mon 11-Nov-13 09:58:52

Aaah,I must not read this until I've watched them.
Watched the elimination round,Noelene was completely out of her depth. Strangely enough Samira had the best dish. Be interesting to see how she fares in Dubai.

Icelollycraving Tue 12-Nov-13 09:44:31

Just watched the Dubai show. Kelty was sweating so much, that chilli thing looked potent!
Rishi does work hard but I find him really irritating,he has such cockiness.
I don't know what it says about me but I wondered what washing powder they use in Dubai to get the whites so white (I realise they were probably wearing new stuff).

I thought Lucy did really well tonight. She was very organised with the mise-en-place and so enthusiastic with the service. She obviously enjoyed herself a lot, and it showed in her cooking.

Ellenora5 Wed 13-Nov-13 16:04:02

I really enjoyed last nights, although I did feel a bit sorry for Kelty and Lucy, they really earned their place and then for no one to face elimination has to be hard, mind you the look on Samiras face was priceless, she was not to happy, her dish was the only one not mentioned by the judges, and as for her meltdown, that was ridiculous, she really does not like Kelty.

Lynton and Christine need to step up their game, Rishi is very good but as I said before he is getting a bit too cocky.

Icelollycraving Wed 13-Nov-13 17:28:51

Lynton crying sad Samira didn't really blow us away did she?!

getdownshep Wed 13-Nov-13 18:29:13

Did Daniel and Emma go to Paris with Matt Preston? They were there for the restaurant task, then the next episode preview they were all back in Oz.
Poor Lynton,he sounds like he really needs this.
I was crying with himsad

Icelollycraving Wed 13-Nov-13 19:16:30

Oh yes, forgot about Paris! Odd old business.

LIZS Thu 14-Nov-13 08:03:42

ooh Samira in the firing line again !

Davros Thu 14-Nov-13 08:38:18

I've only just finished Heston week and will actually watch MC for once as he seems to be doing it. I shouldn't read this thread until I've caught up but can't resist! I'm sorry to hear about Lynton crying! He's lovely, he may not be the best cook out of them but he's so nice I'd like him to go as far as possible even if he doesn't win.

LIZS Fri 15-Nov-13 18:41:47

is it Paris/Masterclass tonight ?

Icelollycraving Tue 19-Nov-13 09:35:15

So what's been happening? We are staying with family & I haven't seen it for days sad

Davros Tue 19-Nov-13 09:47:54

I'm just up to Daniel leaving which was a surprise. It's not fair that one of the saved ones (pref Samira) wasn't in the last two for elimination. Poor Daniel had a stinker on the day. Samira's melt down in the desert was pathetic, she's lucky Kelty is so nice, I've really got to like him since thinking he was a plonker at first.

getdownshep Tue 19-Nov-13 15:11:31

Is anyone else finding Christina really annoying, she cries at nearly every taskhmm Is she going for the sympathy vote do you think?
I'm not saying I wouldn't be the same though!

queribus Tue 19-Nov-13 17:46:55

Can I join in?

Christina is really annoying and I'm fed up of hearing about her kids - yes, we get it. You have kids. You love them. Next!

Samira is also getting on my nerves, but I think she'll go the distance to the final week. Oh, and I think Emma is annoying as well - that laugh!

Rishi to win.

Ellenora5 Tue 19-Nov-13 19:57:14

Who saw last nights, don't want to spoil it for anyone, I think it was the wrong decision. Agree about Christina, shut up with the whinging and by the way you were bloody lucky last night angry

Flickering Tue 19-Nov-13 21:02:13

I'm up to date. Gutted sad

getdownshep Wed 20-Nov-13 14:57:39

Anyone seen the Josie Bones episode?
How crap was Emma, poor Lynton had to do it all while she flapped around making a bloody salad!

Icelollycraving Wed 20-Nov-13 16:11:45

Has Emma used her pin yet?

LIZS Wed 20-Nov-13 16:18:19

yes she used it for last week's elimination .

CrocodileScream Wed 20-Nov-13 16:21:55

I'm a hardcore AMC fan grin but this year's offering has been poor compared to the other series. Stop doing bloody team challenges! Where are the invention tests and mystery boxes - they sorted the wheat from the chaff.

How has Emma managed to bumble her way to finals week?

Flickering Wed 20-Nov-13 20:36:22

Gutted again. Samira shouldn't still be there

LIZS Wed 20-Nov-13 20:36:42

Ellenora5 Thu 21-Nov-13 00:24:07

Ah feck that for a game of soldiers, disgusted with tonights result, if Samira or Christina win I will eat my hat. Samira is rude and obnoxious, Christina flavours all her dishes with tears. I have nothing to say about Emma, I don't understand why she is still there, she should have been flung out for her performance at Josie Bones. I want Lynton to win because Rishi is too full of himself.

I hope the next series goes back to what it used to be, remember the tasting challenges, they were brill, who would have thought spag bol had so many ingredients in it grin and for so many of them to not guess. Or the chopping challenge, the onions, the potato chipping, they were great fun.

Ellenora5 Thu 21-Nov-13 00:26:01

Oh and bring back Matt Moran, he is fab

Flickering Thu 21-Nov-13 08:11:20

Ellenora - I agree completely with every word of your 2 posts.
The challenges where they had to name types of pasta etc were great. I can't remember an invention test this year at all.
Lynton to win!

LIZS Thu 21-Nov-13 08:17:36

Hoping Finals week will be a bit more rigorous, is it a MC tonight ?

getdownshep Thu 21-Nov-13 15:26:33

Ellenora you are so right!
Thanks for writing exactly what I was thinking.
I haven't enjoyed this years series, hate these theme weeks and there's too much emotional stuff, its boring.
No Matt Moranangry and George is all thin and moody!

Davros Thu 21-Nov-13 20:07:13

I agree too! I don't like the themed weeks and the thing that really made MCA stand out was those brilliant " replicate the dish", "name the ingredients", mystery boxes etc and they've almost dropped them! I can't bear Christina going on about her "two beautiful kids", she showed a photo of them sobbing her heart out when Lynton talked about his disabled sister with dignity. Samira's always going on about her kids too we just saw the one where they cook for their families and couldn't believe that Rishi is married with kids too, he never harps on about them and, although Kelty has mentioned his kids he talks more about his wife. I'm assuming Kelty is no more, guessing from this thread, that is a shame. And what has happened to Matt Moran, he's never been mentioned?!!

CrocodileScream Thu 21-Nov-13 20:18:00

The taste tests, identifying poultry etc by touch were amazing. Do you remember they made butter?

Hoping against hope they go back to the old formula for next year!

Icelollycraving Fri 22-Nov-13 06:54:22

As I'm missing it,I gave into better judgement & googled. I know who wins it sad Stupid Icelolly, harrumph.

Ellenora5 Sat 23-Nov-13 14:49:05

Well it's the last week, it wasn't great last night was it, I'm at the stage now where I'm just watching to see who wins but I'm not sure I care anymore because I presume it will be Samira or Christina.

LIZS Sat 23-Nov-13 17:51:50

Samira can't even cook a prawn !

LIZS Sun 24-Nov-13 20:18:51

One down !

Ellenora5 Mon 25-Nov-13 18:21:41

Phew glad she is gone, great news for Lynton grin

PseudoBadger Mon 25-Nov-13 19:24:59

I'll be very upset if Rishi wins, he's so arrogant.

Ellenora5 Tue 26-Nov-13 14:12:24

It's looking like he might Pseudo, last one on Thursday, so we will know then, one more boring masterclass tomorrow night I think, jesus if they don't know it now they never will.

I won't miss it and I hate saying that but it really wasn't one of the better series sad

PseudoBadger Tue 26-Nov-13 14:21:34

I'm not sure now, things are going Samira's way which is also bad. Come on Lynton!! who isn't good enough but never mind

LIZS Tue 26-Nov-13 16:33:50

Maybe Samira will bomb out tonight ?

Flickering Tue 26-Nov-13 20:10:58

I second your NOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooo, Flickering. That is such a bad result.

Flickering Tue 26-Nov-13 22:11:26

How can Samira still be in and Rishi gone? Every time she cooks you wonder if the food will be raw. And she can only do one cuisine.
Lynton to win! My money's been on him since early days and he definitely deserves it more than the others

Sunnymeg Wed 27-Nov-13 07:47:18

Masterclass tonight, with the return of last year's winner Andy and his best mate Ben. This could turn out to be the highlight of the whole series!!

getdownshep Wed 27-Nov-13 14:37:31

Ellenora5 Wed 27-Nov-13 19:13:19

Well to say I'm shocked is an understatement, I was sure Rishi was there till the end, I would have preferred him than Samira, I never warmed to her at all, Lynton to win so grin

Agree about masterclass tonight Sunnymeg, it could indeed be the highlight

Don't forget everyone it will be on for two hours tomorrow night, make sure nothing clashes if you are recording it, after we put in all this time it would be a shame if we missed the last hour smile

Ellenora5 Fri 29-Nov-13 00:09:35

Where have you all gone, it was the finale, was I on my own watching it sad...what did you all think, I'm afraid to post incase I spoil it for someone who hasn't watched it confused

LIZS Fri 29-Nov-13 07:17:14

Saw it and wasn't convinced about the result . Where was Adriano ? sad I knew who won , found on fb by accident a few weeks back, but just glad it wasn't a less worthy one.

getdownshep Fri 29-Nov-13 15:17:11

I'm so disappointedsad
I just knew that person was going to bloody pip the other one at the post.

PanicMode Fri 29-Nov-13 17:24:53

Gutted with the result - the loser was robbed! I have watched this series, but don't think it was a particularly good one.....

puzzlepetal Fri 29-Nov-13 21:49:46

I loved it. Will miss watching every day. Thought Lynton would win but well done to Emma.

Flickering Sat 30-Nov-13 12:33:14

Travesty!!! angry

I was glad about the top two but the winner was just so undeserving IMO. Grrrrr.

Sunnymeg Sat 30-Nov-13 14:33:41

So, the one whose boyfriend once worked for Heston Bleumental won.

Hoping for better next year!

Ellenora5 Sat 30-Nov-13 15:41:33

Me too Sunnymeg, I hope they go back to the original format

I was really hoping Lynton would win sad

PseudoBadger Sun 01-Dec-13 10:25:40

I just read that they filmed alternate endings, of each of them winning, and that they only found out who'd won when it aired.

PseudoBadger Sun 01-Dec-13 10:33:47

Flickering Sun 01-Dec-13 12:04:08

That's crazy, Pseudobadger! Poor Lynton, having to go through the pretense and then finding out he didn't get it sad

sparkle101 Sun 01-Dec-13 17:23:13

Well I can finally post on this thread!!! A piece of advice for all you fellow Australian MasterChef fans, do not like them on Facebook, otherwise you find out who won before it even started. Was pretty in exciting viewing cause of this!!!! I had to stay away from the thread incase I dropped in the winner.

PseudoBadger Sun 01-Dec-13 17:31:11

Never google anything at all about the show either before the end. I learnt that in series 2...

Davros Sun 08-Dec-13 21:27:11

We only just watched the final. We enjoyed it but think the last round should be their own food, not the first one. That"desert" was bleurgh and so pretentious. I wanted Lynton to win and was glad Samira didn't although she really improved, both in her cooking and her personality. Let's face it, none if them was particularly good, quite rubbish really. Compare Emma to Druv Baker
