who do we think will be the early favourites? Who will get to the grand finale? Who will turn most orange?

It's starting now and I am very excited...!

JumpingJackSprat Sat 07-Sep-13 19:02:59

I cant wait!! I love it when they start doing rumba as its my favourite. I just really dislike julian mcdonald so hopefully he gets kicked out first. i like rachel riley and shes got a good build, i think she will be very good at ballroom. I hope she gets pasha. im so sad that flavia isnt on it this year though.

RippingYarns Sat 07-Sep-13 19:03:45

they've broken Strictly with Vanessa sad

cece Sat 07-Sep-13 19:05:32

E.x.c.i.t.e.d.

FamiliesShareGerms Sat 07-Sep-13 19:13:12

Do they really not know until tonight who they will be paired with?

RippingYarns Sat 07-Sep-13 19:14:20

i don't think they do, but have an idea due to height of 'slebs etc

RaspberrySnowCone Sat 07-Sep-13 19:16:12

Really quite disappointed with the line up. Anton is back again sad not sure on the new pros either but I always say that then end up loving them. Gutted for Robin getting stuck with a Dragon!

MrsJoyfulPrizeForRafiaWork Sat 07-Sep-13 19:16:18

Nice to hear the band are up to their usual high standards hmm

Catmint Sat 07-Sep-13 19:17:34

Brucie is back. sadhmmconfused

forehead Sat 07-Sep-13 19:18:01

I am missing Flavia and Vincent.

Bowlersarm Sat 07-Sep-13 19:19:05

.....not current, but does anyone know why Matthew Cutler stopped doing Strictly? I loved him! Every series I hope he makes a comeback, but he hasn't. I've never found out why he stopped doing it. If anyone knows.....

cardibach Sat 07-Sep-13 19:19:07

What is Bruce on making a joke about foreign names - you would have thought he'd have learned his lesson about borderline racism (and I quite like him). WHo will get stuck with the Hairy Biker?

Hello!! I should have Sky plussed and zipped through. grin It's all a bit slow. Is Anton going to get Vanessa do you think?

Jessie J?

RippingYarns Sat 07-Sep-13 19:19:46

the new tall male dancer looks lickable interesting grin

cardibach Sat 07-Sep-13 19:19:59

What do you mean MrsJoyful? I think the band/singers do an amazing job! SO many different styles and so little rehearsal time.

RippingYarns Sat 07-Sep-13 19:20:19

oh gawd, DD is transfixed by Jessie J sad

HRHwheezing Sat 07-Sep-13 19:22:10

Am I watching the voice again?

forehead Sat 07-Sep-13 19:22:27

I also want to know what happened to Matthew Cutlet
I loved his partnership with Alesha,

sailorsgal Sat 07-Sep-13 19:23:33

No Flavia and Vincent. shock

EvaBeaversProtege Sat 07-Sep-13 19:23:36

Bruce sad

Get rid!!!!

RaspberrySnowCone Sat 07-Sep-13 19:23:51

Bowler I loved Matt too. Also loved Karen, Lilia & Darren, Vincent & Flavia. I think they move onto other stuff, dance schools, shows or back on the competition circuit.

EvaBeaversProtege Sat 07-Sep-13 19:25:15

Where's Flavia?

HRHwheezing Sat 07-Sep-13 19:25:21

Matthew cutler was on qvc selling Zumba stuff.

FamiliesShareGerms Sat 07-Sep-13 19:26:09

I think the new dancers usually need to do their apprenticeship by being paired with the less likely to win celebs.

Apart from Anton, who is surely never going to win with his run of partners

Crutchlow35 Sat 07-Sep-13 19:26:50

Can anyone update me? Who has who? I am stuck with spiderman for now.

TSSDNCOP Sat 07-Sep-13 19:26:51

Settles down with a blissful sigh. The puns are coming thick and fast already.

The littler new dancer looks like Mark Owen.

sailorsgal Sat 07-Sep-13 19:27:15

No Natalie either.

MrsJoyfulPrizeForRafiaWork Sat 07-Sep-13 19:27:26

Hmm, no I think the band are, and always have been, pretty rough.

FamiliesShareGerms Sat 07-Sep-13 19:27:30

DH and DS will be disappointed that Natalie is injured this year

Crutchlow35 Sat 07-Sep-13 19:28:02

Flavia isn't doing it this year. Neither is Vincent n

RaspberrySnowCone Sat 07-Sep-13 19:29:09

Did the make up artist who did the joker from batman get hired for the pro girls this year? What is going on??!

sailorsgal Sat 07-Sep-13 19:29:52

Ola looked pleased..

Bowlersarm Sat 07-Sep-13 19:30:13

HRH so that's not a good thing, right, for Matthew? It just seemed one minute he was there, the next he wasn't and no explanation.

Anton has got to get Vanessa hasn't he?

HRHwheezing Sat 07-Sep-13 19:30:36

Dr casualty with anya, holly oaks bloke with ola, Julian with Janet new dancer,

RippingYarns Sat 07-Sep-13 19:30:44

MrsJ

it's really difficult for a band to play music to dance too, they have to be 110% with timing etc - this band is awesome for that

Julien McDonald will be annoying.

HRHwheezing Sat 07-Sep-13 19:32:26

Not really bowler tony jacklin in with aliona.
I liked matthew

cardibach Sat 07-Sep-13 19:33:42

Well I enjoy them (the band)! I do have some experience of music too...

thenightsky Sat 07-Sep-13 19:34:19

woooow... I'm here!

<settles in with wine>

BigW Sat 07-Sep-13 19:34:21

Yeah, I also reckon Anton will get Vanessa. Vincent and Flavia are my absolute favourites. Massively disappointed they're not in it this year sad

HRHwheezing Sat 07-Sep-13 19:36:08

How many of us actually like Abbie crotch?

MrsJoyfulPrizeForRafiaWork Sat 07-Sep-13 19:36:57

Well, try not let my opinion spoil your enjoyment, eh? grin

TSSDNCOP Sat 07-Sep-13 19:38:10

Oh god not Abby Crotch again. Famous only for being thin.

Susannah will out-diva even Vanessa I reckon.

Susanna Reid is lovely, and very pretty.

TSSDNCOP Sat 07-Sep-13 19:40:44

And very determined Sparkling

RippingYarns Sat 07-Sep-13 19:41:17

whoop whoop for Anton!

Oohh, will James get Vanessa? He won't be happy.

TSSDNCOP Sat 07-Sep-13 19:41:33

Who dressed Vanessa as a boiled egg?

FamiliesShareGerms Sat 07-Sep-13 19:41:49

Was Tess's swingers comment to Tony Jacklin a dig at some of the celebs or just a mindless comment?

TSSDNCOP Sat 07-Sep-13 19:42:06

James is being punished grin

Vanessa got James? shock So Susanna gets little new Kev?

HRHwheezing Sat 07-Sep-13 19:42:14

Anton with Fiona, that's a turn up for the books, I saw Vanessa all over that one.

Vanessa's with James, which should be fun

I can't stand James grin

thenightsky Sat 07-Sep-13 19:42:42

quick quick.... who did James J get last year??? I've completely forgotten shock

INeedThatForkOff Sat 07-Sep-13 19:43:00

He was with Denise wasn't he?

HRHwheezing Sat 07-Sep-13 19:43:37

James had Denise.

How much age difference between Brucie and Rod.? Think Graham Norton would be a great replacement as compere.

TSSDNCOP Sat 07-Sep-13 19:51:40

sparkling you've been warned once. If you invoke the mahogany plastic scouser again I will report you.

Ok TSS Sorry TSS. sad grin

I've been over on t'other thread, so late to this one!

Matthew Cutler is still dancing/teaching. My dance teacher saw him last year at a teacher's conference where he was a guest lecturer. She said the ladies were transfixed by his bum!

TSSDNCOP Sat 07-Sep-13 19:53:17

You couldn't put Graham, Craig, Bruno and Julian McDonald together at the same time. That's just too much camp near that volume of sequins.

TSSDNCOP Sat 07-Sep-13 19:54:19

It's more that if you mention him, you can bet he'll rock up on next weeks show and Stella will get a gig as the wardrobe designer.

EvaBeaversProtege Sat 07-Sep-13 19:54:32

Aww a little bit of Flavia!

Love Louis and Flavia, glad she said she will be back.

thistlelicker Sat 07-Sep-13 19:55:32

TSSDNCOP Sat 07-Sep-13 19:56:26

Now Mr Cohen is a rather handsome fella is he not?

thistlelicker Sat 07-Sep-13 19:56:27

My fav dance ever on strictly is aliona and Harry's Argentine tango!

Oh I do wish the producer wouldn't go "A motorbiker! Let's have Born to be Wild as the soundover!"

MidnightHag Sat 07-Sep-13 19:56:35

HRHwheezing Sat 07-Sep-13 19:57:09

sailorsgal Sat 07-Sep-13 19:59:28

Has anyone tried the new Fitsteps class? Designed by Natalie and Ian Waite.

thistlelicker Sat 07-Sep-13 20:00:24

I don't like Christina vodka neither!!! When it's the pro dance she takes over!!! I liked Erin!!

TSSDNCOP Sat 07-Sep-13 20:00:35

Please let handsome Ben make the final.

Horsemad Sat 07-Sep-13 20:02:00

Blimey, we're only just sitting down to eat - running late tonight, been to Burghley Horse Trials, am knackered now!

I liked Erin too, she always seemed so nice and girl-next-door compared to some of the glamour-pusses.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet Sat 07-Sep-13 20:02:06

Bloody Darcy and her inane comments though.

As I said on t'other thread there is too much Latin emphasis within the Pros now. We're just not oing to see Ballroom danced the way it should be anymore sad

Horsemad Sat 07-Sep-13 20:02:43

Hi Sparkling

First glance at their ability now!

TSSDNCOP Sat 07-Sep-13 20:04:31

Week 1 hairy biker out
Week 2 red shirt out
Week 3 Vanessa out
Week 4 Tony out
Week 5 Fiona out

grin

thenightsky Sat 07-Sep-13 20:04:46

Corrie woman looks a contender, as does Sophie EB.

Vanessa Feltz is grating my carrot already. angry

That would do me TSS but VF has to go too.

Corrie girl will be good.

Vanessa has no arm coordination

Ben Cohen looks wooden

Countdown girl looks terrified

Bond girl is giving it one, good sense of rhythm

Didn't get a good enough look at the others grin

MidnightHag Sat 07-Sep-13 20:05:49

Tony Jacklin grin

TSSDNCOP Sat 07-Sep-13 20:06:00

VF dances like L'Armoire in Beauty and the Beast grin

thistlelicker Sat 07-Sep-13 20:06:07

How the monkeys can they only have learned the dance two days ago but only just met their partner who they have just danced with!!! Bbc we r not
Dicks!!

ItsaTIARA Sat 07-Sep-13 20:06:09

I reckon Abbey is this year's Box Office Poison - she'll be in the dance-off as soon as the numbers have got down to single figures.

Mark Benton has been playing Edna in Hairspray so presumably has the stamina and basic rhythm to put in a decent performance.

I love Rachel Riley, but I think she might be telling the truth about her dancing ability - I'm guessing she'll be a sane Victoria Pendleton.

Hairy biker not too good, but I like him. Vanessa is going to be so annoying.

Friday 27th September for the next show sad

Susanna to win, or Darren off Hollyoaks.

TSSDNCOP Sat 07-Sep-13 20:07:10

Corriegirl and SE-B on my fantasy final list.

thenightsky Sat 07-Sep-13 20:08:21

Cannot stand Suzanne and her gurning face. I'm already voting Corrie woman.

ItsaTIARA Sat 07-Sep-13 20:08:25

They learned the dance as a group dance thistle - there's no particular reason why they'd need to be in pairs. But I reckon Aliona knew she was going to be given a duffer though.

Aliona got Johnny Ball last year and suddenly injured herself 2 weeks in hmm

HRHwheezing Sat 07-Sep-13 20:10:26

The girl from corrie looked good.
I though Ben and Susanna looked marvellous.
Shakes head at Dave and Vanessa.

I do like Chalky and Dave the hairy biker, but I am not sure they are going to be in long. Anton deserved to get the best of the women, after Ann Widdicombe.

TSSDNCOP Sat 07-Sep-13 20:10:59

Well remembered Frankel so she's got til the 27th to do herself in.

Corrie girl will be good, am a bit alarmed by Vanessa.

CeliaFate Sat 07-Sep-13 20:13:45

Marking my place till I catch up.

I'm not an Aliona fan <awaits a flaming from Pan, if he's about>. Her choreography is always "Look at me! Look at me!" rather than working to her partner's strengths. Best female pro was Karen or Flavia.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 07-Sep-13 20:16:24

Karen Hardy you mean? Not the new one, I thought she was a show-off. Her fiancé looks nice and smiley though.

The only ones I'd have done the other way around were Iveta and Kristina, because the heights are a bit out. Not as bad as last year though, so I'll let it slide.

Silverfoxballs Sat 07-Sep-13 20:21:36

All those exotic new dancers and then Kevin from Grimsby, bless him.

forehead Sat 07-Sep-13 20:23:18

Natalie Gumede- the Corrie girl will do well

FamiliesShareGerms Sat 07-Sep-13 20:24:14

Flavia always seems to get the best from her partner (as did Lilia).

Karen Hardy and Erin are both on my Irrational Dislike list. Rachel .Riley might be joining that list on the early showing.

I think Fiona F might do rather well until about half way when the difficulty level jumps up and the real contenders start to show.

skaen Sat 07-Sep-13 20:25:49

I saw the line up of slebs and was a bit disappointed - now I've seen the show I'm all keen again! Hate Brucie, like the Hollyoaks guy and Ben Cohen <shallow>. The new dancer dancing with the guy from Waterloo road look just like DD's Barbie.

I hope Sophie EB does okay.

ItsaTIARA Sat 07-Sep-13 20:30:24

Just caught up with the group dance. Rachel better than I'd feared, Dave even worse. Fiona very good - perhaps in the Pamela/Cherie league. Suzanne looked extremely ropey.

I didn't see much of Mark - possibly they're saving him up for a big surprise "Ooh, gawp at the dancing fatty!" like Lisa's first week ..... or maybe he's crap.

strokethecat Sat 07-Sep-13 20:32:57

Sophie Ellis to go first - she once said on radio, when told Meatloaf was the next guest up, 'Meatloaf? Who is he exactly? He can't even sing.'
Uhhh, 'Murder on the dance floor, blah, blah, oh and la la...'
Yeah, that's a song right there. Blinding lyrics. Well done.
She was on with Steve Wright and he sort of coughed a little and said, 'Moving along then...' Don;t think he knew what to say tbh.

I can not forgive her for her slating of Meat, no matter what your preference in music is, you can not deny, Meat has a voice, a talent. No need to be a bitch - so, Ellis off first.

SuperiorCat Sat 07-Sep-13 20:33:15

Really sad that so many good professional dancers have gone this year.

A fair few friends went to school with Ben and he lives a few villages away so I'm supporting him not just because he is swoonsome

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 07-Sep-13 20:35:41

Sophie's good at strutting, didn't really see her in the group dance tbh.

Apparently, really good models use the proper walks you do in Latin (or something very like them) on the catwalk, so I'm expecting Abby Clancy's rumba to be good!

Yup, I meant Karen Hardy. She was/is a fabulous dancer and her choreography was always top notch. I maintain her AT with Ramps was the best dance ever seen on Strictly, along with Jill and Darren's Jive.

The combination of choreography, music and atmosphere meant the dance just smouldered. If it was any hotter they would have combusted! If you haven't seen it, watch!

SuperiorCat Sat 07-Sep-13 20:39:50

YY Frankel considering how shy Ramps was supposedly it was super hot

Thing is, if you compare all the 10s they hand out in recent series' most of them can't hold a candle to that AT or Jive.

FamiliesShareGerms Sat 07-Sep-13 20:42:54

Frankel, I agree Karen and Ramps ATango was one of the all time top dances. Almost embarrassing to watch it was so hot!

Crutchlow35 Sat 07-Sep-13 20:43:29

I still think Karen should be a judge. I also don't think there has been a better couple than Karen and mark.

FamiliesShareGerms Sat 07-Sep-13 20:44:00

Grade inflation, Frankel. Not like back in the day

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 07-Sep-13 20:45:13

Oh, it was fab. Their salsa was good, but nowhere near that AT, but it's the salsa you usually see.

Chipstick10 Sat 07-Sep-13 20:46:36

Can't stand Sophie Ellis and her equally annoying, irritating mum.
I love Vanessa. She has a beautiful way with words. So educated and it shows. She's funny and witty and quick
Like Debra
Hate Anton
Hate James
Miss flav and Vincent

Not like when we were young eh Families wink

CloudOfStarlings Sat 07-Sep-13 20:49:38

Hello Strictly fans smile <settles down on a comfy chair to watch Strictly til Christmas>

I was laughing my head off at the group dance bless them!! Dave looked shocking!! Haha...he's so cute though. I also LOLed at whoever said vanessa is like Armoir from beauty & the Beast - spot on gringrin

I miss Karen Hardy she was amazing - and totally agree she should've been a judge. there was a big twitter campaign to get her on there as a judge last year but sadly we got darcey instead...who I don't mind but Karen has such better insights into the dancing (her comments on It Takes Two are amazing!)

Can't stand james Jordan and giggled to myself about him getting Vanessa, she'll drive him crazy grin

Early favourites- Brendan & Sophie (I'm a huge Brendan fan grin) Deborah & Robin, Kristina & Ben...loads of exciting pairings!

CloudOfStarlings Sat 07-Sep-13 20:51:06

Ooh I think Fiona Fullerton will be like Felicity Kendal - so elegant and glamorous but whoever said that halfway through she'll be out of her depth was right! But even making 2 or 3 weeks will be a big achievement for Anton grin

thenightsky Sat 07-Sep-13 20:51:33

I can not forgive her for her slating of Meat

^^ this

strokethecat Sat 07-Sep-13 20:52:28

I love Vanessa also - she's an incredibly intelligent woman. And agree chips she has a gift with words, she never comes across as stuffily educated or a know it all either. I like the way she does not care who you are big fish, small fish, she will say it as it is. When she sits in for J Vine, I am with it. When he is on? Would rather poke sticks in my eyes.
Ellis to go first, Vanessa to shine to shut Craig up and Hairy Biker to give us all a good Autumn night giggle.

forehead Sat 07-Sep-13 20:57:06

Agree about Vanessa being a great broadcaster.
She is super intelligent . I love listening to her Radio London
show.

I'm going to roll out a video I thrust at you all every year, just because I think everyone should see it at least once!

If you want to see a Waltz danced beautifully and without any of the faff and cabaret they add on Strictly then watch Chris Hawkins and Joanne Bolton. It's a basic routine, but danced to absolute perfection. It honestly brings tears to my eyes whenever I watch it smile

strokethecat Sat 07-Sep-13 20:58:47

It was years ago thenightsky when one of her ever so deep and poignant tunes came out and she was talking about how it took a real artist to pull off what she did. Wrighty then said Meat was coming on, she said what she said in response. I am still hugely narked over it today.
I do believe Chris Evans retaliated when told on his (then) Tv show and called her a satellite face.

But... Her aside, Strictly returning means autumn is almost here and its time for cold nights, Halloween coming and finally something to watch on telly on Saturday night that is not a rerun of Law and Order SVU...

Ellenora5 Sat 07-Sep-13 21:00:14

Oh no I don't like Vanessa, but to be fair I don't think she will take the criticism to heart, she will give it her all, I do like James though and he did really well with Pamela so you never know, Rachel looked like a rabbit in the headlights, Sophie is a bit full of herself so should suit Brendan.

Thank goodness for sky+, I can ff Bruce, he bores the knickers off me, time he was put out to grass.

Capitola Sat 07-Sep-13 21:00:58

I love Vanessa's Radio London show too.

I hope she does well in SCD.

Pan Sat 07-Sep-13 21:01:47

"I'm not an Aliona fan <awaits a flaming from Pan, if he's about> " angry

strokethecat Sat 07-Sep-13 21:07:07

I was not with you guys last year so have no idea who Pan is, but, Aliona? I am so happy her pink hair has gone!
Shame about Natalie, so graceful and well, long...
We giggled here at Christina hoping against hope not to get a John Sergeant again this year. Bless his soul, he was a great sport.
Brendan seemed to calm down last year? Or is that just my interpretation? Marriage must suit him perhaps?

Karen Hardy is my favourite though its such a shame she's not on it anymore.

And Claudia for It Takes Two, why is Zoe still doing it? I miss Claude and her fringe!

Pan Sat 07-Sep-13 21:08:31

" have no idea who Pan is" angry
grin

Evening Pan grin, I wondered if my comment would draw you out wink

Pan Sat 07-Sep-13 21:14:45

Like a Pavlovian dog.smile

CloudOfStarlings Sat 07-Sep-13 21:16:18

I adore Claudia!! I guess she just had to quit the show when she had her baby; couldn't really ask for a year off then come back... I don't mind Zoe but Claude just really made that show AMAZING!

Really sad about Natalie Lowe too...I didn't like her at all with Scott Maslen or Ricky Whittle as she just came across as obsessed with winning but with Michael Vaughan last year she completely won me over - she was so sweet, patient and just lovely!

<goes off to watch Frankel's video>

digerd Sat 07-Sep-13 21:17:19

The only celeb I recognise is Vanessa. Pleased Anton is partnered with the ex-bond woman.
Unfortunately, my TV on Ch 1 was on the blink and couldn't see much during the group dancesad.

Rather like the look of the rugby guy but didn't see him dance.
I didn't recognise Christina. Was she the short busty one in a mop-type wig hair style?

digerd Sat 07-Sep-13 21:20:40

Oh, yes, Natalie - she was so gorgeously graceful and elegant. She should have partnered the tall black guy. Will really miss her.

CloudOfStarlings Sat 07-Sep-13 21:28:20

Aaah Frankel that was beautiful. I so wish Strictly would go back to basics I get SO narked with all the shitty gimmicks - I'm always shouting at the tele "get on with itttttt!" when those stupid VTs and gimmicky props come on- GRRR! angry

Ooh, let's do more videos...this is my favourite Strictly pro dance just ever...the series 4 pros were the best bunch!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 07-Sep-13 21:37:38

I love that waltz Frankel. The first bit of this is what I'm meant to be aiming for in the rumba <gulp> I can watch it over and over again, doing it...not so much!

My favourite pro dances are probably a toss up between www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYPSdCZHjp8this and this. The second one probably just gets it, because I love the quickstep with everybody at the end.

Pan Sat 07-Sep-13 21:38:33

When is the matching up show? It usually gives soo much away. I've no idea where we are up to.

Great video Cloud, grin @ James with fluffy hair and envy @ Camilla's legs.

I loved Vincent & Flavia's first ever appearance, one of my favourite Tango tunes.

As for other feature appearances, I'm always mesmerised by the way Joanna Leunis moves her body, and the way she spins shock

Horsemad Sat 07-Sep-13 21:53:47

Hello Pan, it's that time of year again. smile

I don't like Sophie EB, hope she goes early; didn't really see who got paired with whom so will watch on iPlayer tomorrow hopefully.

Pan Sat 07-Sep-13 21:59:33

hi horsemad! Am being stretched this year with dd loving X-factor, and wanting to share with her. I might be relegated to a catch up on i-player..sad

Oh I found you! Yay. Dd is already complaining that she has to wait three weeks for it to start properly.

CloudOfStarlings Sat 07-Sep-13 22:10:30

Wow Frankel both amazing vids again...Loved the AT, Flavia is so sexy the way her hair whips over her face <girl crush!>

Pan the matching up show? If you mean when they get their partners it was tonight!

CloudOfStarlings Sat 07-Sep-13 22:11:54

x-post.. Ah I feel for you having to watch X-Factor grin luckily my boys are too little for all this yet- I got them swiftly into bed by 6.45 so I could enjoy SCD in peace grin

Davros Sat 07-Sep-13 22:14:38

I thought Matthew cutler continued to appear in the show fir a year or two but not compete, e.g. Show dances, takes two?
I love Rod, not his best so g but it will do
I hate Claudia, she's always the same with her tired "funny" comments "you're so sweet, look at your little face, " I want to lick your face" etc. I'd love to shave off her fringe

CloudOfStarlings Sat 07-Sep-13 22:18:02

Yeah I think Matthew, Darren & Ian appeared in sort of extra pro dances for maybe one series after they all left...
HA, sorry Davros but apparently we get Claudia for 3 of the proper Saturday show this year while brucie has time off <yay!>

Pan Sat 07-Sep-13 22:18:26

Thanks Cloud, so I'm already behind. No, dd likes the fact that in X-factor they are 'ordinary people trying their best' not 'posh celebs'. I love her for that, amongst other reasons obv. Damn, why does she have to be such a nice person.smile

landrover Sat 07-Sep-13 22:18:31

Arlene Philips was asked once, who is the worse dancer/singer that she has had to teach, apparently it was sophie ellis bexter. Two left feet!

Horsemad Sat 07-Sep-13 22:28:59

Nothing is allowed to stop Strictly being on tv! Everyone gets relegated to other rooms. Missed most of tonight's due to cooking sad

Thank God for iPlayer!

Horsemad Sat 07-Sep-13 22:32:59

My DS2 loves BGT shock If there's one prog I hate it's BGT!

Not a fan of Xfactor either really, just love my Strictly fix of reality tv!

dementedma Sat 07-Sep-13 22:36:05

Didn't like new super skinny female dancer who got the fat guy in the red shirt.
James will be well pisses off at getting Vanessa.
Gutted Robin has Deborah so will go early. He is so HOT!

CloudOfStarlings Sat 07-Sep-13 22:49:47

Yeah I feel for Robin too...Deborah seems lovely but she won't go far, she's no Pamela Stephenson! Though I guess she could surprise us.. Robin deserves one of the hot young things next year!!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 07-Sep-13 22:55:39

I'm sure Iveta wasn't that skinny last year. I didn't realise she was that tall either. Perhaps she's been stretched grin

FamiliesShareGerms Sat 07-Sep-13 23:12:17

Matthew Cutler knocked about for a bit in show dances and twirling around when the guest singer performed type pieces, like Ian Waite did for a while too. But funnily enough Nicole Cutler was never seen again on Strictly after she got the boot and complained about the conditions behind the scenes

FamiliesShareGerms Sat 07-Sep-13 23:13:25

Maybe Iveta has to fit into Natalie's costumes grin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 07-Sep-13 23:29:05

I think Ian gets to hang around because he's Darcey's dance partner of choice, and because Zoe does ITT.

nennypops Sat 07-Sep-13 23:54:24

Dementedma, you do know Robin's gay, don't you?

I read somewhere that the policy is generally to team celebs who've had a year or two getting to or near the final with someone likely to go out early, which is probably why they've put James with Vanessa. He probably is genuinely pleased to have a reasonably restful series in prospect.

My theory is that there's something in Anton's contract that says he will never be teamed with anyone likely to make the final. Either that or they do it deliberately because his Latin dancing is a bit pants.

braveandcrazy Sun 08-Sep-13 08:24:55

Just read in the dreaded DM that it took 5 hours to film the launch show because poor old Bruce isn't up to it, struggling with stage directions and reading names etc. I have a tendency to believe it because I follow a couple of the celebs on twitter and they were up and tweeting in the middle of the night that they filmed it.

It sounds like Tess really has to hold it together, I think she maybe has more presenting skills than we give her credit for, and acts the ditzy blonde for the partnership.

I am hoping Natalie Gumede does well, I'm a big Corrie fan and she acted so well as the evil Kirsty. I liked Mark Benton too in a little known programme called Early Doors a few years ago, anyone remember it?

CloudOfStarlings Sun 08-Sep-13 08:52:06

brave I can well believe that about Bruce! He's terrible with pre-scripted stuff..but did u see the trailer straight after scd for 'when Miranda met Bruce' he cane across as funny & totally with it, as he always does on ITT aswell..he's much better off the cuff, they really need to get rid of him now. I hear you that Tess does hold it together well but sorry I still think she's crap - soo bad at making interviews/comments seem natural, always reading off her little card & stumbling over words. I've said it before but Claudia & Graham Norton should be presenting scd! That would be a dream.

Aw I really warmed to Mark last night he seemed really funny & I reckon he might have some moves!

strokethecat Sun 08-Sep-13 09:06:47

I really like Bruce. I know he dithers and gets things mixed up and his timing on jokes now is something we sort of laugh at. But he's an elderly chap who is still working and although many think he should not be, I admire him for getting up each day and doing something that he loves. His work ethic, the way is is generally a very nice person with no nasty side to him. Put yourself in his shoes, he knows time is running out, when you are his age, time is of great importance. He knows he has not got long left in him to do the thing he loves the most.
To all those who slate him and jeer, 'get off' lets see you at 80 odd being jeered at at being told you are past it and get off (or out or whatever it is you are doing at that age) Its not very nice, is it? If you can't say anything nice then say nothing at all. Say you dislike him by all means but previous threads about Bruce have been very spiteful and horrible to read. Karma will bite you folks - wait till you are 80 and somebody younger than you writes you off in not such a nice manner...

I really like Bruce too, the Generation Game was my favourite programme when I was young and I have always liked him. I agree Tess holds it together to some extent but I find her very wooden.

Natalie Gumede is my favourite too, loved her in Corrie.

WildThongsHeartString Sun 08-Sep-13 10:18:01

Marking my place for 3 weeks time, can't wait.

SelectAUserName Sun 08-Sep-13 11:38:29

My issue with Brucie continuing to do the show is that it feels as though people are laughing at him, not with him. It feels uncomfortable and disrespectful. He was an absolute broadcasting great and now there are people who only know him as this bumbling, stumbling semi-idiot who can barely read an autocue. That's not entertainment in my book.

I hope Vanessa (annoying if she intends to talk back to the judges as she stated) and Tony (I'm not an Aliona fan) go out first, because the others all seem pleasant and fun.

I will try to remember this current feeling of anticipation and goodwill in a couple of months' time when everything from the judging to the music choices to Tess's costumes to Anton making Fiona into a figure of fun is annoying me. grin

Didn't Matthew Cutler get the boot because Evil Moira Ross thought it might be awkward having his winning partner judging him?

Snowstorm Sun 08-Sep-13 13:05:00

Marking place.

NewGirlInTown Sun 08-Sep-13 14:41:11

I think Artem and that Corrie girl will win. He looked pleased as punch to be matched with her, and he has a big fan following in his own right.
Awful awful Bruce and Tess. Please make this the last year for both of them.
I think the male celebs are a huge disappointment this year.

braveandcrazy Sun 08-Sep-13 14:46:46

Did anyone notice if Anton danced in the pro dance? There are 15 pro dancers, leaving 1 male with no professional partner. It makes sense it would be Anton with Erin gone. He may not take part in the pro dances, or they may be choreographed so everyone is not partnered, I suppose.

And yes, it was completely illogical to have a former celeb judging, even though they don't really judge the pros themselves it would have been really awkward up there for Matthew with his new partner. He had to go, I suppose. I think there was a bit of a cull that year, didn't Ian, Darren and Lilia all go in the same year?

Blatherskite Sun 08-Sep-13 14:50:57

Marking place. Love Strictly

brave he was in the Pro dance, though I didn't see him with a partner - he was dancing on the stage with all of the female pros. His Latin is the weakest of the group, understandably bring a ballroom specialist, so I imagine they'll drop one of the other male pros for any ballroom routines.

Maryz Sun 08-Sep-13 15:19:48

I'm a bit late to the party having only watched it this morning.

Can I just express my slight disappointment at lack of lustworthy male celebs this year? I suspect Rugby Player can't dance and Hollyoaks is a bit up himself sad

I think some of the older participants may be very annoying, especially Deborah, Vanessa and Tony Jacklin - though the hairy biker guy seems nice.

Overall, I think it's a disappointing lineup.

And the new professionals are all latin experts, it seems, so the whole show will continue to be a lot more latin than ballroom, which I think is a shame.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 08-Sep-13 15:41:35

I'n guessing Iveta will swap between Anton and somebody else for Latin. I think she favours ballroom, though of course she dances both very well.

braveandcrazy Sun 08-Sep-13 15:52:35

Yes I cannot imagine a pro ballroom dance without Anton involved. There are so many new / recent dancers that there aren't many 'established' professional couples, only James and Ola. I just read that the new supposedly sexy bloke (as in the one who isn't little Kevin, the English guy,) is in a relationship with the new American lady, the one who is partnered with Julian.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 08-Sep-13 15:57:13

Anya is Pasha's partner on the pro comp circuit.

Kevin is engaged to Karen Hauer, so they'll probably dance together too.

braveandcrazy Sun 08-Sep-13 16:00:26

Ooh good info, Polka, I take it Kevin and Karen dance together in competitions too?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 08-Sep-13 16:46:47

Doesn't look like it. He's had four competitive parters, but none of them are her.

Perhaps he met her when they did Burn the Floor? He proposed to her at the end of one of the shows.

braveandcrazy Sun 08-Sep-13 16:53:29

Oh my, how sweet! Thanks for the link.

RedPencils Sun 08-Sep-13 19:17:40

Have only just caught up.

I wish it was back properly next week. I have to watch X factor when strictly isn't on and it makes me want to poke my own eyes out.

Bruce was painful too watch, his scripted jokes are woeful a s he just can't do the autocue. Apparently he's brilliant when he does the off the cuff warm up with the audience before they start filming.

My annual Artem crush is in full swing, though I could be tempted to stray with the new fit pro.

CloudOfStarlings Sun 08-Sep-13 20:28:28

stroke you're so right re Bruce, that documentary on him a few years back was amazing, he does so much to try to keep fit & healthy & he's a legend.. my grandpa is almost 80 & can't walk for long now or get up from sitting easily etc, Bruce is amazing for what he does. I like him a lot & would never be spiteful about him..my issue is simply that I squirm watching him & I do not enjoy that feeling grin

Anton is definitely partnering Iveta in ballroom.

maryz I thought rugby dude looked like he had rhythm in the group dance..time will tell! But yes male lineup definitely disappointing, I think the producers are after a female winner this year after 2 male ones in a row.

SelectAUserName Sun 08-Sep-13 20:29:12

Maybe later in the season Anton might do some pro dances with Natalie, if her foot recovers in time - she's a ballroom specialist.

SelectAUserName Sun 08-Sep-13 20:29:59

Aha, x-post with CloudofStarlings

CloudOfStarlings Sun 08-Sep-13 22:20:05

Oh you're right select, Natalie has said she could be back in a few weeks, that would be lovely. Although she danced with Brendan the last couple of seasons I think.

The Pros usually start their rehearsals in early August because they ave to get as many of the group dances choreographed as possible before they start rehearsing with their celebs. In which case Aliona has a heck of a lot of catching up to do, unless as others have said, Natalie will come back for some of the later ones. Do we know what her injury is?

JumpingJackSprat Mon 09-Sep-13 07:57:22

i like the new pro kevin ... looks really sweet. i dont like the pro thats partnered with julian after she referred to herself as sexy. no. pretty much all the other pros are more sexy than her. such arrogance she should be ok with julian!!

SpanishFly Mon 09-Sep-13 09:17:58

Sophie Ellis Bextor looked gangly rather than elegant. And she already came across as being completely up herself in that one episode.
And poor Mark Benton didn't get to say anything at all to Bruce/Tess cos they'd run out of time. I love him - I hope he's not the one they make a joke of.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Mon 09-Sep-13 11:25:38

She's fractured two bones in her left foot Frankel. She says here she'll do all the group dances and Aliona will just do the competition.

dementedma Mon 09-Sep-13 12:25:42

I know Robin is gay but....<swoons anyway>

noddyholder Mon 09-Sep-13 12:47:42

I love Strictly esp in the height of winter when it really gets going. The corrie girl looks good and so does Abby clancy

digerd Tue 10-Sep-13 09:32:48

Managed to find a repeat showing on You Tube of the group dance that I couldn't see as TV is on the blink.
But much chopping and changing with camera angles.
Vanessa, oh dear, can hear Craig saying" when you dance your feet must come together, yours were in second position all the time, darling".

Corrie girl has definitely had stage dance training, knows how to present herself to an audience and has talent. Judges will love her.
New kevin is cute and sweet, but the other new man is so dynamic.

Didn't get a good look at any other celebs.

RedPencils Tue 10-Sep-13 18:15:44

Dementedma - that bit the group dance when Robin picked up the girl pro and threw her to Artem to catch. <swoons>

MCos Sat 14-Sep-13 00:12:14

JumpingJackSprat - give Janette a chance until the series gets going. The 'Sexy Latino Baby' stuff is America Speak... (Blow your own trumpet vs still upper lip). I saw her on US SYTYCD, before her Burn the Floor days. She was a feisty little firecracker sweetheart then.

MCos Sat 14-Sep-13 00:48:58

I've seen Anja, Janette & Iveta complete on US version of So You Think You Can Dance (along with Pasha, Artem & Karen..). I love them all, particularly Anja! Am really looking forward to the new season!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 14-Sep-13 01:10:25

You have to admit though, putting her intro on after Iveta's was, perhaps, not the best way to show her off.

After "I'm a two times world ten dance champion", "I've danced in Glee!" doesn't really sound very impressive...

MisguidedAngel Sat 14-Sep-13 12:56:02

Artem for me ....

I couldn't believe how ghastly Tess's outfit was. The wardrobe people do so well for most of the dancers, why not for her? She's got the figure, she used to be a model, it can't be that hard to dress her. She looked really good in the RT too.

I agree with others upthread about Brucie - yes, he's wonderful for his age, blah blah - but now he's just embarrassing. Thank goodness for ff.

I'm disappointed I thought it was on tonight but appears not

knottyhair Sat 14-Sep-13 15:53:57

Littlemiss, it doesn't start until Friday 27th. 2 more weeks to go!

Oh no that's rubbish!

Davros Sat 14-Sep-13 21:26:00

How stupid to have an intro programme weeks before it actually starts. I can't see the sense I. That other than giving them more time to practise. I don't care if they need more time, it should be on now or not start until its ready to go out, grrrrr

SpanishFly Sun 15-Sep-13 22:16:09

Davros, theyve done this for the past few years at least - they have a "launch" show where they get to meet their partners, then have a few weeks to practise with them.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sun 15-Sep-13 22:55:11

I think I preferred it when they did a launch show the week before. They had the best bits from the last series and footage of them meeting their partners, and doing the publicity shots. Series six was like that.

I find this all a bit... drawn out.

It is very drawn out.

Davros Sun 15-Sep-13 23:44:32

I've blanked out that they did it before. I shall remain outraged! grin

CloudOfStarlings Mon 16-Sep-13 09:15:31

I think they do it this way now just to compete with X Factor, so Strictly is in people's minds before it actually starts..as X Factor always starts earlier. Personally I quite like seeing them find out who their partner is & then the anticipation of waiting a couple of weeks til it starts, makes it all last longer smile

Have we worked out whether it'll be a 4 couple final again though? Cos that I really didn't like, it was crap how Dani & Vincent just got shoved aside coming in 4th place, not part of the 'final 3' or the group dance by the other celebs.

CloudOfStarlings Wed 25-Sep-13 16:03:09

So has everyone been watching the First Steps vids on BBC site? I'm impressed by Patrick he looks really good! Some pretty shocking ones in there but really good partnerships, can't wait for Friday!! (actually will be Saturday for me as I'm out Friday so planning a marathon viewing of both shows on Sat, heaven!)

Echocave Wed 25-Sep-13 19:07:12

I haven't got my SCD groove on yet! I need to start watching some dancing (not all the filler). I record this and fast forward through all the Bruce/Tess/Darcey stuff. Can watch it in half the time!

I hope Mark Benton's ok, I love him. Totally agree that Fiona will be quite good but half way through it will get too difficult (mind you, I thought that about Pamela Stevenson - how wrong I was!). I think Vanessa will be funny in the face of the judge's comments. My least favourite people so far are Julian (have seen him being unnecessarily bitchy in some other show - project runway! Sheesh must get out more) and Susanna Reid. But that's because I used to know her and didn't like her.
I'm sure she's proper charming now though...

Just re-marking my place.

So excited for tomorrow now. smile

fjp1984 Fri 27-Sep-13 11:06:47

I'm also waiting for Saturday - hate having to wait the extra day to see everyone perform.
Gonna be hard ignoring the telly tonight though

carabos Fri 27-Sep-13 14:08:32

"Six weeks after his first wife's death, Jacklin met a 16-year-old waitress named Donna Methven at a golf tournament in England. Jacklin later said: "I was at my lowest ebb and Donna was a shoulder to cry on." They had a two-month affair which led to front-page headlines in British tabloid newspapers."

magicstar1 Fri 27-Sep-13 21:40:33

I'm sooooo excited that Strictly is back...especially Artem drool

I think they should stick to just having cha cha and waltz in week 1 though. It makes it more even between the couples. Susannah would have done a great jive in a few weeks...totally unfair to have that dance in the first week.

NotAQueef Fri 27-Sep-13 21:41:04

Ooh Jive - hard for week 1.
A few mins behind now, but thought that was quite clever choreography as there weren't that many kicks and flicks (where technique or lack of really shows) <tries and fails to sound knowledgeable> definitely one that Susannah should do it again if she gets to final <doubtful>

DameEdnasBridesmaid Fri 27-Sep-13 21:41:06

Noseynoonoo Fri 27-Sep-13 21:56:00

I read am article in which Natalie said that she was going to be a dancer until she suffered an injury at 19. Doesn't seem like a level playing field.

Alibabaandthe40nappies Fri 27-Sep-13 21:56:16

I think that they should only do two different dances each week, because then it is fairer and easier to compare the couples.

candycoatedwaterdrops Fri 27-Sep-13 21:56:22

Natalie does have a background in dance, although she had played it down.

NotAQueef Fri 27-Sep-13 21:56:32

Of course she's danced before - I remember her saying something like she had to give it up at 19 (or 16) - that is still potentially a lt of years of dance training. Hardly fair.

The problem is that Latin will always look more flashy compared to the Ballroom, but Ballroom is so much harder. There's more to think about with the timing, foot placement, etc. Latin you can cover a lot up if you can shake your arse! grin

awaynboilyurheid Fri 27-Sep-13 22:17:34

THanks for that magicstar1 so hoped Kara and Artem still together loved watching them dance, Natalie good and Susannah was better than I thought apart from that terrible cartwheel and agree she was flat footed at times but certainly the best breakfast TV presenter, thinks of horrible images of previous ones Fiona Phillips (and even worse if possible) Kate Garroway.

digerd Fri 27-Sep-13 22:18:49

Yes to Pasha, Artem does nothing for me. But Harry was cute, hunky and yummy. Everybody looks odd on my wiggly TV picture this year. Didn't recognise Darcy in that wig/new hair style at all.
I could still recognise stage dance training in the Corrie girl, though, especially in her presentation but couldn't see anything else due to awful picture.

RedPencils Fri 27-Sep-13 22:27:28

Yay. Strictly is back, I'm sooooooooo excited.
They were all ok tonight, the duds must be on tomorrow.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 28-Sep-13 00:18:32

I still think Pasha looked best in the first series, before he had that stupid haircut.

You can't even see Artem past the gleam off his gnashers any more.

CloudOfStarlings Sat 28-Sep-13 08:32:15

You can all have Artem & Pasha.. I'm ALL about Brendan Cole..the way he said "that was PHENOMENAL" in Sophie's ear after their dance? <faints>

RedPencils Sat 28-Sep-13 18:06:21

If Artem's busy, pasha would be a more than adequate substitute. I love Robin too but I think I might have my work cut out there.

digerd Sat 28-Sep-13 18:55:21

Kevin is quite cute in a sweet way. Artem's teeth put me off him last year. BBC1 picture still on the blink and engineer cannot come until Tuesday. Think I need a new TV and in HD. I did buy it in 1998.
I can see the training bits but they all act stupid and dance badly on purpose so we are impressed on the night.

Hi-de-hi!

DH is cooking while I watch the show. This is good (and sounds lovely, cod in a chikpea tomato sauce thing), BUT

he's complaining that

the garlic we have is a jar of minced stuff, rather than actual bulb of cloves, and
the tinned tomatoes aren't "chopped".

Are there different singers tonight- thought last nights were much better?
I want to strangle Julien- Bruno is right-' posturing and posing'!!

icecubed Sat 28-Sep-13 19:49:24

My 6 yo DS thinks Julien is mad shock

Chipstick10 Sat 28-Sep-13 19:49:51

Omg I'm cringing.

Impomea Sat 28-Sep-13 19:50:10

Craig is in a really bad mood tonight-love it.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 28-Sep-13 19:50:11

That's Jannette Manrara. Agree they are very loud.

coffeeinbed Sat 28-Sep-13 19:50:49

Bruno was cringeworthy.
and Craig went too far with Hairy Dave

Horsemad Sat 28-Sep-13 19:51:08

Crikey, he's hyper!

Chipstick10 Sat 28-Sep-13 19:51:19

Why does he keep shouting?

I think they were a bit stuck on heights though, he needs somebody small.

(Having said that, they didn't seem to bother about that with the girls.)

Horsemad Sat 28-Sep-13 19:52:40

Julian's certainly a handful!

kansasmum Sat 28-Sep-13 19:52:44

SHUT BRUCE UP! please......someone...!!!!

magicstar1 Sat 28-Sep-13 19:56:06

I can't stand Julian! He's too shouty and irritating. The sooner he and his sparkles leave the better.

17leftfeet Sat 28-Sep-13 19:56:28

She was better than I was expecting

TheSmittenKitten Sat 28-Sep-13 19:56:35

She is doing well.

Isit just me, or are the male dancers chubbier this year?

Posture is going to be Debra's issue.

Horsemad Sat 28-Sep-13 19:57:26

Didn't think that music would work but was pleasantly surprised.
The dance wasn't too bad.

Chipstick10 Sat 28-Sep-13 19:57:43

I like deb.

RedPencils Sat 28-Sep-13 19:59:18

Am I hearing things or Did Bruce just call Robin a puff?

Ooh he's a bit of alright.

ggirl Sat 28-Sep-13 19:59:31

Meadham looks alot older than 54 !

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 28-Sep-13 20:01:16

He seems nice, and I like Anya so far as well.

TheSmittenKitten Sat 28-Sep-13 20:01:34

As that what that whole out of puff gag was about. I could see Robin was underwhelmed.

chemistry, a bit?

TheSmittenKitten Sat 28-Sep-13 20:02:11

Ooh Patrick is good!!!

Patrick's a bit frantic and he's kicking from the hips rather than his knees. Otherwise not bad.

HRHwheezing Sat 28-Sep-13 20:03:07

Great! Love patrick

magicstar1 Sat 28-Sep-13 20:03:58

Patrick was good but I thought the choreography was terrible.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Sat 28-Sep-13 20:04:09

Ah, but lest we forget Frankel, jive is a very hard dance for the tall male celebrities...

(even though he probably has natural rhythm hmm)

katatonic Sat 28-Sep-13 20:04:41

Ah how could I forget the jive cliches Polkadots wink

derektheladyhamster Sat 28-Sep-13 20:06:28

OOh Patrick is apparently the father of one of the girls in my son's year. I did suggest he asked her out and then I could get tickets. He wasn't impressed by the idea grin

digerd Sat 28-Sep-13 20:07:32

Well, the black guy was good and as he pointed his toes on the flicks, he has obviously had some ballet training imo. He will have difficulty in the ballroom with his posture as his partner is too short for him. He should have had a taller partner.

HRHwheezing Sat 28-Sep-13 20:08:16

I like Vanessa, but dislike James

Horsemad Sat 28-Sep-13 20:08:21

Patrick's jive was pretty good, must be difficult to do.

Horsemad Sat 28-Sep-13 20:09:10

VF looks like she's pissed at a wedding!

TheSmittenKitten Sat 28-Sep-13 20:10:01

These dancers love themselves, eh?

kansasmum Sat 28-Sep-13 20:10:16

Dear oh dear Vanessa!!! It certainly won't impress Craig much!hmm

katatonic Sat 28-Sep-13 20:10:45

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

To be fair, if you are a professional dancer you have to "love yourself". No room for wallflowers on the dancefloor!

kansasmum Sat 28-Sep-13 20:14:40

fancyanother Sat 28-Sep-13 20:16:44

Are Bruces jokes just getting worse andworse, or is it just me? He's gone past embarrasing old uncle now. The crowd don't even laugh anymore!

TheSmittenKitten Sat 28-Sep-13 20:16:44

Abbie seems nice

RedPencils Sat 28-Sep-13 20:16:59

Never liked James. He's always been a bit humourless, despite all his hilarious banter.

kansasmum Sat 28-Sep-13 20:17:59

The girl can dance though

Lack of body contact and Craig won't like that she didn't point her toe in that leg extension.

RussiansOnTheSpree Sat 28-Sep-13 20:18:22

I'm a bit shock at the people saying they like Vanessa and not James.

RedPencils Sat 28-Sep-13 20:18:29

She's better than I thought she was going to be.

HRHwheezing Sat 28-Sep-13 20:18:37

That was good but I still don't like her

Horsemad Sat 28-Sep-13 20:21:28

digerd Sat 28-Sep-13 20:41:37

Abby hasn't danced before? Rubbish! She and that dress looked stunning.

SuperiorCat Sat 28-Sep-13 20:45:47

Oh I'm so happy Strictly is back.

digerd Sat 28-Sep-13 20:46:51

Her 96 year-old Grandmother looked amazing for her age. Better than the Dragon who also surprised me. But there were no hips glued together and the gap became wider.

megcleary Sat 28-Sep-13 20:52:54

What was Bruce roaring about over the credits!!!

digerd Sat 28-Sep-13 20:53:54

The film Atlantis is on and my picture is fine, so what is up with the Strictly transmission, I wonder? sad

sassytheFIRST Sat 28-Sep-13 20:54:44

sassytheFIRST Sat 28-Sep-13 20:56:52

Of course it was - the song sung when Leo and Claire spot each other thro the fish tank. I see it every year - English teacher - and just couldn't place it! Thanks.

MummyofIsla Sat 28-Sep-13 20:59:38

Really didn't think i'd life Abbie but she was surprising. Very able and seems quite nice too. It would be a bit unfair if she doesn't do well simply because people have a preconception that they won't like her.

MummyofIsla Sat 28-Sep-13 20:59:54

*like

mysticminstrel Sat 28-Sep-13 21:00:37

The Puff gag was a dragon reference- SURELY??

Dragon's Den..Puff the magic dragon? At least that's how I interpreted it

Mystic Bruce did say it meaning Puff the Magic Dragon, but then added to the double entendre by saying "I said Puff!"

sassytheFIRST Sat 28-Sep-13 21:02:17

I thought Abi seemed nicer than I expected. And also like a person who has had A LOT of private lessons since her agent confirmed she had a place on Strictly!

TheSmittenKitten Sat 28-Sep-13 21:02:34

Yeah, but he then clarified saying something about meanng her, not him. Grrrr

mysticminstrel Sat 28-Sep-13 21:03:16

AH, I missed that bit, sorry blush

sassytheFIRST Sat 28-Sep-13 21:03:55

And WHY is Deborah Measden on it? Doesn't need cash or exposure! Surely this doesn't mean some people go in the show just for the experience? shock

TheSmittenKitten Sat 28-Sep-13 21:08:55

I might have misheard, but that is what I thought he said.

Alibabaandthe40nappies Sat 28-Sep-13 21:10:49

sassy - maybe just because she could and she wanted to? She is so successful and she must have done so many things - it must be hard to find something new and challenging to do.

I didnt think there were rules about who should and shouldnt take part - they're making a teevee show, they want personalities.

sassytheFIRST Sat 28-Sep-13 21:14:06

<needs a tongue-in-cheek emoticon> wink

sassytheFIRST Sat 28-Sep-13 21:15:39

Haha - I typed a response ending in that wink and now only the wink shows!

My tongue was in my cheek re Deborah, ladies.

chickydoo Sat 28-Sep-13 21:53:43

Marking my place really, but.....I don't think the celebs are quite as good as previous years, more people who can't dance than can IMO....we shall see I guess

PumpUpMyVolume Sat 28-Sep-13 22:16:00

Ashley still my favourite (so pretty smile )... although some were ok, none wow'd me tonight and am looking forward to seeing people improve over the weeks as for most of them, the only way is up!

What got into Bruce - he seemed to be saying people were going backwards instead of forwards at the 'keeeeep dancing' bit! Seriously that man needs to retire!!

CloudOfStarlings Sat 28-Sep-13 23:41:42

Only just caught up.. I actually got a teensy bit bored in tonight's show (and for me to say that is a big deal..I'm a superfan!) think the choreography, song choices and chemistry were all just v lacklustre sad However Dave absolutely cracked me up..proper funny man, and Karen really going for it, mark of a true pro (unlike sour-faced Aliona)..I'm surprised at people's reaction on here!
My sister has been texting me saying Julien is clearly high... but then he's like that every time I've seen him on tv so either he's always high...or he's just a very strange man! Zoe never quite knew what to make of him in his ITT slots last year..
Abbey was the dance of the week for me, and I don't like the pair of them. Just beautiful, simple, gorgeous song & outfits.

BrunoMarsBar Sun 29-Sep-13 04:19:03

Natalie - can dance ringer - Artem fan fave but their chemistry?
Abbey - left me strangely unmoved graceful though
Rachel - thought it was lovely definite chemistry
Sophie - mannequin decent hold
Susanna - good but frenzied, that cartwheel and likeability?
Patrick - excellent imho but fanbase?
Mark - very good as an underdog despite stage exp. but latin?
Fiona - OK not great hold, Anton steered her thru but Anton's latin?
Deb - Some good bits but Robin worked his arse off
Ashley - let's ogle Ola, go on about baby being due and smile a lot Ugh
Julien - exc armography but like marmite Voted out due to manic pers.?
Tony - only did 12 secs of waltz but routine Aliona cleverly choreoed
Dave - will stay as the Russell Grant John Sergeant carcrash tv wreckage
Vanessa - not good, stood around a lot
Ben - will stay in as eye candy but practically walked his cha cha/Kristina worked her arse off

Fave slebs - Rachel Patrick Mark
Fave pros - Artem Robin Aliona Kristina

Think Vanessa First female out Tony unfairly First male out
Most overrated Ashley then sadly Ben
Most underrated Patrick (not on scores but prob votes long term)

Final: Natalie Rachel Abbey
4th: Susanna
Ben Ashley will make later stages by default
Dave will stay in longer than ought to as #entertainment

Now off to make brew get a life grin xx

Fiderer Sun 29-Sep-13 07:11:59

I'd no idea who some of them are and tend to be v judgmental based on a bit of VT and in Natalie's case, 2 seconds of backstage behaviour. She was doing that impatient finger rolling on her partner's shoulder as Bruce made his hammy remarks. Bad form.

Abbey - can't decide if she's pouty and stroppy or if she was really nervous. And with the floaty dress and what looked face-sucking half the time I don't know if she did any kind of a decent waltz though it did look pretty.

Also, dancey people, Aliona used to be criticised for choreographing for herself rather than her partner. I thought tonight was OK for Tony. Was it?

I must be mellowing, I enjoy Bruce and felt sorry for him the last 2 nights. He seemed anxious to show he was on top of things with his comments to the contestants re their dancing and his quips. And I was pleased that Brendan got a partner who can dance.

Yakky Sun 29-Sep-13 07:51:39

12 hours later and I'm still blush for Juliens partner. Looked like she was trying to reign in an over excited toddler.
My DD also thinks he's completely bonkers.....and that was before he started his routine.

saintmerryweather Sun 29-Sep-13 08:01:56

what i wouldnt give to dance with robin
