Anyone else looking forward to this tonight? I love Martin Clunes in this! Even DH likes it ( but still pretends not to!)

waikikamookau Mon 02-Sep-13 08:24:18

BIT Nervous in case it has been ruined

Chipstick10 Mon 02-Sep-13 09:19:20

I think it's already been ruined. It got more than ridiculous last time round. He became quite dislikable. I didn't enjoy the last series. Hope it's improved.

mrsjay Mon 02-Sep-13 09:53:33

I am looking forward to it is the few programmes me and the dds watch together, not sure how they could ruin it, I hope he marrys louisar she can knock some of his miserableness out of him

Sleepyhoglet Mon 02-Sep-13 18:44:16

Love it! I want to be Louisa!

susiedaisy Mon 02-Sep-13 19:13:20

Yep looking forward to itsmile

I don't know if I'll get to see it tonight, but I'm a fan. Makes a change from all the other tv that's on.

Sleepyhoglet Mon 02-Sep-13 21:39:49

Wimpy kiss. Were their lips even touching?!

Witco Mon 02-Sep-13 21:44:34

It's dragged on a bit and is cheesy but it makes a change from violence and swearing. Christ, I'm becoming my mother!

LaFataTurchina Mon 02-Sep-13 21:47:02

Where did he get that torch from?!

I like Louisa's wedding dress though - I like sleeves.

sonlypuppyfat Mon 02-Sep-13 21:50:31

I love him he is beautiful, but the storys are silly

Sleepyhoglet Mon 02-Sep-13 22:11:29

I thought the doc wasn't good with blood. He seems to be coping well with quite a lot tonight.

wintera Mon 02-Sep-13 23:23:02

He got over his blood problem a couple of series ago but I was reading an interview with Martin Clunes the other day who said it might reoccur this series so there you go. Same interview said that MC lost a few stone before filming began again but then he got very ill so lost even more weight. So if you thought he looked a bit pale and pasty looking then that's why. I really liked Louisa's dress it was lovely. Shame it got wrecked though!

I kept thinking the wedding as a dream as Louisa want wearing any earrings and didn't look as beautiful as she did in her other wedding.

Otherwise it really dragged on, silly story. Really wanted it to be good.

waikikamookau Tue 03-Sep-13 07:07:29

i thought wedding was a dream, it was a bit cringe inducing, why did they have to leave the lodge for their luggage?
but it was ok in the end. made us chuckle.

They left the lodge because Martin had tried to light the fire and the chimney was blocked and caused all the soot and smoke to fill the lodge.

He left to find a phone to call Bert to take them home. ( I think)

Why did he look so angry during the wedding, no hymns or readings or anything. Also neither of their parents were present at the wedding. They have all featured in other episodes so we know they exist. Possibly Martins father died in one episode, can't remember.

waikikamookau Tue 03-Sep-13 07:28:18

I know sizzle. that is the problem with tv programmes. the parents are there for a couple of episodes, but something major like a wedding or a funeral, they have vanished. daft.

wintera Tue 03-Sep-13 07:46:19

Martin doesn't have a good relationship with his parents though. Claire Bloom played his mum and seem to remember her saying really awful things to him when they visited once. Auntie Joan was more like a mother to him.

Louisa's Dad is a dodgy criminal isn't he? Think he may even be in prison. Am sure there was an ep when he came back but the village hated him after he stole a load of money from them or something like that. However, Louisa's Mum was in the last series so she should have been there really, that did seem strange. Maybe the actress was busy filming something else.

What was the power cut at Martins house all about? Why was the whole village there? Do you think we will see more of the electrician? He looks like a new character.

wintera Tue 03-Sep-13 08:53:55

Yeah it was all a bit daft but I have to say, I did like the scenes between Eileen Atkins and the very cute babies. I say babies as I'm sure there were two different ones!

JustBecauseICan Tue 03-Sep-13 10:14:12

Dd and I were so looking forward to it, it's her first "grown up" tv series. It was a bit rubbish I thought. I hope they are going to get back to normal and cut out the ridiculous slapstick.

Eileen Atkins seems always to be on the verge of shagging the young whippersnappers she gets to come round with spanners, which would be most untoward.

Claire Bloom is going to come back. I read it in the Express. grin

I also read that they are all doing some charity thing because one of the babies has some nasty condition. sad The baby was really funny last night though.

wintera Tue 03-Sep-13 10:32:13

Eileen Atkins had the chance of shagging Colin Farrell in real life once. She turned him down lol!

JustBecauseICan Tue 03-Sep-13 10:37:51

That electrician better watch himself. I kept thinking she was going to shag Thingy (Bert's lad) in the last series.

I quite fancy PC Penhale

susiedaisy Tue 03-Sep-13 13:03:41

Thought the policeman was quite funnysmile

dingit Tue 03-Sep-13 13:18:21

Watching it now smile

missbopeep Tue 03-Sep-13 13:43:05

It was dire. I watched some of the earlier series and can't believe how it's gone downhill.

Doc Martin has turned into mr Bean with his gurning and silly antics.

It's not even believable any more. Complete tosh.

Clawdy Tue 03-Sep-13 14:15:02

It was a bit silly and over the top but I felt the heart of it is hopefully still there. Nice to see virtually all the original cast back. And Port Isaac looked beautiful as ever.

What missbopeep said.

Shame really, I used to love Doc Martin.

waikikamookau Tue 03-Sep-13 15:10:15

I never saw the first series, I saw the previous one, twice, although I did used to watch it with the previous receptionist from the IT crowd, she is really good.
should I buy the box set?

MaryMotherOfCheeses Tue 03-Sep-13 22:06:45

What a pile of cringeable crap.

Just watched half of it now, couldn't bear to watch the rest.

Have enjoyed previous series but won't be watching this one.

I just Do Not Get why she would marry him. They don't get on. There is no moment where they make each other happy.

And prancing around the woods "ooh won't it be funny with her in a wedding dress"...

No. It wasn't.

missbopeep Wed 04-Sep-13 07:18:08

I agree.

It was so bad it was an insult to anyone with half a brain cell who thought that the antics were funny.

Wooden, cliched characters, dire script (with Clunes as I said before as Mr Bean- all grimaces and no dialogue) predictable plot, beyond believable storyline. God, who writes this crap for prime time TV?

It's as if it were written by a Year 4 child- no, hang on, a year 4 child could do better.

dingit Wed 04-Sep-13 09:05:28

Something tells me this will be the last series. They have run out of ideas!

wintera Wed 04-Sep-13 09:47:02

To be honest I was really surprised it came back for a new series. Really thought it was finished after the last series. They should have just done a one off special were they got married, put a bit more effort into it, and left it at that. It would have been a good way to finish it. Its just dragging on now.

wintera Wed 04-Sep-13 09:48:26

Waikiki - the first few series are definitely much better.

I used to love this too but thought this series was odd.
Louisa's character went all weird in the woods with her mocking him when they came across that horse.

As if you'd leave a cottage in the middle of nowhere in the night they could have just opened the doors and windows.

I preferred the scenes with the baby and Al coming round. I like Al...also that new electrician wink

FruOla Tue 10-Sep-13 08:47:06

So, do we think the new electrician is going to somehow become the nanny/childminder? And are Al and Morwena going to get together?

The scene with the baby monitor was so obviously going to happen!

I love PC Penhale too blush

wintera Wed 11-Sep-13 14:22:06

Bit better this week but still not up to old standards. I don't think their marriage will last either. Al will probably end up with Morwenna, just because he always ends up with the receptionist!

FruOla Wed 11-Sep-13 15:17:17

Agreed, wintera, there are only so many story lines before it gets silly. Remember Monarch Of The Glen, it was great in the early days but then it got ridiculous?

JustBecauseICan Wed 11-Sep-13 15:25:26

I think they need to go back to the doc-patient stories rather than the frankly ludicrous Louisa-Doc story.

(did anyone else notice the school seems to have 25 kids and about 11 teachers?)

(and Louisa is so flaky there is no way she would be head)

Kikithecat Wed 02-Oct-13 14:56:28

Glad to see a few of you lusting after PC Penhale. Makes me feel better about fancying Barry Barry off Waterloo Road.

FruOla Wed 02-Oct-13 16:06:49

Well, Kikithecat, PC Penhale surpassed himself this week didn't he?! I still like him though, even though he's slightly bonkers - in an 'ever so' nice kind of way grin

Kikithecat Sat 05-Oct-13 10:33:27

He definitely needs a good woman to look after him. Not me though. <wanders back to Waterloo Road>.

CMP69 Sun 06-Oct-13 15:52:29

Very very disappointed sad angry

susiedaisy Mon 14-Oct-13 19:22:51

I'm enjoying it but think that the Doc and Louisa have a very strange marriage!

carabos Mon 14-Oct-13 20:18:46

Has anyone else noticed that all the female characters wear masses and masses of make up? They're made up like oscar winners all the time and the clothes seem really out if place too.

mrsjay Mon 14-Oct-13 21:50:54

it isnt looking for for louisa is it shock

Kikithecat Wed 23-Oct-13 09:02:38

So what did we think of the end of Doc Martin? I thought it was quite touching and realistically uncertain (unlike the rest of the series which was farcical - though I was still glued to it).
Would have like a schmaltzy ending really though!

mrsjay Wed 23-Oct-13 09:07:16

I liked the ending and bless MArtin and his tear his mothers appearance then stealing the clock was a bit pointless showed her greed though, I feel sorry for him a little bit it isn't his fault he is the way he is, I actually hate the policeman in it he is just rubbish I know it is meant to be comedy but good god he is so annoying

Kikithecat Wed 23-Oct-13 09:09:58

Oh I forgot about Penhale (how couldI??). No he's only annoying because nobody's nice to him! He just needs a good friend and a wife and he'd soon turn normal. Trust me I'm a psychiatrist (and Miss Tishall is a brain surgeon).

FruOla Wed 23-Oct-13 09:19:16

Wasn't PC Penhale going to get married a couple of series back? But she jilted him before the wedding?

mrsjay Wed 23-Oct-13 09:22:34

I cant remember I remember his wife appeared well his ex wife was that the last series ? but he didnt want her back in the end,

Kikithecat Wed 23-Oct-13 09:24:38

I think the previous (hapless) PC may have been jilted?

lagoonhaze Wed 23-Oct-13 09:25:57

They need to get the poor baby a car seat and not use the pushchair seat chassis!

mrsjay Wed 23-Oct-13 09:27:00

we didnt watch from the start I only know penhale,

FruOla Wed 23-Oct-13 09:28:43

I think you're right, I've just been doing a bit of Googling and it appears there was an ex-wife who turned up.

Kikithecat Wed 23-Oct-13 09:31:19

Yep, here he is, PC Mark Mylow

FruOla Wed 23-Oct-13 09:32:41
mrsjay Wed 23-Oct-13 09:32:55

I don't remember him

FruOla Wed 23-Oct-13 09:36:28

Wasn't it PC Mylow's 'stag-do' that went wrong (he was going to marry his new GF who was pregnant, but it turned out he wasn't the father - or something like that)? He and Al went for a hike in the woods, got lost and PC Mylow got bitten by a snake. Al had to find higher ground to get a mobile signal to phone the Doc. The Doc couldn't find them, but the day was saved by the appearance of the gamekeeper?

Kikithecat Wed 23-Oct-13 09:38:17

Now I like Mark Mylow, and I like Joe Penhale, but who is best? There's only one way to find out...

Kikithecat Wed 23-Oct-13 09:39:28

Yes Fruola that sounds about right. Glad to see someone knows their Doc Martin [looks sideways at MrsJay].

FruOla Wed 23-Oct-13 09:42:23

Here we go Lost in the woods

Kikithecat Wed 23-Oct-13 10:10:55

Ah yes it's all coming back now...

susiedaisy Wed 23-Oct-13 14:41:49

Was that the last one??confused

Kikithecat Wed 23-Oct-13 14:49:08

Yes definitely the last in the series - but the last ever I should think.

susiedaisy Wed 23-Oct-13 14:57:11

Oh buggar I loved this serieshmm

FruOla Wed 23-Oct-13 17:21:58

It's just got so outlandish now.

Unfortunately the end of the last episode this week leaves the way open for a new series. But I think they've run out of steam - the same way that Monarch Of The Glen got really stupid in the end.

susiedaisy Wed 23-Oct-13 17:56:35

I'd like to think with new characters it could do another series. After all each series is only 6 or 8 episodes long. But I think I read that Martin clunes had to be persuaded to do this last one so not sure if he'd do another

wintera Wed 23-Oct-13 20:01:21

Its gone on for far too long now definitely but they cannot leave it like that! Would be crap. They should have finished it either when Louisa gave birth to baby James or at the end of the last series. This series was a mistake but they've done it now and they can't leave it to end like that. It either needs a new series to tie it all up or a one off special just to finish it once and for all.

susiedaisy Wed 23-Oct-13 21:33:24

Yeah I think you're right a Xmas special to tie up all the loose ends would be great

Agree a xmas special would be good. who knows that may havd been the plan all along.
