Wentworth on Channel 5? I've just finished Orange is the New Black so I'm quite into women's prison dramas blush

nobeer Tue 27-Aug-13 20:25:55

Only if this is the theme tune

I'm intending to. God knows what it'll be like!

Zarqoun Tue 27-Aug-13 20:30:06

The trailer looked like a far cry from the old series which I used to watch after the pub a million years ago

I bet the walls don't wobble when someone slams a door anymore grin

SunshineBossaNova Tue 27-Aug-13 20:30:56

I can't wait smile

Dejected Tue 27-Aug-13 20:41:18

Just set it to record grin

LEMisdisappointed Tue 27-Aug-13 20:46:18

Oooh my dp used to call me b Smith! Hes under the patio now!

SunshineBossaNova Tue 27-Aug-13 21:19:45

Lighthousekeeping Tue 27-Aug-13 21:29:40

Thanks but, I knew she'd been gay in something. I thought it was the L Word but its GreysAnatomy. I love the fact she has a normal shape and doesn't care.

Lighthousekeeping Tue 27-Aug-13 21:31:16

Ha! I'm supposed to be on the Ray Donovan thread! grin

Have set it to record best be good as had to move around some stuff on sky planner could me ages to do

Towanda Tue 27-Aug-13 22:20:57

I've watched the whole series online as I couldn't wait. It's amazing! The best thing I've ever watched, completely different to the old one and the characters are so different its easy to forget the old PCBH. It really is fab, can't wait to watch it again tomorrow!

emmelinelucas Wed 28-Aug-13 19:50:36

I have wine
I have wotsits
I have feelings of intense anticipation and excitement
I am sooo looking forward to 10pm.
Is it really as good as the original ? WOW .

Blondeshavemorefun Wed 28-Aug-13 20:00:30

Yes. Set planner the other week for it

Never watched cell block so am a virgin to prison drama

Apart from Prison break 'swoons' and watches bad girls on repeat on CBS

Loves both so hope this will be good smile

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 22:07:56

I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of theme tune.

I used to love PCBH, so I hope this is good.

SoleSource Wed 28-Aug-13 22:08:28

Im watching C5+1 and I cannot wait! smile

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 22:08:47

Male prison warders! shock Think there was only one of those last time.

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 22:09:56

I am hoping Vinegar Tits makes an appearance.

LEMisdisappointed Wed 28-Aug-13 22:10:29

WTAF? Doreen is hardly the shy little wall flower she was in the original is she??? and what is B doing being all sexy like? I wont mind DP calling me B now!!! and what WERE those girls doing?? shock

BOF Wed 28-Aug-13 22:10:57

Watching now- great stuff!

BOF Wed 28-Aug-13 22:11:32

Ooh, I've just spotted Vinegar Tits!

Towanda Wed 28-Aug-13 22:11:50

The characters are totally, completely different in this. It's faaar darker and grittier. There's a theme tune but its instrumental. It's brilliant, I love it!

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 22:12:09

Yes! Vinegar Tits! I hope they call her that.

LEMisdisappointed Wed 28-Aug-13 22:13:27

So is miss bennet vinegar tits?

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 22:14:22

Yes. Vera "Vinegar Tits" Bennet.

Bea has certainly improved with time!

LEMisdisappointed Wed 28-Aug-13 22:19:00

But vera actually seems quite nice, and who the fuck is that governer woman, i don't remember her!

It's all tits up! Mrs J is guvner, vinegar tits is nice and Erica is a busy body. Wtf??

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 22:19:51

Yes, it is odd to see Vera being nice.

The governor used to just sit in an office.

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 22:20:48

I think I prefer the original.

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 22:22:09

Erica was the governor wasn't she? This is very odd.

Towanda Wed 28-Aug-13 22:22:14

Stick with it, lots of the original character's traits are explained over the series!

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 22:27:02

Ok, I'll trust you. grin

GoshAnneGorilla Wed 28-Aug-13 22:30:47

I loved that they were such hard faced women in the original, I hope the new version isn't all super glad.

BOF Wed 28-Aug-13 22:31:29

The old theme song! grin

I watched the first ep of cell block H just now and it's pretty vicious. But 70s grit is easier to watch then modern grit.

Yay, the song!

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 22:32:31

I'm a couple of minutes behind - is it really true BOF?

LEMisdisappointed Wed 28-Aug-13 22:33:01

Im very confused hmm Im not loving it if im honest

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 22:34:14

Oh my goodness! The song! It has given me goosebumps!

BOF Wed 28-Aug-13 22:35:11

It's true!

I think this is pretty good so far actually, but I think you have to view it as a stand-alone drama rather that looking for it to hit our nostalgia button.

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 22:35:35

Ok, I've caught up during the ad break. Who is the singer? Is it present-day Bea?

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 22:36:36

Yes, I almost wonder why they have used the same names.

Ok, obviously I am wrong about the singer.

travellingwilbury Wed 28-Aug-13 22:39:58

I am liking this but I need to try and forget about the old characters .

I am annoying myself .

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 22:45:40

I feel exactly the same, travelling.

I need to stop thinking back to who is who.

Lizzie Birdsworth has changed a lot too.

Oh bollocks. Don't look it up on Wikipedia whatever you do. The episode guides are very detailed. Sod it.

SunshineBossaNova Wed 28-Aug-13 22:49:37

Lizzie Birdsworth has a great plastic surgeon smile

Lighthousekeeping Wed 28-Aug-13 22:49:50

Oh, you all have god memories! I can't remember the original. Just that my gay friends loved it. It's no Orange but I'm enjoying it.

LEMisdisappointed Wed 28-Aug-13 22:54:43

What is this orange of which you speak?

LEMisdisappointed Wed 28-Aug-13 23:00:06

no no no, i dont like it sad

aristocat Wed 28-Aug-13 23:00:26

Watching it too.

grin Not bad so far......

travellingwilbury Wed 28-Aug-13 23:00:54

Ooooh ! That was good and not in a so shite its good way either which is weird .

It was ok but you really do have to let go of the past, which is a bit daft really because they're selling it on its history. It's a bit violent for me, I'm more of an Inspector morse type of girl. Will watch next week though.

SoleSource Wed 28-Aug-13 23:04:53

Watching now, looks good smile

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 23:08:18

I enjoyed it as far as I could - I was ruining it for myself a bit by remembering the original and wondering why characters were different.

Will keep with it I think, maybe I will be able to let go of the original characters over time.

Lighthousekeeping Wed 28-Aug-13 23:08:58

Orange is the new Black is the Netflix women's prison series. It's fantastic.

BOF Wed 28-Aug-13 23:09:40

It is, isn't it? This one is a lot darker.

Mrscaindingle Wed 28-Aug-13 23:11:46

Have to say I liked it too and didn't really expect to, sequels are usually a disappointment (Dallas anyone?)

Lizzie Birdsworth grin my flatmate used to do a great impression of her, my favourite character was definitely Noleen, she of the dungarees and very gurney face, oh I'm going to have to You tube now and see if there are any old clips [ need a nostalgic emoticon]

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 23:16:28

I'd love to see the original again from the beginning.

I love the new Dallas, Mrscain. Am I alone?

There are episodes on YouTube. I was watching some earlier.

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 23:22:47

Now I know what I'm going to do when DD goes to school next week! grin

Mrscaindingle Wed 28-Aug-13 23:22:54

No Anne I don't think you're alone but maybe in the minority wink

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 28-Aug-13 23:23:47

I love the new Dallas because it is so true to the old characters. I love a bit of nostalgia.

Mrscaindingle Wed 28-Aug-13 23:25:29

Just been on YouTube, Noleen Burke -what a woman! Had forgotten about goody two shoes Meg the other officer who is the pole opposite of vinegar tits.

MrsMinkBernardLundy Wed 28-Aug-13 23:27:28

Brilliant. so glad i spotted this thread.

Mrscaindingle Wed 28-Aug-13 23:27:53

Maybe I never gave the new Dallas a chance, I think I just couldn't really care about the younger characters and they were in it quite a lot at least in the first couple of episodes.

SoleSource Wed 28-Aug-13 23:48:33

Oh it's a bloody ripper! grin

SoleSource Thu 29-Aug-13 00:00:14

Oh dear! poor Bea Smiff!

Kaluki Thu 29-Aug-13 00:22:10

Strooth! I'm hooked!
I loved it - can't wait to see next weeks!!!

SoleSource Thu 29-Aug-13 00:57:12

I wonder if 'The Freak' will make an appearance with her black gloves.

AnneEyhtMeyer Thu 29-Aug-13 07:08:30

I wondered about The Freak too, SoleSource, especially when they did the strip search.

Blondeshavemorefun Thu 29-Aug-13 11:37:39

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh it didnt record sad

is it repeated at all-thanks smile

You can watch it on demand

Blondeshavemorefun Thu 29-Aug-13 12:04:54

duh, didnt think of demand - found it sunday 9pm on 5* but cant till then - thanks gml - fab name btw loved malory towers smile

mrsjay Thu 29-Aug-13 12:42:39

Oh i was looking for a thread this morning, well I thought it was great I know it is violent and sweary but it is probably realistic and the original Prisoner and violence in it was just 1980s violence and the freak used sexual assault all the time to keep the prisoners in line <shudder>

mrsjay Thu 29-Aug-13 12:44:19

*Yes, it is odd to see Vera being nice.

The governor used to just sit in an office.*

I think she is going to get jaded and cynical after what happened at the end last night and start being like good old vera

mrsjay Thu 29-Aug-13 12:45:59

I wonder if 'The Freak' will make an appearance with her black gloves.

apparently she wil be in the next series

So what was the deal with Meg then?

testedpatience Thu 29-Aug-13 13:01:01

I thought it was great but was disappointed that Married with children didnt come on straight after like back in the 80's!

SavoyCabbage Thu 29-Aug-13 13:03:13

I'm a full on proper Prisoner fan, and I liked Wentworth. I've already seen it all cos I live in Australia. Right next to the real Wentworth, that's how much I love it. grin

mrsjay Thu 29-Aug-13 13:05:47

I thought it was great but was disappointed that Married with children didnt come on straight after like back in the 80's!

THANK YOU me and the husband were wondering what we watched just after it ,

oh savoy do you I was hooked right away watching it sometimes new programmes take a while to warm up,

TukTuk Thu 29-Aug-13 15:24:06

I thought this was great . Never watched the original except for stumbling upon episodes in the early hours back in the day .

mrsjay Thu 29-Aug-13 16:00:17

I know it is going to be violent and i know there is going to be swearing in it but I think I like that it isn't a fluffy womens drama about relationships blah blah , <over thinking it >

Onesleeptillwembley Thu 29-Aug-13 16:09:39

Ok, I'm a bit thick and had 2 large wines during it last night. Please explain to me slowly. Is it the original characters re worked? Or is it totally new but using the old names?

mrsjay Fri 30-Aug-13 15:00:05

it is the original characters It is telling the story basically of how bea got to be Queen Bea

Groovee Sat 31-Aug-13 11:28:20

I enjoyed it. I never saw the begining of prisoner. Just watched it later on.

Only trouble is now that I'm watching the old ones on YouTube. I'm on number 22 of 469 or thereabouts. I'll be watching it for the rest of my life!

emmelinelucas Sun 01-Sep-13 17:18:37

I was a teensy bit disappointed, I prefer the originals.
I will still watch next week, though.

Blondeshavemorefun Sun 01-Sep-13 22:26:54

finally watched the repeat - wouldnt work on demand for me sad

really enjoyed it smile but have nothing to compare it to as didnt watch the original

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 04-Sep-13 22:01:25

Anyone watching tonight?

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 04-Sep-13 22:07:21

Surely they would have CCTV in all areas of the prison in this day and age? I mean, yes, in the 70s or whenever it was this event originally happened they wouldn't have, but the premise is a bit weird now, surely? Or have I missed them knocking out the cameras?

I think Vera is about to discover her inner Vinegar Tits.

I haven't watched it tonight, I probably will on the catch up. Not sure I like it enough tbh.

I can't believe no-one told me about this.

My mum used to record this for me and we would watch it whilst she ironed.

I'm a bit rusty on the old ones need a you tube session...

SoleSource Wed 04-Sep-13 23:05:22

Mrs Jackson wasn't killed in the original it was her Husband

AnneEyhtMeyer Thu 05-Sep-13 09:59:16

That's right, Sole, and Mrs Jackson wasn't the governor, was she? She was the nice prison warder.

SoleSource Thu 05-Sep-13 10:02:59

I know it was Mrs..... who was the Governer, the top screw

Ahhh Mrs Davidson the English Lady

Groovee Thu 05-Sep-13 17:07:55

I'm just about to watch episode 6 for the original prisoner on You tube. Have been a 4 day week at work so not had time to watch this week's wentworth.

AnneEyhtMeyer Wed 11-Sep-13 22:06:56

Anyone still watching?

They're in the laundry!

I've recorded

They were always in the laundry.

The equipment there always looked a bit dangerous to be letting convicted criminals loose with....a great big heavy steaming press...always with Queen Bea at the helm. And a huge dryer that coukd fit hslf a dozen inmates in...

...were there actually any other jobs for them???

Groovee Thu 12-Sep-13 08:44:12

I fell asleep during last nights.

But am on episode 41 on You tube of the original and they can work in the garden...

Meanwhile on bad girls they stuff envelopes.

I never watched PCBH, but am somewhat hooked on Wentworth.

Can anyone tell me what connections there are between this series and PCBH, please? Are there characters in common? Thanks!

Groovee Thu 12-Sep-13 13:57:07

Meg Jackson was an officer married to Bill and it was bill murdered not Meg. Frankie tried to take over from Bea who was in for something else. She got out and shot her hubby and got life. Lizzie was an old con who'd poisoned people.

It has been changed about. Vera Bennett isn't so nice in the original. Hence she ends up being called vinegar tits

Blondeshavemorefun Thu 12-Sep-13 15:03:41

im still enjoying, prob as i never watched the original

Blondeshavemorefun Thu 12-Sep-13 17:04:36

Owwwwweeee sad

Just watched the end - the bit with the iron and bee and Frankies hand - I was clutching myself sad

Thought she should scream a bit more though - press was held down for ages sad

Did that happen in the original ?

Wonder if will ever show the whole lot on tv ? Meant to be over 600 episodes

Groovee Thu 12-Sep-13 17:26:07

It was Lynn Warner who Bea burnt in the press. It's on you tube.

Prisoner You tube

differentnameforthis Fri 13-Sep-13 12:25:36

You have to detach from the original & try to imagine they are all completely new characters.

You will notice that the new characters have some things in common with the old, but that is really where the similarity ends.

I loved it, have seen the whole series (in Australia, we had it a few months ago).

Bea was originally in for beating up/killing (can't remember which) the women (her best friend, I think) that her husband had an affair with.

Lizzie was found not guilty of the poisonings, in the end.
