Did you see the body? sad

RippingYarns Sun 25-Aug-13 21:14:39

no, but i can hear it

i want a flat with doors like that inside

She's definitely dead!

DuchessofMalfi Sun 25-Aug-13 21:23:19

Creepy. Gripping stuff.

SoleSource Sun 25-Aug-13 21:26:30

I dunno Sauvignon I think I saw her twitch.

SoleSource Sun 25-Aug-13 21:26:59

Joyce Carol Vincent sad

Pan Sun 25-Aug-13 21:30:07

They're using that miserable camera filter that makes everything look grey/blue washed out. Makes up for poor dramatic atmospherics. <critic>

Having said that all of the inhabitants are a bit miserable.

SoleSource Sun 25-Aug-13 21:31:45

The body <shrieks>

Is it good? I have it taping, cos it would probably scare the pants off DS who is unwell and curled up beside me.

Well, not taping, being recorded obviously. grin

dingit Sun 25-Aug-13 21:37:29

It's a bit slow.

SoleSource Sun 25-Aug-13 21:37:42

Totally unsuitable for children. Yes it is good. I like it.

Pan Sun 25-Aug-13 21:39:01

Quite a waste of David Threlfall though. <critic plus>

He looks very different to Frank Gallagher!

SoleSource Sun 25-Aug-13 21:43:26

Oh gosh yes grin it's him!!

Is it just me being narky or is it a bit slow.... yawn. I really want to like it

SoleSource Sun 25-Aug-13 21:53:21

I like it for that but it is part 1.

Darkesteyes Sun 25-Aug-13 21:54:06

Couldnt help noticing the fat shaming by the police.
"this girl couldnt be carried up a ladder" and everyone in the meeting laughs.

Oh good that it's good. I'll catch up with you later when I get DS in bed.
I need something creepy to watch now that The Fall is over.

SoleSource Sun 25-Aug-13 22:01:42

I know Darkeyes, made me blush with shame.

Yeah, it's OK for a Sunday night and only one hour long.

Makes me think of Joyce Vincent as she was found after three years in her bedsit too,.

Pan Sun 25-Aug-13 22:02:00

There is tho' a dramatic counterpoint between Mellisa and the DT police character - few social skills and no further role in society (ie for him his job) and no family.

SoleSource Sun 25-Aug-13 22:09:08

Oh yes. He has no family, I missed that. And she had no family either?

Pan Sun 25-Aug-13 22:12:10

she had family (inherited the flat from her mum who it seems 'knew' the maths teacher..) but no-one still around?

bluecheque4595 Sun 25-Aug-13 22:15:15

I thought the house in it looked like the one in the sitcom "Spaced". I googled, it was similar but not the same. I will keep watching.

I think the guy with the bike dunnit. He wanted to get his wife off the scene before chatting to the copper which I thought was well guilty.

mayhew Sun 25-Aug-13 22:17:19

Beautifully filmed. The locations (esp the house) are characters in themselves. The claustrophobia and suspicion of apartment houses. Reminds me of Maigret.

KhloeKardashian Sun 25-Aug-13 22:23:53

I missed the beginning, I will catch up on iplayer. I think it is not bad actually.

SoleSource Sun 25-Aug-13 22:26:08

I think your job as TV critic is safe from me Pan blush

I blame the multi pack of wagon wheels I was eyeing up. I resisted. grin

valiumredhead Sun 25-Aug-13 22:28:02

I loved it can't wait until next week. Reminded me of my flat dwelling days on a much smaller scalegrin

SoleSource Sun 25-Aug-13 22:30:44

vallium I lived in a house converted into flats just like that in London. Huge houses there. I think there are a lot like that. Was spooky.

valiumredhead Sun 25-Aug-13 22:40:46

Hi sole, not spoken for a while,I thought of you last week as we were in Ventnor. I got sun burned, ouch !grin

Yes it's funny, Dh said 'you must know that house is in London'smile

SoleSource Sun 25-Aug-13 23:06:20

Hi vallium smile xxx Oh how was it there? Did you like it?

valiumredhead Sun 25-Aug-13 23:32:20

It was fab and so warm,I burned and I had sun cream on,I never burn normally as I'm so careful. I'm dreaming of holiday homes or a camper van when Dh retires...

SoleSource Sun 25-Aug-13 23:38:21

oooh! I wish I was there too. I want to live there!! Go for it vallium, make sure you get two extra bedrooms for DS and I grin x

OctopusPete8 Sun 25-Aug-13 23:41:58

I like it , I like threllfall.

valiumredhead Mon 26-Aug-13 12:28:11

Ok sole, but if we get a camper van then we'll all have to take turns on the roof rackwink

SoleSource Mon 26-Aug-13 12:36:54

grin it's a deal! better than my actual house and better views grin

hattymattie Mon 26-Aug-13 17:24:39

I thought it quite creepy and claustrophobic - agreed half of London will be creeped out by watching it.

SoleSource Mon 26-Aug-13 17:30:50

hatty grin

roll on next instalment

diddl Mon 26-Aug-13 21:03:45

I thought it was great.

And the actress playing Melissa.

What did I see her in recently(?)

Sharing a house in the 60s(?) with MyAnna Annoying & Juliet Stevenson.

Choccyjules Mon 26-Aug-13 22:49:10

Just watched it on iplayer, liked it muchly.

I presume we're supposed to wonder about the guilt of the teacher in the basement...but I also thought the newspaper editor was shifty.

And two actresses from larkrise to candleford!

valiumredhead Mon 26-Aug-13 23:58:32

Did-yes I saw that too but can't remember what it was called.

nuppet Tue 27-Aug-13 00:19:57

She was in White Heat on BBC 2

diddl Tue 27-Aug-13 06:58:55

I thought about "White Heat" & then thought that that was a film with Charles Dance.

Wrong!-that was White Mischief!

Although there was a film White Heat with James Cagney!

But yes, I liked it-they all seem to have something to hide.

The guy from the cellar I assume didn't like her as it stopped him ingratiating himself with her mum.

And he's hiding an ex pupil??

And where has Victoria Hamilton's character disappeared to?

Or did I miss that?

SpanishFly Tue 27-Aug-13 08:01:12

Is it just coincidence that it has a lot of similarities to the real case of Joanna Yeates? Even the block of flats looks similar.
Her landlord lived in the same building and was the main suspect (and he was an ex teacher too). But it was someone else who also lived in the block who murdered her.

KhloeKardashian Tue 27-Aug-13 08:27:10

I think you are right there, even the last time people saw Melissa was just before Christmas.

diddl Tue 27-Aug-13 08:38:54

I did miss the bit where "Melissa" looked/went into the attic.

Did she she anyone/anything?

Is the place detached?

My first thought was a neighbour from an adjoining attic.

KhloeKardashian Tue 27-Aug-13 11:01:05

I watched the bit I missed on iplayer.

Basically Melissa came home to find the attic door open. Melissa went into her flat and dumped her shopping, ate a cube of chocolate and went back out into the hall. She called out no answer, then went up into the attic herself.

We were told two neighbours nearly went to court over the attic in the past, so nobody puts anything in there.

I also noticed that the teacher had keys for all the flats.

diddl Tue 27-Aug-13 11:47:19

And surely if you're going to commit suicide, you don't eat a square of chocolate & then do it??

Com'n people-did no one think of that yet??!!

bootsycollins Tue 27-Aug-13 11:48:43

Just watched it on iplayer. I'm ashamed to say it took me a good 45 minutes to twig onto Frank Gallagher being the detective. Was he wearing lots of guy liner? I knew he looked familiar but I kept thinking he must be some actor relation of Super Hans from Peep Show blush

I loved it, can't wait until next instalment despite it getting a high score on the cliche'o'meter

KhloeKardashian Tue 27-Aug-13 13:20:01

The shopping was so old, they had no way of knowing when she ate the cube of chocolate, no way of seeing what was in her digestive systems as it had exploded apparently.

OctopusPete8 Tue 27-Aug-13 13:29:23

LOL booty I said to my H , I'm sure he's wearing eyeliner!

We both thought he looked a bit like shirley from eastenders!! grin

SalaciousCrumb Tue 27-Aug-13 18:53:15

The teacher in the basement - he was Mr Collins in the 1995 Colin Firth BBC production of Pride and Prejudice. I've been racking my brains wondering what I'd seen him in before!

Watched on iplayer last night, found it intriguing. Agree with earlier poster who said there's a parallel with the detective's character & woman who'd disappeared - both isolated people & without a role at work/no family. May not be Jessica in the attic? Not sure if they just assumed it was her or were sure it was her.......will have to watch parts of it again......

Mr Collins! Of course. I have been wondering.

I love mumsnet. Questions even get answered before you ask them.

KhloeKardashian Tue 27-Aug-13 19:33:19

He was Mr Collins. Now was Mrs Collins the one in bed with the divorced Dad?

XBenedict Tue 27-Aug-13 19:36:42

I'm not convinced the body in the attic is Melissa. Maybe Melissa found a body in the attic and somehow became her, took her ID, changed her appearance and she is now the character that did a runner? Too bizarre? Probably! It's good though smile

valiumredhead Tue 27-Aug-13 19:38:43

Is the body Mellisa's mother's?

SalaciousCrumb Tue 27-Aug-13 20:08:21

bound to be something like that XBen!

The Mr Collins actor (don't know his name) is good at playing creepy characters! I wonder why his ex-pupil is his seemingly domestic slave.....

SalaciousCrumb Tue 27-Aug-13 20:09:27

.....I'll probably refer to him as Mr Collins now...

Animation Tue 27-Aug-13 20:10:01

This is great. I like this inspector character (Threlfall) - warm and kind .. and interviews with a steady patient concentration .. non threateningly.

The guy downstairs who gets his dinner on a tray from a young curly haired woman looks the obvious one to me.

VerucaInTheNutRoom Tue 27-Aug-13 20:36:36

Kieron's girlfriend was the mother in Larkrise to Candleford.

LillianGish Tue 27-Aug-13 21:39:27

It won't be Mr Collins - much too obvious. More likely to be the girl who has just moved in (if not the detective himself) - I just can't work out how or why yet! Loving it.

bootsycollins Tue 27-Aug-13 23:15:55

Ooooh good one XBen your onto something there I bet wink

KhloeKardashian Tue 27-Aug-13 23:33:39
SalaciousCrumb Wed 28-Aug-13 11:51:42

Ah I see. Mum in Lark Rise to Candleford/Cranford was also Mrs Collins in the Keira Knightly Pride and Prejudice.

KhloeKardashian Wed 28-Aug-13 20:27:36

Yes, Mrs Collins and Mr Collins in different Pride and Prejudice versions.

MorrisZapp Wed 28-Aug-13 22:46:56

The lesser spotted half of the lesbian couple was also a Larkrise alum, she was the quieter of the catty spinster sisters.

Well spotted re Mr Collins. Fawning horror that he was.

I loved it. I actually lol'ed at the bit where Frank G 'well she'd have been feeling better then!' re the anti depressants. Good point well made Frank, I'm on ADs and they make me much less inclined to top myself.

Can't wait for the next one.

SalaciousCrumb Thu 29-Aug-13 23:01:36

So we have Frank, Mr & Mrs Collins & Larkrise sister.

Mr Collins was also ages ago in a university doctor's practice thing with Peter Davison. Just off to google.

Best Mr Collins I've seen, comically slithery in the 1995 production!

Hi, new to the thread. I just watched the first episode. A minor thing, but I think it's going to be important somehow (this where I'll open my mouth and be proved wrong). When the detective was in the attic, he picked up a swimsuit/lingerie brochure and the female detective joked about 'titillation'. I think it belonged to the murderer.

The guy in the basement has keys to all the flats and is def creepy, but is too obvious. Is that his daughter living in his flat? Why is she like a prisoner and why is she wearing old lady clothes? Did you notice she had to have his dinner ready as soon as he got in.

The house is really creepy. The exterior is a house in Greenwich, but the interior was built in a studio because the production designer had the house in her head, but couldn't find one that met up with her her team built it.

valiumredhead Fri 30-Aug-13 10:28:34

She's not his daughter, she's his former pupil. That's why the guy that just moved on recognised her through the window as they went to the same school.

valiumredhead Fri 30-Aug-13 10:29:24

Oh I wonder where in Greenwich,I know that area well.

Oops, I missed that bit Valium!

MorrisZapp Sat 31-Aug-13 12:24:55

I used to live in a converted house like that and I hated it. I hated having an interior door as my front door.

In Scotland flat dwellers are mostly in purpose built blocks, either the old style tenements or newer build apartments.

I think Bridget Jones lived in a conversion too, great location but grim communal area. Lights on a timer, ew. Those timed lights might prove pivotal to the plot.

Oh and the adorable Steven Mackintosh has been in loads, but I love him best as Scrooges nephew in the Muppet Christmas Carol. Lets have a roll call:

Mr and Mrs Collins
Larkrise sister
Scrooge's nephew

SalaciousCrumb Sat 31-Aug-13 22:52:05

Werewolf (Russell Tovey) in Being Human

Any more?

Also Luther's wife who was done in by his mate Steven MacIntosh!

guineapiglet Sun 01-Sep-13 19:34:29

Hi all another one who had just caught up on iplayer..found it v intriguing and really well acted cant wait for tonights episode. I really love Steven Mackintosh he is always worth watching. Its good drama, building up the plot and characters slowly...
The house reminded me of the one in Luther lots of levels and darkly creepy!

valiumredhead Sun 01-Sep-13 19:51:42

I'm all set for tonight, sky plus all setgrin

Tee2072 Sun 01-Sep-13 20:52:04

I was wondering why my thread was so dead last week, y'all were here!

I thought it was rather dull, but we'll see what happens.

SoleSource Sun 01-Sep-13 21:07:18

I'm sorry Tee sad I didn't notice and I made this one after yours. Dufus I am.

Tee2072 Sun 01-Sep-13 21:08:04

It's okay Sole. People obviously like you better. grin

SoleSource Sun 01-Sep-13 21:09:36

I'm ahh Sole lol

Darkesteyes Sun 01-Sep-13 21:22:19

I dont like that Elaine much Doesnt notice Melissa or even like her until she wants a favour that can make her some money. Alright to slag her off for being overweight though.

What a bitch.

dingit Sun 01-Sep-13 21:25:58

How many episodes is it? Still might give up on it!

Tee2072 Sun 01-Sep-13 21:26:02

Still finding it all quite boring.

dingit Sun 01-Sep-13 21:26:36

Glad is not just me.

Tee2072 Sun 01-Sep-13 21:31:33

4 dingit. So after this it's half over and still nothing has happened...

dingit Sun 01-Sep-13 21:34:42

Oh gawd! At least I can candycrush at the same time! It's very disjointed, from the schoolteacher, lesbians, etc. I expected a clue as to where it's going by now!

They're all a funny bunch in that house. hmm

Tee2072 Sun 01-Sep-13 21:36:55

That woman is a prize bitch.

Darkesteyes Sun 01-Sep-13 21:40:51

YY Tee.

ladymalfoy Sun 01-Sep-13 21:41:52

It's a bit 'Inspector Calls' isn't it? Very slow this week though and the son is a slimy git.

Darkesteyes Sun 01-Sep-13 21:42:02

Elaine reminds me of someone who bullied me at school.

Tee2072 Sun 01-Sep-13 21:43:04

Okay, something interesting might have just happened.

dingit Sun 01-Sep-13 21:45:52

Hope Elaine gets her comeuppance.

Darkesteyes Sun 01-Sep-13 21:46:23

Is the maths teacher living with one of his ex pupils.

Darkesteyes Sun 01-Sep-13 21:46:58

Me to dingit

Tee2072 Sun 01-Sep-13 21:47:43

Not sure Darkesteyes. Maybe.

Darkesteyes Sun 01-Sep-13 21:48:59

I fucking HATE that Elaine. Shes giving me 1980s flashbacks.

Tee2072 Sun 01-Sep-13 21:49:50

A friend on FB just wondered why they were lesbians from 1983.

Darkesteyes Sun 01-Sep-13 21:52:00

Oh I meant cos the 80s was when i was being bullied by someone at school who looked very similar.

Tee2072 Sun 01-Sep-13 21:55:59

Oh, sorry to hear that.

Darkesteyes Sun 01-Sep-13 21:56:52

Thats ok Thanks thanks

dingit Sun 01-Sep-13 21:59:00

Is the new girl using Melissa's Facebook account?

Tee2072 Sun 01-Sep-13 21:59:48

She created her an account on Friends Reunited for some unknown reason.

I'm still bored.

May go to bed early next week.

MajesticWhine Sun 01-Sep-13 21:59:48

Yes, she has got a bit obsessed hasn't she. Gawd it was slow tonight.

Ahhhcrap Sun 01-Sep-13 22:00:27

A bit slow tonight hmm

Tee2072 Sun 01-Sep-13 22:01:32

My husband thinks it's great...

I am thinking it's like Murder on the Orient Express and they all did it.

dingit Sun 01-Sep-13 22:04:37

My DH has just some down and seen the last 10 minutes and declared it a crock of shite!

MorrisZapp Sun 01-Sep-13 22:04:48

I loved it! Thought it moved along fine. Showing us the dark side of all the neighbours, one by one. I really like Larkrise woman, she is v cute I think. The teenaged son is obviously troubled, possibly violent.

I'm dying to know what the curly haired ex pupil said to Michael before he left the flat.

Will defo be tuning in next week. Loved the BBC Drama mashup they showed before it, Ripper Street, yay smile

2rebecca Sun 01-Sep-13 22:34:05

Why did melissa put the magazines in the communal attick area rather than keeping them in her flat? She knew other fllats had access to it as other people's stuff was there. Her putting the magazines there made no sense, surely she'd keep them in her flat then take them to the tip and dump them in paper recycling, not put them somewhere where the other flat mates may see them and look at them/ nick them esp the stroppy lesbian.
Too many nutters to be realistic. You don't care about any of them because they are all barking.

Bit behind this week. Funny that the ex detective got himself drunk and took his spark plugs back!

SalaciousCrumb Sun 01-Sep-13 23:48:43

Creepy, atmospheric and good development of characters.

I loved it and the hour watching this flew by! I think the neighbour in room 4 has more to do with it; no idea why the ex-pupil was in flat 5 where she feels compelled to visit.

There's a connection somehow between Melissa, her mum and the girl with creepy teacher in flat 1.

valiumredhead Sun 01-Sep-13 23:54:21

What's wrong with you lot, it was bloody fab!grin

I love programmes where I don't guess what's going to happen,I usually work out out within the first half an hour!

Can't wait until next weekgrin

Tee2072 Mon 02-Sep-13 07:34:44

My god what's wrong with anyone who thinks it was fab? Including my own husband, who keeps going on about lighting and camera angles. Too bad the script is such shit.

To quote a friend 'there's building suspense and there's watching paint dry...'

MorrisZapp Mon 02-Sep-13 08:46:58

Tee's husband has spoken smile

My DP thought it was crap too, but he'll be reminding me next Sunday 'oh that programme is on' so he can find out what happens without admitting he wants to know.

waikikamookau Mon 02-Sep-13 09:01:32

ENJOYED it, I love Russell tovey.
very odd that the journalist did not introduce his girlfriend of almost a year, to his son.
very peculiar.
horrible horrible bitchy lesbian,
the girl with the teacher is a kleptomaniac and hit the detective on the back of the head,
did she also hit Melissa?

could have been any of them,
and the bloke who made a pass at Melissa but now lives abroad

valiumredhead Mon 02-Sep-13 12:02:01

How do we know she's a kleptomaniac?

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

2rebecca Mon 02-Sep-13 16:24:39

I find it unlikely Russell Tovey's character would be with the woman expecting his baby. She seems classier than him, but is obviously just as mental with creating fake facebook pages for melissa, or maybe bored and doing am detective work as she comes across as much brighter than his character.

valiumredhead Mon 02-Sep-13 16:26:08

She created the fb to see of anyone responded to friend requests, she's playing detective !

dufflefluffle Mon 02-Sep-13 16:34:09

I think yer man with the son didn't introduce his son to his gf because the son is creepy and possibly had something to do with Melissa's disappearance.....maybe.
I think it's great too, can't wait to see next week's.

guineapiglet Mon 02-Sep-13 17:57:31

Hi all. Yes duffle, I find that surly son very creepy and smug. Really hope he is not going to to the dirty with his Dad's partner..... - what I have enjoyed about this is that really everyone is a possible murderer really, all with some kind of connection - very Agatha Christie! It is very watchable and the characters are all very diverse! Looking forward to next week's episode...... smile

valiumredhead Mon 02-Sep-13 18:02:00

It reminds me of The Inspector Calls.

diddl Mon 02-Sep-13 18:26:06

I'm enjoying it as well.

Easy to watch!

<i hope it doesn't turn out to be a random not yet known neighbour!

standsonshiftingsands Mon 02-Sep-13 18:29:24

I just can't watch David Threlfall without thinking of Frank. I loved Frank - my kind of anti-hero

dollybird Mon 02-Sep-13 20:22:03

David Threlfall is the guy from Sex, Chips & Rock n Roll to me (the one who married one of the twins and was a bit creepy). I too, thought he was wearing eyeliner. Loved it and can't wait till next week

BaconAndAvocado Mon 02-Sep-13 20:40:42

Enjoying it, though finding it hard to take Shameless actor seriously!

The lesbians are great, especially woman from Luther.

No idea whodunit......

BlazinStoke Mon 02-Sep-13 20:54:25

Is the creepy son from Danni's House and if not what has he been in?
I'm enjoying it and don't care what anyone's DH thinks of it smile

coffeeinbed Mon 02-Sep-13 21:36:34

Was horrible lesbian in Luther?
She definitely was in Spooks and Silk.

BlazinStoke Mon 02-Sep-13 22:35:03

To answer my own question, creepy son not in Danni's House but was in Skins which I have never watched. There is something very familiar about him though.

Clawdy Tue 03-Sep-13 14:16:46

He was in "Vera" last week - playing an awkward teenage son!

squoosh Tue 03-Sep-13 16:45:03

Wasn't the creepy son playing another creepy son in an ITV drama a few months ago, one where he murdered a teenage girl, his Mum was played by Hermione Norris.

He plays creepy quite well it seems!

TakingThePea Tue 03-Sep-13 23:53:44

She created the social networking site to try and friends or Melissas - and 1 person has already added!

Agree with PP about why put the box in the attic! I never thought of that....

I'm really enjoying it but agree acting is a bit crap and characters unrealistic.

But I still want to know what happensgrin

TakingThePea Tue 03-Sep-13 23:54:09

*to try and find friends of Melissa!

Kaluki Wed 04-Sep-13 12:21:41

I'm loving it. I like it when you can't immediately guess whodunnit.
DP thinks he knows but I gagged him won't let him tell me.
I am wondering if the body is actually Melissa or maybe she killed someone and then disappeared.

liquidstate Wed 04-Sep-13 12:58:22

I love it too! Really intriguing. And I dont care that the plot is taking a long time. Its maybe slightly more realistic that way. I think next week we will see a bit of the irish chap in flat 4 and his interaction with melissa.

David Threlfall is superb. I also like the pregnant girl.

squoosh Wed 04-Sep-13 13:04:13

I'm really enjoying this programme, love that it's slow and drawn out, there are enough frantically paced tv shows, this makes a nice change. Similar pace to The Fall which I also loved.

BlazinStoke Wed 04-Sep-13 14:04:55

The obvious suspects are just too obvious so I'm wondering if the guy who moved to Canada dunnit?
I also like the Inspector Calls idea, that no-one dunnit but the investigation of her death stirs up all sorts of skeletons that would otherwise have gone unnoticed.

BaconAndAvocado Wed 04-Sep-13 21:26:06

coffeeinbed the nasty lesbian played Luther's wife in series 1.

MrsFruitcake Sat 07-Sep-13 09:05:08

I'm loving this, David Threlfall is really good, I felt so bad for him when his new drinking partner didn't turn up.

I am pondering who might be responsible for the murder, if indeed it was one.

I read somewhere that the whole of the interior of the house and stairs are a set. It's really convincing and creepy, so atmospheric, I can almost imagine being freaked out by all those shadows!

Choccyjules Sat 07-Sep-13 14:16:14

Loved when he got his spark plugs back.
Since it wasn't me who spoilered wink I can confirm the stairs were built as a separate entity and each flat is just the
one set changed round for filming each day!
The house is only for exterior shots.
Still very unsure who done what, another one loving the pace of it grin

valiumredhead Sun 08-Sep-13 20:09:06

Bump. It's Sunday againsmile

Tee2072 Sun 08-Sep-13 21:03:44

Interesting twist...

squoosh Sun 08-Sep-13 21:26:31

Why the hell does journalist woman not just say 'your son is an intimidating and majorly creepy freak'?

Tee2072 Sun 08-Sep-13 21:34:37

Because she's an idiot.

Tee2072 Sun 08-Sep-13 21:39:49

And because she knew he wouldn't believe her.

Tee2072 Sun 08-Sep-13 21:43:00

At least it's slightly interesting this week!

squoosh Sun 08-Sep-13 21:43:30

I hope she's packing to leave for good.

dingit Sun 08-Sep-13 21:49:05

Still not totally gripped by it. But I reckon it was Liz!

Tee2072 Sun 08-Sep-13 21:50:32

There is not one sane person in this house. Including Tovey.

ninjanurse Sun 08-Sep-13 21:54:33

I still cant make head nor tail of this. Whats going on with the lesbian couple? I thought they split up last week? Shes a nasty bit of work the dark haired one.

Tee2072 Sun 08-Sep-13 21:55:25

Apparently she didn't actually move out. I'm confused by that as well.

And the curly haired chick. What's up with that?

squoosh Sun 08-Sep-13 21:57:22

The tall lesbian and the psycho teen should be bricked up in a flat together.

ninjanurse Sun 08-Sep-13 21:59:37

So after the trailer next week I reckon it was Liz wot dunnit

diddl Sun 08-Sep-13 22:00:26

Was that the son peeping from the attic?

dingit Sun 08-Sep-13 22:00:35

Tee2072 Sun 08-Sep-13 22:02:32

I think it was the curly haired girl in the attic.

A bit less yawn but mostly I agree with you dingit.

coffeeinbed Sun 08-Sep-13 22:02:35

no, it was basement girl
I wonder what the young guy will find out, what she was running from

SalaciousCrumb Sun 08-Sep-13 22:13:09

Agree there's more to it re bloke who moved to Canada. I've no idea who dunnit. I still wonder if Melissa is alive was it ever properly identified it was her....

valiumredhead Sun 08-Sep-13 22:26:43

I just keep thinking pregnant lady will regret buying that flat upstairs once the baby arrived-all those stairs and lugging shopping upwink

So many anti fat comments this evening. Urgh.

RevoltedMum Sun 08-Sep-13 23:07:40

I have a marmite relationship with this programme. No idea who did it, I keep changing my mind.

Ellenora5 Mon 09-Sep-13 02:12:50

I'm pretty sure I posted on a thread about this when it started, anyway I have only caught up with it now, watched last weeks and this weeks tonight, it's strange isn't it, I can't make up my mind whether or not I like it, or whether or not it's any good, but I will watch next week coz I want to see who did it or who didn't do it grin

To who ever posted that bike guy was the cop that killed Luthers wife, thank you, I had them all placed, larkrise, shameless, luther, but I just couldn't place him even though I knew I hated him from something, but it still never clicked, and I love Luther so I'm annoyed with myself over that.

By the way I don't like the Daddy to be at all, he is as creepy as the teacher and he only went with curlyhaired lady to get back at him.

Wingedharpy Mon 09-Sep-13 02:17:27

I have a theory....
retired Detective will finally solve the murder and will confront murderer (whoever it is....I've no idea).
The murderer will attack him and he'll end up dead (retired detective, that is).
Murderer will put Detective's dead body in the attic and because Detective has not involved any other Police people in his detective work, no-one will know he's there and he will not be missed.
He will become - what remains! Remains as in human remains and left behind.

valiumredhead Mon 09-Sep-13 07:30:20

Fab theory!

Except he does have a sil and niecewink

diddl Mon 09-Sep-13 07:51:25

I think it's really well done tbh.

Interesting characters, no car chases, running about with guns, just good old detective work.

Or,retired detective with no authority in this case...

Tee2072 Mon 09-Sep-13 07:57:16

And pregnant girl will ring the station looking for him at some point and his colleagues will wonder what she's on about and open an investigation.

Except all the detective work isn't being done by the detective.

diddl Mon 09-Sep-13 08:12:57

"Except all the detective work isn't being done by the detective."

Well he is retired...grinblush

guineapiglet Mon 09-Sep-13 10:47:06

We really enjoyed last night's episode, I think it is really creepy as literally everyone has a motive, it really is a house full of bizarre people with secrets- but glad they are not going to string it out over loads of episodes, should be neatly tied up next week...I think David T should start a series of his own, he's really good as a 'retired' detective, but, like some of you, feel that this may be his undoing.... I think it has been a good pace, slow build up, lots to find out and over an hour has kept us absorbed - !

I really enjoyed last night too. Very claustrophobic and tense. Apart from the detective, preg girl and Patricia, they are an unlikeable bunch!

XBenedict Mon 09-Sep-13 13:23:57

Winged I think you might be onto something there and if you're not - it bloody well should be the ending!!

It's a house full of very weird people that's for sure.

I am also intrigued, DH has given up and doesn't care who did it - but I HAVE to keep on watching now.

I haven't a clue who did it. Not a bloody clue.

diddl Mon 09-Sep-13 13:35:23

So did Kieron have sex with Melissa when she didn't want to?

And who saw that?

The Melissa / Kieran sex looked to me like he wanted her to fight back, she seemed to slap him & let her hold her down yet she didn't look scared ?

It was Liz in the attic who had the peep hole.

What kind of trouble was Liz in ? Does it originate in the house ?

XBenedict Mon 09-Sep-13 13:40:43

I thought Melissa was reaching out to touch him in an affectionate way but he held her down in a physical, this is just sex, kind of way. She didn't look scared though.......bit bored maybe!?

valiumredhead Mon 09-Sep-13 13:43:46

She looked terrified and in pain imo, he was practically taking her. That's why his girlfriend left, he tried to do the same to her too.

XBenedict Mon 09-Sep-13 13:44:52

I am going to have to go back and watch the scene again now........

squoosh Mon 09-Sep-13 13:54:54

Wingd I love your theory!

I think Melissa wanted more affection from him instead of groping and sex and to put it bluntly he pushed her hand away because he was just banging her. Horrible man.

I agree that whatever happened to Liz in the past is connected with the house.

valiumredhead Mon 09-Sep-13 14:00:03

Raping not taking-bloody auto correct!

Possibly her first time?

valiumredhead Mon 09-Sep-13 14:16:07

I thought it high lighted the difference between the women-one felt worthless and so she put up with him being rough and the journalist woman who was angry and fought him off.

HarryStottle Mon 09-Sep-13 23:15:13

I love your theory wingedharper but nosey pregnant lady will find him - she's way too invested in solving the murder. Also. I'm wondering if there's more to her than we know - her relationship with Tovey doesn't ring true - or she's just an unbelievable character.
Had hopes for guy in Canada but now think his only role was to hAve sold his flat to allow the newcomers in.
Not convinced that nice lesbian is actually nice. Her GF is horrible of course but I think nice lesbian is quite nasty herself. Is tall lesbian protecting her?
I noticed that creepy dad asked creep son if he'd hurt "her" which I think referred to current GF. Creepy son said "no did you? You do have form". So son is referring to either dad's abusive r'ship with son's mother or to r'ship with Melissa.
I think either creepy dad did it or Liz with help from teacher.

JessieMcJessie Tue 10-Sep-13 05:20:54

Isn't the creepy son the same actor who played Jack Dee's daughter's dopey boyfriend in Lead Balloon?

Vickibee Tue 10-Sep-13 06:04:19

I don't understand what the curly haired girl is doing living with the teacher guy in the basement. Is it a sexual relationship or is she a skivvy for him. It is not clear.
They are a right set of oddballs aren't they, glad my neighbours aren't like them!

coffeeinbed Tue 10-Sep-13 06:58:17

I thnk she's hiding.
I have a feeling there was something with her family.

HarryStottle Tue 10-Sep-13 08:07:41

Jessie thank you you've solved a mystery for me. The boyfriend in Lead Balloon is exactly who the creepy son reminds me of. However they're not the same actor - but definitely very similar.
I think Curly Hair got into some (criminal?) trouble in 2008, the teacher was in some way implicated, and has been hiding her ever since.
I don't think creepy son has actually done anything, but he knows and is disturbed by his abusive father (I'm guessing there was DV when he was married)
wingedharper going back to your theory - nosey pregnant lady would be the one to discover Harper in the loft, but if it was she who killed him that wouldn't matter. I still think she may be mire involved than it would seem. Perhaps her father didn't help her buy the flat, perhaps she is actually involved in some way with the Irish guy in "Canada"; and she and Michael both have their own motives for pretending to be a couple and moving in?

Yonihadtoask Tue 10-Sep-13 08:22:19

I have been watching it.

Am totally confused as to who did the murdering.

This week's episode just mixed everything up again. What a bunch of oddballs.

Kieron's son, (Adam?) is totally creepy. but I doubt he did any murdering.

I think pregnant lady just has a lot of time on her hands. Although after reading your theory harrystottle maybe there is more to it.

TigerseyeMum Tue 10-Sep-13 09:15:53

I'm beginning to think there wasn't a murder, either. The arrival if the detective merely stirs up all the dirt simmering under the respectable surfaces, and highlights how we all live shallow and isolated lives, possibly using life's 'nice' people to get what we want.

All the characters are unpleasant apart from the pregnant girlfriend but I wonder what she sees in her partner?

diddl Tue 10-Sep-13 10:23:04

"I'm beginning to think there wasn't a murder, either"

But why would she shut herself in the attic?

And if by accident, wouldn't someone here her shouting/banging?

diddl Tue 10-Sep-13 10:23:41

hear, not hereblush

HarryStottle Tue 10-Sep-13 10:28:30

The trailer for next week's episode has the female detective telling Harper that it wasn't suicide - but that doesn't necessarily mean it was murder. I think it was though, plus everyone else's nasty secrets come out of the woodwork.

Vickibee Tue 10-Sep-13 11:37:38

Have they DNA'd the remains, what happens if it is someone else and Melissa is still alive?

Kaluki Tue 10-Sep-13 12:24:17

That was my theory. I think the body was too decomposed to do any DNA tests on and they just assumed it was Melissa.
I think Melissa went up to the attic, had a row with whoever and killed them and then took off and assumed a new identity.

TigerseyeMum Tue 10-Sep-13 13:04:23

Maybe she knocked herself out and someone shut the hatch? Thus showing how lonely and isolated she was. No one thought to look for her?

Or maybe it isn't her?

Yonihadtoask Tue 10-Sep-13 13:17:02

If it isn't her body, then whose is it???

That Adam is ringing alarm bells with me - or is he just a red herring? Maybe he had a thing with Melissa too. He said he liked 'women' not girls didn't he.

I have been over thinking maybe.,

Yonihadtoask Tue 10-Sep-13 13:45:08

Maybe the title of the show should be Whose Remains??

labelwriter Tue 10-Sep-13 16:37:01

See, I think that curly hair lady in the basement murdered her family, or something, and the teacher is hiding her and she is the one who is unhinged but I don't think she killed her. Or maybe she did. I think the same about the Victoria Hamilton lesbian, not as good as she seems and in some way implicated if curly haired lady isn't.

demisemiquaver Tue 10-Sep-13 20:18:47

could it be a take on "an inspector calls" the classic J B Priestley play ???????

valiumredhead Tue 10-Sep-13 20:35:44

It's been noted alreadywink

demisemiquaver Tue 10-Sep-13 20:46:55

thanx valium, I dont usually read back thru all the posts so I never saw that ....we'll find out next week eh?

MrsCampbellBlack Tue 10-Sep-13 20:50:35

I'm enjoying it.

As an aside - met tall mean lesbian at children's swimming lessons last summer, smiled and chatted as thought I knew her. And of course I did from Luther. Oh the embarassment.

valiumredhead Tue 10-Sep-13 20:59:43

Demi,I don't either I'm always getting told to read the threadgrin

waikikamookau Sat 14-Sep-13 08:09:31

the tall lesbian got the other lesbian back by the threat of calling the police and their involvement in Melissa.
and now she has locked her in.

MisguidedAngel Sat 14-Sep-13 12:34:13

Are OH and I the only people who thought/think that Liz in the basement is a boy? When the school photo flashed up briefly I thought it was all boys, but when we saw the school it looked like a bog standard comprehensive.

Everyone else seems to know it's a girl. I do too really, but I wonder if we're meant to not know. She's quite boyish looking - and the Russell Tovey character positively recoiled when she tried to kiss him, and I reckon he's not that good a husband/partner that he wouldn't enjoy a bit of a snog, especially since he wants her on side.

Roshbegosh Sat 14-Sep-13 19:07:27

Melissa is living in Canada with that guy. The body is um..... first wife of the alcoholic .... Melissa and alcoholic killed her .... Let's see, I will LOL if I am right.

baldisbeautiful Sat 14-Sep-13 21:29:09

Anyone notice this is the episode last Sunday - when the Detective and pregnant girl were sat in the cafe waiting for the "facebook" friend to turn up, he asked her what her boyfriend did and she said he sold trainers. Next scene was back to Melissa who was jogging doen the street wearing a newish looking pair of trainers ???

valiumredhead Sat 14-Sep-13 21:31:02

Ooooo well spotted!

NotALondoner Sat 14-Sep-13 22:01:26

what was the very last scene on Sunday? I was scared and covered my eyes I am watching on a very small ipod.

baldisbeautiful Sat 14-Sep-13 22:06:42

Not the last scene from what I remember, was just before they met with the blonde girl who had been to slimming club with melissa

Tee2072 Sun 15-Sep-13 20:51:59

Ready for the finale? It better be a good ending after all this.

baldisbeautiful Sun 15-Sep-13 20:53:36

Aaargh! We are watching Vera and plussing What remains. I will be too tired at 11pm to watch is so wil have to wait until tomorrow. I will not be able to resist temptation and come back to this thread to see who dunnit!!!

TakingThePea Sun 15-Sep-13 21:02:10

diddl Sun 15-Sep-13 21:04:09

Ruprekt Sun 15-Sep-13 21:09:33

Am really disappointed at the chap sleeping with spooky curly blonde girl!

RunFatGirlRun Sun 15-Sep-13 21:11:03

Eeek, I'm looking forward to this. I hope they tie up all the loose ends...

Poor Melissa sad She looked lovely at that party

RunFatGirlRun Sun 15-Sep-13 21:11:45

Me too ruprekt. He is a Very Bad Boy.

She gives me the heebie jeebies and no mistake. Never before has a haircut seemed to sinister.

RunFatGirlRun Sun 15-Sep-13 21:11:52

Darkesteyes Sun 15-Sep-13 21:12:03

The way this drama is showimg how overweight people are treated is very realistic. I used to be 21 stone and i was either totally ignored like she was at the xmas party.
Or abused for it in the street. This drama is showing a good reflection of what life is like for overweight people.

RunFatGirlRun Sun 15-Sep-13 21:13:52

I was thinking that a bit Darkest - but also, I was worried that it was too down on how overweight people are treated, as I know beautiful women of her size who'd blast in wearing yards of Vivenne Westwood silk and four inch heels, waving a bottle of bolly and have everyone at their feet...

squoosh Sun 15-Sep-13 21:14:34

My heart went out to Melissa, all alone at the party. I hope Evil Thin Lesbian gets her comeuppance.

squoosh Sun 15-Sep-13 21:16:14

Ewwwwwww! I would not fancy a poking from that teacher.

MajesticWhine Sun 15-Sep-13 21:18:09

MIL has phoned. Grr. We are now on pause, so I'm behind.

Darkesteyes Sun 15-Sep-13 21:18:23

YY RunFat i agree.

I HATE that Elaine I hope she gets hers.

There seem to be a couple of domestic abusers here too. The maths teacher and Elaine fit that category.

I can understand Elizabeth looking for affection elsewhere ...she seems repulsed by and controlled by that teacher. Shame "Russell" cheated though.
Elaine is abusive too.

Darkesteyes Sun 15-Sep-13 21:19:17

Me neither squoosh He makes my skin crawl.

Tee2072 Sun 15-Sep-13 21:20:20

They all make my skin crawl.

Poor woman's been trying to leave the abusive lesbian for 2 years.

RunFatGirlRun Sun 15-Sep-13 21:20:27

DH (ex cop) isn't watching but happened to look up when Elaine was blocking the door and immediately threatened an arrest for domestic abuse grin

She's so scary.

GRIM watching Mr Collins off of P&P drearily thrusting away <bleee>

Tee2072 Sun 15-Sep-13 21:23:47

Well well well.

Darkesteyes Sun 15-Sep-13 21:23:59

And the teenage boy is another abuser in the making.

I like the actor playing his dad Always had a slow burning thing for Steven Mackintosh.

diddl Sun 15-Sep-13 21:25:00

Makes them even??

Tee2072 Sun 15-Sep-13 21:25:53

I don't get that either, diddl. My husband think the teacher fucked him over so he fucked the teacher over.

Tee2072 Sun 15-Sep-13 21:26:21

Definitely her.

squoosh Sun 15-Sep-13 21:26:38

I think the set designers have done such a good job, the grey and green tones really lend atmosphere.

AlaskaNebraska Sun 15-Sep-13 21:27:19

Darkesteyes Sun 15-Sep-13 21:27:32

Darkesteyes Sun 15-Sep-13 21:28:53

RunFatGirlRun Sun 15-Sep-13 21:30:52

I'm so confused! What's the Salty thing? Why didn't he say anything about the body?

I'm also a few minutes behind so had better stop reading the thread in case it gives it away!

diddl Sun 15-Sep-13 21:31:54

Because his surname is Cellars.

Tee2072 Sun 15-Sep-13 21:32:49

I think he thinks she did it, but she didn't.

Salty was just an insulting nickname for a hated teacher.

RunFatGirlRun Sun 15-Sep-13 21:33:32

Ah, gotcha.

That Elaine woman is one of the scariest women I've ever seen on telly.

Darkesteyes Sun 15-Sep-13 21:34:44

We used to call our science teacher Gerbil.

insomniarules Sun 15-Sep-13 21:34:49

dingit Sun 15-Sep-13 21:35:13

Elaine because she thought that Melissa was going to help Peg leave?

diddl Sun 15-Sep-13 22:03:56

So that's why he was given the bow andrrow as a retirement gift and then moved in!

dingit Sun 15-Sep-13 22:04:12

He had the bow and arrow in his ' new' flat.

monkeymax58 Sun 15-Sep-13 22:04:17

Am exhausted.......

So wtf was that all about? Curly blonde girl.......what?

Why was she with teacher?

dingit Sun 15-Sep-13 22:05:12

Why did she freeze Peggy?

diddl Sun 15-Sep-13 22:06:02

Why did she kill Peggy??

TootiesFrootie Sun 15-Sep-13 22:08:05

I enjoyed that. It's nice to have a proper ending --even if it is a little farfetched.
Elaine would have killed Peggy because she was going to leave her.

monkeymax58 Sun 15-Sep-13 22:08:07

Could anyone who understood all of it just run through it all for me please?

Thanks most awfully. smilesmile

ABitBewildered Sun 15-Sep-13 22:08:27

Yes - can someone please explain why curly hair was kept secret in teacher's flat? I remember her saying to shoe shop guy she'd been in trouble but surely not so bad as to keep her inside all the time and in the thrall of teacher? And the biggest "why" of all - WHY did baby lady go into the loft of all places? Surely you get in own flat, lock the door and call for help? Too many questions!

wearingpurple Sun 15-Sep-13 22:08:35

Did Peggy commit suicide?

squoosh Sun 15-Sep-13 22:10:12

She had to keep the body frozen to stop it from decomposing as she had no way of disposing of it.

jinglebitch Sun 15-Sep-13 22:11:02

Curly haired girl was on the run after killing her mum's boyfriend.Did it ever explain why Joe took her in? Was it because he didn't have anyone to lookaafter him in his dotage?

TootiesFrootie Sun 15-Sep-13 22:11:43

Curly hair (Elizabeth) was hiding out at Salty cellar'sbe ause she was wanted formurdering her mothers boyfriend (who had been involved in drugs and sex abuse)

I'm just pleased I don't live in a big old (badly lit) house/flats with batshit crazy neighbours!!!! Night all.

It was a good one. Didn't see it coming & pleased it had an awesome ending

Clawdy Sun 15-Sep-13 22:13:25

I thought Peggy had finally killed herself and it had tipped Elaine into madness.

baldisbeautiful Sun 15-Sep-13 22:13:58

Brief summary please someone. I missed it but desperate to know who it was......

RhondaJean Sun 15-Sep-13 22:14:11

Peggy killed herself? <confused>

I was more worried by the baby on the bed than anything else.

RhondaJean Sun 15-Sep-13 22:14:47

They're going to struggle reletting those flats aren't they confused

TeaCuresEverything Sun 15-Sep-13 22:14:57

what a show!

can someone tell me why Sellers confessed when he didn't do it?

HarryStottle Sun 15-Sep-13 22:15:17

I would like to give myself a HUGE pat on the back for coming up with the theory that nice lesbian wasn't so nice after all and there was something fishy in her past. However as I also had theories about man in Canada and pregnant lady also had secrets to hide, I won't.

theliverpoolone Sun 15-Sep-13 22:15:21

Curly girl had killed her abusive stepdad in Liverpool then ran away. I don't get why she went to the teacher though, and why he was willing to protect her.

On a different note, I did an antenatal yoga class with evil lesbian 6 yrs ago and she was very nice!

MajesticWhine Sun 15-Sep-13 22:18:10

I guess he was willing to protect her in return for sex?

hollyisalovelyname Sun 15-Sep-13 22:22:24

Why was Melissa killed?

HarryStottle Sun 15-Sep-13 22:22:54

Nice lesbian killed Melissa. Michael confessed believing Liz had killed her. He had been sheltering Liz because she had killed her step-dad. Nasty lesbian was blackmailing and controlling nice lesbian because she new nice lesbian killed Melissa.
Pregnant lady found out about Michael and Liz and dumped him. Harper moved in to Melissa's flat and became the babysitter.
Nice lesbian killed herself or was murdered by nasty lesbian. Nasty lesbian attempted to kill Harper and pregnant lady.
Creepy guy and GF apparently lived happily ever after.

jinglebitch Sun 15-Sep-13 22:23:01

He must have presumed Curly had done it?

alpinemeadow Sun 15-Sep-13 22:23:24

I was hiding for most of the end. Can anyone explain - elaine found len in her flat, but when pregnant lady got back from date she found len injured in his 'new' flat (why he'd moved in defeats me but never mind). How did he get back up there if elaine attacked him in her flat? Or have i got the geography wrong?

squoosh Sun 15-Sep-13 22:23:48

Melissa was killed because she gave away Formerly Nice Lesbian Now Also Evil Lesbian's escape plans to Evil Lesbian.

Tee2072 Sun 15-Sep-13 22:24:22

I would assume they had a thing when she was his student and she ran to him when she killed her mum's boyfriend. He found Melissa's body and assumed she did it, so covered it up. And then protected Her again when body was found.

jinglebitch Sun 15-Sep-13 22:24:41

Sorry, crossed several posts.

HarryStottle Sun 15-Sep-13 22:24:49

Melissa was killed because asty lesbian was baiting her so M started to tell her that nice lesbian was going to leave her, so nasty lesbian strangled her to make her stop

baldisbeautiful Sun 15-Sep-13 22:25:27

Thanks harry

HarryStottle Sun 15-Sep-13 22:26:37

Harper was still in lesbian's flat with dead nice lesbian.

SoleSource Sun 15-Sep-13 22:27:14

the sight of harry on top of liz made me feel sick

jinglebitch Sun 15-Sep-13 22:28:48

She was conveniently enticed into the now both evil lesbians' flat by the baby monitor he has dropped. Conveniently.

jinglebitch Sun 15-Sep-13 22:30:23

"Dead nice lesbian" smile

alpinemeadow Sun 15-Sep-13 22:31:23

Thanks harry. So where was baby and how did pregnant lady come to be in elaine's flat? Also, how did harper have his bow and arrow at the ready in elaine's flat? Think i missed something here!

Myself i hope len survives and maybe gets together with the woman at the archery centre who he met last week.

BMW6 Sun 15-Sep-13 22:32:44

That's a whole lot of lonely, needy people in one house.

I don't normally watch murder detective mystery thriller thingies, but I thought that was rather good. Last 10 mins particularly shock

My money was on the nasty skinny lesbian, so I kind of won? (She drove the timid one to it by her EA and DV)

Am sad that Len died, but he knew he had saved the lady and baby, and ob hated retirement from the force

fancyanother Sun 15-Sep-13 22:32:57

Baby was inexplicably left in flat on his own. Pregnant lady went into flat because she could hear baby screaming on the monitor which was in lesbian flat with Len

alpinemeadow Sun 15-Sep-13 22:34:56

So the babysitter left baby unattended to deliver his leaflets? I wouldn't be asking him again.

If the finale took place in elaine's flat, what stairs did pregnant lady push elaine down?

fancyanother Sun 15-Sep-13 22:35:17

I don't think Peggy was evil lesbian. I think she was abused and desparate and just wanted Melissa to stop talking.

fancyanother Sun 15-Sep-13 22:36:02

The loft ones!

BMW6 Sun 15-Sep-13 22:38:07

Finale took place at top of house by Len's flat (that was Mellissa;s).
Len had gotten out of Elain's flat & up the stairs to his flat & got his bow and arrow from there.
(That's right isn't it?)

alpinemeadow Sun 15-Sep-13 22:42:41

That's what confuses me fancy. How does the action move from elaine's flat to the loft? Ah, i'm getting it. Preg lady grabs baby and foolishly runs to loft. Elaine goes after her. Somehow len also staggers up the stairs and grabs the bow and arrow. Is that roughly it? So did len take baby to deliver the leaflets and put him on the bed in elaine's flat?

Whereas actually preg lady should have grabbed baby and run outside to phone for help.

valiumredhead Sun 15-Sep-13 22:43:51

Oh that was fab!!grin really liked the double twist.

I used to live in flats like that and left ds upstairs with monitor on while I nipped downstairs. God job he did leave the baby or mad lesbian would have done the baby in too!

I like to think the ending was ambiguous and Ken survived and started new life with nice lady and babywink

alpinemeadow Sun 15-Sep-13 22:45:17

Ah, cross posted. Normally i'd watch the last 10 minutes again, but it was too scary! Thanks for explaining!

valiumredhead Sun 15-Sep-13 22:47:15

Why were the kids calling the teacher 'salty'in the classroom when he whacked the kid?confused

Also did he love Melissa's mum?

TakingThePea Sun 15-Sep-13 22:48:29

My heart is still not beating normally!

jinglebitch Sun 15-Sep-13 22:49:11

Aibu to be frankly disappointed in Russell tovey-I would expect much better behaviour from him,and he's not just let us all down, he's let himself down too.

fancyanother Sun 15-Sep-13 22:49:45

Yes, pregnant lady decided that as there was a murderer in her block of flats, she had better get him, but left baby monitor downstairs. She then ran up to loft, presumably because she thought it was safer than going downstairs closer to lesbian flat. Lesbian heard her on monitor then went up and heard pregnant lady in loft.

HarryStottle Sun 15-Sep-13 22:49:50

I think at some point pregnant lady lured nasty lesbian into loft and then pushed her down the lady where Len was conveniently waiting with his bow.
I imagine whether he lives or dies will depend on audience ratings fir this series smile
A number of things annoyed me tonight. Given that Melissa presumably died without a will and no known next of kin, no way would anyone have been selling her flat 4 weeks after the body was found. Also it can take months and years for an inquest to be concluded so again it wouldn't have happened so quickly here.
Also when Michael confessed to murder wouldn't his flat have been immediately secured by the police, so Len wouldn't have been able to search it the next morning?
Finally press woman turned up at the police station and the detective went to see her immediately even though she didn't have an appointment and detective had more pressing matters to attend to.
Other than that I found it a wholly realistic and credible story-line ;)

HarryStottle Sun 15-Sep-13 22:51:28

Ladder not lady

sillylily Sun 15-Sep-13 23:09:10

It was far too scary for me. I couldn't stop myself watching through to the end and now I can't sleep! I have man coming round tomorrow to look at putting boards down in the loft and think I will be a nervous wreck. I sort of hope Len died so I don't have to go through this again.

Ellenora5 Sun 15-Sep-13 23:26:04

Am I the only one that was disappointed with the ending, no explanation as to why Elizabeth was living with Cellars, it was obvious from the beginning that Peg was being abused by Elaine, she had tried to leave and Elaine found her (I think), how on earth did Len move into the flat so quickly, he was already sleeping in the flat which was weird anyway, what was the point Michael was trying to make by sleeping with Elizabeth, he said "now that makes us even" (or something like that) even to what, we know he hated him but was it just because he was his teacher and he didn't like him. And seriously with Lens injuries he was able to make back to his flat and get his bow and arrow confused and he must have given Elaine some beating when she was attacking him because she was covered in cuts.

Ah, maybe I'm just overthinking it.

valiumredhead Sun 15-Sep-13 23:31:35

Elizabeth was Sellar's student, so when she stabbed the step dad she lived/hid with him. He wanted her as he didn't want to be alone.

valiumredhead Sun 15-Sep-13 23:33:03

Seller's was vile to Michael throughout his childhood, seriously nasty so sleeping with Liz was to repay him for it.

Tee2072 Mon 16-Sep-13 07:42:16

End sequence:

Preg lady leaves baby with Len while she goes on date.
Len leaves baby on his bed in what used to be Melissa's flat.
Len is putting flyers under doors and finds dead not so Nice Lesbian in the tub in Lesbian flat
Evil Lesbian stabs Len in her flat
Preg lady gets back from date hears baby crying from Lesbian flat
Preg lady finds Len and not so nice lesbian in bathroom of Lesbisn flat
Preg lady legs it to her flat, calls the police, which Evil Lesbian hears over monitor
Preg lady legs it to attic for lord knows what reason.
Evil lesbian follows Preg lady to attic.
Preg lady pushes lesbian down attic stairs
As evil lesbians are notoriously hard to kill (snurk), she gets up.
Len, who is not as dead as he appeared, manages to get to his flat, where his bow, a perfect example of Checkov's Gun, is kept.
Len shoots evil lesbian at bottom of attic stairs

End show.

TakingThePea Mon 16-Sep-13 07:48:19

I think pregnant lady went into attic to hide.

If she had gone downstairs to try and leave she would have had to pass Elaine's flat where she would have been seen, if she stayed in her flat Elaine probably would have broken in.

Hiding in the attic would have given her more time until the police arrived.

alpinemeadow Mon 16-Sep-13 07:57:03

Thanks so much tee! Though, yet one more question - if baby and unit A of monitor is in Len's flat, how does Elaine hear, on unit B of the monitor, preg lady's call to the police from preg lady's flat? Oh and another question - how does preg lady get into Len's flat to retrieve baby - are we now being told that Len not only left the baby on the bed while he delivered his leaflets, but left the door to the flat unlocked?! Think he needs some basic safety training if he wants to be allowed to baby sit again.

alpinemeadow Mon 16-Sep-13 07:59:53

Yes taking, that does make sense - you wouldn't want to walk past the front door to Elaine's flat. Maybe the best of some not very good options.

Another thing that puzzles me - surely in the past three months Liz has been denying that she murdered Melissa (as she didn't)? I suppose police have just been assuming that she's lying.

TakingThePea Mon 16-Sep-13 08:11:31

Liz had never been seen by the police before! She'd only just come out "of hiding" when she started sleeping with preg lady's boyfriend. So she is this suspicious character who A. Has been hidden away all this time and B. Is on the run from police for killing her mums partner!

I presume unit B of monitor was in Len's flat because he was babysitting, preg lady went in there to get baby, did she even go in to her flat? I thought she went in to Len's and then in to the attic (he was the top flat).

Yeah I think we saw him leave the door unlocked? I might be imagining that! I guess leaving it open was ok - the house is not open, he knows everyone, he's walking down the stairs and up again. Not that communal, if you know what I mean. Baby didn't look old enough to wander off :-)

valiumredhead Mon 16-Sep-13 08:33:24

Again,I never locked the door of my flat if I had to pop down to another flat.

alpinemeadow Mon 16-Sep-13 08:51:18

Yes, I can see Liz's protestations of innocence might have fallen on deaf ears given her background.
And yes, I think that preg lady must have gone straight to Len's flat rather than her own after she found Len. I think the hand round the door leaving door on latch was Elaine when she went to get her daily ice delivery - but yes, I suppose Len couldn't have forseen that he would find Peggy dead, and then be stabbed, so he left the door unlocked. In fact it was better that he did, I suppose, or preg lady wouldn't have been able to retrieve baby!

Helpyourself Mon 16-Sep-13 09:10:57

That was fun but silly at the end!
Len could survive if they want to do another series
The very end was sweet, 'I don't want to be alone.' And tied it all up; Len's over investment in the case, spooky teacher, the dead girl, the lesbians, all lonely people who didn't want to be alone.

hattymattie Mon 16-Sep-13 10:28:24

Ok thanks for tying up the loose ends people. Just one question - did nasty schoolboy move out after his father told him what he though of him?

I hadn't thought of the lesbian commiting suicide - thought she'd been killed by psycho lesbian.

TootiesFrootie Mon 16-Sep-13 11:09:13

Excellent summary Tee.

Tee2072 Mon 16-Sep-13 12:01:35

I think so hatty. He was only there occasionally anyway.

Thanks Tooties.

It is not clear if Nice, but Murderous, Lesbian killed herself or if she was killed by Evil Lesbian.

Tee2072 Mon 16-Sep-13 12:03:00

Sorry, one bit that's wrong in my summary:

Preg lady legged it to Len's flat to call the police, so she could get baby who was still in Len's flat. That's how Evil lesbian heard her, through the baby monitor.

diddl Mon 16-Sep-13 13:19:56

So, Liz killed her mother's boyfriend,
Peggy killed Melissa,
Elaine probably killed Peggy but hopefully not Len?

Tee2072 Mon 16-Sep-13 13:34:25

diddl Mon 16-Sep-13 13:55:34

valiumredhead Mon 16-Sep-13 13:58:14

refuses to believe Len is dead

niffernaffer Mon 16-Sep-13 14:04:00

Ridiculous ending!! How many murderers in one block??

And a) who has the time to find themselves a date with 2-4 month old baby?
b) apparently doesn't say bye bye to baby and leaves him on neighbour's bed...where it seems he stays as neighbour 'pops' out...
c) and then doesn't immediately run upstairs to find baby when she hears him screaming and upset. I couldn't listen to it - awful. Poor kid.

Tee2072 Mon 16-Sep-13 14:05:34

Only 3. grin

squoosh Mon 16-Sep-13 14:11:23

Len has definitely snuffed it, but it's what he wanted so it's actually a kind of umm, happy ending.

niffernaffer Mon 16-Sep-13 14:11:38

I counted 4 grin

Tee2072 Mon 16-Sep-13 14:12:49

niffernaffer Mon 16-Sep-13 14:15:36

And Len!

Tee2072 Mon 16-Sep-13 14:18:06

That was self defense.

niffernaffer Mon 16-Sep-13 14:24:34

He still killed her!
I had better rephrase then. How many killers in one block?! Preposterous.

Tee2072 Mon 16-Sep-13 14:25:30

Okay I'll concede that!

Clawdy Mon 16-Sep-13 14:54:21

Pretty certain Peggy killed herself - she had already attempted it by slashing her wrist before,in the same bath.

Tee2072 Mon 16-Sep-13 15:08:29

True, but that's easy enough for Elaine to not cover up. Easier than keeping her on ice in the bathtub.

Elaine could have removed all evidence of holding her hostage, planted evidence of Peggy being depressed, all sorts of things. And then gotten tons of sympathy.

Heck, even forged a note confessing to Melissa's murder.

Clawdy Mon 16-Sep-13 15:15:43

Could be,but I thought Peggy's death had pushed her over the edge into madness where she would not be thinking logically. Interesting theory, though, Tee. I thought the ice was her desperate way of preserving Peggy, showing she was losing it. She could have devised a way of getting the body into her car to dispose of it,surely?

valiumredhead Mon 16-Sep-13 15:17:39

I thought she was preserving Peggy as she wanted to keep her like the object she treated her as.

Tee2072 Mon 16-Sep-13 15:21:06

That could be, I never considered that.

We need a sequel. grin

valiumredhead Mon 16-Sep-13 15:28:47

I really liked Len's character. Very believable imo.

eddiemairswife Mon 16-Sep-13 15:43:02

Too much crammed into final episode. Why did Len go into the flat when he could leave the leaflet just inside the door? That's what most people would do surely. And why did the curly-haired girl go to Mr. Sellers after killing her Mum's boyfriend? Why him and not any other teacher? Also, after she had fled to London, the police would have been questioning her ex-classmates and friends, so Michael would have known about her. I think the writer has a duty to us to clear up all the loose ends.

Tee2072 Mon 16-Sep-13 15:43:12

My husband is hoping he lived so he can have his own show.

2rebecca Mon 16-Sep-13 22:37:56

Going into the attic made no sense, it's the one room without a lock on it. Staying in Len's flat and locking and baracading the door after phoning the police would have been much more sensible. it was all very far fetched.

hellymelly Mon 16-Sep-13 23:29:24

I hope Len is alive too... I want a new series.

Wingedharpy Tue 17-Sep-13 00:07:21

My theory is (I have not 1 jot of evidence for this) that curly haired girl went to Mr Sellars after presumably killing her nasty step-father (had she been sexually abused by him?) because she knew that Mr Sellars had a thing for her when she was his student.
(Didn't Michael say something to curly-haired girl along the lines of :
" we all fancied you like mad when we were at school because you were so up for it" - or words to that effect).
I think she knew Mr Sellars would think he had died and gone to heaven if she turned up on his door asking to stay with him (and didn't he have a thing for "looking after" women - he looked after Melissa's mother when she was ill).
I think that Peggy killed herself as it was the only way she could escape from Elaine. I also think that Peggy was essentially a good egg. She couldn't live with the fact that she was responsible for Melissa's death. Agree with whoever said Elaine kept her on ice because having her as a corpse was better than not having her at all.
I'm sure Len died.
He told his dead wife that he couldn't carry on as he was for another 20 years - and, he'd have been in all sorts of trouble for the corners he cut and the stunts he pulled while impersonating a serving Police person.
And bravo to whoever for giving us a story with a beginning a middle and an end.

Animation Tue 17-Sep-13 12:38:31

shock !!!

That was a really good finale, although sad when Len died.

Actress who places evil lesbian is stunning, though not relevant here. It was a house full of victims really wasn't it.
