Yipee! the Rogers cup. Live!!!!
lead up time to the US Open! Yay!

there is also WTA tennis on eurosport atm but i never seem to catch it live and when I put it on ita always Radwanska and Cibulkova match!hmm.

Federer has withdrawn from montreal citing a back injury-rare for him.

dont know if rafas playing, havent heard hide or hair (or bum!) from him since Wimbledon [tennis].

and wheres Andy gone? must have finished his hols by now.

anyway cant wait for Monday!

GameSetAndMatch Fri 02-Aug-13 22:00:15

come on come on, roll up, one and all!

still miss Wimbledon sad but now were over the hump and can look forward to the US open and davis cup GB against Croatia, really hope Cilic gets sorted out and the LTA's wrong about him, hes one of my faves, mind you so's Troiki so i sooooo hope theyre not dabbling.

Raahh Fri 02-Aug-13 22:10:50

ooh- lost the old thread<numpty> so hello!
Just read that Fed is out of Montreal. That's quite sad, really. I won't be able to watch, but will keep up with my up-dates on the Beeb websitegrin

Rafa is playing in Montreal Facebook stalker seems to be taking the training one day at a time, which is good.

And Del Potato is progressing well in Washington, which is also good news.

My dcs have been off a whole week, it feels much longergrin

PetiteRaleuse Fri 02-Aug-13 22:14:08

Ooh good. Hopefully the French TV will show it. They're more tennis friendly than the UK. But maybe that will change if Andy continues to kick ass. He likes hard courts so fingers crossed for the next few months.

GameSetAndMatch Sat 03-Aug-13 14:27:48

yep.Andy and Novak playing for sure.

and yes glad potatoes doing well [tennis]

maybe MNHQ can give us a stars n stripes tennis ball emoticon!for he US Open!

siezethenight Sun 04-Aug-13 10:02:34

Okay then - give me channels as I am clueless.
I need this actually - game re the other thread - never underestimate the power of a pissed off woman. I have appealed. Last night I was up on the hour every hour as it was raining and Ds cat was out. He said he had tried to unlock the door to get out but couldn't (thank f*ck) but I had to get up to find the cat. This went on, on the hour until 5am this morning. Because he times it - exactly 60 minutes and he's back upstairs to wake me. This is apparently, not being needed up at night? This is exactly why I hide our door keys at night... We shall see grin I am pretty confident the appeal will go as it should.
But that aside - what channel is [tennis] on.
And - can we get the [tennis] back for this!?

Raahh Sun 04-Aug-13 11:01:24

sieze- I can't help re-channels, as I only have basic Virgin freeview. I imagine, if it is shown, it will be on ESPN/Skysports/ Eurosport <makes it up> grin

and good luck with your appeal! [tennis]

GameSetAndMatch Sun 04-Aug-13 17:30:58

its on skysports and Eurosport.

theres a new BT channel showing some [tennis] but you have to upgrade somewhere for it.

sieze thanks for

ClayDavis Sun 04-Aug-13 22:00:58

flowers seize. If it helps at all I think about 80% of decisions get overturned at appeal. Not sure how that figure will change with the move from DLA to PIP.

[tennis]. Probably not going to be able to find anywhere to watch the tennis. Had got a bit distracted by the [cricket] over the last few days. Might need to get my tennis head back on.

siezethenight Mon 05-Aug-13 08:06:47

clay I was told that stat also. Which is why I am going to appeal. Normally, I can't be bothered with the scrap for something when it comes to Government. I seem to be more likely to fight if its regarding one of the Dc's though so, yes. I am going for it. Pip seems to be unfair to those physically disabled and fairer to those who have mental disabilities. So I am told but stress I have no experience of it yet so can't make a proper opinion on it all.
game where's your name change then?
I am going to pop onto Sky online and check out the sports channels, see what tennis they are showing and when. Then make the call for the free month in about 2 weeks time.

PetiteRaleuse Mon 05-Aug-13 15:40:47

Yay it's showing on the channels I have here in France. One of the rivals nicked loads of the tennis tournaments and I refuse to pay any more just to get decent tennis coverage. Starts at 8.45 tonight my time. Allez the French and of course Murray.

PetiteRaleuse Mon 05-Aug-13 15:45:08

Oh there's only Gasquet that has a hope on the French side. I didn't realise Ferrer had overtaken Nadal and Federer in the ATP rankings:

PetiteRaleuse Mon 05-Aug-13 15:45:21
Raahh Mon 05-Aug-13 16:03:11

I'm glad Del Potato won in Washington, and if he can stay injury free, hes having a great year.

Re- the rankings, I'm obsessed with them. And check up on them updating live here

Nadal was always going to drop, after his 7 months off, but because of that he will (if he progresses in the next few tournaments) be able to make up points,as points are defended, not won. (iyswim). The points from the Olympics have dropped off as well, which changes things a bit.

I'm very envy that France are showing the Rogers Cup, Petite, and sad that Tsonga isn't playing.

PetiteRaleuse Mon 05-Aug-13 16:12:45

Yes, but it's weird not seeing them in the top 3 or 4. I think Nadal might be able to climb his way up again but I think Federer has had his (very long) moment at the top.
I pay for a certain TV package, like sky but a lot smaller. The reason we pay for it is because they show good tennis and the English premier league, but a competitor (Orange) nicked the tennis contract the last two years, except for the slams. It appears my package has won back the rights to some of them at least. Phew.

PetiteRaleuse Mon 05-Aug-13 16:13:17

Yes i wish Tsonga was playing. Is he still injured from Wimbledon?

GameSetAndMatch Mon 05-Aug-13 17:16:24

Yay! its starting! [tennis] i want the [tennis] balls back!

okay. Seize , Ill go with what you lot suggest.

either i stay Game but tweak it to GamesetandMATS !

or- this is lame but tennis historians and beatles fans will get this, and come on, took me ages to get this but...

TheLenglenWildingHOad - get in!

or a play on the film titel Tango and Cash, TarangoandCash
or a play on Black and Decker -*MacandBecker*.

I know, I know, in fact I had about 3 more but Ive forgotten them!

Raahh Mon 05-Aug-13 17:19:09

I'm not sure, Petite- I've not been able to find out much. i hope he's around for the US.Maybe he just needs an extended break.

I do think Federer is on his (probably) slow descent down the rankings, but yes, he's been at the top for so long now. There is still a big difference between being top 5, and top 10. He will be around,at least on paper, for a while. Djokovic has the number 1 sewn up until after the Australian Open at least, unless something drastic happens.

My mum has some sports channels with her Virgin package that have been pinched by BT,I think. She's not happy. She watches lots of sportgrin.

The day Wimbledon ends up on a Sky sports channel is the day I will have to sell my first borngrin

In other news, Johanna Konta, our 3rd ranked woman, won a tournament at the weekend. Vancouver? She is climbing the rankings steadily, which is good for the Women's game here. Our men have a lot of work to do still.

Raahh Mon 05-Aug-13 17:20:51

Ok- those of you watching can keep me up to date. I will keep re-freshing the ATP pagegrin

TarangoandCash- geniusgrin

GameSetAndMatch Mon 05-Aug-13 17:35:23

watching Tomic and Mayer atm! ive missed tennis so much!
peering over the pc screen at tv at same time as mnetting and back to our tennis talk!

ok 1 voet for Tarangoand Cash! Thanx Raah

PetiteRaleuse Mon 05-Aug-13 18:26:36

According to his website Tsonga was 'signed off' for four weeks at the beginning of July and was going to undergo more medical testing at the end of July. I assume that means he's still injured now.

GameSetAndMatch Mon 05-Aug-13 19:46:46

vamos Lopez. cant stand Gulbis, little tantrum brat!

you can get latest results and stuff on the eurosport tennis website btw.

well done Mayer! beat Tomic.

GameSetAndMatch Mon 05-Aug-13 19:48:39

Clay you traitor! don't you dare watch cricket! you get back here NOW !!!!! grin

ClayDavis Mon 05-Aug-13 20:45:04

Ok, Ok, I'm back. <hangs head in shame> I'm feeling strangely disappointed by the cricket today anyway.

Partly because I'm so tired and partly because the light is shining of the screen in an odd way I've just read PetiteRaleuse's post as saying that Tsonga will be undergoing more naked testing at the end of July. I may be reading what I want to read there.

Have bookmarked the eurosport website now so should find it easier to keep up to date.

Raahh Mon 05-Aug-13 20:51:48

naked testing shock

now that, I'd pay a Sky subscription to seegrin

ClayDavis Mon 05-Aug-13 21:14:17

I think I'd be willing to pay the sky subscription and the TV License to see that, Raahh.

PetiteRaleuse Mon 05-Aug-13 21:19:32

Raahh Mon 05-Aug-13 21:19:47

ClayDavis Mon 05-Aug-13 21:49:16

There is the slight problem that I don't have a television but I'm sure that can be solved. grin

siezethenight Tue 06-Aug-13 10:11:34

Naked testing? I am in... This needs to be carried out on every male player in every tournament. I am starting a petition to have it shown live on Tv as well, so we are all clear the players are fit, we have seen it all with our own eyes!

magimedi Tue 06-Aug-13 16:34:43

Hallo lovely tennis ladies!

If there is to be naked testing I am going to be a tester!

Am not watching any of the tennis as have neither Sky nor Eurosport.

Being retired, I'd spend far too much time in front of the TV if I did.

I wonder if Fed is contemplating retirement? He's had some awful defeats post Wimbledon.

Am going to be away fron TV for all the US open as well - but as I'll be with DS & DIL I'm not too fussed.

Raahh Tue 06-Aug-13 17:00:12

Hello, magi- my gran, after she retired, having never been interested in sport at all, became an expert on EVERYTHING. There is no sporting event she will not watch. At one point, she combined this with her knitting obsession and made an entire knitted Manchester united team, which she sold for a local cancer charity. It was during the Beckham era, he was a big sellergrin 25 years on, she is still obsessed with sport- and has finally got to grips with the rules of mostgrin

magimedi Tue 06-Aug-13 17:21:17

Raaah - I hope I am not old enough to be your gran!!

Am not a gran yet - aching to be!

Retired quite early, due to DH being ten years older than me.

And we vowed never to watch daytime TV - apart from Wimbledon or absolute 'one-offs' like coronations!

I know too many people of my age who spend (IMHO) far too much time in front of the TV & have become very isolated due to this.

If ill or disabled it is obviously a different matter.

So Sky/euro sport would be too much temptation for me!

Raahh Tue 06-Aug-13 17:31:41

magi- I don't think so, she's 86!

I lost my job when pg with dc3, - and nearly 3 years on, I am afraid I have become a couch potato grin

GameSetAndMatch Tue 06-Aug-13 20:11:20

hi. just managed now to get internet connection! reception so bad where I live.

so whos the biggest toddler tamtrum then, Gulbis or Janovic?

Isner palying atm, love when he serves the way he bounces the ball through his legs!

PetiteRaleuse Tue 06-Aug-13 20:39:30

They showed Benneteau losing here and now on the Isner match.

magimedi Tue 06-Aug-13 22:24:13

Raahh - I am a long way off 86!

Please keep the tennis gossip going, everyone.

PetiteRaleuse Wed 07-Aug-13 09:27:12

Llodra, Benneteau and Gilles Simon are all out. Only Gasquet left in the interesting French players. When is Andy playing? Today?

I watched Gasquet play in Metz (local to me) a few years ago. It's an ATP 250 so not massive (though Tosonga plays there too). Anyway, Gasquet, after his match, was called up for some presenter/crowd interaction. He basically shot a tennis ball or three into the crowd and those who caught it were invited down to play a few shots with him. It was kind of fun. Seemed like a nice guy, but he was trying to improve his image after the cocaine scandal. So he might have been a twat pretending to be nice.

Raahh Wed 07-Aug-13 15:27:31

Nadal is playing in the doubles as well, this time, with Anduja- sadly they beat Ferrer/Lopez ,but it's a good start to getting back on track. I like watching Nadal play doubles. Djoko safely through to the third round.

Just wish I had chance to watch it allsad

Raahh Wed 07-Aug-13 17:56:45

Just looking up scores, and Murray is playing Granollers now- 5-3 in the first set.

Nadal up next, and then Del Potato. (probably middle of the night uk timegrin)

order of play

GameSetAndMatch Wed 07-Aug-13 19:00:44

oh dear, Andy, whats happened? 1st set almost a doddle, then Marcel comes back for the 2nd and now Andys 4-2 up.

drives me mad this guy, just cant watch him he makes me nervous! [tennis]

PetiteRaleuse Wed 07-Aug-13 19:06:54

Yay. He's through. Nadal now on French TV as far as I can see with the sound off.

GameSetAndMatch Wed 07-Aug-13 19:17:48

yep the itchy and scratchy show now on court!!!

PetiteRaleuse Wed 07-Aug-13 19:22:43

He really needs to sort out his, ahem, itchy bum.

PetiteRaleuse Wed 07-Aug-13 19:23:11

Oh they've out the Berdych match on here, but the French are none to keen on Nadal.

GameSetAndMatch Wed 07-Aug-13 19:45:47

why aren't they keen on Nadal?

Berdych gets the itches too round the front but when hes not doing that I love watching him play, hes got an old fashioned 50's/60's cleanline look about him.

and im with the French on nadal too!! I like Uncle Tony though!

Raahh Wed 07-Aug-13 19:48:00

Well I still love Nadal- he's a genuinely lovely bloke, unlike some. grin

ClayDavis Wed 07-Aug-13 20:06:01

Well Berdych is through. What's happened to Haas? He's 5-0 down. Is he injured or something?

ClayDavis Wed 07-Aug-13 20:09:59

Must be. Haas has retired from the match since I posted that.

Raahh Wed 07-Aug-13 20:20:07

Poor Haas-he's had such a good run so far this year. Hope it's nothing serious.

Raahh Wed 07-Aug-13 20:44:33

Stan's out toosad

Raahh Wed 07-Aug-13 21:33:26

But Rafa wasn't messing about. grin

PetiteRaleuse Wed 07-Aug-13 23:17:45

There is a very well respected journalist who explained Nadal's long absence from last year's Wimbledon to this year's clay season (about 8-9 months) as being drug related but covered up.

Now, you could say that was just gossip. But he is a very well respected journalist, and certain things that other players said (including Federer but I don't trust him an inch) backed him up. Anyway. It was taken as read in France, and the Spanish are pissed off with French reporting over the tennis and cycling scandals. Tomorrow I'll post some links (but they won't be much use as they are in French)

PetiteRaleuse Wed 07-Aug-13 23:28:09

OK I did a quick search but here is a blog post which debates the issue (in French):

The debate is interesting but what is more interesting is that Les Guignols which is the Spitting image in France dared do several skits on it over the last few years. And they were sued of course, but not for huge amounts.

You can google Les Guignols and Nadal to get an idea.

PetiteRaleuse Wed 07-Aug-13 23:36:26

Sorry, it wasn't a journalist, it was a player- a Belgian:

But anyway, the Fed interviews round about the time were very evasive; there are even rumours that some of Federer's injury times were in fact covering up doping. And I remember watching a Federer press conference where he didn't deny drugging as far as Nadal was concerned. Could be PR (they're not friendly) or could be something to think about.

Bt like lots of things in sport we just havebblogs and the odd interview to go on...

I like Nadal; I personally choose to believe that all our top tennis players are clean and i luffs them, apart their scratchy arses. But I do worry that they will be exposed like the cyclists or 100m runners...

siezethenight Thu 08-Aug-13 09:10:49

Morning peeps...
I thought the players were tested after every game? I was under the impression that [tennis] was one of the cleanest games about because of the strict testing and how well documented it is how hard the top seeds men and women all train up in gym as well as on court?
It will be a huge shame if this is all true about Nadal.
I personally prefer to think that, because he is young and very fit he can bounce back fast after injury and play to the insane level of fitness that he does. I hold onto this hope...

I maybe will call Sky today and ask for a free 6 week sports trial. I figure, its been 20 years since I joined them, the slight suggestion that I may pop off to another for my telly, phone and internet maybe would sway them into giving it up!
This certainly worked with my energy people yesterday! They owed me over 450.00 and were carrying it over to next bill - uh, no. Not when 350.00 of that was electric!! Do they think I am planning on lighting up the street in the next 4 months? Return it or I leave you, its as simple as that. They said they would, its not showed up in my account yet so am giving it till Friday to register in there. I looked to switch but the energy companies now have this contract thing, like phone's do - leave before 18 months is up and face a fine. Would rather stay put and come the winter if my company hikes prices I can leave them then without a fine as have been with them too long for a contract to apply anymore. If I switched now and it happened with a new company - if you see what I mean... Anyhow, they bended on my demands so - I miss tennis so much, I might give Sky a shot today.

No baby yet - God darn her. Midwife says if Dd is still here in 2 weeks she's doing an internal - wey-hey - that's what brought Dd on a long, long 22 years ago!

ClayDavis Thu 08-Aug-13 10:31:51

If PetiteRaleuse's article is correct only the losing player gets tested after each game seize, and then both players in the final. I don't think there's much random out of competition testing like in other sports either. This is what they've been trying to change. There aren't yet tests for every performance enhancing drug, so it's possible to take things that won't be picked up by routine doping tests.

Raahh Thu 08-Aug-13 17:50:37

I've been out all day and have only just seen that Ferrer lostsad

Raahh Thu 08-Aug-13 19:09:34

But Nadal has just won, so all is not lost. grin

Raahh Thu 08-Aug-13 19:13:22

And if he wins the next round, he should move up to number 3 in the rankings.

Raahh Thu 08-Aug-13 21:00:33

looks like Murray could be going out. <frantically updating the ATP page>

Raahh Thu 08-Aug-13 21:01:32

And he is!

PetiteRaleuse Thu 08-Aug-13 21:17:52

He played badly, didn't seem to be in the match at all. sad

Raahh Thu 08-Aug-13 21:20:13

Del Potato up next <wishes she could actually see it>

magimedi Thu 08-Aug-13 22:33:34

Del Potato is MINE! All mine.

I am telling you - only moi would appreciate him.

I just might have to get Sky............

Raahh Thu 08-Aug-13 22:37:04

magi - I've grown very fond of Del Potato over the past couple of months, but I will stay loyal to Rafa. grin I'll cheer Delpo on,though.

Raahh Thu 08-Aug-13 23:15:06

And Berdych is outsad

Raahh Fri 09-Aug-13 06:50:50

Noooo! Del potato is out sad
Sounds like he has a back injury, and there was a dodgy non call that went raonics way, too. Very sadsad
[ tennis]

GameSetAndMatch Fri 09-Aug-13 18:22:18

And Posposil going through at the expense of davydenkos injury.

do like Posposil though.

oh no not Delpo! sad.

Andys playing doubles, skysports said theyd keep updating that one as its on a non-televised court. [tennis]

GameSetAndMatch Fri 09-Aug-13 18:32:11

co-incidence ahoy! had to switch channels for a bit for DC to watch top gear and Boris Beckers the star in the car!

Raahh Fri 09-Aug-13 19:46:21

Game grin

angry just reading that Raonic has admitted he touched the net during the match against Del Potato- but it was important a point to admit to ithmm Nice sportsmanship, there, Raonic. I doubt very much Del Potato could have salvaged the match, but I'm not surprised he's angry about it.

So , C'mon Gulbis!

GameSetAndMatch Fri 09-Aug-13 21:05:41

dint that happen to Djoko and he lost the point?

agree bad sportsmanship on raonics part.

trivial and silly but today we were listening to the radio and a song from the 70's came on by the Gibson bros 'cuba'.

if you know it, we started singing 'Kubot' instead! and another tennis song is the old hymn 'Macenroe the boat ashore' !!

GameSetAndMatch Fri 09-Aug-13 21:08:26

magi were all have to share your potatoes with us!

El potato and (Mardy) Fish!

Raahh Fri 09-Aug-13 21:22:04

Now I'm singing 'Kubot'....dh is looking hmm

siezethenight Sat 10-Aug-13 07:25:22

Ladies - you are angels in disguise... Keep up the information, reading with gusto every day even if not participating. Not got Sky Sports - yet grin
On to it though...

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 07:37:38

Morning sieze. Over night results make the semi finals a very tasty match between Rafa and djokovic ( vamos!) and in an all

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 07:41:23

Stupid phone!
And an all Canadian semi with pospisil and Raonic .

My phone kept trying to correct djokovic to 'skimobiles' confused

ClayDavis Sat 10-Aug-13 10:42:29

I think I'd have preferred a Djok/Rafa final to a semi-final. It'll probably feel more like the final.

Vamos Rafa

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 11:27:32

Clay- I know-the French semi was great, really made the final feel a bit flat- which potentially could happen here. (If i was actually watching , that is,and not just watching live scores on the ATP site- that's a bit 2 dimensionalgrin)So Vamos! Rafa, and C'mon Pospisil.

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 11:32:09

The draw is out for Cincinnati too- much is being made of Rafa meeting Fed in the quarter finals. Tbh, the way things have been going for Roger, I don't think that is now as big a deal as it would have been 12 months ago. I know Roger is the defending champion, but I don't think he'll have it easy.

ClayDavis Sat 10-Aug-13 11:55:22

Agree about 2D-ness of tennis scores. I have the live scores up in a tab on my browser but it's not quite the same. Seems to work for cricket in a way it doesn't for tennis.

PetiteRaleuse Sat 10-Aug-13 15:37:23

What time is the Djok Rafa match?

ClayDavis Sat 10-Aug-13 16:00:28

Rogers Cup site is saying not before 8pm. Assuming that's Montreal time, I think that's 1am UK time.

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 16:32:20

1 amsad

That's too late for me to sit watching my screen refreshgrin

ClayDavis Sat 10-Aug-13 16:36:47

grin, Raah. I think I'll have stopped watching my screen refresh by then too. At least there's live athletics to watch while watching the screen refresh today.

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 16:37:19

I've just worked out--I am bored-- that if Rafa wins this tournament, he will be within 750 points of Murray, and the number 2 slot. I like thatgrin

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 16:38:00

Yes, Clay- I've just enjoyed watching Mighty Mo!

ClayDavis Sat 10-Aug-13 16:44:55

He had me worried there for a second. I thought he was going to get boxed in.

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 16:50:40

It did look a bit iffy for a while. I love watching the images of the commentators watching the race and getting really into it. But where is Michael Johnson? I LOVE Michael Johnson.blush

GameSetAndMatch Sat 10-Aug-13 16:57:17

clay Im sure its 8pm UK time, if you're on skysports. whats the time difference between us and Canada?

like the other day they said Murray not before 7pm and they showed it UK time at 7pm?

im looking forward to the canadian match, come on Posposil!

and come on Novak! [tennis]

i just love the way we're all still stubbornly typing [tennis] !!

ClayDavis Sat 10-Aug-13 16:57:27

It's always funny when they show that. I absolutely was not doing that at all.

Do we have any decathletes these days? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

ClayDavis Sat 10-Aug-13 17:01:55

They're 5 hrs behind. It's this site. I'm not sure whether its UK or Montreal time. I assumed Montreal because the 1st match starts at 1pm which would be 8am in Montreal if the time on the site is UK.

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 17:27:11

ohsad Michael Johnson has had a family bereavement, so will be at the athletics on Monday. I LOVE HIM (did I mention that)grin .
I get really confused by the times, but the ATP site does helpfully show a clock, which is nice and nothing to do with the Rolex sponsorship at all, oh no grin

ClayDavis Sat 10-Aug-13 17:36:54

Poor Michael Johnson sad. I do love Colin Jackson though. Live streaming 100m races is frustratingly jumpy. Takes a lot of the excitement out of it.

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 17:56:03

the small people have taken over the remote.sad It had to happen eventuallygrin[tennis]

ClayDavis Sat 10-Aug-13 18:38:06

Probably a good thing Raah. WTF was going on with that opening ceremony for the Athletics. Although I have spent the afternoon wondering why there was what looks like a large inflatable spaceship over the stadium. It makes a bit more sense now.

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 18:40:35

Gabby was of the opinion it was all a rip off of the GB Olympics ceremonygrin , only I don't think they had a £27 mill budgetgrin

ClayDavis Sat 10-Aug-13 18:42:16

more like a 27p budget by the look of it grin.

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 18:45:44

At the most. grin

GameSetAndMatch Sat 10-Aug-13 18:53:31

Raah thats another one I could nc to...Kubot,quierobailarlasalsa grin

bet the later match will be the Djoko one? id rather watch the other though, less erm-''always the top 4 in the semis''!!!

ClayDavis Sat 10-Aug-13 19:06:29

Right, my tennis page seems to have started refreshing at about 6pm UK time or 1pm Montreal time. So
Popsil v Raonic is not before 8pm UK time
Flemming/Murray in doubles is not before 11pm UK time
Nadal v Djok is not before 1am UK time.

I think. Disclaimer: Mental arithmetic mistakes may have been made.

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 19:26:25

Game- that is brilliant- but you'd never remember it if you accidentally logged out! I do this all the time

GameSetAndMatch Sat 10-Aug-13 20:22:35

just had to log back in and couldn't remember Game!!!!

Right, ill lay claim to Kubot for the US open start!! Cuba just came on radio again as we were listening to radio (shit tv till now) before the match. well, we were flitting between radio and womens match. wanted Li Na to win.

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 20:48:43

It's an omen!

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 21:11:59

oh rubbishsad
Raonic won the first set. I don't like him at the moment <sulks>

ClayDavis Sat 10-Aug-13 21:30:04

It's OK Raahh, Pospisil looks like he's walking the second. As far as I can tell. It's difficult when you only have numbers refreshing on a screen.

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 21:30:38

yay! go Pospisil! 5-1 in the second!

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 21:31:20

Clay grin x-post with the screen thing!

ClayDavis Sat 10-Aug-13 21:32:39

Wimbledon has spoilt me. It's always better when you can actually see the tennis. grin

Raahh Sat 10-Aug-13 21:34:00

ClayDavis Sat 10-Aug-13 22:02:05

I've haven't had digital TV reception for the 3 years I've been in this flat. The broadband has only been in for a few months so pretty much everything has been either live text or scores updating on my mobile. Other than the Olympics, Wimbledon was the first thing I've watched live in years. Live scores seem a bit disappointing now.

On a completely unrelated topic, I've just read the letter my boss handed me last thing yesterday afternoon. It has the date of my sickness absence monitoring meeting with HR on. It's 11.15am on Monday. I assume they've arranged this with the man who normally accompanies me to these meetings as they usually do. It doesn't really give me a chance to meet with him to discuss the report from Occ Health that I only got on Friday morning. Grrr.

ClayDavis Sun 11-Aug-13 02:18:32

Rafa's taken the first set.

Raahh Sun 11-Aug-13 09:44:57

Well done to rafa! VAMOS!
Definitely want him to beat Raonic. Happy daysmile [tennis]

ClayDavis Sun 11-Aug-13 16:56:47

Well done Rafa!

Looks like Murray/Flemming doubles final should be on at 5.30pm UK time and Nadal v Raonic should be on about 8pm.

GameSetAndMatch Sun 11-Aug-13 18:11:50

oh flubber! just put skysports on now as i cant stand you know who.

didnt know the doubles was on! come on Andy and Colin!

doesnt Colin have a wierd serve?

and what with these bright neon shirts atm? i cant see the ball when they have it near them, how can the player on the other side?

and why does the ball always have to be yellow? theyd see a darker colour better!

Raahh Sun 11-Aug-13 19:58:46

yay! they have started .

VAMOS !!!!!

Raahh Sun 11-Aug-13 19:59:09

<Gets refresh finger limbered up>

Raahh Sun 11-Aug-13 20:07:16

ok, I'm a bit ahead of myself <clicks refresh>

GameSetAndMatch Sun 11-Aug-13 20:07:58

and Ive itched switched off channel! gonna be unsociable now!

Shame about Murray/Fleming but hey, they got to the final.

GameSetAndMatch Sun 11-Aug-13 20:17:05

you know, if I was a fan id have called myself GamesetandSCRATCH (just winding you all up) grin

and another coincidence- the other day it was Becker on topgear.

just now-switch off sports channel and put radio on and that song 'I touch myself' came on!!! grin

Raahh Sun 11-Aug-13 20:38:47

4-1 VAMOS!!

ClayDavis Sun 11-Aug-13 20:52:45

Oops, fell asleep and missed the first set refreshing. Vamos.

Raahh Sun 11-Aug-13 20:54:49

ClayDavis Sun 11-Aug-13 20:58:50

I don't think this match is going to take too long.

GameSetAndMatch Sun 11-Aug-13 21:03:53

back one more time and still boycotting [tennis]!

someone start a new thread tomorrow for Cincinati (pref someone who spells the place right!!)?

Raahh Sun 11-Aug-13 21:25:34

Well done Rafa!!!!![tennis]

ClayDavis Sun 11-Aug-13 21:29:36

So what does that do to the rankings then?

Raahh Sun 11-Aug-13 21:40:30

Rafa is now 3rd- but only 750 points behind Murray (Djokovic is way ahead), but Rafa has no points to defend so could end up 2nd after the US open if he gets through a few rounds (if my maths is right) Vamos!!

Raahh Sun 11-Aug-13 22:31:00

And good news from a British perspective- we now have a second bloke in the top 200grin Daniel Evans has reached the final of the Aptos challenger tournament and now stands at 169!

ClayDavis Sun 11-Aug-13 23:45:47

What about James Ward at 175. Isn't that 3 in the top 200 not 2?

Raahh Mon 12-Aug-13 00:06:30

Ooh- Clay- I missed him. Aren't we doing well?? grin

ClayDavis Mon 12-Aug-13 01:07:52

World domination is just months away! grin

GameSetAndMatch Mon 12-Aug-13 12:58:25

and don't forget the girls!

great about evan.

so come on, start a new thread for this weeks tournament! got stuff to do nowso see you later

Raahh Mon 12-Aug-13 13:26:32

No Tsonga again in Cincinattisad

ClayDavis Mon 12-Aug-13 17:40:31

can't seem get the live scoreboard to load. sad

Raahh Mon 12-Aug-13 17:46:33

I usually use this ATP

Mardy Fish has lost- didn't realise how far he had fallen in the rankings. I like Fish- but Mardy, I mean who looks at baby and thinks Mardy is an ok name?grin (am aware mardy probably doesn't mean the same stateside)grin

ClayDavis Mon 12-Aug-13 18:04:44

Thanks, Raahh. That's what I couldn't get to load though. Have tried it again and still having a problem. My internet seems quite slow tonight so might be that. I need tennis today. Might have to hop Doctors is appropriately WTF instead.

I can't imagine that too many people look at a baby and think 'Mardy' is a good name.

Raahh Mon 12-Aug-13 18:17:33

Doctors was ok. Mrs T had some classic linesgrin

My internet is rubbish, has been rubbish since we changed to Virgin.

ClayDavis Mon 12-Aug-13 18:29:50

Am with Plusnet. Did have some problems with speed at the beginning but they sorted them out quickly and I've had no problem since then. Might be because I'm streaming the athletics at the same time but that's not normally a problem. As it seems to be National Kick Clay While She's Down Day I'm guessing the Internet is just joining in. grin

Raahh Tue 13-Aug-13 16:28:15

Just seen Ferrer is in action later, and Raonic is playing Jack Sock. His name always makes me smilesmile

ClayDavis Tue 13-Aug-13 16:57:07

Jack Sock is an awesome name. I think Fed is playing later as well.

Raahh Tue 13-Aug-13 17:11:19

Yes, he's playing Kohlshreiber, who is quite a dangerous opponent really, though I don't think he's ever beaten Fed. But, the way Roger's luck is going, who knows.

ClayDavis Tue 13-Aug-13 20:55:42

Lopez is through to the next round and Ferrer has won the first set. Which reminds me I meant to post this at the weekend. Enjoy.

Raahh Tue 13-Aug-13 21:01:43

Shirtless football- I might even start to like itgringrin
Phwoarrrrr! <shameless lustful thoughts>

Raahh Tue 13-Aug-13 21:09:11

Going by the scoreline, Ferrer isn't making it easy.

ClayDavis Tue 13-Aug-13 21:14:52

No. It was 6-6 in the first set when I first checked the score. Looks like he might have scraped the tie break and is about to go 4-1 down in the second.

Raahh Tue 13-Aug-13 21:17:30

oh crapsad

ClayDavis Tue 13-Aug-13 21:34:46

Oh no. Vamos Ferrer.

Raahh Tue 13-Aug-13 21:35:58

Vamos- c'mon!!

ClayDavis Tue 13-Aug-13 21:41:14

He's a break down in the third. sad

Raahh Tue 13-Aug-13 21:41:46

Raahh Tue 13-Aug-13 21:51:35

Well it's looking better now!

ClayDavis Tue 13-Aug-13 21:52:47

So it is. Go Ferrer.

ClayDavis Tue 13-Aug-13 22:09:27

Match point. Come on.

Raahh Tue 13-Aug-13 22:51:10

My Internet died. Yay ferrer! Hope he took his top off grin

Raahh Wed 14-Aug-13 00:47:53

I really should be going to bed. But jack is Sock-ing it to Raonic grin at the moment. <tired refresh finger>

ClayDavis Wed 14-Aug-13 01:34:13

I'm so with you there on the should be going to bed. The site I'm using refreshes automatically so my refresh finger is nice and rested, unlike the rest of me. The only time these 2 have met before was earlier this year and Sock won so could go either way I reckon.

ClayDavis Wed 14-Aug-13 11:15:38

Murray, Djok, Del Potato and Rafa all playing today.

Raahh Wed 14-Aug-13 11:49:24

ooh Del Potato and Rafa on the same day. shirtless . Will image that whilst pressing my re-fresh buttongrin

Raahh Wed 14-Aug-13 11:49:37

ClayDavis Wed 14-Aug-13 18:41:35

How's that imagining going? Del Potato has taken the first set.

magimedi Wed 14-Aug-13 19:42:39

Del Potato is doing it all for me!

I have transferred my love from Rafa to Del Potato.

I want him - in more ways than you could believe.

Raahh Wed 14-Aug-13 20:54:17

I have only just sat down to catch up. Go Del Potato!

I really like him, but will remain loyal to Rafagrin. I can support them individually, but the gloves are off if they meet at the semi final stage (i think that's where they may meet). Ferrer is due to meet Del Potato again in the next round- payback for Wimbledon maybe? .

So long as Djoko or Murray don't win the tournament, I'm happy. grin

ClayDavis Wed 14-Aug-13 21:57:34

Well Djok is through so just Nadal to go today. Not sure what time he will be playing. Vamos.

Raahh Wed 14-Aug-13 22:06:36

Vamos! Think he's up about midnight. Not sure I will besad

ClayDavis Wed 14-Aug-13 22:33:26

Neither will I. And this time I actually mean it...probably. grin

Raahh Thu 15-Aug-13 00:21:36

Well, I'm refreshing the first game and imagining Rafa shirtless .But I will be going to bed soon.Reallygrin

Raahh Thu 15-Aug-13 00:41:23

3-0 . So far, so goodgrin

Raahh Thu 15-Aug-13 00:59:19

First set Rafa,Vamos !

ClayDavis Thu 15-Aug-13 01:15:09

Well I couldn't leave you to post alone all night Raahh. grin.

magimedi Thu 15-Aug-13 07:56:59

I was amazed & a bit sad to hear about Bartoli's retirement. At least she has her Wimbledon.

Mama1980 Thu 15-Aug-13 07:58:33

ds2 decided to sleep during rafas match, something he hardly ever does so I missed it. Great result though.
Sad about bartoli but hope its the right decision for her.

Raahh Thu 15-Aug-13 10:12:10

Just read that about Bartoli- she's going out on a high, good for her. It's a shame she won't be defending her title, but really this year was her best shot, with all the unprecedented upsets. I really warmed to her by the end, with her little gigglegrin

I couldn't stay awake to stare at my scoreboard, so am glad to see rafa didn't blow it. VAMOS!!!

Raahh Thu 15-Aug-13 10:13:17

And [tennis] in honour of Marion.

siezethenight Thu 15-Aug-13 10:15:14

[TENNIS] Ladies!
Excuse my absence - work and a mahoosive headache.
But - Marion has retired!? Quite shocked this morning when I read the news.
I shall miss her a lot around the tournaments sad

Raahh Thu 15-Aug-13 20:30:48

eek! not the best first set from Federer. Doing better in the second.

And Ferrer is outsad

But Del Potato is still in- despite an iffy second second set.

ClayDavis Thu 15-Aug-13 21:49:17

Seize you're back. sad about ferrer but pleased potato is still in.

Unless i can find an app I'm going to be a bit tennis free tonight.

Raahh Thu 15-Aug-13 22:26:37

murray is through unfortunately . Federer fought off Haas.

Fingers crossed for Nadal -VAMOS !! (might not be awake then).

ClayDavis Thu 15-Aug-13 22:48:57

oi. leave murray alone. vamos nadal. off to see if i can find a tennis app.
hang on. we seem to have cake. why no [tennis]?

Raahh Thu 15-Aug-13 23:02:00

Why have we got cake???

I am not a Murray fan, and refuse to be made one just because he's Britishgrin

bloody cake

ClayDavis Thu 15-Aug-13 23:13:00

i have no idea. we still have the crown as well. just remembered i changed my google account settings and haven't added my phone as a device. so as im a complete numpty and cant use laptop either tonight i can't download apps from google play either.

no [tennis].

must remember not to let the electric run out in future.

Raahh Thu 15-Aug-13 23:36:09

does the [crown] work?

I need to go to bed. It's dd1's 7th birthday tomorrow- she's very excited. I need sleep to deal with her giddiness!

GameSetAndMatch Fri 16-Aug-13 19:51:04

o ffs shoutapovas 'parted ways' with Jimmy Connors after just 1 match and a match she lost.

spoilt illittle brat. just wants to surround herself with yes people and Jimmy obv speaks his mind.

Raahh Fri 16-Aug-13 20:29:53

Shrieky is a spoilt madam. She is very talented. But her 'off-court' stuff seems far more important, and obviously lucrative, than anything she does oncourt. Which is probably unfair of me, but it's the way she appears. Like her relationship with Dimitrov- she'll probably drop him like a hot potato when someone better for her career comes along. grin

I like Jimmy. He can coach me. <disclaimer: I can't play. At all grin>

Just got back from DD1's birthday shopping trip/tea. Large amounts of money spent on ppink glittery tat from Claire's. She's had a ballgrin

Raahh Fri 16-Aug-13 20:31:01

Jimmy doesn't strike me as someone who would put up with her ego. Probably why they didn't last, the last time they hooked up.

Raahh Fri 16-Aug-13 20:41:57

And Del potato is inthe semi's , lovely. Just need Federer to play as indifferently as he has been of late, and Nadal will go through. Bet theis will be the day Fed finds his form!

And Djoko isn't having it all his own way against Isner!

Raahh Fri 16-Aug-13 20:50:40

Isner won! The King of Cincinatti has been de-throned.

Raahh Fri 16-Aug-13 20:52:32

ffs- I can't spell Cincinnati grin

Raahh Fri 16-Aug-13 20:53:29

and Berdych is winning his first set against Murray. Go Tomas grin

Mama1980 Fri 16-Aug-13 20:55:16

Great match from isner he really went for broke
Now c'mon rafa!

Raahh Fri 16-Aug-13 21:03:50

I'm gutted I can't actually watch. I like Isner. He's always on the fringes, plodding away(and will be forever connected to his match against Mahut). he has nothing to lose by going for it- I like players who play like that.

Mama1980 Fri 16-Aug-13 21:14:56

Me too. Thought isner was a very good sportsman at a couple of difficult moments too, Like to see that.
I treated myself to a tennis tv subscription grin

Raahh Fri 16-Aug-13 21:29:53

grin I might have to succumb at some point--will sell a child--

Raahh Fri 16-Aug-13 21:50:26

Woot!Go Tomas!grin

Bet Nadal loses now, will serve me right for being smuggrin

but if Rafa wins the tournament, he goes up to number 2 in the rankings- VAMOS !

Raahh Sat 17-Aug-13 01:12:10

oh rubbish- what did i say? Roger is has won the first set, and is going to choose today of all days to remember how to play.

C'mon Rafa!!!

ClayDavis Sat 17-Aug-13 09:39:50

Nadal through, so that makes the semi-finals Isner v Del Potato and Berdych v Nadal. Both on at sensible times as well. 6pm for Isner/Potato and after 7.30pm for Nadal/Berdych.

Raahh Sat 17-Aug-13 12:52:47

But potentially it could mean a Del Potato/Rafa final- which is a shame. I want Nadal to win the tournament, but wouldn't be too sad if Del Po beat him.

Looks like I the Nadal/Fed match was a good one. When they are both playing well,it's a classic match up.

ClayDavis Sat 17-Aug-13 14:13:23

I know. I haven't decided which side of the fence I'm going to be sitting on if it's a Rafa/del Potato final. I think I'd put my money on Rafa to win.

Wimbledon looks like it might have been a blip. Maybe he just can't do grass with that knee. Is going to make the US interesting with Rafa having beaten Djok in Montreal and Djok and Murray going out relatively early in Cincinnati. Especially if Fed has remembered how to play.

Raahh Sat 17-Aug-13 16:20:27

Wimbledon was definitely a blip, imo, and it's known that the grass is the worst surface for his knee. That and playing half a dozen or so tournaments since his comeback and getting to final of all of them. It's not a bad statisticgrin. He could have chosen to skip Wimbledon, he gave it a go.

No doubt the dissenters will be spreading the drugs rumours, if he does well here and at the US open.

I hope if Rafa and Del potato make the final, they will do it topless. Since I won't be able to watch, I will just imagine that they aregrin.

ClayDavis Sat 17-Aug-13 17:06:40

Just watching the athletics at the moment. The sound of the crowd is phenomenal.

Raahh Sat 17-Aug-13 17:33:42

I keep missing the athleticssad

Am so glad Mo Farah did well.

Raahh Sat 17-Aug-13 17:41:37

<sigh> we have just dismantled dd2's cot bed and put it in the loft. We acquired a proper single bed from a friend who couldn't fit it in her new house. No more babiessad

Raahh Sat 17-Aug-13 19:22:08

First set Del Potato!

ClayDavis Sat 17-Aug-13 20:04:35

sad, Raahh. She will always be your baby though.

Crunch time for Del Potato.

Raahh Sat 17-Aug-13 20:13:04

I knowsad <whispers> she's only got out twice and is now asleepgrin

C'mon Del Potato!

Raahh Sat 17-Aug-13 20:17:05

Oh, Del Potato!!

Mama1980 Sat 17-Aug-13 20:21:02

Just got in ds2 on boob, ds1 and dd got out monopoly, tennis on ipad for me = evening sorted grin looking forward to rafa!
Crowd is really getting behind isner

Raahh Sat 17-Aug-13 20:34:48

I suppose home support is an advantage.

C'mon Del Potato!grin

ClayDavis Sat 17-Aug-13 20:36:30

Twice is good going. My aunt had to move her youngest from a cot when she learnt to climb out. We'd be sitting downstairs eating and you'd hear 'thud' as she hit the floor. Was much safer in a bed even if she never stayed put.

Potato might be in trouble here. Come on El Potato.

Raahh Sat 17-Aug-13 20:40:25

Oh Potato!! Don't give up! (though I like Isner, I want Juan to wingrin)

Raahh Sat 17-Aug-13 20:46:22

I think Isner maybe winning the battle of the giants.

ClayDavis Sat 17-Aug-13 20:51:49

His serve is massive. It's usually difficult to break him. I think this might be the end for Potato.

Raahh Sat 17-Aug-13 21:06:34

sad for Del Potato.

VAMOS Rafa- his record against Berdych is very good- Berdych last beat him about 7 years ago!

Mama1980 Sat 17-Aug-13 22:15:45

Yay first set rafa grin

Raahh Sat 17-Aug-13 22:16:43

ClayDavis Sat 17-Aug-13 22:32:56

Vamos Rafa. First set won.

ClayDavis Sat 17-Aug-13 23:36:41

Rafa/Isner final. Solves my fence sitting problem nicely.

Raahh Sun 18-Aug-13 05:57:47

I fell asleep. Somehow, refreshing a screen doesn't keep me awake the way a live match would.grin

VAMOS! Rafa!

Raahh Sun 18-Aug-13 11:48:14

So- 5.30pm start for the final? I hope Rafa can do it, but I have a niggly feeling Isner might cause an upset. He'll have the crowd-and a 9 inch height advantagegrin

ClayDavis Sun 18-Aug-13 13:20:28

It's his serve that's the problem. He doesn't really have much of a game other than that. He's capable of winning almost every service game on his serve alone and it's difficult to find a break. It's why so many of his matches go to tie breaks in every set and a ridiculous number of games in the final set.

A 9 inch height advantage helps as well. I think you're right about an upset though.

Raahh Sun 18-Aug-13 14:20:01

It's funny about the serve thing-there have been a lot of heavy servers over the years, who have never really made it. They've made top 10,but never won major titles. Karlovic springs to mind- another 6ft 10 giantgrin

I hope we are wrong about an upset, he's never beaten Nadal (hasn't played him that often though, and twice they met on clay). I'm strangely excited, for something I can't even watch!!

ClayDavis Sun 18-Aug-13 14:28:13

Raahh Sun 18-Aug-13 17:41:08

and they're off

ClayDavis Sun 18-Aug-13 17:49:37

<crosses everything>

Raahh Sun 18-Aug-13 18:25:27

Raahh Sun 18-Aug-13 18:37:35

I bloody hate tie breaks

Raahh Sun 18-Aug-13 18:43:50

Raahh Sun 18-Aug-13 18:44:23

now bagel the next set, my nerves are frayinggrin

ClayDavis Sun 18-Aug-13 18:56:26

Just nipped out to Tesco 'quickly' and missed the end of the first set. Must make a note not to ever go there at this time on a Sunday evening.

Vamos Rafa. I have a feeling this is going to be a long match. Hope his knee can take it.

Raahh Sun 18-Aug-13 19:30:18

I hate tie breaks. Have I said that alreadygrin?

Fortunately he has a week to recover before the US open starts- and hopefully will get a reasonably good draw.If he wins, he'll be second in the rankings, so I hope that is reflected in his seeding.

<whispers> it's looking good....

Raahh Sun 18-Aug-13 19:34:19

go Rafa!!

Mama1980 Sun 18-Aug-13 19:46:17

ClayDavis Sun 18-Aug-13 19:51:54

Yay Rafa!!

Strangely disappointed that there wasn't a third set. That would make sense if I was actually watching the tennis but I'm not. Just looking at a screen refreshing itself.

Raahh Sun 18-Aug-13 20:00:44

it reminds me of the good old days, watching Ceefaxgrin

ClayDavis Sun 18-Aug-13 20:01:26

Think I might have skipped that stage. grin

Raahh Sun 18-Aug-13 20:04:32

It was scintillating stuff, Clay grin

ClayDavis Sun 18-Aug-13 20:36:27

Williams/Azarenka in women's final at about 9pm ish. Not having to listen to Azarenka shreik might be an advantage of a refreshing screen over watching tennis live.

Raahh Sun 18-Aug-13 20:45:19

grin@ Clay

Yes- this 'scoreboard only' tennis watching has some advantagesgrin

ClayDavis Sun 18-Aug-13 21:17:50

All it needs now is some more interesting photos than head shots and we'd be set.

Raahh Sun 18-Aug-13 21:54:52

I have been reading a few accounts of the match- it seems Rafa's serve was just as problematic for Isner as the other way around. And after a week of failing to spell Cincinatti/Cincinati/Cincinnati correctly, I realise no-one can- hence it keeps getting shortened to Cincygrin

A week to the US open. A whole fortnight of scoreboard watching action to look forward togrin

ClayDavis Sun 18-Aug-13 22:01:06

One week. Where did that time go? Hope seize has got her sky trial sorted. Am guessing the chance of getting [tennis] back for the US Open is slim to none.

First set of women's final is looking a bit one sided.

ClayDavis Sun 18-Aug-13 22:45:20

I take that back. One set each.

ClayDavis Mon 19-Aug-13 00:14:32

Jinxed that one completely. Go Azarenka.

NoComet Mon 19-Aug-13 01:01:03

Vamps Rafa
And sod not being able to watch any of it.

siezethenight Mon 19-Aug-13 10:28:43

Tennis fans - one gigantic migraine later and I am back!
No baby as yet - the stinker is late.
I am calling Sky today clay Its on my list of things to do before I can't do anything because baby is coming - if she ever comes. She better flipping not arrive when I have got my free months worth of tennis meaning i am stuck in a maternity ward missing out on New Balls Please... Utterly selfish of me really!

Raahh Mon 19-Aug-13 19:56:28

Ooh, Monfils is playing at the Winston-Salem open- not 'seen' him in action since RG.

ClayDavis Mon 19-Aug-13 20:06:23

Winston-Salem you say. Was wondering what I was going to 'watch' this week.

I think I read somewhere that Tsonga was going to be out of US Open as well.

Raahh Mon 19-Aug-13 20:35:44

No, Tsonga out if US as well? sad

Raahh Mon 19-Aug-13 20:37:36

I hope it's nothing serious. I can't even remember waft he pulled out of Wimbledon with.

Raahh Mon 19-Aug-13 20:38:30

Waft?? What!

ClayDavis Mon 19-Aug-13 20:52:48

I'm pretty sure he didn't waft out grin

Knee injury according to this.

Turns out we missed International Apostrophe Day on Friday. wink We could have had load's of fun with misplaced apostrophe's.

Raahh Mon 19-Aug-13 23:03:05

I will never be able to live down my misplaced apostrophegrin

Raahh Mon 19-Aug-13 23:04:01

There's a lot of knee trouble about.

Tsonga needs Del Potro's magic medicinegrin

ClayDavis Mon 19-Aug-13 23:28:44

We all need some of Del Potro's magic medicine.

siezethenight Tue 20-Aug-13 07:22:02

I have a spot of knee trouble myself raahh The inability to uncross legs and get up and move... Knees simply won't allow it. Been far, far too lazy this summer.
Okay - I have looked up the Sky Sports thingie ahead of my call to them today (yesterday was manic - no, no baby). According to website I can upgrade to Sky Sports and get free broadband for 12 months but it does not make it clear if this is for existing broadband customers or if its an offer for those without their broadband.
I think it will be better for me to get the free months trial tbh, if there is one as it does not say on their site so am going to have to pull the loyal customer card on them I think... But then what do I do next year when I can't get a free month trial?
Worry about htat at the time perhaps?

Midwife informs Dd is going in on 28th to be induced if baby does not arrive of own accord - calamity! Tennis will be on and I sincerely doubt the hospital has Sky Sports...

Raahh Wed 21-Aug-13 20:22:07

Not long now til the US open starts (VAMOS Rafa!)

We probably need a new thread in it's honour.

seize that baby needs to make an appearance soongrin

ClayDavis Wed 21-Aug-13 21:01:28

5 days, Raahh, 5 days. Not that I'm counting or anything.

Raahh Wed 21-Aug-13 23:11:05

ClayDavis Thu 22-Aug-13 11:33:00

Those of you with Sky may put your ear plugs away. Shrieky has pulled out of the US Open with a shoulder injury.

Samantha Murray, Baltacha and James Ward all playing in qualifying rounds today.

Raahh Thu 22-Aug-13 13:11:08

and the seedings are out- Rafa seeded 2, which is good. The draw should be out today sometime.

Shrieky is probably sulking about something. There is something about her whole attitude, however good she is, that I don't like. Connors is well rid of hergrin

PetiteRaleuse Thu 22-Aug-13 13:17:31

Jsut FYI I got an email to say that Tsonga will come back from injury at the Metz tournament in September. It's my local ATP event, I might just have to go and have an ogle a look.

Raahh Thu 22-Aug-13 14:59:07

ooh, Petite-ogle away!

ClayDavis Thu 22-Aug-13 20:26:28

Of course, you will be totally focusing on the tennis, Petite. Supporting your local ATP event.

Qualifying round of the US Open rained off at the moment so not much play going on there. Baltacha was doing quite well (6-3, 5-0). but not sure what time the other Brits are playing.

Raahh Thu 22-Aug-13 21:09:01

On a different note, and inspired by an 'awol posters' thread, I haven't 'seen' MrsVamos for AGES. Not since Wimbledon 'Black Monday' when Rafa went out. Hope she's ok, or just NC'd and ready to cheer on the master- because he is going to do well at the US Open. He is. <stamps foot>.<takes care not to bugger up knee> grin

PetiteRaleuse Thu 22-Aug-13 21:10:03

Absolutely. Will not AT ALL try to get the seats next to where the players sit abetween games nd change shirts oh no not at all. Watching Monfils and Gasquet from very close quarters a few years ago was only good for the superb quality of the tennis. Actually Monfils' match was cut short because Tipsarevic got injured. V dull.

Raahh Thu 22-Aug-13 21:19:53

Raahh Thu 22-Aug-13 21:21:12

And who do we lobby to get out [tennis] back for the US Open?

cake is not the samegrin

Raahh Thu 22-Aug-13 22:23:58

Right- I've been very brave (after 7 years) and posted in site stuff.

Petition for the return of the [tennis] HERE

magimedi Thu 22-Aug-13 22:55:02

I've gone in backed you up, Raahh.

Even though I won't be here to watch it.

Got to go to son's wedding party - at least he had the decency not to arrange the actual marriage over Wimbledon fortnight.

KIDS!! I ask you. Play havoc with your tennis time! grin

PS I ain't been here a year yet & have posted several times in site stuff and in AIBU!!

ClayDavis Thu 22-Aug-13 22:55:59

cake is definitely not the same. You can't play [tennis] with cake. Well you could but it would be a) messy and b) a waste of cake.

Since I've already been brave/stupid with my mumsnet posting today I will petition with you.

Raahh Thu 22-Aug-13 23:02:14

I won't be able to watch the US Open either- apart from the final, probably, which is usually on tv. But I still think we need the [tennis].

Raahh Thu 22-Aug-13 23:03:56

magi- my dc's are never getting married (they are only 10.5 ,7 and nearly 3, but they are still NEVER GETTING MARRIED)

Raahh Thu 22-Aug-13 23:05:03

yay! I've started a petitiongrin

but after apostrophe-gate, they probably think I'm a numpty grin

ClayDavis Thu 22-Aug-13 23:21:37

I won't be able to watch it. My refreshing finger is limbering up though.

Just checked the schedule for the online course I signed up to. The first exam period is 26th August to 9th September. What utter numpty scheduled that for the exact dates of the US Open?

magimedi Fri 23-Aug-13 07:31:41

Raahh - I can guarantee you that after the teens & early 20's you will be positively delighted when they do. grin

siezethenight Fri 23-Aug-13 10:47:45

Baby has been born. She's a very good girl, born before the tennis begins. She'll get a very nice rattle for that.
48 hour labour. Last night was the first sleep I got and Dd & partner got in all that time. It was heaven last night, so much sleep - 5 hours straight. Blissed out.
Off out to get milk, coffee, tea bags now as all out thanks to visitors. Home then to call Sky at last!

Raahh Fri 23-Aug-13 10:54:12

Huge congratulations, seize- flowers.

And excellent timing!

magi- you are probably right. grin

Clay- your course has clearly not been set up by a tennis fan.!

My refresh finger is limbered up and ready!

ClayDavis Fri 23-Aug-13 11:41:21

Congratulations, seize. flowers. She's clearly a tennis fan and has arrived in time.

Raahh. I'm envisaging a hefty cramming session over the weekend and then trying to see if I can get the exam out of the way as soon as possible. Since I can't really be arsed to pay the money to get it accredited it's not really that important whether I pass it or not.

magimedi Fri 23-Aug-13 12:06:11

Many congratulations, siexe - enjoy that wonderful newborn time & cuddles & sniffing their lovely smell & softness and, and I want one!

(Waiting for a DGC)

magimedi Fri 23-Aug-13 12:06:29

sieze obviously.

MrsVamos Fri 23-Aug-13 22:48:57

<runs in screaming>

<waves to all>

Raahh He's going to win. grin

ClayDavis Fri 23-Aug-13 23:51:28

MrsVamos you're back. We were wondering where you were. <waves>

Raahh. They're thinking about your [tennis] request. That sounds as though it might be promising.

MrsVamos Sat 24-Aug-13 00:05:24

Well, I didn't really go anywhere, just that RL has been so busy I haven't been here. grin

We need balls.

ClayDavis Sat 24-Aug-13 00:09:24

Damn that RL grin. I agree we need balls. We have cake so should have [tennis]. Much fewer calories. grin.

magimedi Sat 24-Aug-13 11:51:29

Give us our balls!

Raahh Sat 24-Aug-13 14:58:07

MRSV!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is!grin

We need our balls back. Or we will be spamming the boards with

if Icould be bothered

Raahh Sat 24-Aug-13 18:00:51

Just been watching the clip of the No.1s celebrations on the ATP site. Lovely to see the lovely Stefangrin. And Rafa, obviously. Some have aged better than othersgrin.

And Monfils is in the final at Winston-Salem. That's good.

Raahh Sat 24-Aug-13 19:36:28

sadly, Gael lost sad

ClayDavis Sat 24-Aug-13 20:10:27

I'd forgotten about Winston-Salem. Got a bit carried away with checking the US Open news.

FarleyD Sat 24-Aug-13 20:41:39

Hello lovely people, have you been here all along? Has Seize's daughter had her baby yet (have only just discovered thread and too excited to read it before posting, so apols if all info is in the thread).

Can't believe how quickly the summer has gone and that US open is nearly upon us. Have been away a lot so haven't seen much tennis but have been keeping up with the news. Also been following lovely potato on FB! And have got tickets for ATP final in O2 so looking forward to that. Hit me with the gossip then

FarleyD Sat 24-Aug-13 20:43:38

Ooh, just read the baby's arrived! Lovely. Is she going to have a tennis themed name? Serena perhaps? Or Steffie?!

Raahh Sat 24-Aug-13 20:56:23

<waves> @ Farley [tennis]

I'm really looking forward to the US, even though I can't watchgrin

Am envy @ the ATP finals ticket.

Rafa's on a roll, and Del Potato has been looking good. Also hoping for a good run for Ferrer. It's shame Tsonga is still out, though. Grudgingly, though, I think Djoko is the man to beat.

ClayDavis Sat 24-Aug-13 21:11:23

<waves to Farley>

FarleyD Sat 24-Aug-13 21:12:08

Hi Raahh, nice to see you! I've been onto Site Stuff and joined your campaign for balls! Come with me to ATP - Dh is coming under protest, and has made me promise not to drool too openly .... Not sure I can comply with that!

Why can't you watch US?

FarleyD Sat 24-Aug-13 21:14:19

Hi Clay. Do I have to do this - [tennis] - in every post? Does it help the campaign?!

ClayDavis Sat 24-Aug-13 21:15:41

I don't think you have to do it. It's just some of us are in denial about the loss of the tennis balls! grin Probably won't help the campaign.

Raahh Sat 24-Aug-13 21:17:37

Farley- I only have a bog standard Virgin package- so I'm hoping some of it will shown on 'proper' telly. The final usually is. I have been flexing my re-fresh finger on the ATP site, and pretending I can see the players topless

ClayDavis Sun 25-Aug-13 15:41:46

One day to go. Order of play is out.

Raahh Sun 25-Aug-13 16:54:56

My ability work out tie differences is rubbishgrin. I'm assuming they are 5 hours behind, so 1pm would be 6pm here?

<Has everything crossed the first on day does not throw up any surprises>

Raahh Sun 25-Aug-13 16:56:44

not sure where that'on' came from.

ClayDavis Sun 25-Aug-13 17:10:34

It's New York isn't it so yes 5 hrs behind. I added 5 hrs for Montreal and cincinnati so should work.

Raahh Sun 25-Aug-13 17:21:23

I've just re-read my message. WTF are 'tie differences'? Bow or windsor knot? grin

FarleyD Sun 25-Aug-13 17:23:04

Thanks for order of play Clay. Yes, NY five hours behind us. Potato puts some lovely pics up on his FB! If you have a chance, go take a look - it's the only use I make of FB!

ClayDavis Sun 25-Aug-13 17:40:40

Is it worth joining facebook just to see them?

Raahh Sun 25-Aug-13 17:48:40

I have been stalking reading about Edberg and Nadal on Facebook for ages. The Edberg stream is especially good, as it often puts up things from years ago. And a picture of Nadal's legs always makes my morning. There was a really sweet picture of him and Federer at a charity event on there this morning. I may have to add Del Potato too. grin

Raahh Sun 25-Aug-13 17:50:31

Of course, when looking up Del Potro, don't put 'Del Potato' into the search boxblush

FarleyD Sun 25-Aug-13 18:11:35

I'd say it's worth it Clay but I am a bit obsessed biased!

Raahh you may get something you def didn't bargain for if you search for Potato! I spent some time on YouTube few weeks ago watching Djok doing various impressions of other players, thought he was funny.

Raahh Sun 25-Aug-13 18:22:15

I must admit, though not a fan of Djok, that some of his impressions are very funny.

ClayDavis Sun 25-Aug-13 18:23:07

I might have to youtube his impressions then.

ClayDavis Sun 25-Aug-13 22:25:29

<stomps into thread to throw massive tantrum>

I want the tennis to start now. The cricket was exciting this afternoon. Now there seems to be a massive hole that should be filled by the tennis starting tonight.

Raahh Sun 25-Aug-13 22:30:36

magimedi Sun 25-Aug-13 22:33:57

0 0 0 0 0 0 0

I want balls - preferably potato ones!

Raahh Sun 25-Aug-13 22:36:07

<arf> @ Potato balls grin

Raahh Sun 25-Aug-13 22:40:46

Am contemplating a name change.

But it didn't go so well for Wimbledon.grin

Or summat.

ClayDavis Sun 25-Aug-13 22:45:49

There is always the chance that that name could be an almighty jinx, Raahh.

magimedi Sun 25-Aug-13 22:47:29

Potato for US glory (again)

He is so F I T !!!

ClayDavis Sun 25-Aug-13 22:52:21

Go Del Potato. You're winning me over on Nadal. I still love Fed more though.

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 10:43:10

You're right about the name change clay, I am a jinx, debates changing to GoMuRaahh grin

I hope fed has a good run. He clearly doesn't want to retire yet, but another early loss here would be very sad. I like the fed/nadal rivalry because they are so very different. Like watching edbetg/Becker. Djokovic/Murray doesn't do it for me because they are so very similar.

Good to see so many of the top players there, sad to see the gap where cilic should be- I hope the allegations come to nothingsad.

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 10:43:50

The [tennis] isn't back yetsad

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 14:00:56

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 14:01:06

ClayDavis Mon 26-Aug-13 16:27:12

The [tennis] isn't back sad but the tennis is grin.

ClayDavis Mon 26-Aug-13 16:29:45

Robson and Dan Evans both a break down in the first set.

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 16:47:14

Once again, I am going to get obsessed with refreshing the screengrin

ClayDavis Mon 26-Aug-13 17:04:31

I think I reached levels of obsession last night when nothing on it was refreshing.

Set point for Robson.

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 17:47:24

Evans is doing well!excellent result if he can pull this off.

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 17:52:21

And well done Robson!

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 17:54:44

ClayDavis Mon 26-Aug-13 18:02:04

Should move him up the ranking nicely if he wins this. I think.

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 18:09:06

Yay!Evans! [tennis]

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 18:13:02

my live ranking update-y thing, is not very livehmm- I reckon he'll go to about 156-ish . was 162 at the start.

ClayDavis Mon 26-Aug-13 18:15:14

If it's the live one I'm looking at it reckons it last updated at 17:39.

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 18:17:11

that's the one. But it hasn't updated his win yet. Get your fingers out!grin

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 18:20:19

Need Venus to get rid of Pipkins super quick, so Nadal can win his first match, and I can sleep easilygrin. Of course, as she isn't seeded, it would count as a big upset. (though past form would dispute that).

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 18:22:39

erm. What's that funny symbol I seem to have created?

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 18:22:54's gone....

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 18:23:16

ClayDavis Mon 26-Aug-13 18:26:21

Yeah, I had refreshed it a couple of times but no joy.

Not too quickly. I have a big stack of human physiology stuff I'm trying to read. I'm not sure it'll be an upset at all if she wins.

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 18:32:07

No, it won't be, really. Pipkins had a good run at Wimbledon, but got lucky I think.

I ought to clear up. i had an impromptu BBQ. Seemed like a good idea at the timegrin

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 18:56:37

yay, I was right. Evans at 156!

Mama1980 Mon 26-Aug-13 19:37:22

Just got home, having takeaway so we can all sit down and watch the rafa match smile

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 19:43:38

I am going to sit and visualise the Rafa match grin

ClayDavis Mon 26-Aug-13 19:55:37

Will this help the visualisation?

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 19:56:09

ooh yes, Clay

ClayDavis Mon 26-Aug-13 20:06:04

That's a good start.

Mama1980 Mon 26-Aug-13 20:07:31

Break to rafa first game, grin
Lets hope this is nice and easy
Some amazing shots too

Mama1980 Mon 26-Aug-13 20:08:04

grin Very pretty pics

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 20:48:06

First set. Vamos !

FarleyD Mon 26-Aug-13 21:26:04

Rafa off to a good start!

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 21:27:46

ClayDavis Mon 26-Aug-13 21:33:33

Vamos, second set won.

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 21:36:36

Rafa! Rafa!

<the ball is never coming back,is it?sad>

ClayDavis Mon 26-Aug-13 21:39:52

I think they've forgotten. Isn't tech in New York? Maybe he's watching the [tennis].

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 21:41:39

<waves> @ tech.

chucks a [tennis] in his directiongrin

I would bump my own begging thread in site stuff. But that would look sad and needy grin

ClayDavis Mon 26-Aug-13 21:51:10

Bumped it for you. Pretty sure I now look sad and needy. grin.

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 22:00:05

but Rafa is winninggrin

happy Monday grin

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 22:09:59

oh yes!!

I can go to sleep happy now.

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 22:21:04

And Gulbis is out!

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 22:52:44

So, to re-cap RAFA IS THROUGH grin

and Robson, and Evans after a brilliant career result.

I'd love to be awake to 'watch' Fed, but don't think it's going to happengrin

ClayDavis Mon 26-Aug-13 23:00:00

Djok, Monfils and Watson all playing tomorrow. And Jack Sock too.

Raahh Mon 26-Aug-13 23:08:48

I love Jack Sock. Just because he has the best name ever . grin

Raahh Tue 27-Aug-13 12:07:21

Vamos! Ferrer!- closing in on the number 3 ranking spot too.

Tuesday order of play

ClayDavis Tue 27-Aug-13 18:31:40

Might get to 'see' Federer after all.

ClayDavis Tue 27-Aug-13 20:41:02

Monfils is through.

Raahh Tue 27-Aug-13 21:04:51

and first set Fed!

ClayDavis Tue 27-Aug-13 21:15:57

He's a break up in the second as well. Still no balls though. I think we're being ignored.

Raahh Tue 27-Aug-13 21:23:46

I've just seen Janowicz has lost- that's a shocker, none of the 'new breed' seem to be fufilling their potential yet.

Raahh Tue 27-Aug-13 22:14:12

Fed's through. That's a good start for him.

ClayDavis Tue 27-Aug-13 22:17:42

Pretty much going to plan so far. A set each in the Jack Sock match.

Raahh Tue 27-Aug-13 22:36:05

Sock needs 2 sets. A pair of Socks.

ClayDavis Tue 27-Aug-13 22:40:15

He's on his way to a pair. 4-1 in the third.

Raahh Tue 27-Aug-13 22:56:38

C'mon Sock-y!

ClayDavis Tue 27-Aug-13 23:04:27

Oh Petzschner's retired. Go Sock.

Heather's on now. Go Heather.

Raahh Tue 27-Aug-13 23:51:21

yay!First set to Heather- I hope she does well, she is really very good. Such a shame illness has put her back, getting through this round will be a huge boost.

Raahh Tue 27-Aug-13 23:52:00

Sock-it to 'im....etc.

he has such a good name...envy

ClayDavis Wed 28-Aug-13 00:12:40

She's not completely better yet. As far as I know she's still having up and down days but is improving. Hope she can get through a couple of rounds here.

Jack Sock. It gets better every time you say it.

gailforce1 Wed 28-Aug-13 08:50:30

Is the Murray match going to be shown anywhere other than Sky can anyone tell me? In need of a tennis fix this morning!

NotAQueef Wed 28-Aug-13 09:28:52

Found you all! [tennis] [tennis] [tennis]
<hopeful> [tennis]

NotAQueef Wed 28-Aug-13 09:30:06

boo - just seen the Murray match is at midnight UK time. Fingers crossed he gets through to next week as have the whole week off! whoop.

magimedi Wed 28-Aug-13 11:57:02

Mama1980 Wed 28-Aug-13 12:18:02

Think the Murray match will be on Eurosport, its on the player app schedule.
Luckily (or not grin) ds2 still breast feeds every two to three hours so midnight isn't much of a problem for me.

BBMs Wed 28-Aug-13 13:05:44

Yay! I have found you all again! smile

Raahh Wed 28-Aug-13 13:49:28

Raahh Wed 28-Aug-13 14:24:32

Del Potato, Wawrinka also in action today. And Laura Robson. Weather permitting (the forecast is iffy, apparently) should be a great day to sit and refresh the results screen grin

ClayDavis Wed 28-Aug-13 17:54:35

Raahh Wed 28-Aug-13 17:59:00

ClayDavis Wed 28-Aug-13 18:07:25

Play suspended. It's timed that just as I get in from work. angry

FarleyD Wed 28-Aug-13 19:20:32

Getting excited about seeing el potato, how sad am I?! Hope nobody gets struck by lightning, I'm terrified of it.

FarleyD Thu 29-Aug-13 00:46:21

Looking good for my potato! You'll note I said "my" - hands off!

FarleyD Thu 29-Aug-13 02:16:27

Hope I didn't speak too soon.

siezethenight Thu 29-Aug-13 08:47:49

I go away to tend to work and the new baby and not only does Farley come back but the frikking tennis are back also!
I am so happy....
How are you Farley? We missed you when you went awol - where did you go!?
I have not got Sky Sports. I have been up to neck in work (for those who are interested that is!) and New Baby Leah has been captivating so, between work and staring lovingly at a baby I forgot to make the call.

I am off right now this nano second to call Sky - Oh yes I am and heaven help the child in my house who wants to watch the X Factor on the weekend as it ain't going to be happening if there is a game on!

siezethenight Thu 29-Aug-13 08:54:51

On hold.... Gailforce1 That's my nickname in Rl - it really is, minus the 1 on the end...

siezethenight Thu 29-Aug-13 09:17:56

Okay - I could not get a free month which made me sulk. It costs 22.00 to get a months worth of tennis as a one off, you can do this as often as you wish as well so if there is rugby for example on and you want to watch just one particular tour, you can pay up as often through the year as you like for a month's worth. Its automatically cancelled after the month so you don't have to bother calling them up and cancelling it.
I said I would consider paying for a month if they came out and installed a box in my son's room as he has a Tv in there and no channels, no ariel and gave me some sort of loyalty price on channels in there as we've been with them so many years.... They agreed! Its free installation as well.

So - Raahh Give me the matches, when are they on?

siezethenight Thu 29-Aug-13 09:18:19

tennis Shame faced. I fecked up the balls!

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 10:04:29

DD2 is being difficult. I'll be back...

Maryz Thu 29-Aug-13 15:31:02

Murray is doing well today tennis

Pity I can't stay and watch the end. I only realised about half an hour ago that it was on Eurosport - we don't have Sky.

Maryz Thu 29-Aug-13 15:33:51

And I've just realised that this is a repeat blush

And my tv signal has just gone.

I give up [sigh] This is why I stick to Wimbledon.

NotAQueef Thu 29-Aug-13 16:59:26

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 17:10:50

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 17:23:16

Lipsticki is about to win, and Ferrer is playing now. Nadal will probably be on in the early hourssad

ClayDavis Thu 29-Aug-13 17:50:11

Yay Lipsticki. Haven't checked last nights scores yet so need to catch up on that. Last I saw Del Potato had dropped the second set. Stupid American networks and their TV ratings. If it wasn't for that matches wouldn't be starting at stupid o'clock in the morning. If it worked like Wimbledon they'd all be over by 2am ish.

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 18:19:41

The fact the US tv companies get to dictate the schedules is really rubbish- and there is no consideration for the players. Del Potato was lucky his match didn't end up postponed until today, with the weather. If he progresses to the latter stages, he will be one of the players with more back to back days play as a result.

oldmacdonaldscow Thu 29-Aug-13 18:44:08

Well, well - here's a turn up for the books. Picture of Dan Evans at 18:23 ...

tennis grin tennis grin tennis grin tennis grin tennis grin

ClayDavis Thu 29-Aug-13 19:14:15

There's another one at 19:09.

tennis grin tennis grin tennis grin tennis grin tennis grin tennis grin tennis grin

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 19:28:55

phew! going to plan for Ferrer- looked a bit shaky at the start of the first set.

Go Dan!

ClayDavis Thu 29-Aug-13 20:04:29

Going Ok for Fed. Heading for a tie break for Jack Sock.

Come on Dan! tennis

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 20:05:36

Not going so well for Dansad

oldmacdonaldscow Thu 29-Aug-13 20:19:43

Ooooooh! Missed that one, clay Ta!

tennis grin

Not going well though. I think he needs more time to get over his past attitude and to mature. <cough>

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 20:24:45

oh crap. Ferrer lost the second set.

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 20:34:54

Second set Evans!

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 20:36:40

And Ferrer back on track tennis

ClayDavis Thu 29-Aug-13 20:45:01

Dropped sets everywhere.

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 20:54:47

I wish I could hear the commentary for the Tomic/Evans match. Wonder if they've mentioned his dad a dozen times grin

oldmacdonaldscow Thu 29-Aug-13 21:34:57

Woo Hoo! 2:1 Evans grin

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 21:46:06

Dan is running away with it now. Tomic is often thought to be one of the new stars, so a good scalp to get.

Fed and ferrer safely through. tennis

ClayDavis Thu 29-Aug-13 21:53:38

Testing, testing 1, 2, 3

oldmacdonaldscow Thu 29-Aug-13 21:55:09

Go Dan! tennis

Agree raahh - a great scalp if he can do it.

ClayDavis Thu 29-Aug-13 21:56:06

Ooooh. Mumsnet is fixed... maybe. Possibly we broke it with the tennis tennis. Or maybe it was Jamie Oliver.

Just lost a huge post twice but yay Fed and Ferrer and Sock. Looking good for Evans too. Should put him in top 150 I think.

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 21:57:46

whoop!! Go Dan!!!! What a result! Tomic was definitely one to watch, and a danger to the top seeds. Great result.

oldmacdonaldscow Thu 29-Aug-13 21:59:38

YESSSSS! Evans wins! grin tennis grin tennis grin tennis grin tennis

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 21:59:54

He moves to 146 on the back of that- so well done Dan!

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 22:03:00

it's also quite impressive, given he had to play in the qualifiers. So he's played a lot over the past week. And 2 brilliant results to start off.

ClayDavis Thu 29-Aug-13 22:19:01

Has either Robredo or Dancevic in the next round. Not sure how I feel about Fed overtaking Del Potato. Conflicted. Fed, Potato and Berdych close at 5, 6 and 7. 25 points separating the 3 of them.

Is there a similar live feed for the WTA? I can't seem to find one.

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 22:31:46

Clay- I have looked and looked, and can't find one. It's a really interesting thing to look at.

I think Fed is on a downward spiral, so don't begrudge him a few points. I have high hopes for Del Potato- it's easy to forget how young he is. If he stays injury free, I hope he'll be around a while.

I want ferrer to over take Murray

ClayDavis Thu 29-Aug-13 22:46:48

I know Fed's on the way down and Potato's on the way up. There at two completely different stages in their careers. I like Fed and like him to win. He's been at the top of tennis for almost my entire adult life. It'll be weird without him.

I am a bit of a numbers geek. That ATP tennis thing is going to keep me amused for weeks. It's a shame there's no WTA. I thought I'd found a similar Russian site but it hasn't been updated since the beginning of August.

ClayDavis Thu 29-Aug-13 22:48:50

They're not 'there'. Jamie Oliver induce ire has destroyed my grammar.

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 23:02:11

I have never been a Fed fan- but I'm not ready for him to retire. I don't think he is, either. Nadal/Federer as a match is still the match to look out for. They bring out the best in each other.

I have been obsessed by the live ATP rankings site since discovering it early this year. I really need a lifegrin tennis

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 23:02:39

grin Jamie Oliver has a lot to answer for[grin

ClayDavis Thu 29-Aug-13 23:16:51

I didn't really mind JO before either. He has a habit of opening his mouth before engaging brain particularly on subjects he has limited experience of but seemed nice enough. At least I know where I'm going wrong now. I should be putting together a kitty with neighbours to buy utensils to share and sourcing herbs from the park.

Monfils is playing Isner. That'll be a tricky match for him.

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 23:20:31

I'm glad to see Monfils here- but yes, Isner has had a good few weeks. So could be tricky for Gael.

I love how involved I get in something I can't actually see!

ClayDavis Thu 29-Aug-13 23:25:08

I'm not sure if I love it or if I'm worried about myself. I'm not sure what the response of my psychiatrist will be if he asks what I've been doing for the last 3 weeks and I say 'watching a screen with tennis scores refresh'. I think I won't mention it.

Raahh Thu 29-Aug-13 23:27:52

I know what you mean!

ClayDavis Thu 29-Aug-13 23:44:04

Looks like Dan Evans will be facing Robredo in the next round unless something goes wrong.

Mama1980 Fri 30-Aug-13 08:08:32

Vamos rafa! He was awesome smile

ClayDavis Fri 30-Aug-13 09:46:09

Yay. Straight sets for Rafa. Monfils is out though.

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 09:52:04

I fell asleep on the sofa and woke up just in time to 'see' rafa wingrin. Brilliant result * vamos* !!!

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 09:55:56

Shame about Monfils. sad

Not seen the order of play for today. Will track it down when I'm on a laptop grin

Hello! I've missed you guys since wimbles! tennis

Not caught much tennis this week as been mad busy and going to bed early so I can function at work! But I will be dedicated this weekend!

schedule of play

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 10:23:18

thanks Glaikit

Dh is sick of me moaning and is trying to find out if I can watch via the internet- even if we have to pay for the week. I'm sadI can't watch, as Rafa is on amazing form.

Robson up against Li Na- I like her, but I hope Laura can extend her run a bit.

The Murray match could potentially be on at a reasonable-ish time, depending on how quickly the two matches before it are completed. But it's fairly likely to be nearing the middle of the night. Not sure what the weather is like there today.

Raah, what tv do you have??

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 11:17:23

We have a very basic virgin package- only got it for broadband, so no sports channels or anything at all. In fact the only thing we seem to have gained over our old big standard freeview is bloody Boomeranggrin.

So, I amuse myself 'watching' the scores on the atp websitegrin

ClayDavis Fri 30-Aug-13 11:26:04

The web site I normally stream TV and films from has a link to live sports. It does have the tennis but I can't get the links to work. Well one definitely doesn't work, the other is Bet365 and you need to register but I'm not sure if the registering is free or not. In one place it says free, somewhere else it says you have to put a minimum of £10 into an account.

US Open site does have streaming on it but you have to be in the US. I might consider using a proxy server towards the end of the tournament.

Raah, I've pm'd you smile

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 11:59:41

Glaikit- thankyou

Clay - DH has been waffling about various sites. I feign ignorancewink

Show has started on sky, for those who have it(sorry raah)

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 16:36:12

I'm watching the Robson scores with interest, Glaikit grin

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 16:44:00

It's not looking good, though.

Can I add to your experience by describing the outfit she has chosen?

I'll start at her feet

ORANGE trainers
A slightly less orange skirt with a ruffle hem
Beige vest
And a sports brain the same orange as the skirt
White visor, plaited pony tail

Li Na

White trainers
Grey skirt
What looks like a red tiedye tshirt and matching visor!

Feel like you are there yet???

Ooh and the David beck ham ad just came on! That's cheered me up!

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 17:07:05

Sounds delightful, Glaikit grin Sometimes, I think Wimbledon are right with their 'all white clothing' rule [grin}

She's plotting her come back now!

ClayDavis Fri 30-Aug-13 17:43:04

Robson's out. sad

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 17:48:17

The comeback early in the second set was shortlivedsad

I do quite like Li Na, though.

Chubfuddler Fri 30-Aug-13 18:05:42

Poor Laura.

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 20:32:12

Hello lovely people. Hi Sieze, lovely to see you. Congrats to you all on the baby, and I love the name. Also congrats on your handling of the Sky people and the eventual outcome! Life took over a bit after Wimbledon, what with the school hols and all (had to actually speak to the dc), but all calming down a bit now. Have you started your course yet?

Great results for Rafa and Evans. It's so frustrating not being able to actually watch though innit (no Sky here either, and dh resolutely refusing to contribute to their coffers!) Clay, re the US Open site live streaming/ proxy server thing, can you tell us how to do that (change server that is). I am so technologically challenged. I did consider the Bet 3365 (or whatever it is thing, but got no further than that (ie, considering). Perhaps we should all consider a mumsnet trip to New York next year as well as Wimbledon!

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 20:34:52

Djoko safely through- but of a wobble first set. Lipsticki is outsad

Berdych not having it his own way, either.

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 20:37:09

Farley- an MN trip to New York would be ace. tennis

Chubfuddler Fri 30-Aug-13 20:49:22

Poor lipstick.

Is potato still in?

siezethenight Fri 30-Aug-13 20:52:13

Is anybody staying up to watch Murray? I have Leah overnight so will be up watching as she's a machine who eats and cries - no sleep even if I wanted some.

Farley Course starts Monday. I agreed to babysit each Friday night as I get a half day in college on Fridays and Mondays off so figured it was the best night to have her stay over with us. The entire weekend to sit, spaced out wondering what the actual heck just hit me!

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 20:52:39

Yes Chub, Potato playing Hewitt later tonight (7pm NY time).

Chubfuddler Fri 30-Aug-13 20:58:36

I hate it when I like both players. Can they both win please?

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 21:00:04

Sieze, you sound like a lovely grandma! Do you want to have any of my dc on a Friday night? Hope your course goes well, not only for your sake, but also because I haven't forgotten that you may need helpers when you are seeing to injured sportsmen!

Dh has just presented me with a big mug of cocoa - we know how to live in this house! I'm a bit suspicious of his motives ...

Chubfuddler Fri 30-Aug-13 21:01:05

I've given up alcohol until Christmas. It's been a week so far. A very long week.

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 21:05:49

Chub I gave up alcohol in April- and lasted right up to the end of June (when my sister's 40th birthday wrecked my resolve). Am determined to stop again on Monday

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 21:11:32

oh ffs angry

I have just seen a thread basically complaining about the tennis emoticon.

We have cake and a fucking pom bear. Tennis does exist outside of tournaments other than Wimbledon, if people want emoticons for other sports, ask for them.

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 21:14:27

Blimey, just seen a bit of a wildlife programme - Mrs rabbit has literally just given birth and Mr rabbit has mounted her again shock.

Sorry, just felt I had to share that.

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 21:15:54

Who on earth could get bothered enough by an innocuous tennis ball emoticon to complain about it?

siezethenight Fri 30-Aug-13 21:22:29

Ey? Somebody complained about the tennis ??
I may seek it out and post up a tennis Just for fun.

I am a lovely Nan farley I treated her to Paul Simon early, she completely loved it, fell right off to sleep so I could wallpaper. Shall pay for that long nap tonight I fear.

Potato is playing also tonight? When the Sky man asked who I wanted to win, as he was waiting for the activation to kick in, I said Potato, as we call him here.... Because I actually, when put on the spot could not remember how to pronounce his actual name. He's been Del Potato since I read it on here at the start of summer!

siezethenight Fri 30-Aug-13 21:23:42

What thread raahh? I want to go and post up a tennis

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 21:24:22

Farley- no idea. They are moaning there is no cricket ball for the Ashes or a football.

Well, ask for one (as we had been doing for years) and you never know!

grin at the rabbit, except the same thing happened to my rabbits years ago. Only we thought they were both female, until the first litterhmm They were separated by the time the second litter came.grin

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 21:25:50

it's in chat, seize It has annoyed me for no reason. grin.

I have posted (and deleted) a response several times coward

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 21:30:02

Berdych has won (didn't make it easy), so Murray on next.

The Sloane Stephens match may be over quite soon- but don't think Del Potato will be on before midnightsad

Chubfuddler Fri 30-Aug-13 21:38:48

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 21:47:03

Spooky stuff- Murray and his opponent, Mayer share the exact same birthday.

<apologies if this has been mentioned on the tv commentary>
<that i can't watch>

Chubfuddler Fri 30-Aug-13 21:50:23

I'm on the clunking BBC live feed.

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 21:51:18

I'm bitter with you Raahh, it's not fair (challenges 9 yr old ds3).

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 21:52:15

I'm more miffed they won't put Del Potato on earlysad

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 21:54:51

Oops that was meant to be "channels" not "challenges". I just asked dh where his newfound interest in wildlife has come from (still watching rabbit/badger programme). Turns out he's not interested in the least - he can't find the remote.

Chubfuddler Fri 30-Aug-13 21:57:44

Wish they'd put the running score up not just game by game. This is torture.

ClayDavis Fri 30-Aug-13 22:01:29

I would love to tell you how to use a proxy server, but I don't actually now how yet. My Dad uses one to watch UK stuff online so it must be possible to do it from the UK from the US. I'd imagine that it might temporarily mess up your internet settings for other things though.

tennis tennis

I'm not sure we even managed to get a long running Ashes thread. I would have asked for cricket balls if I though there was much demand for them.

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 22:08:32

Farley grin

there have been many times I have been stuck watching cbeebies because iI can't find be arsed looking for the remote grin

Chubfuddler Fri 30-Aug-13 22:09:36

Andy is making terribly heavy weather of this match.

siezethenight Fri 30-Aug-13 22:13:12

I can't find that thread in chat. Mind you, I am watching tennis so not looking too hard.

Raahh Fri 30-Aug-13 22:19:04

sieze- I wouldn't bother. Stick with the tennis and baby snuggles envy on both countsgrin

ClayDavis Fri 30-Aug-13 22:19:45

It's called something like 'why is there a tennis ball emoticon now?', seize.

Good to see Flemming and Marray through in the doubles. Come on Murray.

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 22:20:26

Clay is your Dad in the US? If I decide to deceive dh and go for the sky one day thing (not that I would ever do that off course -- unless it means I can watch El Potato--) can I watch it on the tv? Wouldn't I need an aerial thing? God I know nothing bout all this stuff.

Watching some mildly amusing thing with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon now. Marginally better than the rabbits and badgers.

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 22:22:21

Strikeout fail. I commented on that thread (in a very uncontroversial non- threatening manner, also being a coward).

siezethenight Fri 30-Aug-13 22:23:29

I found it, was going to be all wrathful bit Olivia is having twins at Christmas so just said we loved tennis and then congrats to her...
I am staying put with this thread now - baby is screaming her absolute head off though...

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 22:24:48

If these two can get paid for this (Coogan and Brydon), someone should come and pay us for our pithy contributions to this thread.

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 22:26:22

Is she really having twins? Get the Paul Simon again Sieze - is this bringing back memories for you?

ClayDavis Fri 30-Aug-13 22:32:02

He's in Turkey, Farley. I think he sometimes uses expat shield or something similar to access iplayer and Netflix. I'm sure I read on here somewhere about a US proxy that allowed you to access the US content on Netflix. My virus scanner is throwing some pretty epic wobblies whilst trying to find out about reliable proxy servers though, so I think I'll just leave it and go back to visualising the tennis and watching the live scores update.

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 22:33:14

Breaking news - dh has just stood up, approached the telly and manually turned it over. This is a first.

Sorry folks, as you've probably guessed, Im bored. Get me access to live tennis now!

siezethenight Fri 30-Aug-13 22:35:31

All that exercise will kill him farley he has to take it easy to begin with, just one channel change per evening....

Finally got baby down after horrible 2 hours of crying and eating and all that stuff. Here's hoping she remains down so I can watch this match.

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 22:35:47

Clay, about ninety per cent of your last post went right over the top of my head smile. Thank you though.

ClayDavis Fri 30-Aug-13 22:37:30

About 80% of it went over mine. grin

Chubfuddler Fri 30-Aug-13 22:40:11

This is horrific. Sort it out Murray.

siezethenight Fri 30-Aug-13 22:42:20

I miss Boris....

Chubfuddler Fri 30-Aug-13 22:43:59

Oh thank goodness. I'm so going to have to stay up for this match. Tomorrow looks like being a kids do as they will day

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 22:54:02

Is Boris commentating at the US? Is he not still in your cupboard Seize?

ClayDavis Fri 30-Aug-13 22:55:18

I though he was still in your cupboard, seize.

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 23:08:31

Andy doing well in second set.

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 23:10:25

Dh up on his feet again to change the channel ...

FarleyD Fri 30-Aug-13 23:11:24

Should have been a commentator of some sort shouldn't I?

ClayDavis Fri 30-Aug-13 23:17:10

A missed calling, Farley. Much better second set. Let's hope the third goes as well.

Chubfuddler Fri 30-Aug-13 23:37:21

Oh god it's all going horribly wrong

ClayDavis Fri 30-Aug-13 23:58:10

I jinxed the third set horrifically in my last post. This is the point where all that work with Lendl is supposed to come into play.

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 00:02:51

Has Murray started swearing yet? wink
He'll probably win the match though.

Del Potato should be out soon.
I really must go to bed.sad

Chubfuddler Sat 31-Aug-13 00:06:01

Yes according to the feed he's stomping about gibbering to himself.

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 00:14:23

Whoop- Delpo/Hewitt are on courtgrin

Murray is a very poor loser. Not that he is necessarily going to lose this match, but his attitude when the chips are down has always been rubbish.

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 00:25:37

Not that rubbish. Seems to have nailed the third set.

Vamos Potato.

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 00:26:33

4th set. Can't count.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 00:31:04

Oh god, I defied dh and signed up for the sky 24 hr pass thing. It's taken my payment details happily enough but I cant get on to watch angry. S'not fair. Come on Potato.

NotAQueef Sat 31-Aug-13 00:35:09

raah as much as I love to watch Murray play and support him - I kind of agree re the bad loser thing - I often feel (though less so these days) that he doesn't want to lose more than he wants to win if that makes sense?

siezethenight Sat 31-Aug-13 00:40:04

Boris escaped my cupboard - apparently I was too demanding....

I barely saw any of that match, am about to get Potato on. I have realised, it was good I had my children when young as I can't wait to hand this terror over to her mother tomorrow.

I agree queef It was painful watching Andy play a few years ago, used to cringe at his temper tantrums. He's a bit more controlled these days. And yeah, you are right, it was more that he didn't want to loose rather than he wanted to win.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 00:54:49

How's Potato looking Sieze? Am following the scores but I want to seee him <wines>. Lot to be said for having dc young I agree (not that I did especially). Is she sleeping now?

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 00:55:10

Should have fitted a lock to the door of that cupboard.

Agree about how painful it was watching Andy play a couple of years ago.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 01:02:00

Is Potato wearing black socks?!

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 01:37:32

My clever dd has got me up and running, can see my man, hooray! But he's losing, so fingers crossed.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 01:54:51

Am I the only man left standing?! If so, I'm claiming Potato as all mine! Anyway, he's struggling a bit.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 02:00:35

Phew, second set to Potato. Close though at 7-5.

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 02:03:11

No I'm just about still here. He's not making this easy on himself.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 02:14:15

Don't know who the commentators are (well, one of them is Greg Rubbishski) but there's no doubt who they like best, and it's not Potato.

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 02:34:42

At least it's not McEnro and his Del Poncho/Powtro. I have commentry on the radio but no idea who it is.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 02:41:46

Third set to Potato. Don't want to sound particular (ESP not after all the fuss I've made bout not being able to see it) but I don't like the camera angles they use.

Ooh, Potato has no shirt on. Well worth staying up for.

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 02:44:31

You tease. I can't see that on the radio.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 02:53:40

Sorry Clay. Shouldn't be perving at my age.

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 02:57:03

Tbf the commentry is much better than I expected. The only problem is the commentator keeps calling del Potato, Isner.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 03:01:54

Really? That's a pretty basic mistake to make. Obviously doesnt love Potato like we do.

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 03:08:48

He has stopped now. It's the height that's confusing him apparently. Easy to confuse tall players even when one of them isn't on court.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 03:13:37

My dh is same height as Potato but I haven't got them mixed up yet!

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 03:21:09

Was hoping this wasn't going to 5 sets. If potato doesn't break back here I'm going to bed.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 03:25:18

Don't leave me! Have you got to get up early?

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 03:40:15

No, but too much Eastern US tennis is playing havoc with my body clock. Was so close to falling asleep at work this afternoon.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 03:45:32

Oh dear. Goodnight Clay.

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 03:46:55

Night, Farley.

Vamos Potato.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 04:03:36

Oh dear, Potato been broken early in fifth set. He looks tired. Hewitt has a box full of coaches, relatives etc. Potato only seems to have his coach. If he needs more moral support court side I'm happy to oblige.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 04:12:17

This isn't looking good ...

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 04:15:58

Looking even worse now ... Come on Potato.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 04:25:17

Oh Potato has lost. I'm sad.

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 05:47:36

I had to give up and go to bed. Poor del potato. sad. I've always had a soft spot for Hewitt, but really hoped Delpo would do well here this year.
And dd2 has woken me up at stupid o clock and I can't get back to sleep.

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 05:56:06

Can't believe the commentators were mixing him up with Isnershock.

Chubfuddler Sat 31-Aug-13 06:31:06

Poor potato. On the other hand am stoked, as they say, for lovely Leyton.

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 06:45:05

Lleyton certainly has a knack of causing upsets- and he is great to watch. He certainly doesn't give up.

siezethenight Sat 31-Aug-13 06:52:20

Oh, Potato sad I confess, I fell asleep in the last set. I finally got Leah down and lay on couch with intent to only lay down not sleep. I woke up just 15 mins ago with telly still on.
I am the worlds worst Nan. This was her first night here and she cried and cried until she clearly got exhausted then fell to sleep. She has done a poo as well, I heard it after the 4am feed but she went right to sleep after a huge burp so I left her hmm.
I will change her when she wakes up now for food and will keep the poo nappy secret to self...

Lleighton is lovely, to still be playing as well, I remember him always as playing. Well done to him, he did have that grit look about him.
But Potato.... Awww, what on earth will I do at 3 am now? When's Nadal on? grin

Chubfuddler Sat 31-Aug-13 06:57:47

I fell asleep during Andy's fourth set. I jinx him anyway so it's probably just as well.

Mama1980 Sat 31-Aug-13 09:49:29

Didn't get to watch any tennis yesterday and I wake up this morning to find del potato is out! hmm I do love Hewitt though he just never gives up.
Potato is so pretty though......

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 11:22:39

Poor Potato. I eventually gave up and went to bed just after he went a break down in the last set. Fortunately Nadal is on quite early this evening.

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 11:32:49

I need an early night tonight, as I've promised to go swimming first thing tomorrow. I'm dreading next week- much as I will welcome the peace when the older 2 go back to school, getting up early kills me.

So, if Nadal can win in 3 easy sets, I'll be happy. Vamos!

Ferrer on early, too. grin.

VAMOS all round.

And Jack Sock! Just because he is Jack Sock grin

order of play

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 11:57:27

I was still half asleep when I checked the order of play earlier. I had a momentary worry about a possible scheduling clash between Nadal and Sock. Then I remembered I can't watch it and the refreshing screen has all the scores on it.

This is why I should not go to bed at 4am.

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 12:19:54

Clay grin

I'm trying to work out when the final is on- If it's in the middle of the night, there's no way I'll be able to 'watch' and be up fro the school run. Although, the final is usually on 'proper' telly, so maybe I could record it (if Nadal is playing, not that fussed otherwise, unless it's Ferrer).

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 12:27:08

Of course the good thing about the US open, is that there is play on the Sunday, so no days off. Although, I'm confused as to what 'day' it actually is!

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 17:50:50

Ferrer is looking good! vamos

Nadal will hopefully be on soon. VAMOS

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 18:13:20

Grrrr. The Ivanovic match has gone to a 3rd set. I have a totally irrational dislike of Ivanovic. I don't know what it is about her, but I have never warmed to her.

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 18:28:39

Bollocks- Ferrer dropped a set. Vamos!!

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 18:38:46

This Ivanovic match is taking forever. It's taking about an hour a set.

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 18:40:29

Ferrer's picked up in the 4th. He's 4-1 up.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 18:48:19

Ferrer doing ok. I have been sulking all day. Actually, I have felt sad, this is Potato's favourite tournament and he's out already, he looked so downhearted in his press conference sad. Better be careful what I write or I'll be accused of being over invested again!

Rafa better do well tonight or he will have me to answer to, never mind Uncle Tony! Just off to check on Lopez.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 18:49:54

Lopez won first set on tiebreak.

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 18:54:25

Ferrer is worrying me...

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 19:02:47

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 19:03:52

Ivanoic match finally finished.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 19:14:01

Nadal warming up! How do you pronounce the name of that Canadian bloke who was mean to El Pot?! Raonic I think it's spelt.

Totally off topic, but I have to share my outrage - was on the motorway earlier and the middle lane was closed due to an accident. Both of the other lanes were moving but slowly, and I saw one woman pull over onto the hard shoulder, open her window, stick her phone out and take a photo shock. I was so outraged I nearly pulled over myself to snatch the phone out of her rubbernecking little hand (if there is such a thing as a rubbernecking hand).

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 19:25:42

Nadal has broken in the third game.

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 19:26:49

I pronounce it Ray-on-itch, Farley , but I'm probably wrong. grin

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 19:27:52

Farley- that is disgusting behaviour on the motorway. Some people are strange.hmm

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 19:31:08

I'd say it the same way as Raahh. I think there's a whole load of commentators hoping that Trongcharoenchaikul doesn't make it from the juniors into the seniors.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 19:35:17

Thank you both. That name will certainly be beyond your commentator from last night Clay who couldn't distinguish between Potato and Isner!

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 19:35:38

Ferrer through, yay!

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 19:41:37

Dodig looks knackered already. Rafa looks fresh as a daisy.

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 19:42:07

Jack Sock's broken Tipsaravic in the first set.

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 19:59:33

Clay- you are very right about...erm....thingy grin

McEnroe has no bloody chance of ever getting it right!

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 20:04:59

I had to type that very carefully. I'm not doing it again. smile

First set to Nadal and Sock.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 20:17:05

This sky pass thing is more hassle than it's worth, although I'm very grateful I got to see Potato last night. It's just kicked me out saying I've had my 24 hours, and I bloody haven't! Going to ring them and summon up my anger from the rubbernecking woman and complain!

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 20:18:26

Cheese on toast

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 20:36:15

"Cheese on toast" was by my very mature (not) 15yr old ds. At least he didn't mention "poo", as he usually does.

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 20:50:23

I though you'd got the wrong thread. I was a bit confused.

tennis tennis tennis tennis

Two sets to Nadal. Sock looks like he just got thrashed in a tie break.

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 21:08:38

vamos Rafa!!

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 21:09:29

oh, poor Sock. But he was due to meet Nadal next, so it's for the best.

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 21:19:50

I think Rafa's pretty much got this won. Sock was going quite well till that tie break. Is having a bit of a 'mare in the third set now.

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 21:21:44

Yay- VAMOS Rafa!!

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 21:24:16

Ahh, I got confused. It's ferrerwho is due to meet Sock. Bit it's looking unlikely. Rafa will get a rematch with Isner, or Kohlshreiber might pull something out of the bag.

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 21:27:50

The real John Isner has just won the second set to level the score against kolschreiber. Could be either of those two going through.

FarleyD Sat 31-Aug-13 21:28:55

Bah, not only has my sky pass given up on me, now I can't refresh the scores on the us open site. Anyone else having trouble?

Since ds2 now knows my user name, I can either run the risk of him peppering MN with cheese/poo on toasts posts, or I can name change. If I do the latter, can anyone help me with a potato inspired name please?! All I've come up with so far is JuanPotatoTwo, which is a bit lame.

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 21:46:52

Do you normally have to refresh it or does it refresh itself. I'm using the slam tracker from the site and that seems to be working OK.

Raahh Sat 31-Aug-13 23:14:13

ooh, Kohlschreiber has beaten Isner. That will flummox the American commentary teamgrin

ClayDavis Sat 31-Aug-13 23:51:31

There's an awful lot of tall players on the tour at the moment. Commentary could get very confusing if they're going to mix them up on that basis.

Dan Evans is on now. That ATP rankings site shows just how well he's done to get this far. He's ranked 46 places behind the next lowest ranked player still left in the tournament.

Chubfuddler Sun 01-Sep-13 06:06:29

Didn't see any of dan Evans match but he took it to four sets so must have played pretty well.

siezethenight Sun 01-Sep-13 09:23:27

Didn't see any tennis last night. I was in bed at 7pm. I tell you - older mothers? Hats off to you as I do not have the energy for it all this time around. I am glad mine came along while I was young and broken nights sleeping or no sleep at all was no problem at all.

Anyhow tennis I will skip tonight as I have college starting tomorrow and need to be somewhat alert for day 1. I think there is a sports event we have to do as a bonding thing with the rest of the block so I clearly have to win that even if I cheat as that's just how it is...

I will be back on tennis - for absolute certain from Thursday night on which is coming towards end of tournament so I will catch the main games. I have got that right, right?

Keep the thread updated as here is where I am getting my info!

Raahh Sun 01-Sep-13 10:36:29

Shame about Evans- but it was a good run for him. I hope he can keep up the momentum. All to often we have players who get through a couple of rounds of a slam, believe the hype and sink like a stone. But Evans has been working on his attitude and work ethic, as much as his game. So it might be the start of good things.

I was at the swimming pool at 8.30. I am titedgrin

Raahh Sun 01-Sep-13 11:13:52
Chubfuddler Sun 01-Sep-13 16:06:02

Site crashed on me and gobbled a post

FarleyD Sun 01-Sep-13 17:02:57

Good luck for tomorrow Sieze, hope it goes well.

Would like to watch Djok play but not too bothered by any other of the matches today. Hewitt in action again later should be Potato

My two youngest go back to school this week and I have that horrid "end of holiday" feeling upon me today.

Raahh Sun 01-Sep-13 17:24:42

Farley my older two go back Tuesday- I'm more worried we will never wake upgrin

To be honest, dd1 is a bit fed up and ready to go back. We don't live close to her school friends, and most have been away all summer. Ds is ok, as a number of his mates live round here, and he spends all day on his bike, but he's older. They have had a couple of outings, courtesy of grandparents, but it's been another fairly dull summer for them. I hope we win the lottery before next yeargrin. Would be nice to at least buy an ice-cream without worrying.

But we made good use of the last day of free swimming at the pool this morning, even if getting up early killed megrin.

I should get an early night, as I'm not too fussed by today's matches- and hope Nadal is on early tomorrow. Don't think the school would be happy with 'sorry we're late on the first day, was up refreshing my pc screen during a tennis match' grin

Raahh Sun 01-Sep-13 17:36:08

Aww, Baghdatis is losing to Wawrinka . I like Marcus, but I like Stan too, so not too bad.

FarleyD Sun 01-Sep-13 17:44:40

Oh I don't know Raahh, I think it's a perfectly valid excuse! How old are your dc? Seems a not very friendly ploy to have free swimming early on a Sunday morning and I'm very impressed you made it - lots of brownie points for you!

These hols for us have flown by, it seems two minutes ago we were in those last days of term, and here we are about to go back again already.

My eldest ds left to go to uni last Sept and Dd just did her A levels in the summer but has deferred going to uni until Sept 2014. I missed my eldest dreadfully and will do again when he goes back, but when dd leaves it will be like losing my best friend (she is the only dd). Having my two eldest leaving home makes me feel both old and sad! Gosh, I really am in a melancholy mood, apologies folks!

I was trying to find out where Potato might play next but didn't get anywhere. Any of you know? I also spent far more time than I should have last night on the Men's Tennis Forums, dh says he's in danger of forgetting what I sound like (although I would have thought that would be a blessing for him!)

ClayDavis Sun 01-Sep-13 18:23:20

The first tournament I can find del Potato listed as a player for is the Shanghai Masters on 6th October. Not sure if he's playing as part of Argentina's Davis Cup team on 13th September. I don't think the team selection list for that is out yet.

FarleyD Sun 01-Sep-13 18:38:00

Thanks Clay, where did you find that out?

Raahh Sun 01-Sep-13 18:45:14

Farley -they are 10.5, 7 and nearly 3. The leisure centre does free swimming in the summer hols- to be fair, I would have gone later, but dh was working at 12, so we all had to go early (can't take all 3 on myown). I felt quite virtuous for 5 minutes.

I can't imagine them ever leaving home (well i imagine it a lot, but it's a long time offgrin).

Marcus is plotting a comeback!

I like hewitt, but it should have been Del Potato. sad

ClayDavis Sun 01-Sep-13 18:55:43

I used the calendar on the ATP site, then had to go to each tournament website to see which players were listed. There must be an easier way to do it.

FarleyD Sun 01-Sep-13 19:33:46

Thanks again Clay, does seem there should be an easier way. Unlike you, I didn't have the initiative to think of checking tournament websites!

Raahh, at the risk of sounding like one of your mother's boring friends (not that she has any I'm sure, but you know what I mean), the time really does come upon you quickly, esp once they hit their teens. My youngest is 9, and he is the spitting image in all respects of my eldest, who will be 20 in a couple of weeks, and seeing the 9yr old do/say things which the 20yr old did seemingly only yesterday reinforces to me how quickly the time went. I hope that last sentence wasn't a load of old [balls], and you kind of understood what I was trying to say!

FarleyD Sun 01-Sep-13 19:34:47

Oops, so carried away there I got my tennis wrong!

Raahh Sun 01-Sep-13 19:40:58

Farley- its true. when people talk about university, memories flood back- and then I realise I graduated 20 years agosad.

My mum was the age I am now, when I was half way through uni- so it's odd, me having such young kids. The time will flysad

Wawrinka won through- Murray taken to a tie break in his first set.

FarleyD Sun 01-Sep-13 19:46:47

Lleyton is two games to love up in the first set. Hmmph.

Chubfuddler Sun 01-Sep-13 20:37:12

Murray about to win in straight sets

FarleyD Sun 01-Sep-13 20:42:05

Andy seems to be speeding through ok.

Chubfuddler Sun 01-Sep-13 20:42:13

Oh no andy now seems to be starting to throw the third away

FarleyD Sun 01-Sep-13 20:42:44

Oh sorryb*Chub*, didn't refresh before posting.

Chubfuddler Sun 01-Sep-13 20:43:29

No he's sorting himself out now. M

One game to go.

Chubfuddler Sun 01-Sep-13 20:49:22

Ooh sloane Stephens and serena next. Please can they both lose?

Chubfuddler Sun 01-Sep-13 21:08:21

Ooh Hewitt come on you can do this.

Chubfuddler Sun 01-Sep-13 21:17:51

YES Hewitt wins 2nd set

FarleyD Sun 01-Sep-13 21:32:39

blush. I've just been caught out. Ds2 plonked himself down next to me before i could angle my screen away and said "why are you looking at pictures of Del Potro?". Dh gave me the look.

I don't like Hewitt, (never have, not just cos of what he did on Friday, honest) but you've got to hand it to him. He fights to the very end, and he's having a great run after all his injuries. He's also interesting to watch I suppose <grudging>.

Chubfuddler Sun 01-Sep-13 21:39:43

I think I am a mn tennis anomaly. Murray and Hewitt are my favourite players.

Not that much of an anomaly chub! I like them too!

FarleyD Sun 01-Sep-13 21:50:37

Good for us to share the love, no fighting then!

Raahh Sun 01-Sep-13 21:57:37

i like Hewitt's fighting spirit, and always wonder how he'd have done, had Federer not come along just as he was getting in his stride. And been injury free, of course.

But I've never been a Murray fan, and no amount of BBC pr will sway megrin

Chubfuddler Sun 01-Sep-13 22:05:18

Federer's extraordinary talent has truncated many a career - hewitt's more than anyone's I think. 20 years old and works number one. He was brilliant. I saw him at queens many years ago and the fight in him was amazing to watch.

Raahh Sun 01-Sep-13 22:13:36

I have never warmed to Federer, I think his gold initialed kit puts me off. I should like him, as he cites Edberg as his inspirationgrin But I love him for the fantastic matches his rivalry with Nadal has produced. He deserves to go out out on a high- I hate to see great players fade.

Chubfuddler Sun 01-Sep-13 22:16:06

I can't stand him but this week when I read about his comments that his recent dip have made him realise he doesn't just love winning, but really loves tennis I did think aw, maybe he's ok. Because I've never got a love of the game vibe from him. Love of winning and looking the diaper gent while doing it, definitely.

Chubfuddler Sun 01-Sep-13 22:29:50

Oh don't squander it now Lleyton

Chubfuddler Sun 01-Sep-13 22:35:52

Raahh Sun 01-Sep-13 22:36:14

I don't think Fed has anything other than the tour. He hasn't got the personality of a McEnroe or Becker to be a commentator. Playing the seniors is probably beneath him. It's a bit sad really.

Raahh Sun 01-Sep-13 22:37:14

(my pc crashed, took me a while to post that!)

Chubfuddler Sun 01-Sep-13 22:40:42

Well I'm 2 for 2 so far this evening but looks like sloane is going down....

FarleyD Mon 02-Sep-13 00:17:15

Djok on court now. I can't decide if I want him or Rafa to win.

siezethenight Mon 02-Sep-13 06:22:51

Well done to Andy tennis
I will have to get online this afternoon to catch up on the rest of the news.

Don;t now what happened to Hewitt...

Boris Rocks!

ClayDavis Mon 02-Sep-13 09:25:45

Good luck today Seize. Hope your first day goes well.

Raahh Mon 02-Sep-13 11:00:41

sieze- good luck today.

Hewitt is through.

I really, really need an early night. DD2 had me up most of the night, and the dcs (even dd1, who is usually up with the birds) slept late this morning. We will struggle in the morninggrin. So, no chance of 'watching' Nadal, as he's on at midnight. I just have to hope I wake up to a good result. Might see the Ferrer result, and possibly Fed.

FarleyD Mon 02-Sep-13 16:45:26

Glad Djok through. Hope you get your early night Raah. We're going out tonight so I'll prob be keeping an eye on the scores.

Raahh Mon 02-Sep-13 16:53:56

I'm hoping for a Djok/Nadal final. A Nadal/Ferrer final would have been better, but they are scheduled to meet in the semi finals, if I've worked that out properly. A Nadal/Federer final would have great- but they meet in the quarters.

Of course, they all have to get through the next matchesgrin.

I'm glad the top players are all still there in the second week(apart from Del Potato, of coursesad). It's nice for lower ranked players to beat the top flight ones of course, and makes a good story, but they so rarely back it up, that it makes the next rounds a bit dull.

Raahh Mon 02-Sep-13 16:54:12

Chubfuddler Mon 02-Sep-13 17:18:04

I think it's going to nadal/Murray. Murray to win. He's on a roll.

Raahh Mon 02-Sep-13 17:18:53

The Vinci match wrapped up nice and quickly. Ferrer up next- vamos

Chubfuddler Mon 02-Sep-13 17:20:37

Shows 4th round and you can track possible quarters and semis from there

Raahh Mon 02-Sep-13 17:20:42

Nadal is on a better roll, I think. He's won 2 hard court tournaments back to back, where Murray lost early on. Even Djokovic sees him as the one to beat.

Raahh Mon 02-Sep-13 17:22:25

Yes, Chub- that's the one I use. I find it easier to use the printable version than faff with looking at individual quarters, though. easily confused grin

it's shaping up to be a good last slam of the year, anyway.

Raahh Mon 02-Sep-13 17:27:07

oh bollocks- play suspendedsad

ClayDavis Mon 02-Sep-13 17:55:30

It's almost like it knows I get home from work at 5.20. tennis

Raahh Mon 02-Sep-13 20:38:19

still suspended sad Rubbish.

ClayDavis Mon 02-Sep-13 21:28:33

Might actually get an early night tonight. Play suspended and Mumsnet is being ridiculously slow. sad

ClayDavis Mon 02-Sep-13 22:14:59

Play is back on. Ferrer is playing.

Raahh Mon 02-Sep-13 22:30:54

yay! And noticed the revised schedule has cancelled the Ivanovic/Azarenka match, so Nadal should (unless it rains again) get to play.

Raahh Mon 02-Sep-13 22:31:41

But I really, really should be in bedgrin

FarleyD Mon 02-Sep-13 22:43:04
ClayDavis Mon 02-Sep-13 23:00:33

It's telling me that I'm not logged in and don't have permission to access that page. Will try and register and see what happens.

ClayDavis Mon 02-Sep-13 23:07:41

That's better. Can see it now. grin

FarleyD Mon 02-Sep-13 23:37:59

Here's one for Raahh (scroll down a bit!)

FarleyD Mon 02-Sep-13 23:41:33

Sorry but have to share this one. I'll stop then!

ClayDavis Tue 03-Sep-13 00:15:09

I took my eye off the tennis for an hour and its all gone wrong. Fed's about to go 2 sets down to Robredo and Ferrer has dropped the second set to Tipsaravic and is a break down in the third. Nadal just coming on now.

ClayDavis Tue 03-Sep-13 01:32:02

Fed's out and Nadal's lost the first set shock.

It's going to be like Wipeout Wednesday all over again if they're not careful.

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 05:42:29

Just been woken up by dh getting up for work.

Not that surprised at the fed result- Robredo has had some great results since coming back from injury. Tipsarevic is always a dangerous opponent, so I was relieved to see ferrer through,-and despite the close first set, it was business as usual for nadal- vamos !!

And I can't see any of the links- do I have to sign up?

( and I'm going to be half asleep on the school run) grin

siezethenight Tue 03-Sep-13 06:51:03

Good morning tennis ladies
Fed out then? I am sort of wondering why he didn't retire at the height of his game and go out the tennis genius that he was. I find it kind of sad to see him plodding along, his body getting perhaps a bit to strained to keep up with the younger ones. He is loosing a lot and I know he loves the game, he says so and is so passionate about it all so I understand why he is carrying on but it would be a huge shame for him to end up a clinger on and desperately trying. From the winner he once was.... What's that saying about leaving the room/party early? Or something like that? I don't recall. I bet he would make a great coach though, like Lendel for Murray sort of thing.

How did Rafa do?

I have sports day today - absolute yuk - I am far too old to leave my house in trainers and a top (Iron Maiden being the only T shirt I own that still actually fits me) and a pair of cut off gym bottoms. Okay for a gym but a sports day? You know, taking part and trying to actually win?? Hair messed up, makeup streaked off, possible first hot flush as I leg it down a field? Lots and lots of nimble youngsters overtaking me as I puff and pant my way to the line thinking, for the love of God, make it stop... Its torture. And today my boobs decide to begin to hurt, as in, period soon which means by lunchtime I will be grabbing them if I have to move faster than a snail, so they do not hurt as I move.

However, I have a lovely, dippy, male tutor. He smokes roll ups in the bunch of trees by the center and allowed me to sneak out of class yesterday to see to my son who he saw hanging about at my car as he was out having a rollie... Massively appreciated. When I finished, son was in car with door open, feet up on dash (which he got a clout for) and on his Ds as content as can be as he knew I was in building behind him and he only had to wait for me smile

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 10:31:40

Morning sieze . Hope your day goes well! Lovely story about your ds.

Nadal won in 4- first set went to a tie break, then 3 straightforward sets. He's yet to have his serve broken this tournament, apparently.

It's a difficult one with Federer- he was pretty much written off before last year's Wimbledon- then he won it, and reached the Olympic final. He hates any questions regarding retirement- and I suppose it's hard to know when to stop. The extreme is Borg- who retired at the grand old age of 25, and at an age at which most players these days are only just getting into their stride. I don't think it's his age, in Federer's case that is causing the problem. There are many players in their late 20's/30's now who are coming into their own. Ferrer is one, and Haas. Injuries are finally catching up with Fed, though.

Mentally is must be a huge pressure to be at the very top for a decade, and all the expectation that brings. Now he's hearing nothing but disappointed sighs every time he loses, and constant press speculation about retirement- it has to be frustrating. It's easy to see why he's digging his heels in, but no-one wants to see him fade away.

Ds and dd1 safely back at school. it's very quietgrin

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 10:37:29

And i finally got to see the pics-aww! Isn't he sweet? Love the dog.

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 10:38:38

All those pictures are reminding me of the massive poster I had of Edberg on my bedroom doorblush.

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 10:43:35

and finally

Hope Hewitt can continue, so knocking out Del Potato won't be for nothinggrinHe's probably got Djokovic next though...

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 13:06:05

I have just spent ages going through the list of forthcoming tournaments on the Menstennisforum to see who's playing where! Good to see Tsonga on the list for the Moselle Open- not a huge event, but good to get back into it. Plus it's on home turf. (well, an indoor hard courtgrin) Hope he doesn't withdraw.

FarleyD Tue 03-Sep-13 17:54:40

Hi all, dc back tomorrow, feeling jittery (me, not them!). Did your first school run of the year go smoothly raahh?

Sounds as if all is going well for you sieze, particularly like the sound of your tutor! It must be so reassuring for your ds knowing you're nearby. Why on earth are they making an old lady like you run?! I can call you old cos I'm pretty sure I'm the oldest of the lot of you!

My eldest ds came home today after ten days in Doncaster with his girlfriend. It was lovely to see him but he'll be going back to uni in a fortnight or so and I will get very upset. When he first left this time last year I cried for about a month. One day I was in sainsburys about to pick up some onions when it struck me that only ds1 liked onions and he wasn't here to eat them. I started crying and a very nice gent came and took me in hand (as it were)!

I'm a bit ambiguous about Roger - it would be so sad if his glory years were overlooked by his refusal to quit while he was ahead. On the other hand, if anyone has earned the right to keep playing tennis, then he surely has. And as long as he's doing it for the right reasons, which he says he is, then power to his elbow. The main problem I have with Roger is that he bears a marked resemblance to my oaf of a brother, but I suppose I can't really hold that against him!

FarleyD Tue 03-Sep-13 17:57:26

Oh, and did anyone have a chance to think of an alternative to my "JuanPotatoTwo" name change please?

FarleyD Tue 03-Sep-13 17:58:45

I reeally don't want Lleyton to beat Djok, we will be on opposite sides of the fence for that one Raahh!

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 18:08:12

I liked JuanPotatoTwo blush

Ds has come home buzzing after his first day in year 6. DD1 has come home from her first day in year 3, tired and unable to tell me what she did. Except their topic is chocolate grin and this will include a trip to Cadbury world. hmm.

I'm tiredgrin

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 18:12:06

Farley- I'm not sure where i stand on the Hewitt/Djoko match-up. I do like Hewitt, and have never been a Djoko fan . But I suppose I'm really looking at it from the side of 'which one is Nadal more likely to comfortably beat'grin

ClayDavis Tue 03-Sep-13 18:20:36

I'm not really a fan of Djok. I did used to quite like Hewitt so might come down on that side of the fence.

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 18:20:45

Youzhney has won the first set against Hewitt, reasonably quickly.

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 18:21:28

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 18:45:05

Oh come on lleyton.

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 18:59:45

Lleyton coming back for the second set. This has the potential to be a loooong match.

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 19:27:05

pmsl @ the patient asking Daniel to be a model. Bet he'd love to do it, really.

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 19:29:09

ooh- Al's sleuthing could be coming off after all.

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 19:36:03

Sorry- blush got my Doctor thread mixed up with my tennis oneblush

ClayDavis Tue 03-Sep-13 20:04:20

3rd set to Hewitt. Might not be s long after all.

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 20:07:43

2 sets to 1 to Lleyton.

<maybe no-one noticed the faux pas>

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 20:15:04

oooh- go Lleyton!

ClayDavis Tue 03-Sep-13 20:18:09

I thought I'd be polite and not mention it tennis.

ClayDavis Tue 03-Sep-13 20:19:25

That was supposed to be grin not tennis.

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 20:21:17

I wish I could see this match. C'mon lleyton.

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 20:22:49

Oh goodie vasos Alexander on five extra.

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 20:38:46

Oh fourth set slipping away from Hewitt. Come on lleyton don't fluff it now.

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 20:41:25

Oh no! Lleyton!!

FarleyD Tue 03-Sep-13 20:46:33

Just thought I'd share this with you - it is my fault, obviously, that ds2 has spots. According to him. According to him I expect I'm responsible for the state of the nation too. confused

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 20:51:18

Is is your fault Lleyton is fluffing it? grin

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 20:57:10

Whoever wins this is going to be slaughtered in their quarter. This is brutal.

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 21:04:34

Is Hewitt injured?

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 21:18:41

I can't watchsad I can only see the scores. He's doing ok in the 5th set, but do you think he's injured?sad

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 21:24:02

It was just some grazes from a slip

Final game hopefully

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 21:24:47

Listen on radio iplayer five extra. Better than nothing that's what I've got

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 21:24:50

That's ok then.

C'mon Lleyton!

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 21:26:06

Sorry- I meant it was ok about the graze, not about the radio thingy<x post>

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 21:27:37

15 all Hewitt serving it out (hopefully)

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 21:28:10

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 21:29:45

ClayDavis Tue 03-Sep-13 21:30:15

Not serving it out then. Come on Hewitt.

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 21:31:14

Oh god. Lleyton don't do this

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 21:38:50

Is this going to end in one of endless tie breaks?

FarleyD Tue 03-Sep-13 21:41:29

Lleyton having to work hard.

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 21:42:37

Masses of errors there. Poor lleyton.

ClayDavis Tue 03-Sep-13 21:48:05

Oh. He's lost.

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 21:48:39

Poor Hewitt. Am not happy

Raahh Tue 03-Sep-13 21:49:40

oh sad

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 21:52:24

Djok on now. Andy is in the graveyard shift. I shall be asleep.

FarleyD Tue 03-Sep-13 22:22:13

Djok seems to be fairly racing through.

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 22:36:19

Who do we think will win the berdych/wawrinka match?

Chubfuddler Tue 03-Sep-13 22:54:56

That didn't take djok long did it?

Chubfuddler Wed 04-Sep-13 06:09:42

So barring any significant upsets a djok semi awaits Andy. And if he can get through that, in all likelihood a nadal final...

Raahh Wed 04-Sep-13 09:40:21

Well,I nearly got an early night- but dd2 had other ideas. So, I was up checking scores at 2.30am<yawn> . Getting to breakfast lub was hard workgrin

Djoko, on that form, is looking very, very strong. He clearly means business now- and I don't envy Youzhny playing him next, especially after his long match.
I'm still feeling sad about Lleyton.sad
I'm actually glad Murray pulled it back, and a match up with Stan is a tricky to call one- if Stan is playing well, it could cause Murray problems, and be a good match. Sadly 'playing well Stan' hasn't materialised at the slams this year. He's definitely one that promised huge things, and hasn't quite yet delivered.

glad the Ferrer match is on at a reasonable time, I might get to 'see' some of it. grin

Raahh Wed 04-Sep-13 19:08:53

Well, just checking in whilst waiting for the dcs to finish karate- ferrer 4-1 down against gasquet when I looked. Not worried yet- ferrer is a master at comebacksgrin

ClayDavis Wed 04-Sep-13 19:34:57

At what point are you going to start worrying do you think? He's lost the first 6-3 and is now a break down in the second.

Raahh Wed 04-Sep-13 20:08:59

I'm worrying a bit now...

Mama1980 Wed 04-Sep-13 20:12:01

Maybe the start of a comeback do we think.....?

Raahh Wed 04-Sep-13 20:27:18

hope so!

ClayDavis Wed 04-Sep-13 20:46:30

Hopefully it is a comeback.

Raahh Wed 04-Sep-13 20:59:30

Gasquet had a massive match against Raonic- if Ferrer can do what he does best and not give up, Gasquet may fade.

I like Gasquet, and Nadal has never lost to him (if they meet in the next round), but I want Ferrer to win this.

ClayDavis Wed 04-Sep-13 21:09:39

I'm not really fussed about either of them to be honest, so will not really mind whoever wins.

Nadal is on at silly o'clock tomorrow morning so won't be staying up for that.

Raahh Wed 04-Sep-13 21:32:45

I'll probably see the progress of the Nadal match when either dh wakes me up at 4.30 for work <yawn>, or dd2 wakes up (which she often does at least once). Whichever comes firstgrin

Raahh Wed 04-Sep-13 21:34:07

(that's dh going to work, not me).

Whatever happens, I'm usually shattered by 'proper' wake up time.grin

FarleyD Wed 04-Sep-13 21:46:36

Evening all, proper hectic day here today, am nearly as tired as Ferrer and Gasquet must be! This seems like it would have been a good match to watch.

Keep forgetting to say that I assume you all know the public ballot for Wimbledon tickets is open now?

Raahh Wed 04-Sep-13 21:56:12

Noooo- looks like Ferrer is throwing it all awaysad

I'd love to be able to go back to Wimbledon. It's 20 years shock next year since I was able to go. Maybe one day.

Chubfuddler Wed 04-Sep-13 22:01:03

Ooh gasquet on the verge - do hope so.

Raahh Wed 04-Sep-13 22:10:02

Well done to Gasquet- at least Ferrer didn't totally roll over.

Chubfuddler Wed 04-Sep-13 22:12:11

Bravo gasquet.

Mind you nadal will destroy him.

Raahh Thu 05-Sep-13 06:53:03

Well, nadal certainly destroyed Robredo. Totally expected, but Robredo has enjoyed a good run, as he did at RG. And nadal still unbroken on serve, by the looks of that score line.

siezethenight Thu 05-Sep-13 08:10:18

Hurrah! No more college this week so its tennis all the way.... Just as its all getting so interesting...

I would like to point out the following as pride is a terrible thing: My daughter scored the highest marks in Media GCSE in whole of UK and has had a letter of congratulations from the exam board. They couldn't score her higher than an A* but she was only 3 marks off a 100% total. They are translating her work (its in Welsh) and using it across UK as an example to students as to how coursework and exam work has to be done.
Waah! She is a total swot - love her to bits. Her GCSE results were phenomenal but this is like, woah, really??
For my part? My class cheated in sports day to win overall. And also I got caught cheating in the English test we all have to do - I was helping another student along with her answers... Got shown the door! I passed though as did she so all is well!
Chalk and cheese my daughter and I... grin
tennis tonight!

Mama1980 Thu 05-Sep-13 08:29:55

Am hmm about ferrer but rafa looked amazing grin hopefully gasquet won't stand a chance and the likely djokovic/Murray semi will be exhausting so......
