Will it be a sweet ending for Louisa or will Leah's dreams be filler-filled?

Wannabestepfordwife Wed 17-Jul-13 14:24:29

Hahaha love the thread title!

I'm still undecided Leah's plan makes more sense but there's the moral dilemma. Luissa knows what she's on about but does lord sugar really want to go into business with someone who spends £3k a month on an Internet company to delete naked pics of them.

My heads says Leah.

SinisterBuggyMonth Wed 17-Jul-13 14:31:17

Tbh I cant stand the pair of them, so cant choose who to root for

Its like trying to decide if you want Sir Alan to get salmonella or botchilism

Will it be won, wabbit, won wabbit, won won won?

Allthingspretty Wed 17-Jul-13 14:53:41

I want Leah! Do not forget its on at eight tonight!

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 17-Jul-13 15:56:43

I think Leah is the better candidate with the better business plan but it doesn't sit right with me that such a clever woman and trained Dr. is going down the Cosmetic Surgery/make lots of money route.
I know there's nothing wrong with it, it's just me.

I think Leah has the edge, she has grown on me a bit but Luiza hasn't.

I kind of agree with LadyBeagleEyes, but if I was going to have that sort of work done I would want it to be by a highly skilled doctor.

I am backing Luisa, even though she is a very annoying wabbit. I can't see Lord Sugar choosing Leah.

It's not just you - it's me too. hmm

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 16:04:01

Do you think they realised that all the other candidates come back to help them with the final task? Because if I was Jason I wouldn't piss on Luisa if she was on fire.

Allthingspretty Wed 17-Jul-13 16:06:08

celticclan Wed 17-Jul-13 16:07:05

I'm not keen on either business plan to be honest. Leah is clearly capable and will make a success of her business but I'm not keen on the expansion of cosmetic procedures.

Luisa is in it for the fame and I don't trust her. I'm sure her business plan has potential but would you really want to invest £250k in a baking supplier?

It's a shame because I love the programme but the business plans are always a disappointment.

justpoppy Wed 17-Jul-13 16:22:06

If her twitter feed today is anything to go by Luisa is another Katie Hopkins in the making!

celticclan Wed 17-Jul-13 17:54:53

She is just awful beyond words. I really hope she doesn't win.

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 17-Jul-13 18:05:52

I've just looked at that Twitter feed.
Yes, that's Katie Hopkins out of a job.
She's going to be the new 'controversial' one on daytime telly, you mark my words.

Relaxedandhappyperson Wed 17-Jul-13 18:15:14

Leah is by far the more convincing "serious" business prospect, but I agree with everyone: is Lord Sugar really want to take the risk of the cosmetic surgery thing going tits up and exposing him? <sorry>

But £250k for buns in ovens? And with Luisa, who is horrible. I can't see him thinking much of that prospect either.

Wonder if he can get out of investing in either of them on the basis that neither of them is the place to risk his quarter-million. That would be a turn up for the books and Karren Brady would kill him.

waikikamookau Wed 17-Jul-13 18:27:04

i think it will be luisa, particularly with his supposed negative remarks about her, could be a double bluff.
not sure about the cosmetic backstreet business either

musicalmum40 Wed 17-Jul-13 18:28:24

They are both super-annoying and I think this series has been the worst for women cat-fighting in the boardroom. Tbh I've been embarrassed to be a woman at times watching their behaviour. Maybe I'm still mourning Neil, that would be Neil Clough (shock)

I think Leah.

NinaHeart Wed 17-Jul-13 18:33:17

I don't like either of them and think it is a shame that, barely out of medical school, Leah wants to use all her new-found knowledge in cosmetic procedures for the rich or deluded.
But I don't like the baking tins idea either.
Judgey? Me?

musicalmum40 Wed 17-Jul-13 18:39:10

PS don't forget Leah deserves to win because her hair is 'more voluminous than any other candidate' (!!) Anyone else notice how it just gets bigger and bigger?!!

Lizzabadger Wed 17-Jul-13 18:41:42

I don't think Luisa would have been posting semi-naked pictures of herself on the internet if she had won.

chocoluvva Wed 17-Jul-13 18:58:04

Leah said she needs "more money" last week. More than a junior doctor's wage? I wonder why? Is she planning to donate the profits to a worthy cause?

cavell Wed 17-Jul-13 19:24:09

I thought this year's crop of candidates was particularly weak.

Can't stand either of the two finalists - what a pair of narcissists. prefer the idea of the cupcake business so on that basis would prefer Luisa to win.

And am I the only one who thinks neither of them are half as physically attractive as they seem to imagine they are?

TheWysticManker Wed 17-Jul-13 19:25:18

leah has been a qualified doc for less than 2 years. Her training in cosmetic surgery is limited to a weekend 'course'. She is NOT a 'highly qualified' cosmetic surgeon and it is extremely misleading to suggest that she is

NurseRatchet Wed 17-Jul-13 19:26:35

Leah is a very very junior doctor.

Marking my place, but likely to be watching on catch up as ds is not looking anywhere near as tired as he should be at bedtime!

NurseRatchet Wed 17-Jul-13 19:28:19

Yes I did t like her snippy comeback to Alan about plastic surgeons. Plastic surgery is very different to face jabbing and boob jobs!

musicalmum40 Wed 17-Jul-13 19:28:20

That's interesting Nurse ratchet. Wonder if SirrrAlan has realised?! Still think the hair might do it!

Marking place for the bitching later

sassytheFIRST Wed 17-Jul-13 19:33:41

Two crappy and unsuitable businesses, two incredibly vacuous, self obsessed women. Sigh.

Will be watching later!

NurseRatchet Wed 17-Jul-13 19:35:11

His investment is a piddly amount to him surely anyway? He probably doesn't really care. All the fuss over her being a doctor concerns me as people watching may then trot off to someone who is also marketing themselves as a doctor and think they are safe, when as someone said above she will have done a short course like beauticians do. The level of doctor she is at do short 4 m

NurseRatchet Wed 17-Jul-13 19:37:01

Month rotations around Diffetent areas. She won't have a specialty yet, she must have interrupted her second foundation year anyway to do The Apprentice. Not that there is a job in the NHS that involves injecting crap into silly women's faces.

I know I'm going to be disappointed as I don't want either of them to win.
Why don't they dissect the business plans earlier in the process?

Back2Two Wed 17-Jul-13 19:38:43

I'm loathe to say it but i think that they are physically attractive ....but I'm literally amazed at their vanity. They are attractive not beautiful. They both put in an immense amount of effort to be as attractive as they are, and to me that makes them quite fake and affected. I would be amazed if my husband fancied them, they are a bit weird with their pouty lips and Barbie hair.

Is this the norm for women "nowadays" ......because, to me, their arrogance and vanity and their deluded belief that they are drop dead gorge is incredibly unattractive and crass.

RedPencils Wed 17-Jul-13 19:39:42

I can't watch with you lot tonight because I have to go pick DS from cubs. Why change the time, BBC, why?

Think Luisa will win, Leah is far more credible but cosmetic surgery is a bit too risky for him.

oreoaddict Wed 17-Jul-13 19:51:35

Can't stand either of them. I used to hate Luisa, so I can't believe I'm saying I'd prefer her to win! Prefer cupcakes to botox grin

Definitely not the norm for women "nowadays", even in business/finance/entrepreneurs. The barbie image doesn't do them any favours.

I don't like either of them.

KnittedWaffle Wed 17-Jul-13 19:56:07

I'm not keen on either TBH.

Just caught sight of luisa's twitterfeed and had to navigate away from it as she is so ignorant and stupid.
Leah says she's 23 so she must be a very, very junior doctor. It's a shame she wants to go straight into the vacuous world of cosmetic procedures when she's barely out of medical training.
Perhaps they could do a joint venture: luisa makes people fat and spotty by filling them full of cakes then Leah sucks out the fat and irons out the skin imperfections. hmm

Of the two, Leah I suppose.

sassytheFIRST Wed 17-Jul-13 19:57:19

Changed time? When?

thefuturesnotourstosee Wed 17-Jul-13 19:58:25

Wrinkles or cup cakes what a rotten choice. Ethically I think he should go with cupcakes but I can't stand Luisa.

On the other hand if Leah wins maybe she'll start with his wrinkles and use him in their advertising?

I've put the children to bed 15 minutes early so I can watch blush Very irritating of BBC to change the time.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:01:32

Oh god her twitter feed. We need her on here for a live webchat.

No not really.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:02:17

It's started! Oh FFS

Allthingspretty Wed 17-Jul-13 20:02:20

Ooh its now on!

thefuturesnotourstosee Wed 17-Jul-13 20:04:14

Wrinkles or cup cakes what a rotten choice. Ethically I think he should go with cupcakes but I can't stand Luisa.

On the other hand if Leah wins maybe she'll start with his wrinkles and use him in their advertising?

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 20:04:24

Leah will win as her business has the greater profit potential even if not particularly ethical.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:05:37

Does Luisa ever wash her hair?

Back2Two Wed 17-Jul-13 20:06:36

Aaa argh. Luisa's VOICE makes me stabby.

Allthingspretty Wed 17-Jul-13 20:07:07

I assume the hiring and firing bit will be live?

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:07:13

Evening all!

I reckon it will be Leah, on the basis that she has a clear business plan.

Passthesaltdear Wed 17-Jul-13 20:07:21

I don't know if anyone else saw them both being interviewed on This Morning, but I think that they slipped up slightly and it made me think that they'd given away who won. Did anyone else see it?

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 20:07:44

It's never live. This was filmed ages ago.

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:07:56

How do they divvy up the divvies?

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:08:10

I love Karen's coat

I bet she was talking about Jason.

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:09:01

Ha! Luisa's chickens have come home to roost.

Allthingspretty Wed 17-Jul-13 20:09:12

They have done the hired and fired live before

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:09:14

Ooh is she struggling?

Passthesaltdear Wed 17-Jul-13 20:09:30

Oh god Luisa drives me crazy!!

Arfing at Wabbit choosing numpties. Hurrah, we get to use all the good nicknames again.
Apparently Jordan doesn't turn up. Do we think his leetle arms are still trying to reach the door handle?

Utterly baffling thread title btw grin

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:10:39

Leah drives me mental with her pornie look and lack of actual personality.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:10:52

Ha myles wasn't taking Luisa's calls

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 20:10:53

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:11:35

Count has perked up at the idea of an eyebrow lift

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 20:11:45

From the interview I saw earlier in the week, I don't think they know yet. I got the impression that bit was going to be live.

Back2Two Wed 17-Jul-13 20:12:07

I can see all the little attachment bits on luisa's hair extensions ..yucky

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:12:13

Uzma looks terrible here, she looked one hundred times better after her You've Been Fired makeover.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:12:28

Fran's hair looks nice

How have they not thought of names before? Surely if you've been planning a business forever, you've doodled a few names.

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 20:13:08

Uzma looks like a bloke in drag.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:13:08

They don't already have names for these businesses?

How is that possible.

Leah's arms waggle a funny way when she walks ( but I have to support her cis she went to my mums old school)

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:13:33

Hello, hello, hello

I'm late getting the ipad but I'm here.

I'm finding it hard to care though

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:13:44

Myles looks hot

I fear my contributions are going to be v v superficial

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 20:14:05

Dunno Chub, really dunno.

I always pictured PP as much older

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 17-Jul-13 20:14:17

What is Lea calling her business?
Skins? Nicks?

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:15:22

Jason and his numbers

SKIN backwards sounds like a threatening letter from a particularly simplistic serial killer

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:15:40

NIKS = knickers

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:15:52

What's this Nik's malarkey??

Niks also sounds a bit like they're likely to cut you
Which I suppose they might.

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 17-Jul-13 20:16:44

Nicks are what happen when you lose control of the scalpel.

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 20:16:48

Kniks/Skins sounds like a skater brand

Hi Mary :0)

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:16:56

I have an allergy to letters backwards in brand names. Looks, er, crap.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:17:37

And is not medical hmm

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:17:56

So is it called Niks or Skin?

I'm confused!

Allthingspretty Wed 17-Jul-13 20:18:09

Nicks is the brand of trainer boot I had at school.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:18:15

How how how do they not already have a clear vision of the brand name and design?

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 20:18:21

'Niks' the perfect name for a cosmetic surgery company.

It makes me think of surgery thats gone wrong because the scalpel has slipped and massacred someones face by niking their skin where it shouldn't.

Back2Two Wed 17-Jul-13 20:18:38

She's lost it on the feckin Nicks thing.

What on earth?

Wabbit is SO rude. SO rude.

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:19:00

All their worst qualities are coming to the fore now. Déjà vu.

How adorable is Jason! Can we clone him?

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:19:23

NIKS is definitely a lingerie company

Dd says no guy will buy a cupcake unless its for a g/f so may as well go pink

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:19:25

She's obviously not worried about getting confused with the Sk:n clinics by whom she has been 'inspired'.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:19:39

Luisa not being very nice to web designer.

argh phonecall.

What have I missed?

She's forgotten the golden rule of cosmetic surgery firms, which is to pretend you come from Harley Street or Knightsbridge.

Still, could be worse. Could be Nu-U or similar.

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:20:20

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 20:20:41

He is sweet isn't he Mel - but he'd also be bloody infuriating grin

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:20:49

Lots of delusion olivia. Spadefuls.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:21:00

I thought that Chub

I mean norniron at least has a name. Luisa looked as though she has never thought about it

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:21:27

Leah has a drippy handshake. I can't stand a drippy handshake.

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 20:21:27

When is the count going to dress up in a silly costume....

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 20:21:40

I love the look of horror on that boy's face when Luisa said she is going to pretend to be his mum grin

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:21:41

Is that her daughter?

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:21:45

Twigs n pebbly shite!

Bored already.

Back2Two Wed 17-Jul-13 20:22:13

SO much HAIR on these women.

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 20:22:15

Olivia - both creating their own brand - website etc etc

Chosen own teams - well, got who they go to first.

Luissa being rude as usual.

Leah ignoring advice as usual.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:22:25

Jaysus those two are an ad for NOT wearing makeup or having cosmetic treatment.

Two attractive women overdoing it and looking haggish

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:22:26

Oh dear. Not much delegating going on.

Thanks chipping.
Who got first pick of teams?

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:23:27

Nick appears to have overlooked how rude Luisa was to the graphic designers.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:24:00

I think Leah did better olivia

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:24:06

They both had a phone and the numbers and had to get to people quick as they could.

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 20:24:09

I think they both got equal chance for teams and it was whomever got through first.

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 20:24:15

They were both given the phone numbers of all the available candidates.

Luissa didn't do very well.

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 17-Jul-13 20:24:32

Hi Olivia.
Put your feet up.
<get's Olivia cushions and a comfy footstool>

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:24:53

Oh dear.

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:24:58

Highly trained doctors? I thought it was going to be ex-hairdressers under Leah's supervision?

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 20:24:58

Karren looks tired. Maybe Leah could give her a freebie!

PastaBeeandCheese Wed 17-Jul-13 20:25:03

Aren't they rude..... Not a please amongst the pair of them.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:25:35

Market research feedback

"I'll let myles explain"

Good idea.

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:25:37

Her look does not say 'clinical director'.

Bring back Ruth Badger.

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 20:25:45

How many of you would trust Leah to be your doctor?

morefalafel Wed 17-Jul-13 20:25:50

Leah is completely missing the moral aspect... as a doctor, when presented with someone saying 'my face is too wrinkly, I am very unhappy' surely she should say 'No. Your face is a normal face. Would you like to talk to someone who can help you with your unhappy thoughts and feelings about your appearance.'

Not, 'Yes love. Your face IS too wrinkly. I can give you xxx procedure which will make me lots of luvverly cash'

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:27:15

Why hasn't she tied back her hair and put on a white coat? It's terrifying how she smiled at that woman before lunging at her with a syringe.

Oh zee doesn't like Leah. What a surprise.

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 20:27:15

Leah looks much better without a ton of makeup.

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:27:34

I'd feel more comfortable with Leah as a doctor if she tucked that hair under a cap and got rid of the unhygienic fake nails.

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 17-Jul-13 20:27:39

Mind you, I don't think I would fancy Leah as a doctor treating me on a ward.
She's no empathy.

PastaBeeandCheese Wed 17-Jul-13 20:27:50

Not I redtooth. Plus sometimes I look like shit when I'm sick and need a dr. I fear she'd judge me and send me to Niks for not blow drying my hair.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:28:24

Exactly falafel

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 20:28:28

Mind you - at 24 that should be the case!

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:28:56

I see Luisa has taken on board the gender-neutral branding advice then...

blueemerald Wed 17-Jul-13 20:29:32

What does N. I. K. S. stand for? innocent face

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 20:29:44

What is she a medical doctor trained in? At 24, would she really have cosmetic surgery as a speciality??

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:29:44

Urgh- cake making next to dusty skirting boards? Yuck.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:29:52

Didn't I see on last weeks sneaky peek that Luisa was crying afterwards?
Loving nick's fail to prepare = prepare to fail?

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:30:34

She's keen to express the warmth of her personality? Good look with that!

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:30:43

No, Red. She's been on a self-funded short course, which anyone can go on.

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:31:19

Luisa's accent is quite irritating at times, she kids of drones and drawls a bit too much.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:31:38

Yes she was

On my notice board during my a levels I pinned up a big sign saying Proper Preparation and Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

I may have been a bit of an arse.

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 20:31:38

OOOOO Nerves!

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:31:40

Warmth? <shivers>

Back2Two Wed 17-Jul-13 20:31:51

Did anyone used to watch Kenny Everett when his boobs got bigger on every scene?

Leah's hair is like that. It's got a life of it's own.

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 20:31:55

Presentation is a bit pants.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:32:09

Oh god don't be excited

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:32:46

What would a shop owner want with a baking kit for an 11 year old child? Or is she supplying everything?

At 24 you're barely starting our training as a doctor.

oo, questions from the audience.
It's like Question Time. Or Passing Over with that tv medium man. Do you think Neckbeard's dead dad will have a question?

PastaBeeandCheese Wed 17-Jul-13 20:33:20

'I do believe these are realistic figures'. Thanks for confirming that. What a relief.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:33:32

I like her dress

blueemerald Wed 17-Jul-13 20:33:42

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 20:33:58

Isn't it pretty standard to do a five year forecast? confused

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:34:03

Sue you are mean

That's it? Two crappy questions and some simpering?
GCSE Meedja students have to do more <sniffs>

smellsofsick Wed 17-Jul-13 20:34:12

I still don't quite get who she's aiming her products at. Or have I missed something?

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 20:34:18

Aww bless

But I've heard better speeches

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:34:31

Oh dear, numbers aren't her strong point

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:35:09

Turnover is irrelevant.

Oh bless it wasn't that bad. I've seen much much much worse presentations.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:35:26

Everyone and anyone, smells

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 20:35:27

If I were Luisa I would have done pink, cream and turquoise colouring to broaden its appeal.

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:35:44

Leah's cv says she "trained in Harley Street", which means some quack with an address thete took her money for a two day course. Harley Street is not a medical school.

Enya! And Fakey Stella in her keks, with a RIBBON!

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:36:05

So does n.i.k.s stand for something? Still a really shit name.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:36:14

What is Francesca doing?

smellsofsick Wed 17-Jul-13 20:36:23

Aaah, all becomes clear.

Oooooo ribbon dancing

I can't believe I am willing Luisa on.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:36:26

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 20:36:35

See this is the thing for me. Looking for any potential cosmetic surgery, the first questions I'd ask would be whats your experience and would I trust you as my doctor...

And Leah fails miserably on both counts there.

Then to call herself NIKS...

Just no. Its all wrong.

And thinking about wholesale cake making; how many wholesale cake makers will actually be one/two person businesses? So although it seems to be aimed at the home market and thats what she's been hammered for, but actually it would work perfectly for such small businesses...

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:36:43

Someone is going to ask her what is stands for

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 20:36:55

If she trains for 4 months that means she can only open 3 clinics a year. That doesn't make any sense.

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:36:56

I think Leah herself might want to relax with the Botox.

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:37:02

So it is going to be ex-hairdressers under her tutelage.

Allthingspretty Wed 17-Jul-13 20:37:16

Can't fault Leahs preaentation or video

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:37:22

Northern Ireland Kosmetic Surgery

So no real doctors then?

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:37:27

Four months training?
Well that's alright then. I'm in <proffers forehead>

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:38:23

No applause for the presentation

Ooh dear

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:38:27

eeeeeeeek she was a bit snippy with that woman!

TheWysticManker Wed 17-Jul-13 20:38:31

I hate Leah. Shes a fake and dishonest.

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 20:38:34

Leah has the more professional presentation

Liked the dance at the beginning

Do you need to specialise as a plastic surgeon if your just providing botox peels and injections??

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:38:40

Excellent non doctors then?

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:38:59

She smiles in the same way that Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory smiles, with pain and difficulty.

Allthingspretty Wed 17-Jul-13 20:39:02

Excellenr response to queations from Leah

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:39:20

Oh ok there is some credibility in that.

smellsofsick Wed 17-Jul-13 20:39:43

I would have preferred a bit of horsey dancing at the beginning but her presentation was stronger.

Passthesaltdear Wed 17-Jul-13 20:40:55

Both Leah and Wabbit do this thing with their eye, where they keep closing it. I'm sitting here practicing it myself now

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:40:56

Is that it?

Not much effort for a quarter of a million

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:41:45

They both look dead behind the eyes frankly, then when they are trying to get someone on side they do this massive fake wide eyes smile. Really quite sinister.

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:41:57

It seemed a bit lack lustre for the end task.

HandMini Wed 17-Jul-13 20:42:19

Leah's presentation definitely stronger.

Could Luisa tell us any more times how PASSIONATE she is about her business. Alright, alright, we get it, you're full of PASSION for fondant icings and sprinkles.

HandMini Wed 17-Jul-13 20:43:01

They both look dead behind the eyes frankly, then when they are trying to get someone on side they do this massive fake wide eyes smile. Really quite sinister.. Yes yes yes

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:44:00

Louisa's 3 day delivery would bother me

If I want to Akers I want to do it now. And retail needs quick delivery

HandMini Wed 17-Jul-13 20:44:10

Natalie backtracks hugely on what a bitch Luisa has been throughout.

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:44:35

Did four people come across Luisa during the process? Blimey, that's more than I thought.

HandMini Wed 17-Jul-13 20:44:46

The dance was cringetastic

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:44:52

Is Natalie angling for a job?

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:45:02

Actually, I think Louisa cares about the business.

Leah cares only about the money

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 20:45:18

Oh dear... can't want til "your hired" part of the show when they replay Luisa saying she's got all the shit people and they cut to her teams faces...

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:45:43

Akers? Bake

HandMini Wed 17-Jul-13 20:46:00

Well, isn't that what Sir Alan wants?

hermioneweasley Wed 17-Jul-13 20:46:27

I can't BEAR Louisa. Her voice is like nails on a blackboard.

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:46:33

Leah has zero sense of humour, Luisa is a total princess but at least she has spirit.

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 20:46:49

Me too Red, we were just feeling sorry for Jason thinking he was actually 'chosen'.

HandMini Wed 17-Jul-13 20:46:50

Leah's eyebrows are so black.

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 20:47:04

I agree Maryz.

If your in the middle of making cupcakes and you realise you don't have the cases you want them now not in 3 days time

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 20:47:13

Leah is a robot.

Looks like Surralun will be selling pink Wabbit sprinkles so.

hermioneweasley Wed 17-Jul-13 20:47:20

RedToothBrush - that will be hilarious! I think I'd go it alone rather than use Z.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:47:21

Myles is really helping leah

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:47:36

Luisa's full of spunk alright.

Too much?

<gets coat>

Poor Jason

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:47:49

Oh dear. Leah not going down well

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:47:58

Myles has been botoxed

AcrylicPlexiglass Wed 17-Jul-13 20:48:31

I hate Leah for some reason.

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:48:33

I cannot believe that Luisa went out with little Jordan!

hermioneweasley Wed 17-Jul-13 20:48:48

Louisa's plan has no substance. Her competitors arwn't stupid - she hasn't explained HOW she will manage her stock and dispatch to have availability and delivery that the others don't.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:49:01

Oh dear. Leah is talking her way out of winning this.

HandMini Wed 17-Jul-13 20:49:20

How do they manage to keep the result a secret? Surely they filmed all this ages ago....

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:49:21

Luisa probably went down better there, Chub, I agree.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:49:29

That is a very good point hermione.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:50:46

Karen not keen on Luisa.

scottishmummy Wed 17-Jul-13 20:51:08

Leah is intractable, doesn't take on feedback
Louisa stronger candidate

hermioneweasley Wed 17-Jul-13 20:51:10

Yes, disagreeing with all the industry experts isn't the way forward! It takes a special self confidence to say "I'm right and everyone else is wrong"

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:51:18

I'm sitting here looking at photos of 17 year old dd and her friends and feeling sad that in 5 years' time many of them will be going to companies like Leah's sad

Young women just don't know how beautiful they are

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:51:39

Yes, Hermione- presumably all the existing wholesalers don't set out to be shit, but encounter logistical problems. I'm not sure how Luisa will be any different.

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:52:04

Where does one buy pink frosted lip gloss like Leah's? 1986?

Arfing at Luisa going down better, Boff

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:52:19

I don't understand why no one has asked her that.

Allthingspretty Wed 17-Jul-13 20:52:20

MN down MN down

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:52:44

Put the plug back in Olivia.

hermioneweasley Wed 17-Jul-13 20:53:13

With commercial insights like that, I could be the next Apprentice, but I'm not taking a pay cut to work for Alan bloody Sugar! grin

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:53:13

If Leah's is going to be worth so much, why is she selling 50% to siralun for 250,000

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:53:31

Neither of them listen, to be fair.

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 20:53:31

Luisa's three businesses seem a bit of a red herring. L'Sugar will use them as an excuse for Leah to win.

AcrylicPlexiglass Wed 17-Jul-13 20:53:40

No humour
No empathy
Nurse Ratchett type
She will be a shit doctor (unless she is a medical genius who cures people of hideous diseases without having to speak to them).

hermioneweasley Wed 17-Jul-13 20:54:03

Arf at squoosh

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:54:06

For the start up maryz.

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 20:54:24

I just feel that Sir Alan will go for Luisa because she's more experienced both in business skills and in her field.

newbiefrugalgal Wed 17-Jul-13 20:54:48

Waffling sir A

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:55:22

Actually Acrylic, you are right. I hope Leah wins so no ill patient will ever have to depend on her

hermioneweasley Wed 17-Jul-13 20:55:22

Ooo, Leah has just played the margin card!

If he goes for Leah it will mean that the NHS will be well rid of her.

scottishmummy Wed 17-Jul-13 20:55:25

I can imagine one would get that ghastly lipgloss at Estée Lauder counter
Granny make up

smellsofsick Wed 17-Jul-13 20:55:27

Good point about the 50%...

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:55:56

That's what professional indemnity insurance is for.

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 20:56:00

I'm not sure Nick likes Leah.

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:56:01

I think somebody must have farted then.

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 20:56:12

Final bets being called

newbiefrugalgal Wed 17-Jul-13 20:56:18

I'm guessing Louisa

I think Luisa

hermioneweasley Wed 17-Jul-13 20:56:30

Good point Maryz. Can you imagine being wheeled into a and e and being confronted with a blow up doll? I'd be getting off the gurney and saying "actually, it's not so bad"

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:56:38

Fair enough chub, but would a bank not do it?

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:56:41

'Leah, you're an expert in this field'.

Er, no she isn't!

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:56:42

smellsofsick Wed 17-Jul-13 20:56:43

£20 on Leah

WipsGlitter Wed 17-Jul-13 20:56:43

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 20:56:45

I think because of Nick I'm going to change my vote for Luisa.

scottishmummy Wed 17-Jul-13 20:56:48

Margins on medical cosmetic procedures will be high, but potentially litigious

scottishmummy Wed 17-Jul-13 20:57:09

I think leah

Allthingspretty Wed 17-Jul-13 20:57:13

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:57:31

blueemerald Wed 17-Jul-13 20:57:31

How can leah be an industry expert at the grand age of 24??

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:57:42

smellsofsick Wed 17-Jul-13 20:57:48

Ooo change mind, change mind

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 20:57:57

hermioneweasley Wed 17-Jul-13 20:57:58

Leah looks like she's going to cry

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 20:58:07

Gosh Leah!

newbiefrugalgal Wed 17-Jul-13 20:58:07

Wish he said no one

scottishmummy Wed 17-Jul-13 20:58:08

Get on with it

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:58:10

oh bum.

blueemerald Wed 17-Jul-13 20:58:20

Woo!! Justice for Jason.

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:58:22

OOOH, I wasn't really expecting that!

Allthingspretty Wed 17-Jul-13 20:58:26

smellsofsick Wed 17-Jul-13 20:58:26

Oh pisswizards

scottishmummy Wed 17-Jul-13 20:58:27

Yay leah

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:58:28

Get on with it sugar

hermioneweasley Wed 17-Jul-13 20:58:28

How can she be a "fully qualified medical doctor" at the age of 24?

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:58:31

I fucking knew it

Money, money, money

hermioneweasley Wed 17-Jul-13 20:58:58

I love the emphasis on medical doctor, in case we thought she was a doctor of hair or lipgloss,

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 20:59:00

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:59:08

Luisa fucked it up by proving herself too difficult to work with then.

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 20:59:22

I can't believe it either Leah.

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 20:59:46

Has Leah's lip filler worn off in the taxi?

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 20:59:48

I've just told dd that if she gets lip plumping and Botox at 24 I will disown her

What a fucking waste of money training her. angry

LadyBeagleEyes Wed 17-Jul-13 20:59:55

Not happy with that.

Yeaoh! Gwan ye girl ye!

mousebacon Wed 17-Jul-13 21:00:25

No way!!

olidusUrsus Wed 17-Jul-13 21:01:09

Knew it. Luisa got fuck all air time in comparison.

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 21:01:10

They were an odd couple of finalists really.

blueemerald Wed 17-Jul-13 21:01:18

That's a hairdo.

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 21:01:20

I think Luisa forgot to do her hair tonight.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:01:23

Creator of moshi monsters? So now I know who is responsible for ds's obsession.

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 21:01:35

Do you think Leah would be able to make it so I had Luisa's boobs in that dress???

Cremolafoam Wed 17-Jul-13 21:01:41

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:01:44

Her hair looks so much better up.

CajaDeLaMemoria Wed 17-Jul-13 21:02:32

Did anyone else read the times article on them today?

It totally gave that away.

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 21:03:08

MaryZ - my god-daughter is here with me, she's 23, she barely wears makeup let alone thinks about this kind of crap... so there's hope!

scottishmummy Wed 17-Jul-13 21:03:30

Completely possible to qualify with MBChB and be 24.certainly in Scotland
Where did Leah train

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 21:03:54

Oh God, Lorraine's here!

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:03:55

I don't think Leah is pitching at 24 year olds is she?

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 21:04:08

The counts eyebrows are almost normal tonight. As I suspected, it was totally attention seeking.

olidusUrsus Wed 17-Jul-13 21:05:17

UEA Scottish. Norfolk. She's done her medical degree and think she's an F1/F2, very much doubt she's part of any physicians college yet.

It may be possible to qualify as a doctor, but it hardly makes you an expert does it?

at 24

WetAugust Wed 17-Jul-13 21:05:41

Pretty disgusted that Suralan appeared to have been taken in by the Barbie Doll.

This has been the most disappointing series so far.

Barbie female and weak male candidates.

Not even a good boardroom battle to relive the boredom.

Shame that a @fully qualified doctor' thinks it's acceptable to fritter away their training on this sort of crap

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:05:53

250,000 isn't enough to start up a manufacturing business.

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 21:06:15

Leah trained in England - UEA and is currently working in A&E in Newham, London where no one apparently recognises her (according to the Evening Standard - London evening paper).

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:06:57

I don't think she knows who Donald trump is.

WetAugust Wed 17-Jul-13 21:07:25

Relieve (I can spell)

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 21:08:04

Come on. We want the clip about choosing the team... don't wimp out Dara!

AcrylicPlexiglass Wed 17-Jul-13 21:08:14

Lord Botox

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 21:08:28

Karren looks weird with her new teeth.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:08:29

Here we go

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:09:02

Leah has put on more and more make up through this.

CajaDeLaMemoria Wed 17-Jul-13 21:09:09

My DP has just pointed out how phallic shaped the top of Luisa's dress is, and now I can't stop laughing at him. It's a bizarre upside down shape.

Also that guy is doing a rubbish job of not looking downhher top.

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 21:10:27

Alan isn't going to be a very good ad for his new business is he???

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 21:10:29

Yep, Karren's new teeth are quite startling! What was wrong with the old ones??

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 21:10:55

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:11:08

I don't think Jason would work with you

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:11:27

Er yes you did

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 21:11:52

Jason was useless though.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:12:59

He was but he's so sweet

And he's right courage does come in many forms

yournotfat Wed 17-Jul-13 21:13:10

Lorraine looks awful, what has she done? She looks so old.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:13:23

He may have been useless but at least he's nice.

I'm glad she has apologised

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 21:13:27

Haha Caja. The line of her cleavage really doesn't help.

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 21:13:43

Luisa (or to give her her real name Louisa) is coming across very well.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:14:14

Have I mentioned how much I love Dara?

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:14:16

Oh bless that she said sorry and her mum told her off

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 21:14:38

The cleavage line gives a nice urethra detailing!

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 21:14:50

I loved Jason. He seemed like the loveliest of the bunch.

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 21:14:56

I love Dara too!

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:15:13

I said this. You don't have to be a nasty ball buster to succeed

scottishmummy Wed 17-Jul-13 21:15:31

Medical training is arduous and nhs is hierarchical career
If its not for leah she might as well bale out if heart not in it
Clearly her interest is in cosmetic procedures

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:16:05

You know I'm warming to Louisa. I still hate Leah and I don't think I'll change

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:16:58

No sm, Leah's interest is in money

Nice apology (I am two minutes behind - only just realised...)

amigababy Wed 17-Jul-13 21:17:49

Jason for TV, go Jason!

olidusUrsus Wed 17-Jul-13 21:17:53

Yy Maryz. Hippocratic oath my arse.

mttum Wed 17-Jul-13 21:18:12

Yawn, have I missed anything? Best candidate isn't even in it.

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 21:18:16

Yah with a face like that, you can see shes passionate and believes in cosmetic procedures.

However that would also be another reason I wouldn't use that clinic... not a good advert if you look like you've potentially had tonnes of work done!

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 21:18:18

Why do audience members stare at themselves in the ceiling monitors??

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:18:24

So am I laura.

In business I think being interested in money is probably quite a good thing maryz

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 21:18:43

Lorraine looks a bit tired and old probably because Luisa must have got her make up done first and they'd run out by the time they got to Lorraine.

scottishmummy Wed 17-Jul-13 21:20:27

Woah, leah like anyone else who's a graduate can chose her own path
Many professional degrees have high attrition, certainly teaching does
If leah knows her interest is elsewhere why slog it out f1 etc?

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:20:37

Karen has been botoxed. And teethed. No wonder she likes Leah.

I loathed Luisa most of the the way through but changed my mind. She has a lot of strength.
Leah has no redeeming features. I dislike her and her motives.

Karen might be hoping for a discount.

scottishmummy Wed 17-Jul-13 21:21:47

Karren does look different

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:22:09

Alex has changed his hair that's why his eyebrows look less severe. It looks better like that.

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 21:22:12

YY count dracula's eyebrows seem more normal tonight

mttum Wed 17-Jul-13 21:23:29

Don't get me started on Karen! If Nick had said last week how pleased he was that Sugar had chosen two men for the final there would have been an outcry (quite rightly). Sugar should fire her.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:23:35

Don't sit in front of Jordan. Or next to him.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:23:51

Jordan was such good comedy value.

How did we miss him?

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:24:07

He's not seeing the funny side is he

YY to better non-Dracula hair. Eyebrows look almost normal.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:24:43

Bollocks. Bright my arse

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 21:25:00

I still miss Margaret.

WhirlyByrd Wed 17-Jul-13 21:26:12

OMG Louisa is wearing the MN scarf. I had her pegged as a nethun

olidusUrsus Wed 17-Jul-13 21:26:35

Me too sad I love Magga.

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 21:26:40

Who's the blonde sat next to Jordan?

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:27:08

I don't really want to watch this

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 21:27:16

Bloody Hell.

What IS she wearing?!

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 21:27:25

Goodness that dress is.......is.................is........is....

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 21:27:39

She doesn't get Dara's jokes...

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 21:27:50

Leah has had so much botox she is struggling to smile or it least her smile doesn't meet her eyes.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:28:00

I hate that frosty lipstick

And I don't like that frock much either

yournotfat Wed 17-Jul-13 21:28:03

Wtaf is she wearing?

ScrambledSmegs Wed 17-Jul-13 21:28:05

Christ. That dress. My eyes.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:28:29

I spose red is better than shiny pink. But the hair is so overdone

They didn't seem terribly bright to me this year. More shiny and polished maybe.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:28:49

Just to round things off at this point Leah tells him she's pregnant

She looks like she's blown all the money on all that fake hair. Yack.

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 21:28:55

She looks like Barbie with that dress and hair.

ScrambledSmegs Wed 17-Jul-13 21:29:15

Is her lipstick orange? I can't quite tell against that fluro-nightmare of a frock.

yournotfat Wed 17-Jul-13 21:29:15

Her hair looks ridiculous.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:29:16

Please tell me she hasn't had her boobs done

Waiting to see the dress... (still two minutes behind)

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:29:45

He can't remember why now

WhirlyByrd Wed 17-Jul-13 21:29:47

The bottom of her hair looks... Interesting

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 21:29:53

that dress is blinding.

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 21:29:57

Bloody awful isn't it!

olidusUrsus Wed 17-Jul-13 21:30:07

She looks like a spaniel in a dress.

<<meow>> grin

WetAugust Wed 17-Jul-13 21:30:17

How on earth does Leah think that the way she looks is attractive?

To me it's just shallow and plastic.

'The gift she has?' Really Karen? REALLY?

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 21:31:30

She's reminding me of a Barbie doll I had

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 21:31:32

Think of Leah when she gets to Karen's age...

That is a fucking horrible dress.

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 21:32:38

She needs to stop saying 'passionate'.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:32:49

Dr Leah.

Clinical excellence my arse

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:33:05

Not keeping the name niks funny that

A change of heart when he waved the cheque for 250 grand under her nose

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 21:33:10

olidus that is really insulting.

My spaniel would not be seen dead looking like that!

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 21:33:26

At least she's got the guts to wear it without being fake tanned

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 21:33:26

Would never guess she was still only 24. She looks like one of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

She does that horrible slow blink thing. Like a dolly.

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 21:33:55

Ooh, so now she is saying that it will be run by doctors. Interesting.

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:34:08

Dara so reads these threads

Back2Two Wed 17-Jul-13 21:34:11

In real life Leah used to be a lovely looking girl/woman (saw her on that The Last Five when they look at old photos and stuff)

I could almost weep for her now....she looks like Barbara Cartland already.

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 21:34:17

GO LORRAINE! Fab question.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:34:29

She won't give 40 years

scottishmummy Wed 17-Jul-13 21:34:34

Kerching!lorraine...isn't the money

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:34:43

Ah so you reckons she might go back. Fair enough. She did say she had an exit strategy.

olidusUrsus Wed 17-Jul-13 21:34:45

Oh crap sorry. No offence to any spaniels anywhere! Just her hair reminded me of a spaniel's luxurious ears wink

makingdoo Wed 17-Jul-13 21:35:05

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I'm biased as Leah is a friend of a friend but there's no need to be so mean!!

Wouldn't it be boring if we all looked and thought the same!

Leah is a smart girl and will use her brains to make a future for herself. What's wrong with that?!

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 21:35:23

the evidence is

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 21:35:25

Trout face.

yournotfat Wed 17-Jul-13 21:35:55

She must have had to search a long time for such an awful frock.
She looks cheap and totally unprofessional. I wouldn't let her near my face.

olidusUrsus Wed 17-Jul-13 21:36:27

Nothing making. But the future she's making for herself involves exploiting vulnerable people for the sake of profit.

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 21:36:30

She must have decided that the natural look she sported on the show was a bit too low key for tonight's main event. wink

WhirlyByrd Wed 17-Jul-13 21:36:30

But cosmetic surgery is about making everyone look the same. Get rid of all the wrinkles and look plastic fantastic

scottishmummy Wed 17-Jul-13 21:36:32

Oh behave if mn didn't opine in case someone pal of pal got huff,we'd discuss no one

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:36:37

Siralun's experts have talked sternly to her

BeaLola Wed 17-Jul-13 21:37:13

What is Leah wearing ? It's horrendous .... And the scary thing - I'd rather look like Siralan at 60 plus than Leah does at 24

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 21:37:14

She must be boiling under those lights with all that hair round her face. I feel sweaty just looking at her.

AcrylicPlexiglass Wed 17-Jul-13 21:37:20

Her facial expressions really do look constrained by botox and fillers. She's not a good advert for her trade at all!

FriendofDorothy Wed 17-Jul-13 21:37:56

I am a few minutes behind, but that dress is fucking vile. At least she has brushed her hair though, even if she does look like a Girl's World.

RedToothBrush Wed 17-Jul-13 21:37:56

Wouldn't it be boring if we all looked and thought the same!

Well yes exactly. What do you think cosmetic surgery is essentially all about though... making everyone confirm to a very specific set of 'ideals' in terms of looks... therefore aiming to make everyone look the same!!!

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:38:28

Loud Lloyd. grin

WetAugust Wed 17-Jul-13 21:38:30

Suralan is drooling sad

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 21:38:31

MakingDoo - do have a word with her and tell her to stop injecting her lips!

and please ask her what she thought she was doing wearing that fugly dress

olidusUrsus Wed 17-Jul-13 21:38:55

I know Red, ironic isn't it!?

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:39:26

She was a bit of a cow bag about the pot pourri

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 21:41:05

So will the procedures be done by "nurse practitioners", or by doctors? confused

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:41:12

He did look stunned by this onslaught

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 21:41:22

I have to hand over the ipad.

Sue, what thread are you on next now this is over?

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 21:41:31

The Miss World smile is quite disconcerting.

olidusUrsus Wed 17-Jul-13 21:41:38

My favourite thing about Leah is how she reallly slowwss downn when she wants you to payy attentionnn. "I am sooooo passssssionaaaaaaaaaate".

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:46:01

Cloughy indeed

makingdoo Wed 17-Jul-13 21:47:00

Olidus I don't agree that cosmetic surgery exploits vulnerable people. Some certainly but not all and there's no evidence that this is how Leah's business will work.

Scottishmummy I didn't huff I merely offered my opinion as part of this discussion. I just thought some personal attacks where a bit mean IMO

Cosmetic surgery isn't about everyone looking the same IMO. It's not my cup of tea but each to their own. I do think Leah is too young and doesn't need it.

>>steps back out of thread <<

I will mention that dress wasn't her best idea

ChippingInHopHopHop Wed 17-Jul-13 21:47:48

I'm turning the laptop off now, it's generating FAR FAR too much heat!

Thanks for the company everyone - see you on other threads!

Still18atheart Wed 17-Jul-13 21:52:41

I loved Tom. Best candidate ever IMO

BOF Wed 17-Jul-13 21:53:53

I'm trying to get on the a-list lookalikes site, but it has crashed...

yournotfat Wed 17-Jul-13 21:55:47

I wish she would stop simpering.

amigababy Wed 17-Jul-13 21:57:02

that little in-screen bit was dreadful, what was she doing?

Chubfuddler Wed 17-Jul-13 21:57:18

Lord sugar looks like he really can't be arsed anymore

nametakenagain Wed 17-Jul-13 21:58:39

The slow blink thing is like a lizard, which is why its so offputting. Weeks, weeks, I tell you, it's taken for me to figure that out!

EmmaBemma Wed 17-Jul-13 21:58:45

Leah has successfully made herself look at least 10 years older. Still, it's a look a lot of women like and aspire to. She's an intelligent woman and I think her business model is good. She'll coin it in, no doubt.

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 21:58:45

Is this the tenth series? I wonder if L'Sugar will be involved next year or whether they will get someone else like Duncan Ballantyne?

bico Wed 17-Jul-13 22:00:08

Most people in their 40s look back at themselves in their 20s and wish that their 20s self had known how beautiful they were. Leah won't have that problem. Her 40s self will look back at her 20s self and think that she has been in her 40s for 20 years!

nametakenagain Wed 17-Jul-13 22:12:36

Emmabemma Its a look women aspire to? Really? Based on what? And thats before I ask why.

I was thinking (like others on this thread it seems) that she was a bit misguided, and didn't realise that the natural 24 year old usually looks great..

squoosh Wed 17-Jul-13 22:15:51

Emmabemma is right, it is a look that a lot of women aspire too. I'd call it a generic American porn star/weather girl (depending on my mood) type look. Platinum hair, pouty lips, tanned skin etc.

WetAugust Wed 17-Jul-13 22:17:36

I agree with Emma - it is a look that a lot of young girls seem to aspire to. You only have to spend a short time in a shopping centre to see late teens / 20s with big block eyebrows, inches of slap and big hair.

It's not a look that I like.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 22:35:00

I blame Katie Price.

Until she appeared on the tv, it didn't occur to anyone that their lips should look as though they had been punched in the mouth.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 22:35:50

Jaysus, if you watch BBC NornIron, nothing this exciting has happened, ever grin

legoqueen Wed 17-Jul-13 22:41:54

I'm still reeling at norniron's response to Lorraine that her driver for starting the business is to protect vulnerable young girls from the unscrupulous...really!!

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 22:46:54

Well, the bit that got me was the one where she was saying she would train a manager for three months, leave them to it and move to another clinic in order to be able to open 9 in two years hmm

So not really "Dr Leah" led then?

Pixiepie Wed 17-Jul-13 23:07:19

Well i didnt like either business plan. I just cant believe it that they leave it to the end to tell what their plans are. Surely it destroys the whole process. It then doesnt become about their talent but about their plan. Te guy that lied [ cant remember his name but he had other partners] what a complete waste that was. Someone could have taken his place. Seriously flawed process. Its not about their ability at the end its about their business plan?? Just seems silly to me.

SwedishEdith Wed 17-Jul-13 23:12:08

Leah's mother looked more youthful than Leah - her face, at least, actually moved

Pixiepie Wed 17-Jul-13 23:15:30

Yeah leah looked fake.

Maryz Wed 17-Jul-13 23:18:59

Yes Pixie.

I presume, though, that siralun knows the business plans and takes that into consideration when firing earlier. Which is a bit of a cheat.

I preferred it when he had to employ them. It was much more about the people.

The guy that lied (Jordan). They knew. They also knew it would make good telly. And they were short of good people this year, in my opinion. Which could be because 250,000 isn't a huge amount of money any more, not if you have to give away 50% of your business.

mrslyman Thu 18-Jul-13 00:55:15

Hmm, watched this earlier on delay and just thought I'd take a look at the thread. Feeling slightly disappointed at the amount of sneeriness and bitching about Leah's appearance.

katieks Thu 18-Jul-13 01:37:45

She had a company before apprentice?? See http://www.londonderrysentinel.co.uk/news/local-woman-s-cosmetic-medicine-company-expands-1-4820044

katieks Thu 18-Jul-13 01:38:13

The article mentioned above was from Feb 2013

cafecito Thu 18-Jul-13 02:11:47

I had to watch on iplayer. I am totally horrified that Leah won. The market already has excellent doctor - run practices where the founders still treat their clients. There was no need for this. It is mass produced, terrifying promotion on BBC prime time TV of a service which, if you want it, you will find it. The industry needs regulating but the fact Leah's brain was devoid of this throughout until 'you're hired' means this wasn't even her consideration, rather she spoke of nurse practitioners, and not doing the procedures herself. It saddens me that so many people will now deem this to be normalised - it's fine to choose it yourself, sure, but to fund this with licence payer money to advertise and promote it, makes me feel really sick actually. I am ashamed to be a medic if we churn out plastic fake money obsessed wannabe barbie clones, the type who go to medical school to make themselves look good not to help people. I am not happy at all with the result. Her face is also overfilled, even her cheeks. Scary.

cafecito Thu 18-Jul-13 02:14:53

Luisa is a more driven business woman, a much more genuine character I felt, someone to fill a real hole in the market. I am disappointed. If I were on the apprentice in a medical capacity I would want to fund a safety device or something of utility- this is just very depressing.

Back2Two Thu 18-Jul-13 08:20:23

To be fair mrslyman she has won £250k to invest in the "beauty" business and she herself says she's the first to admit how important looks (image) are to her. Discussing her looks in this context seems a fair discussion.

She's 24 years old. To me, she looks like a 35year old woman who is trying very hard to look younger, but is, in fact just looking very fake.

I'm genuinely puzzled and amazed and shocked and a bit horrified if her "look" is what young women are "aspiring" to. It's no longer about looking "youthful" as it is for my generation ....it's about looking fake and in a very stereotypically sexualised way.

She's going into the non-surgical treatments business and I suppose she's already having treatments herself. She is now a major role model for young girls and women.

Luisa tweeted yesterday that (to paraphrase) a page 3 model was a better role model for her children than a non-working mother as the page 3 model made £££.....Now we have this wonderful example of how a young woman with brains and 7years of training to be a Dr can best use her skills and knowledge. And this is how.....to help other girls to look just as she does. She is obsessed with her looks this much is obvious by looking at her.

This is what The Apprentice has shown us that women can excel in. Looking like this (nearly all the women on the apprentice looked like Barbie dolls) and working in this industry so that other girls can obsess about their looks and image too. It warrants discussion.

FriendofDorothy Thu 18-Jul-13 08:22:04

It was a disappointing result. I still can't believe he picked someone who wears so much lip-gloss that it looked like spunk. Bleurgh.

Chubfuddler Thu 18-Jul-13 08:24:17

It warrants discussion but only so we can ensure we articulate the right messages to our daughters (and our sons). I mean look at Jordan - yes she's a successful loaded business woman. Would I want my daughter to follow a similar path? Hell no.

maybemyrtle Thu 18-Jul-13 08:24:38

It costs the NHS far more than £250k to train a doctor for 7 years. What an absolute waste of money.

Chubfuddler Thu 18-Jul-13 08:25:47

I mean does anyone seriously think that Luisa and Leah are role models that young women are likely to want to emulate? I don't know any girls in their late teens/early twenties who doll themselves up in such a plastic way.

FriendofDorothy Thu 18-Jul-13 08:36:48

This series of The Apprentice seems particularly bad for this Barbie-doll woman thhing. Previous series have seen much quirkier contestants like the one who worse the berets all the time and Ruth Badger.

Back2Two Thu 18-Jul-13 08:37:07

Well that's encouraging chub
I hope not.

Back2Two Thu 18-Jul-13 08:42:51

I've never watched a series of The Apprentice before and I was literally fascinated by the women. I have since been assured that they are not representative of business women and entrepreneurial types.

Still, Jordan is the original version. She was an attractive woman and was young. She chose to start the "turning back time" procedures in her twenties and turned herself into a Barbie. She was touted as being very savvy and clever and a true business woman. The emotional intelligence of distorting your looks in your early twenties needs to be looked at.

Chubfuddler Thu 18-Jul-13 08:44:59

Judith woods in the telegraph this morning has SO been reading these threads. She even calls her Norn Iron.

Chubfuddler Thu 18-Jul-13 08:46:57

And apparently Norn Iron is a bit horrified by her pouty face staring on the show and hadn't realised how she was coming across. So it's sad if she felt she had to be like that to win the show, but hopefully she isn't really like that.

mrslyman Thu 18-Jul-13 09:18:47

Fair enough to comment that you don't like her look, but it's the whole dismissal of anything else that these women have to offer on the basis that they apparently choose a 'barbie doll' look that irks me.

Elliptic5 Thu 18-Jul-13 09:20:01

Verrrrry late to this thread, but Dr Leah? - sounds like a sex therapy clnic to me grin

Chubfuddler Thu 18-Jul-13 09:42:28

I don't think is rejecting anything they have to offer on the basis of how they look.

musicalmum40 Thu 18-Jul-13 09:52:54

Cafecito I was being naive - do you mean that at her age Leah ahs already had fillers?!!!

Eliza22 Thu 18-Jul-13 10:00:27

I don't much like either of them though, in the "after" show with Dara O'Brien I was pleased to see Luisa's apology to Jason.

Leah, surely, at 24 is a very newly qualified doctor? I think it's a shame that someone goes through their medical training and almost immediately on qualifying, wants to go into a private, money making cosmetic procedures clinic. If I was contemplating major cosmetic changes, I'd want someone with more experience though, to be fair, the procedures in her N I K S outfit, are very basic.

Not impressed.

Eliza22 Thu 18-Jul-13 10:07:50

Leah's looks? Well, it's a personal thing, I guess but if I'd been desperately sick on a ward somewhere, I'd not care what she looked like, but then she's not that kind of doctor, is she? She's what my grandad would have called a "dolly bird" and I'd find her manner rather off putting, if she were my GP. All that lip gloss and frizzy, porn star candy floss hair. No. Not for me.

The Apprentice, years ago, used to have a real mix of candidates. Clever young people, more in tune with their ideas and business clout than they appear to be now.

I wanted Neil to win.

Openyourheart Thu 18-Jul-13 10:09:27

I'm actually quite envious of Leah - Very intelligent, very driven and massively confident. I'm sure she will be a very rich and successful woman. But yes, it is a shame that the NHS will be short of a doctor but obviously, like many many other people, she is more interested in business than social good.

Chubfuddler Thu 18-Jul-13 10:12:39

The problem was Neil's idea was rubbish and he doggedly refused to accept it.

Apparently Leah is not at all dolled up at work, to the extent that she has been on duty in a&e throughout the airing of the show and no one recognised her - to paraphrase her words in the Judith woods interview at work she wears no make up, hair scrapped back in a bun.

emmacox1986 Thu 18-Jul-13 10:22:52

Glad Leah won in the end!

squoosh Thu 18-Jul-13 10:37:40

Suralan was clearly still so gutted that it wasn't Neil sitting beside him on stage. grin

chocoluvva Thu 18-Jul-13 10:40:36

The emphasis on 'ethical' facial treatments makes me laugh - not only is it wasting her medical training and encouraging the normalisation of medical cosmetic treatments, it's making a huge profit from the clients. Large profit margins were the clincher for Lord S presumably. A more ethical approach would be to charge less surely.

I hope Dr Leah's skills with a needle are better than most of the junior doctors I've come across. When they're having trouble with my troublesome veins they eventually ask for help from a nurse. They're famous for being rubbish at taking blood. Hopefully, giving injections requires less skill.

Jins Thu 18-Jul-13 10:56:25

I was disappointed in the finalists and the proposed businesses so I didn't enjoy the final as much as normal. However I disliked Leah far less than I disliked Luisa so I guess I got the result I preferred.

squoosh Thu 18-Jul-13 11:08:06

They should have made more of their business plans throughout the series rather than having a semi grand unveiling at the end, it didn't make sense to have sales task after sales task and then decide it all on the proposed business model.

LaVolcan Thu 18-Jul-13 11:13:46

If they made more of their business plans it would become a glorified Dragon's Den though, wouldn't it?

Still, it's not really about LordSugar and his investments, it's pure reality TV.

Chivetalking Thu 18-Jul-13 11:37:40

Stunned at Lord Suralan.

I thought both finalists were weak but plumping (arf) for a base level botox clinic defies belief.

I'd have liked to have seen Francesca in the final and the exercise studios win. I think he missed a sitter there.

MrsFruitcake Thu 18-Jul-13 12:35:12

Chive - I agree, I think Francesca was the strongest candidate last week. Shocked she went.

Quenelle Thu 18-Jul-13 12:46:24

I think Sralan realises he made a mistake binning Francesca. He as good as said so last night.

I've been so put off the women in this series by their Barbie looks and ridiculous high heels. I thought the final three being all women was cause for celebration but for the winner to be a botox clinic and the runner up to be a pinkificated cupcake supplier has summed up the whole thing really.

arabesque Thu 18-Jul-13 12:52:43

I can't really figure Leah out. She's only just qualified and already she's ditching her chosen profession to set up in an (admittedly related) business. I could understand if she'd had a few years working in a hospital setting or as a GP and then decided she wanted a big change. But it does seem to be an awful waste of a highly intelligent and trained doctor. I know she gave a lot of spiel last night about being motivated by concern that unqualified people were carrying out these procedures but I got the impression that was only to put an ethical spin on it for Suralan.

Also, why would a beautiful and intelligent girl deliberately make herself look like a cheap, Bet Lynch style bimbo?

fancyanother Thu 18-Jul-13 13:13:27

Yes, arabesque Thats what I thought. i didn't really buy her "Well, I have plenty of time to work for the NHS" She must have just qualified, decided she couldn't hack A & E, even on £150000+ a year and wanted to do cosmetic procedures with almost no experience as a qualified doctor. How does she think she is going to go back into the NHS, looking at peoples bunions?

squoosh Thu 18-Jul-13 13:15:53

She just said that as she was put on the spot, she has clearly waved goodbye to the NHS for good.

Maryz Thu 18-Jul-13 14:11:18

Yes arabesque, she had clearly been advised to play up wanting to have qualified people doing procedures.

But if you listen to her, it is obvious that she isn't going to have doctors doing it at all. She's just going to train people and move on.

So what is happening ATM, in fact.

RussiansOnTheSpree Thu 18-Jul-13 14:47:28

Leah made a point of saying every 5 minutes or so how ethical and moral she was. Also how intelligent. Clearly never read Othello though, eh. hmm

Eliza22 Thu 18-Jul-13 15:54:40

I could be wrong but, I just don't see Leah working all the hours God sends and working her way up through the ranks to Consultant level. It takes years. I think Leah is trading heavily on the "you can trust me, I'm a Doctor" label and basically, going for the cash. I'm not judging her on that, it's just that she seems very young to have opted out, so soon. Leah did lay it on thick with the fact that she will continue her 'research' and has years ahead of her, to go back to the NHS. Whatever. She'll be worth a fortune, by the time she's 30.

Chubfuddler Thu 18-Jul-13 16:12:15

Good luck to her then. The medical profession is hierarchical and in some respects deeply sexist. If she can take a shortcut to good money why not.

cavell Thu 18-Jul-13 17:10:42

"If she can take a shortcut to good money why not."

That is one way of looking at it. Kind of jars with the "I'm a very ethical and moral person" bit, though, as I see it.

Surprised none of the "experts" on the show seemed to pick up on the fact that it would still be about Leah training up nurses and moving on... so much for pushing the "highly trained medical doctor" side. And why did no-one point out that she isn't "highly trained" - she has only just qualified.

Niks was a sh*te name, too. Still, "Dr Leah" isn't much better. How many clients will Dr Leah herself be treating? None. How many will be treated by a doctor at all? None.

ARealDame Thu 18-Jul-13 17:26:54

I, was disappointed that Sugar chose Leah, given the questionable morality of the botox business. But I guess that's where he comes into his own as the businessman he is. He didn't quite feel comfortable about it, but there was profit in it.

Re. Leah's appearance - I certainly found it bizarre. But - I know a few youngish, fashionable Irish women and this seems to be a kind of fashion for many of them - as said above, an Americanised look, lots of fake tan, make up, etc. Perhaps that could explain some of it? But I agree, its an awful look, very fake and bland too.

SassySpice Thu 18-Jul-13 18:15:13

I have a MASSIVE crush on Neil Clough. Really want an hour with him somewhere. God he's gorgeous <fans self>

JustinBsMum Thu 18-Jul-13 19:02:15

Well Leah looked fab when she gave her presentation. To walk on and speak well and answer tricky questions was pretty good going.

The cup cake fad has been going for a while now, I wouldn't be surprised if it started to fizzle out v soon. Prob to be replaced with something healthier.

squoosh Thu 18-Jul-13 19:06:37

SassySpice I kept screaming at him to shave his neck. It was as though he was wearing a fur onesie.

Steffanoid Thu 18-Jul-13 19:08:38

only just watched, I dont think Louisa explained her idea clearly enough for anyone and thats why he chose Leah, not sure it was my favourite though

waikikamookau Thu 18-Jul-13 19:18:41

i think neils was too stubborn and self important, though he might have been a good business man.
I liked Jason and who knows what a business man he might have been, he might have been marvellous
and I cant understand how siralan got rid of Miles, who is frankly gorgeous.

I think leah blinded him with science frankly and he was bowled over by her being a doctor. as they all were.
quite a boring ending.
luisa cocked up with her pink cakes, but I actually liked her. in spite of her Jason treatment.

milbracat Thu 18-Jul-13 19:32:02

I don't think that the "process" has really done any favours for women in business. Both finalists made much of their image (ie outward physical appearance) and both chose business that were within their comfort zones as women - Louisa's "more of the same" bakery business with over emphasis on pink cup cakes, and Leah's cosmetic procedures that pander to women's insecurities about their appearance. Even the third place contestant as very much in the female safe space.

Interesting that they seemed to have chosen predominately men to assist them in the final.

I'm rather hoping that this series of the Apprentice has been the last as I think it has rather become formulaic with the same types of scenarios enacted by different people.

Why is Botox unethical? Is dying your hair unethical too?

chocoluvva Thu 18-Jul-13 21:50:57

Botox involves the injection of poison into your facial muscles to paralyse them. It costs £300.

A recent study found that botox injections around the mouth lessen your ability to smile which has a detrimental effect on your mental health. I kid you not.

cafecito Thu 18-Jul-13 22:25:20

musicalmum40, yes it's obvious

fancyanother, newly qualified doctors don't get £150,000 I promise you. somewhere between 22 and 38k. I am also puzzled - has she only done FY1? You have to do 2 years post grad to be fully GMC registered

I agree though with your comments. I am glad she is relying on her looks and desire to make money as I would not take her seriously now as a medical doctor.

The business plan has been done before, too, but brilliantly and by qualified doctors who do it for cosmetic reasons to help people as well (eg skin cancer/ mole removal) such as here. The industry needs regulating completely, but this TV appearance has not done anything to help that, rather it's made it seem like anyone can set up shop. worrying.

The best thing she could do is campaign for regulation, do her specialty training in dermatology or something, and get taken on by a trusted clinic as a member of staff.

cafecito Thu 18-Jul-13 22:26:00

*and also to help..

cafecito Thu 18-Jul-13 22:27:45

or carve out a media doctor career. But in my opinion I wouldn't care what she had to say with so little experience. Pixie et al have years of real experience. At least Fran's venture 'had legs' - and was health promoting.

scottishmummy Thu 18-Jul-13 23:18:24

She'd get full gmc registration with a licence to practise upon successful completion F1
It does mean her qualifying experience is limited as she proceeding into private practice
Also her experience of different institutions, staff and specialities will be limited

fancyanother Thu 18-Jul-13 23:31:08

Yes, everyone will now know that not only do "Dr Leah" clinics have a barely qualified doctor at the helm, but that said "Doctor" isn't even going to be running the clinics. If they want that sort of treatment at that cost, surely they would go to one with someone who had put a few more years in?
Cafe no, I cant see how she is going to carve out a media doctor career, unless it is in the Katie Hopkins mould of talking out of her arse to get her face in the papers.
I thought GPs were on £150K after a few years. I meant she couldn't even be bothered to put in the grunt work for a few years to earn a pretty decent long term salary and career, she just wants to make a quick buck after taking a load of taxpayers money!

fancyanother Thu 18-Jul-13 23:33:52

Waikiki I said when Jason was fired I thought he would be the most successful of all of them without siralan. That would show them- nice guy make a success of business where all the backstabbers have failed

scottishmummy Thu 18-Jul-13 23:40:57

Woah, leah hasn't taken taxpayer monies.shes a graduate chosing non traditional career route
Plenty course have high attrition rate,eg teaching.one cant compel folk to remain in medicine
Honestly,if leah feels she wants to proceed into private practice cosmetics she completely entitled to do so

monkey42 Thu 18-Jul-13 23:50:52

as another medic have read this whole thread with interest...mostly because I couldn't believe Leah was being taken seriously as a 'doctor' when as has been pointed out she can have only worked or maybe 2 years at most is barely at all, and certainly not as a dermatologist.

These days there is a trickle of doctors leaving medicine for other careers eg in the city. Although the headlines claim huge salaries for a few gps across the country the norm i think is still a good salary but much less than quoted. I am in hospital medicine where a full time consultant earns about 80k, after 5-6 years of med school, and somewhere between 10-14 years of scaling the ranks to consultant level. So a good salary compared to many but not huge compared to other london salaries eg finance/law/botox clinics!!

RussiansOnTheSpree Thu 18-Jul-13 23:50:57

Of course she has taken tax payers' money. More to the point, she took a medical degree place and then a training place that somebody else would have made better use of.

scottishmummy Thu 18-Jul-13 23:56:19

All courses have grads who don't remain in field,it happens a lot
What are you suggesting?she progressed and passed on her merits

RussiansOnTheSpree Fri 19-Jul-13 00:03:00

According to this article ...... www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/9724532/The-NHS-will-train-fewer-doctors-to-avoid-future-brain-drain-report-warns.html

.......it costs £250K to train each Doctor. Complete waste of money in Leah's case. And what's more, not only is she not honoring that investment, she is unethically using it to fleece the credulous and the unhappy and the vulnerable. There's a reason she keeps telling people she is ethical and moral, over and over again - it's because she knows very well that she isn't.

scottishmummy Fri 19-Jul-13 00:05:31

Yes it's a huge investment. But realistically what are you suggesting
Mandatory work upon graduation
Will you inc the teachers, other hcp etc who don't work Public service upon graduation?

nametakenagain Fri 19-Jul-13 00:16:01

Yes, mandatory work in the public sector on graduation to pay back tax payers' investment in your training. Doctors, nurses, teachers, etc. What's wrong with that?

People leaving to pursue commercial interests pay back the cost of their training.

Seems reasonable. I don't see why that doesn't happen already.

RussiansOnTheSpree Fri 19-Jul-13 00:23:52

scottish I think, in this new age of paying for degrees etc, that for doctors, nurses, dentists, teachers - anyone who gets a massively tax payer subsidized training as well as a degree, but then instead of respecting the social contract implicit in that subsidized training jumps ship straight away to join the private sector (which they can only do because of the qualification they have had laid for out of my taxes) - they should automatically get the true cost of their qualification added to their student debt.

scottishmummy Fri 19-Jul-13 00:24:45

Whats wrong with it?everything.you shouldn't inhibit free movement of labour
And in certain fields eg teaching (not medicine) there too many grads not enough jobs
I don't think the public sector can compel people to work in it,nor should it

RussiansOnTheSpree Fri 19-Jul-13 00:31:19

There is no inhibition of free movement of labour! People can do what they want. But if they want to screw over the taxpayer then they have to pay back the cost of their training. It wouldn't be the public sector compelling people to work in it. It would be a T&C of medical/teacher/dentist training. You qualify. You go to work in private sector? You pay back the lot. You go to work in Public sector? You pay back your student loan only. You decide not to stick in the field for which you were trained (or fail to get a job in that field) but you get another graduate or non graduate job not reliant on your professional qualification - you just pay back your student loan like anyone else. You don't work at all? You pay back nothing.

Couldn't be fairer or indeed clearer.

SwedishEdith Fri 19-Jul-13 00:31:29

In theory, if they go into the more lucrative private sector, they will be paying back the cost of their training in taxes.

RussiansOnTheSpree Fri 19-Jul-13 00:32:18

Sorry - I meant you pay back the lot if you go to work in your profession in the private sector. Not if you go and work in a call centre or something like that.

RussiansOnTheSpree Fri 19-Jul-13 00:32:38

Swedish and if you believe that.......

CatsAndTheirPizza Fri 19-Jul-13 02:12:28

Maybe Leah's been given feedback that she's no empathy/will make a rubbish doctor, which is why she applied? Can't believe with competition for medical places at university so tough that they let her in - how depressing.

They were a bit mean to poor old Jason in the final show!

waikikamookau Fri 19-Jul-13 06:53:52

but did you see Karen's face when dara was so rude about jason, she obviously liked Jason.

waikikamookau Fri 19-Jul-13 07:59:29
waikikamookau Fri 19-Jul-13 07:59:47
RussiansOnTheSpree Fri 19-Jul-13 08:08:09

You do realise that's just for show? She won't have time. Not if she is going round the country training what sounds like minimum wage level people to inject poison into people's faces. And sugar won't let her. He was worried about Luisa owning other businesses, he isn't going to let Leah work full time in a masters degree and part time on their business. As if anyone would offer her a place on a masters course.....when her contract is up, that'll be it.

waikikamookau Fri 19-Jul-13 08:17:16

I think sugar will let her, if only to stop the negative remarks about her nhs training.

RussiansOnTheSpree Fri 19-Jul-13 08:23:48

He won't care about the negative remarks.

Anyway, it's nice to see that Luisa has secured £500K of funding from a business angel group. I'm no fan of cakes (I know that vegan baking is a thing now, but when I w a kid there was no such thing as dairy free cakes so I never got the taste for them and I'm not minded to develop it at this time in my life! grin ) but she had a decent business idea and she is obviously committed to making it work with or without old grumpy chops.

LaVolcan Fri 19-Jul-13 08:30:38

I couldn't see why Sugar got so hung up on Luisa's other businesses. The were in the same sort of area: cupcakes and home baking are not a million miles apart. She was employing staff to run them. Does Sugar run all his businesses himself, or does he employ staff?

I definitely think he saw £££ sign's with Leah. Who is apparently going to do a Masters, train staff in her botox clinics, (and continue in A & E, or will that bite the dust?)

He should have gone with Francesca.

RussiansOnTheSpree Fri 19-Jul-13 08:36:21

Francesca had a terrible idea. She hadn't researched the market at all. It's completely dominated by the branded classes.

Also - that 'dance' she did in Leah's pitch was a bit bobbins.

mynameismskane Fri 19-Jul-13 14:46:22

I know Luisa very well (don't want to say too much to out myself but I assure you this is the truth) and she is absolutely fine with coming second. She has a LOT of self belief and is determined to be someone and I have no doubt she will be! Her parents are fantastic by the way and gave her everything - she was and is a very lucky girl.

Chubfuddler Fri 19-Jul-13 15:01:22

She came over better in twenty minutes with dara than she did for most of the show tbh. Seemed much more natural.

olidusUrsus Fri 19-Jul-13 15:02:12

If anything, I think Luisa's done the best here, better than Leah anyway. I agree with Russian, no way will Leah take leave to do a Masters, no way will she be allowed to traipse around the country providing training and not because she has 0 experience and I strongly doubt that the '40 years left of my life to devote to the NHS' prophecy will come true either.

Luisa got exposure, she matured and now she has a huge investment. Probably with much fewer strings attached that Sugar's offer, too.

squoosh Fri 19-Jul-13 15:05:34

It's always best to be a runner up in a reality show. The same amount of publicity but with far less hassle.

RussiansOnTheSpree Fri 19-Jul-13 16:07:09

I thought Luisa's apology to Jason was very sweet. Obviously no idea if it was genuine. But it seemed so.

olidusUrsus Fri 19-Jul-13 16:18:24

Yy squoosh
