Wow, just wow! Well done that boy!

Didn't doubt him for a second. Played out of his skin!

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 17:30:11

Has Sue taken her jacket off- she must be melting.

Can you not be a ball girl if you don't have hair long enough for a French plait?

That's a quick updating of the champions board!

Well, after all the threads, someone was going to say it, eventually*Chub*hmm

Witt- preciselygrin

Awwwwww McK smile

RustyBear Sun 07-Jul-13 17:33:26

Isn't it about time they put some steps up so they don't have to climb over a roof to hug their family?

Bbms, he would have only met one of the biggies in the last match, he is number 2 in the world. It was either him or Novak this year. Nothing to do with big names (who are in their ascendancy) being knocked out. Sorry, but I feel strongly about not taking this away from him.

pollywollydoodle Sun 07-Jul-13 17:33:50

aww lovely djok

scottishmummy Sun 07-Jul-13 17:34:24

I not a tennis fan but I'm chuffed for him

Thumbwitch Sun 07-Jul-13 17:34:27

I think he's in shock!

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 17:34:31

Glaikit- he would have met at least one of the top 10 had he not had them all crocked before the final...grin

Djokovic seems like a genuinely nice guy.

NotAQueef Sun 07-Jul-13 17:34:47

Fucking sue, she should ask novak questions abut him not Andy

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 17:35:25

Meglet Sun 07-Jul-13 17:36:00

Lendl has TEETH!

But he would have still be the higher seed in those matches raah!

Bloody hell was that Victoria Beckham smiling?

Right, now that's over can someone tell me who were those two not unattractive blokes in suits the camera kept panning to?

Alibabaandthe40nappies Sun 07-Jul-13 17:36:46

claig Sun 07-Jul-13 17:41:45

"the best player on the day won"

yes, Andy dominated the game and Novak made too many loose shots. Andy deserved it and it was a good straight sets victory.

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 17:57:09

sieze- think Scottishmummy was referring to the fact Startail called her 'Vagina'

'Who was Vagina Wade'

CatsAndTheirPizza Sun 07-Jul-13 17:57:45

'he is human after all, he has emotions' fuck the fuckity fuck off Boris, you t**t. Sorry sieze.

Am so grateful to my incredible DS1 who has chosen friends whose parents turned up on time to pick up from his party this afternoon.

I wish he had given some credit to Kim - not sure what his relationship with his mum is like, but he gave a lot of credit to Lendl

Only caught the last game, but am so happy he won. I find sporting events like this incredibly motivating - kicking my life back into shape after this

Chipstick10 Sun 07-Jul-13 17:57:54

How over the top have the bbc been! Ridiculously cringe.

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 17:58:12

Seems so long since Dustin was playing.

I hate the montage. Makes me cry. It's nearly oversad

WandaDoff Sun 07-Jul-13 17:58:21

Virginia Wade won the women's singles in 1977, I think. smile

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 17:59:02

Chip- taking nothing from Murray, the media frenzy will be ridiculous- and the PR effort prior was in overdrive.

GameSetAndMatch Sun 07-Jul-13 18:00:03

BTW only came online a while ago so missed out on the John inverdale rant but he should look in a mirror, and Marion is NOT ugly. shes very cute.

Stila Sun 07-Jul-13 18:00:11

Sieze did Judy Murray open/re open/did something at the tennis centre near the Liberty Stadium ? I can see the evening post laying claim to a Wimbledon Champion tomorrow . Mum and I always joke that they can connect Swansea to any news story .

ClayDavis Sun 07-Jul-13 18:00:56

I'd almost forgotten about Dustin until that montage.

Witt Sun 07-Jul-13 18:01:06

Fair weather tennis fans, it is now time for the mixed doubles tennis One more match.

Chipstick10 Sun 07-Jul-13 18:01:22

Am so sad it's all over - am going to miss you all - until the US Open!

Well done, Andy!

MirandaWest Sun 07-Jul-13 18:04:30

Ah just moved to BBC 2. Quite like the thing that must have been recorded ahead of time about Britain winning it. Do you think they've been making them every year for a while?

NoComet Sun 07-Jul-13 18:04:52

Sorry Ms Wade, child aided dyslexic spelling, DD2 wants me to watch cooking ideas on Utube.

PeriodMath Sun 07-Jul-13 18:05:26

I thought it would have been nice to have given his mum and Kim a mention. Perhaps he didn't trust himself not to blub.

LetUsPrey Sun 07-Jul-13 18:05:34

Oh yes, Dustin. I shall be looking out for him in future tournaments. For his tennis obviously.

ClayDavis Sun 07-Jul-13 18:06:23

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 18:08:12

I don't recall who opened the tennis center here. If there is no plaque up saying who did it, if it was Judy? There will be one there by Monday afternoon!
Thank goodness the Virginia Wade thing was not serious! Phew!

Tomorrow morning i have to wake up and work like I used to work - that being normal hours and no cramming it all in before 1pm. That's just really naff and upsetting and I can't afford to get Sky sports to watch the flipping American Open, not this year.

It was like a different man to the one who played federer last year. This is just the beginning. He is amazing.

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 18:15:01

That was a great, great game - however - my best match of the tournament was Djok & Del Potato. That just took my breath away. Completely. I have hugely enjoyed this last 2 weeks.

Stila Sun 07-Jul-13 18:15:10

Sieze just had a google and she did indeed re open it .

edam Sun 07-Jul-13 18:17:47

Blimey. That was amazing. Bless him, he even got some emotion into his voice at the end - usually speaks in a real monotone, have always assumed he doesn't like being interviewed.

Stila Sun 07-Jul-13 18:18:35

Oh yes the Djokovic v Del Potato was a fantastic match

GameSetAndMatch Sun 07-Jul-13 18:20:27

Are we all changing our tennis tennis nicknames now till the next tournament then?

I might find a more witty one next time! tennis

ClayDavis Sun 07-Jul-13 18:20:59

Taking nothing away from Andy, I agree that Djok v Potato was the match of the tournament.

Chipstick10 Sun 07-Jul-13 18:21:24

Agree alex salmond is a prat. He will get his comeuppance next year for sure. What a un dignified thing to do.

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 18:22:29

He doesn't like being interviewed. He says that back when he first started winning, he did an interview and the interviewer took what he said the wrong way and reported it as such. That's where this sulky, I hate the world attitude that people think he has has come from. He said he has been wary of interviews ever since.

edam Sun 07-Jul-13 18:22:40

It's been really exciting this year - mixing up the shots, loads of tricky stuff that you think someone has no chance of returning and then they do. Hugely entertaining - unlike the olden days when the men's game was just ace after ace after ace.

GameSetAndMatch Sun 07-Jul-13 18:23:00

and YY the Djok/Potro matych as THE match of the tournament.

What a tournament. wierd wierd wierd but ultimately the winners are thouroughly deserving.

in the ladies, just a breath of fresh air to not see the shouty usuals, and yes look how quiet the 2 finalists played. tennis.

Im so gushy! tennis

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 18:24:00

I don't know what Salmond said? I was busy jumping all over dc's because he won then yelling over fence with neighbour grin

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 18:25:43

Back in the olden day - lol edam You are young, aren't you? I am so old - waaaiiillll.....

Chipstick10 Sun 07-Jul-13 18:26:15

I think Murray is a cold fish, he could've thanked Kim and his mum. He didn't even remember to hug her. #disappointing.

LadyBeagleEyes Sun 07-Jul-13 18:26:23

Alex Salmond isn't so bad.
You really do hate the Scots Chipstick, don't you?

edam Sun 07-Jul-13 18:27:51

I wish, seize! grin Was just a turn of phrase.

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 18:28:51

Ohhh, don't fight ladies, come on. Each has an opinion, leave it there.

I may have to go shower once ds's pizza is cooked, feel all worn out!

GameSetAndMatch Sun 07-Jul-13 18:28:53

chip i think he was just so in shock, hed had a speech prepared but lost it all in the moment! tennis.

and he did hug her, she wasnt in the box, he went looking for her.

His mum wasn't sitting with the rest of his team!! He probably thought it was all too much for her. And he did thank his team!

Chipstick, my gran used to say "if you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing at all"

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 18:29:50

edam grin You mean Sampras Era when it was all whack an ace and be done with it. I look back to McEnroe and Connors = old.... God.

diddl Sun 07-Jul-13 18:30:32

"Olden days"-*edam*??

How far are you going back?

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 18:30:54

That is 'God' at my age not 'God at you - here have flowers flowers in case that read wrong!

JakeBullet Sun 07-Jul-13 18:32:35

tbh, I think AM was actually quite shell shocked...too shell shocked to remember to do anything like hug his Mum. He seemed absolutely bewildered in a "I cant believe tis is real and I've done it" way. grin

edam Sun 07-Jul-13 18:33:32

grin Honestly, I am very far from young - put it this way, shop assistants call me Madam, not Miss, and my age starts with a 4... Was just a turn of phrase!

MrsBungle Sun 07-Jul-13 18:34:17

What a fab match. Well done Andy.

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 18:34:58

I agree that the Djoko/Del Potato match was the absolute match of the tournament. The final was good, but in no way a classic. But it will be remembered as such, because Andy won. Deservedly so, but there have been better finals.

I am missing most of the Mixed doublessad

Chipstick10 Sun 07-Jul-13 18:35:06

Not at all ladybeagle, hate is a very strong word. I try not to hate.

VikingVagine Sun 07-Jul-13 18:36:13

Salmond didn't say anything, he just held up a massive Scottish flag behind Cameron when Andy won. Tosser.

LadyBeagleEyes Sun 07-Jul-13 18:36:36

Well you don't like us much Chipstick, I've seen a lot of your posts.

galletti Sun 07-Jul-13 18:38:54

Blimey Chopstick - give the guy a chance. He had just won the Championship in amazing style on a super hot day, was in shock, and you are calling him a cold fish for not thanking mum and Kim? Actuallyl, he did mention his mum in the speech, and I am sure there will be lots of thankyous in private as it should be. You are disappointed by that after what has been achieved today. Really?!

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 18:39:27

That's it! I have been thinking all the last 2 weeks that Lipsticky reminded me of somebody - Its Jessica from True Blood!

Chubfuddler Sun 07-Jul-13 18:39:49

Blimey. We've managed to have probably a dozen threads in the last fortnight with posters supporting Spanish, French, Serb, polish, British, German, argentine, Chinese, American and more. But when a British man wins we have to have this sectarian shit.

Button it the lot of you with this crap. It's a huge achievement for andy murray personally and a great thing for Britain. We do somehow manage to piss on our own parade in this country don't we?

LetUsPrey Sun 07-Jul-13 18:41:04

I'm English. I like the Scots. I like them so much I married one.

I am the Victor Kiam of this thread.

ClayDavis Sun 07-Jul-13 18:41:13

What Chubb said.

MrsBungle Sun 07-Jul-13 18:42:03

Agreed chub it's really quite pathetic.

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 18:42:12

Well said chub It doesn't matter - Scottish flag and British Flag - hold up both. People were holding up both. Its a good day for all.

ClayDavis Sun 07-Jul-13 18:43:22

<hides Guernsey flag>
<whistles innocently>

scottishmummy Sun 07-Jul-13 18:43:25

Oh calm down dear you sound like deranged of Home Counties
The only person having a moment is you
Murray is scottish,get over it

galletti Sun 07-Jul-13 18:44:53

LOL Let us Pray!

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 18:45:25

Oh dear....
I'm off for a shower, can't be bothered to argue about this.

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 18:46:38

Ps - hiding my Welsh flag with clay's Guernsey one...

Fairylea Sun 07-Jul-13 18:47:36

I loved his speech! Funny and gracious!

Well done him smile

What a fantastic match!

Chubfuddler Sun 07-Jul-13 18:47:59

Whatever scottushmummy

If he felt that strongly about it he wouldn't have agreed to be part of team GB last year. Until parliament decides otherwise Scottish is an ethnicity, not a nationality.

VikingVagine Sun 07-Jul-13 18:48:19

My post was replying to someone up thread who asked what Salmond had said! He was the one rubbing in the Scottish devision thing, not me!

scottishmummy Sun 07-Jul-13 18:49:22

Lets be clear for the hard of finking.sectarian sentiments are divisive on religious basis
Waving a saltire is an acknowledgement that Murray is scottish
Displaying national pride that one of us did well.a legitimate thing to do

galletti Sun 07-Jul-13 18:52:02

Well, I have to admit to having the blue and white polka dot bunting out today, as I was born in Glasgow of Scottish parentage, but live in England. I see myself as British, but support a Scot or Scottish team when they are playing a sport. When England play, I support them and have red and white polka dot bunting which goes out. In the Olympics I had both the blue and white, and the red and white bunting out to support Team GB. In fact, I alternated the triangles. Yes, you've guessed it, I am slightly mad, and also had a lot of time on my hands last year, and got carried away with bunting making! grin

<hides behind Scottishmummy>

I couldn't give a shiny shit, who thinks what about this, I am proud that a young man, with the expectations of a nation on his shoulders pulled it out the bag. Regardless of whether anyone "likes" him surely he deserves a pat on the back and a well done, even from his haterz. Just because he is a sportsman, it doesn't mean he has to be the chirpiest, most likeable person in the world.

What I will say is, if you haven't, watch the documentary they did about him. See him speak about him and Kim, his childhood, his family and what happened to him the day a nutjob went berserk in his school with a gun. If you still think he is a cold fish, then IMHO that says much more about you than it does him.

Alibabaandthe40nappies Sun 07-Jul-13 18:53:23

<hides thread>

See you for the US tennis fans! tennis

FreedomOfTheTess Sun 07-Jul-13 18:59:40

Murray is Scottish and British.

Scottish is not yet a nationality, so by default, he's British.

His cultural identity is Scottish.

It really isn't rocket science.

Well done to Murray - a great day for Scotland and the WHOLE of Britain - whether the Scots like it or not.

NB: Let us not forget, most of Andy's early funding was from the British pot, so it's very much a day for Britain.

And that's all I'm saying on the matter.

scottishmummy Sun 07-Jul-13 19:02:25

That's you then?good

Chipstick10 Sun 07-Jul-13 19:06:16

Lets be clear alex salmond is a fool with no class. Personally I think he is very anti English but that's my personal feeling. I couldn't imagine sir Chris hoy behaving in such a crass manner.
Clearly it was a crass thing to do because many have commented on it.

GameSetAndMatch Sun 07-Jul-13 19:06:51

Im going form one channel to another- sky news. sky sports news, BBC news, mixed doubled final.....

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 19:12:08

A horrible way to end this last 2 weeks. And this line of threads, that have been running since the French Open was on without any of this bickering and stupidity. And have been a great testimony to Tennis and fans and friendships formed for the love of one thing - tennis.
Shame on you. Reducing this to a scrap.
Shame on you and shame for those of us who have been here from the start enjoying it all.

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 19:12:42

just wanted to sprinkle a few tennistennistennis,

and thanks to OYBBK, and the commitment to her new hobby, for lobbying MNHQ to get it.

And isn't it nice that many of the Champs this year, haven't won before?

Consils Sun 07-Jul-13 19:16:08

Are there highlights for those who missed it?

scottishmummy Sun 07-Jul-13 19:16:17

What are you sighing about with humphy facesad?
I think well done Murray is pretty universal sentiment
The other stuff, well you're not going to achieve agreement.but doesn't mean can't be discussed

ooh, theres Andy with Sue

Lovemynailstoday Sun 07-Jul-13 19:30:22

I know a few posters have mentioned Dunblane already, but it really does leave a lump in the throat thinking about what that town went through and how, now, a kid who was caught up in that tragedy has achieved what AM did today. It's so lovely.

GameSetAndMatch Sun 07-Jul-13 19:37:03

yes, and I think if Andy hadnt been so shocked hed have mentioned that, Ross Hutchins, and everyone else, but fantastic that he mentioned Lendl as Ivans bought out the best inm him, and it was lovely that Murray won it in his name too, as Ivan came so close too. tennis

magimedi Sun 07-Jul-13 19:38:38

FFS - he won - WTF does it matter what nationality he is? He played the best game & did it.

Well done Andy!

scottishmummy Sun 07-Jul-13 19:41:18

Ali do you plan address other posters individually,or just posts you dislike
I'll post as I wish on any thread,as indeed I expect others to.that the point

But, I remain loyal to the end, and agree with Raaahh that the best match of the tournament for me was the semi-final with Djok and El Potato. See you all soon.

Chubfuddler Sun 07-Jul-13 20:23:40

Well to those who have enjoyed this match and the whole championships in the spirit in which they are intended to be played, it has been a pleasure to spend thus time with you and I couldn't be happier with the result.

ClayDavis Sun 07-Jul-13 21:16:49

I think I've used this month's !!!!!! allocation. Will have to hold back.

I haven't seen seize for a while... I think Boris and Mac will be needed for 'Today at Wimbledon' so she's going to have to let them out of the cupboard.

Back to reality tomorrow - dentist at 9.00am for two fillings.

An listening to Radio 3 and they just played the full Wimbledon music (it does have another name). Made me feel rather nostalgic for lovely Wimbledon being over sad

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 07:14:07

tennis To The Cult.
sad But no tennis to watch.

I left the thread last night because some pesky people had roamed on over to it and started a fight about flags!? Nutters. It was a huge shame because you guys, you know who you are, who welcomed me in 2 weeks ago when I butted in on your thread, have been great to chat with and fun and have made this really one to remember, as if Murray winning was not enough to make it one to remember!
Thank you all for the last 2 weeks. I am unable to get American Open sad Am hugely tempted to ring Sky and ask for sports channels on 1 month free trial from mid August. Wonder if they would go for it..?

I shall miss Boris.
A lot.

I shall miss you guys.
A lot.

I shall miss the tennis.
Too much.

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 07:15:38

Potato to win 2014!

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 07:16:43

I will check in later see if anybody is about cause I scarpered off last night and feel bad for leaving you all sad

Sieze, do call sky and find out about sports. Around that time they will be offering deals for the football starting and with bt sport coming online, they are likely to be good deals too!

It has been a pleasure ladies, sorry if my nationalistic views slipped out (I try to keep them to myself) but I am very proud of that young man, regardless of where he comes from and it makes me sad that people don't like him because he is perceived as grumpy/cold/not a media darling.

Anyway, until next time! smile

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 07:35:18

It wasn't you glaik It was somebody that I can not recall the name who posted up some twattish comment - the likes you find on AIBU, which is where it belongs, not on a tennis thread where we were all batting along so nicely. They hadn't been on here for long either, not a regular poster on these threads at all. So not you Glaik flowers

I have been with Sky for decades, as a good will gesture, for loyalty, I would think they will do this, right? A trial run of the sport channel - the tennis one please...

Raahh Mon 08-Jul-13 07:39:37

morning sieze- it did all go a bit wrong, but that's often the waysad

I can't get the US open either, but try to keep up with thescores. It's never the same. And last year, the Olympics filled a gap.

My older dcs have a transition week this week, to get toknow their teachers for next year. DS never seems to notice who his teacher is, he just gets on with it. DD1 is going into yr 3- and isn't 7 til mid August- she's a lot more nervous. Plus, one of her teachers (it's a post mat leave /part time job share) is the teacher ds had when she taught mixed yr 1/2 class. And she's not greatsad. So, my sadness at the end of Wimbledon is being over taken by my worries for dd1. grin

but looktennis- it's still here!

Right- off to school.

Fiderer Mon 08-Jul-13 07:56:11

I enjoyed the thread - lurked on earlier ones.

And now I know I'm not the only one with a Boris thing <waves to seize> so all's well that ends well grin

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 07:59:56

Ay, it is the way unfortunately and I just did not want yesterday ruined so I stepped back. Possibly best cause had somebody said something horrid to one of you guys that have been here form the start, I would have waded in, in your support. I have a mean Welsh gob on me when I start so tend to not start grin I am always sorry afterwards so yeah, I tend to walk off, even in Rl.

Sure your dd will be okay. I used to hate with a passion my dc's starting with a new teacher. I don't miss all that stress.

Are we keeping the thread up for a while? Do any of you want to know when dd has her baby? Don't like to post it up as a title thread, seems a bit self important!
Mind you - she's not due for 4/5 weeks!
Start a therapy thread I reckon so we all have someplace to go to check in each day.. .But this is Telly isn't it? Sigh....
I'm getting dressed, we are out of milk. I swear I need to get a cow and milk it each day, we go through so much milk.

VikingVagine Mon 08-Jul-13 08:01:10

<runs off for telling tales>

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 08:01:40

I forgive your blatant flirting with Boris fid In the cold light of day, I know he would rather have the Welsh Woman with the horrid hair plus my skills are unsurpassed in the Broom Cupboard grin
Off to get the milk....

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 08:02:10

Lol *viking!' That's made me really laugh out loud!

IrnBruTheNoo Mon 08-Jul-13 08:41:01

Congratulations to Andy Murray, fantastic Scotsman who has won the Wimbledon Championships. Fed up of this 'British' nonsense. He's the first Scotsman ever to win Wimbledon. It should be shouted from the rooftops!

Jacaqueen Mon 08-Jul-13 08:42:25

I know I have not been a prolific poster, mainly because I am on holiday and supposed to be keeping mumsneting to a minimum. Just wanted to say thanks for the thread and the banter. I am the only true tennis fan in this house so it has been great to have some like minds to watch with.

The US Open final match last year was brilliant. I was quaffing malt like it was Hogmanay. I don't think I went to bed and can still remember the hangover. Anyway I don't have Sky but some clever person posted a link to watch the live streaming on line. No idea if it was legal, I suspect not, but it worked.

Witt Mon 08-Jul-13 08:46:09

Has anyone set up the Wimbledon recovery thread yet? tennis <- whilst we still can smile

sieze definitely let us know when your DD has her baby!

Witt Mon 08-Jul-13 08:46:57

He's the first Scotsman ever to win Wimbledon Fairly sure he's actually the second.

Witt Mon 08-Jul-13 08:49:06

A bit of quick googling reveals Scotsman Harold Mahony won in 1896. So first Scotsman in the open era, but not first scotsman.

I love being a picky pedant grin

IrnBruTheNoo Mon 08-Jul-13 08:51:33

Fair do's *Witt. wink In recent history though, he's the first to win Wimbledon.

CatsAndTheirPizza Mon 08-Jul-13 08:53:03

Two of you fighting over Boris! <brain bleach>

I think I might have butted in on this thread too, now you mention it Seize. Oops, sorry blush. Good luck to your daughter having her baby - you must be so excited.

Could we maybe just pretend the tennis is still on - save the hassle of getting Sky? New tennis

Witt Mon 08-Jul-13 08:56:56

Tennis fans generally refer to recent history as the open era.

NoComet Mon 08-Jul-13 08:58:37

I'm missing the tennis already, and I'll miss you lot too!

I'm beginning to corrupt my DDs into being tennis fans.

Not DH, he went to Tesco's during the match, But DH is a sport free zone, hence his delight at having DDs.

DD2, of course, plays rugby, football, netball, hockey and rounders and does gymnastics and ballet. So much for girls not wanting endless kit washing and picking up from matches grin

Now to find a way to watch the US open, DSIS has sky (grotty rural free view) so she just takes out a sports subscription and cancels it a month later every year envy

Well back to real life and putting away mounds of washing that were on the line during the last few beautiful days.

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 09:01:56

Oh be quiet cats <<you're my favourite aside from raahh who I am having an emotional affair with>> You came on for tennis not a fight with Scots and British. Twas not you who started a romp about a flag. Tut to them - you know who you are.
And you have put up with my cooing over Boris admirably. Admirably.
It would actually be a weird set up given I was born in Wales to a French family and he is German! Good job Boris and I have the language of love to get us through it all <<barf>> I love Boris! tennis

Chubfuddler Mon 08-Jul-13 09:02:00

Woke up with a big smile on my face. How team murray feel I can only imagine. Beautiful day, wonderful happenings over the weekend, makes you feel glad to be alive.

Just checking they still work. Would love to know when your dd has her baby seize. Will you be moving Boris into her room once she's moved out?

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 09:07:27

Murray was just on the radio - he sounds wrung out.
What on this Earth is Bonkers Barker going to say next year when she can't say, 'Not since 1937 have we had a British Champion - is this the year?'
Does Boris go to the American Open?? Cause, you know, I may get that Sky Sports channel and try to start college and watch tennis all at the same time for those 2 weeks if I know he is going to be there!

BBMs Mon 08-Jul-13 09:08:20

Good morning ladies! I am suffering the withdrawals symptoms already! sad
I was talking to my DH about getting Sky Sports for a trial run for the US Open grin
Back to reality... Doctor's appointments and cleaning the house sad first day without tennis... (Never asked how to do the tennis ball....)

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 09:08:27

Boris prefers under the stairs for some weird reason Clay

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 09:09:29

Write tennis in the [] bbm's Go on, do it now before it disappears!

ClayDavis Mon 08-Jul-13 09:10:36

I should apologise. I did mention flags, but it was tongue in cheek and supposed to be a bit light hearted.

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 09:16:07

Nope, clay you told them all to shut up with the arguing. Or was it chub? Either way - no apologies needed. As said earlier, you have been here for the tennis not the bloody Scot v British debate. There was a thread on that ages ago in chat I think it was, it should have stayed over there and not come on here, this was a tennis love thread not a debate over silly nationalities... You'd swear William Wallace was still alive!
Mind, if he looked at all like Mel Gibson did in that film, I would have been tempted to leave Boris grin

Alibabaandthe40nappies Mon 08-Jul-13 09:19:38

There is some danger of my children being fed proper meals at the table today grin

MirandaWest Mon 08-Jul-13 09:23:41

I've been doing my 🎾🎾 on the ipad with a double [[ and then using the emoji things.

Will try the [tennis way as well smile

ClayDavis Mon 08-Jul-13 09:25:29

I think it was chubb who said it and several other posters and I agreed. Anyway, when Heather wins something you can all share her victory because she is British. And if you see me jumping up and down with a Guernsey flag, it's not about nationalism its because it's the only one I have.

They'll get 3 days of proper meals before the Ashes then, Ali.

Raahh Mon 08-Jul-13 09:27:58

Well- that was a mistake- I let dd2 walk to the shops. She's 3 in September, but didn't walk til she was 2. I knew she would get tired and I would end up carrying her, but I still let her do it. God knows how these slebs lug their offspring about til they are teenagersgrin- mind, she's pretty big and i'm a shortarse...I'm exhausted already.

I feel pretty teary all of a sudden. (post-tennis blues disorder/pre-menstrual).

Alibabaandthe40nappies Mon 08-Jul-13 09:32:02

Raahh - because they are walking about 50 yards from expensive shop/restaurant to chauffeur driven car. So they can carry their giant toddlers while staggering along in 5 inch heels grin

Clay - I can get Sky on the TV in my kitchen, just not the Beeb. DH has rigged it up somehow - all perfectly legit, it is via their Sky Go thing which is for iPads, laptops etc. So we will not starve for 5 days every fortnight while there is a test on!!

Raahh Mon 08-Jul-13 09:32:29

I haven't got any flagssad

my neighbour has a flag pole in his garden- he alternates Union flag with a St George cross depending on what is happening in the world. Last summer it got a lot of use, and started to look a bit tattygrin

Bet there are some hangovers around todaygrin

Raahh Mon 08-Jul-13 09:34:43

Ali truegrin

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 09:49:19

On Potato and Djok day, I won a Tv on Ebay for 20.00. It was local pick up. So I hoffed off to get it after ladies finals day (ladie's rofl). This is a nice Tv, big with surround sound and all. I got it and brought it in and sat it on floor and ignored it because I did not want to rig it all up as men's final was on the next day - did not want to mess with the sky box and wires and so forth before that, God forbid I broke something shock I also was worried it was naff and didn't work given the price I got it for. Have been looking at it ever since it got here and wondering... I set it all up just now - it works! This means dd and partner will have a Tv in their flat with freeview on it cause I can give them our one. 20.00!! Reckon I must have got it without any other bids because everybody, at the time, was watching the Potato match. As was I but bidding on my phone.
I am a very good mother - I will be popular with dd now, imagine a baby up half the night and you have no Tv? Now she has a Tv.
<<hoping this one does not conk out in three days time>>

Raahh Mon 08-Jul-13 09:55:43

wow! that's a bargain sieze- fingers crossed it keeps going!

Chubfuddler Mon 08-Jul-13 09:55:57

Well just to put this to rest if Andy Murray isn't a British tennis player, someone forgot to tell him about it. Because it appears he considers himself to be British:

“No, I didn’t always feel this day was going to happen,” he said afterwards, his voice still tremulous with incredulity. “It’s incredibly difficult to win these events. It takes so much hard work and mental toughness. And it’s really hard to be the standard-bearer of British tennis at Wimbledon. Very tough, very stressful, a lot of pressure. It’s everywhere you go because of how big this event is, but also because of the history and no Brit having won. I think now it will become easier. I hope it will.

BBMs Mon 08-Jul-13 09:59:17

Thank you Sieze! tennis tennis tennis tennis tennis yay! tennis tennis tennis tennis

Of course he does! I am British, but also a proud Scot. Sieze is welsh/French and British. Regionality (opposed to nationality) is a strong part of your identity. Murray is Scottish and British, the two aren't mutually exclusive.

A good example of this is the Great British Menu. Heats are in regions, Final's cover the whole of the uk.

I can't wait until the commonwealth games next year! Then we can actually cheer on Scotland's Andy Murray. wink

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 10:17:45

siezethenight Mon 08-Jul-13 10:18:40

And I would be German also if I could only really, really get Boris in a Broom Cupboard for 3 minutes - he's never look back grin

If that's all it takes to claim some sort of nationality, I've a bit of many nations in me! Aussie, American, Swiss, Finnish .....
I shall stop there before you think am I floozie

Stila Mon 08-Jul-13 10:22:29

Awww look at you lot still hanging around the tennis thread .
(Red button channels are still showing both finals)

I don't know about Andy but I was bloody shattered last night , went for a shower about 8ish , lay on the bed and suddenly it was nearly 11pm!

To celebrate his win I hunted out my slightly blurry (I was excited!) photo of Ivan Lendl in his Snoopy sweatshirt from Wimbledon '86
