Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 07:10:54

And it's a 2 pm start, not 1 as I thought.

Quite looking forward to it really, and I think Lipsticki will have the crowd on her side but Bartoli had made a lot of new fans.

Dh has decided we are having a barbequehmm. Last time he did that, he invited his brother over during the final of the French! shock.

There are doubles finals too- will post order of play when not stuck on my phone.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 07:12:46

Sorry about the erroneous aoistrophe[ blush] in the title.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 07:19:26

Bloody hell- apostrophe. I hate mn- ing on my phone!

middleagedspread Sat 06-Jul-13 07:23:03

Lipsticki gets my vote, she seems so lovely. And thrilled & humbled to be in the final.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 07:27:44

Present and correct - and sober!
Apologies for elder dd's hijacking of thread whenever my back was turned yesterday but a convert to Mn is born and as she will be a mum herself in 5 weeks? She's in I suppose.
Been up since 5.30 to get work together to email off. Have to drop dd younger at Swansea Uni this morning as she is there till 6pm on a drama practice for her play later this month then off to meet dd elder's new landlady - with flowers - did I mention I am happy to see them move out smile then it will be home and tennis. And a long ponder about what I can spare from home to give to dd for her new flat so it won't look so sparse when they move in 3 weeks and 6 days time...
Thanks for the shiny new thread raahh and I am off to the shower.

MirandaWest Sat 06-Jul-13 07:31:27

I am going to be out with my bf this afternoon shock as long as we use the rug doctor successfully on my carpets this morning.

I said that there was Wimbledon. He is not a tennis fan. And told me I could listen to radio 5 in the car. This is not quite the same....

Forecast is for hot today and tomorrow is hotter.

MirandaWest Sat 06-Jul-13 07:35:32

Why have I been awake over an hour when I am the only human in the house? Over excitement about Wimbledon maybe?

I went once and loved it smile Due to the work I do that is always the same time of year my chances of going again are minimal sad

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 07:36:24

Mirandashock

Some people have no idea[ grin] .

If I'd scheduled a knees up during a football match, dh would have kittens. grin

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 07:38:37

Miranda- I've been up ages too- mainly due to dd2 waking several times. The suspicious looking spot seems to have gone though.

At one point, she was having a conversation with me about my knickers being twistedconfused.

Turns out, she meant necklacegrin

middleagedspread Sat 06-Jul-13 07:40:24

DH suggested I might like to mow the lawn this afternoon.
doesn't he know my spot on the sofa is waiting for me?
As if.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 07:47:13

And I've not forgotten the doubles- always good to watch, some brilliant finals in the past- usually involving the Woodies. I loved the Woodies!

Hello, I might be around today if I can convince dh he needs quality alone time with ds

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 08:08:05

Weather is a bit skewif here badkitten Think it may be coastal fog but its dank and dull and no breeze about to push it on through. I can't see the river from my bedroom and normally, I can. Its gone as has the bridge as have the houses by the bridge. It looks as if, any minute now, it could drizzle - a lot. Got a wash on as well, bugger it.

It's cos the sea temps are lower than they ought to be sieze. If you are in the SW it could be a bit of a continued feature through this warm spell. In the east it should sort itself out over the next couple of days hopefully.

diddl Sat 06-Jul-13 08:36:15

Haven't watched any women's matches this year.

Might tune into this one.

I'm in Germany-perhaps I'll be able to tell how well Lisicki is doing by sitting outside & listening for cheers!

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 08:44:15

diddl- I really think this could be a good match- I've been really impressed with Lisicki, not least that the has been able to follow up beating Serena with equally good performances.

But I'm developing a soft spot for Bartoli- yes, she looks scary and cross when she's playing, and her style of play is not the most traditional, but she doesn't give up. And she's her own worst critic, I think.

I haven't looked forward to a women's final this much in years. tennistennis

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 08:46:17

Bright and sunny down here in the SW this morning. You're right about it going to be a hot one today.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 08:46:32

And I offer up my first-born to the first commentator to say:

'there will be a new name on the famous Venus Rosewater Dish tonight!'

because you just know someone will say it!

Maryz Sat 06-Jul-13 09:02:48

[arf] at title. Have you reported yourself yet?

I did an apostrophe boob on a thread title once, and Olivia changed it for me before anyone noticed.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 09:45:33

Maryz- I haveblushgrin

but no-one has changed it! Can everyone else report me for crimes against grammar- the stress everytime i see it is unbearable.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 09:52:01

badkitten Yes, South West Wales but fog is lifting now, its getting brighter - clothes will dry today!
Just had a horrible drive - taking dd to her drama thing and there is a main road that is surrounded by farmland where cows cross over regularly. We rounded corner, in the fog and mist and were greeted by lots of flashing blue lights. Ambulances, fire engines, police, but no police to turn us cars around, have to guess they were dealing with whatever had happened. I dread to think what has happened there, if the cows were hit, if there was a huge crash but far too many emergency vehicles for this to be a small thing. Gave me shivers. We went up through the farm lanes instead, got out the other end of it all and an old woman had collapsed on street up there and had an ambulance and one of those first responder things - crikey, some people have had a lousy Saturday already. Glad to be home safely really. May walk down to dd's flat to meet landlady. I hate coming across accidents. There for the Grace of God and all that...

Maryz Sat 06-Jul-13 10:04:07

I have done, Raah.

I begged and offered Pimms and strawberries.

I hope it wasn't as bad as you think sieze - here's hoping everyone is ok.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 10:07:13

thanks Mary- it's a discussion of the day- so someone has seen it <narrows eyes>

grin

tennistennistennis

Maryz Sat 06-Jul-13 10:10:43

Oh, how horrible of them shock

To link a typo, you should crawl into a hole and cover your face for the day.

<sniggers childishly>

Anyhow, off to watch the lions being slaughtered - I'm taking dd and ds2 who don't know whether to cheer for the lions or Australia. All of Ireland is a tad pissed off about the selection.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 10:11:57

grin

Enjoy!

Witt Sat 06-Jul-13 10:20:15

I will have to follow the match on this thread and radio 5 as we'll be halfway up the M40 at 2pm sad

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 10:29:32

Report me witt!- they've still not edited the title <meanies><cries> sad

Witt Sat 06-Jul-13 10:31:23

I've reported you Raahh you naughty girl!

Murraytowin Sat 06-Jul-13 10:35:39

Another try in case this got missed at the end of the old thread...anyone else going tomorrow and does anyone have a view on what time we need to get there to bag a place on Murray Mount? Or Mound or whatever it's called!

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 10:49:21

Henman Hillgrin

No idea- but if just getting onto any courts is anything to go by, I'd say as early as possible (and wouldn't be surprised if people were camping out already).

is it mumblechum who is going today?envy. Gorgeous day for it.

Have decided to splash out on some fake Aldi Pimmsgrin

Witt Sat 06-Jul-13 10:51:46

It's called Henman Hill angry

Witt Sat 06-Jul-13 11:03:28

I should be packing <sigh>

Witt Sat 06-Jul-13 11:41:48

Why is noone around to distract me?

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 11:50:57

grin

HesterShaw Sat 06-Jul-13 11:59:34

Come on Marion!

Because no else supports her and she is enjoyably bonkers.

HesterShaw Sat 06-Jul-13 11:59:49

Apart from the French, obviously.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 12:03:19

Now murraytowin I like your wording another try in case this got missed on old thread - anybody else going tomorrow? I am going to tomorrow and you are all not - suckers... grin
Please - if you see Boris Becker can you get him to sign something for me? Not your boobs though cause that means I can't have the actual autograph.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 12:04:13

Hester I am starting to like her- she is bonkers, but seems genuinely nice. I will be happy for whoever wins-I hope it is a good match. Bartoli wasn't exactly pushed against Flipkens, but I've no doubt she'll rise to the challenge of a very competitive match.

HesterShaw Sat 06-Jul-13 12:08:08

Hurrah - another Marion supporter!

Actually, I just want a good final. I'm sure it will be.

Alibabaandthe40nappies Sat 06-Jul-13 12:18:24

Ladies I will of course be joining you, but at the moment I'm watching the rugby and it is v.stressful.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 12:22:09

Hester-I'm reasonably confident it won't be a one-sided affair, which has happened too often in the past.

But then, this has been a strange tournament....grin

I'm also not sure how much I'll see. Dh wants to do the bbq around 1.30hmm

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 12:22:56

I like Marion! I think she's nice. I like Lipsticky as well though and want her to win but I would not be unhappy if Marion won.
Just want a good final match and no more of that Bartoli whacks to win stuff. It was a bit dull in the semi's.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 12:23:38

They are never going to amend the typo in the title, are they? sad

It's because I'm not a Murray fan, isn't it? MNHQ are making me suffersadgrin

tennis

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 12:25:23

Tell him to do the BBQ, and then he can bring you your food when it's ready.

Why is that apostrophe still there?

bizzey Sat 06-Jul-13 12:27:51

Oh found you !!! Posted on wrong thread last night ....to say thank you for the updates and sorry my messages were impolite ..but first time I messaged from the stupid phone and I was going cross eyed !!!!!!

On lap top today ...so no headache !! grin

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 12:40:11

I think you better name change raahh else you'll forever be the person who put the ' in ladies... Tut... grin

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:17:14

sad

grin

I'll blame my phone, and say I was drunk at 7am

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:18:12

Right- bbq prep -done! I have now abdicated all responsibility for it- and they can bring me my fish kebabs when they are cookedgrin

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 13:28:30

Signing in! Afternoon all.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 13:31:01

Afternoon farley do you have a hangover?

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 13:31:19

Afternoon - been getting some sun and doing some reading (other than MN threads)
Totally abandoned 2nd Semi thread - as I didn't think Jerzy deserved the insults , but I seem to remember last years final thread being a bit hmm as someone put it ,a fine line between patriotic and being a twat .

Anyhow today I am edging towards Lipstick but then Bartoli was super cute n giggly when she takes her 'face' off. I'll be happy for either .

Sieze seems I'm originally (Mum still there) from the same part of the world(ish) as you .

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 13:32:08

Sue Barker looks much better with slightly longer hair.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:32:28

Bingo!! Sue has mentioned a new name joining the list.

packs off ds to live with Ms Barker

grin

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 13:32:53

Martina is looking better and better as she ages

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 13:33:29

No seize, am too seasoned a gin drinker I think blush. Do you?

I'll be happy for either of them to win but am, of course, supporting Bartoli. Cause she's lovely. And French. A good potential role model for my daughters.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:35:47

Stila- i was very close to abandoning it too- a lot of the comments were totally unnecessary. Fine- support the Brit, but no need to be rude about someone you really know nothing all about. And have no interest in finding out. It spoiled the 'atmosphere' of what have so far been good threads. Brought back memories of Wimbledon threads of oldsad

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 13:36:14

Tomorrow's final might be what you hoped for Sue, but it's not what I hoped for

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:36:18

Petite grin- looking forward to it immensely.

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 13:37:52

Be a shame to let yesterday's thread spoil what has been a fortnight of absolutely lovely banter, with no hard feelings and lots of humour and sympathy and tennis talk.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:38:42

me neither Farley- but let's face it, the commentary team had handed Murray the trophy as soon as Nadal and Federer went out.

Oh shut up about the roof. It was the right decision- if it hadn' been Murray playing, no-one would be complaining. They did it at a natural break, at the end of a set. End of discussiongrin

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 13:38:53

Gosh isn't Tracy tiny?

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 13:39:11

Not height wise, size wise.

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 13:41:48

Raahh even though most were supporting Potato in the first match nobody was hurling insults at Djok .

I don't know if I missed it somewhere but did they ever show Potato's post match interview?

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 13:44:02

I don't think they did, Stila.

Agree about the second thread yesterday. Hopefully that won't happen again tomorrow. Want Lipsticki to win, but think Bartoli might.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:44:37

Stila- That's it, precisely.

I don't think they did show his interview, they showed Djok during roof-gate, and even that was cut short. And he was very lovely about Mr Potato.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:45:36

Tracy is tiny.

Is it cold at Wimbledon- Tracy appears to be shivering.

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 13:46:12

No I don't think they showed it Stila, I was looking out for it! If anyone sees/finds it anywhere will you shout out?

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 13:46:38

Hopefully they will show it after they've done with the final , before the doubles.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:49:37

Clay- I'm hoping that there will be a more balanced crowd watching it, and I think Djoko has plenty of fans, so it should be. I'm not going to be hypocritical and start being his biggest fan over night, but the horrible bias yesterday put me off Murray even more. And reminded me why I enjoyed the French so much- he wasn't there. The commentators had no choice but to care about other players. and Nadal won grin

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 13:50:09

It's not cold here and I'm only thirty miles away. In fact it's lovely.

How many times will quirky be used to describe Bartoli?

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:51:16

Tracy needs meat on her bones, then...she looks frozenconfused

I hope Bartoli wears a white headband- but maybe the grubby one is luckygrin

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:52:07

How soon can i open the Aldi Pimms?

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 13:53:03

I think its just a breeze trapped within the court - its not as big a space as it looks on the tv .

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:53:07

She has lovely hairenvy

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 13:54:03

Was talking more about the thread than the match, but I suppose the same applies. I think it will help that the match will be earlier but there will still be a lot of support for Murray tomorrow.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:54:03

no- I know Stila- i was shocked when I went. And the statue of Fred Perry, which always looked life size when they showed it on tv, is titchy!

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:54:38

Clay- hopefully. And yes, the thread just got nastysad

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:55:17

she's a quirky character.

Really. grin

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 13:55:33

Dont like shape of Sue's jacket.

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 13:55:40

You can open the Pimms now. You need to have the first one poured and in your hand as the match starts.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:57:01

Sue has worn some bizarre things all week.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 13:57:16

I enjoyed the threads yesterday, both of them. It was a long day, by 9pm I think most people were tired, frustrated with the roof business and had had a couple of drinks.
Best left there really and lets look onto this match today.
Both ladies have lovely personalities in interviews. I believe Bartoli is a machine! She's like Arnie just far prettier... Am rooting for Lipsticky though as have done throughout this one.
Stila In Swansea. Is your mum here then? Farley is from here also.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 13:57:17

I'm off to the kitchen....

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 13:57:51

Raahh have you visited the museum out of tournament ? You can go onto centre and it seems even smaller when there are no people .

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 13:59:03

Sieze I said 'ish' ...... Skewen

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:00:44

stilaNo-I'd love the chance to go back. One day, I will!

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 14:02:03

Okay - sorry...

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:03:14

Shut up about the bloody roof!!

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:03:56

Yes Sue, listen to John, it's ancient history about the bloomin roof.

Hi Stila, another one of us welshies!

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 14:04:13

Was there an issue with the roof? Why didn't somebody mention it?

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 14:05:05

OOps Sieze I sounded harsh there .....Its not Swansea , or Neath really but does have fabulous ice cream grin

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:06:12

Aren't they supposed to kick off (as it were) at 2pm?

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:06:17

Clay it's a bit like Tomic's dad- no-one ever talks about it. Funnyhmm

grin

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 14:08:44

clay grin
'tis okay stila too much Bud last night, have raging headache. It can get very territorial around here - you dare say to somebody from Llanelli if they are from Swansea and its hunker down and mind the missiles! smile

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:09:15

Umpire is attractive!

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:09:58

How did the landlady like the flowers seize?

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 14:11:06

Here we go. Come on Lipsticky.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 14:12:29

I wonder how long it takes Bartoli to psych up for these matches cause she goes from pussycat to lioness. Imagine having that switch in your brain to flick as and when you need it. Blimey.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:12:33

Bugger. We are using disposable bbq's - extensive research showed usthat Aldi one's were rubbish. It appears so are tesco ones. Dh has just gone to Asda, aswe know they are ok.

could probably have bought a gas one on what we have spent on disposables

Right- don't get nervy, Marion. We want a good match!

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:14:39

Yes seize, she even looks different doesn't she? Or is that just my dodgy eyes!

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 14:14:54

Landlady is lovely, from Dorset she said, twin girls age 1. Saw photo's an all, super cute. Working hard getting flat ready for dd... Glad I went to meet her as she is a really lovely woman. Dd, partner and baby will be safe there and I am reassured now that their landlady is decent smile

Ouch. This is already painful to watch.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 14:15:50

No! No, she looks like an entirely different person when she is on court. I wish I had learned how to do that when my dc's were little, handy trick.

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:16:11

Oh that's good news seize. Is it near enough for you to drop in often and be doting grandma?!

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:16:23

Ohsad

Don't panic Bartoli!

C'mon Lipsticki!

<torn>

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:17:09

That's better.

claig Sat 06-Jul-13 14:17:55

I don't mid who wins because I like them both, but think Barto will win as she is usually more consistent and makes fewer errors

Phew. Good. Let's start over.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 14:19:33

farley five mins in car and entirely walkable if I am not feeling too lazy. My mother lives closer, literally 5 min walk away smile

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:19:50

petite- i thought the same!

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:20:26

that's good sieze- out of your house- but not too far away!

hugoagogo Sat 06-Jul-13 14:20:54

I am here and I am sober, it was a bit of a marathon yesterday and wine did not help.

Anyway- I have been a fan of lisicki for a few years, but now it comes to it I won't be too disappointed if Bartoli wins as she seems nice.

I can actually enjoy the tennis I hope and not get too stressed out.

piprabbit Sat 06-Jul-13 14:22:51

Why does Bartoli look like the zip on the back of her thigh has come undone?

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:23:15

hugo- it's a nice way to watch, isn't it?

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 14:23:58

Oh yes, out of my house is the key to all this grin I will have a spare room now to set up my massage business after qualifying - hurrah! HURRAH! Can still be home with ds as he needs me here when he is not in college and can finally, in 12 months time make more than a part time living. The relief? I can't tell you. I just can't leave ds home on his own, he panics and worries. Now I know everybody is okay, all of them, ds, dd and baby and also, myself!

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:25:14

Brilliant seize, good luck to you all smile

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:25:53

that's brilliant sieze- have some wine<- pimms

We're having a bbq with friends tonight. Normally I'd be preparing and marinading and doing salad dressings round about now. As it is it's finals day so I sent DH out this morning to buy everything ready prepared.

Feels very good not having anything to do.

Shall do more lazy entertaining in the future.

Yay. Well done Bartoli.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 14:27:51

I just can't get past her split personality! Its doing my head in. If I had not seen her in interviews off court I would not like her on court as she's just so, take no prisoners, pump the air after each shot, I am going to beat you dowwwwnnnn....

Chubfuddler Sat 06-Jul-13 14:28:55

Completely torn. Like them both. I think bartoli will have the edge though.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:29:45

lazy entertaining is the future....

oh. This isn't as close as I'd like really.

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:30:26

The blonde sitting next to Marion's dad has a very low cut top on!

Petite, lazy entertaining is the way to go! Is it nice weather over there?

claig Sat 06-Jul-13 14:30:35

Barto is a real fighter. Her father, the doctor, is in the house. It will be one hell of a triumph for him and his training and coaching of Marion if Barto does win.

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:30:45

Oh Raahh, there we go again with the x posting!

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:31:26

grin Farley

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:31:41

Lisicki's father is a doctor too isn't he?

Alibabaandthe40nappies Sat 06-Jul-13 14:32:38

That's better - it will be such a shame if this is a walkover.

claig Sat 06-Jul-13 14:33:04

Yes, Lisicki's father is a doctor too. I think Barto's father gave up his practice to devote his time to coaching her.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:33:11

Go Lipsticki!

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:34:25

Oh dear, is this nerves?

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 14:35:28

I though this match would be a lot closer than this. It could be over very quickly at this rate.

BBMs Sat 06-Jul-13 14:35:36

Hi ladies! Late to the party today... Came for lunch to my friend's house and I'm now seating watching tennis grin

Where's Lisicki??!!

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:36:16

Umpire sounds like she's calling Lisicki "Miss Lizzy"!

Quiet for a women's match isn't it? Normally I have the sound down so I can't hear the grunting.

Yes, lovely weather here. Windows open and shutters half closed to try and keep the house cool. Back door open. Unfortunately next door but one is a field full of cows in labour (probably just one cow in labour but she's been at it for hours) and the cows are drowning out the tennis. Them and the 50000 flies buzzing round.

hugoagogo Sat 06-Jul-13 14:36:37

Oh Lipsticki give yersel a shake!

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:37:09

Another reason to like these two, no shriekinggrin

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:38:12

That sounds idyllic Petite, next door but one here is a grumpy couple who don't like dc! Hope the cow will be ok.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:39:30

Petite - poor cowgrin

reminds me of visiting a friend who lived on a dairy farm (Pembrokeshire, sticking with the Welsh theme)- they had a tv in the kitchen that showed the cow stalls, and the cows giving birth. Put me off my breakfast, a bitgrin

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:39:49

Lisicki looks really upset sad

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:40:19

Oh, gehen sie Lipsticki!!

(is that right?)

Wow this is not what I expected after that first game.

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 14:41:18

Well that was a bit one sided.

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 14:41:27

Hopefully she will give herself a talking to ( or maybe she'll get one from players box) and we'll get 3 sets ......fingers crossed !

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:41:34

Oh- that was rather quick.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:42:28

petite- I really thought this would be tighter.

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 14:43:52

This match might be a bit disappointing. Which is a shame.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:45:17

She looks on the verge of tearssad

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 14:46:24

Come on Lisicki.

Alibabaandthe40nappies Sat 06-Jul-13 14:46:32

Raahh that would be a bit over formal - gehst du Lipsticki is better.

Please let her hold this service game!

claig Sat 06-Jul-13 14:47:20

The game really revolves around menatl toughness and capacity and Lisicki often plays better when she is behind and is the underdog and when the mental pressure of being favourite is lifted from her, so she may play more fluently and confidently now, but she is up against Barto who is a mental machine and uses the Bartoli Bop to remain mentally focused, so I think Barto will still win out in the end.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:48:20

C'mon Lisicki- that's better!

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:48:40

Thanks, Ali

Missbopeep Sat 06-Jul-13 14:51:06

Can anyone tell me why the audience now slow handclaps the use of Hawkeye? Is that what they are doing?

It seems terribly rude- and Hawkeye is so much better than the rants we used to get from McEnroe.

claig Sat 06-Jul-13 14:52:50

I am not sure, but I don't think the slow handcaps are negative, they are just to increase the drama and excitement of the verdict.

Diamondcassis Sat 06-Jul-13 14:53:21

It's weltering there, must faze them a bit. Lipstiki looks so pretty, needs to machine-up a bit

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:54:08

Right- we need a 3 setter!

Missbopeep Sat 06-Jul-13 14:54:56

The slow handclaps are something relatively new- I started watching Wimbers in 1973 and the audience used to be dead quiet even during Macs outbursts- this slow clapping gets on my nerves.

Diamondcassis Sat 06-Jul-13 14:55:11

Sweltering ...
Yes hanclaps are just in anticipation

Alibabaandthe40nappies Sat 06-Jul-13 14:55:48

I don't think they are negative, it is just to build the excitement. They do the same with pending decisions on wickets at the cricket.

Officially it was 25.6C at 2pm but I think it will have climbed another degree or so and of course it's a complete sun trap in there.

Melawen Sat 06-Jul-13 14:57:20

Surely someone in the audience is going to keel over with sunstroke! It look SO hot there.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 14:58:09

Is it going to be hotter tomorrow? Wonder who copes better with heat?

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 14:58:28

The slow hand claps are done at different points in several sport to build excitement. It's definitely not a negative thing or meant to be rude.

Genius point!

It is going to be 2-3c hotter tomorrow because the day will be starting cloudless and temps will climb faster. I think it will top 30C.

I think Murray trains quite often in Florida partly to build up resistance to the heat.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:02:32

I loved McEnroes rants.

NoComet Sat 06-Jul-13 15:03:41

I'm not liking this. DD2 will be grumpy, I prefer DD2 not to be grumpy.

I'd like a decent match to watch, this is too one sided.

I'm watching, but also knitting so posting is difficult! Bartholi is playing lipsticks out of the park!

Oybbk your attention is on here, what's the weather like for tomorrow just west of Edinburgh? Neighbours just invited us to BBQ to watch tennis. I don't want to go, dh thinks we should. I'm hoping for rain, but today is scorchio!

Diamondcassis Sat 06-Jul-13 15:07:00

The shortest ever final was 23 mins!

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:09:49

I really hate upset people when I can't make it better. And she looks so upset.

Oh she's crying sad

Chubfuddler Sat 06-Jul-13 15:10:49

Is lipstick crying? Poor lipstick.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:11:21

Oh God - I have to go hug her.

Glaikit, a little cooler and cloudier than today.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:11:46

Oh,poor lamb. Is she crying?

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 15:12:12

sad she is really struggling to hold the tears back

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:12:28

She's done so well this tournament- go girl!!

BBMs Sat 06-Jul-13 15:12:28

Poor Sabine :'(

Chubfuddler Sat 06-Jul-13 15:12:29

I hope her mum is a hugger. She doesn't look very huggy.

No rain? Damn! Thank you! grin

They need to get more fluid into them I reckon. They both look melted but especially lisicki.

SelectAUserName Sat 06-Jul-13 15:13:31

Oh poor Lisicki sad

I'd love to see her win this game at least. She has been so upbeat and bubbly about getting to the final and it's such a shame to think she's going to lose at least in part because she's overwhelmed and her game (and especially her serve) has fallen apart, rather than because Bartoli is playing brilliantly.

Chubfuddler Sat 06-Jul-13 15:13:58

Poor lipstick. I really feel for her. The disappointment must be crushing.

SelectAUserName Sat 06-Jul-13 15:14:04

Too slow typing sad

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:14:24

I can't watch this. I just want to go and give her a big big hug.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:14:32

Where's Boris? Boris and Lipsticky get on great. Send Boris down to give her a bug German hug. Please.

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:15:08

If I was her now, I'd just want to get off there and go home. sad

Chubfuddler Sat 06-Jul-13 15:15:34

Yes her game has collapsed like it did in the second set if the radeanska game. Only I don't think she's going to pull this back.

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 15:16:01

I think that thought's going through her head right now, Farley.

Poor Lipsticki.

hugoagogo Sat 06-Jul-13 15:16:29

I can't watch sad

Her mum looks Really upset for her. I reckon she will give her hugs.

Allez Marion.

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:17:21

Feel a bit sorry for Bartoli too, everyone too busy feeling sorry for Lisicki to appreciate her good play

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 15:17:24

This might be it then. She needs to hold her serve here.

Chubfuddler Sat 06-Jul-13 15:17:51

It's sweltering on that court

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:17:55

Could all be over soon.sad

Franke Sat 06-Jul-13 15:18:28

Bartoli deserves this.

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 15:18:43

Championship point.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:19:07

Farley- true, it will be seen that Lipsticki lost it,rather than Bartoli won. Iyswim.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:19:34

Bartoli is very sweet off court, she'll be feeling for Lipsticky after the game. Hope she is lovely to her as and when she wins...
Hope Lispticky does not collapse as and when she looses.
Else I will be crying too....

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:19:56

She does Franke- but it's a shame to see Lipstick fall apart.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:20:30

She gave Flipkens a big hug at the end of that massacre.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:20:33

Ahhh, I love Lipsticky!

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:21:01

God what her mother must be going through. Can you imagine if that was your daughter breaking up with the eyes of the world on you? You'd want to run on court and protect her from it all.

Bartoli has played brilliantly.

Don t want lipsticky to cry. She's done a fab job getting here.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:21:54

yay!

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:22:26

What's the name of the one that lost that year and cried all over the Duchess person? That did me in, I was howling. Can feel a repeat. My Ds will kill me. He will. he will properly tell me off for being such a wuss.

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:22:57

Jana Novotna

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:23:01

Novotna.

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 15:23:20

Jana Novotna - she's in royal box today

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:23:22

x-posts agogo, Farley

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:23:31

Bartoli is playing great petite yes. Not to take away from her at all.

SelectAUserName Sat 06-Jul-13 15:23:59

Who is, or was Bartoli's coach, koinkidentally.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:24:17

That's the one! She's there now, isn't she?

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:24:20

Yeah Raahh sad

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:24:35

Oops that was meant to be a smile.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:25:20

Sorry stila am watching and typing blush

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:26:13

Bloody hell.

Diamondcassis Sat 06-Jul-13 15:26:22

Come on!!

Chubfuddler Sat 06-Jul-13 15:26:22

Or maybe she is.

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 15:26:41

Hello. Lipsticki turned up.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:27:03

3 sets! 3 sets!

claig Sat 06-Jul-13 15:27:23

I think Amelie Mauresmo is now Bartoli's coach

Chubfuddler Sat 06-Jul-13 15:28:12

Blimey

NigellasGuest Sat 06-Jul-13 15:29:11

COME ON LISPICKI!!

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:29:11

Is it too late? Can she take it to three sets?

SelectAUserName Sat 06-Jul-13 15:29:47

Good girl, she's making a fight of it now.

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 15:29:55

We have a match on our hands. Come on Lipsticki!!!

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:30:19

She was crying Lindsay, weren't you watching?

Her coach was her dad. Mauresmo is Fed team captain. Not sure who is coaching Bartoli now. DH thinks it's more of a team coaching effort with Mauresmo as off court mentor and the bloke she practices with.

Diamondcassis Sat 06-Jul-13 15:30:30

Why do they keep saying she was abiut to cry? She was WEEPING

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:32:30

I'm glad Lisicki has had a fight back.

Awwwwwww

claig Sat 06-Jul-13 15:34:06

Bartoli is the deserved champion and it is a testament to all the hard work she has put in over the years. This may be the start of many more titles for her, because she has the spirit, the shots and the serve to do it.

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 15:34:27

Well played Bartoli.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:34:31

Well done Bartoli, but sad that Lipsticki didn't really do herself justice.

I hate the climbing up the box thing. Bloody Pat Cash. angry

NoComet Sat 06-Jul-13 15:34:41

To little too late, Sabine
Well done, Bartoli

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:34:46

Bartoli - I salute you.
Lipsticky - I love you.
Aww, bless her. This is not nice, Happy for one, devastated for the other. Urgh...

They are both lovely and she looks so happy smile

SelectAUserName Sat 06-Jul-13 15:35:00

Wouldn't you think that by now they would put some steps up to the family / coaches' box?

Congratulations to Marion, she held it together better on the day. Compensation for her previous defeat.

Commiserations to Sabine, hopefully she will have another chance in the future and can learn from today's experience.

Poor lisicki.

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 15:35:56

Well done Bartoli grin
( #awkward ! low cut top woman snubbed as she heads in for hug )

Bittersweet isn't it. Wish they both could have won.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:36:21

Poor us - only one more day to go. Utterly, utterly depressed.

middleagedspread Sat 06-Jul-13 15:36:23

Poor Lisiki, she's trying to hold it together. I'd be blabbing & snotting.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:36:32

Poor Lipsticki sad

She's so upset. But she's had a great run- most didn't think she'd get past Serena.

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 15:37:00

Awww the Duchess of Kent would have given her a huge hug

NigellasGuest Sat 06-Jul-13 15:37:17

she still gets a tray though

whalewail Sat 06-Jul-13 15:37:27

Poor Sabine. Proper tears sad

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:38:03

This is so hard for the loser, I always think.

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 15:38:29

The cheering is only going to make her cry more ..... it would me

SelectAUserName Sat 06-Jul-13 15:38:48

I always feel so sorry for the losing finalists. The losers of every other match get to scurry off court and lick their wounds in private; the losing finalists have to stand about looking gracious and magnanimous in defeat and try not to cry in front of thousands of people.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:38:54

Very gracious in defeat... I have got tissues sad

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:39:04

Oh- the bloody interview. Leave her alone. Speak to her later.

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:39:09

Oh bless, why do they have to put her through this.

<crying>

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:39:29

Raah - this is getting silly!

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:39:58

How is her mother not bawling??

SelectAUserName Sat 06-Jul-13 15:40:08

Lordy I'm in floods here now. Poor Sabine.

whalewail Sat 06-Jul-13 15:40:28

Poor poppet

diddl Sat 06-Jul-13 15:40:34

Aww!

You just want them both to have won!

hugoagogo Sat 06-Jul-13 15:41:14

how come I am crying and lisicki's mum isn't?

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:41:25

Oh, she is properly upsetsad
I'm crying now.

(don't care how over-involved I amgrin)

Oh, Marion, she is lovely.

SelectAUserName Sat 06-Jul-13 15:41:28

Aww it's so lovely when they're genuinely nice to each other.

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 15:41:51

<sobs>
<grabs tissues>

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:42:07

We are like twins Farley !

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:43:02

awww! She's fab.

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:43:31

I bet I'm the oldest twin Raahh. I may have a tear in my eye too.

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 15:43:55

Is Billie Jean crying along with us ?

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:44:23

grin

BJK looks like she's crying too.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:44:29

I might have to have an emotional recharging nap now...

diddl Sat 06-Jul-13 15:44:35

Yes, I thought that BJK was crying as well.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:44:43

that wasn't meant to be a grin!

It's jana navotna who is coaching bartoli now.

claig Sat 06-Jul-13 15:46:18

Thanks, Glaik, I haven't been keeping up, I didn't realise Novotna was Bartoli's coach

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:47:27

Is Marion's mother not around?

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:48:48

Is that so she doesn't do a runner with the trophy?

diddl Sat 06-Jul-13 15:48:52

Jana Navotna-isn't she the one who sobbed on the Duchess of Kent when she was runner up in the final?

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:49:01

Aww that's lovely, the way they're walking off together.

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 15:49:10

I was reading earlier about her mother - rarely seen at tournaments and finds it too stressful watching her

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:49:56

I hate the ending of a single's final. Tomorrow will be even worse.

claig Sat 06-Jul-13 15:50:21

I think her mother gets too nervous watching her, so she doesn't go to many of the live matches

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:50:27

diddl yes,itwas.

Nice they are both signing autographs.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 15:50:49

I know farley am feeling it today.

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:50:50

Oh ok Stila, guess I can sort of understand that, but don't think I could miss a wimbledon final if my dd was in it!

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 15:51:21

nice little film

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:51:53

Farley- I hate hearing the theme tune at the very end. And the really long credits, and the montage they do. And then it's oversad

smile happy days. I hope France is kind to her. She's given a rough ride by the press here sad

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:52:48

S'horrid isn't it? Oh well, roll on US Open. Not the same though.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:55:35

I can't watch the US open, apart from the final ( if I stage awake).

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:56:04

Petite is she? That's sad.

I know it's spelt Sabine (Sa-been), but isn't it said Sa-been-uh?

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:57:17

Look at all those people- gorgeous day.

Wonder if mumblechum is still there. <waves>

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:57:36

Why Petite?

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:57:50

errrrmmmmm

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:57:56

Don't know diddl

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 15:58:17

I knew some on was there. Had forgotten who. envy

Have reported that post btw.

noddyholder Sat 06-Jul-13 15:58:32

Lisicki cried on court I think that is a bit spoilt. Love Bartoli

Fiderer Sat 06-Jul-13 15:58:34

diddl that's been annoying me too, unless she's the only German called Sabine who pronounces it differently!

You'd think Boris would have told them grin

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:58:42

And my thread title was never edited sad
grin

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 15:58:55

Shut up Tracy, if she could've helped it she wouldn't have cried I'm sure.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 15:59:31

Spoilt? hmm

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 16:00:06

Think MNHQ have been on the Pimms and are too busy to edit it, Raahh.

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 16:00:16

i would have cried too noddy (all supposing I could play tennis and was in a wimbledon final!), don't imagine she could stop herself really.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 16:01:04

I reported that post as well smile
How is is spoiled to cry noddy?

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 16:01:30

Clay- possiblygrin

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 16:02:18

If they delete that post-and don't edit my title I will be CROSS.

noddyholder Sat 06-Jul-13 16:02:47

Yes it seemed that instead of digging in and upping her game she cried when it wasn't going her way. I find all the grinning and x factor style sob stories a bit much. Coudn't take to her at all from the start

middleagedspread Sat 06-Jul-13 16:03:14

Tracy Austin is annoying me. Shut up.

NigellasGuest Sat 06-Jul-13 16:05:13

what has Sue had done to her face?

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 16:05:18

Oh well, got to tear myself away now and take ds to the park. See you all tomorrow for the last time <sob>. Thanks for today.

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 16:06:01

Oh I hoped they'd chuck in the Potato interview sad

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 16:06:47

Oh yes, me too Stila. Maybe it's on line somewhere, I'll have a look later. If you find it, will you post where it is please?

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 16:06:48

Gosh - bit harsh noddy It was finals at Wimbledon, center court - a lot of pressure and a lot of eyes upon her. And a lot of high emotions. And her first time in that sort of pressure situation.
I don't think spoiled is the right word for it at all. Spoiled would have been crashing down the racket, swearing, stomping about. Not being gracious in defeat. Plus, she smiled after the tears on court, to the crowd, for their support.

The Bryan twins! Love them!

noddyholder Sat 06-Jul-13 16:07:19

I agree with Tracy. She said before the kanepi match that she knew the crowd were all tree to see her. She thought she had it when she beat serena Too fakey smiley

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 16:07:49

Farley- have a good afternoon.

Am quite happy sat here with my fake pimms, ignoring everyone, and melting. grin

And at least the dcs have been fed todaygrin

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 16:08:38

Raahh You are just going to have to start a new thread tomorrow with proper grammar in it and hope this one goes way down the board to ignore-land grin

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 16:09:36

tah dah
(didn't take much hunting down )

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 16:10:11

Once a fortnight's, fine, Raahh, it's more important to keep their fluid intake up. grin.

Go Bryan Brothers.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 16:10:21

Enjoy the park farley
Not sure what to do here so doubles it is!

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 16:10:22

ooh- thanks Stila!

noddyholder Sat 06-Jul-13 16:10:54

There not tree. Lisicki will win loads anyway Bartoli probably won't. lisickis. Pr in overdrive atm

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 16:12:30

he's sooooo sweetgrin

Maryz Sat 06-Jul-13 16:13:37

Tee hee at the typo in the title.

She didn't want to hang out with the other players, they don't like her on court style, she's not media friendly or savvy, and she is often joked about as being fat and ugly hmm

Mauresmo also got a bad press for being out and proud back in the day. The French media are still very sexist and obsessed with appearances. Today's match was the first women's match to actually get masses of attention.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 16:14:22

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Maryz

just grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 16:16:31

<whispers>

Don't tell, Raahh, but that post's been deleted and the apostrophe in the title is still there.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 16:16:59

I remember when Mauresmo first appeared- there was a lot of comment on her appearance here too. That she looked very masculine. I get the impression probably from Bonsoir's posts <stereotype, muchgrin> that the French are very concerned by appearance. Which is really unfair. (and probably not true)grin

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 16:17:51

Clay- GITS!!!!

See, it's definitely because I'm not a Murray fan.

<weeps>
<in a non-spoilt manner>

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 16:19:09

And i called them gits. grin

I'm going to get banned, now, aren't I?

middleagedspread Sat 06-Jul-13 16:19:26

petite, that's so sad, I hope they can be proud of her.
I suggets she employs Murray's PR firm.

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 16:19:40

I think it's because it's spammed across the board, including the RIP Bernie Nolan thread. hmm

Stila Sat 06-Jul-13 16:20:42

Raahh he just looks so exhausted in that clip - but still manages a laugh

Petite well , hope that her win today comes as a poke in the eye to them .

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 16:20:48

Clay- that's awful. I hate spammers.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 16:27:59

The doubles isn't going to script either...

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 16:34:55

There's some bad mojo on centre court today.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 16:36:35

isn't there just.

There is a bit of a flat atmosphere, which is sad, it's the final.

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 16:45:07

You expect to see 6-1, 6-2 sets in grand slams. It's inevitable because players are meeting players that are ranked much higher than them. You don't expect to see it in the final. (Unless you're playing Serena maybe).

noddyholder Sat 06-Jul-13 16:48:11

Even though it is great to see new players come through I think a final and semis without a 'champion' is always a bit flat.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 16:48:31

I hate to see bagels in the final- and yes, in the absence of Serena, I hoped the last match would be tighter.

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 16:55:16

From the look of the last couple of games it could have been much tighter. Lisicki got completely overawed by the situation. She's relatively young and inexperienced and she'll learn from that but it didn't make a great match from a spectator's point of view.

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 17:44:02

My internet connection keeps dropping. I will be most upset if it happens tomorrow!

Maryz Sat 06-Jul-13 17:55:26

I have booked the tv, the sofa and the ipad for tomorrow. I shall be very upset if it's a walkover, or if the fecking crowd (and commentators) are too aggressively biassed.

Is it terrible to point out that the title should now say "Ladies' Singles" and is missing an apostrophe?

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 17:57:52

Ha ha ha ha ha.

Not at all, Maryz.

Maryz Sat 06-Jul-13 18:00:23

This is fun, isn't it?

How to wind up Raah grin

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 18:04:50

maryz grin

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 18:09:32

I'm not starting the thread tomorrow.
grintennistennis

Oh- championship point!

Maryz Sat 06-Jul-13 18:13:14

Oh, the Bryans won.

I've just come in, the tv is on xbox and I thought they had lost. The last score I got was at one set down when the radio commentators seemed to think they had blown it.

They are Golden Grand Slam (or whatever) Champions, aren't they?

I see Pat Cash is playing Andrew Castle in the Invitation Doubles - no prizes for guessing who we are all up for in that one grin

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 18:13:54

You could be mistaken for thinking they are doing it on purpose.

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 18:15:39

They are now. If they win the US they'll get the calendar gran slam - winning all four slams in a calendar year.

GameSetAndMatch Sat 06-Jul-13 18:44:25

Hi all. no time to look through all posts today so-

wel done marion that was awesome, Im glad she won, ive come to go off lipsticki a bit, i dont know, she seems a bit TOO sickly sweet for me, and Marion was just charming. so well deserved.

well done Bryans too.

RowanMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 06-Jul-13 19:09:50

Hello hello

So sorry to take so long about this, but we've fiddled with your apostrophe now

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 19:13:46

Hurrah! raahh Your apostrophe is no more!
Had to go get dd from her drama thing so missed the last of that match.
Bugger.

siezethenight Sat 06-Jul-13 19:15:47

My father was French raahh My family are French. I am half French I couldn't give a rats arse about how I look grin

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 19:27:42

Yay!!! rowan. thanks

Better late than never. grin

sieze I was making stereotypical sweeping statements based on not much at all grin

GameSetAndMatch Sat 06-Jul-13 19:33:03

what apostrophe? I didnt see one or did i log in after it was corrected? where was it?

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 19:34:08

Nooooo- they are moving the men's oldies match. sad

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 19:36:24

Game it has now been corrected. But from 7am til about half an hour ago, it was very wrong, and I could feel the pedants laughing at me.

They had corrected it a bit earlier- but incorrectlygrin

FarleyD Sat 06-Jul-13 20:05:21

Just watched Stila's link to El Pot's post match interview - he's so sad sad

Raahh Sat 06-Jul-13 20:30:41

sad I know. So, so close.

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 22:13:32

Not just the French bothered about how Bartoli looks.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23214821

specialsubject Sat 06-Jul-13 22:23:45

look at that picture full size and the correct shape on the BBC site. She's sweaty and dishevelled - and looks very pretty with that huge grin on her face.

and both she and Lisicki (who also has a a lovely smile) can play tennis without those bloody silly shrieks at every point. I would not have watched the match if Sharapova et al had been playing.

NoComet Sat 06-Jul-13 22:35:33

Oh smelly tennis socks, I knew you lot would tell me the mens doubles result, I've taped it.

Spoil sports!

Maryz Sat 06-Jul-13 22:37:27

Erm Star the match ended 6 hours ago are you like my dad?

We joke that he's still waiting to watch last year's rugby on tape, so we can't ever talk about sport.

NoComet Sat 06-Jul-13 22:48:59

Yes, and I'm saving it for DD free enjoyment next week as an antidote to post Wimboldon blues. Men's doubles is fun, knowing the result doesn't matter.

The Ladies final was such a let down I went out to enjoy the sun.

Have cheered up now, Bartoli was so sweet when they interviewed her. I just wish it had been a tighter match.

Poor Lisicki, let all the press stuff about het being the favourite get to her, I think.

I am glad Bartoli won, I really like her - I missed the game as I was out for a picnic until 10.30p.m, but my Mum kept me posted.

claig Sat 06-Jul-13 23:19:14

Just read the article about John Inverdale's comments about Bartoli.
What a charming bloke!

I don't know why they have him presenting tennis. I find some of his comments cringe-making and embarrassing. I think he fancies himself as well.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23214821

claig Sat 06-Jul-13 23:20:46

Thanks to ClayDavis for posting the article in the first place.

claig Sat 06-Jul-13 23:24:17

Not only did he insult Bartoli, but he also insulted Sharapova, because her long legs have nothing to do with her success, and Sharapova is also one hell of a fighter who never gives up.

ClayDavis Sat 06-Jul-13 23:39:59

'She is an incredible role model for people who aren't born with all the attributes of natural athletes.'

That's him trying to apologise. Someone needs to give him a spade. That's one hell of a hole he's trying to dig there.

claig Sat 06-Jul-13 23:56:08

They are discussing it now on the Sky News Press Preview.

Apparently there was outrage on twitter following Inverdale's statements.

Stila Sun 07-Jul-13 01:29:22

This screen shot of horrible comments has been doing the rounds on twitter . Name & shame !

NoComet Sun 07-Jul-13 01:56:32

angry
Yes DD2 (12) wanted Lisicki to win partly because she looks a bit like her fair hair, long fringe often plaited back and held back with a flower.

However, she also admires her for being able to serve at 125-130 mph (the web is not clear on whether she or Serena hold the record). Anyhow, it's faster than many men's doubles players.

Bartoli has a pretty mean service too.

I wonder if those twitter posters would like to act as target practice.

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 07:30:38

Good morning Cult tennis
'Tis a sad day. Last day.
Sigh.........

I'm not on twitter nor Facebook because I don't wish to be found <<furtively pulls on new wig and glasses>> and because, sometimes on Mn it gets rowdy and I don't like it, I tend to leave threads or just leave Mn for a bit when it gets like that. But its monitored and those that be have control to stop something. There's no control on the both above mentioned and I watch my dc's like hawks when they are on either. I know they have their good bits and plus sides but they also have what Stila linked up. It makes me incredibly sad for the world.
What happened to, treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself?
That's all.

Men's final! I have cleaning to do before it starts so am getting a shift on here.
Are we having a new thread raahh?

mumblechum1 Sun 07-Jul-13 07:37:02

Oooh, just noticed this thread. I was there yesterday and the atmosphere wasn't flat at all, it's the first time I have ever watched a game of tennis, live or on TV and I loved it, it was q exciting, and we all got a bit emotional in my crowd when Lisiki started crying when she was thanking everyone.

It was such a fab day, helped along by the corporate marquee bit! Nothing nicer than sunshine, champagne and strawberries.

mumblechum1 Sun 07-Jul-13 07:37:38

What times the mens final? I have been bitten by the bug now!

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 07:51:07

Morning Mumble Just noticed this thread? Where have you beed woman? We've been here throughout. It was raahh that kicked it all off. Thanks to raahh and tennis, I have gone feral this last 2 weeks grin
envy for yesterday - how very dare you actually be there grin
I think men's kick off will be 2pm but do not hold me to it! Wait for Raahh or clay to pop on with the order of play and watch out for a new thread for this match - we usually have one. Raahh will link us to it.

Chubfuddler Sun 07-Jul-13 07:54:15

Very excited about today but also sad. It'll be last night of the proms before we know it and then summer GONE again.

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 08:01:42

I know Caly I am going about the loading of washing machine humming, 'And now, the end is near, its time to face the final curtain...'
I can't get American Open unless I get Sky Sorts and I can not justify the cost thanks to becoming a student sad I will have to treat myself to that perhaps next year when I am actually working properly.

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 08:02:19

chub not clay I need more coffee to sharpen up the concentration before the match starts shock

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 08:03:10

Morning mumble! Very envy.

When I said the atmosphere looked flat - I was talking about the start of the men's final- but it seemed to perk up a bit!

Glad you've got the bug- I hate the first week after the championships, I feel very deflated. I also have no excuses not to interact with my familysmile.

After my trauma yesterday- think I will wait until I am fully awake to start a new thread- dd2 has had me up all night, dh got up at 5 to go to work < yawn>. Going to need strong coffee. Or I will be asleep by 2!

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 08:05:58

Morning raahh is dd okay? Is she feeling ill again?
I kind of liked your thread header when it was a blip actually, it was because you were all excited!

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 08:09:20

12.50 mumble according to the radio - don't listen to my above post or you'll miss the start shock

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 08:15:08

sieze dd2 not ill - just being a 2 year old horror. She's very snouty/ screamy at the moment. I worry about the neighbours, and my already frayed nerves are shredded. My neighbour are a retired couple who are utterly lovely, and very diplomaticsmile , but I wouldn't want to live next door to me at the moment!

Just saw the twitter feed stila linked to - hideous. But she is the first to put herself down, Bartoli- and ultimately she has the last laugh, Wimbledon champion, whilst those low life's have nothing better to do than criticise someone they don't know.

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 08:17:42

Shouty! Really shouldn't post on my phone!

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 08:23:42

I wouldn't be too worried about the neighbours raahh elderly usually means hearing impaired if my Nan is anything to go by! And frankly, if people can not understand a toddler in the house next door then, blah to them. Our neighbours had their Grandchildren over yesterday and they screeched all day long. It was as if they were in our house it got so loud. They also arrive promptly at 7.30 every single weekday morning and scream like hoodlums out on the drive, which is not at front of houses here, nope, they are next to each other at side of houses - its sooo loud. My lot are off college for the summer so we have easy mornings here - until 7.30 grin It bothers me none. They are kids, you live next to kids? You expect this.

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 08:24:47

And I can't take credit for the original thread- think that was Magimedi- but I'll hold my hands up to littering the place with most of the others.

I want to enjoy to day,as I'm not bothered re the outcome- but I'm not sure how long I'll be able to stand the totally biased commentary ( from hypocrites who are usually djokovics biggest fans) I may end up breaking the tv! grin

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 08:28:36

They are lovely neighbours, and prior to us living here there was a family with 4 kids. I'm sure they are used to noisesmile- but I get very anxious - about everything- dh doesn't, he thinks I'm daft for worrying so much. Worrying is what I dosmile . They spend a lot of time in their villa in lanzarote- can't say I blame them[ grin]

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 08:28:37

Hey, just thought raahh if dd has been up all that time then maybe she'll be flat by 1pm and you'll get to watch match in complete silence!?

Make neighbours a cake, I would love a cake off my neighbours! I get eggs, from their chickens, they are loud fuckers things also! They chased my cat down our back garden steps the other week as they escaped the garden. It was the most hilarious thing - one blck cat legging it, four chickens clucking after him.

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 08:31:28

Right- I'm off to pretend to be useful for a bit grin

siezethenight Sun 07-Jul-13 08:32:17

I also am going impartial for this match. I am not keen on Djok but I want a good match and the best player to win today.
I think I feel sorry for Murray having all the country banging on about today, huge expectation upon him. I would have woken up feeling a huge weight on me this morning if I were him.

Dropping dd younger down the cadet hut now where she has a day of volunteering ahead of her for Duke of Ed silver (I think that's what its for, she has told me but she told me during the Potato match - fat chance of me listening). She's got to be in uniform doing Heaven knows what on this boiling hot day - do not envy her - but have got her a lift home if she is done before the match is done grin

Raahh Sun 07-Jul-13 08:32:41

grin @ the chickens!

magimedi Sun 07-Jul-13 08:45:46

I'm not that keen on either of them - I would have liked Del Potro to be in the final.

Am not looking forward to all the hype re Murray but in a way I hope he wins as then everyone can shut the fuck up about him next year!!

magimedi Sun 07-Jul-13 08:46:39

And 8Raaah* - should you not start a new thread?

Or shall I do one - with apostrophes?? grin

Stila Sun 07-Jul-13 08:48:04

Morning.

Mumble see , we told you that you would get sucked in. Glad you enjoyed.

Do we know who Djokovic is playing?
grin

New Fred needed!

I think that it make scrape 30C at Wimbledon today.

magimedi Sun 07-Jul-13 08:49:43
