I am so excited!

DH takes over all catering for this fortnight (he does it at other times too) so I can plump my cushions, grab the handchange & get watching.

I'd like to be saying who I was putting my money on to win - but I really can't decide between Rafa, Federer Djokovitch & Murray.

I'd just say that it will be one of them and, sadly, I'd put Andy in last place.

Two weeks of tennis coming up!!

Bring it on. wine (pimms) & grin

nancy75 Sun 23-Jun-13 20:31:08

I think Rafa might win this year. Not based on any reason other than I think it!

MrsMcEnroe Sun 23-Jun-13 20:33:24

Ooh I can't wait, I am a huge tennis fan too and we shall be existing on salads for the next two weeks so I don't have to tear myself away from the box for too long...

And <whispers> I am, for once, backing Andy to win!!!!!

ChuckitintheBucket Sun 23-Jun-13 20:37:19

Ooh me too, beyond excited. I cease to be a wife and mum these 2 weeks but DH and the DC's are well used to it. Am hoping to get up there on the 2nd monday but will be day after going to see Robbie Williams at Wembley so late night and extremely early start, sure I can manage it though. Obviously hoping for Murray to win but who knows.

Going to stock up on strawberries and Pimms, sit back and enjoy. smile

MissTriangle Sun 23-Jun-13 21:03:56

Moneys on Rafa! It's all about that lovely left arm I'm afraid!!! Can't wait.

TeamSouthfields Sun 23-Jun-13 21:05:49

I live 5 minutes away from the stadium... I dislike the chaos !!! shockhmm

GameSetAndMatch Sun 23-Jun-13 21:08:08

GameSetAndMatch Sun 23-Jun-13 21:09:26

NicknameIncomplete Sun 23-Jun-13 22:20:56

Team i will join Game in your house for the fortnight grin

I am gutted that i am working next week & will miss 2 days of it sad

ShadeofViolet Sun 23-Jun-13 23:00:48

Signing in. Cant wait and I think it will be Murray's year this year <optimistic!>

Signing in- no prizes for guessing who I support. grin

when I worked, pre-dd2, I used to book the fortnight off. Now, I just pray nothing important is happening at school pick-up timegrin

Haven't seen the weather forecast, so I'm hoping it will get off to a good start (tis damp in the North West).

And every year, we ask for a Wimbledon emoticon, and never get one <sulks>

wine<- fake Pimms

GameSetAndMatch Mon 24-Jun-13 11:05:06

Is it me or is there not the usual excited build up on tv? sports news are headlining with the arrestor something of someone in cricket or something, ok, fair enough, but then as always its the football and the tennis seems to be at the bottom of the list.

Ok. I'm not normally a Wimbledon person and dont really know anything about it at all but as I'm signed off sick and going to go bonkers I need something to focus on. I've chosen Wimbledon grin

So, who am I supporting (I guess I need a girl and a boy) and what do I need to know?

Ahhh, you need weather forecasts smile I will swap you forecasts for tennis knowledge.

I've seen a few ads, and Sue Barker was pushing the Murray documentary for all she was worth during Queen's grin, but I've not seen as much as normal- and where are the Robinson's barley water commercials?grin

Oh yes- we definitely need weather info. grin

Nadal's first match is on Court 1, sans roof, so it had better not rain!

MrsDoomsPatterson Mon 24-Jun-13 11:13:21

Forecast for Wednesday Please OYBK! v excited!

Well in general this week it is looking pretty good. Temps quite cool (maxing out at around 20 maybe 22 by mid week). There is an outside chance of showers tomorrow and Wednesday. I guess wind is important? Not too much to worry about there.
Need to keep an eye out for Friday when we might get showers or perhaps even some rain.

Is Nadal today? Is he worth rooting for or should I stick with Murray?

Should be ok today. Wednesday afternoon I'm just a little concerned about. Can they play in light showers?

Witt Mon 24-Jun-13 11:17:01

Signing in, can't wait. Only 14 minutes to go! I'm hoping either Murray or Nadal win this year and obviously that Watson and Robson do well too.

MrsDoomsPatterson Mon 24-Jun-13 11:18:05

Thank you OYBK...Shall take an umbrella just in case.

FreedomOfTheTess Mon 24-Jun-13 11:18:06

DD2 wasn't due until just after Wimbledon, but she ended up arriving 4.5 weeks early, which is great timing for mummy as (a) I'm obviously on maternity leave and (b) the fact she has arrived before means I don't need to worry about going into labour and missing any tennis. wink

Come on Andy.

I don't know who I want to win the women's yet, but it isn't Serena Williams, because of recent press stories about her.

MrsDoomsPatterson Mon 24-Jun-13 11:19:05

No play in light showers I'm afraid. One hint of rain and covers on.

Oh, that is silly, they could wear studs or something. Hmpff.

Have started a thread asking for Wimbledon emoticons:

blibblibs Mon 24-Jun-13 11:21:32

Tennis experts and weather experts - I'm in heaven!!

10 minutes to go, teacher training day today so the kids have been warned that at 11.30 I expect silence from them grin Having to put up with Get well soon just now!

This is the best two weeks of the year for me!

Rafa to win - obviously.

MrsDoomsPatterson Mon 24-Jun-13 11:24:12

Studs & cagoules, perhaps a jaunty rain bonnet? Oh yes, liking that.

GameSetAndMatch Mon 24-Jun-13 11:25:03

7 minutes to go! we're all ready. and that magic moment when the umpire says, 'ready, play' and the 1st official ball is served.

seriously, Im like a child at xmas!!!!

and cant wait for the Wimbledon theme music too.

Vamos Rafa!

I don't really bother too much with the women- but would love to see Robson/Watson come through. Ear plugs are needed for a few of the womens matches thoughgrin

Order of play

blibblibs Mon 24-Jun-13 11:29:45

Here we go!

Now, I've just got to convince dd2 that she wants to watch...

(was much easier when she was young and compliant grin)

GameSetAndMatch Mon 24-Jun-13 11:32:56

Oh ANdy you're still making me cry with that speech!

Oh that's a handy link, but how do I know which match will be shown. Am on bbc2 at the moment.

GameSetAndMatch Mon 24-Jun-13 11:33:43

The womens are good too, and the doubles.

I feel sorry for Hewitt getting Stan in the first round- but could be a classic.

Love McEnroe.

Is there more than one tv channel to watch it on? Am on bbc 2

It's only on bbc2 at the moment-will be on 1 later. Should be several matches on the red button. (although I can't get mine to work properlyangry)

C'mon Andy!!!! grin

Thanks raah smile I hope your red button behaves soon.

I do have a soft spot for Andy.

HappyAsEyeAm Mon 24-Jun-13 11:48:05

I am on strike for the fortnight. Everything can wait.

AmberSocks Mon 24-Jun-13 11:50:26

no no no no no.

Hate tennis.

Hate the way people dont stop talking about it when its on.

Hate the britishness of it all.

JUst no.I will be hibernating til it finishes.

I hope Roger does well- he's a fantastic sportsmen, but to listen to some of the commentators you'd think he was a decrepit old manangry . He's still far better than most of the top 100 put together.

Stila Mon 24-Jun-13 12:07:57

I'm in !
My French / Queens viewing was so bloody sporadic . . . . . things will be coming to a near standstill this next 2 weeks . grin

Waimea Mon 24-Jun-13 12:12:10

They looks brilliant waimea for those that can see them smile

Hmm. Grammar fail.

I can only see boxes. Are they meant to be boxes?grin

Waimea Mon 24-Jun-13 12:20:08

Tennis ball
Can't find a Pimms one!

blibblibs Mon 24-Jun-13 12:26:11

I'm only seeing boxes too!

it's like those magic eye things all over again.

Stila Mon 24-Jun-13 12:33:03

I can see them (on laptop) - although on twitter (on laptop) I see boxes .

MrsMcEnroe Mon 24-Jun-13 12:43:32

RaahhfaNadalismyToyboy Oi! hands off my husband! wink

Mac is great. And usually brutally honest. I wish he commentated for the Beeb more often.

MrsMcEnroe Mon 24-Jun-13 12:52:34

Yeah me too grin. would have loved to have heard his commentary when Andy was winning the US Open last year!

ChuckitintheBucket Mon 24-Jun-13 12:55:04

Oh dear, first british casualty.

PetiteRaleuse Mon 24-Jun-13 12:56:58

As usual am hoping for Murray to win, but if he can't then Tsonga, Monfils (is he actually playing this year?) or another French player.

Love having Beeb coverage but I don't get the red button unfortunately over here, so will have to swap to French TV if interesting French players are playing at teh same time as Fed/Nadal.

Almost cried when they showed those shots of Nadal being injured and losing last year. He looked devastated. So many players would have declared forfeit.

Stila Mon 24-Jun-13 13:01:11

Errani /Puig have sent the dog running out to see who's making all the noise .

Should I be plumping for federer this match?

blibblibs Mon 24-Jun-13 13:13:19

I would say so!

Alway better if the tops seeds get into the second week.

this could be a short match.grin

HesterShaw Mon 24-Jun-13 13:26:29

Bally's out already. Imagine being out of Wimbledon by 1.30pm on the first day sad

MrsMcEnroe Mon 24-Jun-13 13:27:15

Doesn't Fed make the court look small??

JaquelineHyde Mon 24-Jun-13 13:42:50

Woohoo found you.

Signing in for the next two weeks.

Supporting Murray all the way here, followed by Tsonga and then Nadal.

Shame I have to do the bloody school run every afternoon...Watch this space for the inevitable speeding ticket grin

Jacqueline- the school run is a pain. For once, I am grateful that the school is on strike on Thursday!

ClayDavis Mon 24-Jun-13 14:03:03

Signing in for this afternoon. Managed to swap shifts and get it off work. Wonder if that will work for the next two weeks...

Ooooohhh one reason I am glad I am off of work.

I lurve Federer but want to get his nice whitey whites all dirty!! wink

I like Murray more after watching TV programme about him last night but no one will top Rog for me.

Ewww, Azarenka had a nasty fall. At least the screaming was for a genuine reason that time.

Well done Roger!

I do love Wimbledon whites- nice and cleangrin.

Stila Mon 24-Jun-13 14:21:20

grin at wear that shirt again as he's hardly broken sweat

amigababy Mon 24-Jun-13 14:21:34

signing in, the first year where I'm off work for 2 days a week, hope the matches fall well for me. Great today, Roger, Rafa and Andy in a row.
Novak was great on BBC breakfast this morning, playing ( gently) against one of the presenters. Really funny.

Poor Hanescu.
VAMOS Rafa now!

amigababy Mon 24-Jun-13 14:22:33

well, when court 1 comes free anyway

ChuckitintheBucket Mon 24-Jun-13 14:23:35

Quality stuff from Roger as usual. Never get tired of watching him win.

amigababy Mon 24-Jun-13 14:23:54

the official Wimbledon app is very good, you can tick favorite players to get score updates for them.

Oh no, not Shrieky.

I love the Wimbledon app- means I can be anti social keep up with the scores when stuck in the school playground.

Now, Mladenovic looked good at RG. I'd love to see her upset Shrieky.

Crazy4U Mon 24-Jun-13 14:36:53

Can anyone join in. I love Wimbledon! Would love to go one year (i keep dropping hints to dh). Go Andy.

Hello! The more the merriergrin

(and I've just seen that MNHQ are considering a Wimby emoticon, because we begged looked sad when they said no).

C'mon Azarenka - finish it off.

So we can see Nadal

Ahhh, I like Cilic- but I've always loved Baghdatis.

ClayDavis Mon 24-Jun-13 15:06:22

Tsonga and Nadal on at the same time. Who do I watch? Think I'll go with Nadal.

blibblibs Mon 24-Jun-13 15:09:31

Rafa wins whenever I have a conflict of matches!

Here we go.....

PetiteRaleuse Mon 24-Jun-13 15:11:51

I'm watching Tsonga. Will someone nudge me if Murray comes on as French TV won't show it if French players are on court. Even the ones that have zero chance.

Pity Tsonga is playing Goffin- I liked what I saw of him at the French.
Allez Tsonga

(but I'm going to watch Nadal).

petite- at least you have a few French players who could have a chance. After Murray, the closest Brit is ranked 221!! grin

PetiteRaleuse Mon 24-Jun-13 15:22:42

Very true grin

MrsVamosRAFA Mon 24-Jun-13 15:26:29

MrsVamosRAFA Mon 24-Jun-13 15:35:41

Hello Gorgeous !

These slow starts do my heart no good, you know. wink

Right- I need this over by 4.15, as I have to go get the other dcs. So, get a wriggle on Rafa!

no, it's flashbacks to last year. His opening match was tortuous. But he's fitter this year I hope

IreneR Mon 24-Jun-13 15:38:04

I'm in, kids. I was able to l i s t e n to RF's quick match this AM, thanks to Wimbledon radio.

Hate to say this, owing to all you manic Rafa fans, but I'd rather Nadal doesn't win EVERYTHING this year. Call me contrary.

(As a Fed fan, I'd really prefer Rafa gets miraculously knocked out before the QFs, for obvious reasons. The way my year is going, I won't be able to stand another beatdown from Nadal....)

Whatever happens, it's going to be a fun 2 weeks.

MrsVamosRAFA Mon 24-Jun-13 15:40:11

That's wishful thinking, Raahh. smile

Should be nearly over, provided Rafa doesn't drop a set, I would imagine.

Roger played well earlier, seeing as his opponent didn't stand a chance. hmm Don't think he will get his 8th Wimby title though.

Didn't think much of the Andy documentary last night, I didn't really learn anything that I didn't already know. I still just can't warm to him though. I expect if he does well, I'll have a tear in my eye, like at the Plympics last year, but SO want Rafa to win.

MrsVamosRAFA Mon 24-Jun-13 15:42:39

If Rafa's as fit as he was for Roland Garros, and feeling as well as he was, I reckon we already know who the winner is. I don't think he would have come to Wimby feeling as awful as he clearly did last year, and not fully fit.

Time will tell. But I reckon Rafa has another gear this year.

I didn't watch the Murray doc- the PR machine are really in full flow this year, it's annoying. And Sue Barker plugged it constantly during Queen's, so I was determined to miss it. grin

IreneR Mon 24-Jun-13 16:00:39

See, I would have liked to be in with the cool girls in being bonkers for Rafa. I just can't this time around.

I'm intrigued by the lukewarm response Andy Murray gets from so many. I once spoke to a fellow American who baldly said she would always support any American against anyone else, which I found sort of repulsive, if you actually like tennis. While it would be very good for tennis if an American man could compete at the top again -- so that more people would care about tennis over here -- Jack Sock against anyone else? Really?

Right- giving the crowd something to cheer is all very well, but

Mind you, Darcis doesn't look like he'd have the energy to go the distance.

ClayDavis Mon 24-Jun-13 16:05:43

I'm not sure he's got enough to last the set. He looks knackered. Rafa might want to find that other gear soon.

Buggerit-school run calls....

Oh dear, post surgery nap happened. It's a bit of a bugger, no idea what went on blush

Will have to try harder smile

Murray next?

MrsVamosRAFA Mon 24-Jun-13 16:29:30

Argh ! Why oh why oh why !

Rafa always seems to do this lately. I'm not going to panic, he did this at RG and got better and better.

I can't work out if it's because he has learned not to come out and go hell for leather, or if he does really struggle coming to new surfaces ?

It used to be that Rafa uses the 1st set to kind of suss his opponent out, then steps up a gear.

Getting slightly pissed off with the commentators all seemingly gunning for Rafa to lose, or be the 'big scalp' of the men. Don't like the crowd mentality of "we'll cheer on the underdog just cos we can" either.

I thought the whole idea of going to see tennis, or any sport, was because you like the sport and/or particular players, not so that you could boo one of the greatest there ever has been, then cheer for him or her later in the tournament.

People are too fickle for my liking. Which is why I plonk my ass on the sofa and screech for Rafa from the saftey of my living room !

blibblibs Mon 24-Jun-13 16:32:28

OYBBK - Roger had an easy win

Rafa is down a set sad

Murray about to start

Will have to do some channel hopping!

Crazy4U Mon 24-Jun-13 16:33:30

GO ANDY (just starting on bbc1)

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 16:36:11

Marking my place, it took me ages to find this thread!
See rafa is going to test our nerves again hmm he's not looking too bad though just tentative I think. Fingers crossed......
And c'mon andy! I'm not a huge fan but I would like to see him do well this time.

Rafa is just warming up, I'm sure.

C'mon Andy!!! grin

IreneR Mon 24-Jun-13 16:36:39

MrsVamos -- I applaud your constancy!

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 16:37:06

Mrsvamos- I'm on my sofa screeching too-will be watching rafa to the end.

erm....where's the Rafa match gone???

ClayDavis Mon 24-Jun-13 16:38:25

I'm not sure they are cheering on the underdog just because they can. He's playing fantastic tennis, better tennis than Nadal is at the moment. It's also a bit different to other sports where you go to support a team or player. The crowd will have got their court 1 tickets well before they knew who was playing on it today so they may not be fans of Nadal.

Ashoething Mon 24-Jun-13 16:41:21

VAMOS RAFA!! Stop doing this to us! Although I said it during the French that I didn't think he has a hope of winning Wimbledon this year. Think Novak will win sadly.

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 16:41:54

Glad to see yummy yummy tsonga is looking good to go through too smile
Rafa is on the red button

I come back from school to find bloody Heir Hunters on BBC2, and Nadal losing, and shafted to the red button. Not funny.

Ashoething Mon 24-Jun-13 16:58:56

FFS iplayer is going awry and fucking up my watching of this match. VAMOS RAFA!!!-start believing!

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 16:59:43

Vamos rafa! A break here would be good

Now hold your serve!

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 17:01:20

Oh no sad this is rubbish! My red button wont show the Rafa match.

(is it too early for Josh Groban?)grin

sarahtigh Mon 24-Jun-13 17:02:53

try freeview 301

blibblibs Mon 24-Jun-13 17:02:59

Try putting your TV on channel 301.

If not bbc website has it

OYBBK- I have had all sorts of trouble with my red button. It's working at the moment, or I would be very upset!

blibblibs Mon 24-Jun-13 17:03:30
Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 17:04:14

Badkitten you can get rafa on iplayer if you have a computer/tablet

Have rafa on tv Murray on the iPad grin

Yay Blibb, I can watch both at the same time now smile

PlentyOfFreeTime Mon 24-Jun-13 17:05:10

This Nadal / Darcis match is really good.

Am getting v annoyed with Nadal's little rituals.

Ashoething Mon 24-Jun-13 17:05:51

I don't think I can watch this any more-my nerves cant take it! rafa needs a good talking too from uncle tony!!

NotAQueef Mon 24-Jun-13 17:09:57

Is that hmm face for me mama?

Mumofthreeteens Mon 24-Jun-13 17:10:48

What has happened to the Nadal match? I flipped off the red button to see Murray and now cannot get back to it. Also why are there no other options to watch other matches? Crap BBC coverage.

NotAQueef Mon 24-Jun-13 17:11:15

raahh mine too - always have problem with red button sport, tis one of the reasons why I am going back to Sky despite the annoying weather related picture loss you get with them

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 17:13:18

Queef- not at was for rafa!

At least win a set Rafa- VAMOS

gailforce1 Mon 24-Jun-13 17:15:01

What is happening in the Murray match? My red button has stuck on the Nadal match!

Startail Mon 24-Jun-13 17:15:53

Try channel 301

The BBC are total bastards at channel hopping and not following a match.

As for the score sad

I'm not a happy bunny

NotAQueef Mon 24-Jun-13 17:16:06

NotAQueef Mon 24-Jun-13 17:16:55

Mumofthreeteens Mon 24-Jun-13 17:16:59

I'm on Sky and it's off. Aaaggghhh! As much as I like Murray I wanted to flick between the two. Bloody BBC.angry

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 17:18:09

Not at all queef grin
C'mon rafa, My nerves can't take this this early in the tournament!

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 17:19:15

Apparently lots of people ate having red button issues bbc say they are trying to reboot it

Startail Mon 24-Jun-13 17:20:14

Come on RAFA I need to do tea

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 17:20:16

Murray match is 5-4 to Murray on serve now

gailforce1 Mon 24-Jun-13 17:20:20

Posted twice, thanks NotAQueef. I am a Nadal fan and worried that this performance means that his knee is giving him problems.

NotAQueef Mon 24-Jun-13 17:20:46

The beeb have been boasting on all their wimbledon ads about how more matches than ever are available live! I don't want to have to watch on my ipad.

ClayDavis Mon 24-Jun-13 17:21:52

5:4 in the Murray match now.

If everyone goes online to get the Rafa match and crash the site I won't be happy. grin

Startail Mon 24-Jun-13 17:22:00

Honestly it's to early in the championship to be shouting at the TV

GameSetAndMatch Mon 24-Jun-13 17:22:24

even with the mute button you can still hear Shrieky! ffs, she gets louder by the second. Is that what Grigor likes then grin, she must be a fireball in bed!

wheres the red button gone? I am on sky.

and they usually have a multiscreen with 4 or 5 matches but there was only the choice of 1 hmm.

Foginis a character isnt he? was enjoying that match with Meltzer till they decided to go to a British girl washout er- riveting match.

cant watch Andy, he makes me nervous. he plays better when I don't watch!

I'm on virgin and found the other matches on 991 and on.

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 17:23:33

Totally agree startail!

Mumofthreeteens Mon 24-Jun-13 17:23:36

What is happening in Rafa's tie break?

NotAQueef Mon 24-Jun-13 17:24:11

shock hope t is not a repeat of last year for Nadal with an early exit

Startail Mon 24-Jun-13 17:24:14

301 on free view is working fine, wish the same could be said for the players.

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 17:24:19

hmm Rafa

NotAQueef Mon 24-Jun-13 17:24:42

Nadal 2 sets down

OYBBK- thanks -haven't had Virgin long,it annoys me.

Startail Mon 24-Jun-13 17:25:41

Right if I hit record to feed DDs they'll break 301 or move the match, stupid beeb

NotAQueef Mon 24-Jun-13 17:26:33

Now have got to battle the flioping red button to try and get Murray back.

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 17:26:44

Nadal is now on bbc1

Startail Mon 24-Jun-13 17:27:05

What did I say

gailforce1 Mon 24-Jun-13 17:27:52

It will take a lot of the interest out of the tournament if Rafa goes out at this stage, just as it did last year.

Mumofthreeteens Mon 24-Jun-13 17:28:03

Now there is no Murray match & Sue Barker cheerfully saying it's on the red button... It Is Not Working Miss Barker!!!!!!

nemno Mon 24-Jun-13 17:28:04

NotAQueef Mon 24-Jun-13 17:28:47

blibblibs Mon 24-Jun-13 17:29:21

This is not good sad

Come on Rafa

Mumofthreeteens Mon 24-Jun-13 17:29:28

It is now smile

thanks MNHQ

although my Wimbledon is pretty much ruined if Nadal loses

Witt Mon 24-Jun-13 17:30:52

How good is Nadal at coming back from 2-0 down? sad

Mumofthreeteens Mon 24-Jun-13 17:30:58

tennis smile BBC angry

He's done it before- but pre-knee, so all we can hope is Darcis remembers he's supposed to be not so good, or it rains.

Ashoething Mon 24-Jun-13 17:33:10

Well Wimbledon is over for me if rafa goes out now. Will support murray but it wont be the samesad

Will have to switch my allegiance to Ferrer. But it won't be the samesad

Mumofthreeteens Mon 24-Jun-13 17:34:15

Oh Rafa! sad

Sirzy Mon 24-Jun-13 17:34:46

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 17:54:14

JaquelineHyde Mon 24-Jun-13 18:02:31

Amazing for Dacis though and credit to him if he closes this game out.

Murray has the second set!

NotAQueef Mon 24-Jun-13 18:04:25

Think I might have caught ds on a good day. He is 2.5 but is chanting "come on Andy, do it" at the tv and doing a passable impression of knowing what's going on with gasps and oohs <proud>

Jacaqueen Mon 24-Jun-13 18:04:34

sad for Rafa

I do hope that is not the last time he plays at Wimbledon. sad

Oh sad

Fucking hell Rapha, am sobbing! Bloody pregnancy hormones.

JaquelineHyde Mon 24-Jun-13 18:07:08

In a way I'm glad that it happened like this, I would rather a lower level player got a shot at getting through than Nadal crumbling due to injury against a big name player.

amigababy Mon 24-Jun-13 18:07:22

I really really don't swear. But wtf!!!!

Startail Mon 24-Jun-13 18:09:06

PetiteRaleuse Mon 24-Jun-13 18:30:31

sad for Rafa but best not to play on grass in future if it hurts his knees I guess.

Anyway, onwards and upwards, I can now support Tsonga without feeling conflicted, grinand I hope Ferrer does well.

As for who will win the tournament- I think it's Djoko's year, but I hope Federer does well.

GameSetAndMatch Mon 24-Jun-13 18:46:27

tennis you're welcome, chuck .

like both Hewitt AND Stan so don't mind who wins this.

questions for the observant-

Is Roger the only male player who DOESNT take his towel to the ballkids and uses it every point? (he never sweats anyway).

Do any of the women do this?

Is there a way we can get rid of Andrew castle? tennis grin.

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 18:47:05

Hewitt or stan Do you think?
Will now be cheering for tsonga, ferrer or anyone that isn't federer to win grin

Getting rid of Andrew Castle is definitely a priority Game grin
envy Stinky- have a great time!

<waves to startail> smile

Will just do a double check for tomorrow's weather.....

Stila Mon 24-Jun-13 18:56:33

oooooh Stinky enjoy envy

Dry all day, a little warmer than today and when the sun comes out, with the wind lighter it should feel pretty nice. Stinkyfeet, which side of the court are you on?

Wednesday might have the odd shower sadly. Need my brolly emoticon, but I think it's probably pushing my luck rather!

GameSetAndMatch Mon 24-Jun-13 19:00:11

tennis stinky well jell! have a good time and think of us! tennis.

can't get there this year due to injury so you'll go in my place tennis.

good luck Laura tennis,

At least Rafa was gracious to his opponent and not made an excuse....yet ! tennis.

no seriously, it's the knees, a different sufrace (as he says) and not enough grass court practice too, but again, kudos to Darcis tennis.

love the Aussie fans tennis theyre a hoot tennis

Oh TDF as well? I might have to develop a love of cycling too.

Dh is going to think I've lost the plot!

Mama1980 Mon 24-Jun-13 19:05:20

envy Stinky have a great time. Where bouts will you be sitting?

Stinkyfeet Mon 24-Jun-13 19:23:28

Can't remember which seats - MIL has the tickets! Think we're at the back though.

Back is good, you can survey the scene and soak up the atmosphere smile

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 19:48:47

oh dear- Stan chucked his racket.

Hewitt is playing very well- if a bit bad tempered at times. But that's Hewitt- he is a fighter. The Aussie fans are very loud- uncouth bunchgrin

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 19:50:33

But C'mon Stan!!

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 19:50:54

have a tennis

nancy75 Mon 24-Jun-13 19:51:28

Can't believe Rafa is out, I have tickets for men's semis but I only wanted to see Rafa, my mum can go now while I sulk!

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 19:55:53

nancy- sad

I honestly haven't felt this miserable over a tennis match since Edberg lost to Becker in the '89 final. But at least it was a final. How sad is that?

Oh raah <strokes hair>

Can I add John "what has he done to his face" inverdale to the list of twatty tennis commentators?

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 20:09:01

thanks glaikit <pathetic emoticon> I'm41, ffs
ooh yes- Inverdale is also rather twatty. tennis

GameSetAndMatch Mon 24-Jun-13 20:09:26

Oh I think John Inverdales not too bad.
ffs. just watching the highlights programme and anyone else would be arrested for so much public 'touching' wouldnt they? doesnt he ever wash? he's always pulling. scratching, fumbling around, as a couple of other posters have mentioned before. and all those people watching, there and on tv? tennis

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 20:15:56

C'mon Hewitt!
C'mon Stan!!

or else it will be too dark....

Chubfuddler Mon 24-Jun-13 20:16:49

To be fair to nadal he was very gracious about defeat, refused to make excuses.

Did Hewitt win?

Chubfuddler Mon 24-Jun-13 20:18:31

Ooh just found it on red button. I thought I was on the red button already <Luddite>

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 20:24:33

Nadal is always gracious in defeat- it's part of his charm. He knew before the tournament that his chances were slim. I think there will be serious doubt over the US open, being as the hard courts are even worse for his knee.

On the plus side, he's already qualified for the end of year masters, based on the other results he has. (No one else has yet reached the cut off). I hope he is fit to play.

Hewitt is a terrier- he's not won yet, but he's not far off. tennisgrin

But i like Stan too!!

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 20:26:27

Chub- I have discovered the 990+ channels on Virgin, and am now a very happy bunny (the proper red button was pissing me off).

990+ hmm aren't they the, um, gentle men's channels? Gives " new balls please" a whole new meaning!!

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 20:31:56

nooooo- they aren't, honestgrin

Yeah yeah!!!

Chubfuddler Mon 24-Jun-13 20:32:48

The red button is an actual channel - can't remember what number.

I love Hewitt. Saw him at queens in 2000 or 2001.

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 20:33:50

C'mon Hewitt- do it for the oldies!!

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 20:36:33

I think on normal tv it's 301 or something - but I watch through mytivo box- So, it's 991 onwards.

Still hate Virgin thoughgrin

C'mon Lleyton- it's getting late-on...
<I'll get my coat>

Chubfuddler Mon 24-Jun-13 20:36:45

Cone on Leyton

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 20:37:11

Yay Hewitt!

sad for Stan, though.

Chubfuddler Mon 24-Jun-13 20:37:19

He's actually younger than me

ChuckitintheBucket Mon 24-Jun-13 20:38:11

Well done Hewitt. tennis

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 20:39:42

They're all younger than me-but the commentators consider anyone older than 25 ancientgrin

Chubfuddler Mon 24-Jun-13 20:39:43

Love him. I would actually love him to win this. He is phenomenal.

Chubfuddler Mon 24-Jun-13 20:40:27

I know, they're all younger than me too, but he's considered old.

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 20:41:06

Well, he now has a pretty cool draw. Go Hewitt!

Leyton is six months older than me!!

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 20:44:07

Well, that cheered me up ...a little bit.

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 20:45:07

Chubfuddler Mon 24-Jun-13 20:46:01

Has tsonga played today do not fancy him at all oh no.

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 20:49:11

Tsonga beat Goffin in straight sets.

Chubfuddler Mon 24-Jun-13 21:01:16

Just going to watch the Murray documentary.......

Chubfuddler Mon 24-Jun-13 21:06:59

Ooh good idea. I watched some of it last night but was so tired I turned it off.

MrsVamosRAFA Mon 24-Jun-13 21:16:17

Oh wow ! We have tennis !

Thanks very much, MNHQ. smile

Gutted for Rafa, of course. Have to say, Steve played really well, and was so lovely afterwards, saying that he felt he played well, but knew that if Rafa was fit he wouldn't have beat him...a very nice guy, I thought.

Must admit I'm very concerned for Rafa, cos I think that's the US Open out, and possibly the rest of the year, depending on what's going on. He quite clearly from his press conference didn't want to talk about the knee, love that he was his usual gracious self and won't 'blame' anything other than his opponent played better tennis which is why he lost.

I have that niggly feeling that maybe it's the beginning of the end, maybe we will start hearing talk of retirement....if his knee/s is/are that bad, I don't see how he can continue playing at top level, unless he does what he has done this year and plays to win RG ?

Sad to think that maybe his body is starting to say 'enough', and may hasten his end. sad

Brilliant match from Hewitt, he played some great tennis ! It would be nice to see him do well.

I had a feeling that there would be an upset today, and after the 2nd set with Rafa I knew it would be him going. Just didn't look like the same guy who won RG...

Wonder if there will be an upset tomorrow ? Novak isn't fully fit, I wonder if perhaps this year we will have a winner from out of the top 5 ?

Roll on tomorrow.

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 21:19:48

^^ what she said

Minimammoth Mon 24-Jun-13 21:21:07

Am joining cos I love johnmcEnroe Wimbo. Murreeyyy. But just love a good interesting game, sad Raf's gone though.

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 21:21:44

ha! that looks like a yellow snow man

MrsVamos Mon 24-Jun-13 21:25:55

Have also changed nn to just plain ol' MrsV.

I'm sad.

It's horrible isn't it ? Watching tennis isn't quite the same.

Imagine how strange it will be watching with no Roger, no Rafa...awwww....<cries>

We have been very spoilt, and need a couple of new young guns to fire up !

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 21:31:48

Yep- though I want Ferrer to do well, and he's no spring chickengrin

When's Dimitrov playing?

I feel bereft sad
and I know there are more important things happening in the world
I really hope it's not the end for Rafa.

Chubfuddler Mon 24-Jun-13 21:46:12

Federer is still in isnt he?

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 21:48:35

Yep, Federer trounced Hanescu is about an hourgrin-- slight exaggeration, but not much--

MrsVamos Mon 24-Jun-13 21:49:46

I'd like to see Ferrer do well too, if I was him, I'd be a bit miffed that no-one rates me as a potential finalist !

Dimitrov must be tomorrow sometime, haven't checked the schedule yet, sorry...

Yep, Chub Fed's still there, but I was just pondering the future....

DevlinMaccabee Mon 24-Jun-13 21:50:39

Omg just watched Azarenka fall in her match and my windows shattered!

Was very sad about Rafa, but still want Murray or Tsonga to win.

Raahh Mon 24-Jun-13 21:50:43

I think MrsV means when Fed hangs up his racket for good, Chub

I need to sleep. I am emotionally drained <drama lama>

MrsVamos Mon 24-Jun-13 21:56:57

I did indeed mean that Raahh. wink

We need some exciting matches tomorrow !

MrsV I was thinking of you when I heard the news about Rafa today sad

magimedi Mon 24-Jun-13 22:17:29

What an amazing first day!

I've just managed to get upstairs to get on line - been glued for the last 10 hours or so.

Had a big lump in my throat when Rafa lost & I do wonder if that is the last match I'll se him play. How much longer can he put that strain on his knees?

Thrilled to see Hewitt win.

Federer just put on an exhibition of the most stylish tennis I think I've ever seen.

Roll on tomorrow! tennis

amigababy Mon 24-Jun-13 22:24:54

in the absence of Rafa <sniff> I'd like to see
then Novak
then Andy.

but I'm also feeling sad it could be the beginning of the end of an era. It's not just the quality of the play, it's the characters too and what they represent for tennis.

LadyClariceCannockMonty Mon 24-Jun-13 22:27:50

Signing in, but haven't managed to catch any apart from some highlights of the Nadal shockeroonie. I also think his body might be starting to pack up. sad

What a day!

(Hello MrsVamos!)

rusticlanguage Mon 24-Jun-13 22:34:08

I'd love to see Wilf Tsonga do well.

Was on Centre today, Roger was sublime.
Murray was OK.
As for Nadal.....

Just wanted to air my SW19 name
As you were
<snaffles overpriced strawberries before leaving the thread>

Morning all smile

Forecast today is for a lovely day smile very little chance of any showers. Could feel quite warm on the sunny sides of the court, don't forget sun cream!

Tomorrow, there is still a risk of showers in the afternoon/evening but the risk is lower than it showed yesterday.

Nice on Thursday too smile

Friday, some uncertainty, but there could be a bit of a problem with showers.

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 09:09:52

NewGirl- very envy -glad you enjoyed yourself.

Ferrer is the one I'm looking forward to. The Djoko match will give a good indication of the form he is in.

Heather Watson and Laura Robson both up- hope they do better than Elena.

Interesting listening to radio/tv re-Nadal. You can tell the people who only take an interest during Wimbledon fortnight, and have no idea what has gone on the rest of the year. It was a bad loss- but would have been a much worse result for Nadal had it happened at RG, I think.

Still thrilled about the Hewitt match (though I do like Stan) - a really good match to end Monday on.

C'mon Tuesday- Vamos Ferrer!!

I do love these ballsgrin

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 09:10:22

And thanks OYBBK for the forecastgrin

magimedi Tue 25-Jun-13 09:55:19

Raahh - is Wednesday next week scheduled to be womens' quarter finals day?

Have to go off somewhere or the day one day next week & as am not so interested in the womens' tennis thought this would be a good idea.

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 10:24:23

I think so, weather permitting. Then semis in theory on Thursday. It was when I went, but that was a looooooong time ago.

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 10:25:02

Actually, the quarters could be Tuesday...

trying to work it out<addled old brain>

noddyholder Tue 25-Jun-13 10:32:08

Weather lovely today smiletennis Anyone else love Ferrer or is it just me? I would love him to win something

noddyholder Tue 25-Jun-13 10:32:34

Sorry should have read thread before posting!

ClayDavis Tue 25-Jun-13 10:32:48

I would say Tuesday off the top of my head. Think men's quarters is on Wednesday.

Robson has a tough draw so I think Watson has the better chance of getting through but will be cheering them both on.

BaconAndAvocado Tue 25-Jun-13 10:36:17

Hello Fellow Wimblers!

Wow! Yesterday was a superb start to the proceedings, though I was really disappointed the French lass didn't beat the Sqwarker.

Nadal obviously wasn't his usual self but in his post-match interview he took nothing away from Darcis' outstanding performance. More please!

PS what's the story with Sharapova and Seren Williams??

noddyholder Tue 25-Jun-13 10:39:04

Sharapova called Serena a marriage wrecker! And also Serena made some remarks about a rape case saying the girl shouldn't have been out and drinking etc and sharapova was very critical of that. That is what I have gathered from twitter anyway

Stila Tue 25-Jun-13 10:41:35

When I went to mens quarters they were the 2nd Wednesday - so yes if all goes to plan women's would be Tuesday .

I've not used a ball yet so ........... tennis tennis tennis

BaconAndAvocado Tue 25-Jun-13 10:42:53

Oo-er! Do the ladies not get on, off court?

Serena is now a Jehovah's Witness methinks? Always found the Williams sisters a bit arrogant and ungracious in defeat, total opposite to Nadal yesterday!

noddyholder Tue 25-Jun-13 11:10:50

I think serena's new partner has a wife and 2 children so it seems fidelity within jehovah's witnesses is quite fluid

BaconAndAvocado Tue 25-Jun-13 11:12:22

Indeed grin

ChuckitintheBucket Tue 25-Jun-13 11:17:28

Womens quarters on Tuesday, mens quarters on Wednesday..next week that is.

101handbags Tue 25-Jun-13 11:17:53

I was on no. 1 court yesterday and the atmosphere and the noise was just incredible. I've been going to Wimbledon many years and always hoped that one day I would see a big upset and yesterday it happened. Sorry all you Rafa fans, but was shouting like a crazy woman for Mr Darcis (Murray or Djok for me - or failing that, Tsonga).

noddyholder Tue 25-Jun-13 11:20:10

I think Darcis played the match of his life. WHo faces him nest? Often people who cause a big upset never do much more although he did have a good game

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 11:32:58

noddy- that's very true. After Rosol beat Nadal last year, he was comprehensively beaten in his next round. And lost in the first round yesterday. I have to say, I don't think Darcis will get much further. Although he plays Kubot in the next round-think he's Polish, and very close to Darcis in the rankings, so you never know, Steve could get to the 3rd round.

magimedi Tue 25-Jun-13 11:57:48

flowers chuckit .

101 That must have been amazing - envy

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 12:14:10

Watson lost her first setsad

C'mon Heather.

Witt Tue 25-Jun-13 12:34:36

C'mon Heather!

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 12:41:12

Doing much better in this set, Heather.

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 12:46:37

Spoke too soon.

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 12:57:34

oh dearsad

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 12:58:57

hmm - why is it ok to use Watson's illness as a reason for her loss, but not Nadal's injury?

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 12:59:38

The American played very well, though. And isn't a screamer/grunter. Which is nice. grin

Sirzy Tue 25-Jun-13 13:00:01

Having had glandular fever I can fully understand how that would have a massive impact.

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 13:03:16

It would- and has already stopped the careers of other players, like Soderling. I was just a bit hmm at how it's ok to excuse one player, but not another. I like Watson, I prefer her to Robson. Is she is the doubles did they say?

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 13:03:43

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 13:10:51

ooh, Del Potro is on soon...

DaddyRacer Tue 25-Jun-13 13:16:08

Should it be important to introduce your children to some for of sport to spectate and enjoy? If so why?

MrsMcEnroe Tue 25-Jun-13 13:25:27

Sam Querrey always comes across as an affable chap, doesn't he? (I'm at work, watching Querrey v Tomic on iPad) tennis tennis tennis

MrsMcEnroe Tue 25-Jun-13 13:26:43

Raahh mm, Del Potro is a fantastic player I think... I think he will do well this year.

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 13:29:24

Del Po is very good- bit tall for me like nearly 2 feet too tall grin

IreneR Tue 25-Jun-13 13:30:36

DaddyRacer, I don't know that it's important to encourage children to watch sports for the heck of it per se -- but if they have a genuine interest, I don't see the harm in it. My disinterested-in-sport son wanted to start tennis because he liked to watch it on TV though, so that's been nice.

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 13:33:31

It's like the Olympic effect , Irene- how many kids were encouraged to go and do stuff, based on what they'd seen in London? (Ds is convinced he is the next Bradley Wigginsgrin).

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 14:42:06

Del Po made a bit of a meal of the second set, there.

Tomic is doing well- not having his (allegedly) grinviolent father around doesn't seem to be bothering him too much.

And Tommy Haas doing well for the oldies toogrin

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 15:02:42

Well done del potato.

Raahh Tue 25-Jun-13 15:06:54

Robson up next, and I'm stuck on various school run related stuff for the next hour. Grtr

amigababy Tue 25-Jun-13 16:03:16

dd doesn't take part in any spo
